I still question Coach Johnson’s play calling at the end of both halves, but I don’t question him putting more emphasis on winning titles than any one specific game.

Although it hurts to lose to UGA, it doesn’t hurt as bad as the losses when our team wasn’t playing for something more than the fictitious state title and a .500 or sometimes better season.

I’ll agree the loss, paired with the Clemson loss to South Carolina, puts another blemish on the ACC Title game, but I’m still hyped to see a return game against the Tigers.

CPJ needs to parse his words carefully. With all the crowing Tech fans were doing over the week leading up to the GA game, does anyone REALLY think the game with GA was not deemed important? Yes, Tech won LAST year, but they couldn’t take care of business against a GA team that most of it’s fans gave no chance in Sat. night’s game. The Jackets “spit the bit,” as the saying goes. AL and FL will play what will be, for all intents and purposes, the REAL Nat’l. Championship game on Sat. night. The ACC will play their championship game in Tampa, probably before 30-40K fans. Neither of the participants “finished the drill,” and beat their in-state rival. The ACC Championship game has little luster at this point. The ACC has made good strides towards becoming a force in college football, but they are not in the same league as the SEC. The media market, etc. reflects the difference.

I am a UGA fan and I love to see us beat GT, however; if we were going to the SEC championship game this week, a loss to GT would not be the end of the world.

Every coach worth his salt, knows that he must first compete for his respective conference championship, period.

And concerning rivalries: UGA has FL, GT, TN, and AUBURN; the oldest rivalry in the south. If UGA focused on rivalries only they would never compete for a SEC or National Championship.

I disagree.
I should have taken Georgia and the points just as soon as he said it was just another game.
Paul Johnson was out-coached in the Wake Forest game, deserved to lose, but Morgan and Nesbitt would not let him.
I want to tip my hat to the Georgia bloggers who advised their gameplan vs Tech (power football) from the start of the year to no avail.
They should be the O coordinator but like me, don’t have the experience to get a job coaching their team.

Wow! How the worm has turned we go from the GT owning the state and the downfall of the “UGA” program to it really was not that big of a game?

The Tech program has grown since the arrival of CPJ that it can beat UGA every 4-5 years. The Tech/UGA game over the last decade has always been close with the Dawgs making the plays at the end to win.

UGA was down this year because of losses on the offensive side of the ball and poor defensive coaching. I really liked CMR personality last Saturday night – you get a personal foul penalty you sit!

The state of the UGA program is fine with talent coming and talent a;ready present. We do need to make a change at defensive coach and CMR needs to be more involved on the offense play calling.

UGA will compete for the east title next year and will have chance to defeat the BUGS once again!

Clemson in the Orange, GT in ??? and the Dawgs will take the best non new years day bowl CF Bowl.

Beating a SEC team goes further than beating any cupcake in the ACC in the minds of the BCS voters. Winning the ACC title does more for PJ pocket book incentive laden contract than in the eyes of real football fans. PJ knows the GT job is a intern position for a better coaching job, and his goal is to insist on trying to find the path of least resistence for a backdoor pass into a BCS bowl, because it helps his position.

Scrap, you actually think GT can win the Orange Bowl against Cincinnati or TCU after watching the UGA game. And God help you if by some twist of fate you had to play the SEC runner up. It might be better if you lose to Clemson and spare yourself the annual bowl beatdown that has become tradition at Tech. At least minimize that possibility by getting a game you could possibly win.

Just for the record, I didn’t like the rings – lead to the flat game vs LSU – nor have I ever liked tearing up the hedges for souvenirs. So though I did not like the Georgia players with gold terf, do to them and you’ll get it back.
And I knew Paul blew the Wake game and was saved by his team. In the replay when Nesbitt was sacked on 4th down, the camera caught a worried Paul Johnson.
Morgan’s sack saved him.
It might have been better to lose that game so maybe the coches would have to think a little.
We need a short pass game.
The 4th down play should have been called earlier.

This crap about winning a title outranking beating Georgia is absolute baloney. Dawgonit said it best: “It (the Georgia game) means enough that you have rings made with the score on it when you win. It doesn’t mean much when you lose.” Actions speak louder than words, Bradley, so we know the truth.

