I must be over-estimating the impact of the loss of Charlie Strong for UF. Or is Teryl Austin the best kept secret in college D? From what I can tell, he has been a DB coach his entire career. Did I miss something? Or is the belief that, UF signed so many top athletes, that Austin is all set?

“Florida will go 11-1 because of a remarkably kind schedule”. …I don’t see anything resembling “remarkably kind” about playing USF, Bama, LSU, and FSU. And thats not even counting Georgia, Tenn at Neyland and South Carolina. 10-2 would be an achievement and then it’s probably another dose of the defending national champs in the SECCG. How in the world do you get “remarkably kind” out of that????????

I think it’s unlikely that the shovel pass call by Mack Brown (dumb as it was) cost Texas the national championship game. With a 24-6 halftime lead, Saban went very conservative on offense to milk the clock in the second half just as he did against Georgia in 2008 with the 31-0 halftime lead. Had the score been 17-6 at the half I think it’s virtually certain that Alabama’s play calling would have been less conservative in the second half.

I think Tech wins nine. They will beat Climpson (again) and should beat VT (again). The game with UGA is a tossup.

I think UGA probably wins nine too. But that is more a function of the manageable (read: weak) schedule. I also don’t understand the belief that Grantham represents an upgrade. He may but his only stint as a coordinator was an abject failure and, other than that, we have no proof that he’ll be successful.

Also Mark, are you really saying that Florida’s schedule this year is softer than Georgia’s? Other than common opponents, Florida plays Alabama and LSU from the SEC West while Georgia plays Arkansas and Auburn. Edge for toughness to Florida. Florida plays Florida State while Georgia plays Georgia Tech. With Bowden gone and Georgia Tech losing 4 key players to the NFL I’d call that a toss up, but give a slight toughness edge to Georgia if you like. In the other out of conference games, Florida plays South Florida, Miami of Ohio and Appalachian State. Georgia plays UL Lafayette, Colorado and Idaho State. South Florida is the toughest of those teams so I’d give Florida a slight edge there.

So how does Florida’s schedule warrant a comment about softness but Georgia’s doesn’t?

UNC is absolutely getting too much hype. Their QB play has been awful. You can’t count on beating opponents 10-7 all year. I see GT finishing 9-3 right behind VT for the coastal title. VT will be hard to stop with those RB’s. UGA has winnable games on their schedule, but until Murray proves something on the field, I gotta go with 8-4 for the pups.

I have a hard time imagining the 2011 Dawgs as better than the chance in 2010. The offense returns 10 starters and has AJ for only this season. The OL will graduate 3 players after this season also. This is the year were Murray MUST step in a be more than a game manager and make some plays w/ the weapons that surround him.

The “key” this season lies on how disciplined the defense can be in reacting to the 3-4. Talent wise and thletic wise they have the players to do this and do it well, but historically they have been unable to stay focused for 60 minutes on that side of the ball.

I can see a 10-2 season or it can be another 8-4 season. Injury’s in the Summer may have alot to do with how the entire league shakes out so you never know.

1- Georgia will finish AHEAD of South Carolina
2- Georgia will finish just ahead or just behind Arkansas
3- Georgia’s schedule is easier:
Athlon: Only play 3 top 25 teams:
Fla (#6), Ark (#17), Aub (#22)
Phil Steele: Only play 4 top 25 teams
SC, Ark, Aub, Fla
4- Florida’s schedule is harder:
Athlon: Bama, FSU, UGA, LSU

Athlon says UGA will win it all if QB plays good.

Richt is 7-2 against Spurrier. You have to like Georgia, and Richt’s road record is incredible. Georgia wins in SOuth Carolina.

Richt is 5-0 against Arkansas. This will be the hardest early game, the QB/WR’s will test the inexperienced secondary. But, Arkansas can’t play defense, so, like last 5 games, Georgia wins.

Richt is 2-7 against Florida. Georgia will lose this one.

Richt is 4-0 against Auburn. Georgia will win this one.

Florida will lose to Bama & either South Carolina/LSU/FSU

Georgia will then win the SEC East, where Richt will face Bama, who he is 3-1 against, and win that one.

Georgia will then play for the National Championship.

people are way overselling the rest of the ACC this year. VA tech could be good. FSU’s offense should be better but that OL how good are they? UNC’s offense is an embarassment to offense but their defense is insanely good. Miami could be fantastic or they could be average. It really depends on which Jacori Harris shows up.

I think Tech is being undersold a bit. 9 is probably a good number for Georgia but I think they win 10.

