According to ESPN's ACC expert, Tech won't win this time. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
Say this for Heather Dinich of ESPN.com: She’s consistent. She didn’t pick Georgia Tech to win the Coastal Division, and she’s not picking the Coastal champ to win the ACC title.
Ms. Dinich call her choice of Clemson over Tech in Tampa on Dec. 5 a “wacky prediction.” I wouldn’t call it wacky. I’d just call it misguided. You can make a case for Clemson. You can make a much better one for Tech.
Winning the ACC would put Clemson in the Orange Bowl. So where, according to Ms. Dinich, would Tech land? The Chick-fil-A? Nope. She has Georgia Tech falling behind Virginia Tech in the pecking order and landing in the Gator Bowl against a Big East opponent or Notre Dame. (I understand the Chick-fil-A might not want to have Georgia Tech for a second consecutive year, but I also understand that there would be local pressure from Jacket fans to keep Tech out of Jacksonvile.)
But … Notre Dame? Is it even bowl-eligible? And if so, is it bowl-worthy?
The AJC sports columnist is a blogging fool. But you knew that already

This should be one for the ages. And I do think you can make a serious case for Clemson. They’ve got some real talent and have been improving every week; definitely a team on the rise. However, if Tech plays keep-away succesfully, i.e no turnovers, they should win this game pretty decisively.

Good morning dog nation,
Wow. Talk about “fair weather” and “bandwagon” fans! With 2:10 to go in the game, down by ONE score with THREE time outs left and the stadium exits were packed with the dog nation fans?
The same dog nation fans that lecture me here on having CLASS? hahaha.
You azzholes are spoiled rotten and deserve everything negative that comes your way.
In the final 2 minutes:
Bobby Dodd = 50,000 fans in their seats supporting their team
Sanford = 50,000 fans in their exits supporting themselves
No wonder all your better players ALSO bolt for the exit (NFL) after 3 seasons.
You guys are impossible to play for!

A few facts about Sanford Stadium (and the dog nation)
1. Seating capacity 92,678
2. Exit row capacity (in the final 2 minutes of a close game) 49,821
3. Talk about a “lack of discipline”
4. 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 Cokes, and 40,000 fans turning their backs on their team!

Well, make the case for Tech Mr. Bradley.
Here’s what I think most tech fans will argue:
1) we (Tech) are MUCH BETTER on Offense than we were when we first played Clemson.
Rebuttal ~ TRUE, however so is Clemson.
2) we (Tech) just have to contain Spiller.
Rebuttal ~ FALSE, several players not named Spiller have stepped up.
3) we (Tech) can throw the ball now.
Rebuttal ~ TRUE, of course we would LOVE for you to throw the ball (Clemson is one of the top pass defenses in the country)
4) we (Tech) have a BETTER Coach.
Rebuttal ~ MAYBE, in overall history, Johnson wins that argument, but in recent history one could make the case for Dabo Swinney… in his 1st full year with HIS Staff he’s made the ACCCG.
5) we (Tech) “own” Clemson.
Rebuttal ~ MAYBE, in the last 10 years Clemson is 4-6 vs the jackets. We’ve had the infamous punt snap mishap, the TD called back because we only had 10 guys on the field, the Clavin Johnson miracle catch, and this years… spot you 21 game. GT Has beaten us more than we’ve beaten them… but they’ve all been close games with the exception of Clemson wins… which some have been blowouts.
It’s a valid prediction to think Clemson might pull this one out. I DO think it will be the best ACCCG the conference has put together since the inception of the game.

The fact is, ESPN needs CJ Spiller for their talking points more than Nesbitt, Dwyer, Bebe, Wright, Peebles, and a crazy coach that’d rather go for it on fourth down than be complicit enough to punt.
They have their agenda. They need to just go back to planning on selecting their Gameday venue to hype their ABC game of the evening out on the West coast.

No MB, you are too slow. Heather’s been predicting it for at least the last two weeks. In fact, I don’t think she has ever liked Tech over GT. At the very least, the headline that she “now” likes Clemson over Tech is incorrect.
http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/6338/updated-acc-bowl-projections-new-acc-champ
Also, Acworth Dawg, get a life. Other people are gonna voice their opinion. Instead of wasting your time collecting posts from someone you disagree with, maybe you should either calm down and not take it so seriously or, if you can’t, stop reading these posts.
Fact remains, the stadium emptied last night when uga still had a chance to win. For a supposedly great fanbase, that was a terrible way to support the institution and the players. For all those claiming that you only do it to show that you don’t support Willie, or the strength and conditioning coach, etc., you still deserted your players when they needed you. Way to jump off the bandwagon just as soon as you jumped on it in 2002.
The fact also remains that there are decent odds you go to the Papajohns bowl, as yellow fuzz creatively expressed. Not even the Independence bowl will want uga with the way their fans are throwing their own team under the bus. God forbid Rutgers gets up early and all the uga fans leave. Where would all the concessions revenue come from?
Yellow Fuzz is taking facts that you don’t like and putting a creative spin on them. I don’t think its his posts that are making you angry, its the fact that uga looked terrible last night in the fourth quarter. Hoping you guys show up on Saturday…

