UGA fans, what’s an acceptable result in Jacksonville?

gafoot.1102

Is it possible to lose to the hated Gators and still feel good? (AJC photo by Pouya Dianat)

Georgia heads to Jacksonville unranked, which it almost never is, and a two-touchdown underdog, which it never is. It will be met by a team that hasn’t lost since September 2008, a team tracking a second consecutive BCS title. (Know how many schools have won consecutive BCS titles? None.)

Put simply, Georgia is up against it in a way unaccustomed to Georgia teams under Mark Richt. It lost to Florida 49-10 a year ago in what seemed a coin-flip game going in. This one is no coin flip. This outcome seems foregone.

But hope springs eternal in the breast of every fan, and on the day before Halloween I want to ask Dawg fans this question: What would you deem an acceptable outcome Saturday?

A narrow and honorable loss? (Within a touchdown, say.) Or is actual victory the only satisfactory result? And here’s a twist: If beating Florida convinces Mark Richt he doesn’t need to make changes within his program, would you rather Georgia lose? Or would beating the Gators when they’re ranked No. 1 be worth another year of Willie Martinez?

I’d put up a poll, but I don’t think the parameters of a poll are broad enough. I’m interested in your thoughts. So rather that click on “yes” or “no,” I invite you denizens of Bulldog Nation to avail yourselves of the white comment box below. And I thank you in advance. And you’ll hear from me again Saturday afternoon from you-know-where.

I said it in a comment after an earlier post: I believe this will either be 48-7 or 24-20. But either way I think Florida wins. I just don’t think Georgia is good enough this time.

it’s like with Dallas fans right now who know Wade Phillips will NEVER lead them to anything.

You know, the REALISTIC Dallas fans, and not the crazy ones. The ones who know that with every win Wade has in the regular season, pushing his team close to a Wild Card, the more their meddling owner will preen like the plastic surgery peacock he is and say, “I was right, Wade IS the right guy to coach my team!”

Yes, in this analogy, Mark Richt = Jerruh Jones.

Does ANYONE out there want Mark Richt to be able to point to THIS game as the reason he refuses to fire Martinez? Even though we’re gonna get stomped by Tech anyway?

This win would allow for a stomped by Tech or a lose to Auburn situation and still allow Willie to keep his job.

But, in the end, it’s all moot anyway.

We’re talking Willie Marinez, people!

The man Erik Ainge and John Parker Wilson owe their NFL careers, whatever they amount to, to.

The man, when given two weeks to plan for Tech, didn’t do what any intelligent coach would have done (introduced a 3-4 and 46 package into his defense to counter act all the running backs).

Martinez will seal his own doom, so I don’t have to do as Dallas
fans or Redskin fans or Cleveland fans are doing, and root AGAINST my team.

But God help us if we actually win.

Acceptable result: a Georgia win or loss where the team fights from starts to finish and doesn’t fold like a wet blanket at the first sign of adversity. We’ve seen way too much of that in recent years against several teams (Tennessee being the most inexplicable). Just play Florida the same way LSU, Arkansas and Miss. St. did in recent weeks, and win or lose I’ll be proud of the Dawgs.

Mark, a victory is needed period. I would THINK Coach Richt would look at the entire season to evaluate his staff (so they are called). I think a moral victory to the fans would be a close loss, but to the team, just another loss and no moral victory at all. I am no blind homer, but the history of this game means the record, nor better team on paper WILL win. An example of such….last year “USC vs stanford…..Rivalry means just that. The up side says GA-17 FL-10. The down side says FL-35 Ga- 3. I would not bet either way. The moral victory says FL-24 GA-17

An acceptable loss will show improvement on both sides of the ball, heart, fire and leadership. Only glimpses of each have been seen in any game this season, and never all at once. If we make Tebow look like the Heisman player he once was, after what teams like Miss State and Arky did to him, then Willy is gone. If we lose, Willy may only be demoted if CMR doesn’t want him gone. A win will not assure holding the DC title another year. Dominate the rest of the season defensively, then we have a problem with Willy.

But nothing we have done for two years now makes me believe we will play consistently during this game, nor in the future games. I used to believe in the old adage that “Any given Saturday, any team can win.” Heck, it happened last year vs Tech when we rolled up more than 500yds of offense including 400yds passing, 42 points and Tech still won. Blind squirrels seem to live a long time, especially in St. Simons. But I am Pessimist Pete for this game. I fully expect our D to look flummoxed at times, and Rennie Curran, all 205 lbs of him, sweating to make every tackle because there is no one else doing it. Where would we be without the mighty mite?

So I will take a steady improvement. Do what Arky and Missy State did, hold them to barely 20+ points. Score a couple of touchdowns in real football time (not in the last 5 minutes of a meaningless game). Make Tebow work for it, not let him have a day where he looks like a Garcia, Crompton or Mallett against us. For once, beat the Vegas line in a big game. It won’t be a moral victory, but at least if we have some passion and heart, it will mean I won’t automatically write us off for the rest of the games.

Seeing as I’m just south of 30, I know there’s been more than a few iterations.

There’s the ones with Martin Landau. The ones with Leonard Nimoy. And then the ones I remember from the 80s with Phil Morris, who’s far more famous as his character from Seinfeld, the super-lawyer, Jackie Chiles.

At the outset of my remarks, you need know that I am a longtime Georgia fan. Saw my first game 70 years ago. Went this year to the LSU game as I live in another state mid-way cross country. I bleed Red and Black, I’ve recruited for us, I’ve given money to the AA, I’ve served on the Alumni Association’s Board and I am G-E-O-R-G-I-A through and through. But I didn’t buy American cars when I saw they were carelessly, stupidly and nonchalantly assembled. I had one that required five seperate transmission, all under warranty. No mas for me. And I’m not buying this football version of an American car either because it is a piece of junk and operates only intermittenly and always inconsistently. And remmber this will be the fourth straight year that we have not won the East.

No staff deserves to remain that has our team in last place in many categories in the SEC and has us in triple digits when it comes to its defensive performance and turnovers. Those kinds of stats or for other teams, not us, not Georgia. But alas they are.

And I, unlike many others, do not belileve it is all Willie. Oh to be sure he is a big contributor but last year’s shellacking was caused in great part .by our offense which proved to be inept even with three first/second NFL round choces populating our “juggernaut.”

I must and will be honest about my feelings. We need to lose and get on to anothe life. We are a train wreck. And why anyone wants to spare CMR is beyond my ken. Why? He’s presided over a fall off year-to-year beginning in 2005 and he’s never made a change in the coaching staff.

Saban has been at Bamma two years plus and he got a new DC and OC. All our crowd of Bozos are in tack. And to be honest, this guy Richt should be ashamed of himself because of the situation with the guy who got canned for some kind of automotive violation this week. He should have been suspended because he violated Richt’s own rules. When you make exceptions like this, it is dangerous to do for you lose control of your team (he’s lost control of it anyway) because the kids know that there are one set of rules for one group and another set of rules for certain individuals. What kind of coach is it that does that? I’ll tell you: One who’s damn well feelilng the heat despite his protestations to the contrary. He knows the Bulldawg nation is up in arms and he’s feeling it and he should!!!!!

Someone pointed out today that this would not happen were we playing Tennessee Tech Saturday. The kid would have been suspended but brought back in time for Auburn. What a hypocrite Preacher Richt is and he’s a bad coach too. The hierarchy of the SEC has passed him by. Mies, SAban and Meyer have won National Championships in half the time that Richt has been at Georgia!!And the brat in Knoxville whipped up something awful on us and ground MR’s face in the turf. That was not a fluke as the Alabama game showed a Tennessee team that played hard, much improved from last year and on the ups while we pass them silently like ships in the night on our way to obscurity. They are on their way to making a mark in the conference.

What’s acceptable to me is nothing less than losing and losing big. I cry when I read my own words but only disaster creates changes and a win over Florida, as unlikely as I think that is, would only prolong the agony of this inept coach and his equally if not more inept staff.

He’s chosen two coordinators who had little experience for what they do. My bet is he still calls the plays deluding himself that he is some kind of ace offensive genius. He isn’t. We have a moribund, unimaginative offense with an immobile QB, valiant as he is, who will not be able to get out of the way of the ferocious rush of the hard-charding Gators.

There’s no way that I see us winning though I’ve been to enough Florida games to know that most anything can happen.

Our program needs a cleaning out from top-to-bottom. The only way that happens is for us to lose to Florida and Auburn or Tech. Maybe Richt won’t get the axe but others will or else there will be a revolution in Georgia and the money boys will stop giving dinero. And you know what happens then. Ask Jim Donnan.

I’m not sure he won’t quit if told that he needs to make changes. He may be loyal to a fault. I don’t know the man. But if Damon says change and say I’m not going to do so, then there you have it. That, in my view, is not an improbable scenario.

It pains me to say this but Urban Meyer can do us a hellevu favor by beating hell out of us Saturday. And I hope he does. In the words of an American colonial era war hero: “If this be treason, make the most of it.”

An ‘acceptable’ outcome would be, win or lose, that we stand toe-to-toe with ‘em and smash ‘em in the mouth on every play and that bust Saint Timothy’s butt every time he handles the ball…that we get an ‘even shake’ from the officials (no bad calls on us and no ‘non calls’ for Florida)…that no matter the score Georgia fans stay put in the stands and defy any gaytor to get in your face…that Urbana (is that the feminine of Urban?) is caught on camera several times trying (unsuccessfully as in ‘07) to rally a gaytor team that’s gettin it’s tail whipped and/or mouthin’ ‘Oh my God’ at what Georgia’s doing to his team on the field…that UGA ‘tailgaters’ are BBQin gaytor-tails (preferably a full-sized, skinned, Florida alligator)…that Mr. Two Bits – assuming he’s still alive – has a heat-stroke and has to spend the day in the infirmary…that Florida is so damn far behind in the second half that there’s nobody left to sing that damn ‘we are the boys of old Fla-ra-da’ thing…that Saint Timothy tries to do the gayter chomp in Jeff Owens face and dislocates his shoulder…that Georgia fans party til’ dawn – or Monday – and drive home safely.

