why was he hired from FSU? Because he was (is?) the best Offensive Coordinator in the country.

Mike Bobo is a damn good Dawg, but the wheels started coming off the bus right around the time CMR handed over the play calling duties so that he could be ‘more of an executive that manages the game…”

Let Bobo go back to coaching up the QBs. let him keep the title; but if Richt wants to right the ship, he needs to get back to what made him successful in the first place.

Getting rid of Richt is not the answer. Getting back to fundamental football is. With an incredible recruiting advantage (no real in-state competition to recruit 5-star athletes in a state that worships high school football) Georgia should have a fistful of NCs by now. Perhaps it’s attitude as much as athleticism that Richt’s staff needs to work on…

The writing is on the wall. The problem is many UGA fans can’t read. Thus remains the delusional and die-hard Dawg fan appearing on these blogs every day talking about how they can win the rest of their games or go on to the SEC Championship game. Of course, Dawg fans have been delusional for a long time; most are just waking up to the reality that UGA is an average but not great football program.

Glad you and Jeff finally came out and stated what many of us have been saying for quite sometime.

As for his remaining tenure I (regrettably) agree McGarity will defer the decision. But as you also point out the rest of this season will determine the outcome. I don’t see how a positive change in this team is possible with the current coaching staff.

I can’t stand it….but your right. How stupid can a player be? Baker????? WTH is wrong with you? I would be shocked if Richt didn’t kick him off the team with everything else going on right now. I like Richt, I think he is a fine man and a fine football coach. I do not want him fired at this point. Somehow, we got a bunch of “me” people on this team that really don’t care about doing what it takes to be champions. Richt probably knows this, but it’s the best he’s got apparently because I don’t see anyone getting benched. It’s time for some draconian measures to get control of the group of misfits that don’t deserve to wear the G on their helmets.

We (UGA Alums) need to be very careful on this one. Wiinniest coach ever – fired? Think twice how we will be perceived nationwide. Recruits will jump ship, etc, etc. etc…It would not be pretty. So support the school and Richt to turn it around or we will wish we had not torn down the program so publically.

to quick to call. Everyone needs to take a step back and look at everything before saying lets get rid of Richt. Richt has won 96 games in the ten years he has been here. He is the 4th winningest coach in that amount of time. You don’t just show him the bus after three losses. Look at what we had last year, willie martinez as d-coordinator we got rid of him. We have to give grantham another year to get his guys to play his defense, right now our guys have been brainwashed to still play martinez no tackle defense. Offense last year Joe Cox as quarterback and bobo as o-coordinator we were lucky to win 7 games. this year we finally got rid of martinez but still have bobo and freshman quarterback. Now I’m pretty sure no one will look good with bobo calling plays so he needs to go and then give richt a couple years to get this back to where it needs to be. Everyone wants Richt gone but who can we get thats better. Peterson at boise st, we saw what happened last time when a great boise st coach left and went to colorado, i believe they’ve won about 8 games in 5 years with him. There aren’t many meyer’s out there at these mid majors to get, so before everyone tells richt to take a hike, look at what you will be getting in return and what you gave away.

MSU is not a good team…thats the worst part about this. UK, UF, AU, and GT are better than MSU….MSU struggles to score 14pts on most nights….what happens when we play a team with a good offense….they may hang 40 or 50.

We lost our edge somewhere on the Christmas family platter in 2005, between the SECCG and the West Virginia Sugar Bowl and haven’t gotten it back since.

Super talent (Knowshon, Stafford) and emotional gimmicks (black jersies, endzone taunts) are not sustainable when things go wrong. A commitment to fundamentals, aggression, discipline, and THE PROCESS (see Alabama, Florida) are missing.

I lost faith in Coach Richt the year he started whining about UGA not getting a chance to play in the BCS Championship game. That same year they did not win their division, they did not win the SEC Championship, and they laid waste to a much simpler foe in Hawaii. At that point they looked like the US military fighting against the Iraqi army.

However, in the end, coach Richt was on ESPN extolling his reasonings for why UGA should be in the big game. the team did not deserve, yet he was there. That was my first true look into who I think Richt really is. Good man, yes. Good coach, thought so at one point in time.

Willie Martinez should have been fired three years ago. Not at the end of last season. Richt waited too long to make that change. Now he is waiting too long to do something about Bobo. To compound matter, Richt started Joe Cox, the mother of all crappy SEC qbs, all of last season.

