A very short post about a very big topic – UGA’s coaching

Willie Martinez does some coaching. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Here's Willie Martinez, seen doing some actual coaching. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

Shortest post ever. Three simple questions:

1. Which team has better players — Georgia or Kentucky?

2. Which team won the game?

3. What does that say about the losing coaches?

There it is. Have at it.

FIRST!!

1) Georgia and it’s not even close.
2) Kentucky made adjustments and took the gifts handed to them to win the game.
3) Freakin’ ridiculous.

I love the DAWGS, and I am a fan for life. I hope things get better quick, I know way too many Tech fans!

I bilieve this season was doomed from the very beginning of last spring’s practices. Whenever Joe Cox was named the starting quarterback, everyone – the players, coaches, athletic trainers, even UGA VII knew it was going to be a long year. Heck, it even caused UGA VII to have a heart attack.

Mark Richt needs to replace his offensive and defensive cordinators, his special teams coach ( or whoever keeps calling for those stupid kickoffs ) and he needs to name a new starting quarterback for the last two games…

after a full season of coaching, i’m not sure another month of the same is going to help…. this year or next. please turn down any bowl invitations, and spare a once proud program any more embarrassment.

Let’s hope the AD has the bulls to tell Richt to replace inadequate coaches or he’ll be the one to go. How do you keep losing a hundred yards every game to penalties and not correct the problem after a whole season?

Offensive line coach must go too.

Wasn’t that suppose to be a strength of the team this year?

Strength and conditioning coach needs to go as well.

Georgia can be a good team with Richt, but never a great team. If their going to replace coaches, Richt should be the first to go.

Mark, Most people think Willie is the problem. Is he? As a fan, I see the results and I have a gut reaction. But Tubberville and Kevin Butler think Marinez is not a problem and it sounds like Butler gets to watch a lot of practices. Was Brian VG that good, or did he inherit great players from Donnan? Is it the players? Is Coach Richt too nice? Would replacing Martinez actually make a difference? As a sports columinist, do you have an insight into the Georgia program that we fans don’t see?

They obviously can recruit as the freshman talent on offense is sensational with Brown, Wooten, King (Rs freshman), Ealey, Smith, etc. They have forgotten though a few things: 1. You build from the line. 2. The defensive coaching is obviously awful – how can you have three d lineman (Atkins, Owens, and Weston) plus Curran and Jones all getting ready to be drafted? The pieces don’t fit to make the whole piece. That is coaching. The kick coverage has been awful for years. It’s time for change or as much as I love Mark Richt Damon Evans will have no choice to let him go after 2010.

Offensively I believe it is the fact that UGA did not prepare for Stafford’s departure. All you have now is Joe Cox and freshman. If you are going to be bad then why not be bad with freshman. The UGA head coach is too soft. He will not make the hard decision. I am sure he will pray about the situation and do what is best for WM and BoBo. They will be back. I don’t think you want VG, look how he is doing with the Falcons.

Spurrier nailed it years ago…..”I don’t know what happens to the players when they get to Georgia” Saturday night did it for me as a UGA supporter (e.g. money) and fan. I just wish this bunch of bimbos would have lost to Auburn so we would not have to go to a bowl game. If this team had any kind of class- they would decline going anywhere and save us the embarrasment like we had Sat.

A) UGA

B)Kentucky

C)Way to much…..

The turnovers and penalty’s continue to kill the program. The coaching staff could call the perfect run or the perfect blitz, but if you have a false start or a off sides penalty it seems to bit this team in the butt every time. This team with the turnovers does not seem to be mentally tough enough to fight back from the “perfect storm” of turnovers and penalties. This is directly related to coaching.

So how does the SEC look in 2010 if Meyer is in Notre Dame and Florida now is replacing a Championship Winning Quarterback and a Head Coach? If that happens the entire SEC East is perhaps up for grabs for another decade.

That’s how important the next 6-8 weeks are to this program.

Both should be fired and never allowed to coach again!

Mark, I think that our defense was at least adequate on Saturday. We did get beat on that screen, and, indeed, that was ugly. Otherwise, you can’t ask any defense in the country to come out and recover from the RIDICULOUS mistakes our offense made. I am sure he is a nice young man, but nice alone is not enough to win in the SEC (unfortunately, this also applies to CMR), and Joe Cox does not appear to have the skills to consistently win in big-time SEC football.

Nub,

I have the same priorities and live by them! Nothing wrong with this by anyone and I respect and admire men like Mark Richt who have their priorities in order and this will comfort him during this storm.

