UGA’s worst loss under Richt clearly had to be Bama’s beatdown in Athens last year. UGA spent all week getting riled up over a blackout and Bama OWNED UGA all game long. Despite the score, UGA was never in the game and it started this 14 month long downfall of the whole UGA football program!

Agree 100 percent, Mark, with one exception. Mark Richt has lost this constituent. It’s been slowly building for a while now. But Saturday was the final straw. With two weeks to prepare a game plan that might help us beat Florida, what did we do: Black helmets. I saw a quote where Richt said he thought the helmets gave the team a spark. What? We were down 7-0 after two-and-a-half minutes. The spark he saw was his career going up in flames. Stupid gimmicks don’t work. If they did, Jerry Glanville would be a Hall of Fame coach with a drawer full of Super Bowl rings.

This is the most undiscplined and unintelligent team I have ever seen. I was calling for a close game, and would have been if UGA could get out of their own DAMN way. Is Cox truly the best QB we have. Every freaking pass to AJ was high and behind. He will get AJ hurt before the season is over.

I don’t want to hear crap about bogus flags. Every flag was legit. Once again a CMR coached team shows up unprepared. UF never stopped UGA the entire first half, UGA stopped themselves time and time again. Will this season ever end. Hopefully UGA will lose the rest of the games and CMR A$$ will be kicked to the curb along with his best bud, CWM. This team is beyond pathetic. They are so pathetic that I could say CUM and Tebow felt sorry for them.

Ple4ase remember Cox was recruited by Bobo ( aka: Bozo the clown, hence forth) simply put now you why he is playing.
Richt the CEO will be in the unemployment line if he does go ahead and announce decisions of his coordinators. He must relief Bobo and Martinez of their duties immediately or basically lose his job. Now is the time with T.Tech coming in!!

Changes have to be made, but I am afraid that CMR won’t make them. The D sucked last year, and no changes. Now the D and offence suck and there is no discipline on this team.
Another football season lost. We will be lucky to win 2 of our remaining games. There is no way we will beat GT.
I have been a Dawg for 40+ years and this is about as bad as it’s evern been. How did the program go from preseason #1 last year to this???

Several key things I see each year out of this team.

I agree with all of the talk of these silly motivational tactics. If we’ve got to resort to what we wear and special antics to motivate us (which isn’t working), then we’re in real trouble. I said that when the endzone celebration happened two years ago, with the black jerseys against ALA and yesterday with the helmets.

I don’t ever see this team playing with passion and confidence. There seems to be something missing. Hasn’t been there since Dooley. You always knew his teams would come to play for 60 minutes.

And the lack of discipline on this team is another thing. It seems if we make a big play, we act like we haven’t done that/been there before. Aren’t these plays they’re supposed to make these plays (although few and far between) – sack, hit, tackle, run, catch, etc…??? And the penalties. My gosh. That’s a team in need of some coaching and leadership.

Everyone, Mark included, needs to forget the uniform thingy. I thought they were fine, and if the team wanted something a little different for Halloween, or for any other reason, there’s nothing wrong with that. They were not the reason for the loss, or the way the team played. If Mark B. or all of you morons want to draw attention to that, you’re missing what the problems really are.

It’s not that we lost…because Florida is #1 in the country.

It’s that we completely started the game playing as though we didn’t scheme for Florida at all. As though our coaches didn’t even watch the film of the Miss State or Arky games against UF. Awful.

We, once again, were completely unprepared and just got destroyed. Something’s rotten in Denmark.

Georgia had some bright spots, I thought the running game did well, that running back looks like a future star.
I am a Hurricane fan I’ve seen the program go from the most dominant program in the country, to losing to division II teams, get back to winning national championships, and now to looking good some weekends and terrible the next. College football is frustrating.

Mark, what the dawgs need now is STABILITY in the coaching staff!

Coach Ricked neeeeeeeds to sign Coach Bozo and Coach “Shaken, not stirred” Martini to LONG TERM contracts! Only then can the dawgs insure the STABILITY needed to sign the 4 & 5 star recruits they will need to improve in future years.

And go easy on the fans leaving early. These are the non-graduate fans, and they have just finally seen the “light” and are looking to leave the Dark Side. These are the “sidewalk” fans, and many of them enjoy college football, and will likely become GT fans in the very near future.