My opinion last year was start Murray then and let’s take our lumps. That way going into this season, with an experienced OLine, with talented and deep offensive skill players, the O could function more cohesively.

But no, he took the path of desperation. One that led to a very poor season and landed the team in Starkville. Now the team is looking at the worst season since I can remember, and no bowl game.

Right now I can honestly say I expect UGA to lose every one of its SEC games. It would not surprise me to see UGA lose at Colorado. Tech will run rough shod on this team.

At this point the best thing to do is cut bait. A few years ago Auburn had issues with Tubberville. Tubberville one year removed his defensive coaching staff. The next year the offensive staff went. A few games into the next season Tubberville was gone.

Let’s just cut bait and start over. There are options out there. Richt has proven he is a very poor judgement of coaching talent. As an alum I do not want to go through at least two more seasons of this crap before something happens. Time to start moving forward.

Mark, what are your thoughts about the OC position? I feel we need a new way of thinking, one that is more dynamic, and one that bring excitement. Bobo’s plays are not doing it. It’s the same ‘ol playcalling from the 80’s and 90’s…i-formation and play action fakes. IMHO, that i-formation will not work unless you have an offensive line that can open up holes and a running back like Herschel Walker in the backfield. We have so much talent, why can’t the OC utilize that more. For instance, can’t we have both Ealey and King in there at the same time? If you look at Florida, USC, Alabama, and even Boise St, their offense is much more exciting. I think if UGA has a high-powered offense, I think fans would be more excited and get behind this team. Fans and players would feed off of each other’s energy.

Take out the discipline issues, as they are completely on Coach Richt. Consider this: when is the last time UGA has played with a senior quarterback & senior dominated lines- in the same year? We are in a coach-killer cycle that looks like this: freshman/sophomore lines, junior/senior quarterback. When we have our quarterback ready to lead us, he is plagued by an inexperienced line; when we have an experienced line, we have inexperience at QB. The cycle will not end until there is congruent leadership that is cycling in synchronization- AND a renewed interest in discipline.. A quick commitment to some JC linemen should help in the interim.

There needs to be some intervention with this Georgia Football program…Step 1: Mike Bobo needs to go. Step 2: LEARN to TACKLE. (we do not play 2-hand touch in the SEC) Step 3: Take some chances with play calling AND come up with a completely new playbook! Step 4: The “Ealey to the rescue” play does NOT work on every single down… (nor will next week’s “AJ Green to the rescue”) Step 5: Find your heart, renew your love of the game, have the confidence and desire to WIN and then make it happen… WE, the fans, cannot do this for you!

I keep hearing about all these great Georgia recruits but I don’t see any eye popping talent when I watch Georgia play. Maybe it’s a function of poor coaching and a soft strength and conditioning program that is keeping players from developing after they get to Georgia, but other than A.J. Green, who are the top caliber players on this team? The offensive line is soft, the running backs are mediocre at best, the backup QB is fielding punts and actually getting snaps at wide receiver. Offenses that play against Georgia do whatever they want. South Carolina ran it down their throat with a freshman running back who had 33 yards last night against Auburn. Mallett passed for almost 800 yards, 7 touchdowns and no interceptions in his last 2 games against Georgia.

If you were drafting players from the combined rosters of Georgia and Alabama, or Georgia and Florida, would you pick one Georgia player other than A.J. Green in the first 10 or 15 picks, and if so who is it?

The talent level at Georgia right now looks like it’s closer to Vanderbilt than to Alabama or Florida, and so does the coaching.

The program obviously has many issues, none bigger than the lack of character in the “student athletes”. They must stop recruiting Gangsta types and raise the standard. If Richt truly wants to right the ship, start kicking these types off the team, the rest will take note and work harder. Plus, he needs to take over the play calling again from Bobo-Brain.

2-7 in the last 9 SEC games. Unacceptable. Richt will never be at the level of Meyer and Saban, so might as well get rid of him now rather than waste two or three more seasons waiting for a turnaround that will not come as long as Meyer and Saban are around. Fire Richt after the Tech game, and go get one of Saban’s UGA disciples, Muschamp or Smart.

BUT…

if there is a huge buyout clause, we’ll see what kind of man he is. If he uses that leverage to keep his job despite underperforming, we’ll know he’s in it for the money and not much different from the rest of us. If he resigns before his contract expires, he’ll be a bigger man than most.

For those who think a coach doesn’t make a difference, i point to 3 programs.
Florida- stayed on top with Myer hire.
Alabama- regained championship form with Saban.
Boise St- they don’t have superior talent, but great coaching.

