Georgia Tech is close to an agreement with former Virginia head coach Al Groh to become the Yellow Jackets’ defensive coordinator, according to someone with knowledge of the situation. Tech coach Paul Johnson and Groh have discussed the position and plan to meet again, possibly before the weekend is out.
Asked if he and Groh were indeed close to an agreement, Johnson said Saturday: “No. Not really. I don’t know how this [talk of Groh] got started.”
Johnson attended Tech’s basketball game Saturday — the Jackets upset No. 5 Duke at Alexander Memorial Coliseum — and responded to the question at halftime.
Final agreement would likely come only after Johnson and Groh meet face to face.
Tech announced Friday that Dave Wommack, who served as Johnson’s defensive coordinator his two seasons here, would not be retained. Rumors had already begun to swirl about Groh, who was fired after eight seasons at Virginia, being in line as a replacement. Groh has been a defensive coordinator in the NFL.

Any of you Dawg fans that think Kirby Smart actually coaches Alabama’s defense are delusional. During the championship game Alabama called a timeout on defense ,Saban coached the defense ,Smart had his hands in his pockets playing pocket pool. I guess with GA’s long history of outstanding pocket pool players Pollock,Greene,Stafford,Cox he would fit right in.

Glad to hear Groh is coming to Tech. I hope we get someone as good or better! It’s good for the state for Tech to do well and I think Johnson is set to make sure he corrects any obvious weaknesses before going into next season. Whether we get Smart, the Dallas guy, or someone none of us have heard of, I see good things ahead in our rivalry. I do acknowledge that Johnson did a better job of not waiting too long to pull the trigger on definite weak spot than CMR did. But, I still take CMR any day of the week even if Tech has the hot coach right now.

Decent hire, better than Wommack. As usual, the Tech fans on here are talking about the one or two victories over Georgia in the past, or the possibility of one or two more victories in the upcoming decade. Everyone has to have a dream I guess.
I will take a DC holding a clipboard for Nick Saban over a coach who defenses were only good back before the spread offenses started hitting college football. Groh is a good coach, but his philosophy has always been to let the other team come to him (bend but don’t break). I am just not sure that is good enough with all these high-powered offenses in the college game today .. it sure didn’t work for Martinez.
Do you think Groh is coming to Tech to learn? No. then why do you think UGA wants to bring Smart in to learn? Smart wouldn’t be coming to UGA to learn, if he comes, which I seriously doubt at this point. Smart would be coming here to show what he has already learned, and hopefully build on that.

UGA. You do not want Smart. Saban runs the defense at Alabama same as he did at NFL Miami & LSU. You want to hire a DC who has been there.
Smart is a DC in Name Only (DCINO for you political types).
You want the guy at the NFL Dallas team.

Is Groh really the best Tech can do?
January 9th, 2010
7:21 pm
Why on earth would Al Groh be a great hire? Guys, he was the head coach and the defensive guru (remember, his vaunted 3-4 defense) this year of a team that in losses gave up 26 (to William & Mary!!!!!), 30, 38, 34, 28, 52, 34 and 42. He may not have been the defensive coordinator but he was the man who installed the defense, picked the players for his system and is ultimately responsible for the game results. This is Willie Martinez-like. He followed a pseudo-legend in George Welsh at his alma mater and could not build the program successfully. He never won more than nine games as a head coach anywhere and his career record is under .500. In fact, Georgia’s total yards allowed last year was statistically better than Virginia’s and Tech’s ranking in the same category was just two spots below Virginia. Virginia gave up 358 yards of total offense per game this year and Georgia Tech gave up 360. I just don’t see how there is much of an improvement. Sure, the guy was a two-time coach of the year in the ACC but look at the two years that he won: 2002 and 2007. Those two years the team finished 9-5 and 9-3. Good records, but worse than Tech’s record this year. And, take out the 2007 season and Virginia’s last tree season records were 5-7, 5-7, and 3-9. Yikes. I would think that Tech would be good enough at this time to find a candidate that wasn’t just fired at his alma mater for not performing up to the standards of a school that has a weak football history. I know that he is considered a so-called “genius” but I just think that Tech can do better than to troll the ACC has-beens for coaching talent.