I implore ALL dawg fans: Be PATIENT with the coaching staff! Better days are ahead … just check out the latest recruiting rankings!!!!

thoughts:
I can’t think of a georgia team looking more inept than the 2009 version in my 38 years since i started at georgia.
Cox can’t see a secondary receiver. He also is off on at least 80% of his throws to primary receivers.
Why can’t the player that performs the best and gives them the best chance to win play vs. the guy who has “earned it” cause he has been there for 5 years and everybody likes him?
The defense not only looks clueless, it even appears that the calls, when executed, leave them wide open for a kill shot.
How many times are long passes/td’s completed and there is not a defender for 10 yards?
Do they practice stupid penalties? It almost looks like it must be a standard drill at practice.
Biggest offenvie threat– AJ Green, Butler, Walsh. What’s wrong with this picture?
Complacency, immaturity, stupid, pick your term. Something is bad wrong in the program.
Top ten recruiting classes every year would suggest that the talent is there to be competitive and put then in the top 25. Why are they not developing? Peforming?
Other programs with similar recruiting success reload. Some rebuild. The dogs collapse. Why?
What changed in the last few years?
A dramatic shift in approach, attitude, and performance must occur or else they will own the first losing season in a long time and ya’ll can throw away your shades cause the future will not be to bright.

I said Ga would go 7-5, maybe 6-6 at the beginning of the season and was mocked by several on these ga blogs. My reasoning was Cox was not a good qb. The o line excuse was a joke. Losing MS and KM would devistate ga because they were about 80% of the total offense. And all I heard was we’ve won 10+ games blah blah. We have a great O line. We will run the ball. The def will be better. Some blasted GT and still do as high school blah blah and gt would lose 5 games maybe 6. While I don’t like seeing a state school have such a bad year, I do laugh at the jerkoffs on here who talked so much trash without any supporting facts to back it up. Enjoy your 6-6 season. Maybe next year you too will use some rational thinking and not go on emotions.

Fla can point to the heavens, Fla can Spike the ball. Fla can do no wrong. Ga can do no right.

I have no idea why the fans left, we were in the game for a long time Terrible play calling, terrible excecution by the QB. In the past I said, there is a reason Stafford was the starter, and there is a reason that Cox is the starter Logan Gray is not the man, yet There is also a reason Willie must go. 3rd and extra long conversions, and blown coverage every game. There is a reason that Bobo must go, 3rd and long dive plays. Inept game plans. There is a reason that Fabris or Janacek must go, personal fouls on specail teams play.

Go back to normal uniforms, no more gimmicks, we are UGA we don’t need those gimicks, and if we have a bad year so be it. Win what we can the rest of the year, give it our all and get ready for the upcoming season. Looks like we need a QB and a RB for sure on the player side, and some assistant coaches. We went from the best Def coordinator Van Gorder to Willie, and the best offensive coordinator Richt, to Bobo. There are too many quality coaches out there, bring them in.

To all these so called DAWG fans: Nothing is going to happen in the coaching staff until after signing day. This is the smart move. It does no good and does some harm for our recruiting to keep bashing the coaching staff week after week. If you are a true fan then you could be telling recruits that they could play next season and they are needed instead of committing on about the staff.

Forget about football. Coach Richie Rich needs to hire a driving coach. Right turn, left turn, parallel parking are graduate courses at UGay. Each football player should be started on a tricycle. Everyone is hurting in this economy and UGay needless spends money on black helmets. Haberdashery is not the answer Richie. Read the riot act to them. Florida won that game with a half-arsed effort. By 3rd quarter half the stadium was empty and the fans on both sides were bored to death. It was like a JV vs Varsity scrimmage. I don’t see the donors sending money to Athens for such mediocrity, the penalties that were supposed to stop this season, and now this silly ongoing uniform fashion show. It seems like the Dawgs are turning into the Braves.

Restore discipline, recruiting, and refresh coaching staff, or there will be no more CMR after 2010.

I hope they go to the Rose Bowl for the national BCS game. You don’t have to run down another place to make your accomplishments look good. They stand on thier own! This team is just plain BAD, embarrasingly so. The players are bad and the coaches are even worse. Mark Richt still thinks that uniform changes are the way to fire up an undisciplined team, all evidence to the contrary. Coaches are unaccountable, the same terrible players make the same disastrous mistakes, with no consequences. We have a defensive back that hasn’t covered anyone in 4 years who can’t screw up enough to get benched. We have a team that folds like a cheap suit anytime it plays a conference opponent of like talent. We have a head coach who seems to be in a daze on the sideline most of the time. Worst of all, we have a coaching staff that cannot make its team play disciplined football. When players can incur 15-yard penalties game after game without apparent consequence, then the coaches have lost the program.

The solution? Wholesale staff changes this offseason. If that doesn’t work, head coach change after 2010. This performance is disgraceful and should be unacceptable.

UGA offense on 3rd and long still running a pump fake to the RB when the defense is playing the pass, that does not work. How about the split Tee formation to form better pass protection or pass to the RB drifting to the outside.

Anyway this team’s talent is vastly overrate, the only reason UGA was ranked is because you are in the SEC. How in the world can you rate High School seniors state this is a top ten class?