UGA is regressing fast both on & off the field and needs to act quickly with changes.
They need to determine what those changes are, but something needs to be done ASAP!

Bobo’s play-calling is the problem here. Georgia was a couple of plays away in all three losses this year and I don’t agree that Richt should go. The Defense has given them a chance to win, but Bobo has proven he is not the man to call the plays…..start here and then re-evaluate at the end of the year.

It was one of the few times I saw disgust and anger on CMR’s face after his team and players threw TD away by fumbling and penalties (ball hit Rambo on punt). It was actually one of the few high points of watching a team w/supposed talent get pushed all over MSU football turf. What a terrible display of “blind” play calling on 3rd downs. You’d think the UGA DC would take a page from MSU’s DC by blitzing instead of laying back and putting no pressure whatsoever on MSU QB. Both the OC and DC have to go. To be honest, I have not seen anything to make me AND MANY DAWG FANS think any UGA coach should retain their jobs. I was considering going to the CO game but not anymore. Win or lose, this teams play is too painful to watch. It’ll take a miracle to beat AU, FL, and dare say the remaining SEC teams on GA’s schedule.

Iy hurts to say CMR has to go but it certainly is looking that way unless drastic changes to coaching are made. Jim Harbough get your resume ready.

I tucked my tail and left the stadium. To make matters worse, some of the players and coaches were mouthing off to the Mississippi State folks on the way off the field. I got home and found another player was arrested this morning. Coach Richt looked bad on television this morning. White and pasty like my painted a$$. I think the hoodlum factor on this team may have caught up with us. It is a sad day for UGA football.

Hurts to watch this. CMR is a coach you would entrust your son to. But he has lost institutional control of this program. He is too nice and everyone is in a comfort zone. The players will miss him when he is gone.

The problems that are facing UGA are tatimount to the situation of to much hype for foootball players, too much party level in the students, an overaggessive Athens/Clark/ UGA police forse and too much idle time.
Most of the kids that are getting into trouble are from families that are not well to do, and most of them have no money. They are cast into a melting pot of PARTY town USA and are not supervised to the extent that they should be. They are also so required to be a part of football and NCAA rules so they cant get off season jobs to save some money to go to school with. They save the simple stipend they are given for road trips so they will have just a little money to have to spend.
These players are at UGA to make the coaches look good and to continue their (coaches) carrers. Less than 50% of football players graduate. If not for football schlarships less than 10 % of the football team based on SAT and ACT scores could even get into the univercity. There is way to much of a liberal appraoch to disipline as a whole. Tatoos, thug hairstyles, xbox image, and showoff mentality is way to previlent.
What ever punishment for missed tackles, fumbles, blown assaignments, missed blocks, poor choices, breaking team rules isnt working to solve the displine problems. There is way to much catering to the stars of the team, while the rest go lacking, a sort of do see dont tell attitude prevails among those that are supposed to supervise.

The overall problem with UGA football is lack of disiplne among the UGA coaches, players, administrators, Georgia regents and president.

Richt is 100% responsible for everything you are seeing on the field. He hired Martinez, not because he was the best D.C. available, but because he didn’t want to be overshadowed by his D.C. Martinez was a HORRIBLE coordinator and yet he still held his job (that he didn’t deserve) for 4 years. Now, you have Bobo who is Richt’s puppet and he clearly has not brought a system that successfully utilizes his players strenghts.

Richt is the CEO of UGA and he has shown that he is not capable of adjusting to trends, staying on the cutting edge, and making improvements to this program. He lacks the competence to hold his positiion as coach (as the level of the SEC competition has passed hime) and should gracefully step down. If any of you think that he is capable of changing his stubborn, unproductive ways, then you need to take your rose colored glasses off and be objective. It’s time for him to gracefully step down or he needs to be fired.

No way in hell a player wears his hair like that on my team. Does he carry a purse around in the locker room? Coaches who can’t even enforce basic grooming standards can’t expect to maintain discipline. Richt is exhibit A – Georgia has several players on the team that have interesting hairstyles, probably more than Tech.

John Wooden once called Bill Walton’s bluff about quitting the team when the coach insisted that he shave and cut his hair. Walton stayed, and UCLA won championships. Any b-ball coach in the country would have sold his soul for a player like Walton, but Wooden wasn’t bending the rules for ANY prima donna. Walton worships Wooden to this day. That’s integrity and leadership. Richt is actually doing these players a disservice by trying to be their friend.

