Even if Florida is ripe to be had, has UGA ripened yet?

In 2008 Florida scored at least 30 points in all nine games against SEC opposition, including the one it lost to Ole Miss. Its average margin of victory in those games was 30 points.

In 2009 Florida has scored 30 points against one SEC opponent, that being Kentucky. The Gators managed 23 against Tennessee, 13 against LSU, 23 against Arkansas and 29 against Mississippi State. Their average margin of victory in those five games was 13.4 points.

As silly as it sounds to say of the nation’s No. 1 team as led by the nation’s No. 1 player, Florida isn’t playing well. It was lucky to beat Arkansas in the Swamp — remember, Georgia scored 52 points against the Razorbacks on the road — and needed a phantom interception to escape Starkville with a 10-point victory. (Remember, Georgia Tech beat MSU by 11 points on the same field in a game that was only cosmetically close.)

Tim Tebow ranks 45th in the nation in total offense. By way of comparison, Joe Cox ranks 53rd. After the Mississippi State game Tebow didn’t meet the media, which was an utter shock. (He said later he wanted to spend time with MSU coach Dan Mullen, formerly Florida’s offensive coordinator, and family.) But Urban Meyer acknowledged this week: “Tim Tebow is not playing at his highest level.”

Tebow told reporters on Monday: “It’s kind of new and it is frustrating.”

Put simply, Florida is vulnerable. And looky who the Gators play this Saturday.

Georgia is coming off its most impressive game of 2009, albeit against Vanderbilt. It has had a week to rest and ready a new end-zone dance. (Sorry. Couldn’t resist.) When last the Bulldogs had a bye before Florida, they beat the Gators and Tebow in a performance so stunning it rankled Florida for the next calendar year.

But let’s get serious. Georgia is 4-3. It needed a last-gasp pass breakup to beat South Carolina and a last-second field goal to subdue Arizona State. It lost by 26 points — the second-worst defeat under Mark Richt, topped only by 49-10 in Jacksonville last season — to unranked Tennessee. It led Vandy only 17-10 after 40 minutes.

Some team is going to beat Florida. Georgia, sorry to say, is not that team. It doesn’t defend well enough, and it isn’t going to score many points against Charlie Strong’s inspired bunch. (Florida ranks No. 1 in the nation in total defense; Georgia ranks 70th.) The Bulldogs will play hard and keep it close for a half, and then superior forces will carry the day/night.

It’s weird. Georgia hasn’t beaten a No. 1 team since it stunned Florida 24-3 in 1985, and these Gators don’t look nearly as impregnable as those Gators did. But this isn’t a vintage Georgia team. In almost any other year it would be easy to pick the upset. Not this time.

My first weekend working in almost two months comes during the UGA-Fla game. This, after four consecutive trips to Jacksonville ( 1-3 record :( ) . I will be requesting off next year. You guys hold the fort down for me, and let’s see if UGA can surprise us all. Be well.

Tebow not playing well is more a result of not having Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy than anything else. Tebow is killing it on the ground. They had some injuries and they don’t have anywhere near what they have had at the receiver position. He’s got Hernandez and Cooper and a whole lot of young question marks. Harvin and Murphy were special players who never go their true due at Florida.

Right, Mark. This is not Dooley’s Dawgs that used to show up at the Gator Bowl with a gleam in their eye, and knew they were the real favorite, no matter what the Gators were ranked. This is 2009 and Willie’s soft D is just what Tebow needs to get back on track.

Tebow really misses Percy Harvin. Riley Cooper and the tight end, Hernandez are the only go-to guys he has this year. UF’s punting is less than 40 yards net. UGA should win all the field-flips with Butler.

I feel like Jow Cox will truly show his NFL potential this game. I expect hi to be the talk of the country for weeks and weeks to come. He should be drafted riht after Sam Bradford, and be taking snaps for Tampa Bay this time next year.

Owens will dominate the pocket and sack Tebow at least 5 times. Look for the Defense to have somewhat of a resurrection.

Mark, you’re not so much of a UGA Homer today as you displayed yesterday.
Good objective article!
I believe the curs could win this weekend if the Gators have their traditional yearly defensive holiday as they had against Mississippi last year and the Gators continue to display the lack of pass/rush balance. Whether it be from the lack of good fast experienced receivers (due to losing 3 to injurys before the season started)or Tim’s concussion or a combination of both, Tebow and the Gators passing offense is “suckin’ hind tit” and if Cox, Green, and UGAs running backs have a good day, it wouldn’t surprise me if they pull out a close victory.

That said…… GO GATORS!!!!!

Mark,

you are correct sir.

this UGA team doesn’t have it, starting with the coaching staff and to the players, esp. Joe Cox on offense and our entire secondary on defense.

