Bradley’s Buzz: UGA’s going to a bowl, but which one?

Gerogia's last trip to the Chick-fil-A was yummy. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

The last trip to the Chick-fil-A was yummy. Like a peach milkshake. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

The good news: Georgia is bowl-eligible. The not-so-good news: Shreveport still has a bowl. And, according to Matt Hayes of Sporting News Today, the Independence Bowl is where the Bulldogs are bound. (To face Iowa State, per Hayes.)

The better news: Four other bowl projectors see Georgia headed elsewhere. Stewart Mandel of SI.com has Georgia in the Music City Bowl against Boston College. Bruce Feldman of ESPN.com likewise tickets UGA for Nashville, but to oppose Florida State. Feldman’s colleague Mark Schlabach (who used to be my colleague) has Georgia coming to Atlanta for a Chick-fil-A date against Clemson. And CBSsports.com shows Georgia paired with East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.

What this all means: Nobody knows. We’re 19 days from Bowl Selection Sunday, and the projected field for Georgia hasn’t been narrowed much at all. If you’re counting, the five projections show four different destinations with dates ranging from Dec. 27, 2009, (Music City) to Jan. 2, 2010 (Liberty).

As for Tech: Not much mystery there. Every projection save one puts the Jackets in the Orange Bowl against TCU. The exception is Hayes in Sporting News Today. He has Clemson in the Orange and Tech in the Gator against Notre Dame. There was a time when playing (and beating) Notre Dame in Jacksonville was a big deal for Tech and George O’Leary, but this year such a date would be a colossal bringdown.

The good news: Won’t happen. Tech will win the ACC. Says me.

Its is a good bets that Dawgs end up in best bowl comparing to nerds. After nerds start there losing streaks and UGA table running, bowls dont want to invite sorry bugs fans who want traveling wells. Dawg fans is loud and prouds and big representing in bowls which they likes for the monies.

Besides would bowls rather have a good Christian man like Richt or an arrogant horses backside like Chuckie Weiss or Paul Johnson. I bet bowls dont want no gimickey offense to make boring bowl for TV broadcasting. People rather watching Dawgs who knows that forward passing exist specially for SEC speed teams with the talents.

Mark, can you write a blog about Bobo? I read where he didn’t realize Troupe was in the game when he called what turned out to be the 50 yard TD….Is he serious?? That is pathetic for a coach not to know his best player is NOT in the game!!!

What happens with UGA from here on out depends on whether Richt awakens from his sleep walk, quits walking around like he’s in a daze, and injects a little enthusiasm into his players.

He has no affect and looks like he’s got the thorazine shuffle as he walks the sidelines.

In reality, after the Tech beatdown, anywhere UGA goes will be anticlimatical.

The two-sided morality in your last quote is liable to give most readers whiplash. If you are going to go with the “good Christian man” angle, it’s best not to use derogatory terms like “nerds,” “bugs,” or calling two folks “arrogant” and “horses backsides.” (Although you should get a modicum of credit for cleaning the last one up.

Other than that, your conculsion to your first paragraph is also contridictory. Afterall, the love of money is the root of all evil….

Just a few thoughts heading into 2 huge Georgia Football weekends.

First, I’ve heard Kentucky Head Coach Rich Brooks has some new wrinkles in store for us this Saturday. While I’ve been applying Oil of Olay around my eyes for years I’ve noticed a few wrinkles of my own and have asked Willy to closely examine the situation and recommend a new plan.

I called a team meeting before the Auburn game. I told them that in spite of our mistakes early in the season we could more than make up for them with a strong finish to the season. Speaking of make up I’ve recently had to adjust mine because my skin broke out before the Tennessee Tech game after I changed to a new blush.

We’ve come back to win 2 big games after a disappointing performance in Jacksonville against Florida. Before the Auburn game I told our boys to go out, give 100 percent and I told them that when they look at themselves in the mirror they would be proud of their achievements. Just don’t ask to borrow my mirror.

Coach Johnson has done a magnificent job over at Tech. He always seems to have an answer for defensive adjustments. I had to make a personal adjustment last Saturday night during the 3rd quarter. It wasn’t caught on TV was it?

