It’s live chat time, and we’ll keep going until 1 p.m. You’re free to ask anything and everything, but I thought I’d start the festivities with a few topic suggestions, some of which came from you. (Thanks!)
• Would Georgia be better served hiring a Big Name defensive coordinator or looking for a guy from a smaller school whose profile is substantially lower? Brian VanGorder came from Central Michigan, did he not? (Then again, so did Willie Martinez.)
• The Hawks are 17-6. Mike Woodson is a lame duck, at least at the moment. Should that be remedied soon, or would Rick Sund be better off waiting until May/June to work a new deal? (But what if Woodson becomes a hot commodity after leading the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals — don’t laugh — and leaves to take another job?)
• Can the Falcons win these final three games? Can they win another game? And if they end up 8-8 or worse, is the season a refutation of the Dimitroff/Smith Method? (I say no, but maybe that’s just me.)
• I have a Hall of Fame ballot. Should I vote for Mark McGwire? Should I write in Greg Norton’s name?
• Bobby Cox is approaching his final season. Will he work extra hard on nicknames for this last go-around?
• Tech basketball: Like what you’ve see so far?
• A submission from Daniel: Does playing Jonathan Babineaux the same week he was arrested give lie to the Falcons’ claims of being a character-first organization?
• A submission from Heath: Kennesaw State football — great idea or non-starter?
• Does Frank Wren know what he’s doing? Will Derek Lowe be traded? Should Derek Lowe be traded?
• Will it get even better for Paul Johnson and Tech, or is 11-2 the summit?
OK, there’s 10 ideas. We can discuss all, some or none. But I will make one request: Having said that you’re free to ask anything/everything, I’ll affix one asterisk. I’d rather not talk about Michael Vick. I’m tired of that one. I expect you are, too.
And with that, the figuarative microphone is open. I’m listening, Seattle Atlanta. (Sorry. Watched “Frasier” one time too many.)

Hey Mark, I had an idea….With Bobby (possibly) retiring after this season, a coaching change must happen, therefore; What if the Braves tried to pursue an already experienced manager, i.e. Ron Gardenhire? And if so, what do you think of making Chipper Jones hitting coach?

for those on these blogs mouthing off about GT ticket sales to the Orange Bowl. I, for one, bought my ticket through Ticketmaster because I was able to purchase a lower level seat, in fact, it is on row 1 which is what I prefer. It seems the majority of the GT as well as the Iowa allotment is upper level and I do not want to sit there. There will be plenty of GT fans in Miami who did what I did. The party is at South Beach!

Markey, what is your grudge against UGA football?? did the Athens Banner Herald deny you a job at somepoint? Why do you and Schultzie take every chance you get to take a stab at them. After the scoreboard at the end of the game at Bobby Dudd stadium read 30-24 after 4 quarters, do you still want to tell us that Paul Johnson is the best coach in Georgia?? Your answers will determine if i ever read your posts again.

thanks for using my suggestion.
In terms of Babineaux and the Falcons, yes, by playing him they cannot continue to claim that they are a character first orginization. They had the opportunity to take a stand, instead winning was more important. Interestingly, for me I still completely respect and trust Dimitroff/Smith, which is a far cry from what I felt about Mora after the Coleman incident. Even though playing Babineaux was “worse” than covering for Coleman. I don’t know why I give these guys a pass, but I do.

Mark,
Do you feel that Rick Sund is as unimpressed with Mike Woodson as I, as well as most fans, am?? Although he has improved upon his record each season, couldn’t it be argued that most of that progression was due to the natural maturation of a young team??
I still see college teams play better “help defense” and I still offensive play calls that allow Josh Smith to hang out on the perimeter… I also this team take many a night off… the blame should fall to coaching, correct?
Who could/would you see a possible replacement? Any chance that Phil Jackson or George Karl may wanna coach here?

Earlier in the year you wrote a wonderful piece stating that UGA would finish 5th in the ACC.
After the Dawgs ran over the Bees in Atlanta, and South Carolina manhandled Clemson 34-17 (remind you that UGA beat SC) would you like to revise your statement? I think it’s hard to say that UGA would finish 5th now since we see that they are better than the ACC’s two best teams, don’t you?

In terms of Woodson, like him as our coach, really do. But the threat of him becoming a hot commodity is unlikely. No, I do expect the Hawks to make a strong playoff push this year. But, with the NBA economy and the fact that Woodson has grown up with these players. If Sund makes him an offer at the end of the season, he will take it.

