Playgirl wants Vick to apologize to dogs by … posing nude?
According to Life & Style Magazine — a publication with which I’m unfamiliar, perhaps because I have neither a life nor a style — Playgirl has offered Michael Vick $1 million to pose unclad. But if you’re thinking the overture might be a tad tawdry … no worries! The million dollars will go to PETA!
Understand: This wouldn’t be one of those “I’d-rather-go-naked-than-wear-fur” ads for which celebs have posed. (One of them being Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez. Another being, interestingly enough, Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, who has been suspended from the NBA for being overfamiliar with guns, none of which apparently were used to hunt animals.) The results of any Vick disrobing would run in Playgirl, which would then donate the money to PETA.
According to Life & Style, a Playgirl spokesperson said: “I sent the request to Michael Vick on Wednesday. But we haven’t heard back yet. I figured he paid back society for dogfighting, but what about the animals? This way he could donate a large sum to PETA and all he’d have to do is pose for the magazine! It’s kind of a win-win situation.”
That makes complete sense, doesn’t it? Because, when we get right down to it, does anything say “I’m sorry” like professionally photographed nudity?
I know. It’s crazy. It’s a bad enough idea — just as Vick is trying to reclaim his dignity, let’s have him strip down and forfeit it again — to be one of PETA’s. (You’ll recall that crusading organization wanted to replace Georgia’s live Uga with an “animatronic” dog.) But this wasn’t PETA’s, apparently. This was Playgirl’s. Which would presumably profit from Vick’s appearance in its pages. So there you have it.

You do realize that vick was one of many many falcons players (and NFL players for that matter) who have participated in dog fighting at some point in their life? Trust me on this one. I know many NFL players and if you think for one second that what MV did was an isolated incident, you are either very dumb or just ignorant. Instead of continuing to trash MV over and over, some of you people need to get your head out of your ass and realize that dog fighting was/is a huge problem and that Michael Vick getting caught is the best thing that could have ever happened to these poor dogs. Give Vick a chance to make a right out of a wrong.

If Vick is comfortable with a discreet-enough photo, somewhat along the lines of TG’s (i.e. no groin shots), and Goodell has no objection, and his mentors (Dungy & McNabb) see no harm in it, I see no reason why he shouldn’t do it. he should touch all his bases, talk to all the right people, and if he wants to do it—a million dollars would help a lot of animals—he should go for it.

Yes, he is the one who got caught. But my point is that Michael getting caught has done more to discourage dog fighting than anything else in the history of dog fighting (which dates all the way back to the days of slavery).
And yes, I am a big fan of Vick. He made some stupid mistakes in his life and he paid the price for those mistakes. If he continues on the path that he is currently on, then I wish him the best during the remainder of his career and life. If he drifts back into the dark side, then I will wash my hands of him once and for all. By all indications, Michael is trying to rehabilitate himself and his image an doing a good job of it as of right now.
As for the Falcons organization, there is a lot that the average fan doesn’t realize. I can tell you that without a shadow of doubt many of the “Falcons Brass” knew exactly what Michael as well as many of the other players did during their spare time. As bad as that whole thing looked to the Falcons organization, it could have been much worse.
Whether or not Matt Ryan is a better qb than Michael remains to be seen. He definitely does not sell as many jerseys nor has he single handily sold out games. If you look at Michael’s career when he had a good supporting cast, he had a very good winning percentage. It’s not his fault that they had a bunch of high school wide receivers during his last 2-3 years.

@ Dood – you do make a good point in the fact that it brought a heinous crime into the spotlight. And his PR team has done a good job of humanizing him. I am a big dog lover so his actions disgust me and I know if anyone of the regular working class got caught doing this we’d never have an opportunity to work in our chosen field again.
In summation: he was a rotten punk kid – and I hope he learned from this…all things point to that he did, but he’s still a disaster. Good riddance MV.

I support Vick as a person and his efforts to rebuild his name. He made a mistake, just as many people do in life, got caught, paid his price. Since then, everybody that learned how to read three and four letter words have tried to take what he says out of context. He did not say anything negative about the falcons. He said he understands he could have tried harder. Im positive working next to Donovan Mcnabb lets you see your flaws. He’s learning, and apparently learning is discouraged now by society. I’m saying let the man breath. And as for PETA, a bunch of nobodies. They don’t care to be honest with you, if they did they would actually be out in the streets helping the people who do stop animal fighting rings. They collect checks, and this is a prime example of it. Micheal Vick was just a cash cow for them.

Vick spent time in jail for his physical crime, his moral crime he still needs punishment for. Let’s not give him an easy time. What he did is inhumane and all the time in jail won’t do that. Isn’t Playgirl primarily a magazine for gay men? I think their subscription base is majority male. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s a little different. Everyone commenting seems to be assuming that it’s the ladies who will be looking at Vick should he go for this… and that’s, er, not necessarily so.

Just to add some weight to my statement… according to the wiki, in 2003, two different Playgirl execs stated that 30 percent and 50 percent of of Playgirl’s readership was gay men (their stats differed). Seemore – you do realize that the ONLY reason you have pit bulls right now is because pit bulls have been primarily bred to fight since the 1800s, right? If not for people breeding pit bulls to fight, the canine species known as the pitbull would be long extinct.

OH MY…..What A Surprise….another article about Michael Vick by Bradley or Schultz…….NOT!!!! It’s too bad that the AJC can afford and/or hire decent sports writers instead of ones that continue to write about the same old #$@# week after week.
The sports articles written for the Bird Cage (i.e., D3) that are posted online are better than the rehash coming from the fab two. At least D-Led appears to have moved on from the constant Vick coverage.
