Here's Willie Martinez, seen doing some actual coaching. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Shortest post ever. Three simple questions:
1. Which team has better players — Georgia or Kentucky?
2. Which team won the game?
3. What does that say about the losing coaches?
There it is. Have at it.
AJC sports columnist Mark Bradley is a blogging fool. But you knew that already.

FIRST!!
1) Georgia and it’s not even close.
2) Kentucky made adjustments and took the gifts handed to them to win the game.
3) Freakin’ ridiculous.
I love the DAWGS, and I am a fan for life. I hope things get better quick, I know way too many Tech fans!

I bilieve this season was doomed from the very beginning of last spring’s practices. Whenever Joe Cox was named the starting quarterback, everyone – the players, coaches, athletic trainers, even UGA VII knew it was going to be a long year. Heck, it even caused UGA VII to have a heart attack.

Mark Richt needs to replace his offensive and defensive cordinators, his special teams coach ( or whoever keeps calling for those stupid kickoffs ) and he needs to name a new starting quarterback for the last two games…

Let’s hope the AD has the bulls to tell Richt to replace inadequate coaches or he’ll be the one to go. How do you keep losing a hundred yards every game to penalties and not correct the problem after a whole season?

Mark, Most people think Willie is the problem. Is he? As a fan, I see the results and I have a gut reaction. But Tubberville and Kevin Butler think Marinez is not a problem and it sounds like Butler gets to watch a lot of practices. Was Brian VG that good, or did he inherit great players from Donnan? Is it the players? Is Coach Richt too nice? Would replacing Martinez actually make a difference? As a sports columinist, do you have an insight into the Georgia program that we fans don’t see?

They obviously can recruit as the freshman talent on offense is sensational with Brown, Wooten, King (Rs freshman), Ealey, Smith, etc. They have forgotten though a few things: 1. You build from the line. 2. The defensive coaching is obviously awful – how can you have three d lineman (Atkins, Owens, and Weston) plus Curran and Jones all getting ready to be drafted? The pieces don’t fit to make the whole piece. That is coaching. The kick coverage has been awful for years. It’s time for change or as much as I love Mark Richt Damon Evans will have no choice to let him go after 2010.

Offensively I believe it is the fact that UGA did not prepare for Stafford’s departure. All you have now is Joe Cox and freshman. If you are going to be bad then why not be bad with freshman. The UGA head coach is too soft. He will not make the hard decision. I am sure he will pray about the situation and do what is best for WM and BoBo. They will be back. I don’t think you want VG, look how he is doing with the Falcons.

Spurrier nailed it years ago…..”I don’t know what happens to the players when they get to Georgia” Saturday night did it for me as a UGA supporter (e.g. money) and fan. I just wish this bunch of bimbos would have lost to Auburn so we would not have to go to a bowl game. A) UGA
B)Kentucky
C)Way to much…..
The turnovers and penalty’s continue to kill the program. The coaching staff could call the perfect run or the perfect blitz, but if you have a false start or a off sides penalty it seems to bit this team in the butt every time. This team with the turnovers does not seem to be mentally tough enough to fight back from the “perfect storm” of turnovers and penalties. This is directly related to coaching.
So how does the SEC look in 2010 if Meyer is in Notre Dame and Florida now is replacing a Championship Winning Quarterback and a Head Coach? If that happens the entire SEC East is perhaps up for grabs for another decade.
That’s how important the next 6-8 weeks are to this program.

Mark, I think that our defense was at least adequate on Saturday. We did get beat on that screen, and, indeed, that was ugly. Otherwise, you can’t ask any defense in the country to come out and recover from the RIDICULOUS mistakes our offense made. I am sure he is a nice young man, but nice alone is not enough to win in the SEC (unfortunately, this also applies to CMR), and Joe Cox does not appear to have the skills to consistently win in big-time SEC football.

