When the definitive biography of Urban Meyer is written (not by me, I believe it’s safe to say), the bizarre doings and undoings of Dec. 26-27, 2009, will be a footnote. The man who quit and then decided instead on a leave of absence says he’ll take a bit of time off after Signing Day. But apparently nothing more.
Meyer said Saturday he plans to coach his Gators in spring practice. If that’s indeed the case — with Meyer, any declaration must carry a disclaimer — then there seems no chance he won’t coach Florida in the 2010 season. And if he coaches Florida next season, that restores some semblance of order to an SEC East in deep-dish flux.
You’d have to say Florida is again the prohibitive favorite to take the division and play for the SEC title. And you’d have to say those reports of the Gators being in disarray after Meyer’s volte-face would, in the blush of recent developments, seem overheated. Doesn’t seem to be hurting recruiting, does it? (Rivals.com ranks Florida No. 1 for its 2010 class, of which 21 of the 25 commitments are rated either 4- or 5-star.) This despite the latest smear campaign from the crown prince of dirt.
A year ago Lane Kiffin accused Meyer, incorrectly, of cheating. Being based three time zones away apparently hasn’t slaked the Kiffin thirst: According to GatorCountry.com, Kiffin and henchman Ed Orgeron have been telling recruits that Meyer is planning to succeed Lee Corso on ESPN’s “Gameday.”
In 1995 Mike Krzyzewski took a leave of absence after back surgery. It was a big deal at the time, but he returned the next season and coaches Duke still. It’s not a big deal anymore, hasn’t been for 15 years. It’s a footnote in a career that has totaled three NCAA championships. Urban Meyer has won the BCS titles twice. Not predicting another anytime soon, mind you. Just sayin’.

This guy is a joke. He’ll tell recruits what they want to hear so they sign. Then he’ll duck out. Then he’ll come back. And God forbid he just drop dead one day. Coaching is this guy’s drug, and he needs therapy for his addiction. It is slowly killing him. Very sad.

Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron may be the biggest fakes in college football ever. The news media really needs to continue blasting these “men acting like children” , i.e. Kiffin/Orgeron, to demonstrate to the parents and families of players that these “coaches” do not need to be let into your living room. Instead of trying to shape young people into both fine football players and men of integrity, they’d rather teach them that lying, cheating, and lack of class are fine ways to live your life if no one will hold you accountable for it, or if they do, money will take just care of the problem. That is not how life really works.

Nobody stays on top forever. The Gators will be good (10-2) but not great. Everything goes in cycles. You cant expect to lose your best offensive player and best defensive player and be as good next year. Brantley a stud? Kentucky game didn’t show me much. Experience can’t be discounted. Florida is going to run the football A LOT more next year while brantley grows into the position. Glad UGA has a stud backfield to rely on. I would be surprised to see any UGA qb throw it more than 20 times a game before mid-season.

I believe that Urban is suffering from Depression and anxiety. If you look at the interviews and the last game he coached you can see he felt get me out of here. The medicine has probably started working and he thinks that he can do it. That is the reason one day- say quiting and next day -say leave of absence. Your mind is a powerful thing. I feel for him and realize he will not get better until he leaves coaching. He has lost the balance between work, family and religion. He needs to talk to Mark and Bobby about how they survie. You can see his children want their daddy back. Mark ask him about the legacy he is leaving with his kids. Football is a game and your family is your legacy.

Florida will lose 4 games minimum in 2010, Meyer loses 4 games a season 40% of the seasons, 2010 is a rebuilding year, looking at losses to LSU, Bama, Georgia, and Tenn or South Carolina. Might lose another game to either FSU, Miss St..
Meyer either goes 13-1 or 9-4, no one sees this as a 13-1 year, so we’re looking at 9-4 or worse.

Urban Liar I guess you don’t read. They lost coaches who either got promotions or increased responsibilities. UF loses coaches because other schools come after them, one of the replacement coaches is even returning to Meyer’s staff. Meyer has lost 3 in the last 3 years to be Head Coaches as opposed to Richt who loses coaches because he shouldn’t have hired them in the first place.

Either way, Florida loses at least three regular season games next year. No, they don’t have bad talent. Quite the opposite, in fact. It’s just that THEY HAVEN’T PLAYED. Yes, Meyer loses at LEAST 4 games a year 2 out the 5 seasons. Florida has 6 tough games, they’ll lose at least 4 of these:
LSU, Bama, Georgia, Tenn, SC, FSU
Losing 4 games a year is nothing new to Meyer, he’s done it twice in 5 years.

I’m surprised so many dawg fans think Grantham is the panacea. Even if he turns the defense around you still got a rookie QB. I’d imagine most teams will come out against UGa trying to stuff the run and see if they can get Murray to make some rookie mistakes. Oh, BTW, don’t forget that Reggie Ball was conference rookie of the year. lol Too bad he was a rookie his whole career. lol

Murray is better than Brantley, Florida has ZERO asdvatage there, and Bobo outcoached the Gator QB Coach in 2009–Cox threw for more TD’s than Tebow.
Georgia has 10 out of 11 starters, better running game, AJ Green and Marlon Bown #1/#2 ranked WR, #1/#2 ranked tight ends.
Georgia has Grantham, the DC that Saban TRIED to hire, so Georgia will have a better defesne than Edwards, the guy Saban did NOT try to hire as DC.
Georgia has all SEC punter AND kicker.

You know nothing,
ESPN reports:
The Gators will sorely miss departed quarterback Tim Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner. But sophomore John Brantley might be a better fit for Florida’s high-octane passing attack. Brantley will lead the Gators to an SEC East title in 2010, and then he’ll win the Heisman Trophy as a senior in 2011.

