"Over? Nothing's over until we SAY it's over! Who's with me?" (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Having spent the week hammering Mark Richt and Georgia, doing everything from crunching numbers to imagining the worst that could happen, it seems only fair to offer a corresponding best-case-scenario. Here goes:
The Bulldogs could win the SEC East.
I know, I know. They haven’t yet won a conference game, and they surely won’t be favored to beat either Florida or Auburn. (And Kentucky looks like a toss-up.) But it’s conceivable Georgia could finish 5-3 in the SEC, and that might — might, I said — enable them to take the division. Here’s how it would work:
Step 1: Georgia wins out. (Duh.)
Step 2: South Carolina, which has already beaten Georgia and lost to Auburn, loses to Alabama on Saturday, to Arkansas on Nov. 6 and to Florida the week after.
Step 3: Florida, which has lost to Alabama, loses to LSU on Saturday and to Georgia on Oct. 30.
That would leave Georgia and Florida at 5-3 in league play, with Georgia holding the tiebreaker because of its head-to-head victory, and South Carolina at 4-4. (At this early date there seems no sense in discussing how a three-way tie might be broken. Nor does there seem a need to assume any of the above will lose to Vanderbilt.)
Among the things Georgia had going for it this season was this basic bit of logistics: It wasn’t scheduled to play Alabama, and both Florida and South Carolina were. That still holds. And Georgia does get the three Eastern lesser lights — Tennessee, Vandy and Kentucky — in a row. (So does South Carolina, but two of those games are on the road. The Bulldogs get both the Vols and Commodores in Athens.)
There’s a chance Georgia could go to Jacksonville at 3-3 in league play, and if you get to 3-3 there’s at least a mathematical possibility of finishing 5-3. And 5-3 might just win the division, provided South Carolina finishes 4-4. Which could yet happen.
Understand: I didn’t pick Georgia to win the East — I picked UGA third, behind Florida and being shaded for second by South Carolina — and I’m not picking it now. But if I’m going to imagine the horror that might be unleashed if the Bulldogs lose to Derek Dooley’s team, I might as well be even-handed. As lousy as this season has been, there’s still a chance something really good could come of it.
A chance, I said. A chance.
(Oh, and if Georgia loses Saturday, forget I mentioned this.)

Come on, Mark. Don’t you think you’re reaching a bit? Why not make a case for Vandy, UK or UT? They’ve got about the same chance as UGA does at this point. Crunch the numbers anyway you want. It ain’t gonna happen. If anyone wants to place a wager, I’ll be happy to take that action.

Easiest schedule we have had in years and look at the results! We do not play Bama or LSU plus had two FBS teams and the weakest Big XII team in Colorado. Result so far 1-4. Doubt we can win versus Georgia State much less Auburn or Florida! We will be favored against UT because they have nothing talent wise!!! We’ll be favored against Vandy and Kentucky because our talent is so far beyond anything they can even imagine. Both of those would be more huge upsets in reverse. We will be +10 point favorites in each even if we continue our losing ways. Simply put we need a need staff from top to bottom to reinvigorate the program, excite the fan base, and give us HOPE for the future. Richt is simply not the answer but the problem.

GT-Hammer, the odds makers aren’t interested in predicting how the game will go; they want to predict how people will bet. They want to choose a point spread that will get equal bets for both teams. They are, in effect, predicting what the betting public thinks the point spread is.

I was thinking along similar lines the other day…. not that Georgia has any shot to still win the east, but how do you get the players out of this funk. I agree with Dooley Sr. that a lot of this right now is probably mental. The coaches need to convince the team there is still a lot to play for this season. I think that would show the fans a lot and restore some confidence in our coaching staff if they can get this thing turned around this year.