I think the guy is burned out: tired of coaching a program full of dillusional fans who can’t get a job at a 7-11 but believe they can be a head coach; tired of players getting arrested who have absolutely no respect for their coach, their teammates, or themselves; and tired from turning around a program that was dead into a major program. It is exhausting work, no doubt. The guy has earned his respect and his retirement. He needs to make the decision. Hopefully, CMR can get the ship righted, turn the season into a positive one and then make his decision about retirement or staying on. I firmly believe the man can get it done and have full confidence in him.

I too am at a loss for what has transpired this season, but if you told me in 2001 exactly what the decade would look like, I certainly would have taken it. CWM should have been fired earlier. The play calling stinks. The OL and running game have regressed. Three disappointing seasons in a row. All true. Based on his resume, much like Tuberville’s and Fumler’s, Richt is a very good coach–not the Meyer and Saban elite–but certainly accomplished. First of all, it’s clear in hindsight how important Van Gorder was to this program. The early coordinators that led Georgia back to the #1 programs were Van Gorder and Richt (he was the coordinator until he handed the reigns for playcalling to Bobo). RIcht feels to me a bit like Tony Dungy during his final year. I get the feeling he has a higher calling. So, who are the top people we ought to be thinking about with a calling to the Dogs?

If UGA fires Richt, who do they bring in? Petrino would probably jump ship again plus he is a proven college winner everywhere he goes. He had Louisville one win away from playing for the National Championship in 2006. I know Falcon fans hate him, but he is not an NFL head coach. UGA needs a big name with head coaching experience, current coordinators will not do. UGA can’t go out and make a hire like Tennessee with Dooley, it needs to make headlines and be a splash otherwise clean house on the offensive side of the ball and keep Richt. Anyone have any other realistic options?

He’s GOT to go. Look at his background……Miami and FSU. It all comes down to discipline. Richt needs to find his stones and make a statement first thing Monday morning. And that statement would be to kick Demetre Baker off the team, then tell the rest of that thug bunch that the same fate awaits the rest of those losers should they run afoul of the law.

I don’t know what is going on in Athens, whether it is Mark Richt doesn’t have the balls to do it, whether the booster club has too much influence, or the athletic department will not let him, but he needs to instill discipline right now. Stop recruiting thugs, and start recruiting athletes that respect the game, the coaches, and the program.

I hate UGA, and I have really enjoyed these last 3 weeks, but this really is getting ridiculous.

I might feel differently if I saw reason for optimism… some signs of hope along the way. For example, if they played hard and smart, in spite of losing, I would have hope. But, unfortunately, that’s not the case. The most stunning aspect of their performance is the lack of passion and intensity displayed on the field (perhaps their passion and intensity is exhausted on the Athens nightlife). The coaches are either recruiting the wrong types of players, or are not motivating them, or both. Anyway you cut it, it falls on the coaches, and the head coach, in particular.

This is a program out of control. Now they are losing games to opponents they shluld beat. These young men have no idea they have the honor to be part of something bigger than they are. None of them are playing with heart. Where does this come from? Coaching! Athens Pen is being kept busy by the selfish for which the coaches have recruited. Every time one of these athletes screws up, they disrespect the fans, the students, and the University who actually fund the scholarship money for them to get an education and play a sport they love. Let’s not forget about the disrespect they convey upon their own team. In essence, they are being paid to play and they should play with honor, heart and respect. Monday morning I would like to see 3 things happen; CMR take over play calling, ACMB go back to teaching fundamentals, and last, hold every player arrested this year accountable for the next player who screws up. That’s right, if one more player screws up, kick all 10 + 1 off the team or simply bench them. 11 chaperones with futures at risk will do their best to make sure every player stays in between the guard rails. If they don’t and do not learn they are representatives of something bigger than they are, there are plenty of other athletes playing at the jr. college level who work hard, perform hard, do the right things with honor, and who would do anything to be a Georgia Bulldog.

University of Georgia Head Football Coach Mark Richt has called a Team Meeting.
The time of the meeting is at 3:00 p.m.
All players on the 105 man roster are required to attend.
Being it is required, the meeting will be held at the Athens-Clarke County Jail, since many of the University of Georgia players know where the building is and some are already there.

Finebaum told you folks a month ago at media days that CMR was a mistake and was in trouble. He even wrote an article about it.

I cant say i know who they should hire for their offensive coordinator job but i will say that i think Georgia needs to change their offensive philosophy. This pro style crap is three yards and a cloud of dust. I would say put Aaron in a spread situation and you have better chance for success. He looks uncomfortable! TCU’s coach or Bois coach are the hot names but I would say look long and hard and go outside the box, like they did when they hired Fox!