Yeah, that would be an ‘acceptable outcome’…not that I’m predicting it, but for starters it’s acceptable.

Mark, the Dawgs quit last year! I never saw a Dooley team quit. Erk Russell never had a def. team lay down. They would walk thru fire for him. Willies players may have a short burst of energy, but that’s about it. Van Gorders Def. was also tuff. Someone said the players have to be scaried of the boss. I think respectful is the word. Respectful that he knows what he is talking about. I think the players without a doubt know Martinze doesn’t have a clue half the time. He can coach good against some teams. But against top talent like Paul Johnson. He is lost and has little chance because everyone knows he CANT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS! Richt knows it, but his being a buddy overrules his devotion to his fans and employers! Sad but that’s the facts, lookem up! Evans needs to help give Richt the reasons to make the right decisions. Or, have the guts to cut his pay in line with his performance. Also his assistants PAY! Can you imagine the headline “Football coaches at UGA get Pay CUT not increase”. I would give about anything to see Martinez gone. What he has cost the Georgia program is unreal. He’s about the main reason we’ve sunk like the Titanic. He is the poorest college coach I’ve ever seen. I’m so sick and tired of CMR’s spin and excuses and covering poor performances. I have been a total MR supporter but his actions toward his coaches are slowly eating away at my feelings for him and the Georgia program. Can you say unranked? Can you say at the bottom of most stats? Can you say having to score in the 30’s to even have a chance at winning? Can you say no longer feared and looked on as a second tier program? Can you say CMR has allowed the Georgia program to experience a plunge because of his loyalty and friendship to his assistant coaches and coordinators? I’ll tell you what will be done after this season…. NOTHING!!!!! CMR is already telling recruits that Willie Martinez will be back …. if he comes back …. stick a fork in our program … it’s done.

MARK, could you give CMR a call and verify if recruits are being told Willie will return? If CMR tells recruits he will return … CMR will honor his word and no matter what happens Willie will be back for another fisco….

These coaching changes should have been made last year .The Dawg nation were given one excuse after another. If CMR claims that he does not have the talent as the other schools in the S.E.C.they need to fire him on the spot. Just on the basis’s of stupidity alone.

Bradley’s question is one of those that doesn’t deal in reality so it really is mute to begin with. Losing is unacceptable. Martinez’ defense has been unacceptable all season (and last). Bobo’s offense and Searles’ o-line have been unacceptable as well. The outcome of this one game shouldn’t change anyone’s evaluation of the state of UGA’s football program. Truthfully, the only way I can see UGA winning is if Florida turns the ball over multiple times and beats themselves. Florida has looked vulnerable the last few weeks because the teams they played either have good defenses (which UGA doesn’t) or good offenses (which UGA doesn’t). No, UF doesn’t look like a team that will hang 50 points on you and leave you in the dust, but they don’t have to because they have a defense that can dominate you (Willie take notes please). I think UGA loses a closer one than the line because UF’s offense is pedestrian but ours is worse. UF 27 – UGA 17

In the macro sense, there is no “acceptable” loss, as this will UGA 3-17 against UF in the last 20. There’s not THAT much disparity between the resources and talents of the two schools. Simply put, the difference has been coaching. And UGA administrators and fans have not demanded the best in coaching over the last two decades. The results of this complacency have been horrific.

Until UGA fans and administration demand nothing but the very best, the results against UF and other top schools will continue to disappoint. (And don’t even get me started on the contrast between UGA and UF basketball over the last 20 years.)

The criticism of Willie is totally misplaced. He has done the best he could and he didn’t twist Richt’s arm to get the job. The criticism should be placed squarely on Richt, who hired him and has kept him. Here is the problem:

Trailing by a 7 and with a first-and-goal at the 1, host Georgia had time for at least two and most likely three passing attempts. But Richt decided to run Jasper S(t)anks. He was stuffed for no gain and time ran out on Georgia.

Points scored by Richt’s offense vs the four major teams-SC,UT,UF,AU- that UGA plays every year and that know Richt’s offense.
17-6-17-9-10-13-18-13-13-20-14-17-10-18-14-12-14-14-10-19=65% scores 20 or less

Unless UGA shuts down the Florida offense and then goes on to defensively dominate the rest of their opponents, I suspect that CMR will make a change to a new defensive coordinator next season. I doubt they would make a change at both offensive and defensive coordinator during the same offseason. They have too many good athletes on the team. Just with their athletes alone, they should be able to defensively challenge my beloved YellowJackets.

It’s been a very odd year seeing UGA play below their level of talent. Mark Richt seems like a compassionate and classy guy. But compassionate and classy just doesn’t seem to cut it in football…as many folks have noted on AJC blogs prevously. They need to hire or recruit and Erk Russell type coach (Dang, he was good!!) or David Pollick type player to motivate that team and bring out the energy. Maybe they could hire David Pollick as an assistance coach in hopes of creating a spark. They need to do something.

I hope they rebound against Florida and play the rest of the season like the Bulldogs of old. I don’t want them to beat Tech, but I want it to be a good battle. This state should have two highly ranked teams for several seasons to come…maybe even a few national championships between the two schools. It’s CMR’s time to step up and get things back on track. They really need a victory in Jacksonville.

I predict the scholar athletes from the University of Georgia will triumph over the scholar athletes from the University of Florida in a rather heated debate over the role of string theory in modern cosmology and subatomic physics. Look for some really pithy comments related to the Higgs boson from the UGA side.

With Dawg teams of years past, I would have said that a ‘moral victory’ doesn’t exist in our vocabulary. Are we now at the point that we know we don’t have a chance to win games and we will settle for a ‘moral victory’ and feel good with it??? I will not feel good about any loss. But given that we are most likely going to lose this one, I would at least like to see us play Florida on the level that Tennessee did. I would like to see our offense score some points (with the run and pass), put pressure on Tebow most of the game, not collapse in the 3rd or 4th quarter, not get a lot of penalties, not have any turnovers, see our O line blocking for runs, and not see any more childish calls by our coaching staff. I guess that’s a tall order to still not win.

A win is acceptable unlikely as it is.I don’t think Coach Martinez should be retained even if we shut Florida out.But there will probably be arguments made for him if we they score less than 30.We should never hope for a loss in any case ESPECIALLY against Florida. The fact is the people who write to this blog(including me) don’t know half as much as they need to know (or half as much as Coach Richt knows) to determine who should be fired. I’ve said it before: the fans who call for Coach Richt’s ouster don’t know the history of Georgia football. They are spoiled by the success Coach Richt brought us:No SEC title since 82, no division title even until he arrived. Tied for best record in the SEC 1999-2009. I know Coach Donnan was in Athens the first two of those years. Comparing Richts’s recent record to Donnan’s latter record is cooking the books. You have to look at what Georgia has always been and everything Coach Richt brought us his entire tenure. If Coach Richt stubbornly clings to Coach Martinez after we lose 2 or 3 more and get embarrassed by Florida and or Tech and then we have an equally embarrassing year next year the we have to consider the possibility that Coach Richt has lost his grip and is not in touch with reality. Whether Damon will let it get to that point or not I don’t know.Damon’s opinion is the only one that counts in any case. We can all see that our talent has not been coached up recently. A pity that.History suggests that we can upset Florida. I was at the game in 1965 when we upset Bear Bryant with the flea-flicker. But that was a miracle. It will take another miracle to win tomorrow. Let’s hope it happens.

The record heat and a relentless sun cause the black out with the Bible verses on his face to run into Tebow’s eyes and make him as blind as Paul on the road to Damascus at a critical juncture and he throws yet another pick six and Ga wins late.

Anything less than a win is just a loss. Even when things seem lost, play to win and expect a miracle. It’s happened before and it can/will happen again.

Changes MUST be Made

October 30th, 2009
8:03 am

The only acceptable results is giving up 40+ points, no matter what UGA’s offense scores. UF must pour it on and take Willie to the woodshed. Richt can be given NO excuses for trying to keep Willie and a win by UGA with low points given up would be the excuse he is looking for. It hurts to watch this year, but I better not see anything better than 6-6 this year. I (and every other UGA fan I know agrees) am willing to suffer short term pain (this year) for long terms gain (many years to come)- which means getting real coaches in here on D from next season onwards. We are all willing to sacrifice this season to get the progam back where it should be.

If the season had turned out differently for Florida and they were crushing teams by 30, I’d say keeping it close with this team would be ideal.

But Florida is barely beating teams. They lose to Arkansas but somehow the refs penalize Arky to a Florida victory. They struggled with Miss. State big time. They struggled with Tennessee.

This is not the same Florida team that had Percy Harvin and a couple of other breakout receivers.

Georgia has had two weeks to prepare for this game. Florida has played several tough games in a row. Monte Kiffin layed the blueprint out there on how to stop Florida.

It’s there for Georgia to win. A victory is all that’s acceptable.

A acceptable result Saturday? The Dawgs don’t have to prevail by 39 points. Heck, they don’t even have to win. An honorable acquittal of their collective football character would be nice after last year’s buggering.

I’ve been a UGA fan (not fanatic) my whole life. Never in that time have I seen the Dawgs humiliated – make that emasculated – like they were last year. Now that unpleasant spectacle appears to be a watershed moment for Georgia football – It’s when we lost our credibility as an elite program.

Last year’s loss was the result of many things – not the least of which that Florida was just flat a better team with better coaches and superior talent. That explains a loss, but it doesn’t excuse what Georgia allowed Florida to do to them last year in front of a national TV audience.

Anybody can lose, but your opponent can humiliate you only if you let him. UGA let the Gators have their way with them last year. They were totally unprepared from every possible angle to play that game – and their ignoble effort will live in Dawg infamy.

I haven’t seen anything in the 2009 bunch that leads to believe this year’s outcome will be much different than last.

We’ll see.

I just don’t get CMR’s reluctance to bench non-performing starters. He has athletes that he recruited from all over the country who are dying to play, yet he refuses to use the bench effectively. Put the chumps on the pine, CMR. Have a little faith in your recruits – if there’s ever a time to try out some new players, this is it (and by “players,” I mean quarterbacks. And yes, I know I’m being somewhat disloyal to Cox, since we’re both from Charlotte). CMR’s main mission: to win football games. That’s it.

