Todd Grantham briefs the media, admits meeting Jessica Simpson. (Photo by M. Bradley)
Athens – Let’s stipulate that one or two folks on this planet care deeply about how the Dallas Cowboys fare on given autumn Sundays. But even at the highest level of pro football, there’s a difference in passion between that found in the college game, and this was reflected on, of all places, AJC.com.
A guy (blush) asked readers to submit questions for Todd Grantham. Within 12 hours came more than 350 suggestions. Yes, some were impertinent, but the majority were detailed and incisive, and that says all you need to know about the interest/scrutiny Georgia’s new defensive coordinator will encounter.
And Grantham, to his credit, welcomes it. (At least he did Friday, though it must be noted his first in-person media briefing came well before a Grantham-coached Georgia defense has lost a game.) “That’s the reason I wanted to take this job,” he said. “I understand the passion. I understand who Georgia fans want to beat and where they want to be. And I feel like we can achieve that.”
Grantham has spent the past decade working in the NFL. Not to go all Charlie Weis on you, but it’s clear Georgia’s new DC believes his new team will have a schematic advantage because of his background. Here, responding to a question submitted by Luke, was Grantham’s response about the ongoing quest of pro teams to exploit matchups, as opposed simply to playing a basic defense every down:
“The last 11 years I’ve been dealing with matchups, and that’s what you have to do in the NFL. You don’t get guys running free to the quarterback very often; the best you can hope for is getting a one-on-one. We’re going to find ways to make [opponents] in pass protection make blocks, whether it’s a back kept in or an offensive lineman.”
The 3-4 defense remains a relative novelty in collegiate circles, and that’s one reason Grantham considers it well suited to defuse exotic offenses. (See: Florida’s spread or Paul Johnson’s option. This question was offered by Chem.) “I don’t think there’s any question [the 3-4] can be better,” Grantham said. “We don’t have to declare our pass rusher until we see the formation. We can adjust.
“With the 4-3, you know the four guys who stick their hands in the dirt are going to rush. One of the things about the 3-4 is that you know one of those four [linebackers] is going to be coming 95 percent of the time. You just don’t know which one.”
Grantham has already gone recruiting — he passed his NCAA-mandated test, Steve Spurrier should know — but said Georgia isn’t suddenly in the market for every Grady Jackson lookalike of tender years. (This question was submitted by doodoo bailey and Suwaneedawg.)
“There are two types of 3-4,” Grantham said. “There’s the New England type, where you’ve got a big massive guy up front. We’re going to be a 1-gap team. In Dallas we had Jay Ratliff [a stripling at 303 pounds] make the Pro Bowl. We’ll have a standard [for nose tackles] as we go forward, but we also have to have position flexibility.”
Todd Grantham, you should know, is an impressive guy. He says much of what you’d expect — “We want to be physical and aggressive and relentless … We want the other team, when they get done playing you, not to want to play you again” — but says it in a way that makes you believe he can deliver. He made it known he expects UGA fans to deliver, too.
“I’ve heard [Georgia fans] bark when [a defender] makes a play,” he said, smiling. “Is that true? That’s my question to them.”
One thing more: The guy who asked readers to submit questions posed one of his own, this on a matter of global importance. While with the Cowboys, did Grantham meet Jessica Simpson?
“I did,” he said. Then, kidding, he pointed to reporters’ tape recorders on the table. “Turn those off.” Then this: “I can tell this little story. I was sitting in my office one Tuesday watching film [here he mimicked a guy reared back in a chair with a remote in his hand], and Tony [Romo, Simpson's former flame] walked by. He said, ‘Hi, Todd.’ Then someone else said, ‘Hi, Todd.’
“I’m like this. [Mimicking craning his neck around a corner.] It was Jess. Nice girl. Nice girl.”

Nice interview. Looks like the D will have some fire this year. Actually a plan to ATTACK? How long has it been. We might actually be able to use the GATA phrase again. Hopefully he will be able to recruit the players to that 3-4 D in a quick fashion. I still believe that we have unbelievable talent on defense that can be utilized more effecient.