Gator’s Tator, Tebow only cared about winning. If your offense hadn’t sucked so bad your kicker wouldn’t have had so much practice. You got the same coordinator that Cleveland fired and AJ Greene still has nightmares about coming across the middle against the gators. Murray hasn’t played a down and Brantley has Stafford like talent according to NFL scouts= more misery for UGA.

Urban Crier appears to have gone off the deep end. First, he cries wolf the week before his bowl game, saying that his health situation is so serious that he must take time off from coaching and doesn’t know if when/if he will return. Then, he totally reverses his position just one day later(one of the all time “flip flops”) saying he’s definitely coming back to Florida. Now, he’s telling everyone he’s going to coach the spring game. Apparently, this whole thing was one big JOKE, like the man himself. Urban Meyer is nothing more than an arrogant prick! Isn’t it funny his announcement of a self-admission into a hospital and retirement came right after the loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship. He knew Tebow wouldn’t go out with another title, and he suddenly had a program that wasn’t “invincible” as the media had dubbed them before the SEC Championship game. So, what does he do? He draws attention to UF and himself by faking this “stress-induced” problem with his heart.
I’m not denying he may have one, since running a program like that must be tormenting for a person’s body and mind. However, the teller when it came to note he would a) coach Tebow in his last game even though it wasn’t the BCS Championship, b) have attention turned to himself and his program again through recruiting after the season (like our friend Mark just admitted), and c) all of a sudden be better and only taking a “few weeks off after recruiting” to then coach in the Spring game and being perfectly normal.
Honestly, if Meyer’s situation was as dire as he made it seem when he announced his “retirement” citing his family and life being more important than the “stress placed on him by running such a program”. I’ve heard he’s a huge prick when it comes to coaching, and he normally likes to take all the credit for himself for being successful. Sure, he develops players and coaches (see: Tebow, Strong) but how much did you honestly hear from Charlie Strong before he became a head coach at Louisville? He got that from being a product of Meyer’s coaching staff, which again, places the honor and glory of being an awesome head coach on himself.
He is the most arrogant college coach in history, and it did my heart good to see Saban beat him in “Tebow’s Farewell to the SEC”. Another thing-everyone wants to get on Saban for not showing emotion in the Championship award-ceremony, but get this; he knew he was going to win from the beginning, and it was no surprise to him. Meyer got jealous, and had to do something to focus the media attention on himself again.

Brantley is a good one, he has UGA parents. A Tech uncle. Should see him light it up some this year. UGA will be good this year and if the QB gels, whomever he is, it will be a great offensive team. We will have to see about our defense, and UF’s too. Ga Gator, keep trying to have a decent line of communications going, a few will answer with some intelligence.

Man, this is fun!
You gator gurus actually worship that head case that coaches your football team.
I think highly of our coach too, but WOW!
Listen ya’ll…
I know you are all fired up about the upcoming season but some of you are just not being realistic. It’s going to take more than believing to make it happen. UF has a ton of holes to fill and even more questions that have to be answered before ya’ll can start woofing about wins and titles.
Brantley has not proven he can play well enough to lead that team. A few snaps in mostly mop-up duty isn’t the same as starting and playing the whole game against SEC defenses. And don’t use the KY game as an example. That game was in the bag before Tebow got whacked.
Brantley’s passing skills mean nothing until you find somebody to catch the passes he throws.
And as of right now, you have no proven receiver. Not one. That’s not just a Dawg fan’s opinion. It’s a fact.
And your offensive losses at OL, QB, WR, and TE are minimal compared to the holes in your defense that have to be plugged. All those 4 & 5 star players you plan on replacing your starters
with are missing one very important thing.
Experience.
And it takes more than a spring practice and a fall camp to get it. It will even take more than a couple of games from the typical weak non-conference schedule that UF plays, to get it.
Now before you start woofing again… I can say the same about us. We have to replace half of our defense and teach them all a new scheme. So I feel you.
Speaking of non-conference schedules…why is UF afraid to play a BCS school as part of their
non-conference slate? How about just any quality D-1 opponent period? FSU every year is a cop out. We play GT every year, too.
The Gators never even leave the state of Florida except to play an SEC opponent, and if they schedule it right, they might not have to leave the state even then. That’s pure bullsh!t, IMO.
Say what you want but at least we travel to play somebody other than a bunch of 1AA directional schools…oh, my bad…I forgot ya’ll played… who?… Jacksonville State?…Was that it?
Impressive.
But, I digress.
Urbans egomania and his insistence on keeping his starters in games until the very end, even in blow-outs, will finally catch up with him. The back-ups have minimal experience at best. Minimal.
Now, I’m a Dawg and damn proud to say it. And I want my team to play well and win every game if they can. Plus, I hate the Gators. Not as much as those blow-flies from Atlanta, but almost.
But, understand I’m not some blind homer. We have struggled with every aspect of the game for a couple of years now. I know that. But, I believe we just hired a guy that can help us defensively. I believe we will have outstanding QB play and the offense will score a lot of points…eventually.
Will it be this year?
I have no idea.
But I do know this. We will be competitive. And the SEC East title does not belong to any team yet.
And it is not a given that it will go to UF.
This will be decided on the field. If anybody thinks otherwise, they are just not willing to be honest about it.

