Chattin’ live! Babineaux, coordinators, Woodson, Wren!

It’s live chat time, and we’ll keep going until 1 p.m. You’re free to ask anything and everything, but I thought I’d start the festivities with a few topic suggestions, some of which came from you. (Thanks!)

• Would Georgia be better served hiring a Big Name defensive coordinator or looking for a guy from a smaller school whose profile is substantially lower? Brian VanGorder came from Central Michigan, did he not? (Then again, so did Willie Martinez.)

• The Hawks are 17-6. Mike Woodson is a lame duck, at least at the moment. Should that be remedied soon, or would Rick Sund be better off waiting until May/June to work a new deal? (But what if Woodson becomes a hot commodity after leading the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals — don’t laugh — and leaves to take another job?)

• Can the Falcons win these final three games? Can they win another game? And if they end up 8-8 or worse, is the season a refutation of the Dimitroff/Smith Method? (I say no, but maybe that’s just me.)

• I have a Hall of Fame ballot. Should I vote for Mark McGwire? Should I write in Greg Norton’s name?

• Bobby Cox is approaching his final season. Will he work extra hard on nicknames for this last go-around?

• Tech basketball: Like what you’ve see so far?

• A submission from Daniel: Does playing Jonathan Babineaux the same week he was arrested give lie to the Falcons’ claims of being a character-first organization?

• A submission from Heath: Kennesaw State football — great idea or non-starter?

• Does Frank Wren know what he’s doing? Will Derek Lowe be traded? Should Derek Lowe be traded?

• Will it get even better for Paul Johnson and Tech, or is 11-2 the summit?

OK, there’s 10 ideas. We can discuss all, some or none. But I will make one request: Having said that you’re free to ask anything/everything, I’ll affix one asterisk. I’d rather not talk about Michael Vick. I’m tired of that one. I expect you are, too.

And with that, the figuarative microphone is open. I’m listening, Seattle Atlanta. (Sorry. Watched “Frasier” one time too many.)

If they can keep Peria Jerry healthy I think you get 1/2 a pass rusher there; he definitely made Beer Man better in his 2 games.

I don’t think we get instant help for secondary from the draft unless Berry slips to them. Chris Owens might be panning out but keep in mind they pulled off Foxworth and Williams (instant #1 corners). Both of those guys are bigger bodies than what we have.

Are there any “sleeper” dbs out there with some size?

What can be done to get rid of Wren? He’s proven he is way over his head (Lowe for $60M, net zero for Frenchy, signing of G Anderson -(worse outfielder in MLB, yes worse than Dunn), lack of movement on signing LaRoche, signing of extended contract for unproven KK,)

Heyward isn’t that guy, Chris. He’s a run-producer. But Jordan Schafer still might be.

Do you think the Falcons should go after Patrick Robinson at FSU. He has great speed and played man coverage all year with little to no safety help and played extremely well!

Any truth to the rumor that the MTSU DC will be coming to Athens?

The reason the Falcons played Mr. Jonathan Babineaux is they wanted to wuin. People who do not like Mr. Babineaux, Mr. Woods, Mr. Plaxico Burress, Mr. Vick, and Mr. Simpson are people who do not like winners. Just win baby! Losers have no friends. (What is that on Gaylord Perry’s glove. Looked like vaseline to me when i saw him play.)

Not really, Daniel. As sad as it is to say, there’s not a week that passes without some big-name athlete getting arrested. We’ve kind of gotten used to it.

Any news on Ex Braves pitcher Chuck James. I know he had elbow problems and was a free agent…..Any chance the Braves could resign him for a middle reliever role? He always seemed in control for 2 or 3 innings

Or you could say Jim. 86 wins most in 4 years. Depth at pitching which is a huge commodity, and an aggressiveness on the market. Plus, most other GMs and Baseball insiders think Wren is one of the best. And, the Braves are looking like another breakout season.

I think the offense, even with Ryan, let the team down, highlighting the defensive weaknesses. I feel the Douglas injury might have killed us as much as Turner. Couple times against the Saints Booker just couldn’t quite get separation from his man. Douglas would have wrecked havoc in those situations.

Saints will lose once they run into a hot QB.

Me thinks the Wildcat formation will be about as popular as a Wing T in the NFL in about a year.

Hopefully the NFL will quit jobbing the Falcons with their schedule and next year we can begin our two winning seasons back to back. Who else played four teams coming off bye weeks and played two games at the Meadowlands??? With the schedule and the injuries a 6 and 7 record is to be commended. Don’t tell me all teams have injuries, da,da,da, we have had more then our share.

I guess I was expecting more of a reaction to the Falcons lack of response. Especially, given this teams recent track record of covering for players and sticking their head in the sand. Isn’t this supposed to be the “new” Falcons?

Mark, who is the guy the Dodgers just traded. Braves missed a golden opportunity there for a legitimet leadoff hitter. By the way Clusters, Howie McCann has hitting instructor isn’t that bad an idea, the guy is a hoot to boot.

I think we could get Gonzo from SD for Freeman, Schafer, Minor and another pitching prospect…I would do that.

On the Falcons, we have a non-cap year ahead, time for Blank to open up that wallet. A lot of defensive woes could be taken care of. There are a bunch of good free agents for next year.

Geez people I’m BREAKING NEWS HERE!!! MARK PLEASE READ!!!

I’ve gotten word from a VERY credible source that Kirby Smart is very intrested in the job and there is more than a good chance that he could end up in Athens. A friend of mine who is a High School coach and former player of the 2000 Valdosta State football team in which Will Muschamp coached defense, said that after mingling with Muschamp and Smart at the Georgia State Championships this weekend at the Georgia Dome, Smart said he was interested in the possibilities of coaching in his home state. And get this Dawg fans, it is a better chance of him coming if Bama wins the NC. It would give him even more leverage when it comes to salary negotiations. He also said that he and Saban have had talks about the posibility of UGA coming after him and plan to match whatever offer UGA throws his way. It was also said that from this source that Smart said Saban although a great coach, is a work-a-holic and he didn’t have as much time with his family as he would like. This bodes well for Richt and his more family orientated coaching style. To draw my conclusion from this exchange, is that Bama is gonna try and match whatever UGA does, but in the end it’s gonna come down to where Smart wants to be, and from this info UGA could have their next DC. He also said discussions wouldn’t really start til after the title game.
