Here’s a submission from an unexpected source: The famous Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe loosed a screed against Georgia president Michael Adams on Sunday. Bobby’s point — I’ve known him since 1978, when I was a cub reporter at the Lexington Leader and he’d gotten snowed in on an assignment to write about the Kentucky Wildcats — was that Adams is unfit to be president of the NCAA.
A couple of things here: First, Adams insists he’s not interested in the NCAA, and second, almost nobody believes him. That said, here are the highlights from Bobby’s blast:
Former NCAA president Myles Brand lost a battle with pancreatic cancer last September. A search committee is at work to choose his successor, and while I do not know for sure who should be that person, I have little hesitation in saying that I know who most definitely should not be that individual. That would be Michael Adams, president of the University of Georgia since 1997 and, from all indications, a leading contender for the job.
To say that the Adams reign at Georgia has been controversial is to indulge in vast understatement. Now, the idea of a college president, especially one at a large state university, butting heads with faculty, clashing with the athletics department, or having policy decisions challenged by everyone from politicians to alumni is not uncommon. Some of that almost inherently comes with the territory.
Complicating matters at Georgia is an arrangement where there is a Board of Regents responsible for the running of the entire network of state colleges, as well as an entity known as the UGA Foundation, which oversees investment gifts and pledges, manages investments, and distributes endowment gifts and scholarships, among many functions. Is there inherent office politics? Are there friendships and loyalties? You betcha. Are all the dynamics at the University of Georgia remotely understandable to outsiders such as you and me? Absolutely not.
But here’s something that is easy to comprehend. After being subjected to six years of what its members believed to be serious lapses of judgment and competence, the UGA Foundation engaged prestigious Atlanta law firm King & Spalding to select an independent firm to conduct what is known in the trade as a forensic audit, not of the entire Adams operation, but of seven specific items it believed called into question Adams’s conduct.
Is there more? Oh, yes. Lots.
Start with the idea that he is not really an academic. His doctorate from Ohio State is in political communication. Michael Adams is a spinmeister. He is a clever and ruthless politician. He was once chief of staff to then-Senate Minority Leader Howard Baker. He knows how to amass allies — a power-seeking liquor magnate named Donald Leebern being the most prominent — and he knows how to wield power. He is not a leader. He is a schemer and an intimidator.
And still more:
He pushed out athletic director Vince Dooley, a much-beloved figure in Georgia, a year ahead of schedule and then sold a surprisingly compliant Atlanta Journal-Constitution the entirely misleading premise that it was a matter of Academics vs. Athletics, which was simply not the case. The idea that the newspaper of Ralph McGill would buy into such a phony act is truly sad.
What’s really scary is that the same search firm that delivered him to the University of Georgia is handling the NCAA matter as well. As one Georgia source said, “Don’t ever underestimate Michael Adams.’’
But if the NCAA people want to investigate Adams for themselves, all they need do is pick up a book written by the late Rich Whitt titled, “Behind the Hedges: Big Money and Power Politics at the University of Georgia.’’ (NewSouth Books, Montgomery, Ala.) It’s all there, in exquisite detail.
And here we note — as has been noted before in this space – that the firm in question is Parker Executive Search of Atlanta. And here I must also point out that this newspaper was not “sold” on Adams’ rationale for ousting Dooley. I still bear the memories of a not-entirely-comfortable off-the-record lunch at the Commerce Club convened by Adams in the summer of 2003. (Adams did most of the talking. Shockingly enough, he wasn’t happy with some of the things I’d written.) But let’s get back to Bobby, who’s about to wind it up:
Both [former King & Spalding partner Robert] Miller and [law professor James] Ponsoldt are mystified that the NCAA would even consider Adams as a candidate for its most important job.
“The charges against him all come back to integrity,’’ said Miller.
C’mon, NCAA. Wake up. You can do better than Michael Adams.
Me, I’m guessing Bobby Ryan is about to get an invitation for lunch at the Commerce Club. If I recall, I had the chicken.

The only mistake we (UGA) made was hiring Adams in the first place. The only thing he has done for the University is to make it look bad. Fired Dooley, hired Herock, removed tailgating from the sidewalks and road side spaces and now closed North Campus. If he had his way 100% he would close all of the streets at the university and ban cars from the campus. Our University is full of tradition and beauty and he is slowly scheming to get rid of the traditions. I expect to pick up the paper one day and find that the arches have been eliminated and the fence has been extended to reduce access to North Campus. As a member of the Presidents Club I can’t wait until Adams is gone!