Even if UGA goes 6-6 and is bowl elibible, I would hope we would turn down any invitation we might receive. A bowl loss would be one more embarrasment to an embarrassing season. There are good defensive and offensive coordinators in division 1 who would jump at the opportunity to coach in the SEC. Look at TCU, Boise State …

If Georgia really took this game seriously, they would have done everything possible to get it played in the state every other year. Apparently, now the game is just the excuse to get hammered in St. Simons all week, the drilled in Jacksonville on Saturday.

MB – What was your take on replacing Cox with Gray on that last awful series from the end zone? I mean the Gray kid was not warmed up, placed in an un-surmountable position and then scorned by the Dog Nation for an errant interception. Did Bozo, I mean BoBo make that challenging decision?

And you were right about the “un-sportsman like conduct” penalties, for that matter all of the penalties. The Dogs were completely IN THE GAME and moving the ball at the heart of the #1 defense in the country then out of no where or collective brain cramping they kept making stupid motion penalties….then finally broke down and started ripping helmets off. I did not see any sideline shot of any coach chewing any player out about anything all game long. Did that happen?

I wonder now who on the team this week is caught for breaking the law……

It is, without question, time to fire CMR. Urban Meyer and Nick Saban would both be winning with the talent that the dawgs have. I despise CMR so much that I actually hope that the dawgs have a losing record this year, lose to tech, and don’t make a bowl just so CMR can get fired. The humiliation is the price that the UGA athletic department needs to be willing to pay in order to get a real coach at the helm.

THEN AND NOW – good stuff. But enough with the “thug” crap.

By and large, all SEC teams recruit the same pool of kids. Are some a little rough around the edges? Hell yes. But remember, they’re kids, and a coach (i.e. authority figure) ESPECIALLY one who’s as moral as CMR, should be a mentor to them and impart good values and discipline beyond football.

CMR’s no different than any other big-time D1 coach. He’s in a pressure-filled job where on-field results get you your next contract. He doesn’t have time to help his charges grow into solid young men. And lets face it, we fans could give a crap what happens to these kids once their eligibility is used up.

Does UGA have some bad apples? Beats me. Expired drivers licenses and fake ID’s don’t seem like Ten Most Wanted offenses. Hell, if a FAKE ID makes you Public Enemy #1, you might as well assign the “thug” label 99% of the student bodies this side of Brigham Young.

Georgia is bad because their coaching is ineffective. If the kids are undisciplined, who’s fault is that? When your kid or my kid fouls up, who’s fault is it? You and I know the answer to both questions.

CMR needs to move on. Good luck to him. He’s got nothing left to offer Georgia. Worse, he’s hurting the program.

STOP PUTTING THIS ENTIRELY ON THE COACHES

At the end of 2007…this team was #2 in the nation, and if not for a few lucky plays for UT against UK and Vandy, I really believe the Dawgs would have won the SEC Championship and won it all that year. How can they have fallen from that high point to this low point so fast???

The coaching staff is still the same…the players must be held accountable…the talent is just not there. When you don’t generate a rush with your DL…bad things happen folks!!! When you don’t have a running game and when you start a guy like Joe Cox at QB who can’t check down to open receivers…you are going to be inconsistent on offense, are going to have a lot of turnovers, and that puts a LOT of pressure on the defense.

Sure, the coaching could be and should be better, but they have proven in the recent past, that with the right talent, they can coach a team to be in the thick of the SEC/National title races.

The haltime interview where CMR was saying that we were beating ourselves with penalties was hilarious. CMR-you started it and you can stop it. The next time a 15 yarder comes, just send the player and whatever color helmet he is wearing to the locker room.Please add up all of the penalty yards in your career, and you will have enough yardage to win 10 games.

2008’s team was slaughtered with injuries…19 starting players lost to season ending injuries over the course of that year. HOWEVER, we’ve got most of them back, were supposed to have the dominant line in the SEC on both sides of the ball…Dawgs have had far fewer injuries than last year—AND ARE PLAYING VASTLY WORSE.
If CMR wants to be a minister, have a talk with God and go do that. If he wants to be a football coach in this league, he’s going to have to focus on that instead. It’s just the math. And sorry, Georgia’s “in-da-jails-in-da-clubs-playin’-dirty-gangsta-style-yo” atheletes indicate there’s no Christian influence in the program. Where’s Richt’s ethics reflecting on this team? Absent! Dishonorable.
I figure Richt’s overall record buys him just one more season in Athens. If he doesn’t get his “poop in a group”, it’s over for him. So his first question should be, will he let these hip-hop kids remain in control of the program, or will he stop being their homey and shove some discipline down their throats like a real coach would? The second, is he going to let his mis-hitched star be dragged down by timid, cowardly assistant coaching…simply out of a sense of loyalty to them season after season?
This is a program in crisis, and CMR has to first look in the mirror and have an honest appraisal of his priorities.