At the same time, I want a HC that can make appropriate realizations about the state of the program. If UGA were to shut UF out that wouldn’t signal that the D is revived.

Here what happens. CWM plays it his way until the fire gets white hot. From there he’ll go outside his personal comfort zone and blitz a little, just enough, to make it appear as thought the D has improved. Then back to Williville. All with Richt’s blind blessing.

Gordon, that is what comes of hiring your college roommate as your defensive coordinator. After Tebow and UF put 40 plus on us again, via hitting uncovered wide recievers and tight ends, average backs gaining 10-12 yards on draw plays and last but not least Tebow converting 5 or 6 3rd and 3’s by running up the middle, maybe Richt or at least Damon Evans with have the nads to send Willie packing. UGA wins if Cox throws ZERO picks, which hasn’t happened this year in any game and the D sacks Timmy 6 times or more, stuffs the middle and makes them throw it. Keeping Percy and Louis in the NFL and not allowing them to suit up would help as well.

I’ll be satisfied with a victory, but proud of our players no matter what. They work hard and seem to have more fight than they did last year, for whatever reason. My guess is that they are playing more like a team than a support system for Moreno and Stafford…who let them down in the end.

But I have given up on the coaches. They are paid handsomely to do their job, and in my opinion (since you asked for it) they are failing the players and the University of Georgia. Coach Richt has put his loyalty in his college roommate, Willie Martinez, a man who has consistently failed as a DC, over a university with one of the longest winning traditions in the history of college football; a university who will pay him $2.8 million next year. He’ll probably exhibit the same loyalty to Bobo, who still hasn’t proven himself as an OC. We either let great coordinators get away or refuse to hire better.

I’m convinced Richt’s a nice guy and a family man. I’m also convinced the University of Georgia needs a new head coach.

So, who are you more loyal to as fans? Mark Richt, who has been coaching at UGA for less than 10 years, or UGA? The university that’s been playing college football since 1892.

If every single college football coach was fired for losing a few games, we would end up with musical chairs college football style. Just be patient with Richt, he has built a solid program and now that a few kinks have appeared you guys want to fire him? FIRE? really? Let him work it out, give the man a chance to work out the kinks and bring the team back to its reputation. One bad year people, is it too much for you to handle? I am a half-blind homer.

Georgia is still an elite program, but this year just a mediocre team.

Dawgs are young, inexperienced, injured, and poorly coached, especially on defense and special teams.

CMR gave his word to a recruit that Willie would be back next year and we all know Coach is nothing if not a man of his word. So, Willie will be back. Hopefully as the DB coach and not the DC.

A disturbing trend I have noticed over the last few years in recruiting is the big uglies…..6′6″ 210lb DEs…6′2″ 200lb LBs…..6′5″ 260lb OL…5′9″ 165lb CBs? It seems we recruit more for future potential than what can be contributed next year.

As for Florida they are only hitting on 7 cylinders on offense but clicking on defense. They can be taken but only if you play a perfect game. Our only chance is to make their offense one dimensional. Stop Timmy from running and make him pass to beat you. If we cannot get a pass rush though, it won’t matter, he’ll eat us alive. Urban & co. have watched the SC, ARK, and UT games and know that they can kill us with the bootleg and the pass to the TE.

Dawgs hit Timmy in the mouth early…kick 4 50 yard field goals…pick six Timbo late….play their best defensive game of the year, and squeek out a 19-17 win.

“Moral victories” are only acceptable for South Carolina fans. A win, whether it is by 1 point or 50, is the only outcome that is acceptable for me and any real Georgia fan.

As to the Willie issue; last year was the year Richt should have fired Willie. If Richt keeps Willie after this season; Richt should be fired regardless of his record or how “nice” he is. Keeping Willie after this season would be proof that Richt no longer cares about Georgia being an elite program, and that Richt is only interested in the paycheck and keeping his friends employed. I have been concerned since after the Florida game in 08′ that Richt is not tough enough to win big. Richt spent the entire offseason after the 08′ win apologizing for the celebration. He should have said “I’m glad I did it, and I hope we can do it again next year”. Richt came across as afraid of Meyer and Florida, and I don’t want a wuss as a head coach.

Georgia football is in big trouble right now, and if Richt doesn’t make some big coaching changes he needs to go.

1st there is no such thing as a “moral” victory. A loss is a loss period. Only losers go around saying, “Wow! we ALMOST won!”

However Mark, you do bring up an interesting question, and it’s a “lesser of two evils”.
-Lose big to the gators and guarantee a new DC
-Win and risk as Bug Killer pointed out- CMR “being able to point to this game as reason he refuses to fire Martinez”

I know a lot of people are calling for Bobo’s head as well, but I don’t think he’s as much of the problem as Willie, and will be better with A.Murray at QB next year.

That being said I think the best case scenario is a UGA win with a 42-38 kind of score, but I’ve got a better chance at winning the lottery than seeing that score this weekend.

For any of this to happen Willie would have to actually go away from his stale cookie-cutter one-size-fits-all SOFT zone defense and put together an ACTUAL game plan. Like Crompton said, “We got the right play calls because we knew what they were going to do.”

The best scenario for UGA (albeit unlikely) is that UGA wins in a shootout similar to the ARK/USC games and the Martinez defense gives up 30+ points.

If you root for a loss to get rid of an assistant coach, turn in all your red and black gear and anything with a big “G” on it because you are not worthy of calling yourself a DAWG.

Richt will do the right thing regarding Martinez.
Richt is not going to FSU.
Fisher has already got his entire staff lined up for next year and they will all be his guys. Bobby will be there in name only. Not pretty but it is what it is.
Richt wants to stay in Athens. Who do you think is going to win in the end, his family or his friend?

Martinez will get demoted or he will resign if Richt evaluates the defense over the entire year as being poor.

Those of you fellow fans who continue to harp on CMR’s “total body of work” are simply WRONG. It’s that type of loyalty that has caused CMR to take this program on a nose dive by keeping poor coaches and starting poor QB’s. I submit that keeping CMR and replacing his staff will not correct the attitude problem on this team: TURNOVERS, PENALTIES instead of tackling and good play calling. We need a ruthless leader. CMR is anything but. .

Mark:
Rationalizing losing to Florida in the hope that it might force a defensive coaching change next year ought to be incomprehensible to any real Dawg fan. Aside from foolish decisions that risk aggravating player injuries, winning today’s game fairly is all that matters. Any coach knows that you don’t play today’s game with one eye focused on next week. That’s a great way to guarantee losing today. When we play Florida, nobody in that stadium is going to be thinking about Auburn or Tech, even though loosing to Florida might help make Auburn or Tech overconfident and brighten those prospects. Why would any serious fan go into a game rationalizing losing today as somehow brightening tomorrow? Save that nonsense for Sunday morning. Who knows; you may not need it.

Program’s headed in the wrong direction, dysfunction on the team, sub-par assistant coaches, season’s in the can. Would rather have another embarrassing loss at least to a better team this time and hope that the bloodbath will finally result in a completely new defensive staff (it’d be OK if Martinez were demoted to secondary coach and Fabris took over the entire DL), a dedicated ST coach and new OC.

The only acceptable outcome is for Georgia to win and still have Martinez fired at the end of the year but Florida will roll and Georgia will appear to be on its way to 6-6 with Martinez headed out the door. But wait, Georgia beats Auburn and thus finishes 7-5 and goes to on to win its low tier bowl game(with a defensive production not seen all year) and ends the year at 8-5 and Martinez saves his job for one more year. Next year then is another total disaster. Thanks Auburn!!!!

I love how people are talking about a ‘pedestrian’ offense for UF. Yes, they do have problems when in the red zone but they don’t have one between the 20’s. They are ranked #8 nationally in total offense while UGA is ranked #70 in total defense. UGA is also ranked 90th in total offense. Florida is #22 in 3rd down conversion while UGA is is #62. Florida is also #7 in first downs with only Texas ranked higher (#5) and Georgia at a pedestrian #110 out of 120 teams! BTW, none of the top 10 have better 3rd-down stats than Florida. It takes more than a bye-week to turn UGAs problems around but the Gators only need to throw the ball or run it in for a score from the 25-yard line to fix their redzone problems – just don’t go into it! Mark, I’m a torn human being if I toil over this. As a long time Dawg, I’m deeply dissappointed in how the Dawgs have played so inconsistently during the last few years. As I’ve said many times before I can accept a loss, if we show up to play. Far to many times we haven’t appeared to be prepared to play.

I’m mad over the fact that there have been NO adjustments to the staff with all the problems we’ve seen. CMR is accountable. I’ve said before the supporters have the power, aka, $$$ that help support the program. It’s unrealistic to think that long time supporters will not contribute and buy the precious few season tickets. So what do we do? We get on here and blog our thoughts but they have a very weak arm. The fastest way to get change is to send a letter to Damon threatenting to withhold our $$$ if the product they are going to give us is lip service vs a consistently well prepared, competetive, well coached football team.

CMR, at least to me, comes across as almost arrogant, definitely defensive at the state of the program. A clear non biased view from my perspective shows a program in shambles.

Regardless of how this game turns out, and I will cheer on the Dawgs, I expect change. Without it, I will give up my seat next year. I’m not calling for CMR to be relieved, just for him to earn his $2.8 salary.

Action, not noise will force Richt to make the changes so many see that are necessary. Again, we’ve been passed by UA, UF, and UT. We’re on the same level as USC, UK, with the status quo. Change has come to UT, Ole Miss, Miss St, AU, and ARK. There’s no excuse I want to hear any more.

IF UGA did win, then, they would lay down vs a KY. Such is the truth when we discuss UGA. The players are not together in any game. Lousy attitudes. Lousy play ( see #9 and # 3 )

Too little too late would be my comment if we did win. It ain’t gonna happen.

Entire staff including Richt need to move on. Next year, with the same running backs, the same problem at Qb ( inexperience ) and the same defense and the same coaches, UGA will be in the same boat. Richt has taken this ship as far as he can. He is 100% pre occupied with personal issues.