Meyer is back after never leaving and thats a good thing for the Gators. Congrats. That “spirited” practice really made him say “screw my family and my health”. I cant believe the media isnt questioning him on this. What happened to “I’ve got my daddy back”? Or all those serious health issues? Amazing what a spirited practice can do. Or shall I say a shallow selfish disfunctional soul can do. But who cares about the family. Its all about winning the east now. Dang sure wont win the SEC. Saban took him behind the woodshed pulled his pants down and spanked his spoiled little tail. Thats the real reason behind all of this. Meyer was the king and Saban didnt just take it from him he took the septor and then beat his tail with it and said I’m not giving this back anytime soon.

Man, for a UGA paper, you sure do report on UF a lot. Does UGA doesn’t get any coverage in the Gainesville Sun or Orlando Sentinel except for box scores and game recaps? And did all the Dawgs become Bama fans too? Looks like it. I guess if you can’t beat them, root for a team that can. Face it, you hate the Gators because they are a better program than UGA. If they weren’t you wouldn’t be on here running your mouth. Bunch of tough guys. Instead maybe you should be talking about your B-ball team that just beat #8 UT and how promising your B-ball team can be with a good coach now and a strong recruiting bed. But no, you’d rather comment on how Meyer will coach spring practice. Is that really news? The AJC knows you guys too well, that’s why they made this “story” a blog.

There are 3 to 4 big time recruits out there that probably needed to hear Meyer say what he said last night. I also think Meyer realizes that, if he is going to be the head coach at Florida, he needs to be at spring practice to help direct the changes in the offense to better suit Brantley…who is, by the way, a big time QB. And people, when
Tebow was hurt and it was not a sure thing that he could play against LSU, the Florida coaches had total confidence that Brantley could win the game. That tells you all you need to know about Brantley. And the dude that continues to rant about Cox being better than Tebow…come on, man! Every coach has made statements like that until they get to where they want to retire. Why are so many people obsessed with the future of the Gators anyway? You would think they would be more concerned with the future of their own team and not be so worried about another team. But I guess that is was great programs do to the fans of other types of programs. Bama beat the Gators this year, but I could care less about Bama…and their thousands of national championships, their great coach, their great players, and their outstanding recruiting class…until just before the Saturday the Gators play them next year. Then let’s talk. Until then, that is all it is…just talk. The past has nothing to do with anything. The Gators will be fine next year (I still think they are the team to beat in the East with Brantley at QB and the tons of talent that remains on the roster). And I think the the Dawgs will be much better. But talk Dawg fans if you beat the Gators next year. Then you have done something to talk about.

Come on people!! Did you REALLY think Urban Meyer was gonna retire from coaching long term and sit around watching “Days of Our Lives”??? This guy was born to be a coach! Obviously, he made an emotional decision in December, probably not really realizing or believing that a LOA would be a viable alternative for him (a tremendous risk on the part of A.D. Jeremy Foley at the time). With the encouragement of his wife, Shelley, Meyer made the correct logical final choice. One way or the other, he would find his way back into coaching and as long as you’re going to coach, UF is as good as it gets. ALSO, look for Meyer to take time off after Feb 3 signing day AND during the early summer instead of doing the chicken plate circuit, all with the blessing of Foley. He will certainly have to learn to delegate alot more (the hardest part). The goal here is to unable Urban to coach for many more years if that is of his choosing and to go out on HIS terms, not because of some other issue.

So many misinformed posters on here. Of course, that may be intentional. It is a fact that Urbans family were the ones who actually encouraged him NOT to retire but to take a leave. Shelley Meyer has been quoted herself as saying that Urban is and will always be a coach but just needs to take time away from the job and not put everything on his shoulders. She was instrumental in convincing Meyer not to just walk away. The one thing I AM concerned about is Urban thinking that he can just go back to the same old way just because he is feeling better. He’s got a great boss in Jeremy Foley who will allow him to take the time he needs and he needs to take advantage of it. I’ll bet he comes back in the fall…better than ever…

I’ve read these three pages of dribble from both gator and Dawg fans and I’m reminded of the long year of Tech fans dribbling their B.S. on here as well. To shut the gator fans, and for that matter Bama and Tenn fans, down all that has to be done is for the 18 to 21 year olds who play the game to win. No amount of trash dumping here will change a thing within the two programs or amongst their fans. Meyer’s on again off again coaching desires is from a man who loves what he does and just doesn’t want to quit. His wife’s view on the subject is a private matter and if Meyer is coaching I bet his wife is behind him. CMR is also a man who loves what he does and has made the moves he needed to try and move his program forward. The bench mark is Florida and will remain there until those kids I mentioned earlier learn to play with consistency. ga gator is right when he states that the Florida team is in the kids heads. I believe we now have a motivational coach that will change the kid’s perspective and instill a belief that they can win against the Florida’s and Alabama’s. Both teams have quality kids playing for them so either can win. I think Georgia is on even ground now with Florida with talent and experience. It is now up to the kids to believe they can win.

Personally, I don’t care if Meyer coaches or not. It’s his choice and it’s a free country. However, you have to ask yourself, why did he make this whole big deal about family and health, cry on TV, say he’s going to quit, and then less than a day later, reverse himself after watching practice? Something’s not right, he’s either very ill, or he made this up to get attention after getting his defendiong champion and number one rated team embarassed by Alabama. I for one think it’s the latter, granted the guy is a great football coach, but he’s insecure and was only looking for some attention because he felt sorry for himself. The key point is that it was for him, not his family, not his health, and not his team. The guy has a serious problem, just like all you inferior UF posters who spend your days trolling UGA sites.

Maybe, the reason so many UGA fans are commenting here is because the title of the article reads: “So much for R&R: Urban Meyer to coach spring practice”, UF is the main team in the East to beat for UGA, and this IS the major paper in the capital city of GEORGIA.