1) Tired of the gimmicks ( Black helmets? Really?)

2) Loved the comment about CWM calling the defensze blind since Harvin is gone. That was spot on.

3) The staff is out matched on a weekly basis. Top to bottom this staff seems to have lost the team.

4) Verne on air mentioned how in August CMR was going to address the penalty issue. Verne quickly pointed out how he has not.

5) Were is the talent? Outside of AJ Green maybe a D-Tackle (which I can’t understand why) is there a 1st round pick on the team?

6) The Pro Style offense is completely outdated. Look at what Brian Kelley with the Bearcats is doing with his backup QB. Sometimes its more about the system than the players. UGA. Seems to lack in voth departments.

7) The fan base is tire of the apparent thug attitude this team seems to carry. To many personal fouls, to much chirpping going on. What did the dawg players have anything to run there mouths about? Embarrassing.

Cox was put in a situation during the game were he felt compelled to make the “big play”. The young man just doesn’t have the talent. The tipped pass was a fluke. Unfortunately over the past 20 years these flukes always happen against UF and they ALWAYS capitalize on them.

9) No doubht Florida was the better team, but UGA could not make a tackle and allowed Tebow to dictate the tempo of the game. Tebow and Meyer are to damn good to let that happen.

10) Defense seems to lineup in the same formations and run same coverage way to much. Almost felt like I was watching Joe Kines all over again.

Ok, sorry long post, but Mark you were right….UGA is a second rate program right now.

I have posted many times about the self evident disaster that is Willie Martinez and I haven’t been that kind to Mike “The Fade” Bobo either. Although, I think Richt is a good man, I recently have begun to think that it is time for a change there too.

But the black helmets and pants seals the deal. That was the lamest ploy given where this program is and throughly demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of same.

Also, how many times did something happen in the game that we just simply laughed out loud because we weren’t surprised that:

A) Weren’t surprised they called the play, b/c they are pretty bland offensively.

B) Got a boneheaded penalty

C) Or couldn’t make a tackle on 3rd down to get off the field.

The way the game played out was laughable. I wasn’t expecting to win, but I honestly got what I expected. Another typical underwhelming performance.

Did Martinez know that Tebow would run the ball up the middle besides everyone in America? He has been doing it for four years. Tebow up the middle. Nobody paid any attention to Tebow running the ball? During his touchdown run, there was nobody in the middle? I could bust the screen out of my television on that play. This the worst defensive preparation I have ever witnessed. I could prepare a defense better than slick Willie. Can you imagine a Nick Saban or Urban Meyer team defense playing this way. Nick Saban would fire the entire team if this happened. What did Georgia do for the past two weeks? I read an article where the second week they were going to start game planning for Florida. Hmmmm….they must have forgot to gameplan. It was 14 – 0 before I could drink my first beer. It was 3rd and 15 when Bobo decided to run the ball in the first quarter. Punted back to Florida and they scored again. Game was over!

Hey Bama fan (in Winder, no less)…Have been to MANY Bama games in the 90s where the fans left disgusted before the game was over. You’ve got to be kidding not to lump any team in that same category. It happens EVERYWHERE. The FL half of the stadium was empty in the 4th quarter of every GA loss there too. Your fans disappear when Bama isn’t in the top 10. Again dead on observations… kinda of obvious this week. The team played with no emotion… they were sleep walking through the game. I so no intensity or things to get absolutely fired up about. How did we play… all in all the D played very well and the offensive line actually showed up to play…. The problem is that we were not doing those things all year long. Simple math folks… if you don’t have a Pro QB you can’t run simple pro offense. Shame on the entire staff for not jumping up and down and saying that we need to run the ball. I could care less if we were thumped by a better team if we were committed to consistency… Having said that, outside of Cox making some miserable decisions… we played with good consistency. The running game was effective though not explosive… (again, we weren’t running a zillion revereses and gimicky plays). The defense was tough though not stout…
QB Play yesterday was horrendous… we would have been better putting Thomas, King, Ealey, and Samuel in a hybrid wishbone wildcat formation the whole game. Cox was rarely accurate and all I can say is thank you AJ Green for being a man among boys…. Cox hung that poor boy out to dry on at least 4 balls…

and you wonder why dawg fans up and left… they have seen that movie before

Excellent points Mark. Unfortunatly, this program has farther to fall under the current leadership (or lack of it!). I left the game when cox lofted that horrific ball towards the sideline that was intercepted. It was the exact same play against tennessee. He might have been a great high school qb, but alot of us were great at something in high school.

The bulldog nation has to do something to force a change. Donations to the athletic department should go way down after this lousy effort this season. Also, I wish there would be a big push by the fans to start boycotting the sponsors. otherwise, richt & his boys will just keep collecting their undeserved paychecks.