Really if UGA had a QB that was SEC seasoned I think you have a team that offensively is Preseason Top 10 material. Murray must have a stat line of at least 2-1 in the TD/INT department(20/10 would seem likely).

Defensively, with the speed and size the right type of coaching can again put them back in the Top 10 in creating turnovers. It again boils down to discipline in down and distance situations. Grantham must teach an system of passive aggression eliminating offsides and pass interferance penalty’s that plagued this team the past 3 seasons.

If those things can break right UGA can have a magical season with Alabama and LSU coming off the schedule.

When the dust clears on Nov. 27, GT will have an equal or, more than likely, a better record than the mutts. Then I want to hear all the mutt-a-philes explain what happened since this is supposed to be a easy schedule this season. I tend to think it will be a whole lot harder everyone thinks. SC, Ark, are being underrated, and Kentucky will be very hard to beat because it is at Commonwealth the week before the annual Jax beatdown, and the mutts will be looking ahead and forward to their annual whipping, and the Wildcats will jump on them. Oh yeah, GT reloads, not rebuilds, this season.

With the 155 starts, the O-Line for UGA is the nation’s best. With Ealey, Smith & King in the backfield, no one can stop them.

By the Florida game, the QB position should be stabilized and be able to pass enough to beat Florida. Richt will stop turning the ball over at Florida, he wil win, as Georgia has almost gained as many yards as Florida every game. All but 2 of the 7 losses were close. The inexperience of Brantley and the poor running game will be exposed against Grantham’s genius. Florida won’t be able to run against Garner’s D-Line & Belin’s ILB’s, Florida won’t be able to pass with Grantham’s OLB’s, and Lakatos’ DB’s and Safeties.

UNC will surprise in 2010.

They will beat an LSU team that is fading FAST. 2009 proved they have LOTS of problems. Les Miles will be out at end of season.

At end of 2008, Spurrier vocally threatened (Yes threatened) the USC administration with his resignation if they didnt not dramatically LOWER their admission standards. Its now or never for Spurrier. Look for a 2nd place SEC-East finish.

In 2009, MB called Wake a “trap” game, and it almost was.
If GT has a “trap” game in 2010, it’ll be Clemson.

With Al Groh as DC, GT is really the “two-headed” monster
of the ACC. Hard to over-estimate the value of having
2 very experiencd HCs…on 1 sideline.

Agree with MB, GT-GA game will come down to the final minute.
However, I think GT wins with a late FG.

So, IMHO……

GT 11-1 with an early season loss to UNC, and beats FSU in ACC-CG.

GT beats Penn State in the Orange bowl.

Curiously, in a supposed anti-incumbent year, most of the departing are not retiring but seeking higher office. We may recycle more than we replace. The bad news is that a frustrating 114 seats still have but one contestant. Two of them aren’t even incumbents, meaning they will affect state policy without being vetted by voters. And I have to think that we’d be better off if many had run instead for the Legislature — and cut down on the number running unopposed. Georgia’s problems are numerous. They aren’t going away. There’s too much stale thinking at the Capitol, on both sides of the aisle. New voices would be welcome.

MB, I don’t see the Dawgs losing in consecutive weeks to SC & Ark. One of the games they will win but they may lose to Auburn especially since they do not have a bye week till after that game. Also, I think they will beat Florida to win the East and lose to Bama in the SECCG. Win over Tech sounds right. Even though I’m a Dawgs fan I do disagree that Florida has a “remarkably kind schedule”. They have some tough games this season. Not sure what Tech does, other than lose to UGA, but CPJ is a good coach and they now have a D coordinator. Can’t wait till kickoff this season! – 91 days to go and counting…AJ Green for Heisman!

You know I love the Dawgs, but this is a re-building year, and we didn’t go 11-1 last year, plus some teams like SC and ARK are stepping up, I’m with you on 9-3 and will hope for better, Mallet is for real and I don’t think our pass rush is all that scary, we’ve beem giving up ALOT of points the last couple of years and if one thing Petrino knows how to do, its put up points! So I’ll enjoy another good year and hope for better!

I love you and the Gamecocks! SC will shine this year as it is all or nothing. The fans and Spurrier are tired of it, and those of us faithful will celebrate our patience finally. The UGA game will be close, but we will win. 2nd in the East is my prediction. It will be interesting to see how Auburn does this year. Not much talk on the board about them. Arky too. Doesn’t Tech play roadies @ UNC, Va Tech, and Clemson? I have a hard time believing they will do better than 1-2 in those three. Miami at Bobby Dodd will be a challenge. I think the Wolfpack also could be a dangerous opponent. Wilson is a big-time threat for them at QB.I think Tech loses three in the conference, plus Athens. Mark is on the mark.