You know there was so much made on local sports talk of Richt not getting the first three or four guys, particularly Smart. The implication being that it wasn’t such a great job. Was Saban Alabama’s first choice? Was Wyatt Earpp Dodge city’s first choice? Would Jessica Simpson be your first choice (who would be your first choice in fantasy land anyhow)?
Point is the man sounds serious, like bottom line serious knows what it’s going to take to be effective. He’s most likely sure to be here at least three years. It’s all talk at this point but he’s an awfully good talker.
Thanks for the insight Mark, like UGA 2010 said, I look forward to your column(s) everyday.

In any business, if you all have ever hired a candidate for a job, you put together a list of them. As the hirer, you know that you will hire only ONE candidate for that ONE JOB. With this is mind, you gather info on several candidates ( usually 4 or 5 ) and then you may in fact turn that over to a professional Search firm. Happens all the time. This is as common as water in the oceans.
Take Bama, if Saban left, are they out of the football business? Nope, they will go get a list and move forward. Same is true with assistants. To say otherwise illustrates the immaturity and frankly, IGNORANCE of most of the blogfgers on this site. Take Obama, he was initially one name on a complete list of presidential candidates. The electorate HIRED HIM and they will soon FIRE HIM. See??
You have to have several names for one position. To do otherwise is foolish and leads to failure, like Obama is now.

Florida-lost their OC last year 2008, their DC this year, their recruiting coordinator, and a head coach on a “leave of absence”. On offense they a Heisman trophy winner in Tim Tebow, they’re top 2 receivers in Aaron Hernandez and Riley Cooper. And on defense they’re losing Spikes, Haden, and possibly half they’re juniors!
But they’ll just reload right. I mean all of those players and coaches from those championship teams are TOTALLY replaceable. I mean Florida has so much talent, they won’t even need a coaching staff! Yep sounds like a team that is primed for a Championship to me!

Gatorman….keep dreaming…..your team is about to go down in a ball of fire this year. I predict at least four loses for the gators this season. I don’t care who your new coaches are or how great you think your recruiting class is…the gators are in for a long season.I’ve watched some of your recruits this year…..most of them are nothing more than show boat thugs.I’m still trying to figure out how they get into Florida. The majority of them barely got out of high school because of poor grades.Rumor has it that the NCAA is looking into the “special” classes that Meyer has created for his players to enroll in to ensure they stay eligible while in school.I hope Meyer comes back to coach…I want to see him cry and make excuses when Carolina, Alabama, Florida State and Georgia take the Gators to the woodshed. Its always fun to watch a pompous jerk get his just reward. The reason Florida lost so many coaches is because they all wanted to get away from Meyer. Since Tebow graduated they no longer had anyone there to make them look good and Meyer is notorious for taking credit for everything. So go wash your mullett and get your cut off jeans shorts ready Florida’s gonna need all the suport they can get this year.

My question is that if the 3-4 is as good as Grantham is leading you to believe, then WHY IS IT NOT USED BY MORE TEAMS ? Simply put, it is a defense, dependent upon the players that are trying to execute it. If they do their job, then the 3-4 will be good. If not, then…. It will be worth watching to see which team busts your bubble first. That also goes for GT, but their DC has the experience teaching it to COLLEGE athletes, and that might make a difference. You have to TEACH college players. The pros, YOU SHOW, because they make more money than the coaches.

No problem. Your Waterloo is just down the road, my scaly friend.
You will have to totally change your offense for Brantley. The spread that Tebow ran is going away.
You have absolutely no proven receivers on your roster. This isn’t speculation. This is a fact.
Your offense has to be re-established. It will take time. The big, bad gator machine will not just keep on bulldozing over everything in it’s path like you and your fellow gator fans have come to expect.
Defense is where you are just flat missing too many parts to keep the motor running. This too is a fact.

Yes, yes, we do bark for defensive plays. Welcome, CTG, to Dawg Nation! Woof!
I like everything I’m hearing. The 4-3 is great for stopping a power running game, which we still did reasonably well in 09. (Reason #1 why I thought we could beat Tech? By shutting down the dive play.) But offenses have adjusted. The 3-4 gives you more adaptability, more mobility to stop sophisticated passing offenses, spread offenses, etc. And if you’re playing a power running offense, you can still load the box.