To “we run this state,” GT had 4 victories over teams that won their bowls this year, a victory over a 10-win team, two 9-win teams, a victory over a team that was #4 and finished #10, and a huge road win. We lost to two teams that were both ranked in the top 10 at one point in the year and our archrival. No excuses, you beat us there.
By comparison, UGA only beat Tech (and according to most UGA fans we’re overrated and irrelevant). I guess the Auburn win was respectable. UGA only beat one team that won a bowl game this year – and that was in OT. That’s sad.

For all you Tech fans who keep talking about how most Georgia fans didn’t attend the school, settle down. I attended both Tech and UGA and they were both great experiences. But, these are both state schools and every person who pays taxes in this state personally pays for part of the educational experience that those who attend state schools receive. These tax payers are owners of the school and can cheer for whoever they want to cheer for. I know a lot of people who did not graduate from either school who are bigger fans than people I knew in college. In fact, some of the largest Tech fans are ones that never went to school there but have attached themselves to the school based on its academic excellence, sports tradition and location in Atlanta. In fact, we are all more allowed to be fans of the Georgia State teams and Kennesaw State teams and Southern Polytechnic State University teams because we help fund the school. We should have much more ties to all of our college teams in Georgia than our professional teams. Yet we all say things such as “I hope the Braves do well this year. We look good on paper.” When, in reality, they don’t belong to us half as much as these college teams do. We don’t own an ounce of the Hawks, Falcons, or Braves (unless we are stockholders of the conglomerate that owns the Braves) but all of us who pay taxes have contributed a little piece to every state school in Georgia.

Now, trash talking aside, I think that having Groh on the flats helps us beat at least one of Iowa, Miami, or UGA with the staff we had this year – maybe two or even all three. That means he makes us better. I believe that he will help develop our existing players into better players. Also, at his age, he’s probably not looking for another gig; so it will be coach as long as he wants to.
If we’re able to get Groh, I think it would almost offset the players we’re going to lose to the NFL this year. I really look forward to watching Tech next year.
With all the talk of DC, let’s not forget what CPJ did on O at Navy. From year one to year two, they scored 10 more ppg. From year two to year three, they scored 11 more ppg. GT scored 11 more ppg from year one to year two. Improving upon the nation’s #11 scoring offense slightly and improving our defense slightly could be the difference between 11-3 and 13-1 or 14-0. It keeps getting better for GT.

Bill… you said that UGA fans were morons for believing that Smart was a good Def. Coord. at Alabama. You said that Saban coaches the defense. Bill are you on staff at Alabama?, are you on the team?, are you the P.R. man for Alabama?
So how do you know who coaches the defense! I do have a friend, Lance Thompson, that has coached with Saban at two schools. And that would be L.S.U. and Alabama before moving to UT this past year.In fact,he was recruiter coord. and LB coach. He has told me and other friends that Saban is in on the gameplan but lets his coaches coach! And that the def. coaches, primarly the def. coord., calls the plays. And if you watch the game you see Smart calling the plays!
So Bill I know techies are known for talking before they know the facts, but you look like the moron now! You would be better served to stick to whatever you do good! It cetainly is not football!

I was talking to a Dallas Cowboys fan before Wommack got fired and was saying we definitely need to do something different on D. I even mentioned the 3-4 alignment. With TJ Barnes, Logan Wall, Jason Peters and JC Lanier at 3 positions then all those DE’s we recruited last year, Izaan Cross, E Dieke, Ebinewe etc.. to play the outside positions (kind of like Jason Taylor playing one of these spots on the Dolphins (he was a DE)). Then the middle will just be played by our normal LB’s. I like the alignment as a change of attitude and as a way to get more size on the field at one time to stop the run. Hopefully that will help our secondary.

I don’t care who we hire. Our D can’t get any worse and new blood (whether its Groh) will spark new life into a pathetic D. And for those who say the option doesn’t work….GT adjusted and outgained Iowa by 180 yards in the 3rd quarter alone. GT had chances to win but didn’t get it done. It was NOT b/c of the option. It was b/c of poor execution and stupid penalties/turnovers/missed FG.
You are pathetic to think the option won’t work. An ACC title, BCS birth, and consecutive season where we rolled up 20 plus points on the VAUNTED UGA..and finished 2nd in total rushing offense in the NATION…I’d call that success. THose who say it won’t work have never played a down of football in your lives. PERIOD. GO back to wearing your walmart UGA jerseys you bunch of bandwagon armchair quarterbacks. Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville has been named the next football coach at Texas Tech, the school announced Saturday.
His deal is for five years and in the range of $2 million a year, a source told ESPN.com’s Chris Low.
“It’s great to be back in the game again,” Tuberville told ESPN.com’s Ivan Maisel when reached on his cell phone in Auburn, Ala.
Texas Tech made the offer, and Tuberville accepted, a little before 2 p.m. EST.