We need to implement changes now in 2009. 2010 will be the same if not. Two years in the Independence Bowl vs a NC State or an NC is simply too much to stomach.

The end zone dance in 07 pretty much sealed the Dawgs fate for the next 20 years. That stupid little celebration is going to be bulletin board fodder for generations to come. Our children’s, children will look back on that infamous day and say WHY!!!!
The Dawgs cannot compete and will not compete for any SEC titles until Willie figures out (or gets fired) that the zone read defense just isn’t going to cut it anymore in the SEC. Now that Saban, Kiffin and Myer are running these spread and NFL style offenses.
The Dawgs have the athletes to compete but they lack the leadership and coaches that other teams have. Don’t get me wrong CMR is one of the greatest human beings walking the earth, outstanding family man, great for the community. But he needs to put personal feelings aside and clean house at the end of the season or he may be packing up himself.
And let’s not forget about the king of the screen pass OC Bobo. He needs to cast a bronze statue of AJ Green (the best receiver in the country) at his house for making him look like he knows a little bit about what he is doing this year.
If the worst rated QB in the SEC, Jonathan Crompton can have a career day against the Dawgs. What do you think Superman; I mean Tebow is going to do to that defense. Let’s just hope that they don’t hang half a hundred on them.

Just something to think about…

After the LSU game a friend of mine and I where discussing what is going on with the
program and clearly there is something missing.

We have no David Pollack, Quentin Moses, Marcus Howard, Boss Bailey, Odell Thurman, Thomas Davis, Greg Blue, etc. to hit you in the mouth and put the fear of God into the opposing “O”. We have no Musa Smith, Thomas Brown, or Knowson Moreno to pound the ball. We have no Ben Watson, Leonard Pope, or Randy McMichael. We have no Jon Stinchcomb, Kevin Breedlove, Max Jean-Gilles, Russ Tanner, or Fernando Velasco getting nasty down in the trenches and putting a beat down on the opposing “D”.

I believe the biggest problem with Georgia is that our “killer instinct” voice and motivator is gone…Coach Van Gorder. That attitude/focus transcended the whole team and gave the whole team some identity and swagger. When you think about it, the last group that spent anytime with him was the senior class of ‘07(they were freshman in ‘04, BVG last season). As far as the defense goes last two years have been all Coach Martinez’s boys. Coach Richt is a great man but he is also the gentle one and does not appear to be the one who will “kick you in the a..” when needed or keep the throttle down when you are up on the other team. We need another Van Gorder minded coach to balance the malaise running through the program. Reminds me of Bobby Cox and the Braves.

This team is soft and the program has been soft for some time. They are not committed to the run enough, which has been mentioned ever since this staff was in place (remember Tuberville’s comments to Richt after the ‘01 game). When Ealey came in a gave a spark, how do you not ride that horse for the rest of the game. Play calling makes no sense anymore with this program.

Don’t get me wrong, we have some of the best coaches in the nation and I am not saying to throw the baby out with the bath water but something must change soon.

Quote: An acceptable loss will show improvement on both sides of the ball, heart, fire and leadership.

The team showed much of that this season but they were outcoached. The team fought LSU and UT until the end.

Monte showed the blueprint on how to beat UF?

No CWM did 2 years ago and this UF team is looking much the same. The difference is UGA has no offense to score. Bobo had 6 3 and outs to LSU and another 6 to UT. UF has a better defense this year than 2 years ago as well as UT or LSU.

I agree with postr above I see UF getting 27 to 35 and UGA getting 3 or 6 in a boring long trainwreck UF never looks like a #1 offense and UGA looking like a mid tier team. If a TD is scored it is from a kick return or defense running back a turnover.

All that said I hope UGA somehow pulls the miracle and Bobo and CWM have come up with creative ways to win the game launching this UGA team like the ‘06 victory over Auburn. (Yes I know it is unlikely but thats the dream)

I believe the question was get a win and maybe keep Willie, or lose and be rid of him? I hope they destroy us and in the process score 50+. I want a new DC! Keeping Willie will do far more long term damage to our program than yet another thrashing at the hands of the Gators in Jacksonville.

I wish I had enough faith in Coach Richt to make objective decisions about our DC (and other staff issues) with or without a win in Jacksonville. I am steadfastly behind Coach Mark Richt, but I feel unfortunately that he will likely seek to use this game (should we win) to try an politic his way out of making some obviously needed changes. Namely WILLIE!!!!! I really hate that I feel this way, but I do.

Of course I will be happy if we win. The players work hard and deserve it.

To ‘The Truth’:

I don’t make $2.8M a year and you probably don’t either. It’s a totally different ballgame. Since he’s no longer calling plays, preferring to be the CEO of the team (the term that even Richt has used) instead. Well, if you’re the head coach/CEO and you aren’t calling plays, then it’s now your job to fire the play caller if they aren’t performing. And if the head coach/CEO isn’t doing their job, then the head coach needs to be reconsidered.

That’s nearly $3M walking out the door of my alma mater every year. For those figures, I expect UGA to AT LEAST be a serious contender for the NC. And is it too much to ask to start beating FLA on a regular basis? I remember the 80s. Good times. If UGA will hire a guy SPECIFICALLY to beat FLA, I guarantee you that we start playing for and winning some NCs. I don’t think Richt has the fire or knows how to coach/handle/manage a power football team.

I will personally be shocked if we stay within 20 of this team. A struggling offense just needs to play our D and problem solved. They’ll have receivers making plays all over the field and our offense may not reach the red zone, unless we get a turnover or have a big punt return. Cox isn’t mobile enough for this D so I hope the OL is ready. This will be sickening. There shouldn’t be this big of a gap between these 2 programs. Mark Bradley, you Sir have come with some tough questions today. I think the score of this game will be around the 24-20 you picked. I just really don’t know who will have the 24. As for the question in regards to a win of #1 UF vs. another year of CWM… That is a tough one. Beating UF whether they are #1 or whatever they are ranked is priceless considering the history the past 20 years or so. If a loss is to insure that CWM is gone (I know that’s not what you are saying) I would have to take the loss in blowout fashion. I just don’t think this game will factor into CWM’s employment. I think games such as UK, AUB, and Tech will have more bearing there.

In my heart, I think UGA has a chance at the upset. In my mind also. Look, UGA is battle tested. We have played one of if not the toughest schedule to date. UF has had it pretty easy with only LSU team as a formible foe. UF also is not clicking on all cylinders on offense. As well as the defense has played, who is it to say that the UF D will not hit a wall this weekend. This UF team looks tired and begging for a Bye week. The biggest 2 factors in this game is UF cannot score TDs in the RZ, while UGA plays its best D inside the RZ. That will be hige in this game if those 2 trends continue.

75Dawg

October 30th, 2009
10:09 am

I think all the talk of coaching changes et al does absolutely nothing to help the program that we as UGA fans all cherish. Just let it go until after the last play of the last game and then I am quite confident it will be dealt with appropriately.

As for the game, no doubt we are prohibitive underdogs. I do think the week off gives us a definite advantage/plus. Will it be enough to pull the unthinkable or even keep it close — heck, who knows. I don’t think Florida is nearly the team they were last year — not even close. I think Bama would man handle them if they were playing this week. But, they are still better than us on paper by a comformtable margin.

I predicted on a message board frequented by many that we would be 8-4 or 7-5 before the season. I stand by that — unfortunately that could be in jeopardy also. I am not satisfied with the program at this moment but I am patient enough to realize that this staff has done some really good things and I am not willing to throw them over the cliff just yet.

They love him, just like booger fingers Cox, we’ll never get this guy outta there.

The only acceptable result ever is a victory. I doubt a victory is forthcoming and no that loss is not and never will be acceptable. There are no moral victories in football.

We pay our coaches very well to win. When they cannot provide victorious results then something has got to be done to change that!

Sometimes one has to lose a fight in order to win the war. I am proud of the 07-08 Basketball Dawgs for their SEC tournament win. The problem was there was no way of getting rid of the moustache after that miraculous feat. So UGA had to endure more time with a guy that wasn’t able to cut it as a coach in the SEC. Same goes for tomorrow. If we blow them out, I will be hysterically happy! But, it will mean no shakeup in the coaching staff, and therefore at LEAST another year of mediocrity. A beat down loss would mean CMR would have to make a coaching change. Do not want a loss, but I sure would rather win the war! Go Dawgs!

If you can’t russ the passer and you can’t run block, you can’t win against good teams. Our D-line and Safety play are just not SEC caliber for whatever reason. I like our corners and LB’s along with the offensive skill players but that’s not enough in a tough league like the SEC.

When I went to Georgia getting a forestry degree was like being Governor. I studied hard and learned my trees and I realized trees is a lot like football. That’s how I came up with some of the defenses I sent Coach Willie. If a tree is in the way you have to run around it. Get a grip, people! You sound like the Kentucky basketball fans who ran off Tubby Smith. One hand, a win. Richt is 2-7 against Florida. The road to the SECC goes through Jacksonville and soon Knoxville as well. Florida struggled against 2 sub average teams so if we get blown out that’s all the more unacceptable.

On the other hand, I hope our outmatched assistants get exposed once again. Predictable play calling + inability to make adjustments + poor preparation + poor discipline = UGA football since ‘05.

Walsh and Butler will come up huge in this game. Field position will be important. Butler will need to punt them deep and make UF go 80 for points. Walsh will have oppurtunities for some long FGs; I don’t see UGA scoring alot of TDs on this UF Defense.

Also, early in the game UGA needs to go deep to Green and or King. Open up the underneath for #4 King and #7 Charles. The TE post route needs to make a return to the UGA Offense. If Charles is damaging the middle in the first half of this game, then as one person predicted, AJ will go for 10 and 100 yds. I am not even looking at the run game, it will be a non factor. Our run game will be short quick hitters to RB, FB, and WR. We may pop an occasional run, but nothing consistent enough to believe in. Charles in the TE post is key in this game.