Regarding Tech reaching a plateau of sorts…maybe for a while. The offense has come in quickly as the team has learned it, and in doing so has baffled most opponents. The defense is the key to continued top level success…and it might take longer to build, as their is nothing secret about strong defense…its just talent executing their jobs consistently. Comes from recruiting better players over the long haul. Until that happens, Tech will just have to continue to score a lot and have the ball last in many of their games. Thoughts?

Nicknaming players is high risk. Bobby Cox can get away with it but sportswriters should never do it. Pet names like “Hoss” or “Sweet Cakes” should make everybody in the clubhouse feel a little uncomfortable – and it could cut down on interviews from some of the other players. We was never allowed nicknames when we was playing ball. That’s why one of us got named Frenchy after getting to the Major Leagues.

Do you see a light at the end of the tunnel for the Braves? If they are that unwilling to increase the payroll, then I don’t see how they figure to realistically compete for a championship in 2010 — and I mean Division Championship.
If ownership/management refuses to spend money on the team, then why should the fans?
I also hope they don’t feed us more bs about how they choose to field next year’s team like they did last year… case in point: the logic behind not going after Adam Dunn was that he played horrible defense… yet we go out and sign Garrett Anderson??

I for one always thought the AJC was biased toward UGA…but have perceived a swing this year. You say that Woody is held in “high regard” among other NBA types, but I question just how highly his current general manager regards him. I feel that the Hawks have had more of “natural progression” through maturation and seasoning than that of Woody’s coaching — and that isn’t to take ALL credit away from Woody — I just don’t give him as much.
I feel that the progression from the Hawks should have come faster and in much larger doses, given the talent.

I have always been a huge baseball fan, but the domination and excessive payroll of the big market teams is really getting old. As evidenced by the NYY acquisitions LY (Teixera, Sabathia, Burnett, etc.) and the Red Sox (Lackey) and Phillies (Halladay) this year, only the wealthy teams can compete and the smaller market teams (Pgh, KC…) will always finish close to 100 losses. Why can’t more balance be provided and and maybe adjust schedules (i.e. – NFL) to offer tougher competition for teams in the top tier?

While at OSU, before his ACL issues Derek Anderson was a future phenom. His knees did him in. It was awesome watching him play. Not saying he is better than either mentioned, just a comment on how good of an player he could have been.

I believe the Dawgs should hire a no-nonsense NFL guy like Sanders. Someone who will instill discipline and has a record of being a good X’s and O’s guy. I personally don’t like the Kirby Smart hire because i think he will have a HC offer next year and i don’t want a one and done guy. Gimme an under the radar NFL guy who’s just focused on defense. I really don’t care if he’s a good recruiter or not. As long as he’s tough.

Marc, while the new regime in Flowery Branch has done a great job, there seems to be a hole in wunderkind Thomas Dimitroff’s game.
He has demonstrated a serial willingness to ignore a player’s history of injuries in college, and draft him high. Sam Baker, Peria Jerry and William Moore come to mind.
Have you talked to Dimitroff about this? Does he see this as a weakness of his? Has he, or have you, added-up the number of games lost to injuries by his draft picks who had a history of injuries in college?
Thanks.

Mark,
My understanding is Lowe goes because lower price starting pitchers performance exceeded expectations last year and now with six starting pitchers healthy and ready, moving the highest price salary makes the most sense to create more payroll availability to sign a right handed hitter (LF or 1B) to short term contract (to keep doors open for Freeman & Hayward) and then sign an extension for Vazquez.
Because of the higher price signings taking place now for starting pitchers, Lowe will be in demand and considered a good value at the current contract price for those teams with last year being considered a career anomaly. If any of the other five had failed or was injured, moving Lowe’s contract would not be considered. This all seems very reasonable to me. I would not be surprised to see Lowe moved within days and possibly a bat signed inside of two weeks. Very exciting and promising. Thanks Bruce

Mark,
I think that Sund and company should wait until the end of the season. The question is, did this team grow because of Woodson or because of the amount of years they’ve been together. I think tht is a legitmate question. As we all know, Woody’s development of young talent has been questioned. Sure Josh Smith and Al Horford’s games have improved. Well, Josh went to camp with Olajawon and Horford was a nearly complete product when he came into the league. When you look at the Marvin’s, Law’s, and Diaw’s of the world, the question must be asked: did Billy draft marginal talents or did Woodson underdevelop them? Diaw has become solid under two different teams, although we wanted to run him out of town.
Depending on how we finish the season and the playoffs, that should determine Woodson’s fate. And even if he’s a good coach, if a better alternative is out there that could improve on-court productivity, don’t you owe it to yourself to improve the team? After all, when we talk players, we say trade this player for that player because he’s better. Why shouldn’t the same apply to coaches, IF the alternative is better?