The only question in my mind now is how soon Murray will develop to his full potential. With King and Ealey running efficiently, it will take a lot of pressure off of him. I can’t think of another tandem that compares to them. Has anyone heard anything about Dontavious Jackson? He’s another badass RB that came to UGA but hasn’t made much noise yet. Could he be the next “under the radar” RB like Moreno was? Carlton Thomas has proven to be a nice playmaker when given the opportunity. The WR situation is also incredible. Simply loaded. TE’s as well, so I don’t see a weak spot in the O other than a redshirt freshman at QB. But that might not be a problem given that he’s been here for a year already to learn the offense (not to mention the fact that he had 50+ FBS scholarship offers). The future looks awfully bright for the Dawg Nation now that we’ll have a great defense again.

Grantham said he had several other inquiries to come back to the college level during the past 10 years, but it never felt right. Georgia was different.
He said he first had contact with Mark Richt about the job during the week of the Cowboys’ game against New Orleans (which was Dec. 19, by the way) and the two talked on and off from there.
Lakatos said Grantham called him in December to let him know that it was a possibility and Grantham asked him then whether he’d be interested in a job at Georgia, should things work out.

Go to an AJC sports blog at this time last year and you will read the same crap from Georgia fans then….how Georgia is going to take down the Gators this year. In fact, you can go back 17 out of the last 20 years and read the same crap from Georgia fans. I am intrested to see if CTG plays situational defense and adjust his lineup during the game. I can see inserting Washington or Houston or both in passing situations. The Cowboys often send rushers out of the three point stance. Pro players are so specialized and pro coaches are always looking for a matchup advantage. I don’t think we will see the same eleven guys lined up in the base defense like we did with Willie. IMO, the 4-3 is one reason you so seldom see option offenses in the pros. Most spread team QBs only read the rush end and the free safety, a defense that could rush anyone at any time has to make spread QBs nervous. I would also like to see more movement from the UGA LBs before the snap. I want to see LBs flip flop, fake the blitz, and the free safety moving around. Anything to get into the QB’s head.

As for the defense…not to worry. We’ve tons of good young talent stockpiled from the past two classes. They’ll have one more year of grits and groceries down their necks, a year of weight lifting, a year of mat drills, one more year of practice under their belts.
This new staff needs to drive them ’til they drop and grind into ‘em that snarling, bloody forehead, Junkyard Dawg heritage and attitude we all long to see.

I think Todd Grantham is going to be the most popular man in Athens because the defense can only get better. My biggest concern is I hope he is a hell fire and brimstone kind of guy? WM wasn’t a genius but the biggest problem with the entire UGA football team was they played an emotional game with zero emotion. I want a coordinator that acts like his hair is on fire.

GA Gator:
Did YOU ever stop to think that Richt and his coaching staff, along with Grantham, thought about the issue of whether GA currently has the personnel to run Grantham’s 1 gap 3-4 defense before hiring Grantham to make such a change this year? The defense may have to be tweaked in some respects depending upon current personnel, but that would be true for any year.
Do you think that FL will continue to run the QB like Tebow is on campus without regard to whether John Brantley can run the ball like Tebow? Of course, Meyer will have to adjust his offense to fit the personnel he has on campus this fall. The real question is whether Meyer has finally found a RB who can carry the ball…… that’ll be essential for FL this fall unless Urban is in denial and tries to run Brantley like Tebow down after down!!

It is always great to see the idots comparing the two programs. I love my dogs, but the Gators have dominated the series as of late. It wasn’t that long ago when Ray Goff’s dogs were shutting down Emmett and the Gators. . The Hillbilly Genuis, changed that, and there was a point that UGA about turned it around under Donnan, but throw a game Quincy gave one away, and then we were back on Gator Skid Row again. Right now, UF is the premier program in the country, make no mistake about it. SOS did it, and UM tweeked it to that state. Most programs can’t stay up that long, and UF may be on a slight downstroke right now, but they are still the class of the country in football. The record speaks for itself.
UGA is in the top 10 for programs, but the 3 years of Willie, and company hurt. We will see what happens next. Based on history, and players, I’d say look for an 07 type UGA season. If you can run 5-7 minute drives, it makes up for alot of short comings on the rest of the team.