As for defense, UGA needs to crowd the box with a 8 man front. Dare UF to go up top and beat us. Yeah, I know our secondary sucks, but it is not like Tebow is making 30 yard Comp at will. Thay have no verticle game. Crowd the box and do not let Tebow run 4 yard dive plays all afternoon. I say go 4-3 and walk #9 Jones down in the box. Jones or Dewberry needs to be in Hernandez’s ear hole all day. Hernandez is the key to their passing offense.

nemov, since I wasn’t sure which “good defenses” you were referring to, I thought I’d keep it to just SEC opposition and the yards of total offense for UF: TN – 323; KY-495; LSU-327; ARK-391; MISSst-376. How much better in total yards offense is required to win a game? Last I checked they’ve done that seven times this year. So where does UGA stand on the scale of similar opponents: TN-241; LSU-274; ARK-530. If you want to see how the two defenses faired I can show you that too but your argument isn’t going anywhere so far.

Only stupid redneck trash want Mark Richt fired, Bradley. Unfortunately internet is a widely available commodity these days.

You’ll not find a single fan that is an actual GRADUATE of the University of Georgia that wants to see Mark Richt fired. That is possibly the single dumbest assertion I’ve ever heard (other than that one about the public option being an affordable answer to health care reform).

To answer your original question: I’ve never been one for moral victories. A close loss would be better than a blowout loss, but it would still be a loss, and I don’t feel that we could project that we played that much better. After all, Arkansas and MSU have given the Gators all they can handle… I would hope we could at least match their efforts. That said, there is no way on God’s green earth that I would EVER hope for a loss, so that my opinionated wishes that a certain assistant be fired come true. That is selfish and wrong. (And Dawg fan, if you’re reading this and you are one of those hoping for a loss, please take all your Georgia clothing and memorabilia and drop it off at the goodwill. You don’t deserve it. )

I do think staff changes are coming, but the bottom line is that I trust coach Richt to make the best decision for the team. How shortsighted is it to question the man who has taken UGA to heights that it hasn’t seen since the days of Herschel? It is embarrassing to me, both as a graduate and a fan, that these discussions are even happening. We have one of the top coaches in America. Countless schools would kill to have Mark Richt head of their program. Don’t forget that people. We’re having a tough year. It happens to the best of them. Get over it.

Richt might hi jack the program under a weak regime. But Evans and Adams are not weak. I believe they are no one to mess around with and if Richt thinks otherwise he will have to pay the piper. If a CEO, (and Richt has admitted he’s no longer Coach, just a CEO), messes up he has to answer to the Shareholders, ie fans, alumn, season ticket holders. Remember, prices have been jacked up to the HILT, because Ga is a top rated team. Well, they aren’t anymore. Can anyone say, REFUND!

I’m not calling for CMR’s head, just for him to make the necessary changes. If as you patient types say, change will come at the end of the year I can live with that. What if it doesn’t? Can you live with that? Of course we can, will we be satisfied with that?

If Florida doesn’t fumble the ball (keeping fingers crossed) and thow any easy pics (praying hard) then player for player in terms of talent, there is no way Florida will lose this game. But it is Halloween night and the spooks come out to play …

As for Coach Richt. He is a great coach but he is too much like Ron Zook in terms that he wants to be the player’s friend. He needs to be their DI and enforce discipline. If you look at the recent series between UGA and UF .. that is the key difference. Florida has had three coaches who were very stern and disciplined their players. Georgia hasn’t been so fortunate.

Even though I am a Gator and have enjoyed the results of the last 19 years, I think your AD needs to start looking for a new coach. The coach who I think would be a great addition to the SEC is noneother than the current University of Buffalo Coach and former Nebraska star Gill Turner. Not only is he well spoken, a great coach, he would keep the talent in Georgia and take away talent from Georgia Tech. In order to be one of the best in the SEC, you have to be the best team in your state and at present, that is Georgia Tech.

GA has a ton of good players that can over come the coaching for this game and coach Meyer has nothing but good things to say about your front four on defense, he also thinks it’s a toss up for who the best wide receivers in the country is—-your #8 or Alabama’s #8 and your offensive line is big, strong and experienced.. That being said, the Gators will still need to help out with 4-5 turnovers and your defense/special teams must score some points. The Gator defense gets back four starters and is just too strong for the Dawg’s offense, unless they start inside the Gator 20. The Dawgs should be in the game unless the Gators score early from outside the red zone. If the Gators make the Dawgs one-dimensional and are forced to catch up passing, it could get ugly. To me, it’s a game that could go either way depending on turnovers.

Anyone that thinks Richt would bolt to FSU is nuts. He clearly loves Athens, and his young family loves it as well. No way he would uproot them to start all over in another city, even if he wanted the FSU job. It’s simply a bad year, nothing to get upset over. Every program goes through good and bad seasons. There is another view to take concerning the Georgia-Florida game. Most people have a short memory. In 2007, Georgia got clobbered by Tennessee 35-14 in Knoxville, barely beat Vandy 20-17 in Nashville, then stomped Florida 42-30.It can happen again, especially with two weeks to get ready. All the media hype about the mighty Gators is ridiculous.Georgia would be 5-2, (5-1 SEC) and Florida 6-1, (5-1 SEC) if not for the suspended refs.If Georgia and South Carolina both run the table, the Dawgs win the SEC East. The Georgia defense can play just as strong as Arkansas did against Florida. Coach Richt has only lost 4 games twice in the previous 8 seasons and will have his team ready for the upset.

Realistically, losing by no more than 30 points would be a moral victory of sorts by UGA. I play war games a lot, and sometimes one side is so over-matched that they’ll lose every time, so there are victory conditions where they can win if they keep the battle closer than it was in reality. That’s pretty much the situation in this year’s game with Florida.

It’s probably advantageous for UGA to get blown out, since that would result in more heat on the UGA athletic office to dump Richt or at the very least, force Martinez and Bobo out.

Hold richt accountable:

“If you are an actual accountant, then I ask:”

Yes, I’m a CPA, it’s not exactly a sexy blog name someone would fake.

“Would you recommend paying someone $3M to not do their job? Does that makes any sense from a business point of view?”

Richt’s job is to be competitive in the SEC most years and nationally sometimes. He’s done that.

“Yes, I have high standards. Richt didn’t make the tough decisions he needed to last year.”

Agreed – If I were Richt, I would have specific performance plans for the defensive and offensive coaching staffs. These would be specific to our schedule and personnel. For instance last year our defense didn’t have dominant personnel, but a 25 point per game average might have been reasonable. Martinez would have likely failed any such plan in 2008 and certainly is failing this year. Bobo would be on thin ice this year as well.

“The program is slipping.”
Disagree, the program is fine if a change is made in DC position.

“Do you honestly see major advances next year?”
Yes, with or without a new DC, our talent level next year is significantly more experienced and we’re losing few impact players, and we have an easier schedule.

“How many years before you’re satisfied that Richt can’t get it done?”
He’s earned 2 consecutive losing seasons of forgiveness from me with this kind of schedule.

Sad to say, the Dawgs will have enough turnovers, penalties, and brainfarts to shoot themselves in the foot too many times to have a chance to win. All of you know that Joe Cox is a Great QB when he is protected by his Offensive Line, and our “O” Line has been quite short since the Arkansas Game, after which Joe Cox was the named the Player of the Week by ESPN and everyone else, then we had a batch of “O” Line injuries. Hopefully our big guys can come back and support Joe like they did in the Arkansas Game. Sure, I would like to see Florida win the BCS Title two times in a Row, but our Bull Dogs come first, so I predict a Joe Cox and A.J Green pass show that will be unforgettable along with his other Receivers that includes his Fullbacks and Running Backs.

I’ve been reading of how FL is not the same (Offensive) team as years past but for some reason my gut tells me that will all change when they play CWM and his brand of D. How can one feel any different when UGA allows the likes of Compton to look like P. Manning and with one exception (Vandy) all our wins were very close. I feel this game w/FL will be no different from the other GA losses this season and the news mongers will again be writing that FL is back in form and score at will vs Willie’s D. I hope I’m wrong but I see no hope unless Willie does something different to confuse Tebow like MSU did last w/e.

As far as moving the ball vs FL D it’ll be difficult, maybe similar to the LSU game. A win would be terrific and make this season somewhat salvagable. However, winning would be a long shot and keeping it close may have to suffice. Either way, Willie will stay and if so GA’s woe’s will continue.

You propose an interesting conundrum. Therefore, if that is the way things go…THE ONLY good thing that may come from this is changes on the coaching staff..Free Willie and no imagination Bobo need to be REPLACED. CMR needs to take over the playcalling, or hire someone creative (young mind…like a Major Applewhite)…and we need to make a push for Kirby Smart as DC (assistant head coach).

It’s the only way CMR can “save his job” in Athens…if he doesn’t make changes…I see a 6-6 season at best in 2010…following by his dismissal.

Seems a little late in the season for accepting moral victories, or even “shows improvement”..

Of course, this was to be inevitably a rebuilding season, as Stafford and Moreno left (after a disappointing season, considering expectations going in last year).

Seems to me that Dooley’s famous approach of downplaying expectations as much as possible helped avoid the disappointment that seems to doggedly prevail across Bulldog nation like the cloud that bedeviled Joe Bfilspik. It isn’t so much that the bulldogs aren’t undefeated this late into the season, but perhaps that expectations yet again have failed to be matched by performance, creating the perception (perhaps justified this year) that the dogs have underachieved?…

Obviously a win would go down as one of the biggest, if not THE biggest ever and we absolutely be welcome. Why did we get beat in every facet of the game against UT? The fact that these things keep happening year in and year out is a bigger picture problem. You give Richt 2 losing seasons. What about 7-5 (possibly 6-6) this year, 7-5 next year (VERY possible),

I’d say that right there may get it done. I am more forgiving than most.

Not winning another SEC championship for at least three more years?
We’ve got very talented Freshmen/redshirt freshmen. These two classes seem to have clumped together. They should play for a title eventually.

Do you think the fans (and the boosters) will take it?
Right or wrong, I think it all comes down to seeing some kind of change in the coaching staff this offseason. Otherwise some boosters will be quite angry.

In all, if Richt doesn’t make some significant changes, things won’t get any better, in my humble opinion.