I’m wondering why Dimitrof (?) isn’t getting questioned a little more. He left this defense with basically nothing, short of Jerry. I keep hearing about B. Williams injury, but he wasn’t really a #1 corner.
I think the “go young” on D back-fired terribly and cost this team a playoff chance.

From what I understand, the NFLPA collective bargaining agreement prohibits teams from sitting players as a form of punishment after drug related arrests until they have had their due legal process. So, the Falcons had no choice but to play Babineaux, under those circumstances only. Also, in regards to this season, I feel the Falcons get a “pass” if they go 8-8 because of all of the injuries.
It’s too early in the off-season to know how the Braves will be put together, however it’s obvious that one starting pitcher will be gone and at least one outfielder and hopefully a first baseman will be coming via free agency and/or trade.
Mark McGwire should be voted into the HOF based on his body of work on the baseball diamond. If you are going to exclude guys of questionable character or personal flaws, then it’s time to re-evaluate the induction of (and work towards removing) Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and a slew of others.
UGA will continue to be spurned by big-time DCs and will settle on a lesser choice, likely someone being promoted up to DC from a big school or a current DC from a smaller school.

I think Dimitroff does take previous injuries into account when drafting. He uses it as a means to get “value” for his picks. Baker, Jerry and Moore were all projected-prior to their injuries-to go higher than they did. Dimitroff rolls the dice a bit and hopes the prior injuries are completely healed. If so, he can “top 20″ talent at a discount. The jury is still out, however, on whether this will work.

Thanks for answering, Mark. I haven’t studied the issue, but I wonder what the trend is for players who have an early history of injuries in college football?
Are persistent injuries early in his career a sign that the player is injury-prone? Or have a significant number of players changed once they reached the pros, and stayed healthy?
My gut instinct is that it’s a body-type thing. Some players just have bodies that can’t take the stress, no matter how good they look in the gym. And so they get a variety of injuries throughout their careers.
Given the thoroughness with which he does his job, I’m sure it’s something that Dimitroff has considered. I’d sure like to hear his thoughts not just on the specific players he’s drafted, but also on the concept that some players, for reasons unknown, really are injury-prone.

Wasn’t part of the reason UGA’s defensive coaches were fired when they were to get the jump on everyone else who had openings? I’m not saying Richt should be hasty in this decision, but now Florida has an opening and other openings are popping up all over the country. Meanwhile Georgia is getting turned down by Bud Foster.
Which brings me to another point — isn’t it weird that coaches keep using teams here as levers for raises or bargaining ploys for other jobs?

Mark the best DC candidate out there just might be Tommy West. He’s tough, mature, no nonsense, has the defensive pedigree, and is unemployed. This guy took a Memphis D that teams ran through like water through a net and in 1 year took it to #5 in total D and #1 in the nation against the rush. Have you heard anything at all about what’s up with him be it UGA or anywhere else for that matter?

I think this Kentucky team could stay on the floor with Memphis of 2007 and the other clubs, JSS, but I don’t know if it would win. Wall’s a great player and Patterson is very good, but I don’t think Kentucky’s talent level beyond that would match, say, Carolina’s of last season’s.

I disagree that the hawks are doing fine regarding big men. I agree Horford is having a terrific year. I also agree that the hawks starting 5 are fine in regards to big men as well. I think the hawks only problem lies in not having a true big man coming off the bench with any weight on him. I think as the season goes on you’ll start to see the hawks struggle late in games against the “beast in the east” teams which have big bodied center’s such as howard and shaq. I liked the thought behind adding collins but he just hasn’t seemed very sharp to me in his limited playing time this season. I think adding a bigger body to the bench will immensely help them down the road, especially in the playoffs.