Of course she picks clemson. She’s picked against gt almost every game this year. And she’s look very stupid doing so. Why would she change how? And pj has made her look like a silly fool in the post game conference. Who is this idiot anyway? Never even heard of her before this season. She obviously has no clue about football. Anyone picking a team with a freshman qb in a title game against a team with so much talent as gt and pj as the coach is not thinking clearly. I see this game like most of gt’s where it’s close early and we pull away at the end. But…
I think the games next week will tell us a lot. If clemson struggles against sc, then I think we crush them. We obviously have the better coach. Did ya see Dabo’s 4th down call against va. If clemson hangs with sc and beats them, then it might be closer than expected. I think we will win by 8-12 points.

1. Who are those co-eds in the picture at the top of the post? My, now GT has changed in recent years…
2. HD, not ESPN, has been picking Clemson over GT for weeks – not new news.
3. UGA is in for serious trouble Saturday night at BDS@HGF. Only the SEC officials misunderstanding of a “chop block” could allow UGA to stick around for the 2nd half…GT will “cut block” you to kingdom come, but “chop blocks” only occur when the D gets sloppy or tired out.
UGA cannot run the ball, so GT D will sit back and defend the pass…exactly like it did at Duke. And Thad Young at Duke is head and shoulders above Cox at UGA as far as QB skills go.
Will be a long night for UGA…can’t even beat a gimmicky high school offense in a high school stadium…6-6 on the year…wow how the “mighty” have fallen.

Joe, I don’t think anyone is saying Clempson can’t win. I think most expect Tech to win because they are simply a better team.
1) re better coach – I hope you are joking. Clemson would be lucky to be fourth in the Atlantic. You base your entire argument on Dabo’s ability to skirt through a relatively weak schedule. Don’t get me wrong, Clemson is a solid team, but their big wins over decent teams starts and ends with Miami. GT has beaten UNC, you guys, AND VT. In the Sagarin SOS, y’all are 33 while GT is 12. Moreover, you lost to the two best teams you faced all year. We beat the best two (you and VT). Do you also not remember everyone expressing doubts in Dabo’s ability at the start of the season after the 2-3 start? The Miami win was great and helped us a bunch, but the wins over Wake (at home), Coastal Carolina, FSU (at home), NC State, and Virginia (at home) just aren’t that impressive. Dabo might have “his staff,” but Spiller and Ford are certainly not “his” players.
We’ll see how you do against USC next week.
2) Re Spiller, you “may” have other players, but your rush offense is incredibly dependent on Spiller. He’s got 48.7 % of your rushing yards. By comparison, Dwyer only has 34.8% of GT’s rushing yards. That’s not including total yards, where he dominates even more (65-70% of kickoff/punt return yards). Taking Spiller out of the equation, your best WR has 300 yards less than Bey Bey Thomas and your second best rusher (Ellington) has less rushing yards than our #2 (Nesbitt) AND our #3 (Allen). That means, taking Dwyer and Spiller out of the equation, we’ve got a better playmaker at WR and two better playmakers at RB. That’s not counting Roddy Jones who started the season out with a wrist injury but is coming on as of late.
Nobody is saying that other people on Clemson can’t score, but you can’t deny that he is your primary playmaker and the other guys, for the most part, haven’t put up huge stats.
3) Just shows your football ignorance. You may have one of the “best” pass defenses in the country, but whatever pass defense you throw at us is not going to be the same one you’ve used in every other game or you will get burned on the ground big time. Bey Bey is gonna be in man coverage for most, if not all, of the game. There aren’t any schemes you can use that successfully defend the rush and allow for double coverage on him. Moreover, we only throw the ball when the defense allows us to. If y’all are gonna play to the pass, we will definitely be running it down your throat all day. Going back to the first game, you were overselling the run and left WRs open all game long – Nesbitt just happened not to hit them. You simply can’t compare your pass defense running different schemes to whatever scheme you decide to trot out against Tech this time, it’s apples to oranges.

Well ash, I am not so sure clemson is as good as their record indicates. They struggled to put away nc state and if not for a blantant bad call, that game would have been much different. They struggled against Va yesterday.
Jow–So tech will win by 6 or less since it’s happened the past 3-4 times? Gt has at least doubled the point spread 9 of the last 10 games. I expect the line to be gt by 4-6. Hence 8-12.