FLA is superior in all stages of the game…except possibly field goal kicking and punting (edge goes to UGA)

As a UGA fan, with my heart I want to believe we’ve got a shot to beat FLA. However the cold reality is FLA is simply the better team, and unless THEY beat themselves…UGA has not shot if FLA plays up to it’s potential.

If the game is competitive…at least it’ll be something to build on for the remaining games (AUB, KY and Tech)

There is no way it’ll happen this year. FL’s D is too good so if they score 14, that’ll be enough, but they’ll probably score 45 and get Baby Jesus/Meyer’s spooning buddy’s heisman campaign back on track. After tech puts 50 on us, Willie can then get another big raise at the end of the season and we can continue to watch mediocre football for at least 1 more season. Sickening…

With no running game, our chances are greatly, greatly reduced. If we could run it (and we can’t), I think we would have a decent chance against a Gator team that can be had. Frustrating, but Bobo won’t commit to the run, and our running backs (not talking about the fullbacks, who are decent) are as bad as I’ve seen since the late 1970’s.

Chris G.

October 27th, 2009

Well I can see every thing falling in to place for Georgia for this game. Georgia has had time to rest while Florida has been living on the edge the past month. I keep tell myself that Florida is going to wake up and start playing the way they have the past few years. I mean for three straight weeks Florida has played with fire. Three weeks is a pattern and a concern if your a Florida fan. This is the SEC. They better have the Fire Department on standby because this is the week that Florida will get burned. Tebow is frustrated and looks very normal right now. Florida’s defense is also banged up. I look for A.J. Green to be unstoppable Sat. He will have a trademark game of 140 to 150 yards of receiving and at least 2tds. Georgia’s defense will bend a lot in this game but with Florida’s redzone issues, it will not break. I think special teams could be a big factor in this game. I think Georgia sets the tone with a big kick return. If Georgia does win this game they will not lose again this year. Georgia still has plenty of talent and it’s waiting to bust out. Mark I want you to know I said all this when Georgia wins. I plan on going to the game. Georgia has nothing to lose and Florida has everything to lose

Just for fun, remember Steve Spurrier? LOL.

He was asked a few years back why he had such a thing (let’s call it chip in his shoulder combined with a vicious streak) about UGA.

His answer surprised me (because I didn’t know this). He said that several of his assistant coaches were players with him at UF when he was there and that, while he was at Florida, they NEVER beat Georgia. So, they had a special place in his heart and on his beat down list.

Florida never beat Georgia while Spurrier was playing? That seems like a VERY long time ago.

I’m afraid Saturday is going to show us, up close and personal, exactly how long ago that was. The gap has grown to ridiculous proportions.

IF UGA wants to rank up there with the best, they don’t have to look around the nation at Southern Cal or Ohio State (or in the past, Michigan), Notre Dame (not any more, maybe one day), Penn State or anywhere else. They only have to look across the line of scrimmage this Saturday in Jacksonville.

And to the UF sidelines.

Excellence. Accountability. Imagination. Coaching.

That’s what it looks like.

But, hey, I’m no Florida fan (yech — say next to the Florida band one year — do that once and you’ll never have a kind word to say about that school or its fans again), but I do give credit where it’s due. And, on the field, that’s where we want to be. And anybody who thinks we’re even in the same zip code with that program right now is smoking something only legal for medicinal purposes in Oregon.

I’ve got a suggestion. Let’s ask UF if they want to swap coaching staffs. What do you think they’d say?

Give it all you’ve got, Dogs. Every journey (even up the steepest hill) begins with the first step. Maybe Saturday can be the first for UGA to climb back up there. Where they should be.

We’ve got a shot to keep it close because of the extra week of preparation, but it will take a lot of crazy s*** for us to beat the Gators. By “crazy s***,” I mean, of course, that we won’t be turning the ball over, committing a ton of penalties, failing to run the ball effectively, and giving up big plays.

If, and only if, we somehow manage to pull off that kind of crazy s***, then we can win the game.

Note: I don’t think perfection is required, but seeing a game played in such a way by our players would be damn near perfection for this fan.

(And I think there’s about a 5% chance of this great result occurring. Otherwise, we’re looking at a 31-10 kind of ballgame.)

Musa, you could be right. I would be surprised if UF is not up for this game and finally gets back to playing Florida football. Come on – seriously folks . We are so undisciplined and take a TON of penalties (which Richt is fine with); our secondary can’t cover anyone, not to mention can’t tackle; when we do finally score, we act mindless and celebrate like we have never been in the end zone before (probably because we haven’t been very often). I just don’t see us suddenly playing well – changing these patterns.