I learned all I needed to know about Michael Adams’ character ( or lack thereof ) with the way he handled the UGA basketball players when they went to speak with him to get an explanation as to why they were not going to get to play in the tournament. He refused to speak with them and called the police to have them removed.
With that said, we all need to engage in that time-honored practice of making him appear to be the greatest thing that has ever happened to college athletics in an effort to get the NCAA to take him…it’s called pass the trash.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, on North Avenue, a football player gets suspended for ten games. Exactly, what do you have to do to get suspended for ten games? It would have to be a pretty serious offense wouldn’t it? Inquiring minds need to know, and nobody at the AJC seems interested.

Mark Bradley,
You have not done any favors to the Dawgnation with this article. We were hoping that the NCAA would hire Adams away from us just as much as that TechVillage was hoping Hewitt would take the St. John’s job. But your article will help expose the truth about the power hungry, conniving, sneaky, control freak, Dr. Michael Adams, and the NCAA will no longer be interested in hiring him. The result will be Dr. Adams (a.k.a. Blofield from the James Bond movies) will stay at UGA and torment us for many more years.
Thanks for nothing!

Adams has been all about Adamms since he arrived. Two things: He is in charge as UGA President and was in charge during the latter days of AD V D. Dooley had over stayed HIS welcome and now, so has Dr Adams. UGA is better off with BOTH of these men gone.
Dooley truly made his mark as coach and AD. He also was a fine ambassador at large for UGA. A Gentleman he is. They do not make them anymore like VD. Vince was/is also a self promoter but aren’t we all??
Adams? His time has come and gone. UGA can do better. UGA deserves better.

Real Truth
March 29th, 2010
2:45 pm
Dr. Michael Adams is the real person responsible for the Jim Harrick/NCAA probation fiasco. Dr. Adams waived UGA nepotism rules to allow Harrick to hire his son, who then taught the infamous “principles of coaching basketball class.” Dr. Adams then overruled the admissions committee that had denied the admission of Tony Cole on academic and character grounds when asked by his good friend, the now disgraced coach Jim Harrick. Also, Dr. Adams was instrumental in the hiring of his longtime friend and Pepperdine chum, Jim Harrick.
Without Adams, Harrick may have never been hired at UGA to begin with. Without Adams, Tony Cole would not have been admitted into school. And without Adams Jim Harrick could not have hired his son.

The most ergregious Adams offense isn’t even mentioned! When he fired Dooley, alumni donations instantly dried up, so Adams cashed out an annuity being paid by a pharma company (the dry eyes formula) that cost the University tens of millions (I recall it being $60 MM) and cost the researcher who invented it something like $12 million. Adams did it under the table, without the UGA researcher’s consent, and made the UGA community think that since they raised so much money that year–that no one cared that Dolley was fired! Adams is a bad guy.

I know that we are talking sports here, but look at the academic side. Has UGA really become an elite university that a lot of students talk about wanting to go to after high school? Not really. The academic standard has gone up because UGA can be choosy due to the amount of applicants, but it does not mean that the academic standard has truly been raised. And it certainly has not raised to the level of a national university other than football. Adams’ job is not only to work with the department heads and athletic director, it is to improve the standard of the university.
For a good example, look at Betty Siegel or Dan Papp at Kennesaw State. Look at Wayne Clouth at Georgia Tech. Both of these schools have improved greatly academically and in sports. Wish the same could be said at UGA.
It begs to be asked...

Can you imagine how much evil Dr. Adams could do as head of the NCAA? He’d probably extort very major university athletic program of huge amounts of cash, honorariums, etc. or put them all on probation for trumped up violations. And I bet he’d sell each national championship to the highest bidder.

Matt the Brave – Not sure what you’re talking about, the academic quality at UGA has gone up dramatically during the time he’s been in charge. However, this largely due to the fact that the applicant pool is enormous, hope pays tuition for the majority of applicants, and the student enrollment is capped at the same size as a decade ago.
So I don’t think we can credit or discredit Adams on the quality of students.
His faculty relations however are legendary. In a bad way of course.