Nub,
I have the same priorities and live by them! Nothing wrong with this by anyone and I respect and admire men like Mark Richt who have their priorities in order and this will comfort him during this storm.
However, Mark Richt is not a compensated Pastor, he is a highly compensated football coach and thus expected to earn this compensation by doing the best coaching job possible. If he does this, fine; if not, then he should be replaced with a person who is more willing and capable. This is a job requirement for one who accepts money from an employer and that’s strictly business…unless he were willing to work for free!

To answer….
1-Georgia…but Kentucky’s player were much better prepared.
2-Kentucky…but Georgia won every statistical battle EXCEPT TO’s and penalties
3-Like every knows…there is a problem.
Take a look some of the games this year…
OK St – We score on our 1st possession by running the ball, then start throwing the ball all over the field. Then, when were go back to the run and are driving for a score, we run a reverse, get sacked…etc. Oh, and the penalties….and turnovers. We should have seen this type of season coming….
UT – For the first time in many a moon, the players quit….
FL – For the first time in many a moon, the Gators not only beat us, but also out-classed us…
Auburn – The only complete game the team has played in two years…few penalties and no TO’s….
Loyalty is a very admirable trait to personnally have…and CMR has demonstrated this time and again with players and coaches…and loyalty is a trait that befits a friend, not necessarily a profession. Loyalty can be blinding….
It’t obviously time that the staff get some fresh ideas and direction. The definition of insanity is….and CMR promised change after having the same problems last year….
This year is different than last only because there is no Stafford or Moreno covering the coaching issues….not having those two exposed the probs the team really has….
Coaching…..
I am not on the fire CMR Bandwagon….yet…he has had a better run than Dooley…however, the focus is on him to make the necessary changes in leadership to take the talent we have to the levels the fans, the players and, even the Coaches. should…expect…

Its start with coaching, players are lacking any kind of discipline- Evans is a key example. Failure to adjust to different schemes, CWM is not getting it done and giving up on avg. 31 pts a game (thanks Schultz). Too much talent to finish the season 6-6 (hopefully 7-5). There needs to be some serious moves in the off-season. Next year is the perfect time with 3 new Qbs entering the mix (UF, UT, & UGA).

I tell you what I’m tired of… Dawg fans that are all over the place!
We’ve got one group that are he11 bent on getting rid of our coaching staff, either CWM, CWM & CMB, or all of them including CMR. This ignores the record, recruiting, and other positives that CMR has created for this program. Folks, is it that long ago that we don’t remember the Donnan and Goff days? I agree that we have coaching issues and I think CMR needs to make some changes. But let’s CMR make those changes. If he doesn’t then fine, we need a new HC.
We have another group of “fans” that want to lose to the nerds because they either don’t want to go to a bowl game or they want to ensure that CMR, et al will get the axe (see my first point). WTF? Why would a true Dawg fan EVER want to lose to the bugs? EVER? Have these fans no sense of pride or self-respect? I’m not saying that we will probably win but I do think we have a chance! Let’s play the game. Things can happen in any game, especially a rival game.
We have another group of fans that I would call the ‘cool-aid drinkers.’ These are the blind homers that say we’re going to destroy or blowout the nerds. What in God’s green earth are these people thinking? They make other Dawg fans look absolutely stupid. If we are going to be honest the bugs are favored and they should be. That doesn’t mean that we can’t be the spoiler or can’t win the game. But let’s not look stupid by predicting a blowout for UGA when NOTHING demonstrates that this likely the case, particularly when a blowout for nerdville is infinitely more likely.
Why can’t we support our team, no matter what? Why can’t we give CMR a chance in the off-season to make some changes? Why don’t we support our team through EVERY game, including a bowl game? Why don’t we reserve all of the non-sensical homerism talking about “blowing out” the nerds (or anyone for that matter) until after we blow them out?
I’m sorry that my beloved Dawgs are struggling like they are. I don’t think it’s long term and I do know that the players, the University, the coaches and the rest of Dawg Nation deserve to have the fans firmly behind them, through thick and thin, Those are my thoughts.
Go Dawgs!

