Here's Willie Martinez, seen doing some actual coaching. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Shortest post ever. Three simple questions:
1. Which team has better players — Georgia or Kentucky?
2. Which team won the game?
3. What does that say about the losing coaches?
There it is. Have at it.

It is not coaching when 2 first yr players lay it on the turf allowing 2 touch downs and a loss… the kick offs…”stupid” strategy! Long year for USC, ND, LSU, and our beloved DAWGS.

Can Richt Coach?
At FSU, he coached 2 different players to Hesiman tropies and set all kinds f offensive records and helped get Bobbby 2 Natl’ Championships. When Richt left, FSU went downhill. Richt had a good game plan–get ahead, and then make them pass. Richt is the 4th winningest active coach since 2001-2008.
Can Willie Coach?
He hasn’t given up a 100 yard rusher all year, in the past, we win 94% of those games. He CRUSHED the #1 ranked offense (in 2007 & 2008) Auburn’s Gus. Willie did a solid job if you watch the Kentucky game, I’d only put maybe 14 points on him. Willie had a kick-off fumble, and 2 picks–all 3 turnovers on his own goal line.
Can Bobo Coach?
Another game with 3 turnovers–2 Int’s on Willie-s goalline and a fumble. Bobo’s offense has given up the ball too much this year, Richt is undefeated when he gets NO TURNOVERS. Bobo ran a 54% pass play mix, top SEC runs a 35%-40% play mix. Bobo continues to sit top RB’s on the bench, like Ealey, who had a 55 yard gain Sat and was REALLY averaging 12 yards a carry after 9 touches. King had 2 passes intercepted on him as Cox was trying to throw to him, and a couple of fumbles. The play-calling on 3rd down was terrible, we only converted 1 3rd down in the second half! Ealey still did not get 25 touches. Charles didn’t get ANY touches in the 2nd half after a GREAT 1st half. Kentucky was lost, like Ok St, Tenn, and Florida, because of Bobo’s 3 to 40 turnovers a game.

oops–2 corrections:
1) Bobo called a 54% pass play-mix in the first 7 games, not against Kentucky. Florida’s is 35% pass calls play mix.
2) Bobo’s given up 3-4 turnovers in 4 out of 5 of our losses.

I will be the first to say that our defense quite often finds its back to the wall and all the points scored cannot totally be contributed to them. However, rather than look at POINTS allowed, let’s look at YARDS allowed. After 11 games our defense is allowing just over 327 yards per game. Absolutely unacceptable. It will only get worse after tech.

How does Bobo bench Ealey in the Tenn Tech game when Ealey’s getting 12.7 ypc, has 2 td’s, and a 44 yard explosion run? If you count the 55 yard gain against Kentucky, Ealey was over 12 yards a carry again after 9 touches and got rotated with King.
How does Bobo get King 8 touches in a game where he gets .9 yards a carry?
Why does Bobo keep getting 3-4 turnovers a game, in 4 out 5 of our losses?
Why does Bobo stink in time of possession this season?
Why in the 1st 7 games, did Bobo call less RUNNING plays than ANYONE in the NCAA?

THE BOTTOM LINE: Richt gets paid a pretty good sum to put a sucessful team out on the field. If he is a morally upright man, he should understand that his first and only loyalty is to the college that gives him his paycheck so he can put food on the table. Not friends, fellow coaches. If the job is not getting accomplished, the moral thing to do is to get rid of the problems…COME’ON RICHT! LET’S SEE SOME MORAL OUTRAGE OUT OF YOU OK?? OR QUIT COLLECTING THE PAYCHECKS. E’NUFF SAID.

Unfrigginbelievable! Two posts state that Georgia does not have
superior talent . If you can state such a blatantly stupid thing
I don’t know why you are posting here. You know as much about football
as my wife who will ask what “inning” the game is in when she wants
the show how “interested” she is in the game. Georgia doesn’t have
superior talent to Kentucky?? Really?? What game were you watching
then? Here’s a clue for you which a “real” football fan should know.
The quarterback is the most important position on the field. His
screwups can overshadow all the other positive and talented play.
This year’s team is has been hindered by poor play from the QB.
Not to mention a defense that has a penchant for foolish mistakes.
Anytime a team underachieves the head coach is going to be widely
criticized. There are holes in this team which keep it from being
a competetor in sec that is disappointing but acceptable.
But to play and lose the way this team has lost is totally
unacceptable. My biggest gripe besides the penalties and turnovers
is that the coaching staff has not properly game planned from week
to week in such a way as decrease opportunities for Cox to screw up
the game at crucial moments. Hey Bobo here’s an idea …when you
are running the ball successfully keep it up till they stop you.
When you have a QB that is disaster prone you need to forget about
being preoccupied with “balance”. Run it , use the wild dawg formation
etc. be creative. News flash ! Stafford is a Lion now!

