The Alpha Dawg: Mark Richt leads Georgia onto the field. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
ATHENS — The best 1-4 team in the land was so excited to be 1-4 no more that it did a victory dance in the locker room. Chief among the celebrants was the head Bulldog.
“Coach [Mark] Richt was the main one,” said Demarcus Dobbs, the defensive end. “He loves to get crazy after games.”
The past four Saturdays had yielded only a crazy sorrow. Indeed, as tailback Caleb King noted, the Bulldogs reacted with such fervor to Saturday’s thrashing of woebegone Tennessee team because their dancing had been so long deferred.
“It’s a silly dance,” King said. “But we hadn’t been able to do it for a while.”
Dobbs again: “It’s a lot different when you win. When you lose, everybody’s hanging his head and people are asking what went wrong. Today everybody’s vibrant.”
Not since Sept. 4 had the Georgia Bulldogs won a game. Not since Nov. 21 had they taken a lead against an SEC opponent. And the worst part of being 1-4 (and 0-3 against conference brethren) was that these Bulldogs knew, just knew, they were way better than that.
Here’s the redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Murray, who was as good Saturday as most redshirt seniors ever get: “We feel like we can definitely run the table these last six games.”
Got that? From 1-4 to 2-4 … clear to 8-4? (Which would mean beating Florida, Auburn and Georgia Tech.) As presumptuous as it might sound, there’s nonetheless something tangible backstopping that belief. That something is talent.
It took a lot of (mis)doing for a team this gifted to get to 1-4, and it took some effort for Richt to keep it from going totally south after the egregious losses in Starkville and Boulder. To his credit, the coach of 10 years’ standing changed some things.
The Bulldogs practiced in full pads Monday. (Richt admitted Saturday his light-contact approach to summer camp “backfired.”) The team dressed at the Butts-Mehre complex, doing the pregame Dawg Walk in full gear. Prompted by a caller to his radio show, Richt even led his Bulldogs onto the field.
And the result? Said Richt, speaking of his men: “They played beautifully.”
He also recalled what he had told his team after the full-contact Monday session: “If you guys will play like you just did, we’re going to be all right.”
Whatever has ailed Georgia — and when you’re 1-4, you’ve ailed — can be fixed. We saw Saturday the difference between a team with a bad record and good players and one with a bad record and bad players. This game was over after a quarter. Tennessee kept handing the Bulldogs the ball, and the Bulldogs kept taking it and scoring. And the best player on the field was the player Georgia hadn’t had for four games.
“We’re not going to give up,” said A.J. Green, the great receiver. “We’re all we’ve got.”
At peak capacity, Georgia has a lot. That was the message Richt sought to send with his Monday-in-pads decree, a message seconded on Friday by the former UGA linebacker Boss Bailey, who served as honorary captain for this game. Said Richt: “He felt like he needed to tell them that they weren’t playing ball the way ball should be played here at Georgia.”
On Saturday they did. They beat Tennessee by 27 points and spent the fourth quarter coasting. It would have been unseemly to embarrass Derek Dooley, the Vols’ coach and the son of Georgia’s greatest coach. (For the record, Vince Dooley watched the game from his home on Milledge Circle. His wife, Barbara, was in attendance wearing red slacks and an orange sweater, a look even the stylish Mrs. D. couldn’t quite pull off.)
By then, Richt’s team had long since proved its point: Georgia may have a bad record, but it isn’t a bad team. And now six games remain, time enough to do some damage.
Said Richt: “I never lost hope. I never lost faith. I never thought we had a significant amount of problems.”
Except for the losing. The losing was an issue. On this Saturday, as opposed to the past four, Georgia did not lose. It won and did its silly dance. It will dance some more before this season is done.

Where are all the idiots who are usually on here incessantly criticizing the coaching staff now? Probably complaining that we didn’t score 50, or that we didn’t get a shutout…. Congratulations to the coaches and players. I hope we ‘run the table’ the rest of the season just to make the bandwagon contingent look like the losers they are…

The point of talking about ‘running the table’ is that you have to have that attitude to win at all… What else should the players say? “We need to be realistic… There are probably a few more games on the schedule that we will lose.” No. It’s like kindergarten teachers telling their entire class that any of them can be president. That’s not true, but having the attitude that you could be president will probably do a lot for you in your life….

Been tryin’ to tell the Tide fans. You have the best team in the country. But, because of a scheduling quirk, you will lose 2 games. And you will taste the unfairness of scheduling quirks, like some teams already have.
If Boise played the Tide’s schedule, they would forfeit the rest of the season after the 8th game. You can’t play 6 teams coming off bye weeks in this years SEC and not get punished. Hate it for the Tide, because they are the best team in the country.

Not to piss on the parade, but why didn’t Richt start coaching this team in the spring? Just think how different things would have been if our defensive and offensive lineman had been going at it since spring ball ( and I mean full contact hitting). No darn wonder our “soft” offensive line has underperformed and our defense got ran all over by Lattimore. Richt needs to walk thru the front door on the first day of spring ball every year and announce that by gosh were going to be one tough friggin football team. Then let the hitting begin and every single position is up for grabs. Let Grantham be fiery and tough and don’t take that away from him. If a player is arrested they sit 3 games and a second arrest leads to being kicked off the team for good. Any questions?

