Tope ten recruits every year and we are going backwards. Offense line stinks. A senior QB that is just simply not a division one QB Defense is so bad I don’t know where to stat. Special teams that if we didn’t have All America kickers would be even worse. The penalties are staggering. Time for Richt to clean house emtirely. If he isn’t willing to do so than it is time for him to go. Cutcliff gets more done at Duke with division 2 type talent than we do with top ten recruits. Kelly has Cincinnati in the top five with middle of the line recruits. No passion or fire from the team. Something smells bad with this program and it isn’t the St. Johns river next to the stadium.

UGA claims to be a football power yet accepts mediocre performances like this. If you expect to play year in and year out with the big boys like Bama and Florida you need a coach who will not accept garbage play like this. Richt seems fine with it.

Does he actually show any emotions? Is he on anti-depressants? He has the same emotion at a big game like this as he does on his Ford commercial. LOL!!

Get rid of the whole coaching staff, My father said UGS would never contend for much when we were exiting the GA Dome after WVU laid the wood to our a$$e$ in the Sugar Bowl several years back. Isn’t it interesting that our offensive and defensive coordinators coach our biggest liabilities on the field – QB and DB’s. Former QB’s as HC and OC is a problem, DC in over his head is a problem, Special teams coach who appears to be clueless is a problem. Unfortunately we appear to be a team in total disarray – no leaders on the field and confused and clueless coaches on the field and in the boxes. Appears we are not doing a good job either assessing or recruiting talent. Maybe we should go after 1 – 3 star players instead of 4 -5 star players. At least those kids will be hungry and motivated to prove themselves. Any way you look at we’re screwed. If you fire the CMR and staff, we lose recruits and have to start over again – more down seasons. Best move is to unload DC and OC and staff, but good luck finding the guys who will turn it around. Bad schemes make good players look bad. Areas that need immediate turn around if we have any chance to salvage the season – Offensive line (don’t appear to know how to block), linebackers (do we have any linebackers on the field other than Curran), d-backs (way to much cushion), QB (play the freshman and move Gray to receiver), fundamentals – LEARN HOW TO TACKLE and coaches LEARN HOW TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS.

You take somebody who’s been in trouble with the law and say they has to go to anger management classes, then you recruit ‘em and put ‘em on the football field and all the anger is gone and it’s just meanness and that causes penalties. Coach was always about that when some of the guys was stealing hub caps and they’d lose playing time.

Mark, agreed on your 9:01. Will Richt make the necessary changes? CAN he make the necessary changes?

This feels like 2006, except that year you had a true freshman QB for most of the year, so some struggles were to be expected. This year I’m not sure what we have to build on going forward.

I think change in the off-season is needed. And if that means we lose some recruits so be it. Why ANY defensive recruit would hinge is college decision on Willie Martinez being there is perplexing. Don’t they want to improve in college?

No doubt this is a bad yr by Ga. standards…but do think that it is possible to fix these problems.
We need to salvage what we can of this season and built for next yr and keep recruiting hard.

Have to change our defensive philosophy and challenge every play. Coaches must coach harder than they have ever coached—better defense…

Richt and Bobo have to coach up Joe Cox or Logan Gray…At this point don’t know that I would risk playing Murray or Mettenberger when they could red-shirt….If we play Murray or Mettenberger now–we only have them for last 4 games and thus lose a whole yr of eligibility. Better QB play is a must.

Running game and O-Line looked better today….let’s continue to improve….Searles may have a better combination now at O-Line with today’s progress

Richt—you have to stop the penalties and turnovers….

Fla game is much more respectable without the dumb penalties and turnovers

Here would be my coaching changes, at least titles of those who I feel need to be changed. First and foremost, defensive coordinator. Willie Martinez shows the Peter Principle once again (you are promoted to your greatest level of incompetency). The next is the offensive/defensive line coach. We are so undisciplined that it’s not even funny. Finally, we need a different secondary coach. Our play has been decent this year, but we don’t have that killer attitude that the Safeties and Corners need to have in the SEC. If Richt doesn’t watch it, it’ll be his head on the block next year. One bad season is excusable. Another one is dismissible.

Not sure what Def Coordinator talent is out there on the bench right now, but if we look and there is some top tier talent I say we need to go for it now. Don’t wait for the end of the season when lot’s of teams will be looking. As far as Bobo, it’s hard to blame an offensive squad that lost Stafford & Marino for performing at a lower level this season. Richt is in charge and it’s his job to make the hard but necessary decisions and fire a coach who’s probably also his friend. If players don’t perform they don’t play, has to be the same for coaches.

Everyone should relax. These are 18-22 year old kids that are going to college to get an education. They just happen to play an extracurricular sport called football. Coach Richt is a “father” figure to most of these kids. As an excellent role model, he’s led numerous players to Christ and held them accountable for their actions off the field. Personally, Coach Richt can stay as long as he wants even if he goes .500 each year.