There appears to be more idiots on both sides blogging today than usual. The clean old fashioned hate seems to have turned into simply newly fashionable hatred and irresponsibility – on both sides. I hope Groh is the answer for the Jackets and I hope that we land Kirby and takes the Dawgs to the next level in the SEC and NC. It would be great to have two great teams representing the state of Georgia – sort of like Florida had a few years back with UF, FSU, and UM. We certainly have enough talent in state. Let’s compete on the field and enjoy some good natured ribbing, but the hatred shows a lack of class and dishonors your school – that’s for both sides. If you can’t represent your school with class then you are dishonoring that same school. Go Dawgs!

http://www.tidesports.com/article/20100109/NEWS/100109537/1011?Title=Smart-offered-UGA-job
Following Alabama’s win over Texas, UA head coach Nick Saban made some general remarks about losing assistant coaches that would suggest he would not be thrilled if Smart were to accept a coordinator’s job elsewhere.
“I’m always happy and interested for our coaches to be able to advance professionally,” Saban said Friday, “especially if it’s a professional advancement in terms of a guy being a coordinator who can go be a head coach in a situation where he has a chance to be successful.
“I’m not pleased when guys make lateral moves because it’s a little bit human nature to think – like my dad used to say, the grass is always greener on top of the septic tank. You always think it’s better someplace else. You kind of let your ego get involved and you make moves that you shouldn’t make that really aren’t in your best interest from a career standpoint. So I’m not happy when guys do that. But anybody on our staff who can move up, we would like to help them do that.”

Groh would be a solid hire. If he can DC for Parcells, who defines the word demanding, not much else needs to be said. Tech had some red shirts on some really good talent this past year and Groh should have a solid core to work with.
To ‘Not a Good Choice’ if you aren’t sold on the option what is your alternative ? If Tech can develop a passing game to go with it, it’s going to be incredibly hard to stop. Admittedly, Nesbitt struggles with his passing. Poor mechanics and accuracy. It really limits things. Hopefully the future produces an accurate passer to supplement the running game (maybe JN will improve in the passing game). A clone of Tracy Ham would be nice. Many people forget he set records running AND passing in this offense.
CPJ has done a magnificent job in a short period of time. Definitely not without faults, but who is ? I thought CPJ was too slow to realize the option just wasn’t go to work to #94’s side of the Iowa defense. The guy was blowing up the dive and athletic enough to continue on to the QB when it was pulled. Tech started moving the ball when it finally figured out to run away from that beast. Too late though.
CPJ seemed hard-headed for an entire half against Iowa, as GT kept trying one of the best DL’s in the country and losing on almost every attempt.
Tech was flat as a pancake against Miami and did look leg weary. The game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Georgia stopped the option by keeping the ball away from it. Good game plan. Not to take anything away from King or Ealey, but I believe I could have ripped off at least 100 yds. rushing with those hugh holes and I’m over 40 and overweight.
Much is made about giving a team a month to prepare negates the option. Tech absoluted imploded in every phase of the game against LSU at the Chick-Fil-A . Turnovers, failed fake punt deep in your own territory(dumb dumb dumb), stupid penalties, etc. I don’t care what offense you’re in. The offense never had a chance with that multi-phase meltdown.
I hate to focus on problems after a successful season, but the biggest problem that needs addressing is getting whipped physically on the line. Especially on the defensive side on the ball. That’s where I hope Groh’s schemes will help. Meanwhile, Tech’s DL’s and LB’s need to spend every free minute in the weight room and at the training table.

Al would be great for Tech. UVa is tough school to recruit and does not support the football program in order for it to be competitive every year. Not renewing his contract for several years killed recruiting and various player suspensions made it worse. Next UVa coach will have same problems. The less than average running game of UGA would not look all-world against an Al Groh defense. We’re headed in right direction. Already excited about next year.

I think UGA should go with Grantham! Looking at the Dallas D line tonight, they look unblockable. He could also sell on recruits playing in the NFL. I am not sure what Kirby’s role is in Alabamas success as a defense, but I am not sold on him and if he is thinking this much on taking the job, maybe he should just stay in Alabama.

