Tech fans giggle while UGA fans say, ‘Shut up and deal’

In times of plenty and in times of want, there’s always Georgia versus Georgia Tech. It’s a game that defines (and sometimes reconfigures) the sport in our state, and by way of public service we offer yet another installment — that’s my way of saying I’ve lost count — of our Field Guide to the opposing sets of fans.
• Tech fans describe the moves Roddy Jones put on Georgia defenders along the sideline as “the old okey-doke.” Georgia fans describe Tech’s stadium as “The joke by Coke.”
• Georgia fans still can’t get over Tech putting the score of last year’s Georgia game on their Coastal Division co-championship rings. Tech fans still can’t get over Georgia players selling SEC championship rings on eBay.
• Tech fans laugh really hard whenever Paul Johnson says anything mildly amusing. Georgia fans stopped laughing at Paul Johnson midway through the third quarter on Nov. 29, 2008.
• Georgia fans don’t take the ACC seriously. Tech fans think SEC superiority is all a figment of Tim Brando’s imagination.
• Two words guaranteed to make Tech fans mad: Chop block. Two words guaranteed to make Georgia fans mad: Excessive celebration.
• Georgia fans believe SEC refs have it in for the Bulldogs. Tech fans believe SEC refs do a fine job — especially that nice Al Ford.
• Tech fans think it’s funny the head of SEC officiating is a Tech grad. Georgia fans think it’s all part of a grand conspiracy.
• Georgia fans are incensed by PETA’s demand that the late Uga VII be replaced by a robot. Tech fans will be incensed if they don’t get the contract to build the robot.
• Tech fans are excited to see the Jackets so high in the BCS rankings. Georgia fans are excited to see the Bulldogs so high in the recruiting rankings.
• Georgia fans can’t believe Tech keeps extending Paul Johnson’s contract. Tech fans would be willing to chip in and help Georgia extend Willie Martinez’s contract.
• Tech fans are eagerly awaiting a rematch with Clemson in Tampa. Georgia fans are eagerly awaiting a rematch with Kentucky in Stegeman Coliseum. (Er, maybe not. Kentucky’s better in hoops, too.)
• Georgia fans cackled when Tech kept going to bowls on the blue turf of exotic Boise. Tech fans with long memories are hoping like crazy Georgia lands in Shreveport, where every night is surf-and-turf at Red Lobster.
• The Tech fan’s favorite moment of 2009: Josh Nesbitt stealing the ball from a Florida State linebacker. The Georgia fan’s least favorite moment of 2009: Joe Cox flipping the ball to a Kentucky lineman.
• Georgia fans can’t understand what has happened to Mark Richt. Tech fans think what has happened to Mark Richt has a lot to do with Paul Johnson.
• Tech fans get really miffed if their team doesn’t wear gold. Georgia fans get really miffed if their team wears black helmets.
• Georgia fans still make fun of Tech’s (lack of) attendance. Tech fans figure that’s the last resort of a fading program: If you can’t beat ‘em on the field, outnumber ‘em in the stands.
• This season has Tech fans recalling the Bobby Dodd Era. This season has Georgia fans recalling the Ray Goff Era.

I’ve been a Dawg fan all my life and to a lesser degree a Tech fan. I have one son who graduated from UGA and one who graduated from Tech. This year I hope Tech forcefully extracts fecal matter from UGA and afterward UGA gets a new coaching staff. Go Tech!

Who gives a crap if UGA is prominent in the “national spotlight”, or that they have more hillbilly redneck fans? Does that have any bearing whatsover on the football game that is going to be played on saturday?
Think about this: the Yankees or Red Sox are by far the most “nationally prominent” teams in baseball, does that make me want to become a fan of either of them? HELL NO! But hey, at least those teams actually compete for championships, unlike UGA! Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, does that mean we should all start following or caring about that pansy game? HELL NO!
Enough about the Tech fans and stadium. We embrace the fact that Tech is a smaller school with a very loyal fanbase. What other stadium can you see an awesome city skyline from? Unlike that armpit of a town Athens, Atlanta is an actual city.
I feel, and probably most Tech fans will agree, that we have pride in our team that not only shines athletically, but plays the game and is coached the RIGHT WAY! No classless team endzone stomps, no idiotic arrests, no trash heap of a campus. And if you UGA’s fans are so hung up on your five star recruits, how does it feel to get stomped by a team that “can’t recruit”?

Yellow-Is-The-Color-Of-Piss, thank you for your suggestions! Perhaps, you should take your crystal ball back to Walmart; looks like it isn’t working THIS season, either! We ARE enjoying this season! You’re correct, regarding our letdown last season against lsu….good thing it happened, though….what else could the mutts lean on as leverage in the trash talk department?! However, CPJ has adjusted his attitude regarding bowl games and I don’t think this’ll be a problem in the near future! Glad to see that you’ve used last years loss as an educational oppertunity! Of COURSE yellow is the color of piss….. we dumped enough on ya’ll last year during the third quarter…. i consider you an expert in this department! GO TECH!!!

Stupid article, but I have witnessed what was written here from the teams and fans on both sides. Georgia is allowed one bad year out many great years with Richt. Tech is allowed their great years with as many coaches as it takes. Both teams are good – the writers of the many articles on both are the ones who can’t actually report on either team with the class of a good writer.

GO Dawgs! If Tech had won, I would have said congrats to the team and acted like a decent human being than posting the juvenile drivel from both sides on here. Georgia and Tech played a good game. I am personally glad that Joe Cox is gone – go ahead Tech and prepare your mindless, stupid insults and jokes for next year – Georgia will be starting over with another new QB and Georgia fans already realize is will be a rough road. At least we are adult enough to admit it now instead of crying over spilt milk later.