I would like to put my “homer hat” on and say UGA has a chance, but I would be lying. The Dawgs have shown me nothing this year that would persuade me to pick them in this game. They are fundamentally unsound which can 100% be attributed to coaching. They will commit their standard dumb penalties, not block and or create any running lanes, get beat on play action & bootleg ALL DAY LONG (see Tennessee), make ZERO ADJUSTMENTS, look clueless on the sideline, and make excuses after the game…haven’t we heard this before??? Florida (as much as I hate to say this) is a MUCH better COACHED football team and they ACCEPT nothing but the BEST.

The final score UF 28 – UGA 7…don’t worry Richt has been praticing his “we played a great team today” or “they are a tough team” speech for the post game show. It would be refreshing to hear him say something like Paul Johnson would say (even after a win). “we have to get better otherwise we are going to get killed”…guess I can only dream.

Obvious prediction and I totally agree. The dogs will need more than a miracle to even keep it close. Florida and Brandon Spikes will eat up the offense and our defense is an utter disaster. Plus, Florida knows this is the only game left on their schedule…they win against Georgia and the are in the national championship again. UGA should approach it like Tennesse, just look for some kind of moral victory, because even on our best day, we can’t compete.

As a long time Dawg supporter I have been trying to dream up a scenerio that has the Dawgs pulling off an upset. There is not one short of the Gators forgetting what day the game is and not showing up.

1. The Gator defense is too good for our offense even on a bad day.
2. We made J. Crompton look like a Heisman candidate so the clouds will probably part and Tebow will asend after he plays his best game of the year.

How have we praticed different to get ready for the Gators? We haven’t.
What different offensive and defensive schemes will we put in for the Gators? It probably won’t matter. It is a sad state of affairs when you can’t see any way to win and just hope you don’t get embarrassed. That sux.

I agree that UF will finally be up for a game since this is the biggest rivalry (other than FSU) of the season, but I think this game will be closer than Dawg fans think.

UF has not blown out anyone since Kentucky, and has looked poor in ball control all year. I am not confident that this will be a gimme.

The reason UF played so poorly ...

…against MSU and AR is because Urban did not game plan for either game – he KNEW his team was better than those teams and has spent the last three weeks preparing for the beat down the Gators will again put on the Dawgs. He knew that UGA had the open week before the game, so he decided to spend 3 weeks preparing his guys.

And believe me, as many of you have already said, it is going to butt ugly come Saturday – the game will be over by the end of the first quarter, and the Dawg fans will have to endure another 2 1/2 hours of utter frustration as the D will not be able to slow down the team in blue and orange. You thought Crompton, Mallet, and Garcia looked good, wait until Urban unleashes all of Tebows frustrations.

According to Jax contacts, UGA ticket holders have sold record amounts of their tickets to fla. faithful. This could be as bad or worse than last year…remember Brandon Spikes taking K Murion down and staying on top of him, getting in his face/mind? The mood was set quickly and this game will be more of the same. Even AJ will be lucky to catch 3 passes for a few yards. I would not be surprised to see a shut of 35-0 with our offense racking up less than 100 total yards. I don’t think UGA can even score. I also think they want Tebow to run 2-3 touchdowns to make it clear that he is now the new TD record holder over Herschel.

You heard it here first – if WM remains as DC for next year, then he and MR will be both be gone after next season. WM has not shown in any of the seasons in which he has been DC that he is even remotely up to the task. After the repeated failures of our defense under WM for no changes to be made this off-season in DC merely means that MR is more loyal to his friends than to the program, players, alumni, and fans. If that is the case, the outcry will be too loud for Damon Evans, who has already expressed concerns about this season and this year’s team, to wait another year for Richt to show that he can learn what Kifflin alrready knows, a great defense will keep you in games you have no business being in.

Ok. Here’s some optimism for all my Dawg friends out there.
1. Dawgs are 2 – 6 against Florida since 2001 where the average margin of victory is less than 7 points a game even including last year’s blowout. 2 – 6 is not particularly good, but I can’t think of many teams who’ve done better and played them tighter than UGA.
2. Dawgs are coming off an OFF week where the record is a perfect 6 – 0 for the OFF week team when the other team plays.
3. No ones giving the dawgs a chance. Remember 1985? A win that year seemed less likely than 2009.
4. The dawgs finally had a chance to catch their breath. Think about it, it was the biggest game in OSU’s history and Joe’s playing with the flu, followed up by 4 nailbiters in a row – SC, Ark, ASU and LSU. Tennessee was the big letdown after getting screwed by the official in the LSU game and the boys gutted it out in Nashville last week. They’ve now had a chance to get well, circle the wagons, and get a little ticked off.

Alphare, the players problems are a result of poor coaching. If they can’t tackle, block, etc…then the coaches need to do something (extra practice, whatever) to get them to play better.

When is Georgia going to be the favorite? I am tired of hoping this team “upsets” Florida. It’s time this game is talked about in terms such as “Can Florida upset Georgia?”

