Don't let the 120 points fool you. The Pacers had countless turnovers which resulted in easy points for the Hawks, in addition to the numerous fouls/free-throws awarded by picky refs. The half-court offensive set looks too similar to last years, in particular those Joe isolation plays.

This team would be so much better off if our unimaginative and simple-minded coach actually knew how to incorporate additional offensive sets to encourage more ball movement and player involvement.

With that being said, go Hawks!!

Poor Willie Martinez, the human punchline...I guess for all this talk about 'Joe Johnson won't have to do so much" that maybe true, but looks like come crunchtime, it's still and always will be his time.

My Name is Mark Bradley. I only write sentences under 8 words. This is good. The Hawks are good. The Braves are bad. Joe Johnson is good. I am cool. This is great.

The only negative thing I could point out from last night’s game was free throw shooting. In order for the Hawks to take that next step as a true contender in the Eastern conference; they’ll have to shoot around 77 to 80 percent as a team from the free throw line.

Really good win by the Hawks. Decided to go at the last minute and glad i am. Teague is special! All he needs are minutes and opportunity. Crawford was playing Mr Nice Guy and just trying to fit in to the scheme. Horford has arrived as an offensive weapon. His consistency around the 10 - 12 ft mark was impressive. He was also able to score inside the paint. Whoa Nellie. Josh was great at altering shots and getting to the rim. Marvin was also very consistent and smooth. JJ still likes to pound the ball but got his shot off. When he starts pounding, everyone seems to stand around and watch. The second squad is sooo much better than last year. When Woodie figures out how to play with all his new toys, this team will be even more fun to watch. The young guys are maturing - you can see it in their faces as nothing much frazzled them last night.

Saw the game last night and was impressed offensively and defensively (believe or not). They created a ton of turnovers. Beginning of the game I was diappointed that JJ missed alot and got stripped alot and I wish they would stop running the offense thru him. He rarely passes teh ball off of a pick and roll and he is not that great of a passer. J-Smoove really impressed me with not taking any 3's but played going to the rim and above it. Wanted to see more Jamal Crawford , but I know he had a little foul trouble but thought he should have been in the game for the last 4-5 minutes. Nothing against Bibby I just think JC's defense and offense is better at that point in the game. Everyone played their role well fo rthis to be the first game of the season, but I want to see less minutes from the starters and more of the bench. Also, have Horford in the game some times with a true center so we can see him at his real position (PF).

I was very happy with the win and especially happy with the ball movement on offense, but the defense was horrible. They will certainly need to tighten things up on d and they can not allow easy layups. Good teams punish guys at the basket and the Hawks now have the depth to handle these type of situations (Collins, Pachulia, and sometimes Joe Smith).

Overall I really liked to offseason acquisitions. Teague looks very solid, Crawford will only get better, and Joe Smith is the consumate pro. They have a good chance of challenging the top four, but they must AMP UP THEIR "D".

Not to be so critical of Joe Johnson but he deferred to Josh and Al because they had it going in the first half and he didn't. He was missing shots and they weren't. But its good to see him not force it like in the past. He still needs to learn how to exploit the double team and make the team pay when they double.

Tom,
Before you begin your critique why don't you try watching the full game? There are just so many fair weathered fans on these boards you would think the Hawks lost. The second unit played the end of the 2nd quarter and a majority of the 3rd. If the back ups had played 20-25 minutes each and we lost then you all would be complaining still.

Look at the Lakers on opening night all their starters played at lease 33 min and Kobe had 38 and Ron and Lamar had at least 40 min.