Dinich is a bandwagon fan, for every bandwagon except GT. She hopped on the Miami wagon early, then rode VT for a while, now she’s on Clemson who has been playing the terrible ACC Atlantic since their win over Miami. The only team that’s been consistent over the course of the year is GT. You’d think she’d figure that out and get on a bandwagon that’s not going to lose it’s wheels. Every time she picks tech to lose, we win. I’m not too concerned.

Heather is seeking traffic on her not so read blog. She has a complex. She has said all year how the ACC is subpar while not even noticing that ESPN assigned her to cover… THE ACC.
Instead, she should have been touting the ACC and attracking traffic from readers outside the ACC. Interesting cases like Wake over Stanford, Miami over OK, GA Tech 2-0 against the ACC with one more game to go. Comparisons of GA Tech’s schedule to say FL’s… Tech shares four teams with FL. She could have made some interesting noise. Instead she chose to beat down the conference and the current poll leader of the conference.
Seeing that ESPN has its contract with the SEC, it seems as though ESPN knew what they where doing when they assigned her to the ACC.

Not sure what the big issue is about HD. She worked at the Washington Post as the beat Terp writer which got her the job at ESPN. She’s been considerably biased since 2008, when she predicted Maryland was going to have a break out year and win the Atlantic outright. As we all know they finished 8-5. In general, she continues to be biased toward the Atlantic division despite the obviously superior Coastal divison, with the exception of my Noles. She’s had it out for us since she was at the Post. The rumor is we got stuck with her on ESPN as the ACC beat writer because most of the good journalists in the south follow the SEC.
Anyway, let’s hope the ACC makes a good showing this week with CU-USC, GT-UGA, and FSU-UF. I’m predicting 2 out of 3 wins for the ACC… I just wish that FSU was one of them, although I don’t think that’s likely.
As far as the ACCCG is concerned, Spiller, Ford, and Parker will get their points and GT will probably have a slow start. The difference though will be the adjustments that Johnson makes in the second half. He’s a wizard at adjustments which demonstrates his superior coaching talent. Dabo won’t have a clue. GT wins by 10+ points but the outcome won’t be clear until the 4Q.
Good luck to my ACC brethren! Go NOLES!

Not sure who is the most arrogant, you or your fellow AJC sports idiot Jeff, but why you and the entire downtown, big city jerks think Paul Johnson is so much better coach than anyone else, especially any coach from Clemson is beyond me. Is Johnson a good coach – sure; is he the best in the country – doubtful. Yet, all we hear is there is no way GaTech will lose to Swinney. Well, guess what bonehead, if not for a still waiting to be discovered holding call (two years in a row by the way) on the last Clemson drive, the Tigers might would have won the game in Atlanta against the World’s Most Brilliant Coach. EVERY person who watched the game would tell you Clemson was the better team, just got off to a horrid start. Does that mean Clemson wins in Tampa – of course not. But it grinds the nerves of every sane sport fan to see “journalist”, who self-believe they know more than anyone else, act like Swinney is a pathetic, low level coach who can’t compete with the great Paul Johnson.
Let’s see what Tech does next year when they lose Dwyer, Thomas and Morgan and Clemson loses Spiller, Ford and Sapp.
Maybe the AJC should look at why their readership continues to drop; are readers saying no to more of this dribble masquerading as journalism?? Maybe Coach Johnson can use his supreme powers and advise you on this subject.

No surprise here. She just doesn’t like Tech. She whined when VT was beaten thus eliminating them from a possible chance to play in a national championship game, like they are the only ones from the conference that could possibly be good enough to play in such a game. She whined when Miami forgot that that the U was back and started losing. She has never given GT any credit and that is fine. Make no mistake, Clemson will be tough, but when we win, I will send her an email and tell her not to jump on our bandwagon as we do not want her and do not need her approval. She is quite honestly pathetic…sorta like the dogs at the cesspool. I wonder how many times she has strapped on a helmet and gone through spring training and fall practice. ESPN will never admit it but there has been an obvious bias against Georgia Tech and the ACC in general this year (even against Clemson, until the Heisman situation’s lack of a true leading candidate this year and folks started jumping on the Spiller bandwagon to a degree). I think it is what I hate most about the BCS mentality. It doesn’t matter how good you are; everything must be based on ratings and match-ups and dollar power. You have to go along to get along it seems. Before retiring I worked in the media for more than 40 years, but I have never seen a time when there is so much business interfering with journalism and reality. The so-called experts who picked teams earlier in the year are just not going to admit they were wrong. The SEC is a good conference, but take away Alabama and Florida (I’m trying to ignore these two team’s cupcake schedules, especially this past weekend) and the SEC is no better than any other conference this year. It is said that perception is reality, but in the real, factual sporting world this year, I think some folks have just got it wrong. I only wish the NCAA would do its job and outlaw the BCS and give every team a chance to score on an even playing field.