From Tim Tucker’s article:
Saturday’s loss hurt Georgia’s bowl options, shelving Tampa’s Outback Bowl as a realistic possibility.
Of the SEC’s 10 bowl-eligible teams, seven have better overall records than Georgia’s 6-5. The Dogs could be looking at a postseason game near the bottom of the SEC pecking order, such as the Independence Bowl in Shreveport or the Papajohn’s.com Bowl in Birmingham.
“I’m not sure where, but I can promise you we will be thankful anywhere we get to go,” Richt said.
So we get to go to the Armpit Bowl of the South and Richt is ‘Thankful’. That just damages my Georgia pride to hear that. He should have said that he would not subject his team to the embarrassment of being in an Armpit Bowl and that he will elect to just not go to a bowl if we cannot be proud of the one we go to. His admitting that he will be ‘Thankful’ to go to Shreveport is just finally admitting to how awful this team is this year. Oh the humiliation! A stake in my heart!

And, one other thought. Why can’t we have our fans parked in their seats for the WHOLE game? Like I said, through thick and thin. If you’re a player that’s what you want to see. I’m sure the players noticed the mass exodus on Saturday. Do these fans honestly think that this would motivate the players? I mean honestly folks, that was more embarassing as an alum than anything the players or coaches have done this year. Be a fan and support your team!

No doubt coaching is the problem. But, Bobo is a big an issue as Martinez. Orson Charles has a career first quarter, then we quit using him? We run a draw play on third and ten with two minutes left in the game on Kentucky’s 30 yard line? Give me a break! An Offensive Coordinator’s FIRST job should not be at UGA! For the UGA fan that says the next 6-8 weeks are critical as Urban may be at ND and UF will be replacing it’s QB therefore the SEC east will be up for grabs next year:
1. Urban not going anywhere and is bringing in another outstanding recruiting class…perhaps his best yet.
2. When you see John Brantley (our backup QB) next year you will realize the UF QB position is in great hands.
3. SEC east is always up for grabs. My question is who will be UF’s competition…UT, USC, Kentucky…
I would say Georgia needs to concentrate on Georgia and not be worrying or wondering about other school’s situations.
If I’m a parent of a HS football player with bigtime potential being recruited by the poods, the question I’m asking myself is will my son be developed when he gets to Athens or not? Lately it’s been NOT.

That “high school offense” beat a better poodle team last year when we hardly knew how to run the option. That’s not the case this year. SEC level athletes you say? Not a single coach threw an interception, fumbled a kickoff, missed a tackle, all those are physical plays that the players themselves should get the credit or blame for, whichever applies. The coaches are responsible for the poor kickoffs because of the philosophy they have which never seems to work. We never seem to have players sprinting down the field and breaking up the wedge – it seems like they are told to always stay in control and I believe that takes away from aggressiveness. Special teams play was poor in this game to say the least – I believe that is the area that needs the most attention in the off-season and cries out for a coaching change.

I have not heard Mark Richt say one time: “It falls on me!” Shame on you Mark Richt! Your ego precedes your spiritual well-being! You know and we know that this year’s demise falls squarely on you!! You make the $3-4 million bucks to win…not give us moral victories! And speaking of “moral victories”…how bout them personal fouls and penalties! Doesnt look like a group of young men that have been taught good Christian values such as respect, discipline, and self-pride! Evans is a perfect example of what I don’t want my children to try to grow up to be! Please sit him on the sidelines with a comb and sissors for the GA Tech game! He doesnt deserve to wear the uniform that comes with playing on Saturdays! And lastly, I beg you…please don’t where any uniform gimmicks against GA Tech! Instead coach your players up with words like team work, discipline, self-pride, and respect!!! I stayed with you all season…but the Kentucky loss is the “poster-child” of why 2009 went severely wrong!

You are exactly right. The only way to plug the leak is with a SEC and/or NC. That is not gong to happen ant time soon.
Georgia will nao fire Rrot the next few years and cost the program dearly

You losers that want to blame it on the players are IDIOTS. In the NFL, where the coach usually is not the GM, you can make that argument. Not in college.
Saban’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Meyer’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Kiffin’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Miles’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
P.Johnson’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
TCU, Cincy, Boise State’s players don’t seem to have the trouble Richt’s do.
Why do Richt’s players commit a lot of turnovers and penalties and have a porous defense? Why Richt’s and not all those other coaches?
Blame it on the players? NO. FIRE MARK RICHT.