Need I remind you Bradley of the rules that were dictated to the media representatives in our last meeting at the Commune Club? I told you 6 years ago that this type of criticism would not be tolerated. If I were my own kid, you and I would be going at it right now. You are a “bad guy.” Why don’t you try explaining this to my parents. Looks like Liver & Onions for you next time. That is if I do not issue a Royal decree mandating that your employment be terminated.
To the loyal UGA fans and Alum….I offer this. I am the President of the University. I run the show. Who are you and what role do you play? What revenue stream do you bring to MY University? (This is not directed to anyone that donates in access of $50K a year) I am the King. You are the subject. Yes, subject to my rule. You are fortunate that I allow the middle and lower class to sit side by side with the genteel aristocracy on Autumn Saturdays. Actually, that will be changing soon as well. Effective in 2011, only season ticket buyers with a verified income of $500,000 a year will be allowed to sit in 100 and 200 level sections. That is with a minimum contribution of at least $50,000 a year. Only late model luxury vehicles with a blue book value of $50,000 or more will be issued University parking spots. All others will be required to park at new dirt lots behind the Wal-Mart on Epps Bridge Road. Older, non air-conditioned school buses will be provided to ferry the lower class fans to and from the stadium. However, the lots will be gated. That is…with 12ft tall chain link fencing and razor wire on top. See….we only want you in the stadium to provide noise. This location will provide you a shantytown like experience that is befitting of your station in life. For this reason, you will not be allowed to enter the stadium until one hour before kickoff. This will insure that you, the undesirables, are incapable of ever trashing MY beautiful campus again. As an added incentive, the University will supply military style latrines and a First-aid tent at the gated dirt lots for your use. Plus, access to your favorite shopping venue will be steps away. This really is the best compromise for all involved. It includes elements of both class seperation and equal access. I hope you all can see the wisdom of my vision. If not….oh well, eat it. I hold a straight flush in my hands and you are sitting on a two of a kind. Feedback and opinions are welcome.

The University of Georgia has become one of the premier public universities in the country under Michael Adams. Fundraising has been strong. The campus has gone through numerous building projects and is absolutely beautiful and exceptionally functional. The academics are outstanding, as numerous programs are nationally ranked. The athletics are prospering, as nearly every sport is extremely competitive except men’s basketball, and even that now is looking positive with Fox in as coach. Let’s face it. Individual decisions (i.e. Dooley contract non-renewal or any financial decision) are going to cause problems along the way, but a good executive takes the heat and makes the important ones anyway. Look at the overall return that Adams has provided, and one cannot deny that the University has prospered under Adams. Adams has done a great job as head of the University and has reaped the benefits of being able to put together outstanding administrators, faculty, and students. The University is a great place to be!!!!!

Mark,
You have been Anti-Adams and didn’t fall for that athletics-over-academics baloney, but the AJC in general did. The AJC still hasn’t called for Adams to resign or be fired, although the members of the newspaper’s brass finally called for Don Leebern to not be reappointed as a regent. The paper should call for Adams and Leebern to both be removed from their UGA and UGA System posts.

FWIW, please do not try to equate Dr. Adams with Fred Davison. I knew Dr. Davison when I was a student, and he was one of the classiest people I have known. Also, during most of my time at UGA, the drinking age was 21; and there was none of the overzealous attitude toward underage drinking that there is now. I say, as long as students are not behind the wheel or causing a disturbance, give them a warning and find someone to get them home rather than punishing them just because you can smell alcohol. That is the way it is handled at most campuses in the South, but Dr. Adams apparently wants to make a “statement.”

You just don’t do that to a CFB legend who invested his whole life in the University of Georgia. We saw the same thing with FSU and Bobby Bowden. Just dirty no good politics. Thank you Mark. You are the only AJC person who got it right. I wrote to the Editor right after Behind the Hedges was published and the reply was that it was an Athletic issue. I hold the AJC responsible for the fact that UGA has had to put up with him so long. A regular contributor before the debacle, I haven’t given a dime to UGA since and won’t until he is gone, gone, gone. I have begged people to read the book. The author was a Pulitzer Prize winner who is a member of the UK Journalism Hall of Fame.(He had no “dawg” in the fight, which gives him even more credibility.) His research was extensive and there are some great quotes from Barbara Dooley. If he had only lived to promote and defend the book, Adams would have been gone a long time ago and theh AJC would have had Mud on it’s face. It you are a DAWG, READ THE BOOK!!! You won’t find it at the UGA Bookstore but I saw it at Barnes and Noble on Peachtree and it is on Amazon. Oh, and one of the reasons Adams has been here so long is that Leeburn financed Sonny Perdue who would not let Thubert Baker investigate. Leeburn and Adams were friends and Leeburn is responsible for him being here and kept his fist on the Bd of Regents so they didn’t do their job either. The book is better than a novel.