I fully believe you are a dear, sweet and wonderful saint of a man, and I wish you nothing but the best. However, it has become painfully clear that you and your coaching staff are simply outmatched. It isn’t about this year, or last year, it’s just the cold, hard reality of what the program looks like moving forward. The uniform switches have become embarrassing. You have a sputtering offense, a porous defense and a complete lack of discipline, and it does nothing but make you look clueless and desperate when the best you have is to hope and pray that some new threads inspire your players to play to a level far beyond what you’re actually coaching them to. As each week passes we all become more and more convinced that your days in Athens are numbered, and for that, I am truly sorry.

Mark, did the decency censors go home for the evening? No reason to allow the posts with the profane language. Kids read these blogs for crying out loud, and I was in the Marines!
That said, the Dogs have become a pathetically coached undisciplined bunch of ballplayers. Not a team, but a bunch of players. And did anyone else catch the announcers comment about Richt’s penalty comment? They led the ACC in penalties every year and it didn’t hurt them? Seriously? Fl St. was the ONLY school in the ACC then that had talent. Of course the penalties didn’t hurt back then, their opposition was horrible! Ga doesn’t have that luxury,and cannot hope to win against anyone currently in the conference outside of Vandy if we commit 10 penalties a game. We have to have a sea change in the direction of the program. Mark has got to get it under control, or we’ll be courting the coach from Cincinnati.

I agree, fire Mark Richt… Mark Richt should have known that we didnt have a decent qb under the wings of stafford. He shoud have know that MB and WM were not D-1 coordnators. It is time for him to go… Bring us Will Muschamp as head coach and make kirby smart the DC. then get us a OC from the west coast.. I have bee a bulldawg fan sese the age of six(1980)…And I cant remember any more disappointing time than now.. We have top notch talent with B-llsh-t coaching… Sorta like have a Bently, and let a shade tree mechanic service it. The coaches have lost this team! How can the same players continue to make the same mistakes and see playing time??? How can we continue to have stupid penatliesevery game. Did anyone else notice, when we were down 14-0 and they showed the defensive player sitting on the bench… Where were the coaches???? The things that have made Richt successful now cut both ways. He is loyal to a fault with his assistants. This is great when your assistants include BVG and miserable when they include Bobo and Martinez. He is not going to fire them and they are not going to leave (honestly, who would want them?). The other thing Richt does is give his QB’s their senior year if they have ridden the bench the previous three. This has helped Richt keep some high quality QBs like Shockley, but has burned us with the Joe’s (III and Cox). In the final analysis, the whole conference knows Richt’s schtick and his whole bag of tricks. His program is yesterday’s news, and now we are losing the nuclear race of the SEC big time. Richt is comfortable sitting at #2 in the SEC East every year, but now those days are over. It would be best for Richt and UGA to amicably part ways. The appropriate conversation for fans now is who the next coach should be, what it would cost to buy Richt out, etc etc. It won’t happen this year, but it is a certainty – this will end badly because it will take this program 5 years at this point to even get back to being second best in the SEC. So put Richt behind us – who is looking good now (Gruden, Cowher, Cutcliffe, someone else)? What could we could get them for, what can we pay Richt to leave?

We used to block punts (SEC Championship game vs. Arkansas), We used to sack QBs (Sugar Bowl vs, Hawaii)… We used to stun teams and put them back on their heals (SEC championship vs. LSU) This team looks uninspired, listless, and the penalties – unreal I can’t believe its the same program…

Yeah, Spikes did that and most people missed it, including the announcers and refs. Good catch. I agree with J Clay that Willie should resign so his friend is not conflicted about firing him. Don’t know if Willie is wired that way, though. The D line is coached by Fabris (ends) and Garner (tackles). Tackles have played pretty well, ends have played better since Houston’s arrival. Bobo needs to be the O coordinator, not as it is now with Bobo the ‘passing coordinator’ and Searles the ‘run coordinator’. One guy, one decision.

I truly don’t know what to say. This was a total embarassment. I agree with Mark 110%, its not the talent but the coaching that’s crippling Georgia. CMR has lost control of this program and he won’t get it back. I’m not a prophet but I will guarantee that there will be some wholesale changes on his staff but enough about the future, let’s talk about the here and now: Joe Cox needs to be benched. This season is lost so why not put in another QB and get him ready for next year. We were actually in the game until he threw those interceptions. I feel sad for CMR (to an extent) because he can’t make decisions. How far are we going to fall behind the powers of the SEC? and What’s going to happen at season’s end especially if we don’t make a bowl? If i’m a UGA assistant, I’ll be putting for sale signs in my front yard. Don’t get me wrong, Georgia is a talented football team, the only problem is they have taken on the personality of their head coach. Oh well, there’s always next year.

After first, at the start of the season, does CMR say that we have to concentrate on the penalties, then proudly say that at FSU we led the league in penalties and it did not matter, then after the game tonight say that we have to get them under control, WTF is going on?
UGA has traditionally played the game minus penalties and MISTAKES. This is not a disciplined team and it comes from the top. We used to lead the world in take aways and Thinking football,,,, so far have we fallen….after Tenn. Tech, God willing, I fear our fate

Mark will not be fired. If he doesn’t make changes, the heat will become awfully uncomfortable. BUT, if he’s the coach, then he has to run the program. If he runs it poorly, you replace him, and the new guy gets to choose his staff. Mark can turn it around, he’s a good coach. There’s a breakdown going on throughout the football program. Absolutely no discipline — we’re just about the nation’s most-penalized team. No offense. No defense. Nobody in the athletic department willing to stand up and admit it’s broken.

