News from Philly: Vick named starting pitcher … er, QB

Philadelphia — Talk about timing. I was planning to stop by the Eagles’ practice facility tomorrow en route to the final game of the Braves-Phillies series. My intention was to speak to Michael Vick about how graciously he has accepted his role as the Eagles’ No. 2 quarterback behind Kevin Kolb. And then …

Ten minutes ago the press box at Citizens Bank Park, which is just across the street from the Eagles’ stadium and down the road from the training complex, went nuts, and it had nothing to do with the Phillies or the Braves. The Eagles just sent out a blast e-mail announcing that coach Andy Reid has named Vick the starting quarterback. (This represents a major reversal on Reid’s part: Even after Vick had led Philly to victory Sunday over Detroit, the coach maintained that Kolb, who missed the game with a concussion, would remain No. 1.)

And I’m thinking: Good for Michael Vick.

Because I’ve never been able to dislike him as a person. Because I’ve always considered him capable of being a first-rate NFL quarterback. And because tomorrow just got a bit more interesting for yours truly.

Oh, and you’ll never guess which team visits Lincoln Financial Field — that’s the stadium across the street — on Oct. 17. Yep. The Atlanta Falcons. Them again.

Balderdash, the biggest killer of black men is black men. Are you as superior to black men as you are to these poster’s forefathers?

Good for him. He is making the most of his second chance. America allows that. He suffered financial losses I could only dream about. He served time. He paid his dues for his crimes. Clean slate now. I wish him the best. Except against the Falcons.

Mark, as badly as i hate to say it, I just dont believe the Braves can match up with the Phillies and will be lucky to take one game in this series.

If the Vick is performing better than Kevin Kolb in practice and on game day, he should be starting. Vick has paid his debt to society for his dog fighting.
A bigger question is when are the the leaders of PETA (who make 6 figure salaries, plus expenses) going to be punished for killing 97 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2009? According to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer services, PETA killed 2,301 of the 2,363 cats and dogs it took in last year. That means PETA found a home for only one out of every 300 animals at its headquarters.
Please help animals by supporting your local animal rescue agencies in lieu of national organizations like PETA who care more about their self-enrichment rather than the animals.

The day MV7 was indicted, I was living in China and was actually offered a menu with dog as a main dish.

If all you so called dog lover / Vick haters could think past your nose then Walmart would be out of business.

Congrats to MV7 for making it all the way back!

even with the wildcard berth the Braves won’t get past Phillie. must be discouraging for the team to realize that.

Hey VS……seriously, who thought they really traded McNabb to a division rival because of a belief in Kevin Kolb? Who fell for that?

If Vick plays well, and earns a big contract, and actually does the right thing and pays the Falcons back part of his signing bonus, won’t that give us some cap relief. I hate what he did, but I still love to watch him play.

He is a thug, but Reid has done a good job with him in Phillie, he looked like a real QB in the last game, something that he never did in Atlanta. If he can do that, and then run when it is there, he could a very good QB.

Depends on which position you compare Prado at. I’d give him the nod over Polanco.

Also, McCann and Ruiz are pretty close this year, but Ruiz is having a career year, while McCann’s around his career averages. When you count that McCann spends enough innings behind the plate to get 450-500 ABs a year, while Ruiz has never gotten 400 ABs in a season, I think you’ve got to give McCann the nod too.

All right Mark here we go. Ok football & baseball, I loveVick’s game & he has a world of talent but this will divide the team like TO did years ago, Reid knows he should go with his starter unless he is still hurt. That being said let’s talk about baseball we are not getting people over plain and simple we are not playing small ball, fast ball, or any ball when it comes to RBIs. Move somebody over Bobby please, can we at least try to get some movement on the basepaths.

GT, Prado is a fine player, in fact I think he’s been the Braves’ most valuable player this year. But he’s having a career year like Ruiz so that tempers my enthusiasm a bit.