Thanks for the optimism in your article. As bad as we are this year I keep hope we will rebound. UT is a lot better team than most will say and are very well coached. They play with a no quit attitude something UGA has yet to find. Im at my wits end with this program and need the Dawgs to show me they want to salvage this season. I was speaking with a coach from UVA last night and he was drilling me on what was going on with UGA.I told him I wish I could put my finger on it but I believed it to be alot of major issues that are going to take a long time to correct. Hope you are right-Thanks again.

And I thought I was the only person who was delusional enough to even think out this scenario, much less think it might happen. But it could.
I remember going through the same process in 2007 to decide how many things had to happen for the Dawgs to make the BCS championship game. It was about 15 steps..and they almost made it. If Tenn had lost either of their last three games, all of which UT was behind in the second half, it would have happened. I still cant believe they blocked that punt vs. Vandy.
But, that year we had a Stafford and Moreno..

Thank you, Mr. Bradley, for covering all sides of a tough situation.
That is all I think that your readers can reasonably expect.
Personally, I don’t agree that Richt is the problem, but that is my opinion.
In the Colorado game, it was obvious that the UGA players were different when AJ Green was on the field vs. when he was off the field.
No coach can control that; it happens too fast in a game.
First the players are trying to step up their game when Green is not available, then he steps on the field and the players unconsciously relax.
It happens at all levels in every sport; when a great talent steps on the field, the other players have to make room for him to make a play.
When he is unavailable, the lesser talents try beyond their capability.

When are you going to learn that UGA is nothing more than a bunch of Atlanta media hype? No one outside of the South even cares or thinks about UGA on the national landscape.
But hey Bark Madley, keep up the faith! Maybe in 2080 UGA can win their 2nd ever National Championship….I doubt it though! hahahaha

I mean, it’s not enough that y’all have the best team in the country and what a 19 game winning streak? That doesn’t satisfy you guys? You still need to rub somebody’s face in it?
Did UGA fans go to your blogs and hammer y’all when, just 3 short years ago you got beat by LA-Monroe? Or just two years ago when you embarrassed the whole SEC by getting shellacked by Utah? Or the whole decade before ‘08, when Bama just stunk?
Congrats, over and over! You’ve got the best coach, the best team, the best 2-year record, and probably won’t lose a game this whole season. I pulled for Bama against UF and Texas last season, but some of you arrogant SOBs are making it hard for me to do it anymore.

All the fans from other teams like to kick someone else when they are down. An understatement of the year to say that things do not look good. Also remember that 2006 looked bad, the Dawgs lost either 4 or 5 games in a row, gave up 50 points to Tennessee, lost to Vandy and at the end of the year turned things around with 4 big wins. Not saying it will happen but we have just got to win the next game. Take it one game at a time and make it to UF game at 4-4 and see what happens. Confidence is a wildcard in sports and if the Dawgs can get some who knows what will happen.

I think Richt needs to stick to recruiting because that’s what he has the skills to do. Bring in 4 and 5-Star players. There’s no doubt that he’s good at recruiting. Take a look at this list:
- 5-STAR QB
- 5-STAR WR
- 4-STAR RBs
- 4-STAR TE
- 4-STAR OLs
- 4-STAR DLs
- 4-STAR LBs
- 5-STAR DB
Let’s leave the other stuff (LIKE COACHING) to other teams in the SEC.

I picked UT to beat LSU last week, and they should have. I see a physical,no quit attitude, with a fiery coach eager to show the nation he belongs in the SEC. Ive told you this before,UT is not as bad as others think.Maybe a little lacking on talent but they play with great purpose.I say u line it up and run it right at us.I say UT will out physical us. I see it being UT 28 UGA 13. Dooley will win a few games this year that UT isnt expected to.Last week should have been one of them!