In my opinion this is what UGA needs to become a top program again.

1) Damon Evans needs to hold Coach Richt more accountable, he has gotten too complacent, too comfortable. Richt needs to be a bit more down and dirty. Call a few coaches and players out IN PUBLIC, let them know this situation is unacceptable.
2) Hire new offensive AND defensive coordinators who are PROVEN to be successful at their craft and DEMAND that they coach the players up and DEMAND discipline.
-Both Bobo and Martinez were promoted to their positions with no big time previous success
-The offense is way too predictable (play action & throw to A.J.) and the defensive players are ALWAYS out of position
-Keep Bobo, but only as the QB coach

3) If Richt refuses to fire Willie Martinez or at least demote him, then Richt must be fired!

4) Bulldogs are aggressive! We want an aggressive, attacking defensive scheme. Too often the defensive backs are not even in the vicinity when the opposing teams receivers catch the ball.

5) Speed is important, but the Dawgs need to recruit bigger and stronger cornerbacks

6) See number 5, the Dawgs need to recruit bigger and more powerful running backs, I’ll sacrifice a few steps of speed for a bigger back that will run over a few people and make them think twice about making a tackle.

7) Football is not that complicated, the team that blocks the best, tackles the best and executes the best usually wins. Coach Richt’s team is currently FAILING and in three categories.

Hit the recruiting trail hard and not just for 4-star and 5-star players, but players heart and desire.

Even though I like CMR,he does need to make changes to his coaching staff. I wish he could make a change to his demeanor and show a little fire when his team messes up with all the turnovers and penalties. He reminds me of Bobby Cox in that he never publicly criticizes his team.And just like Cox he is loyal to a fault.Sometimes you have to make the hard decisions and fire or demote your buddy.Do you think that Urban Meyer or Nick Saban would put up with this mediocrity? At the end of the season, the best thing for everyone, to include Richt, Willie, Bobo et al may be to just wipe the slate clean by buying out Richt’s contract and then to find a guy who can hang with Meyer and Saban, not to mention Kiffin and Johnson. They are out there. Evans gets paid a lot of money to be the athletic director. I say he starts earning it. Look at the guys at TCU, Boise State, Cincinnati. Don’t get someone who has never held a head-coaching position before. Pay the money to get somebody who has been successful as a head coach. Money is no object. Then tell him to hire the best asistant coaches he can get and pay them top dollar as well. You get what you pay for. If it takes 4 million to get a top-notch coach, well, that’s big time college football in this day and age. It isn’t 1966 any more. If you want to compete in the SEC, you got to step up to the plate. If you don’t, today is a pretty good indicator of what you are going to end up with. And one other thing, no matter how successful the next guy is, NEVER,NEVER,NEVER give him a ten year contract. Things can change in a hurry. Georgia fans can testify to that.

Well, well, well. Saint Mark is FINALLY being recognized for being an overrated “coach”.

Now, if the pathetic jock sniffers who reside in Bulldog Nation can figure that Saint Mark is also a hypocrite, we’ll be cooking with gas.

In the meantime, let’s celebrate Saint Mark for being nothing more than a younger, slightly less senile version of his mentor, good ole Booby Bowdown. Like good ole Booby, Saint Mark can win when he has superior athletes, but put him in a situation where he has to actually “coach” against a team that has similar or better talent … well, dadgummit, it’s all over but the crying.

Anyway, Saint Mark has guaranteed that UGA will continue to “boast” the most underachieving program in the entire country. The Dawgs are blessed with a great recruiting base, excellent facilities, a huge war chest, and a (literally) rabid fan base … and yet they still haven’t won a national title since Herschel still had one personality.

It seems to me that Richt has lost his confidence, and the team has figured that out. Why result to gimmicks like the uniform nonsense? Why result to the celebration nonsense?

The program is stale, perhaps a new defensive staff will ignite something within the team.

Don’t look now but Georgia should be get used to be third best because it sure looks like UF and UT aren’t going anywhere . . .

While I agree that the Defense needs new direction, that wont solve the problem.

How many of Florida’s points came off turnovers from the OFFENSE?

How many offensive drives were crippled by penalties?

I think these point to larger problems! Coach Richt got the job and did an outstanding job based on his offensive capabilities, and his knack for recruiting and teaching QB’s (as I recall). Has he gotten away from his strengths by assuming a “CEO” mantle as his mentor Bobby Bowden did? It would certainly contribute to some logical explanation as to how the program has slipped a notch despite consistently superior recruiting classes.

