I am NOT taking a leave of absence – just a vacation

I’ll be off the rest of the year. Such a declaration would be more dramatic if made on Labor Day, but guess who waits until the calendar is about to turn before trying to use up all his vacation days? Moron = me.

Leave of absences being all the rage, I  did want to say this. I don’t understand how the health issues Urban Meyer faces were serious enough to make him fear for his life Saturday but not so serious as to prevent him from deciding Sunday he’ll be OK to coach in 2010. His about-face won’t have much impact on Florida; I hope it doesn’t have a deleterious effect on Meyer.

Before I sign off, I need to re-tell a story: I spent last New Year’s Eve in a hotel room in Orlando wondering why more folks weren’t sitting home reading this dumb little blog. It was a major deal to me because I was hoping to reach two million page views on the year.  We ended up at 1.976 million, this despite the best efforts of various daughters and nieces who paused during their own New Year’s Eve celebration in Northern Kentucky to chip in with some clicks.

My goal for this year was, I believed, even more daring — three million page views. I’m proud and stunned to report that, as of this moment, we’re at 6,770,819. That’s more than a 300 percent increase. That is, at least to me, incredible.

We did 1.1 million clicks in November alone, and when I say “we” I’m not being disingenuous. Y’all have turned this little blog into a BIG blog, and for that I can offer only heartfelt gratitude. I’d love to say we’ll get only bigger in 2010, but frankly we’ve gotten so huge it’s scaring me. So I’ll just shut up and say thanks for a year beyond my imagination, and I’ll see you again in Twenty Ten.

Namaste, Bradley. In my youth, you were the permed and mustached writer who seemed to write every other article criticizing Bobby Knight and praising something called Kentucky basketball. Now, in my maturation, I see you as a reasonable fellow who walks the thin line between objective sports analysis and inspired impromptu fan out-takes, oh so gracefully.

May a thousand suns shine on your new year…

Mark: Not surprised that your blog has been such a success–it’s the best of the ajc and the ajc has the best sports coverage in the south. Get relaxed and refreshed. Happy New Year!

No don’t go away. You’re the only one at the ajc who writes anything worth a darn. Nice job on the clicks. I think GT’s good season surely helped. Also the falcons as contenders and the hawks starting strong. Along with uga playing uninspired football brought out the willie posts.

You should give awards for the most firsts! Also a rating system for each post would be nice. Then add in a sort button to read the top ranked posts.

Namaste, Bradley. I knew your brother. He had a curly perm and a mustache. And he always wrote about something called Kentucky basketball. I find your articles much more broad and in depth covering an array of sports with the disinterest required of objectivity and the passion of any Joe Q. Public Sports Fan. A combination both rare and noteworthy. You’ve adapted (and excelled) in the new media age.

A thousand suns on your house for the new year.

We hope you have a good vacation, Mark. We was never much into vacations because we have to come back and the second shift is there waiting for us. Now, don’t get us wrong, they is nothing wrong with the second shift – but after being on a beach with lots of good looking women in bikinis the second shift doesn’t have a lot to offer. Plus, being a Clusters we are a heart breaker and that’s hard on too many women as well as on us. We tried going to museums and stuff instead of the beach but Clusters was there at most of the important historical events and was living and writing a lot of the history. Being modest, we don’t like to flaunt that. Not many people know about Clusters at Valley Forge but George Washington sure was glad to see us.

Enjoy your time off, Mark. But we all know something will happen this week that will cause you to upload another blog. Something like Nick Saban announcing his retirement after the MNC game… unless they win, and then he may return for another year. Or, how about Tim Tebow stating he will take over as Florida’s OC? Or, perhaps, Mark Rich promotes Garner as DC after the Dawgs hold TA&M to 10 points later today? You’re a lot like UM… you can’t really get entirely away from what you love doing, especially when there is juicy news to report or comment on. Happy New Year, nonetheless!!

let me tell you about being a Dogpoop fan in Charlotte, nobody cares or gives a damn. They do not even know who you beat or who you lost to up here much less what bowl, if any, you are playing in. On the other hand, they know all about GT and all vy, the Clemson, UNC, VT, Wake, Duke) to beat us. I know I live here too. Those days are long gone with anyone outside of the SEC giving a rat’s @ss about UGA, about 20 years gone and that is with all your 5 star recruiting years.

Uh-Sorry. Just channeling Deion re Josh Cribbs, (who my daughter says SHOULD be doing a national show called “Cribs of the NFL.)

Rest up, dude. The Draft is coming, and much analysis is needed for us GM-wannabes. (As I remember you were solidly in the Ice camp while I’m still hammered by the beloved yelling “Go Dorsey” when he makes a good play.)

Happy New Year to all, and for the Falcons, a good winning fight.

Mark, it’s because you actually come down from your internet castle and actually INTERACT with us, the lowly cyber serfs. When we ask a question and then minutes later you respond with that darker gray “I’m in charge hear” glow around your comment box, it affirms our existence. We realize that we do not read and post in vain. Then when we get in stupid arguments with our friends and co-workers, we can always say “no way, I’m right because MARK BRADLEY said so!” And mark bradley never admits to being wrong. Ever.

Plus, you frequently tell us never to read anything you right and instead scroll down to the comment box and write “first.” What writer would actually say that?

Have a good vacation. I’m expecting at least 1,200 entries from you in 2010. Rest up.