Who wants to get over the Boogie Man? I respect his opinion. I also form my on opinion from his blogs. “Look, the Dawgs are having a bad year, which is sad. I actually like UGA. My brother is a dawg among dawgs; furthermore the only time I don’t pull for the pups is when they play Georgia Tech.” That being said, Who cares what the opinion of one ESPN person happens to be. I doesn’t matter if it’s male or female.
I know for a fact Clemson has improved since the beginning of the year. It can also be stated that Georgia Tech has improved on Offense and Defense. When it comes to who you like as a Coach in this game. I would pick Paul Johnson over Dabo 99 out of 100. Techs improvement and Coaching gives them the edge. It’s opinion, but it’s back by facts.
The ACCCG will be a good one.

Dinich does not like Georgia Tech. Before GT beat VT, her favorite team was VT, and she jumped on the bandwagon with Beamer about GT’s chop blocks, she does not like GT. Perhaps Coach Johnson is not a Dinich favorite or did not return her calls for an interview, who knows, but she does not like Tech and has been calling for GT to lose to Clemson for weeks. She all but has her cubicle at ESPN rolled in Clemson Orange and Purple and has not had ANYTHING positive to say about Georgia Tech for weeks.

Thanks for the comments above.
Seriously guys, Heather Dinich is a joke at ESPN. Yes, she’s a novelty being a decent looking young girl that wants to be a sports writer/reporter. Mark Shlabach hinted as much in an off-screen comment on SportsNite (I know one of the producers). Mark should know since he works with Heather on several projects together. Let’s face it, ESPN has been instructed to show diversity since becoming part of Walt Disney. At one time it was a “boys club” and a couple of lawsuits were aimed their way in the early days because of it. When WD got involved they hired a Director of Diversity to make sure they were perceived as being fair-minded in the hiring and advancement of personnel. However, the job of “Diversity” has the nickname “Adversity” within the ESPN, unspoken culture because of some controversial hiring decisions. Although HD wasn’t one of those controversial decisons (that I’m aware of) you can certainly see why she fit the Diversity goal for ESPN and their parent WD.
That being said, I don’t think any serious football minded fans should pay her or her predictions much attention. She was relegated to the ACC football beat because ESPN doesn’t think much of the ACC in football. You won’t see junior writers like Heather Dinich covering ACC basketball though, because the ESPN looks at ACC basketball in a completely different light.
If I were a Clemson fan I would be very concerned about her prediction for the ACCCG. Heather has been proven to be wrong too many times to be a credible opinion. She’s much better reporting sports than predicting outcomes.
I’m not pulling for either team in the ACCCG. I hope that there is a good turnout and it’s an exciting game. In that respect I think both Clemson and GT will do their parts. I think the best team (right now) is Tech but Clemson will have the best player on the field in Spiller, and he could be a difference maker. And, although Dabo made a couple of good hires in the off-season, he simply doesn’t have enough game experience for me to pick him over the crafty Johnson. But folks, this game could go either way. May the best team win!
Go Noles! Gator is on the menu!

Hey Boogie, I understand the dilemma. There’s nothing to do around Hartwell after summer and the two closest teams are Clemson and Georgia. My guess is that you pull for both teams and you’re probably having a rough day after the game between the hedges yesterday, so you’re singing the Tiger mantra today. All of that is completely understandable, which also makes your obvious bias toward Tech very understandable. But that doesn’t change the facts. UGA is unranked and 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the SEC. Clemson is #23 in the BCS with an 8-3 overall record and 6-2 in the ACC. Compare that with Tech which is #7 in the BCS with a 10-1 overall record and 7-1 in the ACC.

Regardless of predictions on the ACCCG, this article and discussion is a week premature. This week it’s all about preparing to beat the Dawgs. Period. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. The Dawgs know that they can at least restore a little pride and take the luster off of Tampa if they can upset the Jackets. Points that I am sure CPJ will be driving home all week. Clemson who ? Dimwit Dinich has been consistently wrong with her “predictions” all year long. And we have consistently proven her wrong…so in that sense, we might owe her a “thanks” EIther way, she is a sorry excuse for a sports writer.

He is a Bulldawg fan, who has nothing left to cheer for, so he comes on here talking up another team, so if he gets lucky it makes him think he is smart. Really sad that you have to change teams over and over hoping for someone else to beat us because you know your Bulldawgs can’t. Don’t worry BOOGIE MAN, when we get to the Orange Bowl you will have another different team to cheer for!

Clemson was 2-1 vs the Coastal division.
And overall Common opponents were…
Miami (CU won by 3 in OT, GT Lost by 16)
Virginia (Clemson won by 14 GT Won by 25)
FSU (Clemson won by 16 GT Won by 5)
Wake (Clemson won by 35 GT won by 3 in OT)
and the first meeting was a 3 point come from behind GT win.
I don’t think it is “wacky” to see a potential Clemson win in the ACCCG.