Undisciplined players, clueless coaching. Week in week out what is it going to take for before Richt wakes up and get some coaches that have a clue how to coach. Why do these same players who make senseless mistakes are left on the field? One of the highest penalized Division one teams with the highest turnovers. Changing uniforms seems to be the only thing they know how to do, and that isn’t working. This Georgia team is an embarrassment to the school, to the tradition of Georgia football.

If the players are stubborn, hard headed, stupid, whatever. It is those players that CMR recruited. I agree though that the coaches main responsibility to game plan. Hell, maybe that is why CWM cannot make adjustments during games. He is to busy trying to reteach fundementals. Plain and simple, it’s a down year. Richt is a great coach, but remember, this is his first chance as a headcoach. He’s going to have to make some tough decisions in the off-season. We have tons of young talent and more on the way. I have been very disappointed this season and I’m wondering where this program is going, but I think Richt should stay. GATA

The sad reality is that Georgia continues to bring in highly-rated recruits and they never seem to get any better. They don’t look like they’ve ever been in a weight room, they can’t tackle the goal post, they play without any positive emotion, they are constantly out of position and commit stupid penalties and mental mistakes on both sides of the ball over and over again. Either this coaching staff can’t coach (probably true) or the coaches are recruiting the wrong athletes (somewhat true) and wasting the program’s resources (no doubt) – either way the coaches (from Richt to Martinez to Bobo to Garner and right on down the line) are all to blame! We need Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart fast so let’s starting passing the hat!

The first or second play the Dawgs have the ball, the play is whistled dead when the ball is snapped. Spikes comes through an empty line and hits Waushan helmet to helmet. Waushan is knocked back and reacts by going back at Spikes. His OL follows him and more flags are thrown. None on the Gators or Spikes. Brillant move by Spikes or Meyers because the refs watch and throw flags constantly the rest of the half and a good bit of the second half. I would like to think Meyer had nothing to do with it.

I started going to UGA games in 1955 as a kid. Today I’ve seen the best and worst of UGA football. But today and against Tennessee Georgia football sucks. Plain and simple. Coaching…planyers…and Joe Cox needs to be gone. Are you kidding me this team is a joke!!!!!!! Get rid of the Richt…and the AD.Please. Where is the direction…not from the President Adams…what a joke…Come on you guys…stand up. Personally, I was very disappointed when I saw the black helmets today. When CMR came to UGA, he kept saying it was all about embracing and teaching the UGA traditions. Since CBVG left, I haven’t seen much of the UGA tradition. I like CMR as a person, not so sure as a HC. His decisions are what brought UGA to this place. BTW, I did NOT think that we would win today against the #1 team & #1 defense. However, I did expect more and I did NOT expect another “Oregon switch of uniforms”. I am ok with a loss to a better team. I am not ok with the state of the UGA program in 2009.

Attention A.D. Evans and Pres. M. Adams:
Please tell M. Richt “thank you” from all of the Bulldog Nation. He did after all lead us from the Donnan era. But Donnan, lest we forget, had rescued us from the Goff era (yikes)! Donnan did manage to sour the nation faster than Richt though by whining and complaining. Richt has done so by remaining loyal to a hopelessly overmatched DC. I for one am not calling for Bobo’s job yet because i think the #1 problem is a grossfully overmatched QB that our fearless leader is loyal to as well. Donnan was ran for being a “Millymouth”. Richt needs to go for a much more heinous crime. His “loyalty” to his inept assistant coaches (Fabris and Martinez) AND HIS AVERAGE HIGH SCHOOL ARMED QB, is nothing less than TREASON to the entire Bulldog Nation.

You folks are using words like embarrassed and ashamed. If you are a DAWG…never, ever, ever use those words. I cannot think of a scenario in which I would ever be ashamed to be a Dawg fan. Folks I know the quick solution is always fire the coach. However, that is not necessarily the best solution. You don’t make a change just for change
sake. No one can say for certain that whomever is going to be an improvement. Be rational. Calm down, back our kids and coaches as well, if you have it in you. Let the season play out. Enjoy opportunities that may come our way. Enjoy football. One doesn’t always have to negative. Be proud to be a Dawg, no matter what. We/team/fans/etc. still have work to do. As far as “our” cochihg staff, just remember, in due time.

Your column is right on point. But, the same problems existed last year that are so obvious this year: lack of tackling, penalties, uninspired offensive play-calling, an inept defense that puts no pressure on the opposing QB and cannot adjust to its adversary’s game plan. Talent like Stafford, Moreno, and Massaquoi helped cover a multitude of sins. However, it all came into sharp focus during the Tech game — and even Jeff Schultz wrote in one of his columns towards the end of last season that the poor performance hung on Martinez, but next year (2009 season) it hangs on Richt because he did nothing to fix the problem (even worse, defended the problem). I agreed with Schultz then, and I agree with him still. Richt is an honorable man who helped rebuild the program. But he is also the team CEO, and CEOs must make tough choices. I agree with you that Richt probably won’t get fired at the end of this season, and as much as I would hate to see him go, maybe it is time.

We’re 4 and 4, it’s not an indictment of our program? Continued comments like this are lame, coach is not manning up to our problems. I don’t know how he can continue to make excuses, his credibility and integrity is beginning to be questioned in my mind. All I ask for is for Coach to admit we have problems and promise he will do whatever it takes to try and fix them.