O Red Zone Attempts
4 turnovers
Called a 65% pass play mix
Bobo was in that game outscored by the: punt block team, ko return team, defense, and field goal kicker?
Gerogia’s Team got 19 points, Bobo’s offense got 0 Points and 4 turonovers.

I’m not within a thousand miles of thinking Coach Richt should go. If he were to hang tough with all his coaches after this year I would have to revise that assessment. But that won’t happen. At least three coaches won’t be coming back to Athens. One thing has changed my thinking among all these comments though. Coach Bryant ALWAYS blamed himself.Coach Richt may be a bit young to remember much about the Bear. But his was an example worth following.

godawgs, you want to see some stats on Willie that mean something? 10 times in the past 2 seasons we gave up 30 plus points, 6 times it was 40 plus points, with one more still coming next week. Do you realize Ark and SC ran out of time or we would have lost those games. We cannot stop anybody when we need to. Every defense faces a short field from kickoff returns or turnovers. Most defenses rise to the challange. Ours allows a TD in one or two plays!!! I’ve watched every play of every game and I cannot see how anyone can defend Willie Martinez. Or Fabris or Bobo. Be honest with yourself and see if you can imagine any of those 3 having a job with Myer or Saban?

The Die is cast guys. The defesnse didn’t play as a team until after the UF game. The offense hasn’t played as a team all year. Ok State, SC, Ark, LSU, ASU, all had terrible offense written all over it. Terrible kickoff, writtien all over it. Poor defense wrtitten all over it KY linebacker said all they had to do is watch QB’s eyes. He looked off for a second then went right back to where the ball was going. Terrible preparation. I’m not sure if it is coaching or what but the teams have not been prepared. We slapped Kentucky with that bootleg, and low and behold, we quit using it. Imagine UGA doing that this year. Was it a pitch or a hand off? 5th year senior should know? Was it a white or a red jersey Fifth Year Senior should know? Which arm do you carry the football under, facing the tacklers or away from a tackler, well coached return man should know? They can’t stop the run, it is first and goal at the 3, what do you do run or pass? Good O coordinator would run. QB sneak or toss sweep? Good O coordinator would know.. This reload was a dud!

Willie’s philosophy is make them pass, he gives up a lot of passing yards BY DESIGN. When Georgia holds the other team to less than a 100 yard rusher, until this year, we win 94% of those games.
Willie should FORCE more turnovers–no doubt–and yes, hold them to more field goals instead of touchdowns.
Against Kentucky, 3 turnovers on Willie’s OWN goaline.
How many total yards did Willie give up against Kentucky in the WHOLE GAME?

I am a dawg fan to the bone. First time I ever had a thought cross my mind that we might be shaving points. I know, call me an idiot for thinking it but I have no other explanation for the 2nd half meltdown. Don’t get me wrong, Kentucky just abused our d-backs out on the edge and they didn’t turn the ball over. Just the way we handed them the game and our kick cover team. Oh my gosh; How bad was that? I know it isn’t true but Art Schleister got convicted and spent time in prison for shaving points and he didn’t do as good a job as our guys did Saturday night. One last thing, thanks Barrow County Sherriffs Department for the 5 mile traffic jam at 1:00 am on Ga316. I hope you caught all the drunks. Holy Cow, bad ending to a bad night.

Unquestionably, Damon Evans should require Richt to fire Martinez and hire a defensive coordinator OUTSIDE of our program as a condition of keeping his job. No internal promotion of guys in the Willie system. Nothing Richt can say or do would make keeping Willie anything short of absolutely ludicris and the most outrageous decision for all of 2010 college football around the nation. Even Charlie Weis could give Martinez a run for his money as a defensive coordinator – which is pretty sad considering Weis can’t even handle his offensive specialization.
It would take only one offseason to return to top form if the right coaching is in place. Personally I think that means goodbye Willie, goodbye Bobo, and a new opportunity for Richt to recover the program. I’m not against the idea of Richt being on the hot seat THIS year either and would support a different coach if we had a great one in mind, but at minimum if the Dawgs aren’t a solid top 25 team that has a chance to win the SEC late in the season next year, I’d tell him it’s time to move on. He must also be required to fire Martinez or be fired himself.

It says that Georgia did not play to its potential in that game. Mr. Bradley’s implication (or my inference) may be warranted but cannot be based on one contest. To argue otherwise would be to say that the best coach in the land (pick whomever) should never lose to a team which fields less talented players. It happens, to every program. However, if you take a look at the Georgia staff’s entire body of work…there it is, have at it.