Especially considering when so many people have been talking about firing him. Tenn. does seem to be bad, but they beat them worse than FL. did, & about as bad as Oregon did. So, doesn’t that count for something? Running the table may not seem likely, but UGA had a tough early season schedule, & it seems to be softening a bit. The only games that UGA should be not favored in should be FL & AU. FL has looked vulnerable, & has played a weak schedule thus far, & UGA has played good against AU recently. Not saying it will happen, but just that you never know.

UGA does not have smart, heady Def. backs and safeties. Why? Lousy recruiting for several years. 2009’s # 3 and # 9 are gone and we get two more just as lousy. We steal helmets too, now.
O line? Was obviously over rated. Why? Lousyy coaches and even worse recruiting trying to sign kids from all over the northern hemsiphere, instead of getting the good uns from right here in Georgia. See UT, Auburn, Florida and Alabama and SC with all of OUR O linemen.
Richt must go. Why? His record has for 4 or 5 years been only so so and lately we stink. Why?
Lousy Recruiting.

If the Dawgs want to be contender’s next season, they better recruit – 1) A couple of good corners. Boykin, and Smith will be ok next year, but not alot behind them.
2) A great RB
3) A great WR
Other than that, things should be fine.
Are we Dawg fans feeling better about losing to SC and Ark, w/o our best player, after what both those teams put ‘Bama through?

Nice analysis Mark,
Only one correction……
As good as Vince was in his days, even great, the real inspiration and motivator of the Dawgs was the legendary and unstoppable Erk Russell. Coach Dooley was the administrator. It was EK who was the passion and energy source of those teams, and Coach Richt would do well to seek inspiration from the old game films from the Dooley era that show Erk’s fabled dome trailing blood from his head butting players helmets to motivate his defense in critical games.

A satisfying victory for the Dawgs. However, let’s not look too far ahead just yet. UT is a terrible team with a first-year coach who hasn’t proven he is qualified to coach Div I yet.
We are 2-4, so this win in no way validates the coaching competency, philosophy or strategy. Whatever the outcome of the season, any honest fan must agree some reassessment of the program is still in order. The SEC East is very weak this year and anything other than domination is an indictment of every program.
Enjoy your victory, young men, but come back Monday ready to work again.

Better wait and see how we fare against Auburn anf UF before we bring out the Richt pom poms. This one win didn’t erase all of the serious issues with this program. There are still big problems like player arrest and an overall undisciplined and soft team. If some of you fans are happy going 8-5 and probably even sub .500 this year then so be it. But I want to have a chance to compete for a National title since it has been 30 years. I was 10 and now I’m 40 and hopefully we can get another one before I take a dirt nap.

Memo to Coach Richt: Great win today, congratulations. The Dawgs were running on all cylinders. Let’s enjoy this for a day and then get back to work. After seeing today’s performance, it’s obvious the players can get motivated and perform well when they have to. Please remember though that the season is long, and now that you have proven some things to yourself, the team, and the Bulldog Nation, this level of performance and effort will be expected all the time. No one expects you to win every game, but you remeber that you should be expected to be competitive on a weekly and yearly basis with the top teams in the SEC and the country. Good start on righting the ship, please don’t rest on this one game against Tennessee though.

I found it curious that Richt made the statement this week that “Im coaching my tail off”. If he had been coaching his tail off since spring ball we would be in the hunt for an SEC title. It’s like the last couple years he just wanted to delegate and push the cruise control button. I want to see him roll up his sleeves and coach his a$$ off all year from now on if he’s going to stay. UGA the best 1-4 team in the land? When I moved to ATL I had to listen to how they crushed ULL and owned USC and how they had the best offensive line in the country. I heard the hommies on this board complaining how they were not getting their due. They bragged on how they were going to put it to Florida. When I checked the record of UGA/FL I found out UGA has won 3 times in the last 20 years. It sounded like they should have been ranked #1 based upon the posts here. Then we had to listen to how UGA owned Arkansas. Then how they owned Mississippi State. I wish UGA the best but they are about 50% as good as most posters on this site think. I thinks that the Dawgs can possibly run the table if they play with heart, and limit the mistakes and penalties. UF is clearly not as dominant as in previous years, and Auburn is a good team but looks fragile at times. If we can get by these 2 teams, then that should allow us to win out. Murray is a good QB who is only getting better with every game. I am really impressed with that kid. Since the Dawgs’ backs are against the wall, then hopefully we will see more of today’s fire down the stretch. And congrats to SC for handling Bama today. Although the Dawgs could have used a SC defeat in the East, I am happy to see David beat Goliath. GO DAWGS!!!

The Dawgs have a great chance of winning out if they play as they did today. TN is not very good, but I saw a different UGA out there today. They were fired up and ready to play. Where has that intensity been all season? Auburn and Florida are going to be the toughest games on the schedule, and both teams look beatable at this point. Auburn has been squeaking by lately and are likely to lose the next 2 games. Florida has not looked like the powerhouse of old this season, and will likely lose tonight. As a Dawg fan, I hope that the worst is behind us and we can end the season with a decent record. GO DAWGS!