Also, Bradley: the ACC is an absolute joke: the two teams playing for the ACC Championship lost to SEC also-rans. And I’m not talking about losing to SEC also-rans early in the season as they each lost their most recent game, and an in-state rivalry game at that. This year the ACC Champion should be forced to give up their automatic BCS berth and become an at large team that MIGHT get picked for a BCS bowl.

Either way, I guess Saint Simons won’t be posting the score of this most recent UGA/G-Tech game for the next 11 1/2 months.

So much so that the Georgia game is simply a tune-up for the vaulted ACC Championship game. Maybe now a higher percentage of Tech fans are seeing Paul Johnson in a more realistic light. PJ has never emphasized defense. Check his history. His ego and that triple option offense are joined at the hip. Nothing else matters. It’s all about Paul. Between the better teams on your schedule at least figuring out how to slow down the TO and now knowing they can control the ball on Tech’s undersized D line, the losses are going to come with much greater frequency. You can’t win consistently at this level against good teams with 260lb D linemen. PJ got out coached the entire Wake game by Grobe until Wake got stupid like PJ did by throwing bombs when they had 3rd and shorts and should have been moving the chains. Another 1st down or 2 and Wake controls the clock and wins that game. And Mark Richt undressed PJ on national TV. Johnson’s system has some very big flaws that are going to continue to bite GT when they get into the bigger games on their schedule.

Our fan base needs to put things in perspective. We play in a conference that we could win every year and get an automatic bcs bowl bid. We can lose to UGA every year and still be a national program if we do that…PJ is right…its just a game. Look what BCS appearances have done for VT lately…every year they get a bunch of media hype and GT can be the same way. Its already becoming evident that we have gained respect…we are still ranked in the top ten. You dont see other fanbases like ours…auburn fans dont go suicidal when bama beats them or any other rival that I know of. We put way too much emphasis on beating UGA…it should be about getting that automatic BCS bowl bid for winning the conference.

Any Tech fan, coach or player that says that game didn’t matter if full of —-. As is any UGA player, coach, or fan who says that GT is not a true rival. We got it handed to us Saturday night and lost the game in the trenches. Wommack is a worse DC than Willie Martinez, which isn’t saying a whole lot for his future on the flats.

As a true GT fan, that one hurt real bad and there is NOTHING you can say about it. It is what it is. Lets just hope we don’t pack it in and instead come out swinging against Clemson. I see this as a false choice. Why can’t GT beat Georgia and be ACC champs? That would be a truly successful season. Otherwise, doing one or the other is a consolation–Hey, we didn’t beat Georgia but we’re going to the Orange Bowl! or Hey, we didn’t win the conference but at least we beat Georgia!
By the way, GT better beat Clemson or this season is a dud–no conference championship and a loss to the dreaded Dogs.

I must say I got my $ worth Saturday. It was a bit obvious that GT’s collective heads weren’t in the game from the start. You could also tell that PJ REALLY didn’t want to put Nesbitt back in the game. That takes me to my next point: I think the only way this game even matters much to either team going forward is if both are bad and have bad records going in, or if both are in the BCS and national title race going into it. This and many other non-conference rivalries don’t really work when one team has locked up a trip to their conference title game and the other has a mediocre season going in. That said, why did CPJ pass on FOUR straight downs. With 1:25 left (and TWO timeouts) and the game served up on a silver platter, why didn’t GT run the football. I can understand taking a shot on first down, but seriously… I haven’t questioned PJ much, but that one baffled me. Worst overall game (by far) Tech has played all year, including the Miami game. Hats off to the Dawgs, they definitely found the key to exploiting GT’s defense. I would also like to say, that I saw a lot fewer obnoxious UGA fans than I normally encounter. I appreciated that. UGA and Tech both fell victim to overlooking their opponents. UGA with Kentucky, and Tech with UGA. That is why they play the games.