I agree with most of your predictions. I think the Dawgs will lose in Columbia. Murray will be good, but starting your first SEC game in a hostile environment won’t be easy. The Gamecocks will have another great defense and their offense has plenty of playmakers. I think they will rebound against Arkansas.

I would like to nominate Chris as the MOST DELUSIONAL af all the mutt-a-holics. Either that, or I want to get some of what he is smoking. I sometimes might get a little far fetched, but Chris, my man, you are giving mutt fans a new hero for delusions.
My girlfriend is a hardcore UGA fan, and she is telling me that 8 wins would be a really good season. In her honest opinion she sees 7-5 as their record. I feel their record will be worse than the Jackets, as CPJ is reloading this season with the best group of running backs in the state including one of the top rated QB’s in the nation (per most every national publication a top 10 choice), and a defense that will be much better than anticipated. But… that is why they play the games, isn’t it. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

This Tech fan is not worried at all. Two of the players we lost were on defense, and our defense CANNOT be worse than last year. So until someone stops our offense (and the Doggies haven’t come close), I expect to win ever game barring excessive turnovers. At least until someone besides #9 is taking snaps.

Jammer, unless I have missed something, the mutts have NO QB depth. They have 2 that have NEVER WALKED ON THE FIELD DURING A REAL COLLEGE GAME, and another that has that the coaches do not have any confidence in….. and new defensive staff???? What have they shown so far?? If you said nothing, then you are absolutely correct.
In these posts, I have seen the following in many…. IF THIS HAPPENS, OR IF THAT HAPPENS the mutts will be this great team capable of winning championships. You know back in 2007, IF the mutts had beaten a mediocre SC or IF they had beaten Tennessee, they would have had a chance to play LSU and IF they could have won that, they might have had their chance to play for the NC. In actuality, this season in filled with question marks and alot of inexperienced players and coachs in key positions. Quit putting the cart before the horse and GET A GRIP!!!

The key to the season will be how well they play against SC and Arkansas. If they come out flat the first few weeks and not playing hard and/or executing, (as they often do early), it could be a long season. But on the other hand the sooner they begin playing hard and executing together as a unit, the quicker their confidence will grow and increase their chances of winning 9+ games. I don’t think they will lose to both SC and Arkansas and they very well could win both as long as they establish the run before getting pass happy. But man what I’d give to see some rock solid, GATA, push ‘em back, Junkyard Dawg defense. I hear Russ likes BBQ . . . and they’re serving chicken in week two and pork in week three. Let the Big Dawg eat!

It’s kind of sad to see all the Dawg fans getting so excited this year (just like the year before, the year before that, etc.). How long is it going to take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t
been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.

Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year. Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 10-2 or even 11-1 occasionally, but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 15 final ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.

It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans, like FSU and Ole Miss fans, need to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.

Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Bulldog Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many
blue chip high school plays go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in Athens.

Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.

The UNC game and VT game will be tough but who knows. Tech will not miss a beat on offense mark and if AL GROH can do what people think he can( the man coached a super bowl defense)…Tech may go 11-1! If tech beats UNC (by the way, has a terrible offense) then they will be 7-0 going to clemson and make that 8-0 after clemson! Miami and VT are the 2 toughest games at the end and i can see a loss between the 2 but not both. CPJ beats CMR again in athens by 10.

To be honest, I would be some what satisfied with a 9-3 record considering we are breaking in a brand new QB in the SEC, a brand new defensive scheme and 3 new defensive coaches. The players still have a lot to learn and if we can find a way to learn it before the season starts then that would be awesome. I don’t think Grantham is going to fully unleash the defense until the South Carolina game. We can beat UL-Lafayette by simply running the football and just barely opening up our defensive packages. It’ll be sort of like G-Day execpt a “little” more intensified.

The only way we lose to South Carolina is if our O-Line can’t open holes and the RBs forget how to run the football. That’s going to be the key in Columbia. Running the football and let the O-Line completely take over. Sort of the gameplan against Tech last season. Run the damn ball and we will win! Simple as that. Expect Grantham to unleash Justin Houston and CO. on Garcia.

Arkansas, that will be a tough one. Mallett is considered the top QB in the SEC and for good reason. The guy has phenomonal size and he can fit the ball into the tightest windows. It will be a big test. But the only way to keep him off the field is to run the football. Smack Arkansas’ defensive line around and set the tempo from the start. Our defense will need to be ready because Mallett will be slingin’ passes left and right and we better be prepared to stop it.