Pete Thamel of the New York Times quote:
“The biggest loser Saturday, other than Alabama, could be the SEC. The league has won the past four B.C.S. title games, but Commissioner Mike Slive will no doubt spend the rest of the fall nervous about whether the SEC can squeeze a team into the title game this year. His hair may even turn a more stunning shade of white.
The reality is that the SEC lacks the depth that was its hallmark the past five seasons. Georgia (2-4) has been awful, and the Bulldogs blew out Tennessee, 41-14, on Saturday to show that the Volunteers (2-3) have managed to be even worse.”
I’d say he must not have watched the Georgia Game today. Looks like all of the ills have been cured.

Tech SUCKS!! You nerds!!!!!!!!! Even if we still suck I bet we take you out again in November.
Richt has got a LONG way this season to prove to me he is “coaching his ass off” consistently . I have been freaking out furious because before this season started I knew we had good-great SEC winnable talent all over the field. I even saw UGA as hopefully competing with UF for the East since I knew the reptiles would be down. This 1-4 crap exposed Richt and now today all of a sudden he gets the team ready for a down and out SEC rival. Congrats Dawgs but this TN team was flat out awful. Still, for the last 3-4 years he was well under .400 for big rival SEC match ups and losing too much to Vandy/Kentucky now MState to add to the resume. The guy is insanely cocky compared to a Saban or Meyer all the while his results are slipping big time into mediocrity. His inconsistencies are his undoing. I will not forget the 2007 season when he had the BEST team in the country but let them lose to far inferior SEC teams early and not even have the F****** chance to play in the big games. If college ball was more like NFL season with a true larger playoff maybe Richt’s take valium on the sideline and slip it to the team early approach and save the boys muscles for late season games would work admirably. This is college ball and every game matters. I don’t see Richt taking us back to the SEC game ever with this lackadaisical style he thinks motivates the kids. Lets see how the team looks for the next few weeks because one thing I have learned about my Bulldogs coach other than his right down the middle consistent bizzare out of style haircut, is his study/prep and play for the other SEC teams varies with the weather and astrological signs. You just don’t know what Richt team is gonna show up. The half asleep don’t really care group just waiting for the NFL draft placements, lights out brilliant executers, the over penalized thugs that shoot themselves in the foot after every great play etc… Richt needs to start running on the field first from here on out and what ever he did this week in practice needs to become part of a “consistent process” aka Nickie Saban’s 20 year old brain washing bible. Good win Dawgs, but still in a wait and see approach on the coaches from here on out.

Oh, and since Florida is on a two game losing streak (one at the swamp – ouch) does that mean UM suddenly has forgotten how to coach? Or does it mean the real coaches that Florida had are now at Miss. St. and Louisville? Just curious. It’s so pitiful. Do you Uga fans have any idea how many KENARIOUS GATES Richt, Bobo and Searles have stood by and let leave the state. the three best offensive lineman on the field today at the Bama- Carolina game were James Carpenter, Chance Warmack, and Roke Watkins, who completely neutralized Marcell Dareus. Can you imagine what these three and Atlanta’s CAM NEWTON would have done to Colorado?! who incidentily was shut out 27-0 by Missouri. You’ll never win there until you stop betraying these in-state kids for one reason and one reason only. They would have liked nothing better than to help their home state school win big, but they and many like them will never get the chance because of Uga’s uppity backwoods attitude. Roll Tide. I like how Bobo opened up the offense and kept it open this time. Hopefully this is a sign he has learned to go with what works. Every time he opens up the offense, UGA moves the ball. Every time he bottles it up into “power running” that doesnt work for em, they get stuffed.

HA HA HA!!! You won and you guys are a mess. I was hoping UGA would lose just to watch the fans squirm but at this point its fun to watch UGA win against a lousy lousy team that got destroyed by Kiffin because it means one thing – Richt keeps his job even if you lose out. HA HA! And Miles will stay at LSU, a team with tremendous talent that wins despite coaching so that’ll keep them down until the talent is drained. So outside of UGA losing every game from here on out seeing the status quo remain is great because I think I’m guaranteed another year of typing HA! HA!
Oh yeah, HA! HA! At this point you can’t win, you win, you lose, you lose, you lose. Its just a lose lose.

As a Bama fan, I have to say I was happy to see UGA win today. I have said all along that the team is not bad, just had some tough breaks along the way, costly errors, and not enough heart to win. I saw some fire from the team today and I hope they do win out. I honestly think they could given their schedule. Auburn and Florida are vulnerable and I can see UGA beating them if they play as they did today. Good to see Richt lead the team out there today too. On the other hand, it was a tough day for my Tide. I had a bad feeling coming into this game and unfortunately I was right. Hopefully we will shake this off and dominate down the stretch. Good luck to the Dawgs and RTR!

You can sure tell the FL and GT fans possing to be UGA fans. They are all calling for CMR job. Pretty smart on their part because the recruits get in their mind that they need to look at other schools. UGA has alot of talent but was lacking the heart. They played with heart today and I think could have played with anyone. If UGA wins Tenn,FL,GT. then we have a winning season no matter what the record is. If we can get Crowell as RB we will be deadly next year. So Mark bradley , you better start bad mouthing UGA again or the recruits are going to start committing to UGA again. Go GT and UGA.

