Bradley’s Buzz: UGA’s going to a bowl, but which one?

The good news: Georgia is bowl-eligible. The not-so-good news: Shreveport still has a bowl. And, according to Matt Hayes of Sporting News Today, the Independence Bowl is where the Bulldogs are bound. (To face Iowa State, per Hayes.)

The better news: Four other bowl projectors see Georgia headed elsewhere. Stewart Mandel of SI.com has Georgia in the Music City Bowl against Boston College. Bruce Feldman of ESPN.com likewise tickets UGA for Nashville, but to oppose Florida State. Feldman’s colleague Mark Schlabach (who used to be my colleague) has Georgia coming to Atlanta for a Chick-fil-A date against Clemson. And CBSsports.com shows Georgia paired with East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.

What this all means: Nobody knows. We’re 19 days from Bowl Selection Sunday, and the projected field for Georgia hasn’t been narrowed much at all. If you’re counting, the five projections show four different destinations with dates ranging from Dec. 27, 2009, (Music City) to Jan. 2, 2010 (Liberty).

As for Tech: Not much mystery there. Every projection save one puts the Jackets in the Orange Bowl against TCU. The exception is Hayes in Sporting News Today. He has Clemson in the Orange and Tech in the Gator against Notre Dame. There was a time when playing (and beating) Notre Dame in Jacksonville was a big deal for Tech and George O’Leary, but this year such a date would be a colossal bringdown.

The good news: Won’t happen. Tech will win the ACC. Says me.

I think how the Dawgs play vs. Kentucky will telling of how they will play the rest of the season.I want to see how this team will respond after this victory against Auburn. Is this the kind of win that will salvage the season like it did in 2006? Or is it just a blimp on the radar?

If the Dawgs go out there vs. Kentucky, have 15 penalties and only win by a field goal, then they’ll get blown out by Tech to finish 7-5. But if they handle Kentucky handily( minus AJ Green), they could very well give Tech a tough out and possibly pull an upset. I think that’s what bowl committee’s look at for match ups; they love seeing a team that’s on a hot streak towards the end of the season. If UGA finishes 8-4 or 7-5 but plays well vs. Tech, I could see the Chick-fil-A bowl giving them an invitation.

The Dawgs have a couple of tough tests the next few weeks. Take care of business on the field, and they’ll get a decent bowl bid. Half-ass around and finish 6-6? Well beggars can’t be choosers.

Chevy Nova Jacket: I never said CPJ (woever that is) was going to Notre Dame. I could careless waht goes on with the GT program. The only football program in GA that matters is in Athens. Just look at our stadium, our fan base, or recruiting classes. Plus, we play in the SEC.

Mark,
You’re a right smart guy despite what some might say on these blogs (that might be a KY expression no?). You predicted an 8-4 finish and were spot on until the UT game and they could still finish 8-4 but not likely.
What would you say the number one reason this program seems to be heading ‘in decline’ as you wrote a few months back? It’s either talent or coaching right? Either they’re picking the 5 star kids who aren’t playmakers or not coaching them.

DAN, it’s never an upset when the Dawgs beat GT. If GT is ranked ahead of the Dawgs it’s only cuz the refs don’t want us to be ranked higher, which means GT is only over rated. It’s only an upset if they beat us.

You are so right DawgNation! Our awesome recruiting classes, with me coaching them up, I will guarantee 6 wins a season next year as well. Coach Richt has guaranteed me another year after we defeated mighty Auburn last week. I will hold Tech to under 50 and we will hug afterwards.

Should be a good game between GT and Clemson in ACC championship. Both teams are playing a lot better then the first time they played in Atlanta. Not sure who is going to win that. I don’t care where Georgia plays as long as it is an interesting opponent. Clemson, FSU, Miami from ACC or Penn St, Iowa from big 10….

Tooooo Early to know who goes wear yet. TOOOO many games to be played. That being said Daddi can we geta Weed eatr? The famous Poulan Weed Eater Bowl in Shreveport’s TAG LINE from the 80’s. Give Tech hell about the old tie-in to the Blue Turf Bowl but the Weed Eater Bowl is still a tagline too. I know the Dawgs need a lawn service tool after they GRADUATE ahaha I mean use up their 4 yrs of eligibility. Can a Dawg Ski? The Blue Tuff allows the fans to go SKI around the game.

Take care of business against Kentucky!! Georgia Tech appears to be the favorite but everyone knows crazy things can happen in this game no matter the rankings. I’d really like to see something similar to ‘97 when UGA had there rally win with less than a minute left!! Or maybe a Dwyer fumble makeup call for Jasper Sank’s botched call…

If TCU is not in the Fiesta or the Sugar then it is time to shut that puppy down (the BCS). I said it before they waxed Clemson in Death Valley, they are primed. By the way, I like GA Tech, but a game with TCU and they have 5 weeks to prepare, with that D, it is not a good match up… Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, or Boise are the teams which Tech gives nightmares to in terms of match ups.

Right now, Bowl games are the least of either of these two teams worries. UGA should be focusing on Kentucky, and GA Tech should be resting up before they start prepping up for their game against the Bulldogs.

Have no doubt about it; Paul Johnson has his Georgia Tech team focused on Georgia, and Georgia alone – no ACC Championship; no Bowl game that follows the ACC Championship.

If Mark Richt and his Georgia Bulldogs choose to otherwise, that will be perfectly fine to Coach Johnson.

Uh oh…a night game…just great. Plenty of time for the “scum” that make up a small but undeniable part of the UGA fanbase to get liqoured up and abusive.

Last year I almost had to draw down on a group of drunk young “Dawgs” who threatened my 75 year old parents and vandalized their Mercedes while sitting in traffic after the game, apparently because they had a GT bumpersticker on their automobile. Athens Police would not arrest them. We were able to get names and the kids parents paid for the repairs to the vehicle. A night in jail might have taught them a little more in the long run.

I respect most Georgia fans, but you guys have some awfully obnoxious ones among you. I suspect the Atlanta Police Department will put putting in lots of overtime November 28th.

Seriously, Dawgnation, why do you tolerate the obnoxious few among you?

Reality is tough to face Superdoggie….get used to it. Rivalries go in cycles and the next few years should go Tech’s way. Its not the end of the world to not be the top program in the state every year. The younger UGA fans who got on the bandwagon the past few years of Richt have been spoiled into thinking that. Any older fans remember losing to Tech at least every other year, with some long streaks both ways mixed in.