The ACC conference is the weakest I have ever seen it. Yes I am a dawg fan but I also lived in Raleigh, NC for seven years back in the 90’s so I know first hand what the ACC used to look like. I went to a lot of different games that the Carolina schools played in. Of course my best friend I met up there played on Tech’s 1990 national championship team. So I went to many Tech games, much to my chagrin, free of charge though. Anyway back to my point about the ACC being a much better conference back in those days. Florida state won two national championships back in the 90’s. North Carolina had mack Brown and a slew of first round draft picks from their defense, not to mention a couple 10 win seasons. George Welsh was coaching the Cavaliers and had the Barber twins at one point. I think Virginia tied for the conference championship in 1995. Tech had Joe hamilton running a high powered offense that was a danger to anyone. N.C state had the great Torry Holt who had 5 touchdowns one night in Raleigh to upset the highly ranked seminoles. Clemson always had solid teams back in those days as well. Not trying to piss Tech fans off but nobody can deny that the ACC was pathetically weak this year. There is no way the 4th and 5th place SEC east teams would have beaten the top teams in the ACC back in that era. Ultimately the question going forward will be how Tech can compete if Miami continues to rise and Florida State can get back to being a dominant team. Can PJ still win ACC championships if the top teams in that conference become top programs again?

I loved every minute of it, but Tech is a very solid team, admittedly with a suspect defense (we know that feeling) that lost (narrowly) to an in-state rival. Tech has a very good season going and will be favored vs Clemson and probably in its bowl game. I think we Dawg fans would like the chance to have a 12-2 record. As the panel said last night on CSS with Bob Neal, let anybody walk in those locker rooms before the game, 8 of 10 would pick Georgia. Tech’s defense cost them that game and until Johnson takes that side of the ball serious, they will never make it to the big dance. Yes, the offense is impressive, but the worst Georgia team since 1980 beat the BEST Tech team since 1990. This is so hilarious and Mark… there was a point where I was under the impression that you were a good journalist! If you were, this story would have been printed before the game if indeed these were the facts. As it is, it is completely hilarious that the story changes AFTER they loose the game…

Great teams as we all were under the impression GT was, take care of business each week. Every game is important. They’re just back tracking now because they TALKED SO MUCH for 52 weeks and when game time came, they just couldn’t stand up to their own words.

Hell, if I had just lost to a then 6-5, middle of the SEC pack, in state rival, I’d say I was more interested in a “real title” too!! But let’s be “real”… after what SC did to Clemson and now UGA to Tech – how “real” is the ACC championship anyway?? Has Tech had a pretty good year? Yes. Is the ACC anywhere near the SEC top-to-bottom? No. Take comfort in knowing that you are competing for a conference title in a totally irrelevant conference. If I was a Tech fan that’s what I’d do.

Having watched CPJ for more years than most, I was at Ga Southern, I am damn sure he wanted both and would dismiss any thought of having to pick. He knows full well that losing to the DAWGS takes a lot of the luster off anything else that is accomplished this year. That said I am sure they will be ready to go on Sat and should handle Clemson.

First off, i would like to tip my cap to Paul Johnson and the Jackets on a fine season. I wish Georgia was 10-2 right now.

What a game! The intensity of this rivalry has been renewed and I think that it is great for both schools and the state.

If Tech wins the ACC and the Orange Bowl, I think alumni and students will be more than pleased with the season.

That Headline may be the stupidest thing you have ever written. All year long Johnson has preached “one game at a time” and saturday that wasn’t good enough. You can’t conpare the two games unless you are looking for an excuse or a reason how Georgia exposed an average defense that can’t stop the run. You win a conference title, that’s great because the players get to experience a BCS bowl but to beat Georgia is just as big because you win the recruiting war. The same goes for this weeks game. Yes, it’s for the conference championship but Clemson recruits heavy in the Atlanta area and in Florida and a big win for Georgia Tech might put a dent in that and down the road that win proves just as big.

Hey Mark, what headline are you going to use if Paul Johnson excepts the Notre Dame job?

Thanks Mark for posting something with some intelligent insight. 2 weeks ago the 2 teams involved in the ACC title game’s non-conference in-state rivalry games became insignificant. In the modern day of college football, success is graded on Titles and Bowl status. The majority of Go-Dawg nation considers a 2 win season a success – so long as those 2 wins are against Florida and Tech. Which is why UGA is and will forever be a 2nd rate (at best) team in an over-rated conference. I’m sure you will get to play a tomato can in the CFA bowl just so the ‘home’ team will sell some tickets at the dome and bask in mediocrity. The goal is to play another game in 2010. UGA is going backwards from that. Seasons like this will no longer yield 5-star recruits to be poorly coached, they will be 3-star poorly coached recruits. Then you fall into the area of UK. Oh wait. They are already ahead of you.