I thought The Dawgs would lose big today after what I saw UT and LSU last weekend.
What a week! Bama crushes Florida then gets stomped by SC. The Dawgs lose to Colorado then demolish UT. LSU pulls a win out of a hat against UT then wins a close one against Florida.
The SEC is up for grabs but The Dawgs have very little chance of having any piece of it.

Mark,
Despite the easy win, I saw some continued unsettling play. Blocks in the back on special teams (happens every week), Ealey fumbling inside the red zone, Chop Blocks (why?), etc. I did not note any personal fouls, but then again I probably missed the calls while away from the television. UT is a team in disarray, but Kentucky and Auburn are not. Florida looks vulnerable, and Tech’s defense is a joke. I see at least one more loss to Auburn and possibly another upset loss. I hope I am wrong, because 7-5 is much better than 6-6 and gives Richt another chance at an 8-win season. Ugly as it sounds, he’lll almost have to do that to get people like me off his back. 2011 is shaping up to be the most important year of his career at Georgia. But I’ll have to enjoy the blowout of Tennessee for a few days. Very sweet after 2009’s result!

I have said all along that UF was overrated and at least now the analysts and fans can see that. Of the 2 teams the Dawgs came close to beating, Arky almost beat Bama and SC did. Makes those losses not so bad. The Dawgs have relatively stayed on the field with all teams that they have faced thus far. AJ does make a difference out there and could have changed the dynamic in at least 2 of those losses. I am going to be realistic and say that we will probably experience at least 1 more loss this season (to AU). But given the season we have had thus far, I will gladly take the loss if we can just beat everybody else. GO DAWGS!

hey now, don’t pick on UGA fans for not having been on campus on a day other than a gameday Saturday. Its not their fault. The school does have standards. As to Alabama going undefeated, not sure they get past LSU who I’m not sure who gets past Auburn who I’m not sure gets past ARK who beat UGA despite getting lazy but won’t win out. Still, better than the SEC east.
I think UGA was dead last in the SEC last week but was tied for dead last, thanks to the lousy SEC east. Now, UGA is 10th out of 12 teams with KY and TN worse.

From an outsider’s perspective, it’s entirely plausible that UGA can win out. They have Vandy, Kentucky, Idaho St, UF, Auburn, and Ga Tech left to play. They should be favored in all but 2 of those games (AU and UF). Of those 2 games, Auburn and Florida are not that good. Florida exposed themselves as vulnerable in the last 2 games, and Auburn continues to squeak by with wins in games that they should easily win. Neither team in dominant. I don’t think it’s laughable to say that UGA can win out IF they continue to play as they did today. Tennessee is bad this year but, even so, UGA looked like they were finally playing to their potential. Aaron Murray is developing into a great QB who is only getting better. What can you say about AJ Green? That kid is fun to watch. Limit the penalties and fumbles, and I think they have a good shot of winning out. RTR!

Hmmm, for I’ve got to say, unless KY’s performance against Auburn was a sign the team is getting better than UGA should beat Vandy and KY. You know what that means, 4-4. I mean as soon as they hit 500 that’s an automatic BCS bowl bid.
I mean you still have to love this:
Stewart Mandel: If Georgia runs off Richt this year, it will be textbook Clemson/Ole Miss Syndrome. (Note the example cited in that link: Minnesota. How’s that working out?) Historically, Georgia is more prestigious than either of those teams — but not as much as Dawgs fans like to think. In all my travels, I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a fan base whose self-perception is so far from reality. Georgia fashions itself a national power in the vein of Ohio State, USC, et. al., based primarily off one glorious three-year run 30 years ago with Herschel Walker (and some kick-butt years in the 1940s). Prior to this season, the Dawgs under Richt had vastly outperformed their historical “equilibrium,” and in fact Richt’s career winning percentage (.752) is the highest in school history (not counting Bobby Winston’s lone 5-1 season in 1894).

Not to unlike how they should’ve beat a inferior team like South Carolina, Arkansas because UGA never will lose to a team from a hick state like Arkansas, Mississippi State because again this is UGA and we don’t lose to teams from Mississippi and Colorado because they’re Big 12 not SEC and they absolutely suck.

As a Dawg fan, I don’t profess every year as “our year”. I am realistic, yet hopeful that we will have a great season year after year. I don’t go around predicting anything in the preseason, I wait to see how our team plays and see how things develop by mid-season. I am not delusional and proclaim a SECCG or NC win for the Dawgs when we beat the likes of TN. I am tired of all Dawg fans being labeled as unrealistic and delusional. Every team has those fanatical fans, but not all fans are that way. I could care less what the rest of the country thinks of us right now, I just want my team to win. GO DAWGS!