Let me start by saying I did not like the Gailey hiring and I do not like him as a coach. With that said, I do not agree that Gailey maintained the GT program: He vastly improved it. The problem is that he couldn’t beat UGA – he is hardly alone there (UGA is a fine football program – there is no shame in losing to them).
Look at the facts: During his tenure the stadium was expanded and the facilities were upgraded. The talent level at GT has never been higher – compare the talent when CPJ took over to when CCG took over – it isn’t even close. Plus, he addressed the problems with academics. Also, GT has never placed more players in the NFL than they did during CCG’s tenure – this is a double edged sword because now people know GT should have been beating UGA.
All in all, CCG was a mediocre coach but was able to build a very solid football program.
Another way to look at it: If CPJ had followed O’leary – does anyone think he would have had GT in the Orange Bowl his second season? Not a chance.

Couple of things about UGA’s DC opening.
UGA never offered Koenning the job, he wouldn’t have chosen Illinois over UGA. He wouldn’t have chosen Illinois if he thought he would be offered by UGA. Illinois’ staff is in a win-or-you-done year. Besides all of the common sensical reasons, better talent, get paid more, etc.
UGA contacted Bud Foster last week and offered the job, it just now came out this week. UGA is veing very mum. Word got out on the VT side.
UGA has led recruits to believe that a new DC will not be announced until after the bowl or after whatever team the coach is coaching for season is over. Which would tell me that it is either going to be a NFL guy or a guy coaching in an elite (BCS) bowl.
UGA is not leaking anything, not even to “insiders.” Whoever claims to have insider information may have gotten information from an insider, but it is pure speculation.

I question the Falcons keeping three quarterbacks on the roster, especially with all the injuries. John Parker Wilson has been absolutely no use, has not played a single play all year. My point w/Falcons was that they didn’t go for someone that was “new, fresh, or up & coming” is all. He was more popular, if you want to stretch the definition, due to the fact he was a known NFL coach who wanted the job. Different era, for sure.
MTSU is in a bowl game (9-3) this year and did a great job, defensively, vs. Clemson. I’ve got no dawg in the fight for him, but my point is that he fits your previous description of having experience at D-I level, has Richt connections, and, at least on the surface, seems like a pretty good coach.
Other than “name recognition” he passes the smell test. I guess, in the end, I’m just trying to get a feel for why he hasn’t been mentioned and, from what I gather from you, it’s a big name factor. I’m cool with that.

When the Braves signed Wagner, there was never any talk about having to give up a #1 draft choice as a big deal. When Gonzalez signs with one of the high spending teams, I guarantee that giving up a #1 draft pick will not be a big deal to them. So why couldn’t the Braves get a #1 draft choice for Soriano? What’s the difference in giving up a draft choice with free agency versus the reported line by Sportswriters that nobody would give up their #1 choice for Soriano?

Mark…In reality were the Falcons even a playoff team before Ryan and Turner got hurt??? I mean if you look previous to their injuries, all the Falcons wins were against teams with .500 records or worse. I’m sure you saw where Alabama had six All-Americans. Were they all first team? That would be ’sick’ as the young kids say. It’s phenomenal what he’s achieved in three years. That was a serious football team all year. Not like Miami/FSU during the 90’s but just solid.
What would be your guess at Wood’s indefinite leave? Can you imagine him missing a major or being out an entire year? Guess it depends on whether he can or can’t salvage his marriage. Thanks for doing these. I’ve looked forward to your musings for some 20 years and while various media guys do these type live chats now, you seem to genuinely enjoy the exchange which is refreshing.

As Josh Smith goes, so goes Woody. That is the barometer of his coaching prowess. Unfortunately, I have only watched one game this year and that was the Knick debacle when Smith went 18 year old on us for the umpteenth time.
Lowe will win 15 games the ugly way and Hudson will lose 10 the pretty way and have another six non-decision losses. I will take the wins.

They won 1 WS in 14 tries, you do the Math. Lost one after being up 2-0. You would think the law of averages would dictate at least 2 maybe 3 more than they won.

Yo Mark! I just got this info on UGA’s D coordinator position.
I’ve gotten word from a VERY credible source that Kirby Smart is very intrested in the job and there is more than a good chance that he could end up in Athens. A friend of mine who is a High School coach and former player of the 2000 Valdosta State football team in which Will Muschamp coached defense, said that after mingling with Muschamp and Smart at the Georgia State Championships this weekend at the Georgia Dome, Smart said he was interested in the possibilities of coaching in his home state. And get this Dawg fans, it is a better chance of him coming if Bama wins the NC. It would give him even more leverage when it comes to salary negotiations. He also said that he and Saban have had talks about the posibility of UGA coming after him and plan to match whatever offer UGA throws his way. It was also said that from this source that Smart said Saban although a great coach, is a work-a-holic and he didn’t have as much time with his family as he would like. This bodes well for Richt and his more family orientated coaching style. To draw my conclusion from this exchange, is that Bama is gonna try and match whatever UGA does, but in the end it’s gonna come down to where Smart wants to be, and from this info UGA could have their next DC. He also said discussions wouldn’t really start til after the title game.

