Live from the Braves: Rain, no Chipper and a losing streak

And it's a beautiful day for baseball -- somewhere else. (Photo by M. Bradley)

And it's a beautiful day for baseball -- somewhere else. (Gloomy photo by M. Bradley)

Let’s start with the good news. There isn’t any.

Less good: Chipper Jones was in today’s starting lineup but isn’t now. He was a late scratch due to his tender hamstring.

Even less good: The Braves have lost consecutive home games for the first time since April 22nd, which was Night 1 of the NFL draft.

Still less good: It’s raining and there’s thunder overhead. The tarp has been pulled in place a half-hour before our scheduled first pitch, which means that pitch will surely be hurled a bit later.

Other than that, everything’s rosy.

To add to the this cheer, I’ll be here all game. And — fair warning — I’m already a bit grumpy. But if you dare to join, I’ll be happy, albeit in my rainy-day-grump way.

First, Patrick. And if I was in a better mood, I’d say, “Kudos.”

Radar doesn’t look terrible, should blow over soon. Just a few small cells here and there

I would have been first, but my computer had a rain delay.

It’s sad when the LEAST bad thing is Chipper’s absence from the lineup. True, though.

I am not worried about the losing streak MB. The will regroup today and we’ll be fine. The Braves will NOT lose a series to the Brewers. They are a terrible team who’s manager likes to get players from opposing teams suspended for playing a baseball.

Any new news on the trade front for a big bat in outfield? Braun by any chance?

Mark I agree. I hate rain delays. It always takes forever after turned over to umps.(least45mins) Dad always said cheer up when it rains because it always washes everything. Have you heard any trade rumors Like Hart, Cody Ross and Willingham ?
Thanks man for working on a wet Sunday.

They aren’t, Nick. It’s still raining. Though the sky has lightened.

Hah, thanks Mark

Boy, you really take these Braves losses hard?…or Chipper being scratched from the lineup at the very least.

I’ve heard Cody Ross. Today’s rumor is Corey Hart of Milwaukee.

Mark Bradley

The Braves could use another hitter, KrishATL, but I don’t think it’s mandatory.

The braves are a different style team. They dont neccesarily NEED a power bat. They have found ways to score in bunches without one. See the comeback against the Reds. With that said. It would be nice to have someone like Ryan Howard is for the Phillies. They all may be struggling but Howard wins games for them on his own. That would be nice for the Braves

Mark Bradley

Speaking of Cody Ross: He’s at bat in Turner Field as we speak. The message board is aring the Marlins-Nationals game.

Mark I think we can all agree Hart would be a thousand times better than Ross. Ross is good. but Hart is doing great this year

I wouldnt mind a little extra pep in our step, I just hope we dont trade away half of our farm system like we did for Teixera to do it.

Do u think theyd take Minor or one of our minor league pitchers and melky or someone for Hart? They could use some pitching

He’s been around for over a year now and his name has only 6 letters. We should know by now that there’s no “I” in Medlen.

KrishATL

I agreed Nobody; and i guess it would be nice to see JHey and Chipper in the lineup for a consistent basis before we go out there and make a trade for a bat. But we’re a little lucky right now after losing these two games…that the Mets and Phillies are scuffling a little more than we are right now.

Mark Bradley

To get a bat, the Braves will have to part with a minor-league pitcher. Or Kris Medlen.

In all fairness the braves almost have TOO many pitchers. Id say we could stand to lose one of our big up and comers

Meanwhile...rain delay

July 18th, 2010
1:41 pm

Mark, you aren’t going to post some Andy Griffith reruns like TBS used to do to get us through the rain delay? May I suggest the classic “Citizen’s arrest! Citizen’s arrest!” episode, featuring Jim Nabors as Gomer Pyle?

Coach used to be grumpy like that. Chipper best sit out today with the slippery turf and that bad toe that swells in wet weather. Wearing two pairs of wet socks would slow him down on the bases. Not a good day to play Chipper.

GM said Minor was not on market. But things always change. Right?

Coach (2011 or Bust)

July 18th, 2010

OzzyBraves, The Brewers have been plunked by the Braves two days in a row, if anything Cox deserves to get thrown out and fined for not keeping his team in line. As for potentially losing three out of four…..it would be embarrassing to say the least.

The silver lining is that at least the starting pitchers didn’t get warmed up, the rain will stop and this game will be played because it’s the last time these two teams meet in 2010.

Nick

We can not part with Medlen. He has been the glue for us all year long. Plus the guy has so much upside its not even funny…

I don’t know the answer to the Da’Rick Rogers question, Jaydawg. I assume (the other) Coach Dooley is gathering information.