Dear Patrick,
Explain that again? snickering.
Division standings are based on each team’s overall conference record. Often, two or more teams tie for the best record in their division and each team is recognized as a divisional co-champion. However, tiebreakers are used to determine who will represent the division in the championship game.
Three or more-team procedure
1. (Once the tie has been reduced to two teams, go to the two-team tie-breaker format.)
2. Combined head-to-head record among the tied teams.
3. Record of the tied teams within the division.
4. Head-to-head competition vs. the team within the division with the best overall (divisional and non-divisional) Conference record and proceeding through the division. Multiple ties within the division will be broken from first to last.
5. Overall record vs. non-division teams.
6. Combined record vs. all common non-divisional teams.
7. Record vs. common non-divisional team with the best overall Conference (divisional and non-divisional) record and proceeding through other common non-divisional teams based on their order of finish within their division.
8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

Of the two that did not, 1 was Auburn who went undefeated but was left out for a cheatin’ USC and bumbling OU that should never be allowed in any BCS games due to excessive egg laying, and the other, well, that was the only team of the 7 to lose was UGA, to West Virginia.
This week on 680 the fan the question was when did UGA’s football team go south? The red/orange(no pun intended) was setting and dusk was casting there long shadows on the land. The residents of Dogville were hurrying to their computers to extoll how their beloved dogs had beaten a hapless vols team, thus bringing their winning record to a resounding two. Of course beating those boys from for Lafayette Louisana was another great achievement these dogs. In order to reach the heights of beating the vols, the great coach of the dogs began practicing in pads on a Monday, and listened to a caller and led the players onto the field. No doubt the citizens of dogville were inspired. Even a new fuga was introduced. Magazine majors writing for the ajc cannot praise these dogs enough. Trying to pose what if situations whereby these dogs can win the sec east was amusing, but that has been dashed with the Gamecocks crowing loudly in Columbia. Now most are proposing that the dogs will, as some call it, run the table. There is joy in dogville once again. Who would have thought a two and four dogs would be considered so great. Only in dogville. Yeah buddy.

If the Dogs played inspired every game and if AJ doesn’t get greedy, they could be 6-0. It’s a coaching issue when they won’t hustle and give 100% for all 12 games…it’s not like they are playing 162 games in baseball or 82 in the NBA. AJ’s stupidity could have cost them a great shot at the SEC East title.

Here is what should happen. UGA worries about Vandy and ONLY Vandy. Prepare for that team and DON’T worry about anybody else. Start Monday off with the same fire in their bellies that was ignited in them last week and work their butts off during practice. The coaches need to address the problems that happen in blown coverage for deep completions and blocking for the offense……..again. Tenn is a VERY young team and played like one so enjoy the win but realize the caliber was not of the Tenn of old. The only time run the table should be thought of is if we go into the Tech game riding a 6 game winning streak.

Lewis….
In my opinion, that was an excellent post. Georgia has a lot of talent on its team…..and Murray is developing into a fine SEC QB. And Georgia is capable of running the table…no doubt. They are also capable of losing the rest of their SEC games…..so is Florida. South Carolina is obviously the dominate team the the SEC East this year…and the team to beat. I don’t see them losing again this year. So Georgia does not win the East…and neither does Florida.
….and the Florida fans were NOT booing the team…they were booing the extremely conservative play calling off Addazio, Florida’s terrible offensive coordinator. Bobo is 10 times better than Addazio at play calling. He knows 4 plays. Dive up the middle. Sweep. Slant pass. Swing pass. One of those 4 plays will be called every time beteen the 20s. The Florida fans…with Spurrier and Mullen…know that when you have speed and talent…you don’t run a 3-yards and a cloud of dust offense. Also….Meyer needs to take back the special teams job….there wasn’t a single fan in the stadium that did not know LSU was going to run a fake around on the last FG….everyone but the new special teams coach….and why didn’t Meyer tell him? For the first time, I was very disappointed in Meyer’s head coaching last night. I still can’t believe they let the kicker get to the outside on that play…plain stupidity be ALL the Florida coaches.

We looked better today.
I may be a coaching basher, but would anybody argue that this team has better talent than we reuteinly show on the field? And who’s job is it to make sure the players are ready to play each week?
Coaching is a job that requires 24/7 attention if you want to be the best. Theres no way I could do it, I’m too lazy. But I want my team, the Georgia Bulldogs, to have that kind of coach, the 24/7 guy who is obsessed with winning every contest. Saban had the game with SC on his mind all week, non stop. So did Spurrier. To be successful at coaching on this level, if you don’t have that level of commitment, your going to be about like UGA is now.
We used to, but we haven’t had that kind of coach these past few years. Can he change back?
We’ll see.

Yeah, we can run the table not because we probably will but because the games haven’t been played yet! All of this stupid speculation is nothing but Kool-Aid. Let’s play the games instead of projecting to run the table, win the SECE, then win against a suddenly “vulnerable” AL team in the SECCG, then make the stretch that the SECCG winner has a shot at the MNC!
Geez, we get enough criticism as being delusional without Bark Madley encouraging such behavior. Let’s focus on incremental improvements, realize that no one has won the division, and PLAY the games. Talking smack and making these projections is analogous to some of our more undisciplined players strutting on the side lines after a good play although we are getting our butts handed to us on the scoreboard.
Bloggers keep talking about CMR enforcing discipline on the team; don’t you think we as fans should exercise some discipline in our behavior as well? I’m tired of looking stupid on the field and I’m tired of some of my fellow Dawg fans acting stupid on these blogs. Enough said, GO DAWGS!

Before anyone goes crowning Spurrier, remember, he’s the meltdown King, if anyone knows how to lose at the end of a season, it’s Spurrier.
They’re not going to have 2 weeks to prepare for any of these teams:

Look for Spurrier to somehow find a way again to lose 3 more SEC games, he always does.