Meyer has lost 4 games ONE time in his entire Head Coaching career
The Gators lose ONE offensive linemen from the 2 deep OL. ONE and that’s it.
Yes the 2010 class is number one, the rest of the players on the team are from #1, #2, #3 and a #11 class (that had the highest avg. star rating that year)
The Gators lost 11 starters, UGA lost 8, UT loses 13. The players replacing UF’ starters DO HAVE a good bit of experience compared to those replacing the starters at UGA and UT.
UGA owns the overall series record vs. UF, so what, I doubt ANYONE here has seen a winning record vs. UF in your lifetime. UF has more National Titles than UGA does.

ga gator, those of us close to the program know the real story. First, the immediate goal is to secure and sign another outstanding recruiting class and then work out the details of the time between then and fall practice. Expect Coach Meyer to take strategic time away while still being involved with coaching spring ball and Friday Night Lights in July. Don’t look for him on the speaking circuit this year unless he decides to do one or two of them like maybe Atlanta Gator Club. Those decisions are yet to be made and may be somewhat fluid. But expect the assistant coaching staff to take alot more of the load, including Junior day and spring evaluations. Jeremy I think will be keeping an eye on this and will be prepared to step in if he does not think Urban is not taking the necessary steps. Shouldn’t be a problem though…

True this is the AJC Sports page but the powers to be there have made separate sections for UGA, Tech, Hawks, Braves, Falcons, High School with blogs for each section. Sometimes a blog for a specific team is placed in the main Sports section that has interest more so than other stories but they are usually placed under the heading of the specific team. So yes in a sense this is a UGA blog since it was linked in the UGA section. I for one welcome fans from other teams as they do bring different perspectives but the greater than though trash talkers should find another blog to post on. Maybe one that is from their home newspaper. I promise I wont jump on it any more than I jump on the Tech blog here in the AJC.

Someone hit a sore place on the underbelly of some of the Gator Fans. Meyer is a great coach, and has a great system. He has great players, a great fan base, and his team plays in the best division of the best conference in the NCAA. According to one of the bloggers, there is not less than a number 1 recruit playing at UF. The question would be, why would he even consider not coaching at UF? If UF wins the next 2, then they will pull even in the series as I have seen it in my lifetime of watching UGA football. No doubt they have dominated the Dogs since 1991. I hope you guys can stop the slurs at each other and talk about footbal or something more relevant. My question to you Gators is if your program is on top, and people like me are saying so, why are you on here running down UGA to try and make your case about UF, and the Mighty Gators.

DawgNation, we can talk series records all day and UGA is still ahead. I was born in 52 and in my lifetime UF is slightly ahead, but who cares. This is a AJC blog, not a UGA blog or a UF blog. I have gone to all the home UGA games with my girlfriend for the last 3 years and actually root for them except in Jax. I actually think the UGA pregame when they show Lindsey run and Tebow get sacked is quite amusing and was at the game when Lindsey made his historic run; was a great game although I didn’t think so at the time. My whole point is you love your coach and we love ours. Spurrier got into your heads and it continues still. I don’t think the UF fans would tolerate coaching that consistently lost to his main rivals and suffered home losses to Ky and Vandy; but that is UGA and it is none of our concern. Coach Richt is a fine man just as Tebow is and Meyer also, so let’s stop the name calling and act like adults.

Urban ain’t had a year better than Richt’s yet.
Richt has gone 13-1 winning the SEC. Big deal. Been there, done that.
Richt has won the SEC 2 times (interesting that when Meyer wins the SEC, Meyer is invited to the Natl Champ, when Richt wins the SEC, Richt is NOT invited).
2002, 2005, & 2007 were all Natl Champ years IF Richt coached at Florida or LSU. Since the uniform is red & black, they’re just “unofficial” Natl Champs.
Richt has done something Meyer, Saban, Miles, will never do:

January 24th, 2010

In 5 years, Meyer has ALREADY had 2 seasons when he’s been 5-3 in the SEC.

lovin the UGA love,
Though I wasn’t born in 52, my parents waited till 60, I as well could give two hoots about the past records. The beauty of college football is for the most part every 4 years things change. It is exciting to watch kids play a game they love and the desire they have to win. So no, I don’t care about the records either. I do disagree with you on the blog issue. If you want to talk about Braves baseball do you click on the Braves link or the UGA link? I come on here to read and talk about UGA football so fans from other schools who, as in your words, don’t act like adults want to spew their vile then find a blog that caters to their team and blast UGA all you want. Most just want to see how many people they get a rise out of anyway and have no knowledge about the subject of the story. Sir I won’t lie to you I don’t, nor will I ever, root for UF but I don’t go on to sites to bust their chops. I respect the accomplishments of even the most losing coach as they are doing something that most of us could never do and that is coach at that level. I can’t afford nor do I have the time to devote to going to the games but that doesn’t diminish my enthusazum for team I choose to support. I commend you and your girlfriend on the ability to be able to attend and I’m a little jealous that I can not be there in Jax for the UGA-FL game, but my memories of the Belue to Lindsey are as fresh as the day my new bride and I watched it from our apartment in Dahlonega while we were in college. Those are the moments that seal a fans loyalty. As far as coachs go I supported everyone fully and supported the changes that the AD had to make when changes were needed. I admire other coaches but some I don’t due to there actions on and off the field. I’m not sure if you were directing your adult comment to me or not but all you have to do is scroll back and read my past posts. I will poke fun when it is in fun but will not belittle anyone here.