If they can keep Peria Jerry healthy I think you get 1/2 a pass rusher there; he definitely made Beer Man better in his 2 games.
I don’t think we get instant help for secondary from the draft unless Berry slips to them. Chris Owens might be panning out but keep in mind they pulled off Foxworth and Williams (instant #1 corners). Both of those guys are bigger bodies than what we have.
Are there any “sleeper” dbs out there with some size?

I think the offense, even with Ryan, let the team down, highlighting the defensive weaknesses. I feel the Douglas injury might have killed us as much as Turner. Couple times against the Saints Booker just couldn’t quite get separation from his man. Douglas would have wrecked havoc in those situations.
Saints will lose once they run into a hot QB.
Me thinks the Wildcat formation will be about as popular as a Wing T in the NFL in about a year.

Mark don’t you find it rather small of the reporters at the AJC to not mention the facts of Mark Ingram, and the History of race relations at Alabama. I mean here was a school, just 39 years ago had to have USC come down here and embarass not only them(Ala), but the whole SEC. This is a story of deep significants in history. Don’t patronize me or any other African American reader by saying you didn’t want to play the “race card”, when it gets played all the time at the AJC. Alabama, a school with 12 nat’l championships, numerous All Americans, and not one Heisman winner. It took a “Black Man ” to bestow that honor on Alabama. God sure has a funny way of balancing things out.

A GT question Mark. Tech’s woes on D are pretty obvious. Lack of depth and size up front and no coverage skills in the secondary. I’m not ready to throw Womack under the bus because of what he’s working with, but after watching Navy on Saturday, it appears that they have a rather polished and effective short/medium passing game. The lack of the same with GT is glaring. Gailey left good receivers at Tech. Is Nesbitt the issue there? Nesbitt has always been a “thrower” to me rather than a passer and obviously the substantial amount of time it takes to make a thrower a passer just isn’t spent in when a team runs the TO. However, Paul Johnson being nobody’s fool obviously realizes that he has to develop a short/medium passing game to compete with the better teams he will face. Is it obvious to him that Nesbitt just doesn’t have it in that regard and this is something that will come post Nesbitt? However, with no WRs or QBs of note begging to play at GT has Johnson waited too long to get that ball rolling. Minus a much better defense and some semblance of a short/medium passing game which in effect is ball control, could this system become it’s own worst enemy?

Daniel, somehow I don’t think we are on the same page. Babs hasn’t been convicted of anything, merely charged, subject to further investigation and possible prosecution. Do you think the Falcons put him on the questionalble list for the Saints game because he really had a shoulder injury? No, they were sending a message, to him and the team. When the Falcons are in a position to address it they will.
I can promise you, if I was an owner of a NFL franchise, at these salaries, every player would be undergoing drug tests on a regular basis. How dare these men, given such gifts and opportunity, negate the efforts of so many people to attain this level of achievement and success. Our children hold you in high esteem, emulate you. At least if you screw it up please tell the kids not to.

What’s the perception up there of Fox’s progress. Don’t get much UGA basketball in Orlando but the results aren’t looking very good even for the first year.

I want to drop FSU and Clemson from the ACC and pick up SCAR and UCONN. SCAR just belongs there, it’s our sister state (NC) and the school has potential for academic excellence. UCONN is a so-=called sleeping giant. I’ve been on the campus several times, and I think it would be a great media draw for the ACC. I have nothing against FSU and Clemson, they just don’t “seem to fit”.

Mark, you recently mentioned that you would go after Withers at UNC. Heard anything about that possibility?

I would go after Withers and this is why. UNC arguably had best defense in country. Their offensive line was decimated from the beginning; they played defensive players on offense. Their defense was on the field almost all of the time and they still beat Miami, VaTech, UCONN, should have beat FSU and UNState. Lost big leads in last quarter when their defense wore down because it was 3-and-out for the offense. That’s why!