The droopy, tired looked in my eyes is the result of years of dealing with the ignorant and public school educated masses that have never contributed one cent to MY University….yet show up on Autumn Saturdays wearing their blue jeans and Wal-Mart T-shirts feeling entitled to drink their pitiful sorrows away on MY lawn. And with low class spirits to boot! It is fine if these low rent fans indulge in the purchasing of UGA merchandise that greatly benefit the revenue stream of MY University. Just stay off of the grassy areas, close to the stadium, designated for the classy people and remain in the hot asphaltic areas more befitting your station in life….such as the Clarke CentralHS lot. Or better yet, park in locations so far away that the walking distance will serve to improve upon your obesity issues while simultaneously tiring you to the point that the true, cultured fans are given at least a brief respite from your native tongue and its propensity to scream drunken obscenities during the game. Please understand my vision. I am trying to make the game more enjoyable for a select few while also assisting the dis-enfranchised in accepting their proper role.

Many people falsely accuse me of wrong doing. That is one of the negative aspects of true leadership. But…I have the power. Let me see…hmmmm. Many of you are in favor of me allowing the expansion of the stadium in such a fashion as to close the west end zone and eliminate the traditional view of campus over the bridge. Many others are steadfastly against such a measure. I have reached my decision. There will never be another expansion and I am in the process of writing the order to dismantle the bridge. No expansion. No bridge. There will be a new guard station built in the location and nobody who earns less than $500,000 a year will be allowed to cross from north campus to south campus ever again between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00PM on gamedays. Attempts at doing so illegally will be met with stiff resistance by the Athens/CC Police Department. Sound like fun? I can do better and I will if I continue to be slandered in this forum.

robodawg is right,
Universities have sold out to corporate business managers nationwide. Bob Ryan is right in his analysis of Michael Adams, but he shows his ignorance when he says that Adams isn’t an academic. So what?? Oh right, because Miles ” Mr. Zero Tolerance against Bob Knight” Brand was such a Rhodes Scholar!! Give me a break! What does being an academic have to do with being president of the NCAA? Absolutely nothing! The NCAA is ALL about politics and ALL about generating revenue. Given that criteria, Adams is a natural fit.
As for all of these supporters of Adams who say that he brought the university to prominence, it’s total BS. The HOPE Scholarship almost single handily kept the best students in state, and ALL of the state universities have benefited from an increase in revenue the last 12-13 years. Unfortunately, because of this legislation; the state schools have become more overcrowded than ever. And because of that the quality of education students recieve has declined. All the so-called measurables like high enrollment and new facilities don’t always tell the whole story.

As a native Athenian and football season ticket holder for more than a quarter-century, I can assure Mr. Ryan’s readers that the ONLY positive thing Adams has done since occupying (and I use that term in the sense that the Federal Army occupied the South during Reconstruction) the president’s chair is to hire Damon Evans as athletic director. Coach Evans was Coach Dooley’s hand-picked successor, and he has proven to be an excellent AD. Further, since Adams spent much energy beating his breast over having hired the first African-American AD in Southeastern Conference history, he has made Coach Dooley’s choice virtually bullet-proof. Otherwise, he is a blot on the history of the country’s oldest state university. He should not go to the NCAA, he should go to the devil.

Eh…Evans is okay IMO. Unlike many UGA fans who worship the group that Vince Dooley walks on, I’ve never cared much for Dooley personally. But as an AD, Dooley was really pretty good. New facilities were built, the athletic teams were very good in a multitude of sports. Football went down somewhat in the 90’s, but reemerged under Coach Richt towards the end of Dooley’s tenure. Evans is a little too political for my liking which is why Adams hired him. He’s been pretty mediocre as far as I’m concerned. I think the overall sports program at UGA is down a little compared to where it was in the late 90’s-early 2000’s.

Oh how I wish the NCAA would hire Adams and we could get his butt face out of Athens.
He has done more to unite the Georgia Bulldog nation than any other individual I can recall – although it is in hatred of him.
I remember how he was booed out of Sanford Stadium after escorting the homecoming queen to the field the week he forced out Vince Dooley and then snuck in the back door of the President’s Office building to avoid the tailgaters in fron of his office.
And calling the cops on basketball players who went to talk with him! Dean Tate would have gone out and sat down on the steps and talked with them. But Dean Tate had class and a heart for the students. He cared for the students and Adams only cares about himself.
I still cannot believe he crapped on us and got away with in in the Jim Harrick, Jim Harrick Jr, Tony Cole episode. He sould have been fired then and there.
Let’s pary the NCAA is stupid enough to hire him and we can get him out of Athens.
And I hope the next president is a decent guy who is hired because he cares about UGA and it’s students and the quality of their education, and not because he is proported to be an excellent fund raiser.
UGA deserves better than Mike Adams.
PS The only thing I ever really liked that Mike Adams did was when he told Jeff Shultz where to stick it one time in a press conference. One butthole crapping on another even bigger butthole.