I see (read) that many dog fans are scared. As they should be. It’s hurting them that the baffoon (PJ) running an antiquated/high school offense possesses the “ca-jones” that they wish richt had. PJ doesn’t tolerate mediocrity or less! PJ’s a winner. Always has been, always will be!
Maybe these dog fans still think Dave Braine is still running things at GT. He’s gone folks. Been gone for a few years now.
You GA peeps better get use to the fact that PJ will be a thorn in the dogs’ side as long as he’s at GT. I saw the GT defense play 2 bad games vs. GA in PJ’s 1st 2 seasons, yet the sorry team from the ACC is 1-1 in those games. It will take GA’s best effort offensively to have a chance to beat GT. So far two great offensive efforts by the dogs has resulted in a 1-1 record vs PJ’s Jackets. Funny how GA fans assume GA will always put out great offensive efforts vs GT. Who are they going to have fired when the GA O puts up a dud vs GT (b/c they won’t stand a chance WHEN that happens, and it’s going to happen)?
I’m not saying I know a bunch about Groh, but reading some of these blogs assures me that he’s an upgrade from Wommack. And if that’s truly the case, then GA fans, you better get ready for those duds sooner than you think/wish.

I have to agree with you on giving P.J. credit. But, Groh’s teams have been awful as of late and this year’s team was absolutely massacred on defense. How much do you think his potential hiring has to do with his system affiliation (3-4 scheme)? And, it can not surely be a coincidence that these men seem to have similar dispositions…Right? I am sure that there are some really good, young defensive minds out there that would love to coach at a school like Tech right now. Is he the best choice?

I hope we find a way to sign Al Groh as the next DC for GT………he is a proven defensive coordinator, a VERY solid coach and a high character person. He has legitimate Head Coachng experience which will no doubt make him a better DC and help with his recruiting. He already knows all of the ACC teams and he is a HUGE improvement over Wommack.
Any chance some of the kids he has been recruiting (or possibly been coaching at Virginia) might be interested in playing at GT if we have him at DC??

Ok Georgia fans listen up and get a little education. You can see by paying attention that this is how a head coach who is a leader handles a situation…..you go 11 and 3 and you have a problem with your defense giving up too many points. You fire the guy immediately. You don’t let him stay four years past when you should have fired him. You make the decision to fire, you make a decision to hire because you’ve been thinking about who you want. In the case of Mark Richt, you grudgingly fire a guy who’s underachieved because he’s a friend and then you let it drag on and on and on and on and on and show just what a weak sissy you are. Paul Johnson is a leader not a peckerhead like Marky mark Mark…….you know it’s the truth and you wish just for a minute that Marky boy had a sack like Paul Johnson but he doesn’t and you know it. Nick Saban can take a truck driver in Mobile and make him a defensive coordinator as good as Kirby Smart and right now you think you can get him but you’re really thinking you can’t because you suck as a program…..you deserve so much better you really do….but as long as Mark Richt is in charge all you’ll ever get is a sniff and a hope that you’ll get there but deep down in your hearts of bulldawg hearts you know that Urban Meyer and Nick Saban and yes Les Miles are better than what you got and you go to sleep every night wondering when will we get what we deserve. Well you’ll get it the day you fire Mark Richt and you hire a guy that has vision, intelligence, and is driven to give you what you want…..right now you ain’t got it and you know it….admit it.

I guess I see your point but I am just not sure how proven he is on the college level. I know he won two ACC Coach of the Year awards but his record is horrible. Furthermore, his recruiting classes since 2005 have been marginal at best and what he has recruited has not resulted in victories on the field. This man fielded a team that was beaten by William & Mary last year. And, his team gave up 26 points to them. Hell, why wouldn’t Tech just go after Mickey Andrews? He is only two years older than Groh and he is just as accomplished as a recruiter and a defensive mind in the ACC. I am not sure if he wants to stay retired or not but it would have been worth it to check in to it. Was anyone else even considered? This sounds like a decision that was made before Wommack was even let go.

I hope CPJ looks around before hiring a DC too quickly, but if he finds who he wants I’m sure he’ll go for it. CMR needs to hire someone soon now that all the games are over for recruiting sake, but it won’t be Smart. How foolish would he be to leave Bama for the same job at a lesser school? The three four is perfect for Tech who cannot recruit lineman that can physically compete with nationally ranked team. What the state of Georgia has is an abundance of good athletes that are inbetweener. Brooking came to Tech as a strong safety, and was turned into a pretty good linebacker. In order to do more thing to get at the quarterback and your lineman cannot physically help the linebacker out, you need more standing players jumping around making the big offensive linemen move around and have to think.