Todd Grantham who is on campus 22 January 2010 quote : ““Right now, take the players that you have here, the players that are committed and you basically rank those players. I think it’s important that you find ways to get your best players on the field. That’s what we’re going to do over the next few months. We’re going to be evaluating the players that we have right now. We’re going to be teaching them the system. We’re going to work to find out the things that they do well and find ways to put players in position to be successful to make plays. Ultimately, you have to make plays on defense and to do that you have to have guys that are playmakers. I think you do that by getting your best players on the field. I think player evaluation is critical.”
He is NOT Redshirting 9 of the Very Best Top Football Players, and then go 8-5 without them. That strategy has not worked. Oh, it’s worked if you like looking at the won/loss record of LSU and Florida in the same timeframe Coach Richt has been here, and see that BOTH of them have been BETTER than us. It’s worked if you look at Alabama and see that they too have passed us by. That’s 4th in The SEC for UGA. It’s worked if that is what you want. What you settle for. To be 4th in your own conference, never mind that during the Coach Richt Era not only are all these SEC teams a LOT BETTER than we are, but that on the National Stage so too have all these teams been BETTER in the Coach Richt Era than we are :
Southern California
Texas
Florida
Alabama
LSU
Boise State
Oklahoma
Ohio State
All of these teams are not only FAR MORE SUCCESSFUL overall than we have strapped ourselves with in the Coach Richt Era, but every single one of them except for Boise State has WON IT ALL.
3 out of 20, that’s what we’ve done in the our own Division of our own Conference, never mind the National Stage after you get out of your own Conference. Out of our own Division of our Conference we are 3 wins out of 20 games against Florida.
They have totally killed us recruiting. Truth be told they have recruited the very top football players from the state of Georgia. They always have. They own us.
They own Coach Richt at 2-7 for us.
Todd Grantham understands that we UGA fans want more than that. We want to be better than that.
He knows we are out-recruited in our own state.
He knows we have left 9 of not our best players but 9 of the best players in all of America on the Sidelines, Redshirted in a season we sorely needed them at 8-5 with horrid losses to horrid football teams like 7-6 UNRANKED both Kentucky and the vols.
And, we tried to Redshirt Washaun Ealey the Number 11 Tailback Nationally we recruited last year too. Until the 3rd quarter of the 5th game, then we ripped the Redshirt Off Washaun Ealey.
Todd Grantham will tell Coach Richt and Mike Bobo to get Washaun Ealey on the field in Game 1 last year, were he here. That he is a hard player for his players to stop.
And, he wouldn’t be looking at Richard Samuel and Caleb King as our Saviors when it is obvious to everyone you have to play favorites to put those 2 ahead of Washaun Ealey. The season before this, Richard Samuel and Caleb King proved that they don’t catch the ball well, don’t block well, do not hold on to the football well, and do not run well. Not as well as Washaun Ealey.
Todd Grantham also knows that UGA has sent our Secondary Defensive Backs to the NFL for the time when he got started in the NFL 11 years ago, and that we don’t have those players on this Defense this year, or last year or the year before.
Once we once had, we haven’t had.
Knowshon Moreno Redshirted.
So we only get to see him 2 years.
The best Running Back we’ve had in 3 Decades.
And, we Redshirt him.
B.S.
Leading the nation in Turnovers and Penalties and Arrests/Suspensions EVERY YEAR since the very day DJ Shockley graduated with Honors in 2005. That’s 5 years ago now.
3 of the last 4 years, UGA Bulldogs have no business claiming that we are even deserving of being a Ranked Team in the Final AP Poll Top 25.
3 of the last 4 extremely disappointing seasons, because our Offense sucks.
We don’t evaluate talent well.
We don’t.
We needed Todd Grantham. I hope he stays here a long time for us before becoming a head coach elsewhere. I still do not think we have any strategy whatsoever on play calls, either. But, I am certainly aware of the fact that he ranks players and figures out how to get the best players on the field making plays.
That part I am totally clued into.
We have NOT done that.
We are going to have a very successful year for Todd Grantham. He is a smart guy. He can look at this Defense as well as anyone can. It takes just a few moments to realize that UGA did not have good players in the Secondary last year. Those guys are all gone.
We Redshirted 9 of the Best Players in the Nation.
That doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out, either.
We have a hell of a lot of Number 7 in the Nation Best Recruiting Classes, 10 in a row now according to Both Rivals and Scout.com.
We have, in short, a not solid or very capable starting 11 on Defense, we have in fact a Great Defense this coming season.
And, the 2 Best Kickers on one team in America. We just have a weak offense.
Todd Grantham came here because he considers this an opportunity in his career. He is not an UGA man. He is a football coach.
Why did he come here ?
To teach us with 11 years NFL experience that which we have demonstrated we have no clue about.
Rank them, get them on the field, let them make plays.
B.S. on this Redshirt our best football players and then go out and embarrass yourself against lousy 7-6 UNRANKED Kentucky and lousy 7-6 UNRANKED vols.
Kick-Off Coverage should be Todd Grantham’s JOB ONLY.
We still have to do something about the damn offense. We cannot waste these years of Todd Grantham with the FAILED OFFENSE of Mike Bobo. He doesn’t even try to make 1st down on 3rd and 10. No effort. He has beat NO Final AP Poll Top 10 team, losing EVERY GAME. He is 5-6 vs the Final AP Poll Top 25. And, worse yet he has even LOST to FOUR (4) UNRANKED TEAMS in the Final AP Poll Top 25.
We cannot line up, call a play without a penalty, and even execute the poorly designed play the players are not coached how to execute without a Turnover Fumble or Interception, never mind the play was never designed to be a play to gain 10-yards on 3rd and 10. And, under Mike Bobo, we do THAT EXACTLY against Top 10, against Top 25 and against UNRANKED teams.
So, do NOT get all hyped up on your Kool-Aid and tell me we are WINNING ANY DAMN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP when after this season we LOSE 14 seniors and another half a dozen Juniors. Beat Florida. B.S. Now I return you to your FEEL GOOD LIARS hyping the crap out of Coach Richt’s coaches on the Offensive Side of the Ball where they have done NOTHING. DISNEYdawg RED DOG 77.

