It’s live chat time, and we’ll keep going until 1 p.m. You’re free to ask anything and everything, but I thought I’d start the festivities with a few topic suggestions, some of which came from you. (Thanks!)
• Would Georgia be better served hiring a Big Name defensive coordinator or looking for a guy from a smaller school whose profile is substantially lower? Brian VanGorder came from Central Michigan, did he not? (Then again, so did Willie Martinez.)
• The Hawks are 17-6. Mike Woodson is a lame duck, at least at the moment. Should that be remedied soon, or would Rick Sund be better off waiting until May/June to work a new deal? (But what if Woodson becomes a hot commodity after leading the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals — don’t laugh — and leaves to take another job?)
• Can the Falcons win these final three games? Can they win another game? And if they end up 8-8 or worse, is the season a refutation of the Dimitroff/Smith Method? (I say no, but maybe that’s just me.)
• I have a Hall of Fame ballot. Should I vote for Mark McGwire? Should I write in Greg Norton’s name?
• Bobby Cox is approaching his final season. Will he work extra hard on nicknames for this last go-around?
• Tech basketball: Like what you’ve see so far?
• A submission from Daniel: Does playing Jonathan Babineaux the same week he was arrested give lie to the Falcons’ claims of being a character-first organization?
• A submission from Heath: Kennesaw State football — great idea or non-starter?
• Does Frank Wren know what he’s doing? Will Derek Lowe be traded? Should Derek Lowe be traded?
• Will it get even better for Paul Johnson and Tech, or is 11-2 the summit?
OK, there’s 10 ideas. We can discuss all, some or none. But I will make one request: Having said that you’re free to ask anything/everything, I’ll affix one asterisk. I’d rather not talk about Michael Vick. I’m tired of that one. I expect you are, too.
And with that, the figuarative microphone is open. I’m listening, Seattle Atlanta. (Sorry. Watched “Frasier” one time too many.)

I realize GM’s like to pick their own coach, but if Woody’s Hawks win over 50 and make it back to Round 2 in the ridiculously top-heavy Eastern Conference, could Sund really hope to find a new coach worth tampering with the chemistry?

A GT question Mark. Tech’s woes on D are pretty obvious. Lack of depth and size up front and no coverage skills in the secondary. I’m not ready to throw Womack under the bus because of what he’s working with, but after watching Navy on Saturday, it appears that they have a rather polished and effective short/medium passing game. The lack of the same with GT is glaring. Gailey left good receivers at Tech. Is Nesbitt the issue there? Nesbitt has always been a “thrower” to me rather than a passer and obviously the substantial amount of time it takes to make a thrower a passer just isn’t spent in when a team runs the TO. However, Paul Johnson being nobody’s fool obviously realizes that he has to develop a short/medium passing game to compete with the better teams he will face. Is it obvious to him that Nesbitt just doesn’t have it in that regard and this is something that will come post Nesbitt? However, with no WRs or QBs of note begging to play at GT has Johnson waited too long to get that ball rolling. Minus a much better defense and some semblance of a short/medium passing game which in effect is ball control, could this system become it’s own worst enemy?

Will Kennesaw State naming Vince Dooley as the head of their football exploratory committee basically guarantee football there? Who’s going to tell coach it’s a bad idea? They say 2013 would be a target date to field a team? Think that’s doable?

Daniel, somehow I don’t think we are on the same page. Babs hasn’t been convicted of anything, merely charged, subject to further investigation and possible prosecution. Do you think the Falcons put him on the questionalble list for the Saints game because he really had a shoulder injury? No, they were sending a message, to him and the team. When the Falcons are in a position to address it they will.
I can promise you, if I was an owner of a NFL franchise, at these salaries, every player would be undergoing drug tests on a regular basis. How dare these men, given such gifts and opportunity, negate the efforts of so many people to attain this level of achievement and success. Our children hold you in high esteem, emulate you. At least if you screw it up please tell the kids not to.