Georgia will run the table, Richt always finishes a season well.

Yes, Alabama will struggled, and lose 3-4 out of 5 of these games:
Ole Miss, Tenn, LSU, MSU & Auburn
All have 2 weeks to prepare, watch film, get health, recover from losses, all want to kick Alabama’s prideful butt. Saban’s cockiness makes him a set up for up and down seasons. He becomes the punching bag because his cocky “kick me” attitude.
He’s the most hated man in sports, according to Forbes. People literally HATE this man.
Players have a way of bringing cocky jersk down to size.
Bama will finish 9-4 or 8-5, just like LSU followed their National Championship season witha 9-4 finish, no one thought that could happen either.
By the way, McElroy has now had a loss since the 8th grade. We don’t have to hear that cocky stat anymore. Man, he lost that game single-handedly, held on to the ball too long. Took too many sacks, didn’t hand off to his RB’s, looked like Tebow out there trying to be Superman, when he’s not.

I have to admit, I pulled for the “Evil Genius” yesterday, even though I knew if it happened, a SEC team would no longer be at #1.
Seems I found out lately that a lot of Bama fans, at least the ones coming on the AJC to comment, not only love to brag on their team, as do we Dawg fans, but also love to kick other teams (and their fans) when they are down.
Then I remembered something from a long time age. In December, 1982, Alabama’s basketball team hosted Penn State in a game only a couple of weeks before #1 UGA’s 11-0 football team played #2 Penn State in the Sugar Bowl for the National Championship. Anyway, the Sports Illustrated reporter at the BB game wrote of the oddity of Bama fans chanting during the game, “Beat Georgia, Beat Georgia, etc.” He thought it was odd that a SEC, southern school would pull for a northern school over another SEC team.
I remember thinking about it as I drove through Alabama on the way to New Orleans for that game and decided then, as I do now, that Bama, and Bama fans are more like Notre Dame fans, pulling for themselves and nobody else.
So to those Bama fans, I sincerely wish you the best in this tough time and . . . no forget that. I hope it hurts like hell.

South Carolina 35 points. Hopefully that shuts up the “Kirby Smart is a defensive god” crowd for a week. Great game UGA, but two things. These kids (and keep in mind-that’s what they are) of Tennessee were coming off of an emotional letdown of huge proportions at LSU (who came off an emotional uptick and beat Fla in their swamp last night). The college coach today who can keep these kids at a consistently positive emotional level week after week certainly has my respect. For Mark Richt and assistants, hats off to you. But secondly, still concerned when I see opposing receivers wide open all too often. One time is too many if you want to run the numbers. Go Dawgs!

Bobo is such a joke. He acts like Kenarious Gates is a surprise. Each year Mike Bobo passes on probably 10 to 15 Kenarious Gates in this state for one reason and one reason only. , Gates was going to Kentucky until a scholarship was made available when Darick Rogers decommitted. The best offensive linemen on the field at the Bama-Carolina game were all from the State of Georgia: JAMES CARPENTER, CHANCE WARMACK, and ROKE WATKINS,( who neutralized Macel Dareus and pushed Uga all over the field a few weeks back). Richt the hypocrite, Bobo and Searles know the type of athlete available to recruit for the offensive line in this state each year, but they refuse to do it, thus denying kids like Kenarious Gates the opportunity to win for their home state. You didn’t even want Gates until Rogers changed his mind. This kind of crap needs to end, and the only way to do it is get rid of Bobo and Searles, thus hopefully ending the uppity backwoods attitude that continue to hamper UGA. You’re never going to win big, and as long as small town good ole Georgia boys like Bobo and Searles and their attitudes persist, you never will.

I don’t see how anyone can post here that the Dawgs can make it to the SECCG. If anything, Georgia needed SC to get beat by Bama as the Gamecocks must lose 4 SEC games for the Dawgs to win the East. Georgia has lost 3 SEC games and if both tie, SC has the tiebreaker. Thus Georgia must win the rest of their SEC games while SC must lose 3 of thier last 5.

Random thoughts: Tennessee was coming off a disheartening loss to LSU in the Clock Management Fiasco Bowl. The SEC is shaping up as a very tough conference as usual and the East is up for grabs. UF vs SC in the Swamp on Nov 13 (2 weeks after the Cocktail Party) is the critical game and should be a doozie. With AJ back, the Dawgs have the potential to win any or all of their remaining games. this has to be a joke right? how can you really tell me with a straight face that any of the games remaining are sure wins execpt idaho state. The ga vandy winner will be the 4th best team in a pathetic division and you are talking about running the table?????? Kentucky is a better football team than Georgia with a lot more weapons, Georgia has not even been in the same league as UF the last 15 years and will prob remain that way for 15 more years, and AU should beat the pups by 2 touchdowns. Georgia tech is equally as bad and that game should be a barn burner.

UGA will lose to Auburn and Florida almost definitely, Kentucky probably, and Georgia Tech possibly. The team you beat yesterday is horrible. You are looking at 5-7, and possibly 4-8 this year. But you will be much better next year, getting back to 9 or 10 wins.