Alright I have heard lately is as soon as Lackey is signed, a Lowe deal will happen….well Lackey is signed…betcha Wren doesn’tget anything but a second rate bat and will chew on a bunch of Lowe’s salary that he overpaid for in the first place….Run Wren out of town as soon as possible…

I missed your 1pm deadline, boss. Are you going to chew me out?
Anyway…The Bobby Cox question should be: what stupid things might he do in 2010?
I like Martin Prado (i’m rooting for him), but he has a half season under his belt as a starter. What if he’s hitting 223 at the break? You know Cox is going to keep putting out there even if someone like perhaps Brooks Conrad is red hot.

The Falcons need 2 defensive ends…I mean 2 good ones. Abraham was great but they counted on an injury prone guy for 1 too many yrs and Anderson is big bust, holy cow all the guys we passed up to draft him. As I recall T. Moore was adamant about drafting that bum. Perhaps Sid will develop into decent DE. D. Morgan will be gone by the time we draft. With that said, if JC Spiller is on the board when the Falcons draft, they better take him.

I’d love to see a football program at KSU. Growing up right down the street from the college, I have seen where it has gone. The facilities have become wonderful and the athletics program is great. In the middle of Cobbb County, they will be able to get recruits. maybe not shooting off the ground, but it would work over time. I can’t wait to see this stadium that is being built, and really hope they do start the football program.

I’m a huge Georgia fan and graduate from UGA living in Athens. Hiring a big-name defensive coordinator would make a nice media splash, sure. But if the search concludes that a lesser-known individual has great qualities, knowledge, etc.–hire him! Then he’ll have media buzz later on after doing a good job!

Hey, how about I actually enter a comment for a change?
Alright, what the hell is up with this team? We sign a homerun leader from the minors?! What the F is that?
We let go two 30 year old bullpen arms for two arms born during the Nixon administration? How could we let go of the Cobra? He’s the Cobra. You don’t let the Cobra slither through your fingers like that… or something.
Is somebody stoned? There’s some bad acid going around the Braves front office.
I don’t even know anymore. I’m speechless. Nearly.

You know what the real tragedy that was Greg Norton in 2009? He made us all believe that Brooks Conrad was Shoeless Joe Jackson.
He’s just Brooks Conrad. Is he better than Greg Norton? Yes. Is he any better really than a Kelly Johnson for example? Who knows.
He was amazing for ten days in July and when he finally was brought back he was below average.
Greg Norton was so bad that we thought Brooks Conrad was better than good.
That’s just messed up.

rick sund, don’t hesitate, get mike woodson a contract extension now.also, braves, please bring in xavier nady, get rid of derek lowe(loser) or make a trade for an outfielder not only who can hit homers but has great defense and can run and steal bases also and put pressure on the other team’s defense with their speed.maybe jason heyward can fill the bill.we don’t need no over-the- hill outfielder but a young long time one

With the Braves Pitching, with an addition or two they could be good enough to win the Division or the Wild Card – with a good manager. But with Bobby Cox managing, forget it. With Cox managing, there is no way they can add enough players to make up for his management procedures and lack thereof – and for his continous blunders.

Mark: Last year you thought the Braves would win the NL East. I predicted third or fourth place. Where are you now? As Wren continues to demonstrate his incompetence (he is the Major Frank Burns of GM’s), I see the Braves finishing third or possibly second. This is based on how things stand today. With Spring looming, the concern is still offense and, as I see it, management has not improved the offense a lick from where we were at this point last year.

The Braves are in a position to compete especially having thrown out a rotation with Vazquez, Hanson, Jurrjens, Hudson and Lowe. That’s pretty solid not to mention Kawakami. This trade for Melky is just TERRIBLE.
What is Wren doing!? The only thing he has done is gotten us McLouth who hasnt dont much thus far. Francouer didnt produce as expected but we let him go for nothing. Going from Soriano/Gonzalez to Wagner/Saito is a downgrade, it made us older and probably worse. And in all that, they lost a first round draft pick and only gained the O’s second rounder. Garbage.
This Vasquez deal stinks. I mean you have to like the prospects we got, but when the team is in a position to compete this season it makes no sense to deal a guy who was one of the best three or four pitchers in the league last year for a fourth outfielder and two prospects. What happened to getting a “big bat” for a pitcher? Is a .269 batting Avg and 13 homers Wren’s idea of a big bat?
Hopefully Heyward gets up and just kills it! Until then, Wren is killing me softly! I was hoping to send Cox of into the sunset with a championship, and unless this is part 1 of a 2 part trade we are moving in the opposite direction! Thanks for letting me vent, haha.