Mark, Who’s the writer discussing Georgia’s “misses” in recruiting. He’s talking about kids who were already on campus. That’s not my definition of a “miss”. A “miss” is a CAM NEWTON from Atlanta who has led Auburn to a No. 8 ranking. A “miss” is BAMA’S James Carpenter from Augusta, and Chance Warmack from Atlanta, who combine to make up the best OT/OG tandem in America. A “miss” is A.J. Hawkins from Atlanta who starts at center for Ole Miss, And Jujuan James, a freshman All-American tackle at Tennessee from N. Gwinnett. A “miss” is C. J. Uzomah, a 6′6″ 240 stud QB from N. Gwinnett headed to Auburn. Future “misses”include arguably the best OT prospect in the South, XZAVIER WARD, from Moultrie, likely headed to Bama along with the best running back in America, Isiah Crowell from Columbus. Hey Mark, What do you get when you combine Mike Bobo with Stacy Searles? ANS.: Ben Jones at center and CAM NEWTON at Auburn. Pretty funny, huh?

I’m sure someone in the first 224 comments has said it already, but winning the east would mean playing Alabama. Last time Georgia played the Tide, it was ugly. Good article and fun read!!!
Here is a more realistic scenerio for UGA in 2010:
vs. Tennessee – UT wins 28-17 – just a tougher team that shows heart.
vs. Vandy – UGA squeeks out a win – 20-14
vs. KY – toss up – let’s give this one to UGA
vs. Florida – UGA blown out …. again – lose by 3 TD’s minimum
vs. ID State – UGA …..wins big (whoop-de-do)
vs. Auburn – game over – early – Auburn wins big in yeat another embarrassing blow out loss.
vs GT – GT takes revenge and owns the second half to put UGA away – going away in the 4th Qtr.
Season Over
No Bowl GAME
Recruiting now struggling – Crowel,Drew committ to Alabama. Some of our verbals defect to other schools.
Richt gets 2011 – and will resign as a new direction will be needed.
Why would 2011 be much different that 2010?
Same players
Same RB’s
Same OL – except we lose Boling
Same coaches
Same results
I really hope that the above scenerio does not happen. But I see a team that is mediocre in talent – and just did not prepare well or seriously enough in the spring and summer – and now it’s too late.
Kind of like the kid that is expected to make A’s – but never studied until the night before the test. It’s too late for this season.
Coach Richt stated that he is coaching his tail off.
Well – SABAN and Meyer coach their tails off 365 days a year.
10 arrests = 1-4
I hate all of this – having to fire Coach Richt is aking to shooting Ole Yeller.
However, if the season does totally tanks – hand me the shotgun.

We are about to see the greatest coaching job of Richt’s career. He is going to turn the team around and we are going to get on a roll. This is the type of year where I could see us beating a team like Florida. We have nothing to lose. Years where we have lots of pressure, we tank. Nothing to lose means our team going out there balls to the wall and holding nothing back. We are very close to turning the corner. A big win vs. Tennessee would go a long way in helping to make sure we get on a roll going into that game.
As bad as we are, we are a few plays from being 4-1 or 5-0.

Mark, you do not surprise me anymore. You continue to drink the CMR kool aid. First, it took you almost 2 years to discover Georgia’s defensive coordinator and staff had to go. Now, you cling to the CMR bandwagon. I don’t understand why you and people like you simply can’t look at the facts. Quarterback – he is not the guy that will take the team to the conference championship and win it. Not this year or any other year. Running backs – there is not a single back in the current program that can go the distance on any play or get deliver 28-35 carries a game. Is there any reason to believe next year or the year after will be different? Receivers – Other than the infamous AJ Green, there are hardly any receivers that will make a defensive coordinator take notice. The entire defense – there is not a single name that will make even a second team SEC. CMR has hand-picked every player and every coach. The old saying – what you see is what you get. Looking at the 2011 and 2012 seasons – what players and coaches do you realistically see turning this team into a conference champion? It is just not there. It is not about injuries or re-building or chemistry, it is high level players (Georgia doesn’t have them) and outstanding coaches (Georgia doesn’t have them). Everything above comes down to one factor – CMR.