As I have said before, the problem in Athens is chemistry and coaching.
Organizations take on the personality of their leaders and the GA football team is no exception. CMR is a “nice guy” and so is the football team. You just don’t get the same feeling from GA as you do from FLA and ALA. The fire is lacking and since there is no “smoke” you can see why.
CMR is a good coach but he needs to bring in a supporting staff that will let him be the “Good Guy”. Someone has to be the “Bad Guys” however. I think that was the difference when Dooley and Russell ran things in Athens.
There are some plain stupid things going on however. Why are we still NOT KICKING THE BALL THROUGH THE ENDZONE ON KICKOFFS??? We signed Bogotay who did that last consistently in California last year…I guess the air is thinner there. We have to stop giving them the ball on the 40 or 50 yardline. This one isn’t hard…JUST KICK THE BALL THROUGH THE ENDZONE!
I don’t think Martinez or Bobo are bad coaches as much as I think they are just a bad fit under CMR. The DAWGS simply have TOO MUCH TALENT to have only won 6 games. The cure is obvious…the cause is still up for discussion.

Meyers was beaten by Ole Miss at Florida when he was a 22 point favorite. Meyers got KILLED in a Bowl Game at Florida 41-0 against Michigan. Ga Tech got KILLED in it’s BOWL game last year against LSU 38 to 3. One game is not enough to make a decision–look at the whole context.
Did this article balance by mentionining Georgia’s best game or something positive? Nope. Journalism gives BOTH sides of an issue OBJECTIVELY, right? No BIAS, right?

I somewhat agree with godawgs in that Bobo creates many of the turnovers. That last interception was the same exact play that had worked maybe 2 minutes earlier on a previous drive. You can bet the house that Kentucky’s D coaches told him not to bite on King’s fake again…and he didn’t. That was an awful play call and Bobo should get credit for that INT.
I was glad to hear all the boos on the 3rd and long draw play that hasn’t worked on any of the 250 times we have tried it this season.
Here is a hint Bobo…THAT DRAW PLAY OCCASIONALLY WORKS BECAUSE 3RD AND LONG IS A PASSING DOWN! Not for us though. If I was an opposing DC and I had UGA in 3rd and 10+, I am putting 8 in the box, which will stop them 99% of the time.
We make fun of Tech’s offense for having 8 plays. I am not really sure that our offense runs more than 5. I am embarrassed to be a UGA fan.
Finally for you people questioning those of us that left the game early this weekend…you pay for my tickets and then you can tell me when to leave. The performance of this team does not warrant the amount of money I paid to get the tickets.
We need to get rid of Mark Richt today. We have paid him enough money to set up a mission in the South America somewhere. He doesn’t have the temperament to coach in the SEC. If we keep Richt, we should consider moving to the ACC…or the MAC conference. We are no longer SEC caliber.

There are two things wrong in Athens, but I’m not a football coach or AD so I don’t know how to fix them.
First, the special teams are really bad … they can’t cover kicks and they can’t cover punts. I would like to see a statistic that shows how many times the opposing team got the ball at the 40 yard line or better. No matter how good your defense is, you ARE going to give up points to Division 1 teams when they only have to drive half the field.
Second, the turnovers are killer … again, no matter how good your defense is, you ARE going to give up points when your turnover margin is two to one or worse. Period. You can’t win like that.
Ask yourselves, seriously … how would Willie Martinez’s defense have made out this year without all those turnovers and with a decent kick coverage team?
I’m just not sure it is the DC.

Milton Dawg, when you talk about disclipline, would having the Most penalized O-line in the nation 2 yrs running be a matter of disclipline? Unlike a DB, who has to react, those guy know where they are supposed to be going. Not to mention a total inability to pick up short yardage for 2 years, even with Moreno. Do we have a RB coach, a newly promoted Running Game Co-ordinator, and a Offensive Co-ordinator?
As far as adjusting, would a very poor KY defence shutting down our running game and having zero answer for that fall into the category of adjusting?
I agree CWM is not getting it done (although his scoring average is really a worthless stat when you have the offense spotting teams 10-14 point a game) but how in the world does everyone see the multitude of problems, the REAL problems that have actually caused the losses and blame the DC for everything?
CWM will more than likely find a “intriguing chance to take on a new challenge” when this season is over, but you folks are NUTS to think our defense is going to be any better next year. 2 years down the road maybe. Frankly, one of the reason CMR should make a move at DC is because they are going to be questionable at every single position next year, and no way does WM or anyone else look good. A new name will get more of a reprieve. Our team might be more sucessfull but only because our offense shouldn’t be quite so schizophrenic.