Why are Bradley and some of these bloggers so stunned that she would pick clemson over tech? Didn’t Clemson almost come roaring back to beat Tech the first time they played? And no one can argue that Clemson is a much better team than the one tech played earlier in the season. Clemson has the big physical defensive line that can give Tech problems with their option game. And Clemson’s offense is very explosive and Tech’s defense is weak. If I were a Tech fan I would be scared to death about having that rematch with Clemson, especially with #28 on that other sideline. Is there a better college football player than CJ Spiller? Its going to be a great game and I wouldn’t be shocked to see it go either way.

roan st.; Can Clemson win, sure they can! But, what is the deal with Clemson being SOOO Much better since the first game, but GT is just the same as it was. The option is being run better with some new variations since the first game, the passing game was almost non existent in the first game because Nesbitt was struggling, but he is getting better and better and most of all the defense is much improved after Dave Wommack was told by Coach Johnson to simplify the schemes.
So there are your comments!!!!

Lets take care of UGA first then we will worry about Clemson. Yes Clemson is rolling but GT is a much better team then they were when they played in week 3. CPJ’s Offense is running and keeping defenses off balance with the pass. Clemsons Spiller is a great player and so is Jacoby Ford. Their defense is good too. I was surprised UVA scored 21 on them though. I don’t think GT would ever overlook the dawgs next week. They’ve always played hard and aggressive and showed up to play with a lot emotion even when UGA had much stronger teams.

I’m not surprised, since during the Clemson game they kept saying that Clemson really beat Tech, but Tech used an illegal formation to win. ESPN is typical of most media today, they want things to be a certain way, and bias all of their reporting to support it. I’m glad Tech’s playing Clemson again to, yeah Clemson isn’t the same team Tech played but Tech isn’t either. By the way, Clemson has to play South Carolina next week, so they don’t get a bye before the ACC championship game.

Any team (pick one) in the top 6 could whip GT. If I was a DL I would simply take a step back when GT snaps the ball and go for the QB/RB after walking over the OL who dived at my knees. The GT OLs are taught to cut block and that will never, ever work in the long haul. Paul Johnson is an azzhole for coaching that crap and it will wind up biting him in the azz. Having an azzhole coach and fans that won’t travel…forget that…can’t even fill their own stadium guarantees GT will have an extremely tough time ever getting in a game more significant than the ACC title game. No ACC team not named VT, Clemson, or FSU will ever see a game that expects to fill stadiums, hotel rooms, and boost a local economy. GT is a dud in that regard. Just the way it is. OK – so you take exception with Heather Dinich’s pick of Clemson over GT. Fine. Not a problem. But how about offering something in the way of an argument as to why you think Ms. Dinich is so full of it, other than the fact that Tech has Paul Johnson and Clemson has Dabo Swinney?
Yes, Paul Johnson has been a head coach longer than Dabo Swinney, and has had more success in his career. Gotcha.
Last I checked, Johnson and Swinney were tied in National Championships with 0.
Last I checked, the coaches don’t play the game; the players do.
Yes, Georgia Tech is 10-1 and ranked in the national top 10. They’re good. But they’re hardly unbeatable. They struggled with Wake Forest and Vanderbilt in the first half — two not really all that good teams. And yes, a lot of time has passed, but this is the same team that laid an egg (on national TV, no less) against a decent-but-far-from-great Miami team.
All you’ve managed to do with this particular piece is look like a homer popping off against a perceived lack of respect. Which is fine, I guess, if that’s all you were trying to do. But why not aim a little higher?

Ben, your team had to go to OT just to beat WF. No way you should be ranked in the top 10 and you know it. Weak schedule = late season disappointments. I hate the way the offense cut blocks the defensive players and that’s why I hate your team. What other team has OL players diving at the knees of opposing DL players as soon as the ball is snapped? Legal? Yeah, I guess. Sportsmanlike? Um, nope. Watch #71 the next time you view your beloved Jackets. The risk of knee injury to an opposing player is fairly significant and should not be allowed. Whatever happened to just standing up and engaging your opponent in a brace at the line? That’s Johnson’s gimmick right there – cut blocking. It’s legal but really should not be. It’s pretty sad when you must resort to tactics like that but I guess a small school will take wins regardless of how they are achieved. In due time it will all come back to haunt your school and cut blocking coach.