You Richt haters better get off the fire mark richt bandwagon. Major rumor that Spurrier retires at end of season and USC is VERY interested in Richt were he to be fired from UGA. UGA has a treasure in Richt and a couple of bad years should not cause you to be short-sighted. Oh the pain of losing him to USC. They would be a top ten team in no time flat.

In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.
Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.
Suntanned Saint Mark isn’t all he appears to be, is he?

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?
Just asking.

1- It’s not as odd as it looks. In 24 years of coaching, Richt’s NEVER won less than 8 games on any team he’s ever coached. So odds Richt gets to at least 8 wins, almost 100%. And Richt has a 9 or 9+ season 80% of his years at Georgia. So 80% chance Richt gets to 9 or more wins in 2010.
80% Chance Richt goes 5-3 in the SEC East in 2010.
2- Let’s look at The Ole Ball Coach. Spurrier has finished 4-4 or worse, 80% of the time over there at South Carolina. He did have 1 season where he finished 5-3, but 1 out of 5, ain’t good odds. Unfortunately for Steve, this is the hardest schedule he’s ever had at South Carolina, and he still has Alabama, Arkansas, and Florida, 3 top 15 ranked teams, to go. Let’s face it, Garcia choked so bad with his 2 late fumbles against Auburn that Spurrier benched him and put in a Freshman at QB, who also choked, and quickly ended the game with 2 interceptions.
80% chance Spurrier goes 4-4 or worse in 2010 in SEC East.
3- The trickiest part is Urban Meyer. For years, folks like me have been saying he’s overrated, and his wins were due to guys like Tebow, Percy, and coaches like Strong & Mullen. Also thought Brantley wouldn’t be very good, and I was right. I’ve said all along this would be one of those down years for Urban, another 5-3 year. So Urban goes 5-3 or worse in the SEC East 40% of his time, and goes 13-1 the other 60%. I don’t think anyone thinks Meyer will go 13-1, so you’d have to think this is that rebuilding year. Meyer looked so bad against Alabama, it was embarrasing. 31-6. Just got pummeled. Which did not surprise me. Can Meyer beat LSU & Georgia? I don’t think so, not with this team, not without Tebow, Percy, Strong or Mullen. But the odds are in his favor, because he finished 5-3 or better, 60% of his seasons. Also, Meyer has a number on Richt, and usually wins that match-up with a better running game and tight end. I don’t think Florida’s running game or tight end is better than Georgia this season. If Demps and Brantley are both hurt, it’s gonna be 5-3 or worse.
40% chance Meyer goes 5-3 in the SEC or worse in 2010.

I guess there’s always a possibility. But I’m not sure that would be a good thing for us, Mark. There are some things that really need to change at Georgia…not just for this season, but for the good of the program in the long run. (I’m not necessarily talking about getting rid of Coach Richt, but that’s definitely on the table.)
But if we were to win out, I’m not sure those problems would actually be addressed. And these problems are not just things that have happened this year…but are ongoing issues, like the lack of discipline, that have hurt us for several years now.

67% of the time, when Meyer gets his 1st loss around the end of Sept/Early Oct, it means he’s going 5-3. Look at 05′, and 07′. True, in 08′ he had the loss around that time, and ended up going 13-1. But he had Tebow, Percy, and Strong.
67% chance Meyer goes 5-3 in SEC East in 2010.

They always had the players to win the sec but Mr.Richt hasn’t made good decision for the team. This are a few suggestions for Mr.Richt.
1) Put Ealey in the I-formation – sweep right and sweep left on 1st and 2nd. Get the big boys up front to blow people off the ball so Ealey came blow by people. That’s what made him so successful in high school.
2) Move Dallas Lee( 6′4 295lbs) to the defensive line. This young man is a beast on defense. I saw this young man just manhandle my old hs team(Dublin Fighting Irish) in the State Championship Game. Dublin was no push over by no means. I am shock that Mr.Richt didn’t recruit him as a defensive lineman. Dallas Lee and D.Tyson should play end and let K.Geathers play the nose. Geathers just need to hold the point of attack while Dallas Lee and Tyson create havoc in the opponents backfield.
3) Start Alec Ogletree at safty. This young man is a playmaker and the biggest hitter on that team. He’s a different player when he is in a live game.
4) Mr.Richt need to wear ear plugs so Todd Gratham can do his thing.
5) Mr.Richt need to let the fans know that he will hold his whole coaching staff and the players accountable for how they perform on the football field. When a player do a stupid thing that could of been avoided Mr.Richt need to bench him for the rest of the game. Put someone else in the game. He could be the right person for that position.