Hopefully we beat both of these teams, but if I had to choose between which one will be the toughest and we’re most likely to lose to, it’s obviously South Carolina. In Columbia, our QB’s first real SEC competition, our defense finally being let loose completely, etc. If we can get by them, I think Arkansas should be handled fairly easy.

Why is it that EVERY year someone talks about how dangerous South Carolina is? They NEVER live up to the hype and a victory over them rarely boosts strength of schedule. It sounds a lot like the hype for UNC. Both teams are always a chic pick as a darkhorse and never come through. Uga and GT win these games.

And Clemson? Are you kidding? They played Tech close last year because our defense was horrible and they had all-world CJ Spiller. Their QB will sign big bucks for baseball and be gone. They won’t be anywhere near what they were last year. If we can split with VT and Miami we will be back in the ACC title game and beat FSU for the third time in a row to return to the Orange Bowl.

What happens if Clemson losses there QB to MLB? Do you not remember what Uconns secondary did to South Carolina? I can’t see Tech or UGA lossing these 2 games.

I watched all of the spring games and everybody raved about Florida and Bama’s offense. The problem I saw was that the defense for both of them was not nearly as good as last year and still needs to fill those holes.

I think a lot of people will be surprised by UGA’s secondary. I have seen Aaron Murray play a couple of times and the things I did notice about him is that he can take care of the ball and that he deals with preasure well. Best case UGA could go 12-0 with the schedule they have and worst case would be 9-3.

Tech best case would be 10-2 and worse case would be would be 7-5. How come I don’t here anybody asking if tech will be able to stop anyone?

I wonder about GT offensive line. If the play well the sky is the limit. An extra year to learn CPJ’s offensive alone will be a big plus. If the defense plays better, they sucked last year, GT could flat out dominate time of possession like no other team in history.

You still did not answer my question. It was still better to toss oranges even if it led to a loss than beat a team that did not deserve a bowl game. The mutts have been drawing the easiest bowl opponents lately. A&M last year. And when they went to the Sugar Bowl by default (SEC champ LSU playing in NC game), they drew Hawaii, the only undeserving BCS team. My high school team could have knocked off Hawaii.

This may have already been answered. If so, ignore this post. Someone on a previous page asked about S Carolina’s WRs. I know they’ve got a couple of really good ones in sophomores Alshon Jeffery 763 yds, 6 td, 16.6 average per catch and Tori Gurley 440 yds, 2 td, 14.2 average per catch.

Throw TE Weslye Saunders (353 yds, 3 td, 11 ypc) into the mix and Garcia has a very nice trio of playmakers to throw to.

My question about SCAR is how will they fare on the defensive side of the ball? The Gamecocks were 2nd in the SEC vs the pass, but UGA still torched ‘em for 41 points. Although SCAR loses Eric Norwood to graduation and NFL, I don’t expect to see them take a step back. If #5 isn’t “the dumbest QB” Spurrier’s ever coached, the Dawgs could be in trouble when they travel to Columbia. Hope I’m wrong.

Georgia better score some points in Columbia, because the Bulldog Defense will have its hands full, trying to cover Alshon Jeffrey, Tori Gurley, and Weslye Saunders. This trio combined for over 1600 yds receiving and 12 tds. With a more experienced Steven Garcia throwing the ball, S Carolina’s offense (4th in SEC in passing ypg) could be even better. But, they’ve gotta crank up a more effective rushing attack (last in SEC with 121.2 ypg), if the Gamecocks are gonna contend in the East. Is Marcus Lattimore the real deal? If so, the Dawgs better hunker down in Columbia for one tough fight. It’s Georgia vs South Carolina. Should we expect any less?

It doesn’t matter if the game is in columbia Mark Richt has never lost there and he won’t this year and if you think Arkansas will beat us then stop drinking the ryan mallet kool-aid it’s making you delusional they have no defense at all and the game is in Athens. I know UGA went 12-1, but Miami and OSU went undefeated.
2007 lost 2 games….one to a mediocre team and the other one in a blowout.
As for Addazio, we’ll see. UF’s point drop-off last year was due in large part to not having much at the WR spot other than Cooper. Still managed to hang a number on UGA. That seems to be the norm lately.
By the way, UF owns the head to head record since WWII. I don’t really care what happened back in the horse and buggy days. That’s all ancient history.

