Quality-of-life-wise, it would behoove this man to win next week. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Not to say I’m smart or anything, but the Georgia season has played out the way I figured: Win, loss, loss. (No, I wasn’t so all-seeing as to know A.J. Green wouldn’t have played a down.) I also had the Bulldogs winning eight of the next nine games and finishing 9-3, which I do believe will occur. That said …
The Mississippi State game has long seemed to me the pivot point of Georgia’s season. It’s a game UGA should win, but it’s on the road in a different time zone, and strange things can happen in the realm of the cowbell. And today I pose the musical question: What happens if Georgia doesn’t win in Starkville?
Nothing much, I submit, but I’m willing to concede I might be in the distinct minority. Opening the SEC season 0-3 hasn’t happened under Mark Richt — to be accurate, the Bulldogs have never before been 0-2 in league play under Richt — and would loose all manner of outcry from the masses. Greg McGarity, the new AD, wouldn’t join the chorus, but even a new AD couldn’t help but note the furor.
I say again: I think Georgia is going to be fine. This is a young team with a new quarterback and a new defense that faced two very difficult early games without its best player. I find no dishonor in either defeat. And I expect these Bulldogs will tame the maroon Bulldogs on Saturday in Starkville. But I’m pragmatist enough to grant that this could get ugly if UGA doesn’t.

I must beg to differ with you Mark——this is NOT a young team. The starting 22 consist of:
10 Sr
10 JR
2 So Murray and Charles, a RSF = a SO, just has more eligibility.
The problems with the dawgs is the coachng staff—wake up and smell the coffee.

Fire Bobo , the defense will learn and be great the offense should be great now even without AJ. Play calling is so sasd looking and I dont understand why we have to go several years before CMR does something about it. I just got rid of my tickets to the Colorado game, let me know when Bobo is gone.

Grady, SC started the season off with Southern Miss, who by the way, beat Kansas this past weekend 31 to 16 and Kansas beat Ga. Tech. So, apparently that was a good win, especially for game 1. Then they beat Ga., then they beat Furman, while a non-BCS team, they are expected to win the Southern conference. To me, next week and Auburn at Auburn is the key to the rest of the season.

*We’d rather have Richt than Saban because at least he’s a good man.
*Saban wanted Grantham but Richt stole him.
*Grantham coached Bama’s D last summer not Saban.
*King and Ealey are better than Ingram and Richardson.
*Phil Steele has us at #3 and he is the best of all predictors.
*Richt has the highest winning percentage of any coach last 10 years.
*Saban follows his good seasons with 7-6 seasons.
*This is the best O-Line in the country.
*Saban will leave Bama in ___ years.
*UGA will own Florida this year.
*UGA wins the East and beats Bama for the SEC.

The Dawgs need to leave the SEC and join the ACC where they can win. They will never win another SEC championship for the starving rednecks following them. A lovely thought. Alabama would destroy them. And forget about Florida again this year. Tennessee too. The Jackets will implode again this year.

Triple H here. I became a Dawgs fan while wrestling in Atlanta Ga.
I know Ga. Tech plays in Atlanta but I didn’t think it would be cool to be an insects fan. Why did they choose that pathetic name any way ? Yellow Jackets ? Any hoo, I was thinking 2 days ago about UGA as I had Randy Orton in a submission move that UGA is in submission as well. They are giving up. This is unacceptable and changes need to be happening. When Orton finally submitted I told him “Yeah you UGA Dawg”. He looked at me funny and shook his head in disbelief. I knew what I meant though.

I will have to agree with those on here that said our last offesnive play on 3rd down was mind-boggling. We only needed 4 yards for the 1st down and all we wanted was to drive down to kick a field goal. So what in the world was that play call that sent every receiver 20 yards downfield?? All we needed was a little out pattern to any of the wide outs or a dump off to Ealey.
Bobo is an idiot. And Richt isn’t much better for allowing this to happen.

I put this loss squarely on Bobo’s shoulders, how in the world with 3rd and 4 and less than two minutes in the game and a freshman quarterback do run all your receivers 20-30 yards down field with no outlet available. Stupid play calling! Give the kid a chance all we needed were a few first downs and with Walsh we could have won that game!

Yea, I still enjoyed the game. My father played for Georgia before he joined the Marine Corps in 48—–so I will always be a bulldog fan. Things find a way to work themselves out and this spell Ga is going through may take some hiring, firing, losing and so forth but it will end. And hopefully when its over, they will be a strong SEC force. Over and out, Gort turned into CountryDawg. Ya’ll keep your heads up —-it aint over till the fat lady sings.

This team struggles with playing all out while tempered with enough judgement to avoid penalties and stupid mistakes. The old sickening aspect of players celebrating and dancing around just because they made a routine play is rearing its ugly head again. I do think there has been and still is a lack of discipline on the team. Individual celebration and showboating needs to be replaced by more of a workmanship approach. The type of kids we have been recruiting says alot about where we are TODAY! Yes, you need to get kids with athleticism and ball skills but again, there is a real need to get some sensibility and self imposed responsibility along with it. There are kids out there who meet those standards instead of these little self centered punks who think they are beyond approach. I’m about to quit following collegiate sports because of this very fact. I believe this is just not my opinion.

Anyone who thinks CMR should be fired is not a UGA fan. I can understand the frustration. But if he goes I for on WILL NEVER watch or attend a UGA game again. It would be a disgrace. Three subpar not bad years out of ten people. Remember when 8-5 and 9-4 were the good years? I do. UGA fans and AJC writers are a joke. I guess this is what happens when no one reads your liberal paper anymore, you have to write something weekly to draw attention.

truedawg,
If you believe Richt will ever get us a National Championship, then you are dreaming. He has taken us from being one of the upper echelon teams in the SEC to a middle of the pack program, and bordering on being in the bottom group with Vanderbilt and Miss St.
I know he’s a fine Christian man and all that, but even that hasn’t rubbed off on these kids with all the arrests and off the field problems.
8-4 and 9-5 doesn’t win SEC Championships or National Championships.

Then you can pass the hat in Sanford stadium for a collection for funds to bail half of them out next summer.

Gold star to the defense for “shutting down” Ryan Mallet. Kept him under 400 yards. Great hire on the dc, I guess when you settle for your 4th choice, you can pretty much predict the results. Here’s a hint, when the Cleveland Browns fire someone, he should probably stay fired. Maybe you can get someone off the Oakland raiders staff as your new oc next year.

This is the worst case scenario. The defense is struggling to be consistent on every play and the offense is breaking in a new QB, which rarely bodes well in this conference. What’s worse is half the fan base has turned into a bunch of thumb suckers. This team will learn and get better each week. With the question marks entering the season, this was certainly a possible result. While it’s no fun watching your team lose, it will make the end result that much sweeter. This group is a work in progress.

I like to think that this is a young team that hasn’t hit the track yet. Of course…Bobo needs to go. OUr offense has been predictable and lame since CMR stopped being his own OC. If he weren’t so hard-headed, he would see that. He should think back to the success at FSU where he was OC. When he left, FSU was not the same. He left the post at UGA to be a “CEO” and all hell has broken loose. UGA loses 6 of the past 8 SEC games? Wake up CMR or we need a hotline to bring Kirby home.