Where was the AJC’s investigative reporting back when the report was released showing improprieties in the Adams adm ? I believe Adams ” inoculated” himself from criticism and real investigation by the AJC. He did it by being an outspoken proponent of UGA embracing the affirmative
action/diversity/multi-culturalism agenda that infatuates the AJC-
namely Cythia Tucker. It was a smart move for Adams. It is hard to
see it as any more than political opportunism, given his supposed
belief in conservative Republican principles.
It was sickening to see the AJC dismiss valid criticism and
justification for investigation of his administration as the silly
product of hicks who care about nothing but football and how Coach
Dooley was muscled out.

Coach Evans has raised the overall athletic program at UGA since his investiture. Don’t forget that UGA led the nation two years ago in profit for athletics. That pays for all the so-called minor sports, in which UGA has won national championshipships, like equestrions (in which UGA won a national championship in its first year of competitionship) and gymnastics, getting into the finals of baseball. These are’t minor for the guys and womenwho bust their fannies participating in them. Damon Evans made all this possible. I love what Coach Dooley did for UGA, but he never put any emphasis into anything other than football. Coach Evans has done a better as AD. He is priceless.

PalaDawg, you don’t need to get your facts straight, you need the get the facts. Vince is the one that brought in the Women’s Equestrian Team. Nobody else. It was all Vince’s idea and it was a wise decision. He had relatively little expense because of the Vet school and Ag school. It would also add a women sport to keep the Feds off our campus. For some reason I feel that you wouldn’t have given Evans credit for this if it had failed. Give Vince credit for the swim team, too. And diving. Vince did a fine job. Put some great coaches in UGA. Give Evans credit for running a tight ship and for the new basketball coach. Give Adam’s credit for a basketball coach, too. And his son, the professor of basketball. Evans jumped on Adam’s bus and trashed Vince. Hope some day he will try to pull Vince out from under the bus were he was pushed.

Not sure why Bob Ryan would be “surprised” by the AJC just regurgitating what they have been spoon-fed. Hasn’t been any real reporting done in that paper in 30 years.

Let’s not forget Adams most astounding feat – you know, looking the other way when your biggest booster (Leeburn) takes up residence with his girlfriend (as opposed to his wife back in Columbus) who happens to be the highly successful gymnastics coach. Family values, anyone? Oh, and did you hear about the big birthday party Suzanne threw The Donald, complete with strippers? Ask Dr. Adams – he was there, of course.

Seems like Mr. Ryan from all the way up in Boston, Mass has picked up on 2 things most Georgians seemed to be complacent on: Michael Adams is a controversial and often arrogant abuser of power (a person who must see himself as the center of the universe in the realm of ethics – of which he doesn’t seem to have any) AND the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (aforementioned as the the paper of Ralph McGill) is genuinely blind on any issues in the State of Georgia, be it Michael Adams or the apparent blind abuse of power going on under the Gold Dome in Atlanta! Cudos Mr. Ryan, well said!

Why can’t we just have an idiot basketball coach like Tech? An idiot president is not good. And don’t look now, but by Monday there will be charges filed in the taxi-gate episode. At least one of the perps were on the varsity, according to a source in the police dept., but it’s not clear if the others are on practice squads, on scholarship, etc. The couple and one witness is reliable, but the taxi driver is not cooperating so far. It’s going to be bad, so we need to brace ourselves.

Good riddance if Adams leaves. The NCAA is messed up enough already, he can’t do much harm there. Now we have bigger fish to fry. Richt or Evans or the Dir. of Football Ops or somebody has got to get a handle on the discipline problems in the football program. Word from Athens-Clarke Cty PD is that there will be charges filed in the taxi assault case. The four accused “have ties” to the football program including the varsity roster, though no names have been released yet. They basically bullied the couple and their friend and made a lot of sexually derogatory comments, including threats of sexual violence. Hitting and slapping the couple may not be the worst of it. Absolutely no excuse for UGA student-athletes, or even just UGA students to behave in such a manner. I am sure Richt will respond quickly and harshly, but it is just too damm late. Someone needs to put in a ‘lifeskills’ program to teach these boys how to become men without becoming a**holes.