Mark….playing Bama at Bama is not a soft schedule….Mark. Going to Knoxville is never soft…ask Georgia fans. Plus, the Gators play South Florida and they are a very good team. If Florida wins the SEC it will because they have a very good team…and not because they have a soft schedule. Florida and Bama are the two best teams in the SEC and it will be that way for a while with the types of recruits going to those two schools…and the type of coaches those two schools have. I never said Meyer had “no say” in the scheduling.
But it’s not real hard to figure out why they would schedule the bye week before UGA. If they beat UGA then that affords UF the luxury of being able to lose one SEC game and still get to Atlanta regardless if UGA wins all their other games or not. They would own the head to head tiebreaker. UT is down, UK has never made it and neither has Vandy or USC. The question shouldn’t be why they do schedule then, but why wouldn’t they schedule then.

Good read as always. Who doesn’t love college football!? I’m a Dooley supporter and want him to get three years to show progress in the program. Write off this year, hope for a winning record the next, 8-9 wins the following. Not what I want but what I’m expecting. Dawgs, as always, are overrated, but 8-9 wins sounds right to me. South Carolina is even more overated – when has Spurrier demonstrated anything there?

I keep reading some of the Tech syndicate saying that UGA would not upset GT. One, how does one win , two years ago, put Tech in the drivers seat in the “Rivalry”? Second, Morgan is gone, Butterfingers Bay Bay is gone. Dwyer is gone and you think you will still compete. Third, UGA beating GT is like breathing and the seasons changing, it does and will happen consistently. Dawgs win 10 . THWGT. Go Dawgs. GATA.

I am out of here, but let me end by thanking Big L. He thinks the mutts will beat Tech, but at least he does not try to deny how it will probably come down… that is IF the mutts actually knock off the Jackets this season, it will indeed be an UPSET.
1 possibly 2 losses going into the Jax beatdown, and at least one more before GT comes calling. Like it or not, I do believe that the mutts will be the underdogs on Nov. 27. The mutts will be playing for the Music City Bowl, and GT will be possibly be playing the following week for another BCS game; at worst Chic-fil-et. Have a good weekend mutt-a-holics. Looking to read more delusional posts next week. I always need a good laugh, and you guys usually provide me with alot. Thanks for your support.

My biggest problem w/ your prediction is predicting Florida to win it all. Come on, even as a Tech fan, I agree that we’ll have a down yr, it’s gonna be tough to replace 4 key players. The question is: how do you expect Florida to lose several like Tech did (Tebow & Spikes), yet get better. It’s not possible, I think both Florida & Texas have down yrs. Granted they’re both loaded, but U can’t lose that many pieces and get better.

Tech will be stronger this year. Loss of Dwyer & Be Be & Morgan -bad. Burnett, not much. Thomas helped the team for shure. But the one image I will never forget is dropping that 4th down pass right in the chest. But you doggies won fair & square. We don’t look for excuses at Tech.

Upstart Ga State will win 4 games this season and 3 plays against Alabama. Star Jackson’s presence is a huge boost for the fledgling program in downtown. This will be a fun, but patience necessitating process for Panthers fans. GSU will win 4 games in year one, 4 games in year 2, 7 in year 3, and at that point, they will be a consistent 7-8 win team in D 2. It will take between 5 to 7 years for GSU to reach the level of success that Villanova, Appalachian St, Richmond, and Montana are currently at. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

Mark, no way the Jackets don’t win 10 games this year and play in the BCS. They are just reloading, and CPJ is THE BEST COACH IN NCAAs. We will run the ACC and maybe lose one game, and we will destroy UGA, 44 to 24 in an offensive shoot out. Mark it down and take it to the bank. The yellow and black will be heading to ANOTHER New Year’s Day bowl and be wearing a crown by January. No way we lose to Georgia. Coming of a disappoint season, and with a rookie QB, it will be tough going 9-3 for Georgia. However, I think it very logical to think they will. Tech has more talent overall, but they lost some good players to the NFL. I also go with the 9-3 record, beating North Carolina again.

Tech will be better…No doubt..It doesn’t matter if they lost four guys to the NFL. The defense was terrible!! They can only get better and they will. They may have a bad defense but it will still be better as a whole without derrick morgan. The offense is gonna be better if the offensive line performs at least as well as last year. Anthony Allen is better than Dwyer. Stephen Hill will not be as good as thomas but will still be a deep threat and the A-backs will get more involved with short passes.

TECH will win the ACC and win the Orange bowl. But they will lose two games..

PS UNC gets wayyy too much credit…Their offense is garbage…and their NFL talented defense is good but not great

I have to say 2011 for the Bulldogs is now. They have a true test early in the season when they play the Gamecocks but they will squeeze that one out barely. The Dawgs have a really strong shot of being 8-0 going into the Florida game and I say the Dawgs win by 3 on that one. The other game that will be close is the Auburn game. All I am saying is that the Dawgs have a strong shot of running the table this year. They will go at least 11-1.