Grantham’s 3-4 will shut down the spread—mark it down! Richt and Damon Evans have clearly told Grantham his #1 job is to beat florida’s O. With Grantham’s aggressive D and blitz packages, Brantley will be running for his life, throw some INTs and UGA wins that game easy–bank on it! With a real D coordinator in place, Ga takes control of this series. Florida lost a ton of talent from their players and coaches, and their new D coordinator is worthless—he was a bust with the dolphins and will not stop the Georgia offense!!! GA 37 Fla 19 — you heard it hear first–the Dawgs are back!!!!

Mark:
More than any sports journalist I read, you write and think to the moment, the immediate rather than to the bold of the whole (e.g., your infamous pronouncement regarding the Braves and the 1927 Yankees after the Braves swept the Yankees in the first two games of the World Series, the recent burial of the georgia tech basketball coach after the loss to UGA and the annointment of Coach Fox prior to the terrible bench coaching in the second half of the MSU game).
Although I believe Coach Richt has hired a good defensive coordinator who will be successful in Athens, let’s not get caught up in the moment. This is an NFL coach who has never coordinated a college defense. Our new coordinator has hired a defensive coach who has never ventured beyond the northeast. Does that mean they can’t be successful? Certainly not and they will be but there is going to be a learning curve that cannot be mastered in practice and discussion. For that reason, I expect the early part of next season to be a struggle for both of them. This will most likely be a contributing variable in tough, early games against South Carolina and Arkansas. If it is, hold your fire – don’t write to the moment but sit back and wait for the body of work to form.