I love the Dawgs, living in Athens, and the university. I am getting sick of these recurring, embarrassing criminal and behavioral episodes on and off campus perpetuated by the same athletes we cheer on gamedays. It is time to stop the entitlement and hero-worship of these immature bullies. They are not fit to wear the red and black.

Someone had better start talking (the taxi driver, the thugs, someone who knows who the thugs are) or this thing is going to drag out. It would look a lot better for the university to be ahead of the curve, to be ahead of the police and press for once, in addressing one of these events.

It’s going down on Monday, if not before, and it’s not going to be pretty. The police did not report the incident until after someone who knew the perps came forward.

Society and young folks in particular are getting too wimpy. The white or asian kids who complained about the brothers having a little fun with them in the taxi is a classic example. More baseless allegations against athletes with better things to do than be nice to groupies.

Let’s face it, people. We all see a lot of folks on autumn Saturdays who we tolerate or even indulge simply because they are wearing the red and black and will be cheering for our Dawgs. They weren’t students, much less athletes, and they generally act like the trash and drunken rednecks they are, including leaving a lot of debris around campus and treating our guests inhospitably. But that’s OK, they’re Dawg fans and we can pick up after them and clean up their mess and apologize for their crude behavior. What I can’t brook is when our coaching staff recruits criminal-athletes and bully-athletes instead of student athletes.

While at UGA, Adams’ income has exceeded a million dollars a year plus all he could steal from the foundation and all the perks he could amass. I don’t know why this creep would need more money, but he certainly has his eye on NCAA $$$. Adams has just about done all of the damage he can do to UGA, and certainly an honest new governor will can him and purge the BOR of Lebron and Sonny’s stooge appointees. The NCAA actually deserves Adams, but maybe he will just slink away in the next year.

Mark Bradley, what a liar.
You come running in here to tell us that Michael F. Adam$ was mad at you for what you wrote about him.
What the AJ-C said about Michael F. Adam$ is a matter of record, as the Boston Globe points out.
You told us the donations are up. You had a meal on Michael F. Adam$ with MY MONIES I donated to him to get DONATIONS to UGA, not to buy you a fancy butt lunch.
Chicken costs one dollar.
How much does Adam$’ expense report indicate it cost me for you to have it there ?
You faithfully toed the line, obviously.
You failed to make the point that the Boston Globe DID FOR YOU, that Adam$ is a cheat.
Conspire with him.
Vince was against going around the Admissions Office for Tony Cole.
Adam$ gave Tony Cole his Presidential Admit to UGA.
Vince was against and had already removed Jim Harrick Senior from his list of candidates for UGA men’s basketball coach.
Adam$ insisted Vince hire him because he had worked with Jim Harrick Senior at Pepperdine, where Adam$ was NOT president.
Vince refused to go against the state of Law of Anti-Nepotism for Jim Harrick Junior.
Adam$ hired Jim Harrick Junior then said at the Press Conference you did not report Mark Bradley, “How was I supposed to know what is going on in the classrooms at The University of Georgia.”
Mark Bradley you are JUST a liar.
You did NOT report on the real facts of this scumbag.
And, now today you try to make it sound as if you WISH you had said what the Boston Globe DID SAY about the sucker.
Who cares what the name of the Executive Search Firm is Mark Bradley.
The AJ-C most assuredly DID and still DOES toe the line on Michael F. Adam$.
If you want to read what an article looks like that proves that the AJ-C is NOT SOLD still on Michael F. Adam$, read the Boston Globe story, or any of mine by direct comparison.

Nothing personal against Damon, but he is under Adams’ thumb and realishes it for his career path. I’m pretty sure Vince presented Damon as the heir, and tutored him in the ADept.. Damon now has image of being Adams’ pet and throwing VD under the bus….whether that is accurate or not.

We may well be somewhat narrowminded as a group here, but I think the NCAA job would be right for Mike. You never read about him unless there
is something to do with UGA sports. Being pres of a major university has other duties dosen’t it? Do we ever hear about those. If Mike leaves, then UGA could get a real president which would be one that delegates the full atheletic program to someone else and spends his time on the right topics which are interfacing with key industry and govt figures to obtain more research grants, bringing imminent scholars to the faculty, critically reviewing the cirriculum so that improvements can be made. This group probably dosen’t want to read this stuff but a prominent pres concentrates on these matters. Dr Barker set the goal at Clemson 10 years ago to get Clemson into the top 20 public universities as rated by US News and he has done it. This is what the best presidents do.
