The ideal Christmas gift for a Dawg fan? Not this. (Photo by M. Bradley)
Understand: In my entire life, I have never thought of Bobby Dodd Stadium as the Joke by Coke, but seeing as how I’m tasked with chatting live tonight from a Georgia perspective I thought I’d get in the spirit. But that, I should report, is where it ends. No cracks about John DUI-berry. Or Reggie Ball. (Well, maybe only one or two.) Everything else will be straight down the middle. Fair and balanced, as we say here at Fox News.
And we at Fox News have learned that the Ol’ Ball Coach doubled the score on young Dabo of Swinney, which has the effect of doing two things near and dear to Georgia fans’ hearts. First, it devalues the ACC title game, in which the North Avenue Trade School — sorry, couldn’t t resist just one more — will take part, and it also offers further proof that the ACC isn’t exactly a fortress of a league.
South Carolina entered having lost five of 11 games, same as Georgia. South Carolina had lost to Georgia by four points on Sept. 12, two days after Georgia Tech beat Clemson by three. So comparative scores were pretty close. (Not that comparative scores tell us much, but hear me out.) And today the Evil Genius whipped his in-state rival 34-17.
Can it happen in another state championship game? Honesty compels me to say I don’t think so, but I’ve been wrong about this game twice in the past three years. I figured Tech would handle Georgia in 2006 given that the Jackets were ranked and headed for the ACC title tilt — sound familiar — and the Bulldogs had needed an upset of Auburn just to get to 7-4. And I figured Georgia would still be too much for the Jackets were — for a half. Then things changed.
I see Georgia scoring some points on Tech. I see Tech scoring a lot more on Georgia. I’ve been saying 42-27 for two weeks, and yesterday I asked you kind folks for your thoughts on the matter. At last check, the semi-consensus among respondents was that the Jackets would win big or Georgia would win close. I’d bet on the latter if I bet. Which I do not. So feel free to disregard my gambling advice.
Please also feel free to join us as we discuss the game from a Georgia angle tonight. I’ll be here until it ends, which I figure will be at 11:29 p.m. EST. And it had better be. My print deadline is 11:30. But that’s problem, not yours. And I look forward to your company on what promises to be an intriguing night.

Georgia has the talent but not the heart I am sorry to say. Hopefully the “D” will play hard for Willie is what they may think is his last game and they play above themselves. If our D line can come to play and collapse the line then the option game may sputter a bit. With have many seniors who know this is their last chance so maybe, just maybe they come to play. Why is when we Dawg fans say we are going to lose because a) we can’t tackle, b) we are undisciplined, c) we turn the ball over, etc that somehow we are making excuses. We are just not that good. And that is not an excuse. That said, we could still win this game if we play near perfect and/or Tech has a bad game. No doubt about it.
Oh yeah, and Yech fans, don’t spend all week telling us how crappy our team is and then go beating your chest about winning if you’re able to to it. Can’t have it both ways.
Here’s to a clean game, free of controversy. Lord help us if there is a bad call for one of the teams. Either the Tech fans will be saying the refs are cheating for us or Dawg fans will be saying the refs are out to get’em.
Let’s hope both teams play a hard game and leave it all on the field. Bout time to pop a coldy.

Mark you always give kudos for first. Even when someone types the word first just to be first. It’s the moral equivalent of Florida playing a NAIA school.
Yet knowing full well those who take the easy way out might beat me to the punch, I get your blog yesterday started off with a combo of Tech meme, Bulldog angst, and a cultural icon reference as follows:
“Anticipating the unrelenting rushing attack Tech will unleash on Georgia, in a nod to Tech’s Trekkie fans, and most importantly, in a face saving gesture to CMR, Tech has agreed to convert rushing totals from yards to parsecs, so it won’t look quite so embarrassing on the Bulldog stat sheet. A total show of class from CPJ.”
Sure, I could have typed the word first and took the safe way out. But not unlike CPJ in the Wake Forest game, I went for it. Yet I get totally shut out by the Bradley computer, which has devastated my BCS (Blogging Championship Series) chances.
Mark, this has become much bigger than yesterday’s first post. It is no less a moral imperative, that we must, as a just and fair people, honor SOS (strength of screed) on this blog as much as we need to honor strength of schedule in college football.
Not to unduly pressure you, but I don’t think it’s too much to suggest the entire fate of western civilization rests squarely on your keyboard.
I trust you’ll do the right thing.