I think not just Grantham but Lakatos is/are gonna make a huge difference, but the Quarterback situation will be secure. A couple things. Not sure why AJC Bloggers feel the need to put UGA and GT in the same posting just to start a flame war BUT…

A) Georgia will be good, but not great. I like the prediction of 3 or 4 losses, although I do believe one will be against tech. They have a good core of Offensive Linemen back to protect the young Murray. But people are going to forget he’s a (albeit redshirt) freshman and expect him to be excellent after 2 games. It just doesn’t happen like that.

B)Tech will get BETTER on offense, despite losing their B-Back and top WR. Anthony Allen is better suited as a B-Back, although he was used as an A-Back last year. Critics will say “if that’s the case why oh why was Dwyer in at all”… Here is my take : PJ had Dwyer and Allen, and while Allen showed more flashes of brilliance IMO, Dwyer got the nod at B-Back because he didn’t have the flexibility Allen did at playing both positions. It will be a push on defense. Even though you lost Burnett and Morgan, you get Cooper Taylor (I think is his name) and switch to a (hopefully) more stout 3-4. So, + on offense. = on defense. What am I missing mark.

MB : Pure genius. UGA wins 9. Smart move staying away from predicting double digit regular season W’s with the opportunity for a 10 W season just a bowl game away. Likewise not predicting 8 W’s. No chance there for a 10 W season and the UGA faithful would go fox-rabid on you… Giving Tennessee 6 W’s in 2010 is up 2 from 2009 isn’t it..? Seems I recall a 4-8 prediction last year. Oh well. 16-2 aganst those 3 teams.

Only question on schedule is Florida, he’s 2-7 there. Gets a win every 4 or 5 years, probably looking at 2011 or 2012 before Richt wins in Florida again.

Florida will lose to #1 ranked Alabama, so if they lose 1 more SEC game to LSU, South Carolina, or if Georgia beats them, then Georgia gets in, even with a loss to Florida.

I understand 1 loss against Florida on Georgia’s schedule. That’s automatic–they’re out of Georgia’s league. But where else does Georgia lose?

I guess people are thinking 1-2 more losses will come from Arkansas or Auburn or South Carolina or Georgia Tech. I don’t think so. He’s 24-3 against these 4 teams, I don’t see any of them being a complete team enough to beat Georgia. South Carolina has no offensive balance–no running game, Arkansas/Auburn/Ga Tech can’t play defense.

Arkansas/Auburn/South Carolina are still trying to win the SEC passing the ball. You won’t do that. Georgia has been doing the same thing until the last few games last year they started running the ball.

Florida has an interesting schedule. They play 5 top 25 teams:
Alabama, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, and FSU.

Meyer has beat Georgia, South Carolina & FSU easily. But he has struggled against LSU (3-2 RECORD) and Alabama (2-3 RECORD). 5-5 against those 2 teams. Meyer is also 0-2 against Auburn–should he face Auburn in the SEC Championship–but Aubrun not on schedule. He struggles against SEC West teams more than SEC East teams. Meyer is 5-7 against those 3 teams.

If you look at Meyer’s October schedule is spells trouble:
Alabama–Meyer has a losing record and was overmatched last season
LSU- Meyer is 3-2 and has a hard time beating these guys
Miss St.–It was 16-13 after 3 Qrtrs, Mullen knows Meyer well–was OC at Florida
Georgia- Meyer has destroyed Georgia, but doesn’t match up well against the 3-4 defense wut his spread

Florida will lose to at least Alabama & LSU, which means Georgia gets into the SEC Champ, even if Georgia loses to Florida. Florida will also lose to highly ranked Georgia, South Carolina or FSU.

10-3 for Florida in a rebuilding year—losses to Alabama, LSU, Georgia South Carolina or FSU.

Florida down this year. Haden–gone. Dunlap–gone. Spikes–gone. Defense really has some issues.

Then you have to replace on the offensive side of the ball #1 rusher Tebow, and top 2 receivers Cooper and Hernanzdez. That’s a lot of offense gone.

Additional, Florida lost 4 key staff memebers, inlcuding DC Charlie Strong.

9-4 likely, 10-3 would be a great year.

