Here's vivid proof Georgia actually did tackle Roddy Jones. Once. (AJC photo by Pouya Dianat)
OK, folks. You know what I think will happen. (Georgia Tech 42, Georgia 27.) You’ve heard my phony-baloney rationale: Tech is the better and more consistent team. Now I’m asking: What do you think will happen?
Tech blowout? Georgia upset? Overtime at Bobby Dodd? (It happened 10 years ago, you’ll recall.) Questionable call proving decisive? (That has happened a time or two, has it not?) Roddy flying past Reshad down the sideline again? A phantom fumble returned for the winning touchdown? A fourth-down throwaway? Tim Wansley with a seal-the-game INT? Tim Jennings with a seal-the-game INT? Gary Lee with a kickoff return through the fog?
I’m fairly certain you’ve had enough of my blather. I’m also certain you have detailed thoughts on the matter. Please feel free to share. Sharing is good. Sharing is cleansing. Sharing is why I’m here.
I leave you with this one factoid: In the Associated Press preseason poll, one of these teams was ranked No. 13; the other was No. 15. Anyone recall which was higher?
The AJC sports columnist is a blogging fool. But you knew that already

Lord willing, Georgia Tech will establish a healthy lead in the first half and never let up. My husband, one of the most die hard fans will be the happiest man in the world and his crazy UGA friends will quiet down for another year. My life will return to some semblance of normal and the Tech shrine on my mantel can be retired. Go JACKETS!

Predictions: Tech wins in a blowout but the dawgs expunge the loss from their record (with the help of Vince “NCAA-ass kisser” Dooley), like they did those losses in the 40’s, with the same lame excuse: “We didn’t have enough good players.” Then Munson sees Papa John’s pizzas falling from the sky, as he prepares for the dawgs big match-up with the likes of Rutgers. Thus begins Georgia’s slide into Baylor-ville and irrelevance.

We will roll tomorrow. However the best thing is not the beat down that we will put on UGA, but the press release that says CMR sees no reason to make any changes to his coaching staff.

I’ve been a Georgia fan all my life, and to a lesser extent a Tech fan. This is a rivalry where anything can happen, as we’ve seen in the past. In this one, Georgia has nothing to gain and Tech has everything to lose, so I’m hoping Tech will prevail. I figure it will end with a score something like 44-21 in favor of Tech. At least I hope so.

Hey, dawgies. Nobody cares about your seven year streak. It’s history, just like Tech’s eight year streak over you. You’re starting to look worn and washed-up with all this talk of your alleged past glory, like a doddering old man reminiscing about the days of yore. I know, I know. You’ve been playing football for nigh on 120 years now, and you’ve only got one national championship to show for it, and I think that was when Welcome Back Kotter was in prime time. So you’ve gotta grab onto something to hide your embarrassment. Maybe listening to Munson mutter something about a hobnail boot will help you forget your troubles. You do have that on tape, don’t you?

@Gatorhater – You said … “VANDY played a close game with TECH!! The WORST the SEC has to offer!!!! How could anyone predict a blowout for this game???”
You need to check your stats man. Tech put up more points against Vanderbilt than any other team this season … and also had the largest margin of victory over them. (Their second largest loss margins came against the Dogs and the Gators.) For what it’s worth, we also had a larger margin of victory of MS State than did LSU or UF.
Does any of this mean that GT will beat UGA tomorrow night … No! It’s all a matter of execution, and that’s why they play the game on the field and not in chat rooms or on blogs. However, the cumulative body of work for both teams this season gives Tech fans good reason to be optimistic. I don’t know what the final score will be, or even the margin … but I hope Tech will pull out a victory against a very talented UGA football team.

U-no, you don’t understand. You can’t compare stats of an ACC team with an SEC team. That’s because we play smash-mouth football, and no other conference does. We can’t help it if Utah didn’t understand this big difference last January.

GA Tech’s record against UGA over the last 20 yrs is 6-14. Two of those six wins occured at Grant Field (1989 and 1999). With this year’s game being played in 2009 and at Grant Field, the unfortunate reality appears to be that the planets and stars are aligned such that the Enemy may well score its once per decade home win tomorrow night.
Jus sayin.

Those stats are NCAA FBS Stats of 120 teams. It isn’t a conference to conference comparison. It is where each team is ranked nationally regardless of conference played in. These stats are through all eleven games played which means both Tech and Georgia compiled a portion of those stats playing outside their conference.

Just because they aren’t an SEC team should they not be ranked and their stats thrown out? What a frickin joke! Let’s just make one conference for everybody… the frickin SEC frickin conference and thrown everything else out the dadgum window! It is this very kind of ridiculous thinking, that the SEC is the only conference that counts for anything in football that calls for a playoff system so that there can be a true national champ derived from head to head confrontations on the field of play. Cincinnati could wipe the floor with any SEC team out there except for maybe Florida. TCU is no chump team either. Texas will end up being crowned the national champs if they go undefeated because the Big 12 is perceived to be a better conference than the SEC by most people outside of the South. It just is too much for you SEC homers to admit that there are teams out there that are better than you! Geez!

Tech and Clemson are going to win this weekend against SEC teams. FSU has beaten Florida before and could just slip up and make things really tough on Tebow and company… I hope they do. The SEC is supoosed to be so God Almighty tough except for the teams that have been beaten by other conference teams, then it is that they were the cellar dwellers of the SEC and it didn’t count!!! What a frickin joke!!! You can’t have it both ways you bunch of hydrant humpers! You are either in the conference that is God’s Answer to football, or you are just a bunch of redneck homers and have no sense of reality! I am beginning to think that all the jokes about inbreeding is not so much a joke but a dang reality with some of you folks.
The ACC is not the best conference in football, but it sure isn’t the worst either. Parity in the nation has made all the conferences competitive and comparable to one another and any one team out of any one conference could beat any other team from any other conference from one week to the next. Only homer hydrant humpers can’t see that or figure it out!
