Da'Rick Rogers: If he's a Vol, is Signing Day sunny for Georgia? (AJC photo by Jason Getz)
Vince Dooley, who knew a thing or two about recruiting and about winning, said of the former: “It’s the way you win in the offseason.” And if that’s the case, would Da’Rick Rogers’ apparent defection to Tennessee — esteemed colleague Chip Towers has the breaking news — constitute a loss? A 45-19 sort of loss?
On the one hand, you can’t lose what you never actually had. On the other, Rogers is considered the best player in the state and is rated No. 9 nationally by Rivals.com. He’d committed to Georgia last summer. Bulldog fans — and Bulldog coaches — had been counting on him for a while. But now it appears he’ll be a Vol instead, and if that’s the case he’ll have spurned a program that has won 90 games in nine seasons for one that changed coaches last month.
I’m headed to Athens for tomorrow’s Signing Day doings, but on SD Eve I wanted to ask you folks: If Rogers does wind up signing with Tennessee — he’s scheduled to make his announcement at 9:45 a.m. at Calhoun High — does that take the fizz off Georgia’s recruiting class? Is this a loss? A Big Loss? Or is it no loss at all?
And with that, the floor is open for what I know will be our usual erudite discussion. Thanks in advance.

let him go folks, UGA will be fine at WR. Just make sure our DBs hit him hard this year. We want Rogers to walk away with a bruised G in his chest. Plus, i heard it came down to UT being able to give him his jersey # from HS. His # at UGA is retired by Frank Sinnich (sp?).

Georgia is now up to 15th in Rivals.com’s rankings. The above post has been changed to reflect the update.

This guy sounds exactly the kind of player we do not want at UGA. He is showing character issues that are warning signs. We need players that play hard with good self discipline. We have had plenty of players with lots of talent the last few years but we have not had enough players that could control themselves. Im sure everyone on this board can name some of these guys. I wish the guy luck at Tennessee.

Wasn’t the Brown kid from Nashville a 5 star last year. How many touchdown catches did he have this past year? Give me the Kid, like Wooten, ready to work, compete and play, not the star?

Let’s not get too out of hand by throwing a few 18 year olds under the bus. Yes, Rogers was committed to UGA but apparently still wanted to “play the game” and test his options. If he wanted to “play the game” he should have not committed in the first place. The same can be said about the Nance kid. I hold the system responsible for some of this. At the same time however, these two must step up and take some responsiblity for their actions. They slapped Vandy and UGA in the face. It might can be said that it is the media’s fault for pumping the whole situation up and giving these 18 year old’s tons of power!! I’m not a Bulldog or Vol fan but this story seems to have investigation written all over it. One must ask themselves “why would UT come in this late in the game and offer Nance?” Did he really have that good of year? I can personally say that the region Calhoun is in is pretty weak and in the state championship game it showed that he can not throw in the ball down the field. This is what got them beat!! The screen passes to Rogers were gettin shut down. I think this is a shady situation and it’s a shame to think about these athlete’s were receiving advice that was not in their best interest as an individual.. not a package!! Life is not a package deal… you can’t expect other people to carry you along your whole life. I wish both Rogers and Nance well. Obviously they are very hardworkers to get to this point in their young career. Hopefully things will work out for both schools involved.

Get a life..it’s an 18 yo kid making HIS own decision on his future, NOT YOURS….most of you have already made that decision in life, but you act like a 10 yo crying about what decision a kid made today. It’s football, not life or death, so WAKE UP and try to get on with your life…I’m sure D. Rogers is.

Last year’s hot recruit, marlon brown, turned out to be a bust for GA. DaRick, with his ME attitude, will do nothing up there with all the rednecks—count on it.

The ulitmate humiliation and down right embarassment to Tennessee was how Blame Kiffen DUMPED ALL OVER UT. He kicked their teeth in and left them high and dry to be replaced by a kid coach with 0 credentials. Dooley is there only to show the NCAA that TN is taking institutional steps to clean up their bad boy image. Double, secret probation is fast approaching.
The Kiffen staff wives hated, ( with a passion ) the local Knnoxville area. The former coaches could not stand the fact that there is only one decent restautaurant in east TN and that is Regas. They escpaped is what the inside word is about bolting from Hill BILLY LAND. 7-6 in 2009 and worse this season.

I don’t mean to be argumentative, but was anybody calling Da’Rick Rogers a prima donna last summer after he committed to Georgia?
Mark, The guy had yet to show his true colors. You really are anti-Georgia. Give it a break..Geez!!