You GT fans are hysterical. Last year, when you didn’t win the ACC, you said beating Georgia was more important. Now, when you lose to Georgia, suddenly the Goergia game is unimportant. Here’s a clue, winning the ACC means nothing in the “big picture” that Johnson loves to talk about. And you’re never going to be a national program when half your stadium is filled with Georgia fans and you were scrambling to sell out the biggest game of your ACC season against Virgina Tech. An ACC Championship is ok but the ACC is definitely a 2nd level conference. South Carolina and GA are AVERAGE SEC teams that beat the best of the ACC.

Bill B @9:17 and others, last year beating UGA was more important because we hadn’t done it in so long. I’m not saying it wasn’t important this year, because it always is the single most important game in our regular season, but this year winning the conference is more important. That also doesn’t mean we didn’t try as hard or that there is any other excuse – UGA played a great game, their best of the season. We played average at best and still had a chance to win, so that’s a bright spot for us. I congratulate UGA on their victory, but I wouldn’t trade 10-2 and playing in a conference championship game for 7-5 and beating the in-state rival. Next year maybe we can do both.

GT45 – that is a really good question that is hard to answer. It depends greatly on what we do about leadership(coaching) on defense. We need a solid QB no doubt. In short, I think we will be better next year. We have a LOT of young talent tat will mature from this year.

I still haven’t seen him try to explain his play calling at the end of the game the other night…is he that much of a pompous a$$ he thinks he’s above stating the obvious…he blew it! Its as simple as that…he got out coached because he thought that he could out coach CMR….the Dawgs gave Tech a taste of their own medicine…they ran it down their throats..over and over again. I am a diehard Jacket and will always be such, GA won the game and they deserved to win, however I am sick and tired of the idiot GA fans who throw up the fact that the ACC champion would be like 3rd place SEC well guess what stupid 3rd place SEC is still better than where the dogs finished which is 5th place overall SEC and 3rd place in the east. No one is saying that beating Georgia isn’t big, And important. And the loss hurts. But I would take a Coastal Division title over a UGA win every year, if given a choice. And I’ve been consistent in saying that all along. I didn’t change my mind at 11:30 last Saturday night.

We are not UGA. The ACC is not the SEC. In my opinion, the Bulldogs may always have a recruiting advantage in the state, and a financial advantage as well. The SEC is on top of the football world, and that’s not changing in the near term. (Not that I’m predicting the long term, it’s just that I wouldn’t ever say “never.”)

I don’t want to be a UGA fan. That won’t change if UGA wins the next 100 in a row, by 100 point margins. I don’t want to be a SEC fan. That won’t change if the conference somehow loses its BCS conference standing.

It’s a diverse world; there’s room for all varieties of programs.

Agree wholeheartedly Mark! But the fact is a loss to UGA takes the “love” out of the season. 11-1 with a win over UGA had us brimming with confidence and indeed going to Tampa!!! But in all honesty the loss has dampened our sails. My three tickets to Tampa are now for sale and my family will save the money in a down economy to have some other family fun and will watch the game from home. We attended every home game and two away games this year (MSU and Vandy) but this loss just really hurts with credibility. Sure we can be ACC champs but we did not win our own state. We can’t duck that. I will still attend the bowl game but a 10+ hour drive with no holiday time off and the loss to UGA just make it too difficult to attend the Championship game. I bet I am not the only fan from Tech or Clemson that has purchased the tickets and will flood the market today.

Paul Johnson has the right idea. The problem with UGA has been the philosophy coming down from the coaches. They down play having a goal of being the best team in the country so much that there is ZERO intensity. I have heard Mark Richt say our only goal is to get to the SEC Championship game, do you think that is Urban Meyer’s only goal, or Nick Saban’s only goal? Georgia Tech is closer to UF and Bama just by virtue of their coaches outlook on things.

If Florida lost a game or Bama lost a game they still have the ultimate goal of being National Champion so they move on and prepare for the next one, UGA however is not bigger than one game they have a narrow outlook and lack the vision from the top of having a larger goal outside of their rivalries or their conference. Bottom line is UGA fans can gloat here and that’s all they want, but if GT wins out the college football world will recognize them. The world remembers who won the Orange Bowl, not who beat that team in November.

The Dawgs were able to run the ball like they did because of the team they were playing. This same offensive gameplan would not have worked versus teams with a decent defense (any SEC team). But hopefully we will make more of an effort next year to stick to the run while we break in a Redshirt QB. Lord knows we are going to need it to take the pressure off.