I like that Florida hasn’t been playing well. We still have something to prove going into this game. Brandon Spikes has been walking the sidelines like a caged lion the past two games due to a nagging hamstring. He returns against UGA along with two other starters on D. For UGA to keep it close they are going to have to move the ball on us through the air. That puts a lot of burden on Cox/AJ/OLine to perform. Hopefully our offense figures something out by Saturday.

“Pray for some better recruitment for future seasons”

The crap that you typed before this line shows that you are an idiot GT fan.

Your handle “Blondie” shows that you are either a girl and know nothing about football and should not be posting on a football site or you are some dudes boyfriend and get all of your football info from him.

If you think that recruiting is the reason why UGA is 4-3, then you need to go flush your head in the toilet.

I love the people who say “I don’t think Georgia wins.” Oh really? Tell us, how did you become so brilliant? You really are intelligent, and we should all feel privileged to be in your presence.

Besides, Mark is asking “can” it happen. The answer to that is clearly yes because this is college football, this is a huge rivalry game, and we’re not talking about Western Charleston University here. This is The University of F-ing Georgia, and unless the entire team gets swine flu and can’t play on Saturday, you can bet they are going to be pumped up for this game.

I am sick and tired of these fair weather band wagon so called dawg fans pulling this team through the mud each and every week. These are the same fans that were screaming go dawgs at the 07 sugar bowl. No team can have great years every year but has fans we need to support this team each week of the season. This is a young team that had its heart broken by an officals bad call against Lsu and who knows how differently the Vols game might have been had we not had the Ref. not made that terrible call against AJ in the endzone vs the Tigers. The point I am trying to make is that this team can still finish strong and go 8 and 4 or 7 and 5 with a trip to a bowl game stranger things have happened that the Dawgs pulling the upset off against the Mighty Gators. As a true dawg fan I say get off the fence a support this team or just turn in to a Tech Fan they are all about jumping on a band wagon. Go dawgs whip them nasty reptiles on Halloween. Mark – now that you picked UGA to lose – I am nervous!!!

Just kidding – this game will have the GATORS pulling away be the end of the third (if the game is not a blowout by half) – and the Georgia stands will be empty mid way 4th quarter (as is the tradition!)

WHY?
FLORIDA DEFENSE vs UGA OFFENSE (UGA will not score an offensive touchdown – and may not get to the red zone (sound familiar – go VOLS!)

GEORGIA DEFENSE vs FLORIDA OFFENSE – although UGA is respectable against the run – it will have a hard time stopping FLORIDA’S DIVE – which will open our passing game.

This game is basically a scrimmage to work on our offense. What Vandy is to Georgia – Georgia is to FLORIDA.

My advice to GEORGIA fans:
1. Come on down and use this weekend as a celebration of college football – have fun and party!
2. Do not get emotionally invested into the outcome of the game – the UGA football program has slipped big time…… and has been slipping since 2005. Without STAFFORD or MORENO to cover up issues – this season is merely a moment of clarity to the real status of the UGA football program.
3. Do not be concerned about keeping up or competing against FLORIDA – UGA needs to be concerned about being below the middle of the pack – and trying to figure out how to catchup to TENNESSEE and OLE MISS….. and maybe South Carolina, Auburn and KY.

I am betting that Mississippi STATE will have been the better opponent against FLORIDA AND GEORGIA TECH – than UGA. Their is ZERO respect in the league right now for your Defense and your running game. without AJ GREEN – UGA is looking at 1-6 – possibly 0-7.

Travel safe – party hard – have fun – and know that gymnastics is right around the corner!!!

While unlikely due to some coaching problems on our end, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Georgia put it together this weekend and get the upset. If they worry too much about neutralizing AJ, our backs might get some running room and control the clock. If they don’t, throw it up to AJ and see what happens. He has proven himself time and time again. This weekend, those awful refs won’t be able to interfere.

Reading this it was hard to say but a lot of things you said Bradley were true. Yes, the Gators are vulnerable and yes, Tebow isn’t as good as he was last year. But hear is you “not so fast my friend” back to you Bradley. I think this team can do it in Jacksonville. Now granted I might be totally wrong but I just have that itchy feeling. Georgia seems like they thrive in these situations. When they seem to be horrible, nobody likes them, everybody criticizes them, like you are doing and they seem to come and just mess everything up. Remember Auburn in 2006. Number five team in the country, Georgia was the worst team ever losing to Kentucky and Vandy and look what they did. They dominated Auburn and that propelled them throughout the rest of the season.