This is just more of the same from the Bulldog Nation Newspaper, although Athens is not Atlanta. GT does not have a home-town newspaper. GT – the defending ACC Champion, BCS Orange Bowl selection with a great coach (THE COACH) is his 2nd year, and we’re picked by MB to loose 4 games. This is the easiest schedule in years, albeit boring, and GT will win at least 10 games in the regular season. You are wrong about Tennessee as well. Although GT suffered for years under the thumb of the elderly Dooley and it’s hard to say this – Tennessee hired a great coach and they have a great future – starting now. Coach Dooley of Tennessee is impressive, and I think he’s got a shot as Coach of the Year – SEC, maybe National. You got it all wrong Mr. Bradley.

Saban didnt try to get your DC…..he DID have him. Grantham was a coordinator under Saban at Michigan State. Saban has Kirby Smart, who like Tech and Ga runs the 3-4…and who turned the dawgs down when Richt was searching.

I think it is easier to predict a conventional football team like Georgia than one like Tech. Georgia did have a stroke of genius last year and ran the football against Tech eating up the clock. If they had run it most of the year they would have lived up to their potential, but you don’t recruit thoroughbreds to work like workhorses. That is why Tech beats Georgia and they hired a defensive coach to slow it up the middle which both Georgia and Iowa has success at.

South Carolina will beat Georgia which tickles me only that they have been improving in Columbia every year and the press in their hatred of Spurrier treat the place like it is Vanderbilt or Duke. They are the Mississippi of the SEC next year which won’t be very popular.

The Big Ten is playing much better football. The problem with Ohio State is they keep trying to copy the SEC in scheme. The strength of the Big Ten is and always has been the size of their players. Woody Haynes coached the team with what he had and smash mouth football is back in the Big Ten. When more schools play that way CPJ at Tech is in trouble, but as long as they play Dixie dew Tech will beat them. Time of possession and time the defense in on the field is always in Tech’s favor.

FSU will be heading back to glory. Bobby overstayed his time, it will be like Tommy Glavine and the Braves. When they see how much better FSU is this year it will make all those second guessers of how FSU handled Bobby like our boy Tony B. look clueless and the ACC will have that entry that starts eating into SEC recruiting again.

Alabama’s future two-year football series with Georgia Tech has been postponed by agreement of the two schools, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting tonight.(4/30/10)

The original deal called for the schools to meet on Sept. 14, 2013 and Sept. 13, 2014. Make-up dates have not been announced.

Alabama has played Georgia Tech 52 times in school history, winning 28, but the schools have not played since 1984.

If you look at Steele’s All-SEC, you can see why Georgia fans shoiuld be excited, and why Florida fans should be freaking out.

Florida won’t be able to defend against the run or get pressure with a pass rush. Nobody great defensive line–where are their defensive ends? No great linebackers. Georgia’s rushing attack is the the perfect match-up problem for Florida. Yeah Baby, yeah!

Gee JB … what happen in 2009 when GT returned a better offensive team than the 2008 team? Yeah, the 2008 team that rushed for 409 yards vs. GA (who had two weeks to prepare). With your logic, GT (with an extra week to prepare) should have rushed for about 600 yards in 2009. I don’t remember that happeing ….

Tune in November, and I’ll give you the reason why I believe GT beats GA in 2010.

Statistically…..

…the Dawgs could have gone 10-3 last season without turnovers and penalties (see LSU and Kentucky). More disciplined play alone should be worth a couple of wins. An easier schedule is worth at least one more. The problem with Georgia’s defense the past few years has been the brain trust calling the shots (i.e. against Tennessee last season–how many bootlegs was that?). It has NOT been the talent.

The Dawgs lost a lot on the DL, but the switch to the new defensive scheme negates that. They are LOADED at linebacker (watch Justin Houston and Cornelius Washington this season–one of them will be an All-American and first round draft pick), and the secondary will be far better coached with Lakatos at the helm. The defense will be top 15 material. The offense will be a 65% run-based offense with an outstanding, deep, experienced line and great fullbacks, halfbacks and wide receivers. Aaron Murray, even as a redshirt freshman, will be an upgrade from Joe Cox. This all adds up to a surprising season for the Dawgs. 10-2 is most likely; 11-1 is possible. Most likely losses are to Florida (of course) and Auburn (they’re due), with South Carolina and Arky being the other dark horse candidates; also got to watch for a letdown on the road against the Canis Minor Bulldogs of Mississippi State. But the Dawgs won’t lose to all of these teams–pick two. I think South Carolina, with its green offensive line, will be tortured by Grantham’s pass rush. That’s just a hunch.