This year’s victory proves the follwing:

-Tech can beat Georgia 1 out of 10 years.
-90% of the time Georgia’s worst year is better than Tech’s best year.
-Terrence Moore sucks about as bad as Tech Footall.
-There is nothing like 25,000 Tech Dorks leaving their crappy stadium early.
-Paul Johnson and Tech can go play for the ACC Championship along with Clemson, because these 2 teams could not beat SEC schools during bad years. However they are the best that the ACC has to offer.
-The last time Tech was a favorite in the UGA game was 22 years ago.
-I rather watch the Big East Championship than the ACC Championship
-Also do we have to read articles about how Paul Johnson rather win the ACC Championship than beat UGA. The fact is this moron had rings made for their win last year when Tech had not won this game in 7 years. The fact is Paul would have given anything to beat UGA. Tech’s defense is in critical condition and its defensive coach is a blind doctor who graduated from a Caribbean diploma mill. Tech does not get worked up over a loss to Georgia because that’s a loss they pencil in every year. Last year was the fluke game they get to win and now it’s back to normal.

UGA won 7 in a row–and then Tech sneaks out of Athens with a 3 point win after a high scoring shootout and then they think they will win every year. UGA has won 8 of the last 9 and–if I’m not mistaken–33 of the last 45. Except for the 3 year streak a while back and the 8 year streak several decades ago, UGA wins this game year in and year out. CPJ acts like he doesn’t care about losing to UGA because he knows losing to UGA is one of Tech’s finest traditions.

By the way, when do the signs change to “Historic Mark Richt Field” at Tech? I want to make sure I’m there for the unveiling!

Do you really call an ACC Title a “real” title. No one cares about the ACC Football program. Ask Jacksonville, and ask Tampa after this week. Ask ABC after they try and get any ratings at all going up against the SEC Championship game. Ask the Orange Bowl if they want to get out of their ties with the ACC? Whether we win or lose Saturday to Clemson, we still have the RIGHT coach that is putting us on the right path. I love the way he coaches and what he instills in our players. If Gailey was still here, we would have beaten by 40, instead of playing really bad on defense, but still having a chance to win the ballgame in the end.

As far as the conference comparison, I guess GT would finish higher in the SEC than the dogs because we have a better winning percentage than the dogs in the SEC, we are 2-1 and they are 4-4. So, we are better in the SEC than they are. My comparison is about as stupid as yall’s on here about uga being the ACC Champions!!!

Now all of a sudden, the UGA game doesn’t matter after we beat the crap out of Tech!! It matters MORE than the ACC championship to everyone at Tech including PJ. He is just downplaying it now because he doesn’t want his team to have a hangover from the GA game. Ugaly, We know about the 17 million dollar payouts in the BCS, we have been to 3 of them in the past 6 years remember. Oh, and the highest paid outside the BCS the Capital One at 6 million last year. How must pay did Tech get for the 3 Humanitarian Bowls in Boise, The Emerald Nut Bowl in the baseball stadium in San. Fran, the Seattle Bowl (Now bankrupt) the Silicon Valley Classic? There is no arguing with a Georgia fan because they change their stance to never be wrong. Do you HONESTLY believe Tech will care about this game if they still accomplish everything they set out to. If they win the ACC and the Orange Bowl do you think they will only remember losing to Georgia?

UGA’s narrow mindedness is shown in the fact that Tech can play in a BCS game and Georgia will be content just saying they beat Tech. Do UGA fans sit around and think about 2005 and remember losing to Florida or do you remember winning the SEC and playing in the Sugar Bowl? I know as a Florida fan we have plenty of 2006 and 2008 Championship t-shirts but im pretty sure Auburn and Ole Miss don’t have many 2006 and 2008 we beat Florida t-shirts. FSU remembers an ACC title and an epic Orange Bowl in 2005 not getting blown out if the building in late November by Florida, because in the grand scheme of things it was meaningless both programs at the time had bigger goals than winning one game. The world remembers how the teams finish in the rankings, only Athens remembers a narrow victory by a 7-5 team in November, fortunately many UGA fans don’t know a world outside of North Georgia.