One last thing, & I have been saying it since ok state:
joe cox = joe terashinski = greg talley

Now I can say:
mark richt = jim donnan = ray goof (beat the weaklings – most of the time – but can’t compete w/ the big boys!)

PS it was nice of the team to recognize Halloween & come dressed up as football players! My 8 year old did the same thing!

You were a big fan of the 2007 “celebration”. You even went so far as to say that Richt “had turned the tide of the UGA/Fla series” with it. Now you criticize the team for celebrating on the sideline (which, ironically, didn’t draw 15 flags like the endzone thing did). I try to keep pointing out that we are one year removed from a disappointing season that had us win 10 games. Am I happy with how things are going? Hell no. Changes need to be made for sure. But this is honestly the first really bad stretch in Richt’s tenure ( 2006 doesn’t count. We were starting a true freshman at QB and finished the year strongly after a start much like this one ). I’m not ready to give up on Richt, and I’m certainly not ready to make the “has Kiffin and UT already surpassed” UGA argument. (Nor am I ready to make the same argument about Tech, which is a convo for another day). One season does not a legacy make , as “Cuz” pointed out last night. Richt should be given the benefit of the doubt that he can turn it around before the entire AJC starts a smear campaign against him. UGA under Richt has had the best run in the school’s history, national title or no national title. Just because UGA fans think we are on par with USC, Oklahoma, Texas, etc on a national scale doesn’t make it fact. Having said that, I will be very upset if CMR doesn’t make changes this offseason. I believe he will.

is it me or is richt and his staff coaching guys down?Geno atkins came on strong in 2007 but has gotten prgressively worse. Same with jeff ownes who was huge his fisrt few years. Also all these guys are wusses. They are not getting coached up nd i question the jub van halanger has done. It seems like everyone on the o-line has gotten worse as the years go on.
how can u start someone who you got in a package deal for mo mass. I think they should start recruiting bada** 3 star o-lineman, but there should never EVER be a 3 star quarterback starting at Georgia unless they earn it like Greene did.Willie Martine should have been fired after the West Virginia debacle. Richt obviously knew this season was going to be a challenge, given the situation at QB, but I do believe he’ll have to make some changes with his assistants, or risk losing his job. No doubt UGA has the horses, but the jockeys- Bobo and Martinez – can’t seem to handle the reins. Considering all the failed NFL, and qualiifed college, coaches who would jump at this job, Richt better show UGA that his loyalty is to the institution, and not his assistants.

I use to look forward to a game. Felt we had a shot every time. And we lost, we lost wished the winners well , and moved on to the next week. This team…I am not sure they could but a quality game together if they were spotted 21 points. And the coaches, the worse ever assembled at Georgia. Period.

You stay a “dawg fan” buddy. But as one of the Goobers using his computer this morning, let respectfully request an elaboration from you. You’re not seriously putting forth the proposition that UGA’s current football ills are a by-product of the greatness of Tim Tebow, are you?

If so, here’s where your immense powers of elaboration will be helpful – even to a Goober such as myself. Tebow has never strapped on a jock for Tennessee or Alabama or Georgia Tech during his illustrious career, has he? How do you explain the Dawgs total ineptitude in those games?

So you’re one of those guys who refuse to find fault where there’s nothing but fault to find? OK, fine. more power to you. But then you feel the need to resort to a sweeping condemnation all who don’t share your enlightened perspective.

Please quit avoiding my question. I keep asking you, and you keep avoiding it.

Why do you say that Richt is a good coach? How could this possibly happen to a good coach? Are you defining a “good coach” by X’s and O’s? Even then, it is dubious the Richt is a good coach. But even if we assume that his X’s and O’s are stellar, what about the other coaching aspects? I don’t see other “good coaches” (e.g., Saban and Meyer) harping on uniform colors so often. I don’t see other “good coaches” obsessing about ways to motivate their teams when playing their biggest rivals. I don’t see other “good coaches” surrounding themselves with mediocre assistants and then putting up with their obvious mediocrity. I don’t see other “good coaches” having teams that EVERY GAME play without discipline and then go on to tell us in the halftime interview and postgame interview that they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Has it ever dawned on you that Richt’s poor coaching has been covered up in the past by having natural born leaders on his team (e.g., Greene and Pollack) and having assistants who had enough fire to make up for Richt’s lack thereof (e.g., Van Gorder) and that without those, Richt has been exposed as the emperor with no clothes?

So, please tell us, what is it that makes Richt such a good coach, other than your supposed comparison to his predecessors Goff and Donnan (and to tell you the truth, I don’t remember any Donnan team underachieving as badly as UGA has done the last two years, 2000 included).

The gouging of the eyes by Spikes is much more egregious than what the Oregon player did to the Boise State player. Surely the consequences should be greater. The Oregon player was provoked and simply punched the guy. Here, the actions were obviously premeditated and intended to cause permanent damage to the kid’s eyes.