Get over it. Tell me one team in the entire NCAA that doesn’t use cut blocks and I’ll show you just how little you know about football. I was laughing on a play during the UGA-LSU game because the entire LSU team on a 3rd and short play dove straight for the DL’s ankles. No mention was even made of it but I guarantee you if it was Tech, they’d be going on for several minutes.
As far as Heather goes, so what. And I don’t really give a darn about her % calls on the ACC. I could get 70% right without even hardly trying, especially if you are making the calls without a point spread. She obviously has no impatiality with her reporting, not because of Tech/Clemson, but because of the way she has consistently predicted against Tech and been wrong on so many occasions. She is a never-was, hoping to be a has-been, and most likely settling for a coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Tom, I think you’re a tard. I’ll give it to you that Bradley didn’t propose a lot of facts in his comments. But, I’ll provide the analysis that MB did not:
National Championships: Frank Beamer (VT), Jeff Tetford (Cal), Houston Nutt (Ole Miss) = 0. I don’t think you can argue that Dabo is just as good as them. I’m not saying he’s an r-tard like you, just that he doesn’t belong in that group yet.
The WF team you mentioned as not being that good has lost 5 of its 7 losses by three points, including 2 OTs.
GT has four common opponents with the concensus number 1 Florida Gators. We beat Miss St by 9, UF beat them by 10. We beat Vandy by 25, UF won by 24. We’ll know more after the FSU and UGA games this weekend, but comparatively we’re looking about as good as UF when it comes to common opponents.
Lastly, when you say the coaches don’t play, but the players do, you sound like a fool. Technically, you’re correct of course. CPJ has had zero caries in his lifetime. However, the head coach means more in college football than any other sport, except maybe the NBA, where another CPJ dominates. Think about it: Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll, Jimmy Johnson, and, yes, CPJ are all cut from the same cloth. They are smarter than the other guy; they win football games because they want to rip your ba!!$ off and shove them down your neck. It’s not a mystery that the same coaches win year in and year out, even as players come and go. Dabo Swinney may one day be the stuff of legends; but Paul Johnson already is. After beating UGA he will have won more games in his first 12 seasons than any other coach in college football history.
And, before you say that those games don’t count because he was a coach in Div II, wrong again. Jim Tressel won a national championship at Youngstown St and then came to Ohio St and did the same thing. CPJ won two as a head coach and one or two as an assistant coach. The dude is a winner every where he goes. That’s not chance.

Mark maybe she is betting based on history. GT inevitably melts down at some point. The most recent being the LSU game last year. GT has 3 chances left to repeat history or overcome it. It’s not like Tech has proven it can handle success yet. It’s up to Tech to change that perception.

Using your logic Tokyo Jacket, Eddie Robinson is the greatest coach to stalk a sideline. It does matter where a coach gets those wins. Jim Donnan won 1 of those NCs at Marshall and racked up tons of wins. Does that make him “the stuff of legends”? And is that Montana coach that has won all those NCs with the Griz a legend? Paul Johnson is a legend only to GT, Navy, and GSU fans, and maybe in his own mind. If there is a guy that is the “stuff of legends” it is Erskine Russell. If Russell doesn’t start the GSU program from scratch, win multiple NCs and hand Paul Johnson that program on a silver platter does anybody even know who Paul Johnson is today? Probably not.

When Paul Johnson does what the likes of John Robinson, Tom Osborne, Darrell Royal, and Bear Bryant have done on the big stage, then he is a “legend”. Until then he is just another good coach. In fact he has a long way to go to even catch Eddie Robinson. Using your logic and your criteria there are hundreds of “legends”. Calling Paul Johnson a “legend” is an insult to all those coaches that have earned that designator.

By far the best-known sports program at Mount Union is football, led by head coach Larry Kehres (275-21-3, .929 over 23 seasons), which has won a record ten Division III national championships—all since 1993.
Paul Johnson can’t carry Larry Kehres jockstrap Tokyo Jacket. Using your logic and the level of competition doesn’t matter, Kehres must be the greatest coach in the history of the game. Paul Johnson a legend? Not even close.

I’m a Jacket girl and I absolutely love college football…there is nothing better than a fall Saturday spent watching football and eating wings. And as much as I love football, I have never played a minute of it and I wouldn’t know what it’s really like to be on the field with thousands of fans yelling at you. And as much as I love to watch and talk football, I agree that women should not be sports reporters. Men won’t believe you and certainly don’t give a damn what you say unless you report naked (and even then won’t listen) and women will think you are just trying to be a pretty piece of a$$ for their husbands to look at.

CPJ’s resume at Tech is the stuff of legends, though he isn’t one yet. But he is becoming one at Tech. You’re right. CPJ isn’t the legend that those other coaches are because they won a national championship at the highest level. But, at GT, he is quickly becoming a legend. He may become the legend that got The Reverend CMR fired by this time next year.
Here are some interesting streaks that CPJ has broken:
1. 7 Consecutive losses to UGA
2. Not winning at UVA since 1990
3. (If we beat UGA as expected) at least one loss every year to an unranked team since 1990
4. Not beating FSU since they joined the ACC
5. Never beating FSU in Tallahassee…ever
CPJ’s record in big games: FSU 2-0, CLEM 2-0, UGA 1-0, UNC 1-1, VT 1-1, The U 1-1. CPJ’s record against the SEC 4-1.
One more thing. I was incorrect, they weren’t Div 2 wins, they were Div 1-AA, so they still count on the records. I’m glad you pointed out Tom Osborne because it’s his record that CPJ will break with a win Saturday. Last comment, also since you pointed it out, how did Erk Russell win those NC’s at GSU? Oh, that’s right, with CPJ as the Offensive Coordinator.

