Bradley’s Buzz: ESPN thinks UGA can (almost) beat Florida

When last I doubted the wisdom of ESPN’s Insiders and its Scouts Inc. brand of predicting, the Worldwide Leader was right and I was wrong. I thought Georgia Tech would beat Miami. Scouts Inc. picked the ‘Canes. Score it Scouts Inc. 1, MB nil.

So I pass this along for purposes of edification. Scouts Inc. gives Florida the edge over Georgia in seven of nine categories. (Link requires registration.) The Bulldogs are preferred at wide receiver and linebacker, you should know. Me, I’d have made it eight of nine, but I’m a famous Gator fan

Regarding Georgia’s offense, such as it is, against Florida’s top-ranked defense:

“Look for Georgia to attack the middle of the Florida run defense. True freshman RB Washaun Ealey and 222-pound backup Richard Samuel are both tough between-the-tackles runners who can lower their shoulders and pick up yards after contact. In addition, FB Fred Munzenmeir is an effective lead blocker who has done a nice job filling in for the injured Shaun Chapas. On the flip side, Gators MLB Brandon Spikes is questionable with a groin injury that forced him to miss the Mississippi State game, and Florida’s interior defensive line is banged-up.”

Regarding the men of Matinez versus the minions of Meyer:

“Florida will likely continue to have problems running QB Tim Tebow inside in short-yardage and red zone situations. Tebow is a north-south power runner who needs a seam to be truly effective, and Florida’s interior offensive line is allowing too much penetration. Georgia DT Geno Atkins is at his best using his above-average initial quickness and upper-body strength to shoot gaps and disrupt plays in the backfield. He is surrounded by a strong supporting cast as well, with the 315-pound Kade Weston getting good push up the middle and the active Jeff Owens holding his own at the point of attack.”

By now, you’re doubtless wondering if Scouts Inc. has been watching the same Bulldogs you have. And you’re also wondering: Does Scouts Inc. really think Georgia will win? The answer:

“Outside of the Kentucky game, Florida’s offense has sputtered during SEC play. Look for that trend to continue to a certain degree this week. Georgia’s pass defense has been one of the most porous in the country, but Tebow lacks the weapons at wide receiver to take advantage, and the Bulldogs have had a bye week to prepare for him. As far as the running game is concerned, the Bulldogs are capable of controlling the middle of the line of scrimmage and they have the athletes at linebacker to contain the speedy Gators running backs. However, Georgia’s offense will have an even tougher time putting points on the board working against the Gators’ stifling defense, and that will be the difference in the game.”

The projected score, according to Scouts Inc.: Florida 24, Georgia 16. Given that the spread is 15 points, I’m thinking that’s virtually a Dog victory. But what the heck do I know?

Hey! There’s no need to answer all at once.

georgia loses, but not like you think…after scoring a late touchdown to go ahead, georgia’s team and band and mascot and fans and player’s parents rush the field. after 33 penalties are assessed, the bulldogs kick off from the parking lot. florida calls for a fair catch in the bulldog’s end zone for the go ahead TD. after they incur zero penalties, they recover an onside kick and call 2 time outs and use another when they challenge the spot of the ball after they take a knee. after the game, both teams talk about how disrespected they feel. georgia’s players act out by driving terribly and getting arrested while florida’s players cry to meyer and he cries at a press conference where, for once, florida is flagged with a personal foul for being the whiniest number 1 team in history.

We do have good personnel. I’m not sure about the safties (Evans and Jones), they seem to be out of position all the time. Guess who coaches the safties? Willie Martinez! I can’t believe he is still our DC. He is holding us back! Richt please make a change.

Delbert, SOS is wins or losses unless you are in the military, then it has an entirely different meaning.

This is a tuff time to find a job and some of you people want to cause the unemployment rate to go up by firing a bunch of coaches with huge families. Have you no shame?

Dawg fans you can forget it, this game is wrap unless the UGA football players learn how to play fundamentally sound football.

I have watch the UGA players the past 3 years and I have yet to see good fundamentals from these current football players.

Mark R. should have won a national championship with this type of talent but they always get out coach every year!

Why do some of you fools think GA will will because of their running game? WHAT damn running game? GA has the worse running game in the SEC and the teams that has better running backs didn’t beat FL. Plus… GA has the trump card and his name is Ole Willie Martinez.

Florida State is awful. Miami lost last week. Virginia Tech lost again tonight to North Carolina.
So much for SOS.

I’m sure there will be more GT fans concerned with the UGA/UF game Saturday than the GT/Vandy game.

Still don’t think Cox should have played this year after seeing him in the spring game, but you will see an improved QB come Saturday w/ Bobo talking to him all game…every-time something went wrong (ints, fumbles, etc.) you could see an obviously flustered QB with that panicked stricken, wide eyed fear of failure in his eyes…I’m sure “the pressure” he felt as a 5th year player/leader “who gives us the best chance at winning”, put more demand on him than his skills/ability could deliver…Bobo should have been there on the sideline all along “trying to steady the ship”…I’m sure the team would look at his facial expression(s) in the huddle/sidelines and think “Oh Sh*t” this guy is scared out of his skin…this is not the leadership required ON THE FIELD…on the other hand, Cox is a great practice player and probably is a good team leader away from game situations…a QB can’t appear to be flustered, the team looks to them for the answers…like I stated earlier, w/ Bobo standing beside him, I think you’ll see a much more compossed Cox and the confidence will transform over to the entire team…it might make the difference in a W and a L this weekend…if Bobo’s presence doesn’t help, then this should be Cox’s last start…

Defensive Line has been a major dissapointment this year. Apparently Geno Atkins was taken out of the starting lineup for 4 or 5 games and nobody noticed. He wasn’t any more a factor when he started than when he was on the bench. Kade Weston has finally made a few plays this year but he’s a senior as well. Why did it take this long? Rashad Jones has to be one of the biggest bust recruits we have every had. He has had a personal foul for every big hit he has ever made and his coverage skills are non-existant. UGA D is a nightmare of blown coverages, stupid penalties and missed tackles.

Fact is it is going to take a lot more than just a UGA win over the Gators this week to help my Jackets out a lot. The ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl are ours to take. We just need to win. That’s a nice play to be… with your destiny in your own hands.

So many teams would have to lose, and possibly lose twice (I think even if UF loses this week they’d still be ranked higher than GT) for us to get into the MNC game… that’s why you won’t see a ton of GT fans pulling for UGA. Now, if that was ALL that had to happen, then you’d have a different story.

It’s going to be ugly, folks. Gators by at least 35 points.

How long do we have to wait to get rid of the millstones around our neck – Richt, Martinez, and Bozo?

Jared is on the money. Tech has virtually zero chance of moving up enough in the BCS to play for the championship. So that makes it real easy for me to pull for the Gators to humiliate Richt and the Dawgs..

Gators 51, Dawgs 6

The Dawgs could probably keep the score a little closer if their coaches get the flu and aren’t at the game. :-)

{Aaron Murray may be the third best quarterback in the SEC”.

A little premature since he has not played yet.

Bank Walker, if that were the case wouldn’t that make Joe Cox below him? Then why isn’t Murray the starter?}

Gatorzone, we wonder that every time Cox starts.