Now Georgia is going to have to lay mistake and pretty much a perfect game Saturday to have a chance. I believe we are going to have to hit some big play early and that big play has got to be made. Whether it is a deep catchable ball or a trick play, we have to connect. The bye week is HUGE. Remember that is what Dooley used to do is schedule the bye week before Florida and that didn’t turn out to bad did it? Georgia has beaten the past two national champs the following year, LSU in 08 and Florida in 07. Plus it’s Jacksonville and on top of it it’s Halloween! I believe this game is going to be close and special for the Dawgs. I have been having this feeling for the last two weeks. No matter how bad the Dawgs are, they seem to get one team each year when no one gives them a shot. I believe in the Dawgs and I believe something special might be brewing down in Jacksonville Saturday night.

Personally I hope the dogs win.

Maybe they go to OT for a few extra snaps. That would be thrilling.

I hope that CMR has given his guys the speech used by Coach Dooley a decade or so ago.May the Defense be ready – because Tebow will throw, and then run to break Hershel’s SEC records in this one which is guaranteed payback for dirt stompin’ and a TD celebration from the past.

I hope more guys than AJ Green catch the ball.

I hope that CMR has the cojones to go for it on 4th down too because Coach Paul Johnson will.

Because I am an optimist: Dogs in an upset by 2.

Can Georgia beat Florida? Of course. On any given day, teams of this talent level can beat other teams with similar talent level. Will Georgia beat Florida? Not likely, but there is always a possibility. That is what is so intriguing about sports, especially collegiate sports like football. No one knows for certain until the game is played.

Georgia has the talent to beat Florida. Does it have the coaching?

Georgia is lucky they are not playing a Big 10 powerhouse this weekend. Five teams in the Big 10 could tan Gator hide. Seven could grind dog meat. Alabama is the only power team left in the SEC. The rest are pretenders!

Of course we can win…it’s a rivalry game..records don’t matter.UGA is a better team than ARK or MSU..it’s not like FLA wanted to be in tight games against those teams.Fla is still a run first team..which is so far the only type of offense we seem to defend well.I look for Owens,Atkins and Weston to have a big day.We need somebody to step up at tailback though…they can be had definitely but the Gators are not going to lay down and make it easy by no means.Rumor has it we are going to see some stuff we have been working on for this game since spring practice.Either way the FLA-AUB-GT games are what defines a head coach at UGA.Richt is one of the best in the business and I look for a strong effort down the stretch starting Sat.

Georgia would have to do what Arkansas did – play amazing defense with a bunch that isn’t all that great (I still have no idea what fired up the Arkansas defense but it looked amazingly good against Florida – not at all like the group that played Georgia). Then Georgia would have to establish some sort of a running game – even if it isn’t productive we would have to run the ball. Then Florida would have to help out a little with turnovers. If all those things happen, Georgia can win.

Say what you want about Georgia pulling off an upset but Tim Tebow will find a way to win the game for the Gators even if it is in the last seconds of the 4th quarter.

Everything you said makes perfect sense, Mark. But sometimes a team looks so ripe for an upset…

What if Georgia’s defense actually gets after an opponent for a change? Maybe, rush the quarterback, plug the running lanes, hit hard and wrap up in the secondary, maybe even pick off a pass or two…

I don’t see Georgia doing much with Florida’s defense, but what if they protect the ball, limit penalties, block well, complete a pass here and there, and run hard? They might score some points after all. We have a kicker who can score anytime the ball is inside the other team’s 40.

It seems unlikely, but not impossible. This game is definitely worth watching.

Mark…what game did you watch when Florida played Miss. State? I loved your biased comment about the Gators…”it took a phantom interception to escape Starkville with a 10 point victory.” Well, dude, if Tebow hadn’t thrown two TD passes to Miss. State, Florida would have won the game by 40 points. The same will be in this weekend’s game. If Tebow and the Gators don’t turn the ball over, they will will cover the Vegas margin and much more. If they turn it over more than once, the game will be closer than expected. If they turn it over 3 or 4 times, the Bulldogs will most likely win the game. So, the Dawgs can’t win the game, but the Gators can lose it. My bet, Florida 27, Georgia 14, with Georgia scoring once on a Florida turnover deep in its own territory and scoring again late in the game when the score is 27-7. No Georgia win this weekend. Only Florida can lose it. It has been that way all year. No one will beat the Gators this year. The Gators might beat themselves, however.

Florida will be fine in this game because they will finally put together a complete game offense, defense and the all important passion. UF was up for the Tennessee game but came out and laid an egg, this is a die hard Florida fan saying Urban Meyer was out coached by Lane Kiffin if just by virtue of being shocked at how up Tennessee was for that game, Florida won on talent and depth alone.

You saw the real Gators the first half against Kentucky, then we all know what happened after that. The Gators were up for LSU and the defense was lights out but Tebow was obviously fuzzy. I said since July that Arkansas set up as the same type of trap game as Ole Miss but the fact the Gators over came it shows how far they’ve come since then. Against MSU they again came out flat they are #1 they don’t have to impress anyone and they were playing a sub par team. At some you would think it will come together and everyone will be on their came and playing with passion and this seems to set up to be that game.