Big freak’n deal Mark. SO- UGA beats a team who got beat 48-13 by Oregon – in Knoxville. Should have gotten beat by UAB (UT won in double overtime) – but escaped 32-29 (in Knoxville). In fact – in the UAB game – UAB had 544 yards of offense to UTs 287. UT is a team that is playing 16 freshman (there were 7 on the field at the same time yesterday). And remember, 24 of UGA points came off of turnovers where UGA didn’t have to go very far.
UT is Ranked 96th (yes, 96th) in offense and ranked 77th in Defense – and UGA thinks that requires a “celebration” dance in the locker room??? UGA didn’t PROVE ANYTHING by beating a lousy UT team. SO, UGA – save your dances till the end of the year.

It’s hard for me to pound my chest after the UT win. I agree, a win is a win. It was much needed. I like what one poster said. Just worry about one game at a time. We still have a lot of things we need to striaghten up to be a good team. Florida and Auburn will be tough to beat. If I’m not mistaking UF has the week off before our game? That will be tough.
Another side note. I love the fact that their are no more techies saying anything about Murray’s height or lack of ability. I said this before the season even started that he is the real deal. Techies need to be nervous because he will throw for at least 300 yeard against your defense. The question for UGA will be how many of those will be in the endzone. I hate when they drive then have to kick a field goal.
Alright, I contradicted myself. I thought ahead to the 11/27th game….

“Whatever has ailed Georgia — and when you’re 1-4, you’ve ailed — can be fixed.”
Oh, yeah Mark Bradley ?
Who is Georgia’s running back, then, for example ?
# 9 Scoring Offense in SEC
# 8 Total Offense in SEC
# 6 Pass Efficiency in SEC
# 9 Sacked in SEC
# 8 Third Down Conversion in SEC
# 9 Fourth Down Conversion in SEC
# 9 Red Zone Turnovers in SEC
# 8 Red Zone Touchdowns in SEC
# 9 Touchdowns Scored in SEC
Who is going to call the plays to get our Offense even reasonable ?
# 7 Auburn 6-0
# 8 Alabama 5-1
# 9 LSU 6-0
# 10 So Carolina 5-1 # 12 Coaches
# 12 Arkansas 5-1 # 13 Coaches
# 22 Florida 4-2
How is a 2-4 Starting QB, losing 15 seniors and 4-5 juniors after this 2010 season, going to get Georgia ranked when we have not been ranked in two (2) years in a row, and frankly beat no one 2010 at all with 4 losses, no one 2009 except # 13 Georgia tek with 5 losses, no one 2008 at all with 3 losses, no one except the 4-loss Florida team # 14 in 2007 and a loss to 6-6 South Carolina, no one in 2006 except # 9 Auburn with 5 losses.

Mark, I try to be optimistic, but we beat a very bad Tennessee team. Yes, they looked much better against Florida and LSU, but played the worst they have played all year Saturday. I do give Richt and the team credit for playing much better, and I’m not trying to take away from that but this was one game.
It doesn’t erase the memory of 4 straight losses. If we have all of a sudden made all these changes and are back on track, then my question is, “Why did it take 4 losses to figure it out?” The next few weeks will tell the tale of our season. If we continue to improve, and can actually beat Florida, then I will give Richt his props. I can’t get too excited after beating Tennessee.
In the end, Bobo still must go. If winning out saves Bobo’s job, that would not be a good thing for the future of the program.

UGA will be on a winning streak and looking for blood when we plau Florida. Will UGA win? Toss a damn coin if they bring their A game we have a good chance. If we play like the beginning of the season? It will be a long game in Jax. This should have been the year of the Dawg. UGA is loaded with seniors who are not performing and sad to say.

South Carolina gets:
Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, and Clemson
South Carolina ranks LAST in the SEC in pass defense. South Carolina gave up over 300 yards rushing against Auburn.
Kentucky, and Arkansas’ offenses are perfect matches for South Carolina’s defense, 2 losses there. I don’t think Spurrier’s done real well against Urban Meyer, you’d have to pick Meyer in that match-up. Even Clemson has some weapons. South Carolina should get 1 more win at Tennessee, though not as impressively as Georgia, of course.

As an actual Uga grad it is time for Mark Richt to go. If you can’t keep the players out of consistent legal trouble – with 10% of the team being in legal trouble this year enough is enough.
It actually does tarnish the University and the degrees alumni hold. I’m sick of it and ready for a change. I’ll never give another dime to the school until the administration shows they actually care about academic and athletic excellence in that order.

Brandon,
What a childish statement. Why would a poster be an ‘idiot’ for posting obvious coaching deficiencies?
Actually, the ‘idiotic’ statement is thinking that beating up a very young, mistake prone, overmatched Tennessee team makes everything OK.
The truth is Richt, the Dawg players, and whoever was impersonating as Bobo did what they have been expected to do all along – get this team prepared to play phyiscal, agressive football.
Unless you don’t pay attention at all, you would notice there are still some very correctible deficiencies this staff need to work on with this team. The OLine still has problems, the running backs are poor by UGA standards, the special teams are nothing to write home about, the defense still has issues playing assignment football, and mental lapses leading to penalties and fumbles.
The coaches did well at their jobs this week. THe players flew around and leveraged their natural talent, but with all due respect to the Vol Nation, that wasn’t the ‘98 NC team we played yesterday.