Adam – thanks for some realistic posting. I won’t diss you as a sincere dawg fan – we just wish there were more like you. Yes, UGA has always had a problem with obnoxious fans (yes we have them too – St Simons will be on here eventually) and part of the animosity of our team fans and other SEC fans toward your program are your fans more so than your team. So kudos to you for calling out some of your fellow fans.

To put the blame for this year’s problems all on Joe Cox like many have is pretty dang stupid. Joe ain’t great but this disaster took a team effort starting with the coaching staff.

I hear waht you are saying…but the coaches are not out there committing all the ridiculous turnovers. Cox lost this game for us. he is horrible and we need to rip the red shirt off Aaron Murray. The coaches preach turnover margin all the time, but ultimately it is up to the players to not give the ball away in the ridiculous ways they did. Can you really blame our coaching staff for those 2 picks or fumbles? thats the better question. These 4 and 5 star recruits need to have some accountability to.

Mark Thanksgiving week,
Just a few things to be thankful for.
1. Thankful we don’t have to face Florida but once this season.
2 Thankful we don’t have to face Alabama or Ole Miss at all this season.
3. Thankful that we have the best Kickers in the Nation and at the end of the season awards will come rolling in for Walsh and Butler, they desreve it.
4. Thankful that Ga Tech game is in Atlanta this season ( for obvious reasons)
5. Thankful I got to watch Rennie Curran play his last game as a Bulldawg,

One more thing. The Mark Richt show with Chuck Doodle is USELESS. What a mighty fall that show has taken in the 10 years since I last watched it. Richt was barely conscious, hardly showed a pulse as usual, but he did comment 3-4 times about the second half kickoff. So they show the highlights and don’t show the one play Richt thought was pivotal. Further, no coaching comment on the plays. How absurd is that? Finally, NO COMMENTS ON THE CRITICAL FUMBLE AT THE 1-YARD LINE!!! Are you kidding me? What was QB thinking? What was RB thinking? Who blew it? Whose great idea was it to run a toss play anyway? And finally, WHERE IS THE COACHING, THE REPETITION IN PRACTICE, THE DRILLS, THE ABSOLUTE DISCIPLINE, THAT SHOULD KEEP THAT PLAY FROM HAPPENING???

As a gator, I have no dog in this fight, but I do firmly believe that UGA has superb talent on their team. It is more fun for me as a fan to play and beat the Dawgs when they are top SEC contenders. The current episode in Athens reminds me of the dark days we Gators suffered through in Gainesville during the Zook years and the ’70s and ’80s. It is not for me to pontificate on the problems with the Dawgs, but I am totally convinced that you will be back with a vengeance in the very near future. My many Dawg Fan friends are so remorse these days that we refrain from our good nature ribbing about football. I know how you feel, and you your loyalty does not deserve the current situation. Hang in there and good luck.
Sorry to hear about UGA VII.
Go Gators!

I never lost a game in high school. Darn it…..does that not count for something? I had the same ugly short red hair and the same purple face with contorted expressions. So give me some credit. Sure I suck now but did I mention I never lost in high school?

You know, I agree the defense looks lost in the secondary, and how can you let a non starting qb, and there two best player make us look silly in the second half. However, you cant blame it completely on coaching when you fumble the kickoff on the ga 14, qb looking like a deer in headlights and just throwing two int and giving the ball inside the 15 again, and the fumble on the 2 yard line was rediculus, qb are supose to look at the line up before snapping the ball to make sure everything is all right, he should have readjusted ealy if he was to close. The main problem this year besides martinez and bobo are that we are young and very inexperienced at the important positions, qb, rb,wr. there is hope dog nation with the young talent coming up. but next season starts today, we got to make changes!
