Quality-of-life-wise, it would behoove this man to win next week. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Not to say I’m smart or anything, but the Georgia season has played out the way I figured: Win, loss, loss. (No, I wasn’t so all-seeing as to know A.J. Green wouldn’t have played a down.) I also had the Bulldogs winning eight of the next nine games and finishing 9-3, which I do believe will occur. That said …
The Mississippi State game has long seemed to me the pivot point of Georgia’s season. It’s a game UGA should win, but it’s on the road in a different time zone, and strange things can happen in the realm of the cowbell. And today I pose the musical question: What happens if Georgia doesn’t win in Starkville?
Nothing much, I submit, but I’m willing to concede I might be in the distinct minority. Opening the SEC season 0-3 hasn’t happened under Mark Richt — to be accurate, the Bulldogs have never before been 0-2 in league play under Richt — and would loose all manner of outcry from the masses. Greg McGarity, the new AD, wouldn’t join the chorus, but even a new AD couldn’t help but note the furor.
I say again: I think Georgia is going to be fine. This is a young team with a new quarterback and a new defense that faced two very difficult early games without its best player. I find no dishonor in either defeat. And I expect these Bulldogs will tame the maroon Bulldogs on Saturday in Starkville. But I’m pragmatist enough to grant that this could get ugly if UGA doesn’t.

Speaking in the heat of the moment but……this sucks and I’m getting very tired of making excuses for losing games like these. AJ or no AJ, we shouldn’t have lost that game. Or the one before that. We recruit better than both of these teams EVERY year. It’s coaching…plain and simple. I respect coach Richt as a person but he doesn’t seem to assemble the total package of game readiness and motivation for a complete game, let alone a complete season. If my memory serves me right, we lost two games early in 07 with the best team in the country. Nobody wanted to play UGA from mid season on and for good reason. But why does it take so long for this coaching staff to get it together? Meanwhile Alabama and Florida and LSU win championships with similar recruiting classes. The writing is clearly on the wall for all of us to read now. Coach Richt has taken us as far as he ever will. Time for McGarrity to start making a list of replacements for next season and beyond. There has to be a coach out there that can come in here and win big immediately with the talent on this roster year in and year out. No more mister nice guy. It doesn’t cut it in today’s SEC.

SEC cellar dweller vs cellar dweller! Sadly not too many people care about this game except the die hard fans who don’t want to be that last place team.

“Why does GT have “BEAT GEORGIA” on their practice sleds?”
Same reason Army has “Beat Navy” on theirs & vice-versa.
ROTLMAO. Are you serious? There is no “BEAT GT” on anything at UGA.

Bradley how can you say they will be fine- you sir are an apologist for Richt and the rest of the
worse staff ever to coach football in the USA. Worse than the Texas Southern staff that lost 30 something straight. Hyperventilate heart attack coming on- wait a minute it is a football game.

And BTW, Bobo is a freaking Bozo! I’m not nearly as upset with a first year DC as I am with the pathetic play calling in these games. Bozo needs to go join Martinez in Oklahoma or something. That was the most predictable and retarded set of plays I’ve ever seen. Petrino’s probably still laughing his ass off!

Dawg07, you have got to know better than to think a top 3 pick in the draft is going to come back for his senior year! UHHH, let me think, leave early and get paid millions or try to make up to the Georgia faithful by coming back and risking career ending injury. Not a tough decision. AJ’s a multi-millionaire by this time next year.

No, I’m serious. Everything at Army is “Beat Navy” from pre-game TV shots, and I know from first hand experience that it’s the case with Navy. I bought my wife a little stuffed Navy goat many years ago, and it had “Beat Army” on it’s jacket. I worked with a lot of Annapolis grads as well. The rivalry is a big deal.
When I was growing up a popular thing for Georgia fans was “Wreck Tech.” I guess things have changed in 50 years, at least on one side of the rivalry.

It might be the Chickens year—I hope they beat Florida and go to the Championship game. I honestly do not think Georgia has it this year and all of this Florida State offensive stuff is so weak in the SEC—–I mean where do they come up with these plays man—–no running backs that can run over people——-no sweeps, so, I think the Chickens have the best chance, other than Florida of course. Although, I am still a GA fan. Never Mind. Lets get on with it!!!!!! Get out there and run over somebody!!!!!!!!!!

well it’s never to early for that famous dawg adage “wait till next year”. Here is the 2011 schedule. Home games against louisville, south kakalak and coastal carolina 3-0. At ole miss than home for miss state 5-0. at tenn and at vandy 7-0. bye week than fla ?. 7-1 or 8-0 but most likely 7-1. home for new mexico state 8-1, home for auburn and kentucky 10-1 at GT 11-1. Great schedule. thats 7 home games and only 4 true road games (fla excluded). Get a few breaks in the Fla game and we could be looking at an undefeated Nat’l champ season. We will be loaded still on offense and defense. Grantahm will have another year to get his players. WE WILL have a new Off coordinator. AM will have a great second season. Look out college football, here come the DAWGS, but in 2011.

Offense not the problem. You should win with 24 points. The defense looks like Grambling or Southern out there. No upper body strength to man handle the other team, block and make tackles. Coach Grantham doesn’t have much to work with this year. Not enough mental strength either. Look at Iowa.. now they can block and tackle and make good decisions. I know we need speed but we can’t forfeit everything else for some boys to run around and ricchochet off tackles and misread coverages.

Wow, what a mixed bunch of opinions here. MR will not be fired because the last time UGA let a coach go they were still paying the coach before that. (Thus the reason UGA had to settle for an offensive coordinator with no proven record.) It will not happen again. He is under contract until 2013 I think. If enough stink is raised he may find another job, but probably not because no one will pay him what he makes at UGA. Write that down. If you look across the field you will know that UGA is out coached when playing Alabama, Florida and LSU. All those coaches have national titles in less time then MR has been at UGA. That’s a fact, not opinion. MR is a nice guy, but SEC football is not Sunday school. It’s ok to be mean and hit hard out there. UGA very seldom does and gets blown off the line often. Watch the highlights in slow motion. If you are a MR fan like I used to be, sit back and get ready for mediocre football as long as he is there. There will be no National Championships and many big game losses. Remember 2007? Also AJ green play his Sr year? LOL, he’s sitting out 4 games because he sold a jersey on E-Bay. I thinks he likes the $. He will finish the rest of the year and be gone. You would think MR with his high standards would sit him down the rest of the year. I would. AJ hurt UGA in 2 big games, hurt him back. Give the other receivers some playing time. Two years in a row UGA has started QB’s with little or no playing time. Great coaching strikes again. They do have a good one after he gets some time. One bright spot in the gloom.

The Dawgs are not a bad team but they have had some extremely bad plays which have resulted in the past two losses.
It’s clear that Bobo is not the answer at OC and they desperately need a new strength coach, but there is a lot to be excited about with this year’s team.
Murray is a stud and will do nothing but get better as he gains experience, provided he gets a little support from his line.
A.J. will be back for Colorado, but Durham has done a great job in his absence and will continue to do so this season.
The D is much more aggressive than last year and will only improve as the current players adapt and as Grantham gets recruits built for the 3-4.
I still believe in this team, painful as these last few games have been to watch. GO DAWGS!

Richt is Georgia football. It approaches heresy to suggest otherwise. Dooley wasn’t an overnight success – for years it was the “flea flicker” that defined his career. Richt will get his championship albeit not this year. If you think it is embarrassing to try to find coaches who will (or more likely won’t) work for Richt, just try finding one to replace him! Georgia still has the best talent – skill players in particular – of any team in the SEC. Not a chance we won’t win eventually!