However, Mark Richt is not a compensated Pastor, he is a highly compensated football coach and thus expected to earn this compensation by doing the best coaching job possible. If he does this, fine; if not, then he should be replaced with a person who is more willing and capable. This is a job requirement for one who accepts money from an employer and that’s strictly business…unless he were willing to work for free!

To answer….

1-Georgia…but Kentucky’s player were much better prepared.
2-Kentucky…but Georgia won every statistical battle EXCEPT TO’s and penalties
3-Like every knows…there is a problem.

Take a look some of the games this year…

OK St – We score on our 1st possession by running the ball, then start throwing the ball all over the field. Then, when were go back to the run and are driving for a score, we run a reverse, get sacked…etc. Oh, and the penalties….and turnovers. We should have seen this type of season coming….

UT – For the first time in many a moon, the players quit….

FL – For the first time in many a moon, the Gators not only beat us, but also out-classed us…

Auburn – The only complete game the team has played in two years…few penalties and no TO’s….

Loyalty is a very admirable trait to personnally have…and CMR has demonstrated this time and again with players and coaches…and loyalty is a trait that befits a friend, not necessarily a profession. Loyalty can be blinding….

It’t obviously time that the staff get some fresh ideas and direction. The definition of insanity is….and CMR promised change after having the same problems last year….

This year is different than last only because there is no Stafford or Moreno covering the coaching issues….not having those two exposed the probs the team really has….

Coaching…..

I am not on the fire CMR Bandwagon….yet…he has had a better run than Dooley…however, the focus is on him to make the necessary changes in leadership to take the talent we have to the levels the fans, the players and, even the Coaches. should…expect…

The problem starts with the recruiting that has has been done recently, Bad players make bad plays….Let a freshman run kick offs back fumbles will happen, let freshman running backs play and fumbles happen….Let Joe Cox play Losing happens…I love my dawgs but i don’t like this collection of players.

MiltonDawg

Its start with coaching, players are lacking any kind of discipline- Evans is a key example. Failure to adjust to different schemes, CWM is not getting it done and giving up on avg. 31 pts a game (thanks Schultz). Too much talent to finish the season 6-6 (hopefully 7-5). There needs to be some serious moves in the off-season. Next year is the perfect time with 3 new Qbs entering the mix (UF, UT, & UGA).

That second half was about the most embarrasing performance that I can ever recall. Missed tackles, supid penalties, flat footed defense, fumbles, crappy kick off play, no fire and on and on. No more money from me, no T shirts, no hats, no alumni support until I see improvement.

I tell you what I’m tired of… Dawg fans that are all over the place!

We’ve got one group that are he11 bent on getting rid of our coaching staff, either CWM, CWM & CMB, or all of them including CMR. This ignores the record, recruiting, and other positives that CMR has created for this program. Folks, is it that long ago that we don’t remember the Donnan and Goff days? I agree that we have coaching issues and I think CMR needs to make some changes. But let’s CMR make those changes. If he doesn’t then fine, we need a new HC.

We have another group of “fans” that want to lose to the nerds because they either don’t want to go to a bowl game or they want to ensure that CMR, et al will get the axe (see my first point). WTF? Why would a true Dawg fan EVER want to lose to the bugs? EVER? Have these fans no sense of pride or self-respect? I’m not saying that we will probably win but I do think we have a chance! Let’s play the game. Things can happen in any game, especially a rival game.

We have another group of fans that I would call the ‘cool-aid drinkers.’ These are the blind homers that say we’re going to destroy or blowout the nerds. What in God’s green earth are these people thinking? They make other Dawg fans look absolutely stupid. If we are going to be honest the bugs are favored and they should be. That doesn’t mean that we can’t be the spoiler or can’t win the game. But let’s not look stupid by predicting a blowout for UGA when NOTHING demonstrates that this likely the case, particularly when a blowout for nerdville is infinitely more likely.

Why can’t we support our team, no matter what? Why can’t we give CMR a chance in the off-season to make some changes? Why don’t we support our team through EVERY game, including a bowl game? Why don’t we reserve all of the non-sensical homerism talking about “blowing out” the nerds (or anyone for that matter) until after we blow them out?

I’m sorry that my beloved Dawgs are struggling like they are. I don’t think it’s long term and I do know that the players, the University, the coaches and the rest of Dawg Nation deserve to have the fans firmly behind them, through thick and thin, Those are my thoughts.

Go Dawgs!