But if money’s your thing, UGA is actually a very good school, that is very quickly moving up the public university ratings. You can attend UGA and then make tons of money. I know that you make think I have already hit the party punch but, I know that if we the Dawgs stay focused and play as good as we played Arkansa we will win! That is, if we do not have the same officiating crew as we did with LSU and the one they had with Arkansa. The gators are really not that good even if they are number one. Look at their scheduled compared to ours and where they have played at. Look at the picture as a whole. I think if they played all teams that we have played so far they would have a loss too! I do think we will win tomorrow our time has come. Do not count Cox out he had a touchdown last year what did Stafford have! I believe! Go Dawgs!!! Mark, Nothing but a win and Tebow crying after the game is acceptable. This ain’t Lane Kiffin “try not to lose to them too bad” football. If we get beat by 39 this year so be it that’s the reality of it. But if you don’t win you lose.

That said I hope the D line of ours plays lights out. Those guy have the size and experience to get the job done in the trenches and I hope they do. Figure Tebow to throw a bunch tomorrow and run at least 20+ times. If I were the RB’s I would take it to Spikes to start the game out. Those groin injuries are very hard to get completely over and I can’t imagine he is fully healed. One way to find out though take it to him right off the bat. No shame in losing this game nobody else has beaten the gators in 18 tries and they have played many teams better prepared than us.

I am proud to be a dawg fan win or lose tomorrow. I hope the kids play their hearts out.

Not sure what’s going on but the SEC is protecting Bama/LSU/UF this year at all costs. It’s obvious that they are making sure a SEC team makes it to the NC game. This prob has to do with the new ESPN deal but the bias is getting ridiculous. So no matter what UGA does, “they” won’t allow UGA to beat UF b/c it would jepordize the NC opportunity for UF.

Anything short of a win is UNACCEPTABLE. Mark Richt has been at UGA for 9 years and has hand picked his coaches and players. He has all the tools needed i.e. Tradition, Fan Base,MONEY,Facilities and Talent.

He’s paid millions yearly to produce. Every team has its ups and downs but for me the moderate success that the current coaching staff has been negated by WAY TOO MANY BLOW OUT LOSSES.

Does anybody here even remember the Tennessee game where a rookie coach leading a very young team beat the dawgs bloody in every aspect of the game?

I respect Mark Richt for his values and he is not without merit.

Answer me this… Why isn’t UGA ranked in the top 5 with no more than 1 loss playing for their chance of a national title? Isn’t that the goal ????

When you start accepting moral victories you are on the road to ruin. The coaches should throw everything and the kitchen sink at Florida and try and win the game. If the players don’t have any more pride than to fight like hell to win this game they should not be UGA BULLDOGS. The attitude of this coaching staff about winning and losing stinks. They are way to accepting of losing and poor performance. UGA fans deserve the best offensive and defensive coordiantors money can buy. If CMR can’t figure that out then he needs to go to. I say no mercy on this coaching staff if they continue to embarass the school and the fans. It is time for someone to get fed up and serious about this being a championship program. Sorta like what Alabama finally did. Moral victories don’t sell season tickets and shut up the likes of Yellow Jizz.

The Dawgs need to play their best the whole game and the coaches need to coach their best the whole game. I have said since the Arkansas game that defensive coaching changes must take place. Either Martinez needs to go to a professional coaching bootcamp or someone else must step in. We cannot model our defensive strategy based upon what is hot in the college ranks and expect to compete. The bar is not high enough.

How did the program get this mediocre, this fast? You can’t blame Willie Martinez for everything. The Obama people blame George Bush for all their problems, and we’re finding out there are a lot of things that they can’t blame him for (excuse the political comments). The offense is impotent (not a misspelling), and the offensive line (great description) is underperforming. Special teams are inconsistant, and, Lord, they can’t stop the stupid penalties after two years of emphasis on being mentally sharp and disciplined. We’ve been in the top ten in recruiting for several years, according to the recruiting sevices, and are there again. Cincinnati and Boise State and TCU can’t come close to our resources and facilities. But they’re kicking hineys all over the place. I do believe Mark Richt is the right man for the job, but he needs to reevaluate everybody, down to the people who wash the uniforms. He knows what it takes to make it work. He just needs to make some tough decisions.

In the decade of ’style points’ and flashy wins, we have all forgotten that when the clock hits 00:00 and your team has more points than the opposition – it’s a win and any coach will take that. Back in the day, we didn’t have instant replay, ESPN, computer statistics, or so-called ‘football analysts’ to determine who was the best team in the country. It was wins and losses. Even ugly wins are still wins last time I checked.

However: Willie’s history has been consistent in that he has shown good achievement only in the first one or two years after arrival at the new school/new assignment. EMU to CMU, for example, and promotion to DC at UGA in 2005.

I say they’d take him. He’s worked okay where little is expected of him.

A W is a W and a L is a L. I don’t think the Dawgs need to worry about style points this year. I am worried about points in general, as in having enough points to win. UGA has scored only 33 offensive points in their last three games, I can promise you 11 points won’t beat Tebow and a spread offense. IMO, priority number 1 is putting some points on the board. The power I with the current FBs, RBs, TEs and Cox’s arm isn’t going to get the job done. I would not think a steady diet of Gray in the spread option would work either since UF’s D practices against Tebow running the spread option all the time. Maybe Gray in the wildcat with four wideouts would work, but Strong would go nine in the box and stop the wildcat pretty quickly. I don’t think the Dawgs have the stud hosses to beat the Gators. That is what football boils down to eventually, and the Dawgs aren’t big enough, strong enough, or fast enough to hang with the Gators.

“JaxDawg” asks: “Would you sacrafice one game against the most hated rival if it would insure a much needed change and future improvement?”

The answer is a resounding YES! The Dawgs are never going to contend seriously for the SEC and BCS bowls while Richt is the HC. It’s that simple.” . . . . .

Lucy. . darling. . . have you been living under a rock? perhaps this phenomenon called Georgia Football has only just appeared in your life. How many SEC championships has Richt WON at Georgia? How many SEC championships had UGA won in the previous 20 years before Richt was the Head Coach at UGA? How many BCS Bowls had UGA been too in the 20 years before Richt was the HC at UGA? It was only 2 short years ago when there was a legitimate question as to whether UGA should have a place in the National Championship game. . .

We’re having a rough season. Kind to be expected when you lose as much as we did last year. I have no idea just how much of the total offense Stafford, Knowshon, and Mo Mass made up last year, but it had to be a good bit. And still injuries to the starting offensive line, and anyone who knows anything about football knows that if you lose those guys upfront, you’re not going to just “plug” someone else in there and be fine.

I can share the idea of being a little worried if there doesn’t appear to be much to build on for next year (i don’t see a dominant RB. . . . i don’t see a standout defensive player on that side of the ball excluding Curran). . .but to say UGA won’t compete with Richt. . where have you been?

In my humble opinion it’s all about mental toughness which should be instilled from the coaching staff but Georgia does not have the mental toughness and/or mindset to beat Florida except once every three to five years. This was evident in 2008 when Brandon Spikes, Florida Linebacker, leveled Knowshon Moreno and instead of this being a rallying play for Georgia, Knowshon simply laid on his back like a dog run over by a car and the rest of the players and coaches did not use this hit of humiliation to get fired-up and it was at this moment Georgia knew they were defeated. I can guarantee this would not have been the mind set under Nick Saban or Urban Meyer and this is the primary reason why Georgia does not win Championships let alone beat Florida!

but this Super Bowl Championship coach sure does. I might add Jimmy Johnson, another Super Bowl Championship coach has said Tebow is a high first rounder. The Gators also have at least 5 first rounders starting on defense , 3 in the secondary and #51 and #8.

Dungy also had interesting comments on Tim Tebow. Dungy loves winners. He thinks Charlie Ward would have been a great NFL quarterback because he won at every level. Dungy said that Tebow is like that. He just wins, and that will translate to the NFL.
Dungy said if he ran St. Louis, he’d draft Tebow high in the first round. “Franchise quarterbacks are hard to fine, and I believe in this guy,” Dungy said.
Dan asked Dungy if Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Jake Locker and Jimmy Clausen were available, would he take Tebow over all of them. Dungy said yes, he’d take Tebow.

Good luck!

What ‘areas’ is UGA matching up well in?
Our punter will start FL deep on most possessions. EVEN, FLA PUNTER HAS ZERO RETURN YARDS THIS YEAR

Our DL is well suited to slowing the gators regular runs. NOT, THE #6 RUSHING TEAM IN THE NATIONA AGAINST THE #54 RUSHING DEFENSE

Our defensive secondary is good enough to match up reasonably well with Florida’s surprisingly mediocre receivers. AGREE

AJ Green matches up against anyone. HE IS GREAT, BUT FLA IS THE ONLY TEAM THAT CAN PLAY HIM MAN COVERAGE, BOTH OF THE GATOR CORNERS ARE 1ST ROUND NFL PLAYERS

Punts – We’ll have a coupe of net yards advantage here though as Butler’s #1 in the country.

I don’t analyze tape to death, but I did see florida running inside alot imo, and we do have big senior defensive tackles, one of whom had a dominant performance last game. This is more of my feel for how FL might attack us and think we’ll stand up well.

AJ – I’ll take man coverage on AJ. Maybe Cox will throw his way more often. I’d trade say one interception for one big touchdown to AJ.

Hasn’t anyone noticed the new toughening of the SEC censorship rule today? Now it is time to fire Mike Slive. If his best response to an issue that is challenging the integrity of his entire conference is to try to silence everyone he possibly can, then he needs to go. Do we as fans really give a sh** how much loot he is bringing in? No. Byt we do care about college football and the SEc. The credibility of his product is what is on the line and silencing critics will not stop this issue. Not in the age of the internet. He needs toget a handle on his officials, and if he can’t or won’t he needs to go. Fans want to see the players decide the games, win or lose. If Fl v. Al plays out as expected, you can be sure there will be questions from other parts of the country and some TV sports announcers about all the one way penalties involved,AND the strong arming of the coaches who simply pointed out the truth.