The word is that Tech has some surprises waiting in the closet for us in their game plan. Just so you know I a few of my own that I’m going to bring with me when I come out of the closet on November 28th.

And finally its just not the same around Sanford Stadium on Saturdays anymore since Munson left. My favorite memories were his opening remarks when he set the scene with “Get the Picture” until someone broke in to my office and stole my favorite photograph of myself.

Thanks and Go Dogs!

Redandblack80,

I was merely giving strategic advise on how he could improve his argument and cut out the internal contradictions. However, it appears that with much of the company he keeps, content is not an issue.

If you are going to pin your ears back against UF for not having a historical legacy dating more than 25-30 years, the fact that UGA has won 3-4 games in the past twenty years against them is of no-nevermind to you. This year, the most spirited game UF has played was the beating they put on the Dawgs.

While we’re talking history. If you look back to the slide UGA started last year, UGA was 1-3 against teams with a pulse. Kudos for the win against LSU in the swamp, but you lost to UF, Bama, and GT. This year, the trend continues as you are 0-3 against teams with a high-level winning percentage (OSU, UF, and LSU.) Even UT embarassed you. In fact, you haven’t beaten a team with 8 wins all season.

Oh and next year, you will be breaking in a new quarter back, loose your star wr to the nfl, and hope someone steps up at running back. You have quarterback and running back questions as it is now. Add receiver questions and you’ll be in a mode of rebuilding even more than this year.

That’s a historical trend worth discussing.

This is the time of year when the salts just about finished being poured and the wounds are stinging. Listen to me now and pay attention to me later. Believe me that you do not wish to become involved in an esoteric debate regarding the field of ethics. This blog is not the proper fora for such a discussion.

So you say that “money is the root of all evil?” Have you ever stopped to think, “What is the root of money?” If men cease to act morally by voluntarily exchanging goods and services using money, then the only other immoral option is force or guns. Money or guns is the choice of morality. There is no other.

The comment from Dawg Bone on the previous page just shows how ignorant some UGA fans are. He talks about how easy the ACC is and how UGA would destroy East Carolina. If you don’t see something wrong with that statement you should not be allowed to watch college football. East Carolina is not nor has ever been in the ACC. And again the ACC has the most ranked teams out of any conference(5). So bring it to Atlanta dawg fans. No chance Richt pulls a win against the new mad-scientist Paul Johnson

Benjamin

So Benjamin (10:40), you would also have expected before the season started for us to get our butts kicked by UT, UF, and probably Tech? Not me. With the talent we have on both sides of the ball, we should compete with anyone on our schedule. But we didn’t. I, for one am not happy about the season.

—-

Just saw this…

I would’ve expected us to lose (badly) to Florida and LSU, and to lose to Oklahoma State. I wouldn’t have expected a loss to Tennessee. Then again, I wouldn’t expect to beat Georgia Tech (then or now), but if we can win out, that would put us at an 8-4 regular season, which is pretty much exactly where I thought we’d be.

Georgia is in a retooling year, with a fifth year senior QB who’d gotten to play about as many snaps as I have of Division I football and several young offensive linemen and running backs helping him shoulder the load offensively. I can’t see how people seem to have expected them to be 10-2 and compete for the SEC.

A win over Kentucky and Georgia Tech would put us at 8-4, and the Tech win would be enough to push us (most likely) into a 23-24 spot in the rankings going into the bowl game. IF we can do that, I’m more than satisfied with the way the year’s gone.

See, when you follow Florida It is ALL about making it to National Championship Games. Under Mark Richt there is very little pressure. 13-1 to Florida will be a bad year. 13-1 in Athens and they are commissioning a statue of Mark in a Missionairy Position in Uganda.

A 6-6 georgia team should turn down a bowl bid. Going to a bowl with only 6 wins is embarrassing—plus, they will probably get beat, giving them a losing record. Tech will likely run the table and finish 13-1—not bad for a rebuilding year, since Gailey didn’t leave much talent.

There must be some mistake. Dwyer plays in that “gimmick”, “high school”, “triple option” system that no blue chip recruit with aspirations of playing in the NFL would ever consider………………Hahahaha.