There are some very good female sports reporters but she’s not one of them..Dingbat comes to mind. The Clemson game was the 2nd game of the season. Remember the 1st? CPJ said the worst thing that happened to Tech was that first score. He said they started to coast after that and forgot how to play with intensity. Same thing happened with the Clemson game. Only the 4th quarter rolls around and Nesbitt starts reading off the NT instead of the DE. What do you know? Tech starts going again and Clemson can’t figure out what happened.
Fast forward to the VT game: after a lackluster 1st half, CPJ changes the OL blocking scheme wholesale. VT can’t react and look like they don’t know what the heck is going on.
That’s what BOOGER and all these guys aren’t considering. Who cares about passer ratings, avg. yards per rush, and whether Wake was beat by 3 or 30 pts? The point is, Georgia Tech will win because the offense is much more flexible and reacts to the successes of the other team by turning it against them. Clemson D will have success against Tech, but then CPJ will pull them in a bit and turn things around to the point where the DE won’t know up from down, and the LB’s will wonder why the DE’s weren’t covering the QB like earlier. Pretty soon: discomboulation. It will be beautiful.
Having said that… The only team that can beat Georgia Tech the next two weeks is… Georgia Tech. We gotta take care of Georgia first, then think about the Tiggers.
I can’t wait to paint Tampa Old Gold and White. It will be beautiful.

What makews me think we will win against Clemson by more than earlier in the year? Yes I admit Clemson has goetten better, but so has Tech….on both sides of the ball. HD’s been a Clemson homer all year, no surprise there. And I am sure she really hated it when CPJ called her out in person at the post game. She probably won’t attend one of our games next year at all in my opinion.
Its funny how some Clemson fan called Bradley a homer……well it is the AJC and jsut down the road from tEch so if we are not getting love from them then who else? Go complain to the spartanburg (if they ahve one) or greenville paper about being homers… But that’s what he’s supposed to do. Tech has been very good this year look at the record. Previously, I would have wanted Tech to play a weaker opponent. I was worried about quite a few games before they happened this year. But with Johnson, I’m pretty confident he gets our team ready to play the better teams so bring on the Tigers!
Its also funny how the 790 guys rip on Dabo. I think he’s done a good job. But I believe CPJ has done better. And to those who have posted “with his players” on either side. Get a grip, both coaches are playing with past coaches recruiting classes. And Clemson ahs been r9anked much higher than Tech each year and we still find a way to win.
The Clemson fan whos saying “You better look out for CJ, Ford, etc” – yeah, but we got guys who will be playing on Sunday too. And probably go higher in the draft. We will see who will do better at the next level running the ball and I’ll bet it will be the Diesel.
Our Defense has gotten better since the Clemson game too. But you can’t argue with the offensive numbers put up by either team. I agree this is the best the ACC has to offer.
Go Jackets!!
HEy UGA fans on here whining about your blog full of cocky Tech fans, just dishing out what your fans have given us each year since these blogs have opened. Sucks doesn’t it? Get over it. I get so tired of all the GT fairweather nerd fans thinking Paul Johnson is some kind of football god and Clemson coach Swinney is some kind of idiot. It was Clemson who made the adjustments in the Clemson-GT game to bring Clemson 27-24 after falling behind 0-24 early. Where was Johnson’s mastery of adjustments during that stretch when GT went something like 5 drives without a single first down?
GT fans may love him now, but they’ll be ready to run him out of Atlanta in about 3 years when they see that few top players want to play in that antiquated triple option offense.

For all those who have knocked ESPN because of Heather’s prediction, it should be pointed out that there other two prognosticators (Mark Schlabach and Bruce Feldman) have both projected GT to travel to the Orange Bowl. So that makes two out of three “analysts” who pick Tech … does that seem unreasonable? I think not. While it’s true that HD has been overtly “anti-GT” since the start of the season, it’s also reasonable to think that Clemson could win the game in Tampa.
Honestly, going into the season, how many people would have predicted that Washington would beat USC, that NC State could knock off Pitt, or that Kentucky could win in Athens for the first time in 38 years?! I doubt that anyone would have predicted these outcomes … and I’m almost certain that no one would have BET on them. Nevertheless, each of these events took place.
I think the Yellow Jackets have the ABILITY to beat Clemson for the second time this season, but it doesn’t surprise me that one out of three analysts might disagree. Clemson is a good football team, with good skill people and a good coaching staff. Tech will need to play its “A-game” that Saturday night in Tampa. The Jackets have already proven that they can beat the Tigers once this season. Let’s just hope they will do it again.