It is really stupid when teams shuck their traditional uniforms for nonsense gimmicks as UGA did with the black helmets, which look stupid. Also, Tennessee unexplainably showed up in black shirts yesterday, looking just as dumb. I blame Notre Dame for this trend, with their showing up for a big game (maybe USC) with green jerseys instead of their traditional attire. At least they were not dumb enough to change their gold helmets. UGA looks great in red or white jerseys and silver pants. That is their identity. Tech looks great in white and gold. They should forget about the Black and Blue stuff. It is ridiculous. Whoever thought Tennessee would look right in black instead of Orange should get a swift kick.

Agree with points 2 through 5 Mark. I don’t think the mass exodus you refer to in point 1 is necessarily a sign of a deteriorating program. Fans will be fans & every program/organization has more fair-weather types than they think. A lot of people are jumping off the UGA bandwagon they jumped in 2002. Several FSU fans left Doak-Campbell missing the Noles pull of the greatest 4th quarter comeback in college football history against UF in 1994? Another example…UGA vs. LSU 2003 in Baton Rogue. Leading 10-3, LSU looked like they were about to put the Dawgs away when they moved the ball deep into UGA territory late in the 4th. I saw several Dawg fans file out only to miss the LSU turnover and subsequent 90+ yd. Green to Browning screen for a td. UGA did lose, but the outcome was far from decided when the UGA fans I refer to began to leave.

Point 6 seriously bothers me b/c it is very trivial and unnecessary. Would you be one of those people praising CMR for the Black Helmets had UGA won yesterday? I guess Lane Kiffin is a genius for letting UT take the field in those ridiculous “trick or treat” jerseys. Who cares what the uniforms look like as long as they don’t deviate from the traditional colors? Personally, I get tired of always seeing UGA wear Silver Britches, the Red or White jersey, and traditional Red Helmet. I would have liked to have seen them wear the black helmets with the black jerseys in 2007. CMR was hailed as a genius for the 07 blackout in Athens. No one objected to the black jerseys in the Sugar Bowl that year. Nobody questioned the blackout the week of the Alabama game in 08, but everyone was quick to throw CMR under the bus afterwards. As if the black jerseys were a significant factor in determining any of the forementioned games. The bottom line Mark…please don’t fuel the fire against CMR and his coaching staff any further with uniform criticisms.

I LOVED watching the UGA players Jawing and shoving after every play. Even when down by 2 TD’s UGA was celebrating expected plays and doing the Gator Chomp. Too Funny!

As for Spikes, that was dirty. However, perhaps if Ealy wasn’t talking and shoving after every play it may not have happened.

As a Tech fan for a long time , I know what this type of losing that UGA is going through feels like. It’s easy to blame all the losses on the coach(es). However, I feel like the players have given up on the coaches this year. The undisciplined play with stupid penalties, missed assignments, etc. shows a lack of concentration and also a lack of discipline. In other words the coaches have lost control of the team. In a lot of ways I think it goes back to the type of student/athlete you sign. I’ve thought Georgia has recently stopped recruiting athletes with CHARACTER AND DISCIPLINE and has instead looked more at times in the 40 or yards gained. I really don’t think Richt has “his” players anymore, but has tried to coach the players that the recruiting coordinator has chosen to go after….just a thought.

The fair-weather University of Georgia t Atherns fans who are whinning like babies should be ashamed. If you were real fans of the UGA Football Team you would keep your complaints to yourself and rally around the UGA Football Team. I look at players like Rennie Curran who put a big hit on that overrated Tim Tebow and I applaud his effort. Yes UGA is really down this year, (2009), but I see positives everywhere. Georgia is stealing Florida High School players based on the commitment that have been announced, Urban Meyer will eventually move on the Notre Dame job in South bend and then UGA will take the series back from Florida. Thus I ask that UGA fans be patient. 2009 iis a loss year. Next year the overated Tim Tebow will be seating on a NFL practice squad and soon Meyer will be at will at his Dream Job.
Also Georgia every year recuits Top Ten players to the Football Team. We will eventually win the SEC down the road in a few year. Just cut your silly pathetic whinning and accept that the University of Florida is a better Football Team in 2009 and 17 of the last 20 years. Adios Amigos!!!

Richt needs to fire all of his assistants and then send all of those stockpiled 5 star recruits to us so Urb and Charley can coach ‘em up and make them true champions. I don’t see a true East rival for UF for at least a couple of years, don’t forget that Tenn will have a new QB and O Line next year and no Eric Berry. They will be better THIS year than they will next year. It will be another battle for second place next year. Florida and Bama have built championship programs that will be around awhile…

I had two little grand boys that I also wanted to take “trick or treating” and I decided that at this point…Halloween was more important. I usually stay to the “bitter” end in Jacksonville but maybe some others left for the same reasons.