Bradley, don’t take other people’s remarks and use them as your own. I posted this same scenerio in response to your “What if Georgia loses to Tennessee” article, as well as in several other places on the web (espn.com UGA message board and vlesports.com) in the last couple weeks.
The 3-way tiebreakers don’t work out for UGA because they lost to Colorado. First of all, Florida has to beat South Carolina, or else South Carolina takes on head to head. If South Carolina beats either Arky or Bama, and loses to Florida, then the 3-way tiebreaker would come down to the BCS standings (presuming all 3 teams are 5-3 SEC, 1-2 vs SEC West and 4-1 vs. SEC East). UGA losing to Colorado would probably have them last in the BCS standings unless Clemson beats South Carolina. FSU beating Florida would help too. Georgia needs South Carolina to be the last of the 3 in the BCS standings and for UGA to be within 5 spots from Florida.

It has NOTHING to do with Ga being a better team. Its purpose is to balance the betting. The more people who bet on GA to win the more it needs to become attractive for UT fans to bet on their team.

I wish UGA had to play Alabama this year. That would have been HIL-ARIOUS!
Let’s just look at this weekend’s game vs. Tenn. Last year, Tennessee won against an even BETTER Georgia squad 45 to 19…this year, UGA is far worst and far less disciplined than their team last year, hence that whole 1-4 record. If you think that UGA can clean up their crappy act within one week, you’re kinda crossing the line between optimistic to delusional.

They lost to MISSISSIPPI STATE for chrissakes. At this point, I honestly feel Vandy, Kentucky and Auburn have a shot. I really would not be surprised if the only game they won between now and the end of the season would be against Idaho State.

Tom,
that could actually happen as well. If Ga does make it to the SECC and happens to beat Bamie, then that means Ga beats 3 top 15 teams and lands them in the high top ten. The current top 5 teams could lose 2-3 games. What’s sweet about being in the SEC is that you have a 2nd and 3rd chance to win your way back into the thick of things.
Now thats what I call delusional, but could still happen…..

Chick,
The problem with Florida is that they have lost their incentive. With Georgia at the bottom of the SEC, the annual beat down of UGA in Jacksonville just does not have the same zing to it. Florida always had the honor of trashing the delusional dog fans dream season and now that has been taken away from them. For thirty years Jacksonville has been the place were UGA NC dreams went to die. This year, that honor goes to Columbia, SC. Tradition is very important in Southern football.

I’m an Atlanta native who ended up in Tuscaloosa, but I still read this blog regularly to hear what my friends are doing between the hedges. I saw the commentary this morning about how UGA finds itself in a conundrum about student tickets that go unused. I’d like to point UGA toward a solution that we’ve used at Alabama (one potential system referenced in The Red and Black) in recent years with significant success:
- All tickets are on our electronic cards using a system much like the one UGA has implemented.
- Students can use the ticket, OR:
o Upgrade it to a student guest ticket for a fee (the difference between the face value of the ticket for the general public and the $5 student ticket charge), which allows the student to give away or sell the ticket to anyone, even outside the university system. The catch is that if a student does this four or more times in a season, they lose the opportunity to purchase post-season tickets or tickets for the following season.
o Transfer the ticket to another specific student. This option does not incur a penalty of any kind.
o Donate the ticket to a pool of students who didn’t get a ticket for the game. Yet again, this option doesn’t trigger a penalty.
o Not use, donate or transfer the ticket. There’s a steep cost for this though: Do this three times in a season and face the sanction of not being eligible for post-season tickets or tickets next season.
We introduced this system for the 2009 season, and it has worked very well. It allows students the freedom to release their tickets into the public marketplace while not permitting them to do so every week without penalty. It also allows many students who did not initially receive a ticket to attend additional games (through a donation or peer-to-peer sale) while simultaneously permitting some student-to-student capitalism.
Perhaps UGA can adopt such a system and end its ticketing woes.