Florida owns Georgia for the last 20 years, and will for the next 20 years with Meyer and top recruiting classes–that’s all that matters. Look for another blowout win by Meyer with Brantley in 2010—he’s got an NFL arm. Plus, UF will have more offense this year with a better running game and receivers. Defense? Tons of new talent coming up. Georgia may not win 8 games next year. Florida: another BCS bowl–they are starting to get routine!!!

Yeah right, keep dreaming. 1980 is the only one you didn’t have to share, we will give you 1942 as well because the UGA website claims that year as a title but you had to share that one with Wisconsin and Ohio State who did win the AP poll. 1927 there was 2 undefeated teams each with a tie and 2 other teams shared that title. 1946 was Notre Dame in each poll but one which had UGA so that is a shared title. 1968 Ohio State finished 10-0 and UGA was 8-1-2 and voted #1 in one poll so that is a shared title too but not really.

The gators will be good on offense in 2010 but somebodys got to have a clue scheme wise and playcalling. Urban Meyer is a great coach, there’s no disputing that fact. but i kinda believe when he says he will coach the spring game, there’s a couple of angles he’s playing. first is the obvious, recruiting. and honestly, i don’t blame him making it look like he’ll be there next year, heck, i’d do the same thing if there was a 1% chance that i’d be there in the fall. the second, is money. maybe his “parachute” wasn’t quite as big as he thought it was. and don’t say, “heck, he’s made millions”. when it comes to money to those kind of guys, there’s never enough.. so when he says he’ll “coach” the spring game, the translation is,,,”i’ll be there on the field walking around enjoying the scenery”….kinda like Bobby Bowden has done the last several years….

To all you dawg fans that think Richt is so wonderful.
Try this reality check, the past 5 years when he had to face Meyer:
2005-2009 Ga is 48 & 17, with a 26 & 14 record against the SEC
a 0.65 winning %
2005-2009 Meyer is 57 & 10 with a 34 & 9 against the SEC
a 0.79 winning %
Meyer has had three 13-1 seasons, Richt has had no 13-1 seasons, the past 5 years, he was 13-1 in 2002. In the past 5 years his best year
was 2007 with only a 11-2 record. (yes, I know that’s the only year he
has beaten Florida)
So when it comes to coaching and recruiting Richt can’t hold Meyer’s jock.

=============================
Apparently this guy doesn’t keep up with college football very closely. When FL loses the greatest running QB of all time, there’s no doubt they will throw the ball more when they have a starting QB who’s strength is his arm. In 2009 FL ranked near the bottom of all D-1 schools at pass attempts. Look for that number to go up next year. There’s zero chance FL runs the ball more next year. They’ll have their RB’s run more probably but overall it will be much more of a passing attack, and no one will be able to stop it.

==================================
This guy has no clue what Urban Meyer is about.

I think FL might only lose on the road next year to Bama. And if it’s a rematch in the SEC Championship look out. FL could shock the world next year and be right back at the top. Brantley will be the biggest difference.

Urban Meyer….have to admire the job at Florida….Tebow was such a great leader, no doubt Tebow was a big part of the success as well. Florida has what 7 players are so going into NFL draft….so next yr—will have new OB, new defensive and offensive players–so those players will be learning…think that Brantley can be pretty good from what I have seem of him….but remains to be seen particularly–his leadership skills…OB play and leadership is so vital….also 4 new assistant coaches—so those coaches will be learning the Meyer system….so expect some mistakes from new players and coaches…Expect Florida to be good…but not has great in past…don’t see them going undefeated…probably 10-2 or 9-3…depending on how well they play and injury factor.
Meyer health situation is at this point unknown wildcard….Having a medical background–I am interested in what is exactly wrong with him–stress–heart–bp etc…If something is so wrong that ambulance has to be called–you wonder….His indecisiveness..makes you wonder….it is I am resigning–health and family —-something sure scared him…—.then gets a little better—..then it is leave of absence for now and maybe back in fall—-then getting a little better— & now it is take a month or so off after signing day and before spring practice……He is addicted to his job and football for sure. Has He made the necessary adjustments to his life so his lifestyle–job–emotions will not aggravate the health problem. I am not so sure about this…..If he gets another health scare–what happens ??…but I do wish him & his family the very best regarding his health and life.
Thinking about UF & UGA game this year…My UGA Dawgs have a lot of questions to answer….but I give UGA a decent chance against them this year if things come together for Dawgs…UF will have to decipher new UGA 3-4 defense….not the same old CWM 4-3 defense that they have played against for many years now. Hoping that Grantham can really confuse Brantley & crew & our defense as really good day next yr in JAX. If so and our offense clicks…maybe just maybe a win.
Go DAWGS !!