This staff and Ricth gets props for getting the Bullpups prepared this week, now lets see him keep the edge and have them firing out and being physical every week…
Then there will be other deficiencies he can focus on, like discipline…
Some people are ridiculous. The yell about not overreacting to one bad game, then at the same time one good game negates what has turned out to be years of neglect. What a frikkin hypocritical joke.
That said, if UGA goes to JAX at .500, Richt gets another year to turn the program around. If for some reason we slide into another embarassing meltdown or 2 before December, don’t be surprised if McGarity, who has no loyalty to Richt at all, doens’t turn up the heat on the Saint, who I actually love as a man and role model, just not so much a leader of a team….

Bama has fought a few wars the last couple of weeks. USC had two weeks to prepare. After the Fla game Bama had an emotional let down. It is almost impossible to keep that emotional high and maybe Bama looked past USC. I even told people that this was the week Bama would go down based on that. In the SEC Championship Game if both teams make it, God Help the Cocks – it will not be pretty. Bank on that!
I have read over and over that Ga is a medicore team and always has been, especially from you UF fans. UF is a medicore team and without Tebow this will be self evident. Welcome to a 3 or 4 loss season UF. I predicted that before the season and UF is making that a truth. Fact is you do not have a coach that has ever built a winning team, he has always been a walk on. We at UGA have a coach that with some common sense we will keep. You on the other hand have one that will bail and run if the season keeps going as it is, does retirement sound familar. Fla St and Miami will cut into your recruiting. Welcome to the days of yore UF,
Those of us that are long time SEC supporters realized long ago that no one, no one stays on top forever in the SEC. Impossible. I have lived long enough to remember the days of when Ole Miss, LSU, Ala, Auburn, UGA and yes even UF. They all take turns. I judge our success on our performance against Bama and Auburn it has always been a good bench mark. USC and UF seem to always refer to UGA on how well their season was, jealousy is a terrible thing. The fact is I expect to watch another 20 to 30 years of SEC football and rest easily at night knowing that even in that amount of time USC and UF will never even the score against my medicore Dawgs.

Bama do a DNA test on Sabin, The Bear walked on water, he may have risen.
Vandy, Bless you all, Bobby did you wrong
LSU, I saw the 12th player get on your bus, Shame on You.
USC enjoy the ride, it never lasts long enough in the SEC
Miss St, welcome back, you are starting to look like SEC again

Excellent point RAID — the kicking teams need practice. I couldn’t believe the lack of aggression on that PAT either. Also, we were lucky we didn’t get a turnover on the kick-off that went off our returners knee. He should never have tried to catch that ball — it was headed out of bounds. In a close game those kinds of mistakes can kill you.

The dogs had better be ready to do some hard hitting against Kentucky — they look tough. CMR will need to use his depth against them to try and wear down their starters.

Why are all the Trekkie douches posting?
Do you remember 30-24 or 73-66 or 8 of 9 or 60-39-5 or 50,000 seat “stadium” or free hotdogs and cokes to get people to attend even though you are in downtown Atlanta?

Even without caleb king, the dawgs will blow out the next two creampuffs, vandy and UK–these teams are terrible. After that huge UT win, the dawgs are fired up and will be practicing the next 2 weeks for florida, which is way down and beatable.

Given Spurrier’s annual metldown at SC, and Meyer’s extreme record of either going 13-1 or 5-3, you’d have to say Georgia wins the SEC East, then the SEC Championship game, and heads to a BCS Bowl to finish 10-4. Another 10 win season after starting out 1-4, pretty amazing. Richt averages 10 wins a season, and he wants to get to 100 wins in 2010. So heeds to win at least 7 more games this season.

I think Meyer goes winless in October in 2010 & 2011. If he loses to MSU, which I think he will, then Georgia will finsih Meyer off.
I think Coach Mullen was a critical part of Meyer’s success, and Mullen’s offensive play-callign skills are better than Addazio’s, Saturday will show that.
MSU upsets Florida, and so does Georgia.

Spurrier has proven he cannot keep a winning streak going at the end of a season at SC. He’s a starter, where Richt’s been a finisher. The team is just destined to lose. It doesn’t matter of Spurrier starts out 5-12 or 7-1, it’s just not in the cards for Spurrier to ever win the big one at SC.
Steve;’s like that sprinter who gets out to a big lead, and then runs out of gas by the 3rd turn around the track, and watches every team go by.
Richt’s a marathon runner, he might start slow, but he usually finishes near the top at the finish line.

The gators are done–their offense is one of the worst in the SEC and UGA is moving up! Look for a huge UGA upset over florida in jax followed by a blowout win over Tech! These dawgs are back–book it!

Jeff,
You are truly a gutless, nutless wonder. You posted an article on 9/30 about how the Dawgs were better than people might think, even proclaiming them to go 9-3 for the season. And not only would you not respond to the calls to answer for your ridiculous statement, you locked down the article from further comments after only 5 pages (plenty of comments, but that’s not the point). Yet, this article is on page 8 and counting. Dude, if you can’t take the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen! To proactively lock down an article because you are getting heat as a writer, that’s just friggin’ petty, lame, and as I said, GUTLESS. Grow up or go home!