Wow… this shows you how far the entire SEC has fallen. This actually seems possible. For this UGA team to be SEC East champs would be an embarrassment for the SEC. UGA’s schedule is ridiculously easy this year. (What a bad time to have a “down” year!). The West has a great time in Alabama and then three fair teams in Arkansas, Auburn and LSU, but I wouldn’t fear any of them (except Alabama). This isn’t the year to be talking about how good the SEC is … (nor the ACC or Big East though)

How about putting together a column about how I haven’t met Elisha Cuthbert yet, but if I happened to walk by her and say the right witty pick-up line, she and I could fall in love and get married and have a million babies. That’s just about as likely as Georgia winning the SEC East. I don’t understand how you can write a column about how Richt’s the problem at UGA and then two days later still cling to this idea of UGA winning out, an idea that you’ve been clinging to ever since the second of the four losses. Go find a Braves story to write, this is ridiculous. Georgia’s not going to win out. They’re going to lose to Florida, and they’ll likely lose at Kentucky and at Auburn, too. Stick to non-fiction.

You’re correct. Mathmatically we’re still in it, put the red sea is going to have to part for it to come true. Stranger things have happened.

The PROBLEM is the 3-4 defense. Doesn’twork at college level. Barely works in Pro. A team cannot give up 30 points a game and expect to win. Same problem Willie Martinez had. Until Dawgs go back to 4-3 and play hard-hitting, solid tacklin defense, they will continue to lose games a la 30-28.

Maybe it’s time to take the team swimming again. Didn’t that work out pretty good a couple of years ago? I love the saying “coaching ‘em up”, as opposed to “coaching ‘em down” I guess. The key is to beat UT this week. If that happens I think the season will get much better. If not, then it could get as ugly as I have seen it in my lifetime. The low point for me was the 3 straight losses to Tech from ‘98 to 2000 and the last two years under Ray Goff. We haven’t reached that level unless we lose to Tennessee on Sat. IMO.

ummm not only have I been saying that but step 2 does not tneed to happen. SC could finish 5=3 if SC loses to 2 eastern teams
.
at 5-3 with a loss to Fla then all three will be tied. SC cvant go because it lost to Fla, Fla cant go because they lost to UGA, UGA cant go because it lost to SC. So division record breaks the tie leaving SC out of the race and only Fla and UGA in it. Since UGA beat Fla head to head UGA would get in.n (as long as SC loses to 2 eastern teams)

Babs Dooley has never been known to hush up. She is lovely and is loved by billions of us old UGA lovers. UGA class of 71 and 73 for me and the Mrs. Now, if Barbara’s baby pistol whips Richt and the Dogs, she will be politicking for him to move back home to coach them Dogs. His sister and other bro or bro(s) did graduate from UGA. He is a UVA man.
How Dr. Adams would respond? I have not a clue. Just a thought but for Mark Richt it will create un believablly negative vibes though out the UGA Nation if he is wiped out by Vince Dooley’s son and appears to also be out coached by a neophyte. Not good that will be.
The UT game is when we all are looking and watching. We all recall last year ( that WAS Richt’s rebuilding year ) and how UT just abused UGA in Knoxville. They just abused us twice in the last 3 games.

