He announced his plans to retire more than a year ago, and he and I have talked about it a half-dozen times since. But it didn’t really hit me until after the third game in Philadelphia last week, when the Philly and national writers stopped to shake his hand as they were leaving. Bobby Cox really is going away.
Love him or lampoon him, he has become part of our lives. He has managed the Braves since June 22, 1990, and we pause here to note that Georgia’s football coach on that distant date was Ray Goff, that Georgia’s basketball coach was Hugh Durham and that Juan Antonio Samaranch had not yet announced that the 1996 Summer Olympics were coming to “the city of Atlanta.”
Twenty years in the same job. Fourteen first-place finishes. One World Series title. (And only one, as his critics constantly remind us.) That’s a Hall of Fame resume, but sometimes I wonder if anyone around here can cut through the blather to see it.
It has become locally convenient to credit Bobby Cox for none of the games the Braves win while debiting him for every single loss. Anyone could have managed Glavine and Maddux and Smoltz, goes the line of thinking, except that no team in the history of sports has ever managed itself. (The Cubs had Mark Prior and Kerry Wood a few years ago — how’d those prized young arms turn out?)
And now we hear that Cox is culpable for his final club’s September slide, which again makes me wonder if I’m seeing the same doings as everyone else. With Chipper Jones hurt and Troy Glaus used up and Jair Jurrjens and Kris Medlen hurt and essentially an empty chair playing center field, does this look like a first-place team?
It isn’t Cox who has dragged the Braves down, I submit, but Cox who propped them up — 99 days in first place — so long. A lesser manager wouldn’t have kept this team buoyant after a poor April, but this manager kept believing in guys and tinkering with his lineup until something finally worked, and suddenly it was Memorial Day and the Braves were in first place.
We can and will quibble over his in-game decisions. That’s part of baseball. (As the famous baseball man Rocky Bridges had it: “There are three things the average American male thinks he can do better than anyone else: Build a fire, run a hotel and manage a big-league baseball club.”) I wouldn’t suggest that Cox never errs when it comes to tactics. Every manager does.
But I would suggest a team of such modest means that has conjured up 24 victories in its final at-bat has overcome both credulity and its modest means. I would suggest that these Braves rose so high for so long — and could well make the playoffs even now — because they were managed by a true believer. Who else would have stuck with Glaus into May?
Maybe Cox shouldn’t have bunted with Martin Prado against the Nationals last month. (He got mad at me for asking.) Maybe he should have redone his rotation to match Philly’s Big Three last week. (Although a long post by Eric Seidman on the pay site Baseball Prospectus examined the decision after the fact and reached no conclusion.) Maybe he should have given up on Rick Ankiel sooner. (But didn’t Ankiel drive in both runs in Washington on Sunday?)
OK, enough. The point here isn’t to try to persuade any of the bashers. If the space that awaits Cox in Cooperstown isn’t evidence enough for those folks, nothing will be. Today’s intent is to say that we soon we will be taking our last look at the greatest manager we’ll ever see. And if you’re too busy griping to give him his due, you have my condolences.
With that, I’ll open the floor for questions, comments and the usual Cox counterarguments. It’s overcast at Turner Field at the moment, but I wouldn’t take that as an omen. I have a positive feeling about the Braves this week, and I’ll be obliged if you join me in keeping the good vibrations happenin’, as it were.

This is the longest death march since Baatan.
If you are a .500 team over the last 2 months of the season, can’t hit above .200 as a team, have a pitching staff in shambles and lose multiple “must win” series to the worst teams in the league, you DO NOT belong in the playoffs.

What are three things that most men think they could do better than any other man? Build a campfire, make love and manage a major league baseball team. I laugh every time I read these criticisms of a future HOF manager by the everyday fan. It’s funny because every baseball professional heaps praise on Bobby Cox.
I think he’s done a heckuva job this year given our injuries and unusual slumps (which are of course TP’s fault according to Joe Fan)

MB:
There you go again. “does this look like a first-place team?”
But just last week during the Philly series you said that “the best two teams in the NL are playing.” So you tout your rose-colored glasses stance, and then when they collapse, you absolve Bobby of all blame by saying it’s not a first place team. This disgusts me.