Va Tech loses on a last second field goal after gift wrapping the game for UNC with a late fumble. They are then called vastly overrated by UGA fans. Alabama should’ve lost in the same fashion to Tennessee, the same team that lost to Auburn and UCLA and had to come back against Ohio to pull out the win. And UGA fans consider that to be “parity in the SEC.”

The Dogs lose because, once a team gets into another team’s head, it’s hard to get it out. and clearly, the Gators are in the heads of the Bulldogs and their fans. Many UGA fans are now like UF fans were in the 1970s and ’80s, when UGA was 18-5-1 against the Gators. They come to Jacksonville every year expecting to lose. And Richt is asked by the boosters every year, “When are you going to beat Florida?” It’s an imposing mental hurdle to get over. And the longer the domination goes on in the rivalry, the larger the albatross grows, the more the pressure increases. But, all things come to an end and one day the Dogs will be back on top.

The 48-7 guess will be pretty close. And I hope that will be the end of Mark Richt, and the Dawgs can be competitive once again with a real coach. Dawg fans are crying out in the wilderness, and we’re looking for a modern-day Moses to lead us to the Promised Land.

Mark, good question. As much I want the Dawgs to win, as much as I hate the Gators, if losing causes Richt to make coaching changes then lets take this one on the chin. For the GA football program to improve, coaching changes are necessary. Its either the players or the coaches, lets start with the coaches, didnt they pick the players anyway? This season is a bust. Lose the game, make the coaching changes. The best option would be to win the game and still make the coaching changes.

What is unacceptable is telling a 5′7″ 165 pound recruit that Willie will be back next year! In fact telling any recruit that Willie will be back next year is unacceptable. Willie coming back next year is unacceptable.

How many points does Florida have to score for CMR to decide that Willie coming back is unacceptable? How many points does Tech need to score without throwing a pass before CMR gets it? Bottom line: Both those teams scoring that many points (ever how many that may be) is acceptable.

I’ve been a Georgia fan since the 1960’s. I was a season ticket holder until I moved out-of-state. I am not attending any games or watching on TV until Willie is gone. It is just too painful.

This is a no win situation for the Bulldogs.

If Georgia wins, then Willie Martinez stays on. If Georgia loses, the Mark Richt either has to retain Willie Martinez, or he has to go back to all of the recruits he promised he was going to retain, and explain why he lied to them when he didn’t keep him as the defensive coordinator.

It’s a sad day that this conversation is even having to be taking place. Do the UGA fans deserve to be subjected to be questioned as to whether we would be satisfied whether with a close loss to Florida rather than a blowout? We’re talking about the Georgia Bulldogs, not some second rate program, like Arkansas State. This is ridiculous. Keeping it close? Are you kidding me? With our talent?

We’ve heard all of the excuses – we’re going to tighten up our special teams; defensive play; work on our offense, blah, blah, blah. We get blown out by Tennessee and now we’re hoping we don’t get blown out by Florida. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

UGA should win this game. Notwithstanding that assertion, Bobo and Martinez should both still be fired after the season.

With 38 players in the NFL, in the top 3 I believe, and with athletes on the field superior to Florida, the only reason for the downturn is the coaching and scheming. Since Richt stopped calling the plays and VanGorder left, UGA has schematically been in decline.

To compete at the pinnacle and win championships, UGA needs championship coaches. We need coaches that other people want, ie VanGorder. Nobody is knocking down Martinez and Bobo’s door trying to steal them. With the talent advantages UGA has, that is a glaringly apprent problem. Despite the fact that Bobo and Martinez are good men, they are making superior talent look mediocre instead of having sperior talent make mediocre coaches look superior.

Florida is struggling and I believe the Dogs will take it to them tomorrow. I also believe, however, that UGA has the money and the reputation to attract top notch coordinators for both sides of the ball and should do so.

Despite the players saying it is their fault (honorable), the blame lies with the coaches and the scheme. It is the coaches’ responsibility teach the player to be disciplined and to know what is going to happen in a given situation.

Excuse time is over, the Dogs need to get to work and start beating teams they aren’t supposed to like years past.

No moral victories!! The Dawgs can win this game. I am tired of all the talk about bad coaching and the supposed lack of talent. We have some of the best talent in the country and a head coach that will go down as one of the best coaches to ever coach at UGA. It is time to stand behind the program and get up for this game. I really think that GA will win this game because FLA is having trouble scoring in the red zone. There only running back to speak of is TEBOW who is still showing signsofhis concussion with bad decision making. They should have lost too ARK. and M-STATE was close until the 4th. I have got to imagine that GA will pull out all the stops this game, pull out a form of the WILD DOG with Logan Gray and Branden Smith. Caleb King will finally get 100yrd. rushing. AJ will be AJ and we will cut down on false starts, holding and personal fouls. It has been proven that if u hit FLA in the mouth that they will fold thats why they are the only SEC team that loses too the BIG TEN constantly. But Mark Ricth constantly plays there game. every time we win the running game is off the chain so thats what he needs to do. field position and running the ball with a late fumble by TEBOW GA 24 FL 20. and everyone keeps talking about Willie Martinez at least the Defense has showed up at times our offense has not been good since Richt has been there remember the Red Zone problems until Moreno came. so Bobo is more of a problem in my eyez.

I wish Willy quit on his own and CMR get some admin work at Department somewhere. With all tha $$$ we spend to have CMR buy the time waiting for coach Bobby Bowden to retire is just plain stupid!!!!! I missed GA football of 70’s and 80’s even we don’t have too perfect record but we played like man on mission. I want GA to win by 1 point, 56 to 55 so firing of the phuckers seems legit.

What’s all this talk about getting rid of Willie Martinez? Believe it or not, he’s not a bad coach. His game plans are O.K., but the execution has often been lacking. Why? Because of all the young or untried players in the current lineup. Even in the latter part of the season, where we are, let him continue to sift through, to come up with the best personnel. It is absolutely stupid to call for a man’s job when he has had so very little to do with what’s been wrong.

In the past we’ve been underdogs and have pulled the upset. Our players this season are as good or better than those teams. Our coaches however, are not. We do not have the capability of pulling an upset. If UF gave up 8 turnovers on their own 5 yard line we would lose – and lose we shall.

This will be another game when The Dawg Coaches make an over – rated team like The Gators look like they are a Number 1 Team.

Mark My Words………………..the announcer(s) will say, “The Gators have shown why they are ranked Number 1!”.

The Dawgs have not shown up to several games this season. I expect them to be intimidated and overwhelmed. The Dawgs will lose by more than 3 TD’s.

This is FLA. we have to win. Losing a close one is unsatisfactory in my opinion. Yes I would rather lose by a small score than like last years but a loss is still a loss. But that will only keep my emotions up till late in the game then I’ll get pissed because we could of had them. I do want to see some changes in the off season but I dont want to have a losing season and not go to a bowl to get the changes. Dont we have some sort of record or at least one of the top records for consecutive bowl games? I want to keep that going. Even if we make good on the rest of the season I have to believe that CMR will and already see’s that a change is in order. Winning this game would make the season for me. I’m sick of losing to them and a win would make the record over the last 6 years like 3-3 I think? We need to turn this trend around for the reason that we are starting to feel like we cant beat them even when we have the better team. Also for payback, in 02 they ruined a NC shot for us with our only loss when I know we had the better team. The 2 big wins circled for me since everything started looking so bad was of course UF And Tech, I’m tired of hearing how cocky there fans have gotten since last years 3 point loss to them. Now they act like they have dominated us for 7 years in row, I really want to shut them up. Normally I would be happy for them until they play us. I’m glad to see there program getting better and for the games with them getting tougher, but it’s ironic that now that they have risen a little we have dropped a lot.

On a side note, after listening to CMR on The Fan the other day, he said something that bugs me, he stated that he didn’t think he had to do a whole lot to motivate the team for the UF game, that they know how big it is. Well they should but it seems just about very year they are ready and were not. I bet Meyer isn’t sitting down there thinking the same way, I’ll bet he’s cracking whips in Gainesville. I’m no coach but that was just what I was thinking when I heard that.

Mark, UGA would have won last season if the refs weren’t determined to punish Richt for the previous year’s TD celebration. It all started when we picked off Tebow and they called a bogus penalty on us to bring it back. It continued when the tv announcers were calling the obvious pass interference on UF when they returned an INT after mauling the receiver for a TD and the officials looked the other way. That 49-10 was the SEC punishment, not UF coming up with a rout.

I figures we got to sack T-blows 4 times to start them clanging bells again in his helments.

Once T-blows has the clanging bells and starts throwing the picks sixs to the Dawgs, we should be able to run up the scoring. FLA will have to try a running a game, and that aints so good for them. They can’t runs good ever sintces they Harbin did the smart things to tell Myers to shove it while collectioning big bucks in NFL.

With no running and no passing from Gaytors, Dawgs will shuts out Gaytors on scoring board. Then Dawg D is going to hunker out the big plays of defenses touchdowns.

While Gaytor D is pretty better than most D’s, I dont thinks AJ Green is stoppable by Gaytors. He will torch them for a few Lindsey Scott long catch TDs.

UGA will close down FLA scoring while gettting scoring from UGA D touchdowns and AJ Green big plays.

Thus, a big scoring blowout by UGA with timeouts to rub Gaytors tails in it would be acceptsable and sweet. Also, we need to get ringing bells started back in T-blows head so FLA loses 2 SEC games, and Dawgs play for SEC champs with winning Sugar Bowls trip.

It doesn’t matter who you root for, that has to make you sick. How do you pull off those stellar recruiting classes year after year but end up so bad? I hope, in this game, that
1. Georgia allows NO long kickoff returns.
2. Georgia doesn’t blitz on third and long.
3. Georgia punt returners don’t MAKE a fair catch inside the ten yard line. Call a fair catch, sure…then knock the piss out of the first coverage guy down and get outa there. Let some of these things bounce into the end zone.
4. Coach Richt doesn’t give up on his QB’s passing ability…no matter how bad he may have looked…and starts calling draw plays on third and long all the time. (Playing not to lose, instead of playing to WIN.)
5. Georgia doesn’t make any STUPID mistakes or penalties…especially in CRITICAL situations.
6. Georgia doesn’t leave the middle wide smack-ass open, and let Tebow get crucial first downs (or worse) with that hesitation draw play he runs a dozen times a game.
7. Coach Richt never again pulls that deliberate penalty crap…I pull for Georgia, not that FSU scum.
8. The referees call all the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against both teams as they SHOULD be called, as described in the rule book.
9. The referees don’t make any incorrect calls in critical situations. (They need a good game…and I’m pulling for ‘em.)
10. Georgia actually look like…as a team…that they are READY for this game.