I want to drop FSU and Clemson from the ACC and pick up SCAR and UCONN. SCAR just belongs there, it’s our sister state (NC) and the school has potential for academic excellence. UCONN is a so-=called sleeping giant. I’ve been on the campus several times, and I think it would be a great media draw for the ACC. I have nothing against FSU and Clemson, they just don’t “seem to fit”.

I would go after Withers and this is why. UNC arguably had best defense in country. Their offensive line was decimated from the beginning; they played defensive players on offense. Their defense was on the field almost all of the time and they still beat Miami, VaTech, UCONN, should have beat FSU and UNState. Lost big leads in last quarter when their defense wore down because it was 3-and-out for the offense. That’s why!

Alright I have heard lately is as soon as Lackey is signed, a Lowe deal will happen….well Lackey is signed…betcha Wren doesn’tget anything but a second rate bat and will chew on a bunch of Lowe’s salary that he overpaid for in the first place….Run Wren out of town as soon as possible…

Anyway…The Bobby Cox question should be: what stupid things might he do in 2010?
I like Martin Prado (i’m rooting for him), but he has a half season under his belt as a starter. What if he’s hitting 223 at the break? You know Cox is going to keep putting out there even if someone like perhaps Brooks Conrad is red hot.

The Falcons need 2 defensive ends…I mean 2 good ones. Abraham was great but they counted on an injury prone guy for 1 too many yrs and Anderson is big bust, holy cow all the guys we passed up to draft him. As I recall T. Moore was adamant about drafting that bum. Perhaps Sid will develop into decent DE. D. Morgan will be gone by the time we draft. With that said, if JC Spiller is on the board when the Falcons draft, they better take him.

I’d love to see a football program at KSU. Growing up right down the street from the college, I have seen where it has gone. The facilities have become wonderful and the athletics program is great. In the middle of Cobbb County, they will be able to get recruits. maybe not shooting off the ground, but it would work over time. I can’t wait to see this stadium that is being built, and really hope they do start the football program.

I’m a huge Georgia fan and graduate from UGA living in Athens. Hiring a big-name defensive coordinator would make a nice media splash, sure. But if the search concludes that a lesser-known individual has great qualities, knowledge, etc.–hire him! Then he’ll have media buzz later on after doing a good job!

Hey, how about I actually enter a comment for a change?
Alright, what the hell is up with this team? We sign a homerun leader from the minors?! What the F is that?
We let go two 30 year old bullpen arms for two arms born during the Nixon administration? How could we let go of the Cobra? He’s the Cobra. You don’t let the Cobra slither through your fingers like that… or something.
Is somebody stoned? There’s some bad acid going around the Braves front office.
I don’t even know anymore. I’m speechless. Nearly.

You know what the real tragedy that was Greg Norton in 2009? He made us all believe that Brooks Conrad was Shoeless Joe Jackson.
He’s just Brooks Conrad. Is he better than Greg Norton? Yes. Is he any better really than a Kelly Johnson for example? Who knows.
He was amazing for ten days in July and when he finally was brought back he was below average.
Greg Norton was so bad that we thought Brooks Conrad was better than good.
That’s just messed up.

rick sund, don’t hesitate, get mike woodson a contract extension now.also, braves, please bring in xavier nady, get rid of derek lowe(loser) or make a trade for an outfielder not only who can hit homers but has great defense and can run and steal bases also and put pressure on the other team’s defense with their speed.maybe jason heyward can fill the bill.we don’t need no over-the- hill outfielder but a young long time one

With the Braves Pitching, with an addition or two they could be good enough to win the Division or the Wild Card – with a good manager. But with Bobby Cox managing, forget it. With Cox managing, there is no way they can add enough players to make up for his management procedures and lack thereof – and for his continous blunders.

Mark: Last year you thought the Braves would win the NL East. I predicted third or fourth place. Where are you now? As Wren continues to demonstrate his incompetence (he is the Major Frank Burns of GM’s), I see the Braves finishing third or possibly second. This is based on how things stand today. With Spring looming, the concern is still offense and, as I see it, management has not improved the offense a lick from where we were at this point last year.