Al Groh is a mistake for Tech. I’ve lived here for his entire 9 year stay in Cville. He fired his son, Mike from the OC job last year so he could keep his job.
6-7 years ago, a player asked for a year off to get
his academic life in order and Groh allowed him to
leave the team. When the year was up, Groh would
not give him his scholarship back. The boy and his
dad complained all over the local papers. They were
under the impression that his scholarship would be

We use to say if only we had an offense to go along with the defense..More on Tenuta..In 2005, defense keyed the Jackets’ road victories at Auburn and Miami in 2005 as Tech allowed a combined total of 80 yards rushing to the two Top 10 teams while collecting 10 sacks and forcing six turnovers. Tech held the Hurricanes to 237 total yards and 1-for-14 on third downs, while limiting Georgia, another Top 10 foe, to 266 total yards. Following the Miami game, Tenuta was named National Coordinator of the Week by Rivals.com as well as National Defensive Coordinator of the Week by the Master Coaches Survey. Tenuta’s unit grabbed 21 interceptions, the most by a Tech defense since 1990, and led the ACC in turnover margin.

Smart would be crazy to leave Bama. Here’s why. If smart goes to UGA he’ll be the “coach in waiting” to replace Richt whenever he finally retires, leaves or gets fired. If he stays at Bama, people will continue to notice his work and he’ll be a head coach in 1-2 years tops. Anybody who has Smart’s best interest at heart will realize that he will become a head coach much sooner if he stays at Bama. I don’t think anybody here has Smart’s best interest at heart though.

Look fellows as much as I dislike Tech you have to give some credit to CPJ for pulling the trigger on what was obviously the weakest link on the team. Go to a major bowl and rather than being satisfied with your team overall, he fires the DC who was not getting the job done. This is something that CMR has been hesitant to do while at UGA and it has hurt us. CWM should have been gone 2 years ago. Again kudos to CPJ for striving to make his team better, but honestly there are better candidates out there for the taking. But what do I know. Go Dawgs.

I’ve looked at the resumes of Smart and Groh as defensive coordinators….not as head coaches. No comparison. You could write a book on what Groh has accomplished and who he has coached under….Smart couldn’t fill a chapter of reading material. Alabama’s D won’t skip a beat as long as Saban is head coach and keeps his hands on the defense. Groh isn’t/won’t be the head coach and anyone who followed UVA knows it was the short comings of their offense that caused UVA to faulter.

GT fan, you do not want any part of Al Groh. He isn’t personable, he can’t make decisions, and he won’t accept a subordinate role, despite what he’ll say. He is only in this to keep his power base to help his walking popcorn fart of a son (Mike, who never succeeded in any of his assignments at UVA) get back into coaching, after being relegated to a GA role with Nick Saban. Groh gets a lot of credit for being a genius with LB’s, but come on! How hard was it to make LT look like a star? For those spouting off commentary about the statistical ranking of UVA’s defense – go check out where their OFFENSE was ranked last year and you will know why the defense was not ranked higher. You can’t have 20 3 and outs during the course of a game and NOT have your defense be tired. As much as I disliked the final years of Groh, the bottom line is that as his own defensive coordinator his defenses were excellent – but because his offenses were so bad it put too much pressure on the defense. With the quintuple option GT runs and with the ball control offense, people SHOULD be scared of GT if they get Groh. And this from a non-GT fan.

The reason that CPJ took maybe 3 minutes to “offer Groh” is because he was DUMPED from about two teams in The League AND VA. See? He is a scrap on the trash pile of coaching. Not one, OTHER TEAM wanted him. He is frankly Willie Martinez II. HAHAHAHAHA
IF KS goes to UGA he has decided that he CAN make a difference. He is current assist coach of the year of the SEC/NC team and having won the coveted Broyles award, etc. His phone has been busy. Groh’s? Same as W Martinez’s phone.
CPJ is desperate to win now because he knows that Tech’s HISTORIC coaching clock is ticking …………. tick tock, tick tock. They come and go at The Flats every 4.5 years and he is entering his third year. Gulp ………he will either quit soon or be fired. Likely, he will move on to a major school like Elon College, Samford or maybe even that powerhouse Furman. HAHAHAHAHA

Tenuta isn’t coming back….though, his attack ‘D’, partnered with the methodical CPJ ‘O’ would make for some fun football!!! Tenuta’s ‘D’, while making it tough for quarterbacks to get comfortable, also made for some big plays in favor of our opponents. Tenuta wants to be a head coach….left when that wasn’t going to happen at Tech. He’s not coming back. Grogh? Not sure…..guess we’ll find out soon enough! GO TECH!!!!