With all of CMR’s expericence on the offensive side, he should cerainly know that his offense stinks. Bobo is responisble and that should have been known years ago. Bobo has known nothing other than UGA in his career. He needs to be demoted or fired. And it should have been done 2 years ago. Now CMR has a big problem on his hands. Get rid of Bobo and lose another year adjusting or keep him and take over the offense. I would prefer he take over the offense and play calling and then work in a new OC. Bobo should head to the WAC and see what he can do there.

Georgia hasn’t won a National Championship in 30 years. And from what we saw last night, it will take another 30 to rebuild this lousy program.

And how did it get here? Not from a lack of money or facilities, that’s for sure. And we’ve certainly had some talented players.

It’s the coaching, plain and simple.

Look at Florida, Alabama and LSU. Good coaching. National Championships.

Let’s face it. CMR has NEVER been a good football coach. He ran the ball with no timeouts in 2001 vs. Aub. The dumbest thing I’ve seen this side of Les Miles. He only got this far due to luck and Van Gorder and talent. Well the luck has run out and the talent is diminishing by the yr(no kid wants to play for a losing program). CMR, take all the cash you’ve made. And start a mission or something. He will make a much better minister than he ever was a football coach. I don’t get the folks defending Richt:

He took 2, maybe 3 years too long to fire Willie. His staff is the reason we don’t have any experience at QB. His playbook is as stale as a week old loaf of bread. He made a commitment to all those Momma’s on how he would look out for their boys and yet, every offseason, the public defender’s office becomes Butts-Mehre East.

It starts at the top. For all the adoration he deserved for the 3 division and 2 SEC titles, Richt now deserves equal blame for our failures and meteoric decline.It is obvious that this Richt has lost the respect of our players and his lackadaisical attitude has permeated throughout the program and we are feeling the affect as fans, alumni and supporters of this fine University.

Firing Bobo won’t fix the problem. Richt has an offensive identity that everyone, including novel observers, recognizes as ineffective. In the ACC, FSU out-athleted everyone, save for UF and Miami and were successful. This is the SEC and we aren’t going to out athlete anyone and that is where the deficiencies in his philosophy begin to show.

We will never win another SECC with CMR at the helm. Sad, but true.

A year ago I would have asked ‘who can we possibly get that is better’ whenver this conversation kept coming up. I really believe from an administration standpoint the program is cleaner than it has been since I became a fan in the 70’s. I won’t blame the actions of the players (typical college kid stuff for the most part) on Richt. It is the whole football culture in the South that enables these kids to become spoiled brats with no ability to determine what they should or shouldn’t be doing.

All that being said, I WILL blame Richt for his ongoign recruiting and coaching decisions. Either the scouts are all wrong on the recruitign grades, or UGA is not doing much with these recruits when they get here. You look at what Saban can do (with similar recruiting classes that were brought in before he arrived) versus what UGA has done and you have to wonder. Richt’s best years were using recruits and players partially brought in before he arrived. He really has underachieved since that time.

We FINALLY have a defensive identity, and our defense is playing well despite major losses from last year. Our offense has almost every single player returning and we still can’t get anything done. We have NO identity on offense. Other teams laugh at our offense. We can’t run the ball. Don’t give me any nonsense about defenses not having to respect our passing game and stuffing the run. Do you think anyone respective McElroy and Alabama’s passing offense thru the first 74% of the season last year? Did that prevent Alabama from running the ball? Why can’t all the supposed stars on the OL run block?

UGA needs to get back to smash mouth football. Enough of this finesse stuff. You win by running the ball and stopping the run. Just ask Spurrier how that’s working for him this year now that he tried. Ask Saban. Ask OSU. Ask Florida (despite popular belief, they run and stop the run as good as almost anyone in the SEC when Tebow was there). We need to change our offensive philosophy, and start recruiting big smash mouth type of OL and not the finesse blockers. If Richt can’t pull the trigger on making the neccessary changes, then he needs to go. I know the big problem is that Bobo is a great guy and a UGA guy, but he just isn’t getting it done on offense.