Mark, the problem with a lot of this description is that you are crediting the anonymous people who comment on your internet blog as the pulse of Atlanta and Braves fans. I appreciate all of the added online content and understand that reporting has to adjust to cater to this audience, but no article about Bobby Cox’s legacy or appreciation among fans should be soiled by the skewed segment of “fans” who comment on this site. I personally don’t know and wouldn’t respect anyone who doesn’t appreciate just how great of a manager Bobby has always been, and I know a lot of Braves fans. The “Thanks Bobby” movement and the random tokens of appreciation such as the Bobby Cox cornfield display are much more representative of what Braves fans and real Atlantans think of Bobby. I would hate for your “mixed feelings” evaluation to actually creep into legitimacy because you got that notion from reading your own blog comments.

Great article. I remember when Ted Turner was in the dugout. Bobby Cox deserves all the credit in the world. There will never be a manager that has fourteen first place finishes. To those who criticize Bobby Cox for not winning more title, anything can happen in a seven game series. If the Braves don’t make the playoffs this year, it won’t be due to Bobby Cox, but to Frank Wren’s poor personnel decisions.

Name me another manager that could lose the heart of his team, Chipper Jones, and two starting pitchers, Medlen and Jurrgens, and take 2 of three from Philly last week?
Bobby Cox excelled at one very hard chore, managing people. The players play the game, not the managers. The managers manage the people on the team. And Cox is one of the great managers in the long history of the game.
The Braves never had a chance at the Division crown this season. The reason? With apologies of Ernest Thayer as I borrow his lines:
“But Flynn preceded Casey, as did also Jimmy Blake,
And the former was a hoodoo, while the latter was a cake;”
That is the Braves this year, to many hoodoos and one to many cakes.
If you must blame someone, blame the owner’s wallet. But do not blame Cox. He did a wonderful job with what he had.
The run by Cox, first as General Manager, and then as Manager, will not be seen in this city ever again.
And we will always have Skip’s call ringing in our ears: “Braves win!,
Braves win!, Braves win!, Braves win!, Braves win!”
Thanks for the many memories Bobby.

Poor Mark, he wasn’t here when Bobby Cox made his first tour. He had so many years of ineptitude, and pretty much ended the careers of some big name relievers, because he thought they should pitch every game. Oh yeah, Joe Torre took those inept teams and finished 1st and 2nd before being fired by a mostly intoxicated Ted Turner. In Toronto he was the first manager in the 5 game playoff series to lose after winning the first two and losing the next 3 (also did that with Braves 2 then 4). After leaving Toronto they won two World Series, came back to Atlanta while a terrific bunch of youngsters were setting records in the minors, and did his best management job ever last to first, before making some serious errors in the first two world series, won one, lost two to New York and the team disappeared at the same exact time Glavine, Smoltz, Maddox ended their run in Atlanta. Nothing good since, but oh yeah Cox was a magnificent manager (to some that don’t know better).

Mr. Bradley,
What about his decision to not change the lineup these past few games? It is madening to read DOB’s blog and see that same dang lineup posted when Prado is obviously done and Infante looks tried as well. If he want take them out, why not move them out of such key lineup positions. You neglect to mention that he was so stubborn with McLouth and hitting him leadoff, and finally he takes him out, puts Prado in there, and boom, the offense lights it up for most of the summer. Just saying why not change it up now. You don’t always have to dance with the girl that brought you if that girl has one foot in the grave and is pulling you in with her.

Great column today, Mark… you detailed very well how Bobby Cox has meant so much to the Braves franchise, both this year and in past years.
For all the critics who love to bash Bobby for the postseason failures in the 90s, I respectfully ask this: wouldn’t you at least like to cheer for a team that HAD some postseasons to fail in? Isn’t it better to have won a World Series title, five National League pennants and 14 division titles instead of winning NOTHING??? I mean, without those accolades I listed above, the Braves are the freakin’ Astros or the Mariners or the Royals or the A’s or the Mets or the Indians or the Rays or the Rangers or the Pirates or the Reds. None of those teams have done what the Braves have since 1991.

BravesFan54 – you are right. This year’s team didn’t have NEARLY the horses to go six months in first place and win a tough division. I quite frankly was AMAZED when the Braves got to first place in May and STAYED there for so long. They really overachieved.
As Mark pointed out, this team has little talent… aside from Heyward, Prado, McCann and Hudson (before about a month ago), this team has some very average pieces. Rick Ankiel? Matt Diaz? Melky? Lowe? Glaus? It’s not a superstar, full-of-All-Stars team… and injuries and exhaustion wore down our best players from May (Chipper, Glaus, Huddy, Jurrjens, Prado, etc.)
I feel lucky, quite honestly, that we’re IN a pennant race this late in the year… ask any Braves fan in late April if they’d take an 89 or 90 win season and a shot at the playoffs with a week to go… we would have all said YES! We can’t diminish what this team did based on a couple of rough weeks.