Bill Parcells favors the 3-4 defense in Miami. The Gators new defensive
coordinator is from the Miami staff and very familiar with the 3-4.
I don’t know why you think Grantham is the best thing since sliced bread and his
3-4 is better than anyone else’s and now you are going to dominate the Gators.
WRONG, players win games and schemes DON”T, and you have a long way to go before you get back to the Dooley years. As long as you keep Richt around, you may beat the Gators once every 10 years or so.

3- When Saban left Miami, he didn’t offer the Bama DC or his LB position to Edwards

The reason the NFL doesn’t like Florida QB’s is because they run a system offense. It’s not pro style. Meyer had Leak win a Natl Champ, but couldn’t start in the NFL. Meyer’s Ytah QB was much more productive than Tebow. It’s just because of the system. Any QB can succeed in that system, it’s like Hawaii ran a few years ago when they set all those records and then Georgia killed them in the Bowl game.

randdumb, Channing Crowder (dolphin LB) who played for Strong at UF and Edwards at Miami says that Edwards is better than Strong. It’s not reality to compare Edwards with Miami talent who coaches Linebackers to Grantham who coaaches D line with Cowboy talent. Neither called the defense so I think all of us could be in for a surprise. Granthams stint as DC in Cleveland didn’t work out too well with Cleveland talent and I wouldn’t think that would be fair to compare that to what he did at Dallas.

GaGator, gagator, or whatever ID you’re using this week…
There is no “1980 bandwagon”, ok? I have been a fan since I was a kid. Sat there and suffered through Sugar bowl losses to PITT when guys like Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino were playing. Watched the NC game against Penn State as a student. (Class of 84).
I’ve probably been a “bandwagon” fan longer than you’ve been alive. And I’ve probably donated more money to this program than you make in a year.
Here are the facts. Until 1990, the year that they hired Spurrier, the University of Florida was not much better than Kentucky or Vandy. They were pretty much SEC doormats. They have greatly improved since then, It’s something all UF fans should be proud of.
But these things run in cycles, my friend.
NO team is going to always dominate the others in the SEC. There has never been nor will there ever be any such thing as a dynasty. If there was, it would probably be Alabama. They have won more SEC titles and National Championships than any other team in the league. But they too have just started to come back around to winning only recently. Until this year, they hadn’t won since 1992.
Cycles, pal. Cycles.
UF is headed for a down period, and is re-building. Tenn is re-building. Carolina is well, Carolina. UGA is due for another up turn. Bama will be our biggest obstacle for a while.
Argue all you want. See if you can yell a little louder. Brag about your good fortunes the last few years. You’ve earned it.
It will not change the facts.
See you in October.

PowerDawg, unless you were born before 1952 you havent been a fan longer than me and I have used the same for over a year. I agree with most of what you said though, with the talent in this league, no one is on top for long. I sat through many games being abused by UGA fans and unless you went to games before 1990 you’re not aware of that. Before 90, UGA was in UF’s head until spurrier reversed it. Many games since 90 UGA has had the better team, but was out of it mentally. Until you get a leader who can reverse the psycological part of the game it will continue; perhaps that is what Grantham is trying to do now. I go to all of the UGA home games, so maybe I will see you before Jax. Go Gators, Go Dawgs(except in Jax) and go SEC.

Georgia’s football team must beat Florida, 2) on election day in November, every member of the House of Representatives needs to be voted out of office, and 3) Georgia’s football team must be playing for the SEC championship in December. If numbers 1 & 3 don’t happen, the entire football coaching staff needs to be let go, including Damon Evans. If number 2 doesn’t happen, our country is in deep peril.

Mike, come on dude, get serious. You have a better chance at #2 then #1 & #3 and I am a bulldog fan through & through. They are 2-3 years away from being a real contender for the BCS and if they are by chance this year in the top five? Then Richt should be annointed coach of the decade after the season. Let us all stay real on our expectations.

Gators lost 5 KEY starters on defense, and 6 KEY starters on offense. 5 coaches quit because they didn’t think the Gators would be good in 2010.
Georgia lost 6 starters on defense, and 1 starter on offense. NONE of the coaches VOLUNTARILY QUIT because they thought Gergia would have a bad year in 2010.
Any RATIONAL person can see that the guy Saban asked to be his DC must be a lot better than George Edwards, who coached with Saban, and Saban did NOT ask Edwards to be his DC.