I admit, the season looks like it could be a major disaster. I expected UGA to get better, & you would think they should at some point…like they normally do. I hope they san turn things around, but it’s hard to have a lot of faith right now. It’s easy for people t ostand back & say to fire them all. I know most teams struggle in their first yr. w/ a new coach. So, I don’t know if defensively if it’ll take a little while to adjust to the new defensive scheme, & maybe even to get teh right players for it. I think it would be a shame though if they did end up firing Richt, which would most likely be the end of Grantham too, without him having a chance for them to adjust to the new scheme, bc this is only his first system there. It seemes to me like the offense is more of the issue, but I’m not trying to say that’s the only one either too. Don’t know what to expect at this point, but jsut hoping things turn around at some point.

Chris Peterson would be nuts to leave Boise St. for UGA. He was a well-oiled 12 or 13 win per season machine there. He could probably stay for 20 more years with job security if he wanted. He seems more like a Western USA kind of guy than a Deep South kind of guy. He’s a media darling and America’s favorite underdog. It’s very rare for assistant coaches in college to get fired during season. The last I can recall was Tony Franklin. At the time that he was fired Auburn was 4-2 and 2-2 in the SEC.

I have always supported CMR and his approach at UGA – until now. We are watching a team that does not appear to be well coached. Last night we had penalties for 12 men on the field ( coaching ), we had a player let the punt hit him and msu recovers ( they should be coached to find the ball and stay out of the way ), and play calling that is not exactly Kreskin like in predicting. Then we come home to yet another 4:00 a.m. arrest of a Ga. player. For those counting that makes 10 arrests since January.
At what point does the university say “enough is enough”? I think CMR is a decent man and a really good coach who may very well have lost the desire or whatever to continue cause we sure do look and play like a bad team. And I am truly sorry that it has come to this in Athens.

First let me say I hope Mark Richt can turn it around…. however I’ll admit as the losses and arrests continue to mount my patience and confidence is running thin.

Second I’ll say from my perspective Chris Petersen is not an option. I really don’t see him leaving the comforts of Boise to go to Georgia. He is very devoted to his family and isn’t driven by money and success like Meyer and Saban. Culturally I don’t see him as a fit at any SEC school and if you believe the rumor mill he has already turned down opportunities at Washington and Mississippi State.

Third… I don’t know what the solution is for Richt at Georgia, but I don’t think him taking over as Offensive Coordinator is the answer. Bobo is running Richt’s offense and the reason Bobo was promoted to OC was because the offense was underachieving with Richt working as his own OC. Georgia was successful under Richt because of our defense under VanGorder… in the entire tenure of Mark Richt our offense has never ranked higher than 20th in total offense and it has only been as high as 20th twice.

I believe that CMR is doing all he can to win…unfortunately, the game has passed him by. The FSU offense/defense of the 90s just doesn’t work that well today as football has become faster. Our “pro-style” offense works great when you have “pro-type” players. Notice how looooooooog it takes for our plays to develop, then watch Bama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Auburn, etc. I would go after Utah’s coach first, and Temple’s next. Just my opinion. (And kick the LB who got arrested this AM off the team)

We “Fair Weather” fans have given Richt 10 years, repeat 10 years, to take this program to a new level. Well, he’s done it, an all time LOW level.

I knew that Kiffin was a loose cannon when the Raiders got rid of him so why didn’t the Vols know that. I rather watch our young men lose games under a new HC who will make good decisions for the team and know how to get the players to play smart fundamental tough football than to see the same old stupid game managing by the current staff. From an outsider looking in, it all seems to have gone downhill after CMR instructed his team to flagrantly break the rules with that touchdown celebration against UF. How can you tell a team to intentionally break the rules then turn around and tell them to follow them? If it is ok to break the NCAA rules on the field, why not off?

I think the off field problems are going to get him canned a lot faster than the on field. I can’t think of another AD or university president in the country that would put up with it.

I have defended Richt and been patient. I want him to be the guy. This morning however, I have had enough. His change in need of change is as effective as Obama’s. We have lost 3 conference games to inferior opponents. Inferior only in talent. We have been beaten with intellect, discipline, and heart. I can’t stomach that.

Like the announcer said on the telecast last night. We knew what they were gonna do and we couldn’t stop it. These are dark days and I am heart broken. We have missed our opportunity in the last 4 years, to take this program to the top. Enough talk about what should be, because it ain’t.

Seriously, none of those west coast coaches will come South. Neuheisel turned us down flat and he pretty much said “my wife will not live in the South”. I think most of those west coasters feel that way. So I would go for a proven head coach at a smaller school, not an accomplished assistant.