Dawgs are frigging hilarious.
Let’s look at the situation:
1. UGa leads series 46-39-2. You DON’T have 47 wins, UF celebrated their centennial in football in 2006, how could we have played you in 1904? You played a TOWN team. Doesn’t count. BTW, we will be the first team to win 50 games in the series. That is a rock solid guarantee.
2. If UGa is going to count shared national titles, then we can too, so we have 5, same as you. 84, 85, 96, 06, 08. We shared titles in ALL those years. If you want to stick to REAL titles (AP, coaches, BCS), it’s UF 3-1 over Georgia. Soon to be 4-1, then 5-1, then 6-1, then, well, I think you get the idea.
3. Vince Dooley is the only UGa coach since the 50’s to have a winning record against UF. UF has had 5 coaches that had a winning record against UGa since that time. Seems to me the aberration was Dooley, while UF can beat UGa with just about anybody. Don’t expect another Dooley anytime soon, though. Heck, even if you got one, I doubt it would matter. UF is just on another level from UGa now.
4. As for 2010, UF returns 12 starters, including 4 senior offensive linemen, and 5 of the top 6 on a very tough D-line. Plus, we are loaded across the roster BEFORE the new recruits show up with a slew of top quality guys have been waiting their turn. And they have plenty of experience, as we rotate a lot of guys. So, those of you hoping to play a freshman team next year can forget about it. But hey, the best frosh will get PT. Way too much talent coming in for them not to see the field. The incoming class is the backbone of our upcoming NC’s in 2012 and 2013. Our 2010 NC will be won by the studs we already have n campus.
5. Brantley is going to be a GREAT QB for us. We have a loaded WR corps for next year, the blocking is in place, and Brantley has a cannon. And when teams back up to defend the pass, Rainey and Demps will gash them, Gilleslie and Moody will run over them.
6. Any Dawgs who think UGa is going to be close to as good as UF next year in any phase of the game are just deluding themselves. UF is going to be efficient on offense, nasty on defense, and has the athletes to dominate on special teams.
7. Anyone remember what UT did the year after Manning left? With a sturdy defense, an experienced O-line, and a redshirt Junior QB? Remember that? Look for UF to do the same.
8. As for the UGa-UF game next year, Dawgs won’t be within 4 touchdowns. We are simply that much better than you.
This is the Gator’s world. we just let the rest of you play in it.

It’s funny how Bama fans on here have an appreciation and respect for Coach Meyer and for winning championships and most Dawg fans on here don’t have a clue. I guess winners just think alike and I will give Bama all their due as Saban has built a championship program as well. Looks like there’s gonna be alot of crimson and orange and blue in the “Georgia” Dome for the next few years. And at the end of the day, all UGA fans will have is more insults to hurl and rumors to spread…

Florida isn’t a player any more. Georgia needs to worry about Bama and LSU, that’s why Richt went for those DC’s. He isn’t worried about the Gators. Gators will lose 4 games and go 5-3 in the SEC in 2010, like they have 40% of Meyer’s HC.

#1- the guy Saban wanted as his DC, but Grantham turned Saban down. Grantham has confirmed that he was offered the job by Saban and turned it down.
#2- the guy Will Muschamp recommended to Coach Richt for the Georgia job according to an interview with Grantham on georgiadogs.com

I write this only having read the first page of comments, mostly by ga gator and GaGator (how original). I feel like you guys could use a little bit of perspective from the other side of the stands in that God forsaken dump down on the St. Johns.
I really have no idea why Gator fans feel the need to come in here and pound their chest. Believe me, if any group of people on this earth understand Florida’s dominance of Georgia, it is the UGA faithful. As a UGA alumnus who graduated this past August, the losses hurt me more than most. I am fairly certain I take it harder than Richt does. In my short 23 years, Georgia has beaten Florida a meager six times, three of which I am actually old enough to remember.
The point of all this is really quite simple. I don’t care that we still hold the all-time record. That particular statistic, much like Herchel’s now-broken TD record, does nothing to make me feel better about the annual beatdown in J-ville. People that flaunt such records, which are at this point certainly fleeting, do not represent the majority of the fanbase.
To put it bluntly, we know Florida is better than Georgia. We get it. Is that what you want to hear? Well, there it is. This has not always been so, but it certainly is true right now. Furthermore, you’re correct about a lot of things. Ron Zook certainly showed us that it doesn’t really matter who is at the helm at UF. We are still in trouble when we head down I-95. We don’t need you here to point that out. We’ve had the snot beaten out of us too many times to forget it. 2002 still stings. But make no mistake, all things must come to an end. Florida’s reign over the east will too.
By the way, about that speculative ESPN article that proclaimed John Brantley the future 2011 Heisman trophy winner, I seem to remember a certain sports media outlet virtually guaranteeing that Tim Tebow would be the second guy to win more than one Heisman trophy. They also mentioned that Florida would bring home the SEC and BCS championship trophies at the end of the 2009 season, just like they predicted USC would in ‘05. And just to prove that I’m not biased, they predicted UGA to win it all in ‘08 (haha). BS flows from the fingers of all journalists. I wouldn’t exactly cling to that drivel as fact.