Best of luck to Bobby Cox. Thanks for the memories. And I guess somebody needs to get busy on his HOF plaque.
But I’m just dumb enough to take your bait, Bradley.
Challenging the oft-repeated claim of Bobby’s greatness as a manager is not to say he’s not a good manager or to denigrate his accomplishments. It is to say that a designation of greatness should be reserved for those who accomplish great things.
In Cox’s case, I’ll claim that his regular season win/loss record can’t be the only measure of his managerial acumen. You have to consider the number of World Championships attained against the number of World Championships attempted.
Everybody knows the story there – one out of five – and even more damning, one out of four in a span of five years. If your team is good enough to get to four World Series in five years, then your team ought to be good enough to win it more than once.
Cox accumulated an impressive regular season record for sure. But if that’s evidence of greatness, then why isn’t his mediocre post-season resume – and disgraceful World Series record – evidence of mediocrity?
I credit Bobby for his contributions to fifteen post seasons in a row; and I blame him for whatever culpability is his for the team’s futility once the post season was achieved.
Bobby Cox’s fingerprints are all over the Braves teams he managed during his distinguished tenure. And when it came to the post season, they’re evidence of defeat more often then triumph.

Randy and Steven — Yes, you two are SUCH baseball genuises that I’m sure MANY MLB clubs have contacted you with the secret formula for winning.
Sheesh. Morons.
The fact is, as a braves fan in the 80s, i would have LOVED to win multiple division titles and go to the World Series and win a world championship!!!!!!!!!! We can’t sit back now, years later, and say “well, we should have won more.” That is revisionist thinking! you think fans of the Cowboys in the 70s say “gee, too bad we ONLY won two super bowls”. You think the St. Louis Cardinals baseball fans of the 80s are disappointed they only won 1 or 2? You think the Orioles fans of the 80s are mad because they only won one title?
Winning a title by throwing cash around is easy (see the 90s Marlins, 90s Yankees, 80s 49ers, early 90s Cowboys before free agency, etc.) Winning CONSISTENTLY by BUILDING A FRANCHISE is MUCH harder and much more respected by KNOWLEDGABLE people.
You two go root for another team… I’ll take my Braves AND Bobby Cox, win or lose.

Randy — how did Bobby Cox choke when the Braves were 10 back of the Dodgers in July 91?
How did he choke when the Giants went on a wicked tear in 1993 and won 103 games and DIDN’T make the playoffs?
How did he choke when the Braves shut down baseball’s most dangerous offensive team in the 1995 WS?
How did HE choke when Mark Wohlers fell apart in 1996?
How did he choke in taking a MUCH less talented team to the playoffs in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, etc?
And how did HE choke when Chipper, Glaus, Medlen, et all got injured this year? THAT’S what did in the Braves — the team physically hitting a wall. It was NOT managing.
Why are you so hateful to Bobby, Randy? Geez, he helped Atlanta win a world championship!!! You are just a greedy bas**** if you sit there and think of it as ONLY one. It’s one more championship than any OTHER Atlanta team has!!!!!

Hey Randy — Tech fans tell me how great their football team was in the 1920s.
Dodger fans tell me about the Lasorda heyday of the 70s and 80s.
Mets fans still actually talk about the 86 World Series.
Until last season, Bama fans recalled the glory days of Bear Bryant in the 1960s.
So I don’t think Atlanta Braves fans are in any way out of line for celebrating a great, historic 20-year run of success under Cox from 1990 to this year.
I’ll take my division titles and NL pennants and World Series and I’ll be a true fan and be d*** proud of ‘em.