First off another year of bragging rights, yesssssssssss. 41-17. Next you can say what you want about Cox the fact is he moved the ball a lot better than I thought he would. Gators probably have the best defense in all of college football, if they don’t they are in the top 3 and nobody is going to put up a big number against them. Joe got in the end zone twice,1 more than Stafford did last year against he same defense who were a year younger. Finally I don’t get the fans leaving early after they travel to Jacksonville Florida. That is not a good way to support the team. Being on the field and seeing your fans leaving can’t be a good feeling. Anyway until next year………….

Next year should be year 0 for CMR and the entire staff. He has obviously loss control of the team as it spirals out of control. CMR is a nice guy, a good Christian man, but based on his competition, Meyer, Miles, Saban and now Kiffin, he does not have what it takes to wind the national championship. If you want to be satisfied with 10 win maybe seasons, then let’s keep him around.

Or CMR gets some fire up his @$$ and gets new coordinators and gets this team disciplined. He definitely has earned himself a wait and see cushion for another year or two, but if next season isn’t significantly better…

The one shining light is that next season the east will be a little easier to deal with. UF and Tenn will be down from this season, but what about us? Who are we gonna put at QB without going through significant growing pains. UF’s Brantley has already gotten significant playing time compared to our guys. If we stick with what we’ve got we’re looking at 2 or 3 seasons before we’re strong again. How can this be with the way we recruit? It doesn’t make sense. We should be good right now. This should not be a down year or transition year. I don’t care how many young players we are playing. We’ve played a ton of young players the last 3 seasons and we’re still young. Bottom line: we should be winning more with what we’ve got. UF and BAMA don’t control what we do, WE DO, and right now we are failing at it an awful lot. The talent is here on both sides of the ball but are we gonna keep using inexperience as an excuse to underachieve?

UGA is the only SEC school with 7 straight Rivals top 10 recruiting classes. UT coach Phillip Fulmer proved in 2005 that it takes more than just great talent to win. Top talent hasn’t helped UGA win, why worry about recruiting? Why would any top recruit sign with UGA if FL, LSU, Bama, Miami, or even SC or UT offered?

How do you expect a team to be disciplined when the head coach tells the whole team to go out and celebrate a touchdown?

How do you expect a team to be prepared for their biggest conference rival when the staff believes that uniforms are required to motivate?

How do you expect a team full of 4 and 5 star recruits to play like a team when they are more interested in biding their time until they can play on Sundays?

Why do you expect a team to play every year for a NC when their only NC came on the back of one of the best players in college fb history and have only won 2 SEC Championships since 1982?

This is a program (from the fans to the admins and everyone in between) that believes its own publicity machine.

On the ‘crutin’ trips, those immature athletes are shown that, at UGA, you don’ hav’ to go to class much or learn nuthin, there’s scores of fine easy women lined up to fetch you anythin’ you want, parties on the sideline and every night whether you win or lose, jumpin’ around with you team brothers on the sideline after TD’s whther or not you’re losin’, and all the time you got all of those ole dawg white bubba’s jus’ screamin’ their lil hearts out fer ya while stuffin’ mo $$$ in yo pockets. Yea, they see that life as a dawg is fine unlike the other schools where you actuall are expected to work in the classroom and produce on the field.

1) that spikes thing, he’s been told to do stuff like that and he’s been getting away with it for along time. pretty scary nothing gets done about it though, not even any press coverage. 2) good teams don’t have to rely on gimmicks, i know, it’s a players sport and they love that stuff, but you shouldn’t need it against #1 teams that are named florida.3) no more QB’s named Joe, they always seem to be “average”,,get it, 4) time to find a QB for next year, 2 down years in the SEC will kill ya, and last, but not least 5) our D has zero RESISTANCE to ANYBODY’S offense!!!!! we get a break only when they other team makes a mistake or just get bored with what’s working and they want to try something else. they could’ve scored 60 on us if they wanted too. i know it’s not going to happen in the middle of the year, but slick willie needs a change of scenery….

I’m sure they only wore the black helmets for Holloween so I wouldn’t read too much into that. You could have chosen any combination of red, black, silver and white uniforms yesterday and it wouldn’t have mattered. The team has no discipline. I believe they have heart and lots of talent but it’s not being used to the best abilities of the players they have. I hope you all see how much better Paul Johnson is as a coach by bending his players talents successfully to fit his system. I know it sucks for UGA fans but it’s true.

Mark, you’re the only person I’ve heard say that they watched the Brandon Spikes eye gouge on youtube and said they couldn’t tell what he was gouging at. C’mon. When somebody inserts their hand between the helmet and facemask in the general vicinity of the eyes and makes the gouging motion, it’s fair to assume that Spikes is not picking Washaun’s nose. Even the Florida fans admit it’s an eye gouge and just try to make excuses.