Yes Mark you are most likely right but your reasons are wrong. The reason Georgia may not win is because it’s something the officials can’t let happen no matter what. If you don’t believe me just watch the film of Florida’s game last week with Mississippi State. Add that to the fact Tennesse is most likely the best team Georgia will play this year and they will continue to get better as the year goes on. In all right Tennessee beat Alabama everywhere but the scoreboard last week. And Alabama like Florida had a little help from the zebrz boys to nail down their win too. If we are going to pull this upset we need the running game to get going for one. Also need to finally win the turn over battle (which I think we are over due for) and on defense force Tebow to run wide and cut off the option. Make him beat us throwing and hopefully we can get some pass d from the d backs. Then we need a big play early to help “spark” us. And I was going to say a Boykin Kick off return for a td but that would just put our d right back on the field negating the idea of getting the running game going and keeping the d off the field. Not too much to ask is it?

BTW what is the status of Spikes and the other 2 on defense that were not playing last saturday? Maybe that could help get the running game going.

UGA will not beat UF. This UGA team is pretty much a Goff team clone. Last Friday night I attended a HS game and honestly either of the two teams on that field that night could beat UGA.

The UGA fans who say dawgs will win are either just homers or trying to stir the pot so that Techies or Gators will take the bait and flame back. It’s truly difficult for me to believe that any reasonably thinking dawgs fan seriously believes the dawgs will win.

And if CMR remains stubborn about his staff and refuses to fire anybody (my money says he won’t) then next year will be a re-run.

We are lite years away from being a true SEC calibre team without some major staff changes. I’m at the point where I agree with the various posters who’ve suggested we defect from the SEC and join another conference. Maybe the Big East or ACC would be for us.

I can’t believe that I’m going to say what I’m about to say, but after being critical of Cox all year, I feel that you’ll see a much more poised and in control Cox…even though it was Vandy, Cox looked more relaxed behind center and w/ Bobo on the sidelines he should be more composed as Bobo will explain what he needs to do, or what he had done right, or wrong…UGA have good athletes that can match up to any team in the BCS…I suspect that there will be a few new wrinkles added to get the ball to the TE and quick slants and then they’ll start pounding the ball while mixing in passes…the key will be to control the ball and keeping the D fresh & rested…another biggie is if Bobo can handle Cox in a way that he doesn’t beat himself…Florida’s running backs are small and quick/fast so the D needs to keep them running towards the sidelines and then turn them inside and knock the crap out of them, don’t let them get OUTSIDE…Cox has to get the ball to someone other than AJ, I’ll bet that Orson is sky high and ready to make some big plays, just get him the BALL and if they’re double teaming AJ someone else has to be open (come on O line hold the blocks just a little longer…again it will be up to Bobo to get out of Cox the kind of play that he and CMR have been espousing all year that “He gives us the best chance to win,” well it’s put up or shut up…if Cox delivers, then this will pick up the whole team…college ball is played with a lot of emotion and there are certain games where you can throw records out the window…this is a huge rivalry game, so anything can happen…I can’t believe I just gave Cox a vote of confidence, but I still feel he should never have been the starting QB

Yeah–no chance in that–Florida has punked out UGA for the last 15 years. In my college years we owned them–they rarely ever won. It was laughable really–almost like our Program now.

Our program is not good enough–Look at USC, PENN State, Oklahoma–their records speak for themselves–they are PREPARED and they ADAPT,–One thing our coaching has not done since the year our last SEC championship was won.

I don’t know why, but I just feel UGA is going to pull the upset. I’m not trying to be biased, but I think it’s very possible. UGA scored 29 more points against Ark than Florida did, but then again Georgia gave up 22 more than the Gaytors did, but Florida knows it should have lost that game. Arkansas outplayed them and refs tried everything in their power to help UF win, and it worked. IDK, but I think Georgia is going to win a close one.

The reason UF played so poorly… You are ignorant. Man up and admit that Florida has been handed their last two games, especially against Ark. I know it’s hard to believe because Florida is the “Chosen Team” and Tim Tebow the “Chosen One”. Florida will not win the BcS title. Count on that.

it comes down to one thing, your team is struggling like both teams have…who would you trust will make a mid season adjustment and right the ship Urban Meyer or stubborn ole Mark Richt? Meyer has made his name by being known for season and in game adjustments. He came to UF in 2005 with a spread offense that required 5 Wide when he barely had 5 scholarship receivers. After it became evident he didn’t have the receivers or the QB he adjusted his offense added I-form and other pro style under center sets, made Leak comfortable and he came out and scorched the UGA defense ending their title hopes. When has CMR ever made that sort of adjustment in season?

Meyer knows the Gators can’t score in the red zone, but would you bet against him scheming up away to fix that? No body is better at tailoring his system to how his players are playing at that moment.

