Even this Milwaukee dance team, shown warming up, has seen sunnier days. (Photo by M. Bradley)
Milwaukee — I’m sitting in the Bradley Center. There are two things good I can say about the Bradley Center: First, it has a nice name; second, it has a roof. Other than that …
It’s raining in Atlanta. I know. It was pouring when Airtran Flight 420 departed — 75 minutes late — from Hartsfield-Jackson this afternoon. From the forecasts, I wasn’t sure we’d depart at all. So I guess, in that sense, I’m glad I’m here.
Then again, “here” is Milwaukee. Where it’s 45 degrees — 45 degrees! — and windy and foggy and raining. It might be possible to find a bleaker setting in April in the Northern Hemisphere. Then again, it might not.
I mentioned the weather to Dominique Wilkins. “What do you expect?” he said. “It’s Milwaukee. It’s just … dreary.”
Students of history will note that I, M. Bradley, was in this city last month to cover Georgia Tech in the NCAA tournament. And it snowed then. But somehow you expect snow in a Midwestern city in March. It’s now spring. And it’s a balmy 48 degrees. Give me a break.
About the series: It has been a bore. The Hawks won the first two games easily, and at issue tonight is whether the Bucks can win the game that keeps them from getting swept. They’re passing out red towels at the Bradley Center that read, “Fear the Deer,” but I don’t believe the Hawks arrived shaking in their sneakers. (Shivering from the cold, perhaps. But not from terror.)
The Hawks’ dressing room is scheduled to open in five minutes, so I’ll duck down there and see if anyone appears to be suffering from a phobia of antlered beasts. I’ll check back momentarily. And send some hot chocolate, would you?
Update from the Hawks’ locker room: Not much to report. (At playoff time, no news is always good news.) Mike Woodson said: “I like the way we handled our business at home. Now we’ll see what we can do here.”
Woodson also had this observation: “It was 39 degrees when we got on our bus this morning [for shootaround].” Then he laughed. Or maybe he just shivered.

I Hate Josh’s attitude. he just let jennings go rite by him and is mad at everyone else and is yelling at them. and he didnt even take the ball out he just dropped it and walked down court. man we need a coach who will sit hit ass down for thinking he’s too good.

Rebounds are 20-17, Bucks. Not terrible. But not good if you’re the bigger team.

Ah yes, you can always count on the Hawks to revert to form; i.e., lose.

Jennings blows by Josh Smith on the baseline. A lot of guards can do that to a power forward. But Smiths defensive set up, footwork, and denial of the baseline was a joke. That is why the Hawks will be embarassed by Orlando.

Hey Mark, why do the Hawks look so out of sinc tonight?? They don’t seem to have the intensity we see at home. Can they come back in the second half??

Horford just made a great steal. Took a Milwaukee lob out of the air and fed Marvin, who got fouled. Big play, believe it or not. Bucks had a chance to go up 19.

Even though I am not a huge fan of Woodsen as a coach you can’t do much when offense is not playing well. Than again our offense is more of a one on one AAU style of play compared to most of the NBA teams that run at least one motion offense

Hawks within 13 at the break. Not quite 10, but not 17, either.
Still a winnable game. But it will take a huge second half to win now.

We have no motion in our offense. u watch the lakers and the jazz their players are constantly moving, finding holes and doing cuts to get points in the paint. we play from the outside in while everyone else play inside out.

They need to talk about how to cover man to man and not switch or to show and help out. The Bucks killed us on the switches…lack of intensity also was a problem. Lucky we are only down 13 and yes we are still in it!

I’m not totally surprised by how were playing, but I’m still extremely upset. I very angry that we don’t get the ball to Smoove in the post on every possession. He’s either going to get doubled or get a shot at the basket. Even if Mbah a Moute is on Smoove, you give him the ball. JJ’s going to have a weaker defender on him. We’ve got to play better defensive.
GO HAWKS!!

Scott Skiles said before the game that he wasn’t “thrilled” about the layoff before Game 3.
That said, the Hawks are playing like dogs. Stupid, lazy and unfortunately, all-too-predictable.
Skiles vs. Mike Woodson is no contest. Give them the same team to coach and Skiles would finish an 82-game season at least 20 games ahead of Woodson.
I hope Mr. Bradley pillories Woodson after the game. First Q. should be: “Mike, knowing this ensemble’s record on the road during the playoffs, didn’t you have any sort of original thought about motivating them to come out with a little fire?”
What dogs.

This is what it is.. Woody has been hearing his fans say use his bench so much they he is actually starting to do it more.. zaza was out there for a while and mo and joe got in a while too.. not saying dont use them but its the playoffs now we need the best players on the floor unless their hurt or foul trouble. U can put them in but not for extended minutes.. this offseason they need to learn how to play with each other… ive never seen zaza horford and josh in at the sametime, so why use this lineup in the PLAYOFFS?? That just doenst make sense… why sit crawford out for the rest of the half?? he’s the offense we need to get back into the game. Bibby gets tired QUICK seems like to me.. He has such a hard time getting past defenders on offense that he is wore out on the defensive end..

I think “within” perhaps should be used as “the Hawks are within 13 points of going ahead”
but then Mark, that’s why the AJC pays you the big bucks.