John,
Touché! But, as I have learned over the years, our dissenters who think Bobby Cox is a “great” manager suffer from grave cognitive dissonance. They are in laymen terms what are known as social, professional and intellectual laggards and followers and destined to always be employees and never employers, as is the author of this hilarious attempt to paint Bobby Cox as a championship caliber manager.
I wish the world’s finest nostril minor the best in his retirement but I will not allow the nostalgia of the moment’s end to blind me from the convincing and overwhelming evidence that despite Bobby winning the majority of 162 games 14 consecutive times over the like of the Mets, Expos, Marlins and Phillies to quality for the postseason, once there, he was absolutely the worst in-game, strategical, decision making, must win game manager in MLB history. Speaking from pure logic, one MUST be the worst to not get lucky more than once out of 15 chances to win the last series of the postseason.

During the regular season the worst teams win @40% of the time & the best teams lose @40% of the time. During the playoffs all the teams won @60% during the rgular season but 7 of those teams are not going to win the world series. I think making the playoffs over 162 regular season games is the more severe test of a teams quality. Bobby Cox and Joe Torre are the only two managers to finish in first place 15 times. Bobby Cox is the only manager (or coach of another American team sport team) to finish in first place 11 consecutive times.

For someone who grew up in Atlanta (near the stadium, in fact) and suffered through some of the worst teams in baseball, Bobby Cox deserves the keys to the city for what he’s accomplished over the past many years. I used to go to the ballpark to watch the OTHER teams. The Braves had “players” like Sonny Jackson.
Bobby Cox began to change things. Not immediately. But soon after his arrival the Braves as we had known them began to change. Who can forget the late great Skip Carey’s pronouncement that the Braves were going to the big dance – finally. I credit a large part of that to Bobby Cox.

I just found out that the Braves are going to pitch both Hudson and Lowe on 3 days rest the rest of the season.
I can FINALLY say that I agree with Bobby Cox on something, lol. Because of the predicament that we’re in….the SMART move is to have Hudson AND Lowe start 4 of the final 6 games (Hudson on Tuesday, Lowe on Wednesday……Hudson on Saturday, Lowe on Sunday).
What that means is that depending on how much Hanson is used today…….Lord Bobby can either come back with Hanson on Friday (3 days rest)……or use either Jurrjens/Beach/Minor combo on Friday…..and have Hanson available to pitch in short relief if Hudson or Lowe falters on Saturday or Sunday.
Another option would be for Bobby to come back with Hanson on Saturday (meaning he’d be pitching on his regular 4 days of rest) and have Hudson on Sunday (with Lowe available to pitch in short relief should Hudson falter on Sunday).
The point is that by announcing that Lowe and Hudson will be available to start 4 of the final 6 games of the season…..Lord Bobby is stating that these are MUST WIN GAMES and that he’s willing to do what it takes to put our guys in position to win.
Maybe, just maybe……our guys will FINALLY get the sense of urgency that this time of year is….and start playing the kind of ball it takes to get into the play-offs.
I like this move. The day off on Thursday gives the Braves more flexibility to make a move like this.

If we are to wax poetically about Bobby Cox and his contributions to the city of Atlanta and the Braves, than i agree his longevity and accomplishments will be unparalleled in this city.
Bobby Cox’s accomplishments are a byproduct of his longevity and not his “coaching prowess” unfortunately. What i choose to judge any manager of a baseball team is the results from which his decisions are made. Can Bobby manage a clubhouse and gain the respect of his players? Without question.
Should the Braves have won more than 1 World Series during Bobby’s 2nd tenure as the manager with the Braves? Also, without question.
I also believe that Bobby Cox should be celebrated as the greatest manager the Braves have ever had… but
i am very excited for the future of this team without Bobby Cox managing this team. Bobby is from the old school when it comes to strategy. The same things that are Bobby’s strength’s are also his weaknesses. His loyalty to his players will never be questioned, but his excessive stubbornness of loyalty to his players always will be questioned when his players underperformed to long.
I don’t write this to rip Bobby Cox, but to offer different view of the man we are asked to celebrate. I wish the Braves will make it into the playoffs for Bobby to enjoy the post season one more time. AND because it has been 5 years since we have seen post season play here in Atlanta. No matter who manages this team, the goal should be winning a championship and not just winning the division or making it to the post season. I want my team’s manager to have a burning desire to win a championship that rubs off on the players that makes them perform better down the stretch of a season or in the post season.
So while I say thank you to Bobby Cox for everything he has done for this town and team, I am looking forward to the new manager and hopefully a few more championships. One thing i hope the Braves do is put Bobby Cox back in the GM role. He didn’t get the proper credit for his work in that role before John Scherholz arrived. Frank Wren is completely expendable and having Bobby in that position is an instant upgrade.