If all this happens, I like our chances.

A victory is playing like you should win and then getting a win. A moral victory is showing that the linemen aren’t entirely “finesse,” but anchored in cement with some smashmouth mentality. And a secondary that dumps the scattered, smothered and uncovered appearance. Obviously, what I’d like to see is a victory where there’s some fire in the trenches to let loose a brand new running game, but that’s probably not going to happen. A moral (likely) victory simply means there’s enough fundamental skill readily apparent so that the team looks like it can beat Auburn or (over-rated) Georgia Tech.

My neighbor, an old-timer, told me he watched the UGA-LSU game and, after lengthy thought, came to this conclusion: Georgia’s team is essentially made up of teenagers, not adults, and it would be nice if the squad could win one more game of the five remaining. If the team didn’t win out, that’d be o.k., because we’d still pull for them anyway.

If cox finishes the season out what is our team going to be like next year with a new quaterback with no experience. The season is all ready over why not get the other guys ready for next year. Who knows they may be another stafford or eric zier waiting. Yes we need a hard nosed def cordinator who will fire up the players and a offensive cordinator badly. I would love to see Ga beat fla but it’s going to be far fetched if we keep making bad judgement on who we play or how many mistakes we make. Get a 2×4 and if someone commits a peanalty swat him. CMR is way to soft I think he is a good coach but not hard nosed enough to get Ga where the need to go. Go Dawgs

Keys to the Game:
1. Blocking – Hold Blocks 1 SEC Longer – Open Holes
2. Get to Tebow – Rush Him up – Sack his A$$!

For years and years under 4 different Georgia Coaches, Larry Munson always barked out “Nooooo Blocking” on the games we lost. Same this year, except the current GA Broadcaster hasn’t picked up on that yet.(as a matter of fact he hasn’t picked up on a lot that Larry would call.)HOLY SMOKES! DID I SAY THAT? It’s all about the men up front guys! If we have good blocking and “Hold the Damn Blocks a Second More” and open some Damn Holes, we win! Come on you guys! Hunker Down One More Time! Oh Larry! We owned florida till spurrier came in the early 1990’s. He lit a fire under them like we need to have someone do to the current DAWGS! He changed the attitude that the gators once had (they always were intimidated by UGA … and most of the time found a way to lose the game even when they had a better team) UGA needs a coach to do the same now…… we have lost alot of close ballgames to UF in the past 20 years..ones that we would win prior to the sprurrier years….We must have a change in attitude and change in some coaches would not hurt either. UGA has the talent to play with UF this year…. they just can’t be disciplined enough to play a complete game. I love CMR and what he has done since at UGA. However, Some changes need to be made with the assistant coaches…..and fast the UGA program is slipping into mediocre just like the Ray goof and Jim Doonan years.

The game is decided by the QB position. If you punish the opposing QB more than they punish your QB then your probably going to win. Tebow gives you the opportunity to put a hurting on him by running the ball numerious times during the game. The key is not just to tackle him but to tackle and hit him hard everytime he runs the ball. He must be made to not want to run the ball. Tebow provides the opportunity so the Dogs need to provide the pain. Let me be clear, even as a Bulldog fan, I don’t want to see anyone injured. Pain and injury are two different things.

Truth , UGA fans don’t like to hear the truth. As all fans don’t. Fans want PERFECTION. No excuses. And coaches better be aware of this before they accept the job. Thats why they make the big bucks. I’m no college alum, but I love to watch the games. I don’t contribute anything to any college. Therefore I don’t have or want any control over a coaches job.The thing I find hard to understand is why most alum and fans will not accept a season when their school has a off year. My favorite Florida-Georgia tradition is watching the Red (and Black) Sea part late in the third quarter as all those “diehard” leghumpers abandon their team and flee the stadium.

Glenn said “We’re talking about the Georgia Bulldogs, not some second rate program, like Arkansas State.”

Sorry, Glenn, but we are a second rate program. With Richt/Martinez/Bobo there, we’ll stay a second rate program. Some years will be better than this one (I hope so!), but we’ll never be SEC champs or in a BCS bowl until we clean house and get a winning head coach, which Richt is not. That’s okay if we’re satisfied with 8-4 or 9-3 seasons, but it’s not okay if we want to regain the thrill of being in the hunt.

Richt has to go, and now, not two or three years down the road.

Personally, I’ll watch the first quarter on TV and take it quarter by quarter. If it’s a major beatdown like last year, I just don’t have the stomach to watch any more. At least the beer will be cold. I may need to drink a lot of it!

My feeling is that Florida will win big, maybe by 40 points.

I’m glad we have some easier games after this before playing Ga Tech.

CMR is a nice guy, but he has to go. The Gators are in the head of the Dawgs and you need a much stronger personality to turn this around, like the Gators did with Spurrier in 1990, when Dooley was in the head of the Gators. UGA was like 18-5-1 in the 70&80’s and now the Gators are 16-3 against the Dawgs. You better also look at what Kiffen has done at Tennessee—-another strong personality and South Carolina is on the way up and I doubt you could beat them today.

So unless you are happy with 4th place in the East I would be writing/calling your AD–something must be done fast.

Final score today, Gators 35-6—ouch!

Lord how we do go on. Florida is not the team that beat Georgia or anywhere close to it, they are a product of a hype machine whose make up is beginning to run. Georgia is not near as bad as we are lead to believe either. They went out to OK. State with the idea that it would be like all these other out of league match ups. They got smacked in the mouth and didn’t respond very well. It was the country club bully getting a whooping by the public school boy. Georgia players are treated like royalty in this state and not use to getting smacked. LSU beat em on a job by the refs. Now Tennessee almost beats Alabama last weekend, plays with the arguably best team in the country, but who knew when Georgia played them they were going to be that good. Once again Georgia shows up like a friendly dog ready to get it’s bone. It brings all that black and red to Knoxville, hits the field not expecting any competition and once again get hit in the mouth and do not respond. Tennessee by the way is doing the best coaching job in the SEC but since we hate the coach we never write this. Spurrier lived off this misinformation and not only pointed it out in his heyday, but depended on it to beat you. Now Georgia goes to Florida embarrassed about their team, thinking they are underdogs. It is the first time this year their minds are right for a game, and it is not the coaching it is reality that makes it so. They beat Florida today. Good coaching and less spin they would have one loss on their record going in, but I’m a Tech fan so what do I have to complain about.

Can’t argue with anything you say, GT…we did go out to OSU thinking that we’d beat ‘em. (We’re the SEC team, right?) Just like we thought we had an easy bowl win against West Virginia a few years ago. And even in a few wins lately, we have not looked like we were ready to play hard. (Should we have needed a last second field goal to beat Vanderbilt a couple of years ago, and an overtime TD pass to beat a BAD Alabama team?)
And when that happens over and over…isn’t that the coach’s fault?

I think CMR has been planning of this game all year. After all, what victory would be sweeter than to knock-off the #1 team in the country, regardless if UGA has had a crappy season. People will remember for many years to come the year (this year) that UGA beat the gators when UGA was not even ranked. It will go down in history as one of UGA’s greatest wins ever.
That is why I think Richt will showcase a whole different offense that he has been planning and practicing for all year. This will be the “coming-out” party for Logan Gray. And UGA will light it up. Florida has been preparing for an inept and incompetent Cox driven offense. Florida will not see that – they’ll see an offense they have never seen before and UGA will win. This day will live in infamy for all the Bulldawg Nation now and for those to come.

But to play so poorly with the penalties, the poor play calling and the blown coverages… That is just not right…

Mark May of ESPN said that Fl will hang half a hundred on the dogs and he is right, your defense sucks and your coaching is pathetic. Tebow will catch nd pass H Walkers record on the dogs, which is awesome, he is a better player than Walker ever was. I do not like Willie Martinez as defensive coordinator. To say that he is a horrible coach would be inaccurate. Since he has been at Georgia he has been a part of some really good defenses( check the stats ). I would be okay with Martinez being demoted back to a position coach in fact I think it has to be done. The fact is a good position coach will not always make a good coordinator. I willie is as loyal to Richt as Richt is to him he will step down. My problem with this Georgia team is the lack of passion i see week in and week out. I watch teams like Alabama and Florida and they consistently beat the will out of their opponents. Georgia Tech is a great example of this. Those players will fight until exhaustion to win a game. Georgia’s coaches are to blame for the majority of the problems but the players should be held accountable for not giving 100 percent all of the time. They need to toughen up. Back to the defensive woes, there is only one solution. Georgia needs to kidnap will muschamp, remind him that he is a dawg, and let him choose his defensive staff.

Tebow is better than Walker? Fact: Herschel Walker only played at UGA for three years. Tebow has been at Florida for four years. An extra year equals extra stats. Another fact: Herschel Walker”s touchdown total only includes those touchdowns scored in regular season games. Tim Tebow’s total includes all games he has played in. one more fact: Herschel Walker was the focal point of Georgia’s offense, to beat Georgia you had to stop walker. If tebow has a bad game Florida can still manage because his supporting cast is much more talented and diverse than was walker’s.Tim Tebow is clearly the most productive player in NCAA history, however alot of players have contributed to that. Look at Tebow’s stats with Percy Harvin and without. Fact is Tim Tebow could not do the same things as herschel walker and to think that he could would be ignorant.

Walker was not that great. His teams never won much, the one NC was bogus, the dogs were scared to play a top 5 in the bowl. Instead they played #10 Notre Dame and barely skated by. If they had played Pitt, Penn St, or USC in a bowl that year they would have been blown out. Walker and Dooley are what is known as closet champions, they were scared to play the best competition. Gators are about to make it 3 out of 4 NC’s, the dogs are nothing
