Bradley’s Buzz: UGA’s going to a bowl, but which one?

Gerogia's last trip to the Chick-fil-A was yummy. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

The last trip to the Chick-fil-A was yummy. Like a peach milkshake. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

The good news: Georgia is bowl-eligible. The not-so-good news: Shreveport still has a bowl. And, according to Matt Hayes of Sporting News Today, the Independence Bowl is where the Bulldogs are bound. (To face Iowa State, per Hayes.)

The better news: Four other bowl projectors see Georgia headed elsewhere. Stewart Mandel of SI.com has Georgia in the Music City Bowl against Boston College. Bruce Feldman of ESPN.com likewise tickets UGA for Nashville, but to oppose Florida State. Feldman’s colleague Mark Schlabach (who used to be my colleague) has Georgia coming to Atlanta for a Chick-fil-A date against Clemson. And CBSsports.com shows Georgia paired with East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.

What this all means: Nobody knows. We’re 19 days from Bowl Selection Sunday, and the projected field for Georgia hasn’t been narrowed much at all. If you’re counting, the five projections show four different destinations with dates ranging from Dec. 27, 2009, (Music City) to Jan. 2, 2010 (Liberty).

As for Tech: Not much mystery there. Every projection save one puts the Jackets in the Orange Bowl against TCU. The exception is Hayes in Sporting News Today. He has Clemson in the Orange and Tech in the Gator against Notre Dame. There was a time when playing (and beating) Notre Dame in Jacksonville was a big deal for Tech and George O’Leary, but this year such a date would be a colossal bringdown.

The good news: Won’t happen. Tech will win the ACC. Says me.

willie martinez an AJC — you guys are hilarious. Where do you find such funny material? Seriously I can’t stop laughing. It’s so funny to make fun of people who drink alcohol, isn’t it? After all, being an anti-social, tea-totaling dork is so much cooler. And using the phrase “NOT” after saying something completely obvious is 5 star material too. Pure hilarity. Really.

No matter who wins the game, you fools will always be the biggest geek losers in all of college football. Hands down.

Dawgs and Tigers would be great!! However, the Tigers are heading to the Orange Bowl. Miami wouldn’t be a bad matchup for the dawg and their fans.

Sorry, but as a even a UGA Alumnus, for GT to go to the Gator Bowl, if they don’t win the acccg, to have to play ND is a slap in GT’s face. They deserve better than that opponent. They deserve someone in the top 15(again, only IF they lose)

My Dawgs better stop thinking beyond and worry about UK. This is a set up game. Get the Auburn game out of the mind. This game will be a tough one after the emotional win against Auburn

Kentucky’s QB is out, playing a freshman, Dawgs win by 3 scores and since the Dawgs OWN TECH, they finish 8 and 4 in a rebuilding year and go to the chick fil a bowl. We win 10 every year and Tech does it once in over a decade and thinks they have a #1 program. Now you know what its like to be the DAWGS!! But just remember one thing WE OWN YOU NERDS AND ALWAYS WILL!!! HAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Suck it Simons!!

I hope we pound the Bugs into paste..however congrats on winning your division and I hope the bowl game against TCU..I agree if you have to play ND its a slap in the face…I simply want to beat the Bugs but they have played too well this year to warrant that type if disrespect.. Go Dogs bet the Cats..this week we can worry about the Buggish foes next week!

The Irish would never hire another Tech coach after the last liar got fired. Plus they could not run the high school option and actually win games in get to recruits. No top receiver or QB would want to run that offense.

Keep concentrating on these things:
“In a traditional rivalry, you throw the records out the window.”
“A football takes some funny bounces.”
“The team that won’t be licked, CAN’T be licked.”
“Tech ‘is just another game.’”
“We may outnumber Tech fans in their own stadium.”
“The Bulldogs are a better team than people think they are.”
“We always get more fired up for Tech than they get for us.”
“Georgia’s colors are more stylish than Tech’s colors.”
“Tech may relax too much on this ‘off’ week, and we’ll beat ‘em.”
“We will shock Tech with different uniforms.”
“We are real men, and Tech players are NERDS.”

Congrats to GT for winning their side of the conference. Great year for you guys. I only hope my beloved Bulldawgs can stay on the field with you. Man, I can honestly say that I’ve never made that statement before. Does anyone remember the last time that Tech was favored over UGA by this much?. Could it have been during the Joe Hamilton years or possibly the Sean Jones years?. They’ve (Tech) certainly has earned the right this year to be favored by 12+ points. Our defense is porous and our offense-probably without AJ Green – is pretty vanilla. Even with AJ, we’re still BIG underdogs. Oh well, there’s always next year- I think.

Regardless of what UGA wil or won’t do against Tech, I would like to see UGA play Clemson in the Peach Bowl. I think that would be a good barometer on how UGA will look next year. I would rather play a clemson than an E. Car team in a lower bowl.

As for Tech and UGA, My mind is saying a usual close hard fought game with Tech winning by dominating the T.O.P and controling our DL. What that says is that the UGA LBs and Safeties need to wrap up an tackle in the open field. UGA will score points on Tech if they avoid the myriad of illegal procedure penalties that seem to plague Boling and the OL. I am looking Tech 38/UGA 34, but with this rivalry, anything can happen.

Slim Pickens-

If the Heisman is based on the person that means the most to his team, then NESBIT should win. The man’s a beast! Unfortunately, he’s not getting the pub that Tebow, McCoy, or any half-decent player from Notre Dame gets. I think SPILLER is probably the most exciting player in college football but Tebow or Ingram from Alabama will win it. Probably depends on which of those two teams wins out. I’d vote for NESBIT over all of them at this point.

Mark – What chance for the Outback? A logn shot, I know, but if UGA beats Kentucky then it will wrap up second in the east, which is who usually goes to Tampa from the SEC. Also, IF and I say IF somehow UGA ends up beating Tech thats a quality win to fish at 8-4. Not a spectacular season, but after JAX, I think most of us believed it could be a lot worse….

Of course that’s what you think- your dislike of UGA has been apparent all year- always has and always will. I just hope we can stuff Tech down your throat if we beat them in a couple of weeks. Tech in the Orange Bowl with a sweet loss to the Dawgs. So fitting for two (you and Tech) that are sewage- plain and simple.

UGAX, I second that. As good as Dwyer is, Nesbit is the MVP of the Tech team. Nesbit will be more deadlier next year. As Tech is throwing the ball more, Nesbit is getting even more comfrotable. Also, Looks like Tech has found a secondary WR to take heat off Bay Bay? The UGA/ Tech rivalry is set up to be a good one for the next few years.

I hate to admit it, but the Bugs will have about 400+ yards against our horrible D. So with a loss at Tech and a sqeaker over UK, the Dawgs will wind up in the Music City Bowl. That sucks, but at least Willie might be canned after the Tech game. Come to think of it, if Tech wins out – or loses just one more, their coach is off to ND. That might be worth it in the long run. Go Dawgs.