I think some of these moves will payoff if the Braves can somehow limp into the playoffs. I mean Sea Bass doesn’t have the range of Yuni; but he’s hit a couple of blasts that have been the difference makers; and come playoff time we hope these savvy veterans (I say that with a bit of tongue in cheek) can put it together because they’ve been there before. I’m talkin’ Sea Bass, D-Lee, D-Lowe, Ricky “Sprained” Ankiel, Hinske, and even the Melkman who does have that shiny WS ring.

Here’s the e-mail from the Braves, Denny.
If two teams are tied for a division title and the Wild Card is also shared with a third team, the games will be played as follows:
• The two teams tied for the division lead will play the one-game tie-breaker, with the winner being declared the Division Champion.
• The losing team will then play the club from the other division for the Wild Card.
If three clubs are tied for first place in the Division with an identical winning percentage at the end of the regular season, then the tie is broken by designating the Clubs as “A,” “B,” and “C,” with selection of those designations based on the Clubs’ records against one another, and playing tie-breaking games as follows:
• Club A would host Club B on Monday, October 4th.
• The winner of the A vs. B game would then host Club C on Tuesday, October 5th.
• The winner of the A/B vs. C game would be declared the Division Champion.

Thank you Mark. Well at least if we only get a tie, we won’t have to play two games. You’d think they would just look at head to head and give it to the team with the most wins. I suppose they use head to head to determine who gets the game at their place for the wild card in case of a tie. Also, doesn’t that push back a series since they would likely play the Division game Monday and the next game Tuesday? That’s a lot of traveling for the losing team, especially given a west coast east coast scenario.

The decision on the pitching in Philly made absolutely no sense to me… it was clear before that series ever started that Cox’s decision on pitching that week would cost them the division. That said, however, Cox deserves as many statues as the Braves can afford to cast in his honor outside the Ted. He delivered the only championship of significance to Atlanta, and more memorable moments for us than any other professional sports coach/manager or franchise in the history of the city (except the Dawgs, of course… “professionals” all the way…
.
Thanks, Bobby, from someone who suffered with the Braves from 1974 through 1990. Turner was in his prime back then, of course, and Torre had a nice little run in 1982 but, beyond that, it was Niekro and Murphy surrounded by “entertainment” in the form of Mahler, Forster, and so many others…This is a team with a loaded farm system and solid pitching at every level of the organization. It will be great to see the names that line up to be his successor (perhaps Joe Torre? he seemed to leave the door open…).

I like Prado a ton and for his sake hate to seem go down. But for the love of Pete please explain how his absence makes our offense any worse than it’s been this month. Martin was a real key to first half success but obviously is not the same after breaking pinky. Would be a shame if he can’t play if we’re in the playoffs, but were not going to get there if this hitting slump continues. Seems every time Hanson goes out there he’s got to pitch a shutout to win.

I will miss Bobby for certain! Great man and great manager. Had tix for the family for the game tonight and didn’t go due to the rain, too late for a school night; wish I had gone now. Hope we make the playoffs, would be terrible not to after all the magic of this season. No other manager could’ve made wine with the water he was given – we were lucky to get this far on fumes. If we don’t make it, the collapse in Colorado and the Nats here loom large.
BTW – anyone else see UGA was too scared to play Oregon and backed out of their scheduled home and home series? I’ll bet it will be the sisters of the poor taking their place, as usual.

I been watching september braves at fox sports. The braves need motivation, they need to send Bobby in style. So they need to remember to get back on track to win the world series and have Bobby Cox say goodbye in November.
Like I told you I been watching braves on fox, and listening to Chip Caray as he do the play by play, and everytime he talks about the enemy and how good he has been, on the road as he did tonite with a marlin and then he scored. The braves had not been hitting much, but I noticed that Chip has been announcing for the other team, and every team that has play against braves. Why always he mess it up. Somebody tell him that braves fan are listening, and their not happy. He need to hear himself in past games when the other team scores, and just before they do it. Again and finally, Send Bobby in style. Give him another world series championship and win it please. Thanks Bobby for all those good years of baseball.

All of these comments dumping on Bobby. I saw someone post this last night. The Braves should have won at least two other World Series. Did Bobby make that base running mistake that Lonnie Smith made in 1991? Did Bobby throw his 3rd best pitch to Jim Leyritz that Mark Wohlers did in 1996? It’s not Bobby’s fault that those guys made those mistakes.