I’ve never blogged on a Gator or GT website. I don’t bother to read them – why would I?

The Gator and GT comments on The AJC sites that discuss The Dawgs have fully revealed the absolute lack of class many of these fans have.

When GT stunk for decade after decade I used to cheer for them unless they played The Dawgs.
When The Dawgs had a decent enough team for the game to be competitive I had respect for the Gator players and fans.

Now when The Dawgs are stinking up the field almost every game GT & Gator Fans come onto a Dawg Discussion site to stick the knife in deeper AFTER THE GAME IS OVER!

Mr. Bradley, I couldn’t agree with you more. Is playing the #1 team and border rival enough of a motivation? No more black in the uniforms at all. The Auburn 2007 blackout is a once in a lifetime thing. Can’t be done for 50 years.

Because even while they’re down they still have the audactity to talk trash about “That Trade School”. Lot’s of comments here…. but give this a thought, dawg fans. UGA will always get it’s fair share of good recruits just being UGA but…….would UGA football be better it they swapped Ala or UF or LSU coaching staffs???….If so, then you have your answer and should be getting to it with the clean up of your coaching staff—-top to bottom. UGA being UGA should be no less than an 8 win/1 SEC lose team year-in and year-out at a minimum by just showing up to the playing field. Anything above or below that should be a yardstick of your team’s coaches and their coaching ability. Right now…the answer is fairly clear to the outside observer. And….remember…discipline starts in the home. Until UGA coaches teach discipline and respect, they will continue to get none. Princ(ess) Miller would be a good place to start with the push-ups and running the bleachers.

Black helmets, pants, jerseys don’t make teams win. Soing back flips off the high dive, and jumping up and down with your team doesn’t make a team win. When Richt first came to UGA all the talk was mat drills, how hard they were and “finish the drill”. Now, it’s seems that the players are treated like his adpoted children. Richt is a good man, I like him and I beilieve he has plenty to offer. However, it seems the player don’t feel a need to perform for him or his staff. They don’t seem to be concerned about the consequences of failing. Our offensive coordinator’s FIRST job is the one he has now. It looked like Florida was the team with the bye week, UGA was totally OUCOACHED.

Obviously I am a GT fan but I’ve always been a fan of Mark Richt. Two years ago he was lauded as doing everything right to make his team play with emotion and everything looked good. I was so envious because our coach was such a milquetoast loser.
My have things changed.
What blows me away was hearing Richt on the radio Friday talking about how this was such a big rivalry game there wasn’t any need to pull any stunt to fire his team up. Then he turns around and does the silly black helmet and pants thing. Sad.

There’s been a lot of talk about the UGA team and coaching staff. So here’s a retrospective on a certain contingent of UGA “fans.”

Over 10,000 UGA fans had already packed up and left the stadium –in 1980 — when Buck Belue threw a certain pass to Lindsey Scott. Many fans during the 1980-1982 seasons were harping about the predictability of the offensive play calling, even with Herschel Walker in the backfield. Even more fans were saying the defense was too geared toward a bend-but-don’t-break philosophy. In fact the only time many of you weren’t whining, was after one game, in 1981.

Here’s the thing. A lot of you are far worse at being fans than Martinez has even been at being a defensive coordinator. Which leads to this.

You’re nothing to me now. You’re not a brother, you’re not a friend. I don’t want to know you or what you do. I don’t want to see you at the hotels, I don’t want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won’t be there. You understand?

Honestly, who is to say that the AD didn’t authorize the money to purchase the uni’s. I like the idea of the uniforms. No the way they are used is pathetic, but if they are used as far as for homecoming or incentive reasons for the team, then I think we can roll with it. Hell, its just like in the NFL, they have alternate jersies, let these guys have the same fun, well when they deserve it! Get off the topic of the uniform. Coaches…thats another blog topic that has already been visited. We know what we…well, what CMR has to do and I’m sure he knows it, but it would be the right thing to go ahead and finish the season and then replace him, but he should be using this time to sit and see who would make sense and a difference. As far as the fans, lets be realistic here, if the team doesn’t show, you are lucky enough to have the fans to actually show up. The fans aren’t the problem and everybody wants to put the blame other than where it belongs. Offense fills seats and the lack there of, UGA is lucky to see the support that they are getting. If the Football program goes downhill, all we have left is Gymnastics and they will never lose their fanbase because they get the job done! I actually hope that we lose out from here on so that we get rid of who we need to! Be a man CMR & Clean house!

I honestly have never seen college players play so stupidly. When you are a mediocre team with potential to be better, how can you keep letting players essentially run you out of a job. I’m afraid a good coach ’s loyalty will ultimately be his demise. I almost can’t bear to watch. I love them win or lose but in a rebuilding year ; well it seems the construction site has been abandoned.
