"Just look at those waffle fries falling from the sky!" (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
From Shreveport, La., to Northside Drive? According to Chris Lowe of ESPN.com, Georgia is apt to be invited to the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which if memory serves is played here in Atlanta. (Full disclosure: I’m sitting in the Dome as I type.) Here’s Lowe’s rationale:
“The Outback gets first choice out of the [non-BCS SEC teams] East and the Cotton first choice out of the West after the Capital One selects. But since Ole Miss went to the Cotton Bowl last year, there may be a deal worked out where the Rebels go to the Outback this year and Tennessee to the Cotton. The Vols finished in a tie with Georgia for second place in the East, but beat the Bulldogs head-to-head.
“The Chick-fil-A Bowl also has a tough choice. South Carolina became a lot more attractive with its win over Clemson. But with Georgia beating Georgia Tech, there will be a lot of pressure to keep the Bulldogs close to home there in Atlanta. Plus, Georgia beat South Carolina head-to-head and finished a game better than the Gamecocks in the SEC standings.”
Me, I’m not so sure. I think there’s a chance Georgia ends up in Nashville. But there are so many 7-5 SEC teams — six, if you’re counting, four of them from the Eastern Division — that these middle-tier bowls could wind up drawing names out of a hat.

I think Lowe has it about right. Considering the economy, I think the “mid tier bowls” will be a little more strategic about team selections more than ever.
BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. BCS team
Allstate Sugar Bowl: Florida vs. BCS team
Capital One Bowl: LSU vs. Big Ten team
Outback Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Big Ten team
Cotton Bowl: Tennessee vs. Big 12 team
Chick-fil-A Bowl: Georgia vs. ACC team
Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl: South Carolina vs. ACC team
Autozone Liberty Bowl: Arkansas vs. Conference USA team
Advocare Independence Bowl: Auburn vs. Big 12 team
Papajohns.com Bowl: Kentucky vs. Big East teamhink Lowe has it about right.

MB, i didn’t hear any post-game stuff last night. .
did anyone ask Johnson about the 4 consecutive throws at the end? As a Dawg fan, I was not surprised by the first shot, but the second one was a shock. . . then third again. . .
was there any explanation or was it basically about “we liked the match up” stuff?

That is a good one Mark, I’m still thinking that wherever UGA goes, we will love them til the end, and most of all, we will never give up. I think UGA needs to go to somewhere else, and we were just there yesterday for the Tech game, we were in Nashville for the Vandy game, and we were in Ok City of the OSU game. I’m thinking non-traditonal thought here, and it would be better for UGA to go to Dallas, and UT to go to the Outback, SC to the Peach, but money will talk. I don’t see a 7-5 UGA team anywhere east of Birmingham!

Has CFB in the state of Georgia been changed by this one game? What does this game tell us about Paul “ManBoobs” Johnson if he is out coached by Dumb and Dumber? I mean, we have read all year how there is a “New Sheriff” on The Flats and UGA’s staff couldn’t get out of their own way. The two programs were supposed to flipped, all based one game last November.
Perhaps there will be a few lessons learned by the Maggot faithful and a couple of AJC columnist, but I doubt it. Oh well, now GA can focus on getting this thing back on the rails and then start settling some scores. Well, as for that last objective, I guess we can cross one name off the list.

Here goes the excuses. UGA fans are fair weather fans. What a joke. Check out GT sales before last year and now. That reveals the truth. GT is a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. In terms of a rematch, does GT have enough healthy players? You were falling like flies or bugs. No toughness. Welcome to the best conference in the nation. i guess Clemson wants a rematch against USC too. You lost, deal with it. UGA whipped the bugs in Atlanta without our best player. No excuses. Your team lost to the vastly superior program. What happened to all the trash talkers? A week ago you had all these GT fans posting on UGA recruiting blogs. Now, they are posting under UGA names to try to instigate issues. GT is a pathetic and an inferior school with clueless fans. Go DAWGS. Since you like numbers, answer this question. How many times has GT defeated UGA in the last 10 year? Deal with the truth. Your team was revealed as a vastly overrated team. Who has the best coach? Coach Richt won. Coach Martinez stopped the great offense.

I am tired of all the Tech fans saying it was a dirty hit on Nesbitt last night. In that offense, the QB gets hit on 90% of the downs. He was trying to get extra yardage. What was UGA suppose to do, let him get it? Football is a game of inches and all the UGA defenders were trying to do, was push him back. What about when the GA Tech offense chop blocks in that offense and tries to take out the legs/knees of the defenders? I don’t hear the other team complaining. UGA didn’t have their #1 receiver in A.J. Green and they still run and up down the field on Tech. Get over it. UGA is the dominant State program and always will be. They have been since Dooley took over in 1964 and which eventually led to Bobby Dodd’s retirement. Tech will win a couple in a row against UGA but will never dominate the series. UGA has too much talent and a wayyyyyy bigger fan base.

Dave In Tampa, while I agree completely with your assertion that Ga. needs a Charlie Strong “type” DC, the fact is there are a hellava lot more teams that need a DC like coach Strong than there are coaches like him and probably none are available. However, I do wish Ga. could find a DC that could give the Dawgs a ligit chance to win the east again. Dawgs & Tide in future SECCG. Congrats on the win last night.

I will always call it the Peach Bowl. Unless the salty chicken sandwich company pays me to call it after their company name.

For the past 13+ weeks we have been treated (I use that word euphemistically) to an assortment of “why the ACC is better than the SEC” as well as the inane “45-42 hahahahahahaha” and on and on from some of the Technoids. Well, so much for the “superiority” of the ACC let alone Tech. To all of you who spent countless hours trashing the Dawgs. Let me just say it this way: STFU!

The fact is, I didn’t (sniff) care about the Georgia (sniff sniff) game. We’re still (rubs eyes) going to the ACC Championship (sniff).