Everyone wants to blame Willie, and he is sub-par. How many picks did he throw today? There are problems in just about every area of this team, lack of discipline, poor fundamentals, we are and have been resorting to gimmicks, uniforms, blackouts, etc.

How many passes did Tebow intercept today? Their players aren’t any more gifted than ours, what’s the difference. Culture, Attitude, Discipline, Tenacity: where does that come from? Leadership….We all know it now, although some of us still won’t admit it, it’s time for change.

I for one am tired, no more excuses, CMR is accountable for all, he’s surrounded himslef by sub-par coaches. He won’t be fired, and I’m not advocating that, but he hasn’t earned his salary. Just calling it like I see it.

I swear, give me the money, I can sit down and draw up a solution to every problem we have, why can’t Richt. When you build a team, you always plan for the unexpected. When you have a top notch DC, you bring on an apprentice and groom them to succeed their boss. One, it puts pressure on them to perform, two, it gives you options should they move on to better things, or should they fail. Richt hasn’t built an organization, he has built a fraternity of brothers. They have grown stale. This philosophy is the cornerstone of successful businesses and programs. This goes from top to bottom, DC, OC, Assistants, players, and yes, even HC’s. Richt is not a CEO at this point, he’s lost. It’s his job to insure the people he has in place are capable and are doing their jobs. If Richt isn’t, then Evans should. Obviously Evan’s is asleep at the wheel also.

I’m complaining but not throwing Richt to the wolves. He needs to make many changes, often a subtle change is all it takes but he has to get sharper. I don’t have to throw him to the wolves, they’re already at the door. Coach, do your job! Richt needs to search his soul and see if coaching is what he really wants to do, it’s a huge committment, a 365 day a year job now, full of tough, unpleasant decisions. If he doesn’t have the fire, the will, the energy, the backbone, please don’t drag our program any lower to satisfy your income needs. Retire.

The longer he drags his feet the uglier this will be.

If you’re going to be undisciplined, show some swagger when comitting these fouls.

I remember the Miami Hurricanes regularly chalking up 200 yards in penalties per game. But they won championships in the process.

They is some similarities here to baseball. Bobby Cox surrounds hisself with coaches that don’t coach too well and look at what has happened. They can’t bunt, they can’t run the bases, and they don’t win. Mark Richt has some coaches that has the players not wrapping up and not tackling. They also has some that are not behaving very well on the field and on the sidelines. Richt should teach them to be polite.

Secondly, if you have to question whether Florida has better players, you need to have your head examined. Tebow vs. Cox? Mark, are you insane. Look at every other position matchup. Florida has talent. UGA doesn’t. That’s it. Do you really think UGA and UF could flip coaches and UGA could win with those players? No way. Urban as good, but UGA is garbage. Why it took you 8 games to figure it out is makes me question your sports acumen.

Willie Martinez should be let go NOW!! He has TWO FREAKIN WEEKS to prepare and the best he can do is trot his same tired ol cookie cutter one size fits all soft zone defense out there?!!

-Cox should be on the bench-PERIOD! Turn the reigns over to Gray and Murray they are the future.
We’ve had 21 turnovers this year and Cox is responsible for 14 of them!!! 11 INTs and 2 Fumbles! At least ONE INT EVERY GAME! IF A.Murray is as good as advertised we will lose him after his redshirt sophmore/Junior season, so why not burn his shirt and get him work now to prepare him for next season. He CAN’T do any worse than Cox
-Fire Willie NOW!!! Let Garner run the defense for the rest of the season and have Damon start working up a short list so we can make the move right at the end of the season and preserve recruiting.
-Move Samuel to LB NOW, he will be more valuable to the team and himself in this position. Ealy, King and Thomas can handle the run duties, let him go ahead and start the transition now so he’ll be that much more prepared for spring drills.

If Richt CAN NOT make the tough descisons then he needs to go PERIOD. I think Richt has the ability to be an elite coach, but he’s got to grow a set and be willing to cut dead weight. THIS is a prime example of why you DO NOT HIRE FRIENDS. Nine times out of 10 NOTHING good will come of it.
I still love the Dawgs and as I took my sons Trick or Treating tonight I kept my gear on here in Jacksonville.
The players, fans, and alumni ALLL deserve MUCH better than what we’re getting. I will say Bobo called a good game today, and it would have been interesting to see what Murray could have done vs noodle armed Cox!
This Program is at a crucial turning point. Either heads remain buried in the sand and we will continue to wallow in medocricy OR the TOUGH descisions will be made and the ship will be righted.
IF SOME MAJOR CHANGES DON’T TAKE PLACE SOON, then Tenn, GT, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and even Miss State are going to blow right past UGA, there are signs at all of them that they are closer to doing so than not.

The hardest part to bear is this: As bad as this year looks, next year looks even worse. We will be starting a true freshman with no experience at quarterback. Our best defensive players, to the extent we have any, will be gone, and we are going to get hammered by bama, tennessee, and florida in recruiting.

