The last trip to the Chick-fil-A was yummy. Like a peach milkshake. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
The good news: Georgia is bowl-eligible. The not-so-good news: Shreveport still has a bowl. And, according to Matt Hayes of Sporting News Today, the Independence Bowl is where the Bulldogs are bound. (To face Iowa State, per Hayes.)
The better news: Four other bowl projectors see Georgia headed elsewhere. Stewart Mandel of SI.com has Georgia in the Music City Bowl against Boston College. Bruce Feldman of ESPN.com likewise tickets UGA for Nashville, but to oppose Florida State. Feldman’s colleague Mark Schlabach (who used to be my colleague) has Georgia coming to Atlanta for a Chick-fil-A date against Clemson. And CBSsports.com shows Georgia paired with East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.
What this all means: Nobody knows. We’re 19 days from Bowl Selection Sunday, and the projected field for Georgia hasn’t been narrowed much at all. If you’re counting, the five projections show four different destinations with dates ranging from Dec. 27, 2009, (Music City) to Jan. 2, 2010 (Liberty).
As for Tech: Not much mystery there. Every projection save one puts the Jackets in the Orange Bowl against TCU. The exception is Hayes in Sporting News Today. He has Clemson in the Orange and Tech in the Gator against Notre Dame. There was a time when playing (and beating) Notre Dame in Jacksonville was a big deal for Tech and George O’Leary, but this year such a date would be a colossal bringdown.
The good news: Won’t happen. Tech will win the ACC. Says me.

Good post. I didn’t realize that the SEC was going to have so many teams playing in bowl games this year! If we can get Mississippi St to run the table (vs. ARK and Ole Miss), then we would have 11 of 12 teams from the SEC in bowl games. Who’d u thunk it?. After reading all of these blogs, one would think that the SEC is down this year but in reality stronger than ever. ACC will probably have 7 or 8 (if Duke can win one more). Not bad for a non-football conference.

Still some football to play before we make reservations. Tech you do get reservations for the ACCC. At least one Georgia team is playing for a championship. Life is too short to hate the Jackets, and getting shorter daily.

JacketFan, where does this usually win by 10 come from? To qualify as usual, it has to happen at least once. I believe last year was 3. Also, the series is 59-37-5. So I guess I would make up stuff too. Come on dawgs, play well against kentucky and give Tech a great game.
Here’s to the fact that 99% of stats are made up.

It’s funny how the UGA fan base really believes there team has turned some corner after beating Auburn AT HOME. Newsfllash. Auburn is nOT a good football team. Another funny thing is that they are so sure they are going to beat UK. Funny thing about that is that UK went *INTO Auburn and won while also holding them to only 14 points. Funny, funny Dawgs.

Of all you dawg fans and your stupid excuses. Start talking REASONS. The REASON you are in a bad season is because your coaching staff does not know how to develope talent. The REASON you have lost games is because other coaches know how to develope their talent. The REASON you were picked No. 1 in the country in 2008 was because you had the talent at that time. The REASON you got blown out by Fla. Ala.,and beat by a lesser talented Ga. Tech. team was because you team WAS NOT PREPARIED. And in the Tech game YOU WERE OUT COACHED..

A UGA/Clemson bowl would be an exciting one( I think Clemson would win) but I don’t see the Dawgs going to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. As for the Dawg fan who said “Look at our stadium, fanbase, recruiting classes.” Okay well what about them? They don’t win you football games as this year should be evidence for you. Next year probably won’t be any better for you as you’ll either be playing Logan Gray or starting a true freshman.

Curious that the Dawgs still garner so much space on ajc.com. They are, by even the most biased of observers, nothing more than a mediocrity this year. Underachievers or just plain incompetent, either way, they’re what, 6-4?
While Georgia Tech is 9-1 and prepping for the ACC Championship game. Those poor guys can barely get a mention by comparison.
Come on guys. Jeezus H! Show SOME objectivity here.

“Man I hate people who don’t work for what they got. I hate people who think that my life is easy step in my shoes and watch how fast u brake” – Mike Edwards, former UT running back
On this si.com blog, Andy Staples manages to take shots at Meyer, Kiffin, The SEC’s “lack of discipline,” FSU and drags Cincinnati into the the discussion. Also, AK-47 vs. air gun.

SEC Bowl Tie-Ins
The Southeastern Conference has agreements to send nine of its member institutions to postseason bowl games following the 2008 season. The winner of the SEC Championship Game will automatically participate in the Bowl Championship Series comprised of the Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta Bowls.
The Capital One (2nd), will then make its pick following the BCS selections. The bowl must select the team with the next best overall record or a team within one win of the team with the next best overall record.
The Outback, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowls will work with the conference office to determine picks 3-5. The Cotton Bowl has the first preference of teams from the Western Division and the Outback Bowl has first preference of teams from the Eastern Division. The Cotton or Outback Bowl can select teams outside of its divisional preference, but must not select them before the opposite bowl selects from its divisional preference. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has the selection of preference following the Cotton and Outback Bowls.
In selections 6-7, the AutoZone Liberty and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowls will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office. The Bowls will rank available qualified teams in order of preference. If there are no similarities in the order of selection, the bowls will be granted its selection. If the bowls rank the same teams in preference, the team involved in the process would get its preference of which bowl to participate.
The Petro Sun Independence Bowl will receive the eighth selection and the Papajohns.com Bowl will have the ninth selection of available SEC teams.

What is funny is that tech fans assume they will destroy a team they beat on average 2 times a decade, last year they won by three, this from a team that struggles in the ACC, Vandy and Wake both gave tech a game with much less talent than UGA. This game reminds me of 2001 when everyone thought the sky was fallling and UGA spanked Godfrey and the insects.
The ACC ’s record in BCS games reflects the truth… a middle of the road SEC team ( UGA this year) is capable of upsetting one of the top ACC chumps… err…teams.