Look, I am aware that Florida has won some games of recent history against Georgia. Of course, the bigger picture is what really matters, we all know that. Georgia still owns the series at 46 wins and 39 losses. And with Florida in, what everyone is callign a rebuilding year, and Georgia bring back 10 of 11 starters on offense, and with the surprisingly bad hire of Martinez like Edwards, and the brilliant hire of the man Nick Saban wanted ot run his DC, it’s safe to say we all know what’s coming. Florida will now be the 4th best team in the SEC behdind Georgia, Alabama, and LSU. We all know it. Time will prove we are all correct. Speculation that Florida will nto score a touchdown on Georgia for the next 1 years, is a little overhyped. Of course, they iwll not score more than 14 again, but to say they will not score a touchdown is going a little too far.
Meyer--Mr. 5-3 in the SEC, 40% of the time
January 25th, 2010
7:52 am
If Meyer comes back, which he has a history of quitting every 1-5 years, so I doubt it, if he does, he has a 5-3 in the SEC year to look forward to. He will get killed by Alabama. LSU will win by a touchdown. And Georgia will win by 20. Florida just doesn’t have any serious defensive leadership and Meyer and Addazio are both clueless on the offensive side of the game. Edwards was ranked #24 in scoring defense–good news fr Georgia fans, he’s worse than Willie Martinez. Grantham was ranked #2 in scording defense for the Cowboys. Gator fans try and make excuses for their defensive coach’ inabilities. It’s sad. But the truth is–if he was any good–Saban would have brought him with him to Bama from Miami, or offered him the Miami DC job when Edwards was coaching lb’s at Miami. He didn’t. And Saban, after looking at Edwards, offered the Miami DC position ot Grantham, Georgia’s new DC.
Says ALL we need to know.
Urban Myth
January 25th, 2010
8:23 am
An Urban Myth #1:
Urban Meyer will be coaching in 2010 for Florida Gators.
Truth:
Meyer has never coached that long in 1 place in 24 years.
An Urban Myth #2:
When Urban Meyer says something, you can trust it.
Truth:
Meyer has made bizarre statements to Bowling Green and Utah players and recruits and the pattern continues at Florida, where Meyer promised to never quit as long as Fllorida would have him, quit, then “un-quit” to help recruiting, then lied when he said he drove himself to the hospital, when it was later proven he went to the Hospital in an ambulance.
Urban Myth #3:
Florida will be great because of a recruiting class.
Truth:
That didn’t help Notre Dame. Alabama only had 3 top 100 recruits in 2009, Florida had 9, Alabama dominated Florida in the SEC Championship. The Wall St. journal also did a study that proves there is no guarantee that top 100 recruits get you into a BCS game. Only 8% of BCS Bwol starters were top 100 recruits.
Urban Myth #4:
Florida will go 13-1 in 2010.
Truth:
Florida, under Meyer, has gone 5-3 in the SEC 40% of the seasons under his direction. Florida will play 4 top 25 ranked teams in a rebuilding year: Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and FSU. Florida will also play SC and Tenn. Losing 5 starters on defense, 6 starters on offense, 5 juniors leaving early for the NFL, 4 coaches quitting, does not bode well for what Florida insiders believe about 2010 for Florida.

This whole forest was nothing more than a motovational tactic to prepare UF for their bowl game. Both Urban Meyer and UF lied to the world about his retirement/leave of absense. So really is this any different than Mark McGuire’s lie about taking steriods? They both cheated the system. While Uban Meyer of UF specified dates or timelines it was inferred that Coach Meyer was taking his leave of absense after the bowl game and would be back on the sidelines in 2010. Because of this and UF has not issued statements to retract Urbans leave of absense the NCAA should view all contacts with recruits by Urban Meyer as violations.

one more thing….all of you morons thinking UF will be some 4+ loss team because they lose some players, I hope you realize that UF brings back 7 players on D who have started many games while UGA loses 6 starters, Bama loses 8, Tenn loses 6, LSU loses 5, MSU loses 4, FSU loses 5 USF loses 10, Vandy loses 5, and Tucky loses 4. So, why some of you think UF is the onlly team losing some players is beyond me. Also, see the recruiting over the past few years and you will see that UF will be replacing them with better talent.
Same goes for offense. UF loses one OL, one starting wr, qb, and a te…Brantley is better than at least 8 of the qb’s in the sec, including Murray/Gray/Hamburger and everyone in the SEC loses at least 4 on offense except for Ga, USC, and Bama and Ga will be starting a freshman qb more than likely.
So, Yes, UF loses a few pieces, but the depth/talent at UF is better than everyone on the schedule and everyone else loses players as well, but I am sure you want to ignore that.
As for t he coaches, FSU, UT, Ga, Kentucky, USF, all have coaching changes as well
Bottom line is 10-2 is worst case for UF……and I promise you one of those will not be to Ga. Ga will lose at least 5 again like I said they would before this year when you all jumped on MB for predicting 4. 5 at least this year for the mutts though

The best defense in the SEC wins. The best defense in the SEC now ranks like this:
#1- Georgia
#2- Bama
#3- LSU
#4- South Carolina
#5- Florida
George Edwards is the guy that helped Miami to #24 ranking in scording defense, Saban didn’t want as DC or bring to Bama, Grantham fired at Cleveland, and no one in the NFL picked him up before Saban got there.

Urban Myth:
5 Jrs who left early does not indicate a bad year for Florida in 2010
Truth:
North Carolina brought back their Jrs because those Jrs believed in their team.
Myth:
5 coaches quitting on Florida in 1 year means something positive
Truth:
When 5 coaches quit on Florida in 1 year, it’s not because of anything positve. Florida didn’t even beat a top 10 team in 2009, hardly a positive season. It’s not a good year to elave on if you’re a coach, better to elave after a Natl Champ type of year. The 5 coaches, who know Florida best, including the Head Coach, all chose 2009 to quit on Florida.

47&37, you are delusional….Ga will not go from one of, if not the worst D’s in the SEC to the best. Grantham isn’t as good as Monte Kiffen and Kiffen couldn’t do all that good with better talent at UT. It is also funny how you rank Bama at #2 when they will be replacing 8 or 9 starters on D, yet you think UF is falling off of t he map because they will have 4 guys starting who don’t have starting experience. Please. Your hatred is pathetic. Ga sucks and we all know it. You people in athens are just trying to hang on to something that was never there

Myth,
Juniors and coaches leaving to be promoted and be drafted early means that they are damn good and it isn’t about “believing in the team”
TRUTH
UNC didn’t have this problem because their coaches aren’t as good and the players didn’t jump because they weren’t high draft picks
TRUTH
If you don’t realize the above two statements are true, you are an idiot…