I’m a huge DAWG fan and I can’t see them running the table.
I do recognize there is a fine line between winning and loosing. A play here or there determines far more than given credit. Each game change 1 play, maybe a fumble or penalty and we win them all.
But nothing is indicating we will not keep that trend up as a theme for the last few years….. injuries, penalties and turn overs.
Here is one that hopes you are right Mark for Marks sake. That would be the HC Richt. Go DAWGS

Patrick, in order for South Carolina to lose to Florida, another SEC East team, and finish 5-3 would require them to beat Bama and Arky. while not impossible, it is more likely that UGA will win out than it is that South Carolina will beat both Bama and Arky and then lose to Kentucky or Tennessee (although they have a history of trouble with Vandy)

Lessee now; how can we pull this off ??
— All of the other SEC East schools jump to the Mountain West
— UGA’s game aginst Tater Tot State counts as 5 victories
— Meadowcreek High subs for the Gators. We sliip by 39 – 0 as
Blair Walsh toes 13 field goals The offense comes up empty in
300 + trips top the red zone.
— We trick Auburn into thinking the game has been moved over to
Valdosta High’s stadium. We win via forfeit, but still lose several
fumbles to the Coke boys.
— Put up billboards in Lexington stating “Adolph Rupp sez forfeit to
Georgia and get ready for roundball”. Put up another “W”.
— Give the Big Orange fans passes to the Grand Old Elberton Opry.
They don’t show up in Athens, the team goes looking for them,
miss the kickoff and have to forfeit. Hey, we’re hot now.
— Surely Lord, you will let us beat Vanderbrat straight up without
any of these well-planned gimmicks. Dawgs post another win,
but just in case, the PA announcer in Athens announces that
Obama has confiscated all private school funds. This sends the
Vandy players into seisure mode. We pull it out as all of their
players line up at the pay phone to call Mummy for more money
to pay lawyers to break grandma-ma’s family trust. A J Green
sells his mouthpiece to an NCAA official for $ 3000 citing a
late nite dinner date, and gets sent to bed without any supper.
— We will beat Tech – count on it. Their QB Nesbitt is temporarily
blinded as one of the bands’ tuba players squeezes a big zit
which flies out of the stands all the way into Cal’s helmet. No
Heisman for you, young man !!

The construction at the Stegman Coliseum is under budget by almost $7 million. Swell. Bulldogs can manage those hammering fool Yellow Jackets and work them over for a $7,000,000.00 cost savings. That is in ADDITION to the what? $65,000,000.00 that UGA’s Athletic Association has sittin in the bank, BABY!!! Money talks and smoke walks!!!
Now, if we DUMP MARK RICHT, we will owe him approximately $5,000,000.00 . So we are ahead in all of this by $2,000,000.00 a nice, tidy sum.

I realize Mark Bradley is not predicting that Georgia will win the SEC East, he’s simply pointing out what would have to happen in order for that to take place.
In the mind’s eye of a real soothsayer, here’s what would have to happen for the Bulldogs to win the East:
–a 9.4 on the Richter scale earthquake with the epicenter in Gainesville
–a fire reminiscent of San Franscisco 1906 in Columbia
–a massive jailbreak to spring a few more UGA players
–Obama turning Republican
–Barney Frank becoming a ladies’ man
All of these are nice to think on but not likely.

“If I was going to pick another one out of the stack there,” Steele said Friday on ESPN’s College Football Live, “I would have to say the Georgia Bulldogs. I think they’ve got a shot of even winning the SEC East and could very well run the table.”

My aching head. This is such a hard pill to swallow for the state of Georgia when it is their dawgs who have the journalism school Until they realize how bad they are they will never get better. Tech did it with very little sympathy from anybody, and probably because of that. If you are running a bake sale for charity and the cakes don’t taste like they are 20 dollar cakes who cares. This is a multimillion dollar enterprise where players are expected to be more mature than the people they report to. If they ran the table suddenly the red panties and hood like personalities are back to being hidden by the press. I have and have had a very hard time believing the press couldn’t see weakness in character in Athens long before now. I think Richt is a facilitator of all this. We put a choirboy on the cover and we can have nasty pictures inside the magazine. Losing is just the byproduct of a bun run operation. See no evil, hear no evil reporting facilitates this. I think Vick and Va. Tech was part of this blind man’s bluff too. “We had no idea Hitler was that bad, peace in our times”, but if those guys at Florida poke one eyeball, off with their heads.