Vandalay, The point is that UGA fans are both disappointed and mad about this year. That is the difference between Tech and UGA fans. We look at this year and are calling for heads because we aren’t content going to the Chick Fil A bowl like Tech was celebrating last year. Tech has been very content going to piss poor bowls on the West Coast and Boise for years. If you are truthful you know Ga. Tech wants to beat UGA. Just like the year we were 13-1 and lost to Florida, it still pisses me off. The same holds true for 2007 and losing to a bad S. Carolina team and ending up #2, when we could have won the NC that year easily the way we were playing the end of the year. The point, if you are OK with losing to UGA and then winning a horrible ACC Championship and going to your one BCS game, you will never move forward. Winning a NC means ALL games are important. Remember this one, UGA on the recruiting front gains from every win over Tech locally, so you should remember it. Also, while the country is watching the SEC championship Saturday and no one is watching the ACC Championship, think about which conference the recruits want to play in. A half filled, nearly unwatched ACC or a 8 hour pre-game, 75K seat full GA. Dome and #1 and #2? Yeah and the GA. Dome is too small for SEC Games.

Let’s just say this: UGA will be back and we wouldn’t be satisfied with a 10-2 mark next year. We won’t a NC, not just a BCS berth. Oh, and did you check the rankings from last year and 7 years previous? Let’s see, Tech is in there twice, UGA in the 8 times, 6 in the Top 10. And after we beat Virginia Tech and make them 0-2 against the SEC this year, we will be ranked in the Top 25 for this year. So funny!

In other UGA news… I see one of your high school recruits got in trouble and will miss a playoff game, Thanks for keeping things consistent. Anothter prized crop of trouble makers who play dirtier than any other team around…then have the gall to cry about Spikes and so called eye gouge. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Plenty of dirty plays Saturday night and let us not forget about the guy drilling Tebow long after he handed the ball off in that little massacre in Jacksonville. Sadly, the SEC refs must be used to UGA and their dirty little tricks and don’t even bother calling it all any more. They know the game would never get played. The TV people have complained there is no action, just a bunch of yellow flags on the field play after play.

I think it’s funny to hear the Tech fans justify thier season by talking about playing in the ACCCG this weekend. It must hurt to know that you may be conference champs, but you aren’t better than UGA!

Last year, UGA had the better record, better ranking and the better bowl game and all we heard was that Tech won the game. This year, UGA wins the game and suddenly the big picture is what it’s all about. You guys are nuts!

Bradley, hard to take this article seriously. We all know that Paul Johnson doesn’t think the UGA game is a big deal… but I’d bet that if you canvassed GT fans, 90% would say that the ACC title means nothing to them if they lose to Georgia. They’re already saying it. Paul Johnson simply doesn’t “get it.” Tech’s season is ruined in the eyes of their fans. PJ is going to find out soon just how much the UGA game means. He’s already beginning to find out.

Great comments. As I have told my UGA friends, that was a quality win by the dawgs and should put a brighter note on the season. They had a game plan and executed it to perfection. Congratulations.

To those UGA fans that brag about the 8 of 9 wins, it would be in your best interest to swap wins with Tech more often than that. A stronger tech team only helps UGA football by boosting their strength of schedule perception. More national recognition for our rivalry game would only help each program. Since the game only slightly impacts recruiting between the two school, negatively impacting future teams would not be dramatic. While I absolutely hate the lose, I am glad the rivalry has gained back some of its luster. Lets hope it is further strengthened next year with a Tech victory! Go Jackets!

sometimes you have to loose a battle to win the war. i for one would rather win the war. i know how it feels to have a bad season and win over uga and think we just won the championship. and this is how uga feels right now. i think i would want to win championships than just a single game. and uga does feel the same way, but right now want admit it. they won a battle, but have lost the war. just because the sec has two teams rated 1 and 2 doesnt mean that the sec dominates football. i for one am watching a shift in power that is slow to develop, but develop it is. so relish in your win, while you watch the team you beat go to the bcs. i am sure that if we have a bad season that a win over uga will feel good. i know that while we are building a program, we will have some looses that will hurt. but i can get over the hurt by winning the war. go jackets.

Every Tech fan knows this was the biggest game of the season to us. I wished ya’ll would stop making us look bad and just take the medicine the same way they had to last year. All we can do know is look forward to next year and hope it don’t happen again.

