Bradley’s Buzz: ESPN thinks UGA can (almost) beat Florida

When last I doubted the wisdom of ESPN’s Insiders and its Scouts Inc. brand of predicting, the Worldwide Leader was right and I was wrong. I thought Georgia Tech would beat Miami. Scouts Inc. picked the ‘Canes. Score it Scouts Inc. 1, MB nil.

So I pass this along for purposes of edification. Scouts Inc. gives Florida the edge over Georgia in seven of nine categories. (Link requires registration.) The Bulldogs are preferred at wide receiver and linebacker, you should know. Me, I’d have made it eight of nine, but I’m a famous Gator fan

Regarding Georgia’s offense, such as it is, against Florida’s top-ranked defense:

“Look for Georgia to attack the middle of the Florida run defense. True freshman RB Washaun Ealey and 222-pound backup Richard Samuel are both tough between-the-tackles runners who can lower their shoulders and pick up yards after contact. In addition, FB Fred Munzenmeir is an effective lead blocker who has done a nice job filling in for the injured Shaun Chapas. On the flip side, Gators MLB Brandon Spikes is questionable with a groin injury that forced him to miss the Mississippi State game, and Florida’s interior defensive line is banged-up.”

Regarding the men of Matinez versus the minions of Meyer:

“Florida will likely continue to have problems running QB Tim Tebow inside in short-yardage and red zone situations. Tebow is a north-south power runner who needs a seam to be truly effective, and Florida’s interior offensive line is allowing too much penetration. Georgia DT Geno Atkins is at his best using his above-average initial quickness and upper-body strength to shoot gaps and disrupt plays in the backfield. He is surrounded by a strong supporting cast as well, with the 315-pound Kade Weston getting good push up the middle and the active Jeff Owens holding his own at the point of attack.”

By now, you’re doubtless wondering if Scouts Inc. has been watching the same Bulldogs you have. And you’re also wondering: Does Scouts Inc. really think Georgia will win? The answer:

“Outside of the Kentucky game, Florida’s offense has sputtered during SEC play. Look for that trend to continue to a certain degree this week. Georgia’s pass defense has been one of the most porous in the country, but Tebow lacks the weapons at wide receiver to take advantage, and the Bulldogs have had a bye week to prepare for him. As far as the running game is concerned, the Bulldogs are capable of controlling the middle of the line of scrimmage and they have the athletes at linebacker to contain the speedy Gators running backs. However, Georgia’s offense will have an even tougher time putting points on the board working against the Gators’ stifling defense, and that will be the difference in the game.”

The projected score, according to Scouts Inc.: Florida 24, Georgia 16. Given that the spread is 15 points, I’m thinking that’s virtually a Dog victory. But what the heck do I know?

Hey! There’s no need to answer all at once.

Phil Steele has the Gators winning 34-13. He’s usually pretty good.

Well except he did pick Auburn to beat LSU 24-23 last week.

We will kill em. Pay no attention th that man behind the curtain!

Big game from Wooten. UGA freshman recievers roll on. Charles is tough over the middle, and Gators can’t cover all of the recievers. They will concentrate on Green. Watch for a run and shoot type spread. It will be what will work against that D.

I’m going out on a limb and predicting a 27-21 UGA victory. It will be the result of UGA running the ball 82% of the time, and using AJ Green as a decoy to complete passes to King, Charles, and White. Also, Willie has been read the riot act and will actually not run his 4 quarter prevent defense. I guarantee this win, and you can call me at 800-555-1212 to congratulate or belittle me. Peace.

We are going to win this game. It’s a rivalry game a 1-6 team could beat a 7-0 squad.Fla’s OL has been barely more effective than ours and I look for Weston,Owens and Atkins to have big games. For all the FLA is so superior than UGA talk…bottom line is a win sat and the series is tied at 3-3.Our kids have beaten FLA before so they are not intimated as some of our so called fans seem to be.

Here is a completely believable scenerio that leads to a DAWG win..
1. Fla wins toss and defers… UGA runs back kickoff for TD
2. On first possession Tebow throws a pick six to Branden Smith
3. On second possession UGA holds and Fla punts.. Uga returns punt for TD. By this time the crowd is wild and Dawgs confidence is soring
4. On third possession Tebow fumbles.. Dawgs kick field goal
5. On fourth possession Gators regain composure and score 7
6. Dawgs drive for another field goal
7. 27 to 7 Dawgs at halftime
Johnny, wake up… it is time to go to work…
4.

Well now…windawgwin…I find myself in an interesting position. Whoever is supposed to be monitoring this site has allowed some SOB to use my, long-established, DirtyDawg ID and post some vile crap about Richt and the other coaches. So if you’ve been around here long then you know full well my position on Georgia, so I won’t elaborate further…and if you’re the a-hole that decided to impersonate a real Dawg fan when you used DirtyDawg earlier here, then back the hell off, cause I have it on good authority that those that ‘borrow’ identities around here are ‘outed’ to the original owner of said nom de plume who then is at liberty to find you, tear your head off and crap in your neck.

I too think Ga will beat Fla AND with their running game. Cox only has to throw 8-10 yards just to keep Fla honest. Fla’s defensive line is beat up. Ga’s two running should get 3-4 yards a carry instead of 1-2. Throw to Green short and let him do his thing. I’m picking Ga. 20 Fla. 17. I think Ga’s defense AND offense will play much better being off a week before the game. They have had lots of time to study up on what to do, now all they have to do is execute. I’m a Tech fan and remember Miami having 12 days to get ready, where GT only had 4 or 5.

45ACP – (Grumble, grumble)..yeah, pulling for the Dawgs…(sigh)..

Anyone – A question I’ve not been able to find the answer for: does the margin of victory effect the strength of schedule calculations? For example, all of those Iowa squeakers…does that actually improve their SOS, them being undefeated? That would be weird.

45ACP – I used to be more hard core, but when I moved back here in 1980, I did pull for the Dawgs during the Herschel years. Except fot the Tech game of course. That Florida game where he carried on every play on that long winning drive was a classic. Saw the end of that in a golf course clubhouse. Now, this year, I have to admit I will sort of, in a way, a little bit, ah, heck, pull for the Dawgs (out of necessity).

UGA will lose big time. Probably be 3TDs at the least.

This game isn’t going to make or break the Boobo’s or Martinez’ career. It hasn’t yet and it won’t Saturday. But if they lose to AU or KY or GT on top of the FL game, then yes the Uhauls will be backing up to their million dollar houses.

Lose to UF, and then miraculously beat AU, KY, and GT, then all coaches will get raises and extensions.

Losing to FL seems to be an acceptable way of life to Adams and Evans. And to most of the dawg fans as well. Sure, you guys complain about the loss, but you have more excuses for the loss to cover up Bobo and Martinez ineptness, than, well, Bobo and Martinez even do. So prepare yourself for another FL whipping and dust off your excuse list and start practicing what you’re going to say. Remember, it’s always good to have “9 or 10 wins” because “we’re rebuilding” or “some of them have the flu” or “they’re just young”.

Would love to see the dawgs whip the big mouth gators. But Mr. Tebow is not only one hell of a qb, he’s one hell of a feild general. As much as Cox loves UGA and playing there, I just don’t think he’s got the talent to lead them to a victory over that bunch. I hope I’m wrong.