A lot of teams will beat Florida this year, it’s a rebuilding year for Florida, Florida loses 4 games a season every other year. 1 big year, one down year. 2 out of 5 of Meyer’s seasons have been 4 loss seasons.
ESPN & SI ranked Florida #1 as the biggest loser for 2009 of players.
No one ranks UF pre-season top 10. Wonder why if they’re going to be SO DOMINANT?

The SEC is about defense.
Edwards at Miami had one of the worst defenses in the NFL in allowing points and against the run.
Grantham at Dallas was top 4 in both defensive scoring and against the run.

Relax everyone…all this just in fun but I have a few questions.
As far as next year, why do most of the so-called experts have UF rated top 10 – or at least top 20 and UGA isn’t even ranked?
Why is the turnover for UF coaches the result of promotions while UGA’s is the result of overdue firings?
How many in the know wouldn’t pick Brantley over whomever is the QB for UGA?
Who’s been winning in recruiting the last 4 yrs and especially this year?
UF is losing 5 on Offense and 6 on Defense but the replacements are high quality. We may not be in the mix for the NC in 2010 but we’ll be one of the favorites in 2011 with the talent plus experience.
Any experts picking same for UGA?
Didn’t think so…3-17….time to pick another rivalry because this sure isn’t one.

They willl lose to:
Georgia, LSU, Bama, Tenn, and SC.
They might also lose to:
Miss St., FSU, and Kentucky
I see a 7-5 year, but that’s pretty good considering their schedule is like Georgia’s 2009 schedule.

By the time UGA plays Florida, the only game Georgia will not be favored to win is Arkansas. If UGA wins that one, then UGA should be undefeated entering the Florida game. If UGA beats Florida, then the next tough game will be Ga Tech.
Georgia has 2 weeks to get ready for Ga Tech in 2010, and we have one that one 9 out of 10 times.
So, it’s Ark & Flordia we have to get past to get ot the SEC Champ. Then beat Bama to get to the Natl Champ.
Esiest schedule Georgia has had since Richt’s been there.

It’s called SPECULATION. Your team is more highly ranked because you were either #1 or #2 for most of the year. And you finished in the top 5. Where else would they rank you this pre-season?
Many of the so-called experts base their GUESSES on info coming out of Vegas. Rankings, polls…It’s a numbers game, dude. Don’t make it out to be something it ain’t. Do you know how many times they have actually been right? How many teams actually finished where they started? Not many, dude. Check it out. Going wire-to-wire is very rare.
If ANY team has a chance this year, it’s Alabama. And I don’t think they will. The SEC is just too tough year to year.
Even the most knowledgable of the experts, the Coaches Poll, are just giving their best guesses. It is still just hypothesis.
Florida’s QB situation is the same as ours. Unknown. Lot’s of talent, but completely unproven.
That’s why they play the games.
And as far as those “in the know” about Brantley, here’s a question for you. If he’s so great, and so much better than Murray, then why did UF recruit Murray so hard? They have other QB’s on the current roster, but they wanted him. Why?
You know why. And he’s going to show you in October.
All of these over-inflated heads in Gatorville will soon realize they have sprung a leak. Better go buy a patching kit, you’re going to need it.

Listen folks, whether you run a 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, or wide tackle/ split 6 as Erk did, it all comes down to fundamentals, execution and tackling on defense. I would love to see all these experts trying to comment on Erk’s defense it would really be funny to hear the pros and cons from the internet coaches!!! Now all the “coaches” want to talk about is strength/conditioning and the offense. Know that CMR and staff know EXCATLY what they are doing. Support or find another team to gripe about!!!

The Gators will sorely miss departed quarterback Tim Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner. But sophomore John Brantley might be a better fit for Florida’s high-octane passing attack. Brantley will lead the Gators to an SEC East title in 2010, and then he’ll win the Heisman Trophy as a senior in 2011.