I must admit the leghumper’s tears are nutrition for my soul; sweet sweet water like finding an oasis while lost in the desert. However, I don’t know what you expected. You guys hired a coach who tries to be jesus, when everyone with any analytical sense at all knows that religion is just a crutch for the masses; yet we endured all these stories about St. Richt and how he was a good christian man and was raising these kids right. Sure – your fairy tale is better than the rest of the world’s, what if these kids happened to be born in a country that was not majority christian? What then? Would your St. Richt be telling them they would go to hell without the almighty jesus christ as their saviour? I think not, otherwise he would be losing a good football player and we all know that church is held at Sanford & Son Stadium on Saturdays. Apparently, he is like most christians, what he says he believes is only good PR and has no relevance regarding what he does or who he associates with; otherwise, the fleabags would not have a team full of criminals.
Also, I really have to wonder why a black athlete would even choose to go to Leghumper U. to start with, so he could be pulled over on campus for Driving While Black? It seems none of your athletes are smart enough to get a drivers license and the number one thing that the UGA & Athens police dept. look for is black drivers. Hell, look at the fleabags message boards if you want to see racism in action, or better yet, look around the campus and try to find the black students who aren’t athletes, then talk to the 5 of them about their experiences at Leghumper U. You may see a different story. For those that are athletes, take consolation in knowing that you will forever be referred to by all those fratboys as proof that they aren’t racist by claiming you as their “black friends” that they have in routine conversations after they’ve been called out on their racism for making a racist joke in public.

but he ain’t never fell.
And if the Techies don’t believe that
they can all go straight to hell.
We’re gonna put UGA’s feet
on the path of a Winning streak
and then God bless UGA nation again.
And you never did think that it ever would happen again.
In Georgia, did you?
You never did think that we’d ever get together again.
Well we damn sure fooled you.
We’re walking real proud and we’re talking real loud again
In UGA Nation.
You never did think that it ever would happen again.
NOW WE MAY HAVE DONE A LITTLE BIT OF FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES,
BUT YOU OUTSIDE PEOPLE BEST LEAVE US ALONE.
Cause we’ll all stick together
and you can take that to the bank.
That’s the Gators and the Jackets and the rebels and the yanks.
You just go and lay your hand on a Georgia BULLDAWG fan
and I think you’re gonna finally understand.
And you never did think that it ever would happen again.
In Georgia, did you?
You never did think that we’d ever get together again.
Well we damn sure fooled you.
We’re walking real proud and we’re talking real loud again
In UGA Nation.
You never did think that it ever would happen again.
Thank you Charlie!

Is the BOOGER EATER FROM HARTWELL GA still on the blog?
I thought he had a stroke after the KY game.

Ya’ll know that both those second half interceptions by KY were by Hartwell GA boys that CMR didn’t recruit.

BOOGER EATER …. THE SAME BEFORE AND AFTER !
Back to the subject….. Why in the hell should I listen to the unqualified remarks of a reporterette!??
Perhaps she should be selling Pharmaceuticals. Maybe she could sell Hummers? Just a thought.
Equal opportunity has really outdone itself this time. She should get on the field and take a couple hits…. then she would just shut up and go away.

Bradley’s next headlines:
1. Garbage man predicts interest rate rise
2. Local school nurse develops health care overhaul bill
3. Local ACORN office leads community ethics roundtable discussion
Heather Dinich a pundit??? Really! With what credentials? I’d rather hear what UGA VII has to say about the game.
Try again Mark.

Turned on ESPN this morning and what do I see…… A good prospect for defensive tackle and another women who had NO clue…… What is up with all these women on ESPN! Let me say this, I love women, but good grief, they don’t need to be doing sports commentary….

Man, you really think that you see the worst from the UGA nation…… Then you read the comment by fools gold…… Priceless….. It’s great to be a yellow jacket, and not have to be associated with that kind of drivel…

Although I cannot say I was or am a football player from Grusha Tech, I can say that I suspect Heather is a lezbian who does not like the fact that my alma mater used to be an all male school. I watched the Clemson game on tv from my recluse location, and it was easily won by Grusha Tech, leading me to expect the same blowout to occur again.

Georgia has been over rated since the 80’s. They play 2 good teams a year……….and lose them both. Impressive.
Sat. nite, in Atlanta, there will be no place to hide.
Paul Johnson will show why he is one of the BEST coaches in the country.
Mr. Richt will be his normal Mr. Smooth, trying to look the part.
Kind of pathetic.
Tech by a bunch.