It’s the truth. I’m a Vol fan but I follow Georgia closely simply because I live here in the middle of it. Richt reminds me of Phil Fulmer, loyal to a fault. Sticking with Randy Sanders for so long is what I believe ultimately did Fulmer in.

Georgia’s defense has been horrid under Martinez, & the offensive side has looked pretty weak since Richt handed over play-calling to Bobo.

News Flash from Washington DC

The Obama Healthcare bill making its way through Congress has just rec’d a new amendment Seems that the controversial “Public Option” has been altered to include Dawg Fans. The way it works is as follows:

If your team is not good (like UGA) you can go outside the network and root for another team until your alma mater gets its act together. I think this will draw strong bi-partisan support from loyal Dawg People who are unhappy with the team they are stuck with. I will keep you posted on any developments.

I knew the game was lost, right at the beginning when GA deferred posession to the 2nd half, and ran the ball the first few plays of the game. GA, sad to say, must give up trying to establish the passing game with a running game that is non-existant. GA must get back to the basics and learn agressive offensive blocking schemes with controllled authroity. We make way too many mistakes and have too many penalties to have a dominate rushing game. Discipline must come from the coaching staff first. It doesn’t matter the quality players you recruit, if you do coach the basics.

Would Urban Meyer win with Georgia recruits? Absolutely. Steve Spurrier asked, what happens to these top recruits once they set foot on the Georgia campus? The answer is, not a whole heck of alot.

An SEC caliber quarterback, as some posters have suggested that Joe Cox is not, would not make a bit of difference. If CMR could lose to Florida by a score of 49-10 with a quarterback like Stafford, the Dawgs quarterback situation is not really the problem.

To make my case for the difference a coach can make, take a look at the 3 years Florida had Zook. Excellent recruiting but very poor program management and coaching. Insert Urban Meyer with those same players and you have a national champion.

CMR is not as bad as Zook, but the Georgia assistants are much worse than the assistants under Zook in those 3 years. Net result is what you are witnessing.

I am from north Florida, but I have resided in the Atlanta area for over 27 years.

Mark, what is your problem? You bait the UGA fan base with crap like, ” Ga has Florida right where they want them.”

My biggest gripe with your little wimp butt is this, why do you continue to run our coach and our program? Give it a break. Take all of your personal “Kentucky” bs out of the argument. Give Urban Meyer a little credit.

That’s why Nick Saban can take a depleted Bama roster and have them positioned as a legitimate national championship contender in two seasons. The guy has game, and so does Urban Meyer. Leadership sets the standard. Leadership sets the expectations. Leadership sets the tone. All of these SEC athletes have the talent to win. They just need the tools and guidance to lead them to victory, something the Bama and UF coaches are providing.

I never thought I’d say this, but it’s time for Richt to be replaced. This is the 4th year of steady decline, sub-par coachig being the problem. Richt has been obvlious, and only now acknowledges he has problems because of media pressure and the fact his team is 4 & 4.
As long as Richt is at Georgia, we will remain middle of the pack as it was apparently dumb luck those first few years. Don’t expect any more SEC championships by Richt. The party’s over.

Same crap, different week. Year after year we get the talent, but we very rarely can play a complete game. We’ve had the players yet only on occasion do we ever have moments – and I mean moments – of being an ‘elite’ team in any conference. Even under the Richt era – after 8-9 years and millions spent in salaries – we are at best a B program. Yes, a couple of years we were B+, but we’ve never been an A. Get some new coaches and new game plan. You get the talent but the obvious thing that is missing is discipline, motivation, teamwork, and leadership. I see ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE ABOVE IN THIS YEAR’s TEAM.

Pathetic effort from the coaches today and an even worse performance from the players. What made things so sad is to watch how the Dawgs wanted KUDOS for making tackles after a player came up a yard short after 1st down or better yet, finally tackling Tebow after the score is 31-10. Our players have been beaten so bad by Florida that they don’t know what it is like to actually have a meaningful season year after year. I actually loved the new look, well the facemask should’ve been white or black, but I loved the look. The only thing is give it to the players when they deserve to have on their “Saturday’s Best”! Honestly, I could care less about what the Dawgs do year after year now, I just wish we could stop the bleeding against Florida and now the rest of the SEC East has caught up! We played NO-Go-JOE all game seeing the way he played and then throw Gray in there expecting a difference when he has never really played…sigh! I honestly would go after Charlie Strong as I have heard many journalist say! If you can’t beat the man, might as well have him work for ya! The sorry part about this game is that it will happen again next year. We have no heart and nothing below!

Wow – I’m a Tech alum, and even I will have to say that game was sad to watch. Last week, I was thinking that the UGA “crazies” were going off the deap end about Richt. Now, I’m not so sure. The dawgs were shown up in an embarassing way. The worst part was that they seemed to have no idea of what they were doing. The uniforms just made the whole thing more pathetic to me. That’s a first and it takes a lot to make me feel sorry for dawg fans.