The reason I ranked them that way is because of the DC, Florida has the worst DC of the bumch, WELL behind Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and South Carolina.
Edwards was a part of a Miami defense in the NFL that ranked #24 in scoring defense, and #18 against the run.
Florida doesn’t have a coach on their team who can help a defense out.
If the Gators can’t beat a top 10 team with 22 starters returning and Charlie Strong, what makes you think they’ll win in a rebuilding year with Edawrds?
Not gonna happen.
Florida #5 ranked defense in SEC.

haha…you are clueless and an idiot…
UF lost to Bama who won the title after winning 20+ straight. You can’t win them all. They did go on to thump #5 Cincy. If you think that is an embarrassment, you are truly crazy.
UGA’s D was terrible and they lost their best 6 players and their backup DT so really their best 7 players. I hope you aren’t thinking that Grantham is going to be the savior. Ga’s problem is talent. If they mutts can’t win more than 8 games(while losing 5) with Curran, Evans, Jones, Miller, and their best 3 DT’s, what makes you think they won’t lose at least 5 without those guys?
Ga’s little two year run of winning nothing is over. You like like a douche running smack to a team who has beat you 17 of the past 20 while winning more games and NC’s than anyone in the past 20 years….
Hey, like I have said, think what you want if it makes your feel warm inside, but you look like a fool to any unbiased person

You are forgetting one thing. The SEC hasn’t really been that good except for Alabama, Florida and LSU. It’s been so long since Georgia won a National Championship that Bucky still thought he had a career as a baseball player, Larry Munson was not senile, Reagan was not YET President, Berlin Wall was still up, nobody had heard of Bill Clinton, Soviet Union was intact, the Iran Hostage Crisis was a recent event, Clemens 4 years from starting his MLB career, Marino was a sophomore at Pitt, Miami, Florida State and Florida had not yet won the first of 10 combined National Championships, no internet, computers were special, no cell phones, Botox Boy Richt was at Miami—Well, you get the drift. The Dogs are so irrelevant as to make Pee Wee Herman look like a Current sensation. God, I’ve been out of college for 30 years and Georgia–I mean Walker–won its last one a year after I finished.

LMAO at Bama 79…..they don’t get it though so you are wasting your time. I enjoy how they think a UF fan should feel ashamed for losing to Bama who won it all. I will be the first to say that Bama kicked UF’s ass, but that only means Bama was better prepared and the better team that day. Bama deserved it, but UF was still a really good team and it doesn’t discount the fact that UF absolutely dominated the pups as did a bunch of teams….LOL

Gator fans better get used to it–Bama and Saban are now in control of the SEC and will be winning titles for years. Saban will win more than Bear–bank on it. Bama’s expanding their stadium to be the best in the SEC and they have more millions coming in from boosters to buy the best of everything! Look for another easy SEC and national title in 2010–this bama team will be even better! Roll Tide!!!

RammaBamma, I think UF and Bama are the top dogs in the sec no doubt, but don’t get carried away. The same way UF won the NC and beat Bama in 08, Bama flipped the script in 09. 2010 could go either way, but don’t get caught up in the thinking that just because you won the last one, you will win the next one.
Congrats on the NC though….

Anybody else noticed how much Urban Meyer sounds like Charlie Weis these days? Braggin’ on his top recruting class.
Didn’t get Notre Dame better than 6 or 7 wins a year with all those top 100 recruits.
Bad sign for Gators when Meyer wants to talk about his recruting class.
Meyer and Weis–2 peas in a pod.

With a real D coordinator finally in place, the Dawgs will be back in 2010—bank on it! Florida’s way down on talent and coaching (edwards is not very good). UT will have nothing and Richt will outcoach the lightweight derek dooley easily! Look for UGA to upset florida in jacksonville and win the SEC east!!!

Relevant Dawg,
I think it will be based on how quickly the kids pick up on the new 3-4 and all its checks as well as how effective the coaches are on fundamentals with them. I see a problem at QB but I think the rest of the offense will be able to cover for him till, who ever it is, gets the program down. I can see the upset by the time Georgia plays Florida as long as the team learns to play error free or close to it. No more mental penalties and better ball protection and the Dogs have a chance for a SEC championship run. Key games as always getting past S.C. to get that first SEC game under their belts then Tenn, Florida, and Auburn. Play to abilities these kids posses then they do fine. Get to Florida with no loses then a legit shot at the MNC. But that is WAY to soon to start that noise.

I think some of this UGA stuff has to be tongue in cheek right? “Richt gets done what Meyer, Saban, and Miles cannot do. It’s about wins. Richt has 90. In 9 seasons. In the SEC. No one else does.” Is that serious? Does anyone at UGA really think anyone from any of those schools is jealous of UGA’s program? You know how many people can tell you what 90 in 9 is outside of UGA fans? None, that’s how many, zero. It’s impressive, but is there a trophy for it?

When did all most of the UGA posters become complete morons? Win something, beat a rival that’s not Tech, don’t settle on your 5th choice for dc, celebrate something more than a td and maybe we’ll take you sort of serious again. Talk about yesterday’s news.. like when it was in black and white, UGA is weak! I might be mistaken, but I think the Dawgs were just flagged for another personal foul!!

I must agree that Urban Meyer “owns” UGA just like most everyone else in the SEC. Vince Dooley retired at the end of the ‘88 season. Since that time there have only been 3 or 4 years that the UGA coach was considered a better coach than the UF coach and that was the Ron Zook years from 2002 thru 2004 and Zook even had a winning record against UGA. The point is that Florida just recruits better players than UGA. The series should be a little more even this coming season with Tebow’s departure. I think it will be much more evenly matched next year. No 41-17 or 49-10 years in the near future with or without Urban Meyer.