Officially, gat tech is leading the nation in one stat, amazingly, and that is having the biggest bug lips in all of college football. When the camera is on your QB all you can see is a stupid bee on the side of a helmet and massive lips. there is no racial slur involved in the fact that ga tech has one thing, and one thing only going for it, huge lips. rock on!! roll tide!!!!

I expect that GT will ask the NBA thug Crittendon to bring his pistol to graduation and address the proud 2010 graduates. What do REAL TECH fans think of this? I do not want to hear from teen thugs with no job and no education that plink, plink, plink all day at home on mom’s PC eating HUGE BAGS of chips and sipping Urange soft drinks. By the way …………OBAMA will TAX all the over weight slobs that live this way with his new HC tax and spend bill.
Kirby will be in place SOON and the 5 stars will be standing in line. We are knee deep with them anyway over in Athens. Groh? Used car he is. Washed up and over the hill and fired twice.
Go Dogs.
Dawg bloggers and CPJ and his mouth

The only reason that UGA folks come to the web is to read what the techers are saying about their messiah, CPJ. He is a mouth and is a fool. That “slap them in their face” comment about UGA was gasoline on the camp fire. Now? We look forward to watching him and seeing his fat face when players um, ah, like Caleb and Wahuan and Chapas and Muzenmeir and IOWA BLOW PAST HIM.
The famous 4th down drop of D Thomas and how that might have been the game. Rontavious Wooten did drop a pass right in his hands and he was FULL STRIDE at the tech 35 or 40 and would have made the score, then in the mid second qtr about 21-0. See? Wooten’s drop WAS A TD but baybays?? That was nothing ……..in fact, the next play Dwyer could have fumbled or Nesbitt fumble or toss a quick 6 pic.
The other tech TD was just from a lousy tackle like we did in 08. Take about 4 missed tackles in the last two tech games and UGA wins them both BADLY> As it turned out we won the last one and that made it 8-1 over the last few years.
UGA will never, ever respect CPJ and his fat mouth or Tech. SEC is simply ……..BIG BOY football and the ACC is well, um, ah a girl’s league. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If true, um ah ………why??? Can anyone fill me in on this???
Oh yeah, how are my men J Hamilton and R. Houston doing? Have they gotten out yet???
Gooooooooooooooooo Dogs. Sic em !!! 1-8, 4-15 and yes, 30-24 and the Urange Bowl had 34,000 fans
Go Dogs.

Mark Bradley, nothing against Al Groh, his DC stats are decent but I wince at his head coaching stats, yuck..losing to Wm and Mary….disagree with you calling Tenuta overrated…Tenuta won at Miami in 2005 and held Canes scoreless in 2nd half, thus the demise of Coker… and also won again in 2007 as well as winning in Blacksburg too. That is not an easy thing to accomplish. GT needed an offense to go with that defense. Do not know if Tenuta was not offered a chance to stay on or left because GT did not offer him the head coaching position, but overall Tenuta did a good job.

I’d agree with “Settle Down’s” point and take it further: I can pull for anyone I want, not because I graduated there, or went there, or pay taxes that support a school…. but simply because I want to. No laws against that. Yet.

You UGA fans REALLY are looking for a rally point — something to hang your hat on — if you’re STILL going after the “… get thick skin or punch them in the face comment.” No one who bothered to listen, or knew the context of the statement, could possibly be offended. He was poking fun at Tech fans as much as anything else.
In 100 or so games, there’s MUCH for both sides to pick on. But this isn’t it.
And it’s gotten tired, because it never deserved the legs it had to begin with.

[...] We’d have to credit Tech for running the smoother search. (This falls under the heading of “Duh!”) The Jackets dumped Dave Wommack last Friday and landed a new man within eight days, which put Paul Johnson five-plus weeks ahead of Mark Richt. As was reported in this space last week, PJ locked in on Groh from the start. [...]