After today’s performance it would be hard not to put us in the Miss St/Vandy catagory.How did we fall so far,so fast? Lack of talent,overhyped recruits or just plain old bad coaching. This team had 2 weeks to get ready but yet they looked totally unprepared.You know you do not have a very good defense when your best player is RC & he would be a backup at FL,AL,TN,SC,LSU,MISS,AUBURN,etc.

I’m afraid that GT will put up over 500yds rushing & over 50pt on us in a few weeks.
But the only good thing that will come out of it is that CMR will be forced to do something about Willie

Im a Dawgs fan but i agree with everything that Sane Tech Fan said.
We get the best recruits in the state and top 5-10 in the nation however we dont have the coaching to do anything with the talent. We need a new DC and a new OC and just a new way of thinking.
I dont see why everyother dawg fan is hating on Tech, they have a good team and i root for them whenever they dont play UGA.

Our defense is not good enough to give our offense a chance to win. With the loss of Moreno and Stafford, we are an average offense that stalls at times, leaving our defense on the field more often. Thus, these problems are more noticeable this season. Our defense displays poor tackling, often out of position to make plays, and is often fooled by misdirection plays as well as spread offenses. This most likely has nothing to do with talent but much more due to poor coaching which lies at the fault of Willie Martinez, not Richt or Bobo. As active member of the Dallas Alumni Chapter, I know many members feel the same way about this. We need a solid DC with proven track record against spread offenses along the lines of Bud Foster or Dick Bumpas. I would prefer Dick Bumpas given his track record with high powered offenses of the Mtn West and Big 12. Plus, there is greater likely chance he would consider UGA. Imagine what he could do with the resources at UGA compared to TCU.

Why did Urban Meyer make that statement about how tough the UGA defense was at halftime? Was this a plug for his coaching buddy…..maybe Urban might want to add him to his staff?

Once again, the UGA family of students, players, and alumni should call upon the athletic director and coaching staff to release Willie Martinez of his services so he can seek employment elsewhere where his talents would be more effective.

MB – to say you think that Mark Richt is a good coach is just laughable. If you’re indicting those around him, the HE is indeed responsible for putting those around him. Being a good coach isn’t just about X’s and O’s (about which even that is suspect about Richt). It’s about being a good leader, about surrounding yourself with the right people, and about coaching up your players. On all three of these, Richt is a complete and utter failure.

So, again, MB, what is it that makes Richt a good coach? Did it ever cross your mind that his early successes were because he had natural born leaders on the team already (Greene, Pollack, Shockley, etc…) and fire on his coaching staff (Van Gorder)? Without those, the emperor has been shown to have no clothes.

It gets worse from here, my friends. The longer you stick with Richt, the more you will see. He is completely and utterly clueless.

UGA alum/fans really need to get perspective. You have a huge fan base (over 10x size of GT in the state of GA), you own the state, over 3/4 of your alum stay in the state or region, etc. GT has 11,000 undergraduate (compared to 30,000+ in Athens) of which maybe 6000 care about sports and football. 1/3 of the student base is from overseas and cares more about cricket or futbol. Over 2/3 of our alum base move out of the region or overseas. You don’t know how good you have it. You’re having a down year and some disappointment from last year overly high expectations. The program is solid and it will be back.

First off, several of you deserve a 15 yarder for piling on. Now that being said…

FORGET Will Muschamp. He is the next head coach at Texas. End of story.

As for the season itself, it’s a lost cause. AT BEST this team is going to Nashville for a bowl game, but even that looks to be in doubt. Who’s to blame? Well, there’s plenty of it to be spread around, and many of the “educated” ones here already speculated on it. I think my immediate thought is that unless you’ve got someone big in mind to bring here to replace Richt, you can’t fire him right now. People said the same thing about Joe Paterno for having several down seasons. Yet he brought Penn State back to relevance. Richt has earned a pass because he has SEC Titles; something Donnan and Goff didn’t win. But I don’t doubt an overhaul is coming after the Tech game. The example I make with people is if Martinez and Bobo are such genius coordinators, then why aren’t other schools/pros trying to lure them away like they have in recent years at other big programs like USC (Chow), Oklahoma (Stoops), LSU (Pellini)- those are just three examples but there are plenty of others in the SEC I could rattle off. The reason is that teams have figured the Dawgs out, combined with letting UGA beat themselves with penalties and mental lapses. The talent is responsible for the execution, but the coaching staff has to take responsibility for the gameplanning end of it. It’s sad when you have 2 weeks to figure out a way to stop Florida, and you spend more time shopping for helmet color. Why not wear pink for breast cancer awareness?

The bottom line is this: Willie Martinez signed his walking papers today. This has been a long time coming, and if it was going to take a season like this to wake people up to the fact there’s somethign wrong within the UGA program, it’s almost better that we can get the bad year out of the way now. A final note for those of you that are ready to run CMR out of town- be careful what you wish for. Are you prepared for MULTIPLE losing seasons as part of a multi-year overhaul of the program???