I hope MR woke up and realized that GA is a power running football team. I really enjoy the spinning of the bugs that the UGA game is nothing more than a “non-conference” game. The best the ACC had to offer Saturday got beat by UF, SC and UGA. The best the ACC is only 4th or 5th in any SEC division. Let the bugs schedule ALA, AUB, FLA, SC, KEN, TENN, MISS, MSTATE, ARK, etc every year and I would submit that they might win once, twice in a good year. Put your slide-rulers where the sun does not shine!

Well boys, we just got our butts kicked by a 6-5 middle of the pack SEC team. We had two weeks to prepare for this game and we looked like we had two days. But let’s put this all behind us BECAUSE WE HAVE BIGGER FISH TO FRY!
I don’t care about beating UGA because we did it last year and I have a ring to prove it.
I don’t care about beating UGA without Nesbit because he did it last year. That’s why I sent him to the training room in the 1st qtr and had him shot up to finish the game.
I don’t care about beating UGA by throwing the ball 4 straight times at the end of the game. We beat them last year(as the ring says) by running the ball, so I wanted to beat them this year by throwing the ball.
I don’t care about beating UGA. It is not like they are Army or somebody.
I don’t care about beating UGA, because winning the ACC is better. (you get two rings with that. division and conference)
So you see boys, I have this program right where I want it. 11-2 with Coastal div champs and ACC champs has a nice RING to it.
See you in Tampa and bring your own tartar sauce for the fish fry.

You Jackets fans who only care about this game are ridiculous. It’s one game! It’s a non-conference game! It’s sure nice to win, but guess what? They didn’t do anything to us nationally. GT is still top 10 and UGA is unranked, GT is still getting a chance to play for a BCS bowl and UGA is playing for care care in crappy Detroit (Maybe Stafford will grace them with his losing presence), we are playing for a championship and UGA is at home watching Florida do the work again and reveling in one good win against GT, and GT can finish in the top 5 and start out the preseason a hell of a lot higher than UGA.

We can go on to the Orange Bowl to beat a TCU or Boise, which is something Bama and Oklahoma couldn’t do. They couldn’t beat the busters. Well GT can set the bar and push them right back into their hole.

GT is top 10 > UGA is unranked and irrelevant

If CPJ is worried about the “bigger prize” why did he have state championship rings made up last year? I know last year when we beat South Carolina, I did not have state championship rings made. I don’t think Mark Richt did it in 7 years when he beat tech before losing to them last year, and I do not think he would be classless enough to do it this year.

It’s ok, GT it was a nonconference game that did nothing to derail GT. It’s just bragging rights. We are in no worse position nationally than before no matter what the outcome was. GT could have won, we’d still be number 7. We lost we’re number 10. Big deal.

Paul Johnson is right. It’s one game. We are here to win championships and UGA is irrelevant as far as that goes. They did nothing to deter that. All the national media says is it was a rivalry game and these things happen…nothing more, nothing less.

Georgia played a great game as did Tech. If Georgia continues to play at that level ,and I think Tech will only get better, these games will mean a lot more in the future on the national level. This may be the first complete game Georgia has played this year. The reason Tech is playing so well is because they refused to be mediocre. I think if we had beaten Georgia every other year we would still have Gailey and not be on the stage we are on. I think in the same light we have made Georgia come out with their talent. You are not going to beat Tech anymore just mailing it in, which is good for Georgia, now they know how good they can be. This will become a premier match with a lot of marbles riding on it in the future, but for 2009 Tech has bigger fish to fry.

Last season, the dawgs were a preseason #1 and didn’t even sniff a shot at their own conference championship. They fell WAY short of expectations! This season, the dawgs started out #13 and aren’t within sniffing distance of the top 20….see the pattern? The ONE thing that has brought all of the pup fans back out is the upset win over Tech….it’s okay….welcome back! Even with this loss, Tech is getting closer to adding another championship trophy to their collection….we’re even closer to adding another National Championship trophy than you are….face it, THAT’S what’s driving you all nuts…as it SHOULD! How many great teams do ya’ll need before you win another one?! It was a good win last Saturday night….I make no excuses…. we lost to an inferior team…. it happens…. happens enough that they’ve given it a name…upset. In the end, Tech is moving in the right direction and the dawgs just end up hitting their heads on the ceiling of ‘almost’. Anyway, welcome back!