The Jackets lost a ton of talent–including their best receiver, their best running back, and the two best defenders from a mediocre defense. They will still be better than any of the Chan Gailey teams because of Paul Johnson, who is the best coach they have had on the Flats since Bobby Ross. But there is a talent gap on the defensive side of the ball coming up this year, and good offensive teams will exploit that–especially strong running teams, which Georgia will be this season. North Carolina and Miami will beat the Jackets, as will the Dawgs. At Clemson, Dabo has not shown me much, and Spiller was his only impact player last season, so I think the Jackets beat the Tigers. BTW, I think this team would be 7-5 without CPJ. I respect the guy–he’s worth a win or two a year.

I see Tech at 9-3, the Dawgs at 10-2–and the beginnings of another Bulldog streak emerging. Georgia will be strong in 2011. Very strong, in fact. I suspect that Richt’s housecleaning after last season will be the catalyst to a renewed ability to challenge for the SEC title. Call it a very biased hunch.

Heeldawg ….. actually, GT’s D should be in better shape than GA’s due to the fact that they are both running the same scheme, and GA is replacing 6 starters – arguably their 4-6 best defenders. GT on the other hand loses Burnnette, Morgan, Sed Griffin, but gains (starter) Cooper Taylor, thus only replacing 2 starters. The Jackets’ strength on D too is it’s LBs, but probably returns a better/deeper secondary than GA.

Yes, GA’s softer schedule should = more wins, but don’t be surprised if the Dogs have a similar seasons to USC’s last year with a Freshman at QB. Yes, Barkley was a TRUE freshman and Murray a RS Freshman, but I think everyone would agree that Barkley as a “true” is probably equal to or better than Murray as a “RS”.

Georgia gets Florida after Florida goes through a BRUTAL 3 game SEC stretch of Alabama, LSU & Miss St. All play Florida tough. I’d imagine Brantley might get sacks 15 times in those 3 games–1 bad hit or fall— some kind of knee or shoulder injury–Alabama & LSU will bring the house against the weak Florida O-Line, Brantley and the O-Line showed in Spring scrimmages they’ll give up a LOT of sacks, even last year, Florida gave up almost 30 sacks last season, Brantley’s not as stout as Tebow, don’t think he’ll be able to take a hit—he’s really never been hit. I don’t think Georgia will even face Brantley—unfortunately, folks are going to tee off on him and with his lack of mobility, he’ll likely have a short season end in Mid-October. I hope not, but this is the SEC, and you saw what happened to Colt McCoy, and he’s mobile. Even if Florida hobbles into the Georgia game without major injuries, they’ll be banged up and bruised.

Agree totally with the 2 most accurate pickers–Athlon & Phil Steele. Ga Tech not a top 25 team this season. SO many good teams in the ACC this year that are better like NC, Clemson, FSU, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Miami. No way Tech beats Georgia, Miami, NC, Clem or VTech. 7-5 in 2010 for CPJ.

Better question is why you’re going against the 2 most accurate pre-season experts–what makes you think you’re so much smarter? Too many good defenses he’ll run up against like Clemson, NC has 6 NFL guys on the defense, VTech is always top defense, Georgia’s a a loss for Tech 8 out 9 last Miami’s one of the best all-around teams in the country.

Just a refresher. When you say TECH you mean The Georgia Institute of Technology. Not to be confused with VPI,TT,etc. When it comes down to academics & athletics there is no other. Having laid that to rest, who are Athlon & Steele? Can someone tell me the before/after predictions for Tech for their last two years? They would look like complete idiots. Are you saying the champions of last years ACC are no better than 6th in the nations toughest division this year? LUDICROUS

What gives you a glimmer of hope, is Athlon said if Murray has a good season and turnovers are fixed, Georgia could win the SEC East, and Steele said if he had to pick just 1 darkhouse to go on a run and win it all this year it would be Georgia. Sicne those are the 2 most accurate predictors of college football, their opinion means more than anyone else’s.

Of course, the other thing is, both times Richt had a season like 2009, say 2001 or 2006, Richt finished in the top 3 in the country the next season both times. So it seems plausible he’ll respond to a lackluster 2009 with a big season again like he always has in the past. He’s never had 2 bad seasons in a row, and he’s only finished outside the top 10 3x at Georgia.

Ga Tech can run, but they can’t throw, so those defenses will do what Georgia did, load the box, dare em’ to pass. We havn’t had a National Champion that got there in decades running the triple option. Also, your defense doesn’t get experience defending the pass when you run the triple option 90% of plays. It’s not used much in college.

GT will be the most overrated team this year. Option offense is not a long term offensive strategy. Once a team gets it figured out, it’s not hard to shut down. I predict, at most 6 wins for GT this year.