Reality tells me that with UF having 2 below average performances over the last 2 weeks that they will come out ready to play, hell they always seem to get up for us where we usually cant seem to get up for big games. 3. AJ Green needs at least 10 touches.
4. Ealey, King, jackson and Thomas need to play…not Samuel.
5. We need to play more 2 tight end sets
6. Orson Charles needs to be a factor.

Mark, comparing scores against Miss State…and you’ve been writing about college football for how long? Please. Tech as ZERO defense and Florida is #1 on D. Florida would slaughter Tech just like Miami did. Tech still has to beat UGA who will score in the 40s again this season. Only question is can they slow Tech with an abnormally good day.

Oh yeah, defense wins championships. UF has a D. Georgia does not but could if they had a decent scheme. Unless Martinez has changed the scheme (yeah, right), UF will beat UGA something like 34-17. UGA will move the ball through the air, but cannot run. No run game, no chance. UF will break 30 points (yet another 30+ point day for a team facing the vaunted Martinez D).

Percy Harvin killed us last year. So did Louis Murphy. Both of them are in the NFL. If we can pressure Tebow from the ends and clog up the middle enough to make them somewhat one-dimensional, we have a fighter’s chance.

No turnovers is the key to beating anyone, especially Florida. They live off of other’s mistakes.

Post concussion Tebow has been not that great. Whether or not our D can make him look mortal remains to be seen. I have a feeling this game will be close and pretty ugly.

Keys to victory:

1. Defense has to pressure from the ends to take away the option and Rennie will be there to clean up the middle.
2. Offense has to utilize our speed with Brandon Smith and Carlton thomas on the outside for the big burst. That will open up-
3. Solid runs from King and Ealey.
4. Someone has to knock Tebow in the mouth.

Much has been made about CMR tellin the Florida db that Willie isn’t going anywhere. Let’s look at that. I conclude that CMR means that he isn’t going to fire Willie, an easy conclusion. The flip side of that is Willie will obtain gainful employment elsewhere and submit his resignation. In that instance, that will be an act of football friendship and with it, CMR remains truthful.

As to The World’s Biggest Outdoor Cocktail Party, I am a Georgia fan first last and always. But I’m not delusional on account of that. How we will run on those folks will be question that we don’t want to see the answer to. We’re averaging 108 y/p/g. And Charlie Strong’s charges are first in the land on D. Here’s an idea. Charles and White TE post to the middle of the field. UF plays their Safeties deeper than anyone to keep from giving up the big play. There has to be 10-15 yrd. routes in the middle of the field to the TE. Also take some shots deep with Green and King. Even if the are not successful, it will keep the safeties back and the middle open for the TE.

Unless UF has been holding out, they don’t have a vertical passing game. That in itself will help our DBs. All they need to do is wrap up and stop YAC. The TE for UF is key. UGA needs to chip him off the line every snap.

Atkins at DE will limit Tebow from running freely. He will have to account for who’s on the field. I know we keep hearing about Gamble playing DE in the 3-3-5 or basic nickel. That would be great to see alot more of in passing situations.

Sacks are important, but more than anything UGA needs to hit Tebow in the backfield. Just keep getting hits in the backfield. Slow him down for Curran to clean up the mess.

The Gator Defense is set to stop the run. We have to open up the game with passes to AJ, Orson, Marlong, Michael and anybody who can catch the ball. The passing game will open up the running game.

Stay in Tebow’s backyard. Florida has a better Defense this year but their offense is not up to par. First offensive play for Florida send everybody including the Water Girl. Hit Tebow with everything we have. Not to hurt the guy, I kinda like the dude, but to stop him and disrupt his pattern.

If we do the opposite of what I have said, lose by the 17.

We will not win a National Championship as long as Coach Martinez is the Defensive Coordinator. Even though our offense has had a couple of bad games this year, the offense overall for the last several years, has been pretty good. The sad thing is that the weakest part of the defense is the secondary, and that is supposed to be Coach Martinez’s specialty. I am sure that Coach Martinez is a wonderful man, but he is hurting the football program. I am a Georgia fan, but if I had a son that had NFL potential, my first concern would be the development of my son, and that unfortunately would rule out him playing for Coach Martinez. Coach Richt, please make a change! I know you are loyal to Coach Martinez, but your first loyalty needs to be to the players. Don’t let your love for Coach Martinez limit the potential of our program. Coach Richt, let me ask you something? Did our defense look well coached against Colorado’s tight end two years ago? How long did it take to make an adjustment? Forever! Did our defensive secondary look well coached against Tennessee a couple weeks ago? No, it was embarrassing! How many times were the receivers wide open when Crompton ran a bootleg? Too many to count! How long did it take to make adjustments? Forever, or never. A good Coach can look bad here and there, but a good coach and his staff make adjustment shortly. Coach Martinez does not even make decent adjustments. You want to see a good coach make adjustments? Watch Coach Paul Johnson at GT. Several times this year another team came into the game with a great gameplan to shut down a phase of his offense. And they shut it down for a series or two or even longer, but then he makes an adjustment and kicks their butt the second half. That is what I want out of our defensive coaches at Georgia– the ability to figure it out and make the necessary ADJUSTMENTS. That is called COACHING!!! Coach Martinez is getting paid to be a good coach, but he apparently has not figured it out. PLEASE HIRE SOMEONE WHO CAN FIGURE IT OUT! Coach VanGorder could make adjustments, Coach Kirby Smart can make adjustments, Coach Tenuda can make adjustments, BUT IT IS OBVIOUS THAT OUR CURRENT DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR CAN NOT AND HAS NOT FIGURED IT OUT! I live in Athens and I love Georgia, but the Truth is the Truth!

