Which coaching pair is better: UGA’s Marks or Tech’s Pauls?

Four men, all named after saints. Two led their respective teams to conference championships in their second seasons. One played for a national championship in his fourth season. The other has been in place a little over a year and has stirred enthusiasm where none existed.
For Georgia, two Marks: Richt coaches football, Fox basketball.
For Georgia Tech, two Pauls: Johnson coaches football, Hewitt basketball.
For you, one question: Which pair would you rather have?
It’s not an easy call: Johnson just took his Jackets to the ACC championship, and Hewitt’s Jackets just played for the ACC title. Richt’s Bulldogs haven’t graced the SEC title game since 2005, and Fox’s Hounds — sorry, still can’t resist — finished last in the SEC East.
Were I picking the best pure coach of the four, I’d pick Johnson. Were I picking the coach who has known the most sustained success at the highest level, I’d pick Richt. But that’s not today’s exercise.
Think of this as an alternate-shot tournament in golf. If you take PJ of GT, you also have to take Hewitt. And the same on the Georgia side: If you choose Fox, you have to take Richt. And that said …
Loading ...I’d pick the two Marks over the two Pauls.
I’d pick the Marks because I believe Richt’s team is about to get really good again, and I’m not sure Hewitt’s ever will. And, as noted yesterday, I like what Fox is doing with Georgia. (He’s already 1-0 against the Jackets.)
But that’s just me, and I’ve been known to be wrong. And this isn’t as much about me as about you. So here’s your chance.
On Election Day, please cast your vote. And just this once, ticket-splitting is not allowed.

Since Herschel Walker won his national championship in 1980, 4 different SEC teams have won 8 NC’s. Perhaps if UGA began focusing on playing football within the SEC and not obsessing over Tech, they might win another one. Doubt it will happen, but at least you guys rule this state. Wow. Bear Bryant and Dooley were masters at keeping their mouths shut. So was Dodd. All three would their tongues off before saying anything negative about an opposing coach, player or fans. Bryant was the master, though Dooley took the concept and created his own style.
Spurrier is infamous for his mouth while at Florida and before games actually started with the Redskins. Since then he has learned a little humility … funny how that happens when your team loses to Vanderbilt and UConn.
I got to know these coaches when I was a sports writer and know from first hand experience how they handled communication issues. A lot of folks could learn a few things about working with people from them.
Coaching styles are another thing, and Bryant ran a tough camp. Dooley and Dodd had tough camps, but Bryant’s was more fierce.
There’s a difference between communication and coaching … just like management styles in the business world.

I noticed while I was on gtu’s sh*tty campus yesterday that the percentage of Indians and Asians was down to about 98%. The other 2% was a mix of Whites and Blacks. No wonder so many terrorists come through gtu.

Al four have faults. Fox was last in the sec. Right is first in the sec in boys in trouble. Hewitt has a contract that would cause even the best to take a nap at times. Like someones daddy said early,
Johnson did panic last year when he had the perfect time showcase his powerful option or even attempt shorter passes to move the ball closer…
but I’d still take the Pauls.

Correct me if I am wrong..which I am not because I am 67 years old…but Dodd always spoke out when he felt something went wrong. That was one of the reasons the rest of the SEC would not let us back in…they did not like Dodd after our coach publicly spoke out against the absence of a scholarship limit and the dirty hit on one of our players from one of Bryant’s players. Bryant a was a christian man but he absolutely had a loud mouth…he was just like PJ…a hard nosed no BS football coach…your dead wrong on that Old Dawg. Dooley was also a loud mouth who complained when he felt his team was wronged…I watched him coach for decades and there were numerous examples of him speaking out. I think you got this whole issue confused…PJ is not a super religious person…and that’s not a bad thing because this is a free country. PJ is an old school football coach…Old Dawg…are you really that old because anyone who actually saw those three coaches roam the sidelines would know that they were extremely outspoken and hard nosed coaches…just like Johnson. Times have changed a little sure…but they still all share the same attitude. Its a successful strategy and that’s the main reason many older Tech Grads are 100 percent behind him. I like the business analogy…but still my point remains valid. Running a business in this manner can be successful too…its what I did with my company…I didn’t hide my real feelings or BS to clients and many of them liked that approach. You get what you see…not what I want you to see.
