Bradley’s Buzz: ESPN’s Lowe sees UGA in the Chick-fil-A

"Just look at those waffle fries falling from the sky!" (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

From Shreveport, La., to Northside Drive? According to Chris Lowe of ESPN.com, Georgia is apt to be invited to the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which if memory serves is played here in Atlanta. (Full disclosure: I’m sitting in the Dome as I type.) Here’s Lowe’s rationale:

“The Outback gets first choice out of the [non-BCS  SEC teams] East and the Cotton first choice out of the West after the Capital One selects. But since Ole Miss went to the Cotton Bowl last year, there may be a deal worked out where the Rebels go to the Outback this year and Tennessee to the Cotton. The Vols finished in a tie with Georgia for second place in the East, but beat the Bulldogs head-to-head.

“The Chick-fil-A Bowl also has a tough choice. South Carolina became a lot more attractive with its win over Clemson. But with Georgia beating Georgia Tech, there will be a lot of pressure to keep the Bulldogs close to home there in Atlanta. Plus, Georgia beat South Carolina head-to-head and finished a game better than the Gamecocks in the SEC standings.”

Me, I’m not so sure. I think there’s a chance Georgia ends up in Nashville. But there are so many 7-5 SEC teams — six, if you’re counting, four of them from the Eastern Division — that these middle-tier bowls could wind up drawing names out of a hat.

I read in the Atlanta J-C a couple of weeks ago that Paul Johnson was the second coming of Bear Bryant. I can’t remember who wrote that, but he appears to be a genius now. I’ve read on the blogs all year that there is a “new sheriff in town”. My question is – Where was he Saturday night?

gatech12, yes things are back to normal in the state of Georgia. What kind of contract extension will PJ get for that game Saturday? What style of rings did you order for that one? Fluke? Oh no! Look out your window there goes Caleb for ANOTHER 75 yards. OR wait was it Washaun blurring the #24? Chop blocks, blahhhhh, you play mean, waaahhh! You got your arses handed to you so quit whining. You guys beat us by 3 last year “barely” and called it an a$$ whoopin for a solid year. Well double that on you this year.

ACC Champions = 4th place in the SEC East.

You tech losers, who acted like you had won the natioanl championship last year after your fluke win (see rings and constant score reminders), be reminded that all is right with the world of college football in Georgia again. I used to just be relieved when we beat the bumbles time-after-time, but I actually really enjoyed this one.

Congrats to the Dawgs. You deserved to win on Saturday although I’m sorry to see the Jackets lose focus on what could have been a magical season. As it is, they still have lots to play for.

I haven’t read much of these blogs but it does appear that the UGA faithful are trying hard to catch up on the previous 12 months of taunts from Jacket fans. I’m not one of them by the way. Tech has a large alumni group here in Silicon Valley and we had about 60 people at Jillian’s on Saturday. We didn’t get the result that we were looking for but it was still a great event.

To all my fellow Jacket fans in Atlanta, hang in there! The Dawgs are enjoying some celebration and some payback. I must say that we are lucky out here. The Bay Area and Silicon Valley are Dawg-free zones. We never have to see the G-logo out here and Tech fans are everywhere, and highly respected locally. Looking forward to seeing my fellow Jackets in Tampa on Saturday. Go Jackets!

I disagree with Lowe. We are headed to Nashville.

Chick-fil-a does not want a rematch with VA Tech and there is no way to exclude VA Tech from this game.

South Carolina and VA Tech is an intriguing matchup. I see the Dawgs playing the Heels in Nashville.

Outback can take a team from the west, but only after the Cotton has it’s choice of the west first. Looks like all the talk about the Cotton and Outback switching picks (Tennessee for Ole Miss) had very little to do with the Cotton. Looks like the Outback really wanted a team from the west and not Tennessee.

Good record against tech yes. Lets look at the SEC- We have owned you winning 19 of 30. You are 14 and 15 against Auburn and 9 and 13 against TENN. Maybe you should move the the A She She so you can compete for something other than 3rd place in your division!!!!