Da way I see da world.
Dogs defense is smack. I check da nuymbers, Todd Grantham’s first year is right there with Nich Saban’s first year at Alabama back in 07′. I knew da dude was good, but Nick Saban good? That’s a + sign. Anytime you beatin up on Saban, that’s a + sign.
The Dogs QB is off the chain ya’ll. This kid’s a freshman, after 5 games, he’s already #11 all-time for yards for Freshman QB’s. He’ll probably finish in the top 5, easy. The dude’s protecting the pigskin–8 touchdown’s, 3 picks, better than Bama’s McElroy, ain’t too shabby. The kid’s gettin 225 a game in the air, and hitting on 61% of his tosses. Anyimte you see a QB beatin up on Greg McElroy, that’s a + sign.

To be a TRUE OPTIMIST, you have to go ALL THE WAY with possibility. Throw caution to the wind.
Why UGA WILL win the SEC in 2010.
Now that’s optimism. And possible.

You in rose colored glasses, hard to picture, but thanks for this article
I do appreciate your attempt to try and see some of the positives going on at the University of Georgia. Very refreshing.
And as long as the positives, are balanced fairly with the critical articles, no one should complain.
Good journalism.

Come on now, play fair. With AJ Green, Georgia’s 3-0 in SEC play.
Get real.
No way Steele thought AJ’s be suspended for 4 games.

Having no uga has clearly been the problem.
From your last article:
# Richt’s record with Neil Callaway as offensive line coach: 60-17.
# Richt’s record with Stacy Searels as offensive line coach: 30-14
That seems like the problem to me.

Rocky Top sez: “My questions is, would they be UGA fans at all if the school concentrated more on academics and the football team went 6-6 each and every year?”
Point taken. A lot of us who didn’t attend or graduate from UGA probably would take our entertainment dollars and fan allegiance elsewhere. Alums are loyal during lean times as well as fat.
But that does beg the question: Who do I follow if not the Dawgs? Tech? Be serious. Georgia Southern or Georgia State? Not yet. Morehouse? No, women’s schools don’t field football programs. I kid, I kid.
And I’m not confusing Morehouse with Spelman either. Some of us white folks know the difference.

Does anyone realize we will soon have a 12th player? No one seems to realize the importance of having the right UGA Dawg on the sideline. When we get the right Dawg in his dawghouse we can beat anybody. In stead of throwing all the players, coaches, an fans under the bus, let’s throw the fill in UGA Dawg! Georgia over Tenn. because we not practice full-speed and in pads….with a little hitting, blocking, and passion. Go Dawgs!

2) UGA wins big Saturday for some reason, 38 – 20.

Mrs. Cox has a better chance of surviving an entire season with Bobby at home. In fact she should not only wear the catcher’s mitt that Bobby wears in the dugout also don a mask.By the way, I still say that Chipper’s career ends as a result of injury incurred while engaged in coitus.

Trying to figure out how Georgia could win the SEC East is like telling a GED how they could figure out how to attend Georgia Tech.
Slow down. It’s obvious that beating Colorado and Miss State was too much, how planning a somewhat more attainable goal like winning a game?
What a dumb column.

You don’t have to consider the Western Conference in this equation. All that needs to happen is…
Dawgs beat Gators and run the table
Gators beat SC
Vols beat SC (or another Eastern team)
That gives Dawgs only 1 East Conference loss and SC 2

This really may be the wildest season we’ve seen in the SEC in a while. We could see both sides send a team to ATL with 2 conference losses this year. This conference is getting more and more competitive, and that is why we love it!