I can’t decide if there’s a kind of depression, or a kind of serenity that comes from knowing what will happen tonight.
Knowing we will lose, and thanks to Martinez, lose big tonight has to make it easier than if this were a nail-biter, right?
I mean, let’s say, just by accident, because we know he couldn’t do it on purpose, that Joe Cox manages to get us a lead with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game.
We know we’re still going to lose, right? Fabris will tell Walsh to kick the ball to the 50 yard line. Then, on the second play, Nesbit will run 50 yards for a TD, leaving just enough time for Cox to get the ball back and throw his 5th INT of the game.
We’re talking about the defensive genius who let Vandy drive 60 yards for the winning field goal IN Sanford Stadium by calling his favorite soft zones, helping Jay Cutler get drafted in the 1st round.
We’re talking about the guy who single-handedly turned mediocre QBs in college like Erik Ainge and John Parker Wilson into NFL draft picks when they should have just been free agents, by calling his favored soft zones.
We’re talking about the guy who made the worst QB in the SEC, John Crompton, look like Peyton Manning this year by, once again, calling his favored soft zones.
We’re talking about a guy who used his last two bye-weeks to prepare his defense to get destroyed by 45 and 41 points.
I’m betting Willie is gonna give up a double-nickel tonight.
Bugs – 55 Dawgs – 4 (we get two safeties).

Bill Dillard having moved this Court pursuant to ocga 9-11-56 for judgment as a matter of law that Jacket Lawyer is a pencil neck brief case carrying candy ass associate whose only contact sport is when he had a waitress fight at the Varsity, and it appearing not only that good cause exists for granting Bill Dillard’s motion because the Court has long taken judicial notice of the fact that the waitress kicked Jacket Lawyer’s arse in the case of Jacket Lawyer v. Luverne, but also under the doctrine of res ipsa loquitor (his pansiness speaks for itself), it is hereby ORDERED ADJUDGED abd DECREED that Jacket Lawyer is in fact a pencil neck brief case carrying candy ass associate whose only contact sport is when he had a waitress fight at the Varsity. When it was pointed out that it wasn’t humans abusing the bulldogs, but in fact a hive of yellow jackets, the PETA members looked at each other quizzically, decided to let nature take its course, and quickly departed the proceedings.

based on clemson/s.c. game, and other SEC biases that I harbor, I think UGA’s defense will be faster than most of what Tech has seen, particularly on the line and linebackers. Seriously. That being said, the secondary is not coached to cover guys for some unfeasible reason, and all the team speed UGA still has won’t stop them from
A. turning the ball over
B. committing a bevy of penalties.
So after seeing what Gamecocks did to Clemson, I now only think Tech wins 37-24.

That might just work!
Explain to me again, Mark Richt, why you think Joe Cox gives you the best chance to win? Aaron Murray could hand the ball off, too, and maybe actually throw the ball to his own players and not the other team’s.
A totally wasted year thanks to Richt’s loyalty to The Red-Headed Turnover Menace.
This horrible year is wasted because unlike in 2006, we couldn’t even get a new QB prepared for the future.

I’ve watched the first quarter and UGA looks like the UGA of old. They wear you down with that large size front. And when Nesbitt went out with that limp I got more worried. The mutts have not a had a complete game all season, and they are due one. Its early but it looks like UGA has the momentum to get it done tonight. O well if the mutts win I’m not gonna lose any sleep over. Nor will I start complaining about playcalling and telling Tech to fire everybody. ITS JUST A DAMN BALL GAME.

The OL hasn’t blocked this well since Vince Dooley stalked the sidelines. Ealey is chewing up real estate. Do you wonder what Richt was thingking all season long? Whoever is calling the plays, please don’t allow Cox to throw too many times, lest we remember Kentucky. Run the ball. Keep North Avenue Trade School’s offense off the field. Better yet, keep our defense off the field. Remember what happened last year. Let’s not relive that nightmare.

Still, there’s a bigger picture, and it’s pretty darn bright. Georgia leads the nation’s 7th-ranked team by two touchdowns on the road, and Georgia has dominated.

I said it way back a few weeks ago in a Bradley blog when the trade schoolers were thinking they were dancing on the grave of UGA football that UGA would not only win, but throttle the Techies. Of course, a bunch of the roaches jumped all over it. But the simple fact is Tech is not a talented football team, and they’re bloated record is directly tied to the incredible weakness of the ACC. UGA wins this one going away, just as I said weeks ago on these very blogs based on pure talent. Willie and Bobo still need to go. The talent for a 10 win team is firmly in place, it’s just been badly coached. But even then, still more than enough to handle the Johnson lovers and their gimmick offense.