Tech gets out-talented, and Georgia gets out-played. Lack of intensity. Lack of discipline. Lack of physicality. Lack of and identity. Lack of focus. Lack of execution. These problems have been apparent since 2008. This is a football program that has lost its soul. The leadership is not there. This is not about the talent on the field. Richt has lost his “mojo”, and once it’s gone with a coach, it doesn’t come back. Unfortunately, I think we’re stuck watching this train wreck at least through next year. I don’t think that those who make the decisions at UGA demand excellence, like many fans wish that they would. And there are those out there who think mediocrity is acceptable at UGA, because for the most part, it is all they know. It really hurts to watch this team play. I know the players are trying as hard as they can, but they are not capable of competing in the SEC as long as the current coaching staff is leading them.

Wow did not know this state was full of out of work college football coaches.
Maybe we should remember that these are kids playing a game and

I will say that things are going array quickly in Athens. One thing that makes a team good is when a team ‘buys into’ a coach & the coaches’ system (provided it’s a good system & the players are decent). Richt has lost the confidence of this team, and that is devastating. If he can’t gain control of these guys VERY SOON, this snowball is gonna get really big, really fast.

Being a “good christian man” is irrelevant to job performance. Not a bad thing to be, but irrelevant to competence even though it might help you some in recruiting in the South..

Nick Saban is a devout Catholic. He goes to Mass every Sunday. If it is a road game and the team is not coming back that night, the staff has to find the nearest catholic church. But no one ever talks about it, and he never discusses it with his team. It is irrelevant to his role as coach.

I am a TRUE Dawg Fan. Win or lose, I would still support the Dawgs. But I must say that Coach Richt had better get a lot more assertive with his players, and coaching staff. He has to get very tough on the Coaches, and the players as well. As mush as I am a rivalry with Steve Spurrier, (being anywhere and playing against the Dawgs) I have to admit that Coach Steve Spurrier makes champions out of his players. He also has absolutely no tact when it comes to his players, and his coaching staff. If there is something wrong with either of them, he will definitely make it known to them, and to the public. Last night, against Auburn, he took out Garcia (Quarterback) and benched him. In Garcia’s replacement, he put in a freshman quarterback without any hesitation. You see, Coach Steve Spurrier, says what he means, and he mean what he says. Being quiet and passive with your players and coaching staff and not holding each and everyone them accountable for their actions and performance, in unacceptable and it will get you in the hot seat to be fired. Coach Richt appears as if he does not have control of his players, and the entire team. Coach Mark Richt had better wake up and get total control of his players and coaching staff. If the players are not performing up to his potential, Coach Mark Richt have a duty, and a responsibility as a Head Football Coach to bench that player. if your Offensive Coordinator are not performing to your standards, and the team is not responding well to the play calling, then you need to take over the play calling and terminate the Offensive Coordinator. The time is now Coach Mark Richt to take control of your Team before your team and coaching staff take control of you. Food For Thought.

With an incredible recruiting advantage (no real in-state competition to recruit 5-star athletes in a state that worships high school football) Georgia should have a fistful of NCs by now……..that was spot on GR82BAG8R. There is no excuse for uga to be in the condition that we are in. Tons of NFL talent from GA, tons of money, no real in state recruiting competition.(compared to other major programs) UGA has underachieved for quite a while now. Uga would be a perfect job for Petersen or Harbaugh. Any UGA fans who accept richt’s mediocrity are delusional. He hasn’t won anything since Van Gorder left or since Saban has been at Bama or Urban has been at UF. He isn’t on their level.

One of the main problems is who we have recruited. To many gangsta, rapping thugs and low character guys. To hell with Green, who put himself above the team, like alot of these giys just using us for a stop off to the NFL. Personally I do not care about the NFL or for that matter how many players we send there. I want to know how do you feel about playing for UGA. Maybe we should look at some high character kids with maybe not as many “stars”, but who are coachable, have respect, will stay out of jail, and will be TEAM players and give their all for UGA. Remember, Mark Ingram was rated 3 stars, which probably means we did not even try to recruit him. Also, if someone does something wrong CMR needs to lay the wood so to speak to him. This one game suspension against sisters of the poor does nothing but make CMR look soft…just like his team. Top 10 recruiting classes 4 out if the last 5 years and we are 0-3 in the SEC. We are either recruiting alot of the wrong players, are we have no idea of how to coach. We have paid a guy 3 quarters of a million to shore up our defense, and I know I should give the guy more time, but for that kind of money I expected more than what I have seen so far. I mean for that kind of money seems we would not have as many complete breakdowns in the passing game as we have, but then with the lack of character kids we have recruited maybe they don’t listen to coach at all. It is time for someone to put an end to this crap. Because of what happened with our AD this summer and all the other arrest we are viewed as a joke around the country anyway, and being first in the party school catagorie is not my idea of gaining some sort ot respectability for the state “university”. Seems of Richt can’t get this mess that he has allowed to happen under control, he needs to back away gracefully. Then if we are lucky maybe we could find a way to get rid of the sorry president we have been saddled with at UGA.