I said I did not think he would be a 30 HR 110 RBI guy that hits .300 I am also a betting guy and would bet he never hits 35 + HR. His swing is too long, which means in little glitch in mechanics will cause him to be late on fastballs. Not to compare the 2. But that is one reason Murphy stopped hitting in his early 30’s. His swing was so long that he could no longer catch up with a fastball. If Heyward has Murphy’s career I would be more than happy. But sadly, he will not

Learn baseball? Stay on point. Don’t stray with person nonsense. I’m saying great careers are made with consistent play. Aaron did it. Pujols does it. And I’m having trouble seeing why Heyward can’t do it. 86 walks in a rookie year? That means he will be hitting his pitches and hitting for average. The power, who knows. Bonds did not have “great” power most of his career. I think Griffey Jr. had a longish swing. He sucked.

I know that pay my 40% of my income (fed state and sales, so prolly more) or whatever it works out to, but then again, I don’t earn enough to pay, say $1 million dollars in taxes this year. If I had a lot of money, I know I’d have my team of accountants staying up late hiding it for me, and I’d still pay a lot but, then I’d have a lot and I would have a lot hidden. See, this is really the story of fair hard working people who earn $30-$100 or whatever and go to H&R block and are getting squeezed year over year. That’s fine, nowhere in the constitution does it say we have a right to a middle class. I know what stickler for the constitution you are. So, to sum up, you are telling me that the wealth disparity is so large in this country that the top 1% pay 40% of all taxes? While we poor working class stiffs also pay our taxes but it is hardly a drop in the bucket since we are so poor that it just barely even matters. Wait what are you saying, it just sounds like so many talking points, and those are always great ways to look at complex issues.

Something conservatives forget to mention is that the military DOES NOT protect the average American. It protects the trade interests of corporate America.
When America was formed, no one wanted to pay taxes or fund the federal government. However, because the Barbary Coast pirates were hijacking American cargo ships….all of a sudden TEA BAGGERS back then were BIG FANS of paying taxes to form a strong military.
Nothing has changed today. The Trillion dollar military budget that pays for the military and finance the wars we have going on help fatten the coffers of defense contractors and private security corporation that provide a variety of services in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Corporate America has gotten FAT during the war. What has happened to the average Joe who’s “defending” the financial interests of corporate America? He either gets killed, physically or mentally maimed, or charged with a crime that was committed because of orders given from above.

So everyone pays more or less the same amount, percentage wise, but it’s just that the top 10% pay more in aggregate. If I pay $100, it would take 100 poor suckers paying $1 to equal my $100?
I did learn something though, I’m in the top 10%. lol This is just numbers witchcraft. There’s nothing surprising about rich people having more money and then duh! paying more $$$ in taxes.

Bradley, it’s about finishing what you start.
If you’re up five games in the division at the All Star break with the best record in the National League and end up a half game back in the wild card with five to play at the end of September, you failed.
Doesn’t matter who’s on your team (I mean, guess six All Stars is chump change, huh?) or who’s on the DL, any individual with an ounce of objectivity would have to conclude that this season is ending in a resoundingly disappointing fashion.
Just like when you come out of nowhere and have back-to-back 90 win seasons after decades of futility, people are going to expect you to live up to that promise.
Bobby is, if anything, a victim of his own success. He had what it took to get his teams to the playoffs but not what it took to win. He should have been fired after the ‘96 World Series.
He wasn’t.
He should have been fired in ‘99.
He wasn’t.
If you’re going to keep disappointing people after getting their hopes up, eventually they’re not going to show up.
String it out over twenty years and it’s a miracle anybody in this town has anything positive to say about him.

Bobby Cox has been a tremendous regular season manager. Even with the big 3 and the Jones boys. He gave me some of the best baseball I’ve ever seen, and I’ve paid to see Biff Pocoroba, Glen Hubbard Mike Lum and Larvell Blanks. Yeah, some of the post-season stuff rubs me wrong, but at the end of the day, this current team has a great record with marginal talent and with all these injuries, it’s just getting to be too much maybe for this year. Overall it’s hard to take all this crying over Bobby Cox. Thank you Bobby Cox for giving me so much great baseball year in and year out. Not even the mighty Yankee have 14 divisions in a row.
