The last trip to the Chick-fil-A was yummy. Like a peach milkshake. (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)
The good news: Georgia is bowl-eligible. The not-so-good news: Shreveport still has a bowl. And, according to Matt Hayes of Sporting News Today, the Independence Bowl is where the Bulldogs are bound. (To face Iowa State, per Hayes.)
The better news: Four other bowl projectors see Georgia headed elsewhere. Stewart Mandel of SI.com has Georgia in the Music City Bowl against Boston College. Bruce Feldman of ESPN.com likewise tickets UGA for Nashville, but to oppose Florida State. Feldman’s colleague Mark Schlabach (who used to be my colleague) has Georgia coming to Atlanta for a Chick-fil-A date against Clemson. And CBSsports.com shows Georgia paired with East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.
What this all means: Nobody knows. We’re 19 days from Bowl Selection Sunday, and the projected field for Georgia hasn’t been narrowed much at all. If you’re counting, the five projections show four different destinations with dates ranging from Dec. 27, 2009, (Music City) to Jan. 2, 2010 (Liberty).
As for Tech: Not much mystery there. Every projection save one puts the Jackets in the Orange Bowl against TCU. The exception is Hayes in Sporting News Today. He has Clemson in the Orange and Tech in the Gator against Notre Dame. There was a time when playing (and beating) Notre Dame in Jacksonville was a big deal for Tech and George O’Leary, but this year such a date would be a colossal bringdown.
The good news: Won’t happen. Tech will win the ACC. Says me.

I love how Tech fans are calling out all the bowls that they normally go to (when I say “they,” I’m referring to the team only because everyone knows Tech fans don’t travel).

It is going to be a good bowl. UGA is going to win out. It has taken them all year but the youth movement is starting to flow at UGA. The best thing about this youth movement is that it is being led by born and bred Georgia boys that have always dreamed of playing for UGA and mark my words when they get to that Tech game they are going to be hungry….that one game can right all of the wrongs this year (somebody’s still gonna get canned though). Was it 2006 that Tech was on their way to the ACC championship game and UGA had gotten beat by UK and Vandy in the same year but beat Tech? I would also bet that Tech was favored in 2001 (Richt’s first year) but UGA won. I wouldn’t put it past Richt to have something special up his sleave for Tech this year. If I were a Tech fan I would be very nervous….Tech should beat UGA badly, everybody has been downing UGA all year saying that it’s one of the worst teams in a long time…well guess what…if UGA jumps up and beats big bad Tech it will do more damage to Tech than if UGA gets run out of the stadium! Smells like a statement game!

Tech is used to Boise, Emerald Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, Silicon Valley Bowl. Dawgs have higher aspirations but tough year when you lose 95% of your offense to the NFL. Just beat the maggots and would like to see Dawgs/Clemson matchup in Eat-Mor-Chikn Bowl.

Jacket Fan 12, Tech will be down to UGA by 7 at the half and then take the game by 10 in the second half like they usually do
What kind of bong are you smoking, USUALLY DO. In what decade and century does this usually come from. I hope your team fells like that too
My Pick is that UGA goes to the Cotton Bowl.

Usually do, as in controlling the second half. We would expect a dog fan to know all about that. Remember 26 unanswered last year

It’s been a hard season for the Dawgs. They will be back. I don’t have that much faith in Joe Cox. Hell, I’m a tech fan and I defend Joe for the first 6 games. Nevertheless, it would be great to see Georgia VS Clemson in a bowl game. That sounds like a good ticket!

And i do mean OLD Dawg….IF it were not for the extra weeks of practice…equivalent of another spring practice…I personally wish that Damon Evans and the powers that be would refuse ANY bowl invitation UNLESS we beat tek, which I dont see happening!
There are way too many bowls….hell have of all D1 teams go to bowls….I can remember when a bowl trip was truly a REWARD for a good season….not anymore!!!
I believe there should be no more than 15 bowls…and a m inimum amount of at least 2 million pay out per team! Half the schools that go to bowls lose money!
15 bowls would mean 25% of all teams still go to a bowl…minimum of 7 preferably 8 wins to qualify!
Look at tek….recently they went to the blue carpet bowl and sold 241 tickets! 241 tickets for christ’s sake!

My guess is the line will come out with GT favored by 9 1/2 to 12 1/2 but will be bid down to 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 by kickoff.
Both defenses are suspect. Tech has given up a lot of big plays on special teams.
The Dogs are beginning to show that they can run the football, which is a characteristic Georgia has been known for traditionally. The doubtful status of the Green youngster might be worth a point or two towards the Bees.
Both teams come into this one with more than the usual desire, if for different reasons. I would anticipate a hard-fought game. The Tech fans are excited, and Bobby Dodd will be rocking. Fast start crucial for the Dawgs in order to quiet the crowd. Playing this Tech team from behind is not the way Dog fans would like this game to develop.
Turnovers, as is usually the case in closely-contested games, may well be determinative.
Tech doesn’t put the ball on the ground more than once, and wins 42-31.

Why is it even a possibility that UGA could go to the CFA Bowl? Don’t they get the #3 pick of the SEC? I seriously doubt that UGA is the third best pick in the SEC.

Geez, Dawg Nation, you better stop smoking that stuff or it’s gonna kill ya.
The pups should be in a BCS bowl regardless of your record? Recruiting class guestimations should determine the post-season schedule? I doubt many fans of either Tech or Georgia would honestly agree with you. Why bother to play the season at all? Just let Rivals determine the end-of-season rankings of all the teams based on their recruiting evaluations at the beginning of the year. I bet most fans would like to actually see the games played on the field.
Oh, and by the way, Sagarin says the Yellow Jackets strength of schedule is number 14, while the Bulldogs have played the 15th toughest schedule in the nation to date.

I’m no expert on the matter but aren’t there bowl tie-ins? If UGA beats UK, they are #2 in the SEC East. Assuming both UF and Bama go to a BCS game, wouldn’t that put UGA in one of the bowl games? LSU or Ole Miss would then be in the Cotton with the other in the Outback or Capital 1. Or is the assumption that that bowl will pick Tenn over UGA even though UGA is higher in the standings?

…of the Tech fans saying the team was “really tired” when they played Miami and lost – their 3rd game in 13 days (Sat – game, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur – game, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur – game). Heck, the whole season you play 3 games in 15 days (Saturday – game, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat – game, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat – game). You lost that game, so STFU.