UGA reminds me of the Falcons of days gone by. forget being undisciplined, forget being outplayed, and outcoached. Until the dawgs get past the sense of entitlement of having stuck with the program as a determination of playing time, georgia will never make NCG. How do you red shirt two quarterbacks in the same year with Joe Cox and Logan Gray as your quarterbacks? how do you continue to trot Cox out game after game when he is ill equipped ill prepared and unable.

Enough whining about eye gouging, Dawg fans. If anything, you should be furious about how undisciplined your team is – cheap shots and personal fouls galore. Remember when Spikes had to take himself out of the game holding his eye? I wonder what caused that?

If you want to suspend Spikes for eye gouging, you also need to suspend Davis for ripping Spikes’ helmet off, pulling his hair, etc.

Quit your belly aching. We stepped on your necks today. Deal with it.

Yes Gator fans you have it correct…UGA gets their @ss kicked by you and they come on this blog and abuse the GT people because it is all the cowards know to do…Before our games, they talk about how we are going to get killed especially when we play an SEC team and when we win, then they say “oh you did not play anybody”…funny but I do not see them scheduling any games against ACC opponents though they make fun of it every day. Would love to see a UGA and Clemson game..but noooooooooooo……neither team is ranked …but UGA won’t do it..

Richt is a good coach and he has very good coordinators. The breaks (including the calls) just didn’t go the dogs’ way. They’ll have much better luck next year. Keep the entire staff intact. Except maybe bring in Chan as QB coach. Too bad Cox doesn’t have another year. I like our thuggish players though, they give me hope and inspiration. Go Dogs!

Look, I am as loyal to the UGA as a non-alumni can get. But what made Richt so great early in the decade was having great assistants around him, a strong we are going to win no matter the effort required, few penalties… Now our defense and offense even with really good players, forgiving for injuries, are lacking. Look around the college football world, Kirby Smart is running the Bama D and the are killing, Will Muschamp is at Texas. Both teams are #2 & #3 respectfully. All the love in the world to W. Martinez. But you have to cut the bleeding somewhere. Those two men were homegrown and bred. We need to bring in a top notch, fresh prespective for the D. otherwise it will remain stale and never get better just worse. Some fault lies with the players for not executing the plays, but when it happens repeatedly it falls to the coaches who coach them for not having prepared them properly. We need to act and act soon. Not this season, just let it finish playing out. I just can’t stand the fact that in my memorable lifetime against the hated Gators we are 4 for 20. It makes me sick.

It’s official. The Dawgs’ are a mediocre program. I’ll give Joe Cox an “E” for effort; but he is a “one read and throw” qb. If the first read don’t work, he’s lost and tries to run the play anyway. The defense needs total rebuilding. The Dawgs’ LBs are substandard. I’ll give Curran and “E” for effort;but, what type LB would you rather have in the center core of your defense? McClain/Spikes (6′4″ >240lbs) or Curran? The other LBs don’t tackle well and Curran is easily blocked. The Dawgs’ DBs are playing guessing games and never recognize routes or know where the ball is. They don’t have anyone that can rove and disrupt a la Eric Berry. The main thing with the recruiting; seems to be geared toward highly rated skill/track type players. Linemen and tough guy/football players seem to be low on the priority list..Tuberville and Fulmer found out last year; you better keep pace and adapt in the SEC.

2nd rate my arse. I wish we were 2nd rate. CMR should have fired CWM at the end of 2006. The losses to Auburn and WV in 2005 combined with Blowing the 24-07 lead to the Vols. in 2006 should have convinced CMR that CWM is inept. Defensive Coordinator is a total misnomer of a Job Title with CWM running the defense. UGA’s defense looks confused, apprehensive, unsound, fundamentally inept, and completely undisciplined. Succintly, they look uncooridinated.

Spent $3000 going to the game with my entire family of 6. Sat behind the ga. bench and saw firsthand the attitude and character of this team. Left totally disappointed not just that we lost. But the way we lost: Had to watch totally non-chalant Caleb King and Washaun Ealey dancing on the sideline in the 3rd and 4th quarter when we were down 2-3 touchdowns. Players who are just not focused and coaches that rarely discipline poor attitdues or mistakes on the field. This tells me that Ritch has lost total control of the team. After watching Georgia for the past 25 years, the last 2 seasons reminds me of the golf years. I hate to say it but I think Ritch is through…winning is not the only priority and unfortunately in this league, it has to be or you get left behind.

Players and recruits read what you write and I’d bet 90% of the georgia players wish they had signed somewhere else. It’s hard to play well when you’re afraid of making a mistake and the dog nation puts that pressure on it’s players. You deserve every dissapointment you get!

A total loss? Bradley, UGA has enjoyed more success through the CMR years than all but a few. Today, the Oline protected and blocked well, Ealey discovered he could run the football against the best the SEC has to offer. Receivers are among the best in the country. We have some great young players on D. Yes we are having a down year! Hell , Oregon just beat S.Cal 47to 20. No one stays up forever. I am a Georgia Bulldog and I am damned proud of it . The RED and BLACK always comes back!!!! Now how does that sit with you sniveling little crybabies. RED says GO DOGS!!!!!!!