First, recruit on character. Second, recruit on academic ability. Third, recruit on athletic skill. Then, when we lose, at least we will have an “excuse” for being like Vandy and Duke.

Any player who makes a “mistake” like those we have been seeing, including DUI and driving without a valid license, should be off the team and their scholarship rescended immediately. The way you put an end to this is to send a clear message that it will not be tolerated for a moment. And quit making an excuse that these are young people who make mistakes. 98% of the student body gets by without making these mistakes, and they are not getting food, housing, tuition, travel, and per diem given to them.

Students who play for the university should be viable students. No more “special admits.”

Let those who meet numbers one and two play. Give them the scholarships–they deserve them.

Folks ……….this is very easy to read. To start with, UGA has had these same problems for about 5 years. In the past, the KYs, the SCs, the MSUs or Ole Miss teams of the league could not hang with UGA’s somewhat better athletes and Richt and his teams would usually win outl. Now? That has changed with the influx of BETTER mid level teams. They went out and got better head coaches.
Over the last 10 years, Richt could not hang with the Floridas or the UTs on A REGULAR BASIS. He did just ok with the LSUs and the Auburns and the lil GTs, Mich States, and Hawaiis of the world. UGA was a solid second tier prgram and I was fine with that like 10-2 and a nice NY Day bowl. Second Tier on a consistent basis is very hard to maintain and we now see how hard that is.

Richt Now? He lacks QUALITY O linemen, d linemen, linebackers and corners and safeties and running backs and did I say running backs and receivers and a good, solid back up QB. He has let it slip between his fingers. His schemes that worked in the 90s at FSU vs. weaker defensive teams like GT and Wake Forest and Maryland and NC State and mighty NC, Clemson,etc. have been solved and his FSU smallish players cannot compete with the beef here in the SEC. This is the core problem. Period. it is this easy.

Anyone beyond a casual UGA observer knows that this is true. Richt has been TOO SLOW to recognize it out of stubborness or maybe arrogance. It will cost him his job. He refuses to get better players. He inheriited Donnan’s kids.

There SOON WILL BE mid season changes in the UGA coaching ranks at a minimum. UGA can go get former players TODAY that played for years in the NFL and do better than the current line coach, the running backs coach or the receivers coach and the O co ordinator. That should be step one.

If there are no major wins this year like UT and Auburn and Florida and for sure GT, Richt will be fired and frankly, I doubt that Dr Adams would even consult his new AD. Adams will just call Richt and ask him to resign and if not, fire him. UGA- AD McGarity knew coming in what the SEC rap was on Richt. I will guarantee that. He just cannot imagine that it is happening so rapidly on his brand new watch. I suspect that the AD is stunned.

Folks, this UGA problem will take 3 to 4 WONDERFUL years in recruiting to make UGA really a top level SEC squad again ………….. a new coach will not be that quick fix like we might imagine.

Soft, lethargic, uninspired, passive, tentative. Any others?

Richt’s team approach for the football season is like that of a couple’s retreat – let’s meditate, hold hands, go swimming, and get to know each other a little better. We will runs some plays later.

Saban/Meyer appear to be all business, all football, and focused on winning.

I get the impression that a player called in to Richt’s office might say something akin to, “hey Mark, thanks for the hug, I’ll try to do better next time”.

On the other hand, Saban’s player has a bowel movement in his under armour’s before entering the doorway.

Sometimes fear is a good thing.

For the first time in over 30 years, I did not renew our 4 season tickets for 2010, and now I’m glad we didn’t. Coach Richt, sorry to see you go, but the program has been on a downward spiral for the past 5 years. Let’s put together the most attractive package available for either Will Muschamp or Kirby Smart. It’s time to hire someone with a defensive mind; that’s what wins games, not offense. And by the way, Philip Fulmer is still a tremendous offensive line coach!!!!!!!

The player who was arrested this morning was just trying to move his car somewhere that Wash-Out Ealey couldn’t hit it.

I wonder how much Ealey is collecting from the bookies for shaving points.