HappyDawg, I laughed at your comment! What have you been smoking? It has to be illegal! Are you a cousin of Cheech or Chong? Have you had a head injury lately? Are you from outer space? I admire your loyalty to Coach Martinez and Georgia, but at some point you have to not be stoned and be alert enough to see things clearly. After a Coach has been given ample opportunity and time to show what he can do, and consistently underperforms, it is time to give someone else a chance. Coach Richt is a great Christian man and a great Head Coach, but his greatest strength (LOYALTY), is also his greatest weakness. I hope that he will see that he is first and foremost responsible to see that the players get the best coaching that they can get. Unfortunately, right now it is not happening! In essence, he is not being loyal to the defensive players right now! He is not providing them with the coaching that they should get!

Frank the Falcon, I appreciate your sentiments and yes I am a loyal dog. I think coach Martinez is the best DC in the US. He can outcoach Strong all the way. His talent level is high at UGA, but he has no FOOTBALL players. Just because the players are fast, doesn’t make them great players. Martinez coaches them up, but lousy football players are lousy football players. He can’t be blamed for stupid plays by players. Urban Meyer has outrecruited Georgia badly on the Defensive side of the ball, not only in quickness, but in football smarts. A great track star does not necessarily make a great football player.

Georgia fans need to look at the game from this perspective. If they should beat FL, and, by some miracle, beat Tech, then they are going to be stuck with Willie for at least one more year, plus the other incompetents on Richt’s overpaid staff. There will be no way Richt will voluntarily get rid of them, and Adams will not force him to fire them. For the long term good of the program, would it not be better to lose convincingly to both UF and Tech in order to make sure that Richt is forced to can Martinez and the other incompetents so that there might be a better future?

The Dawgs are gonning to blows out the Gaytors by a large amounts of scoring points. AJ’s have field days with Gaytors secondary backs. Gaytors got an arrgogant Myers as coach and overhypered T-blows as QB’s. Teblows is going be out before ending of first quart when Dawgs put him on sacked backside after having offweeks to desigh blitzing against Myers. Cuz, I disagree to a point with your game plan. I believe we open the game conservatively, run, short dump passes, run. Don’t make any mistakes offensively giving UF something cheap. However, I don’t believe Richt and Bobo know how to do this. Of course that’s assuming Willie’s D will play with some discipline and keep us in the game. If not we have no choice but to air it out playing catch up, then you’re right on. Each defensive man has an assignment in the spread with so many options. We just have to stick to them and our guy has to make the play.

If playing the Gators isn’t enough motivation alone, remember Urban rubbing it in your faces last year, calling time outs. If that isn’t enough, remember Florida is #1, the Dawgs can ruin the season of their mosted hated, feared rival. If that isn’t enough, remember you’re representing UGA. With three days before the game, it’s about time for a reality check for Dawg fans who actually think they have a chance to win. The most likely outcome is that the Gators will win by 40-50 points. Florida is going for the BCS ranking, and that means they’ll run up the score as much as they can, just like last year. Putting a very bad UGA team up against Florida is like Washita High School playing the Super Bowl winner, it’s no contest.

Now, in the very best case for UGA, which means that Richt and staff actually make a few smart decisions; UGA players have had enough reading lessons that they can read a playbook; all UGA players who have been arrested are out on parole and have their heavy ankle monitors removed; and Meyer feels in a charitable mood, the Gators will still win by 30 points.

So start drinking early, you’ll need to be seriously anesthesized by game time.

Dogs lose in another blow out. UGA will be open over the middle with the Florida tight end catching Tebow’s soft lobs and they will destroy UGA all day with that and the Tebow dive and the play action off of the dive. Bryan Evans and Reshad Jones will be lost in space. LOST they will be. They also will catch UGA with a fake punt and a couple of end arounds and that will be enough to totally destroy UGA and Wille Martinez’s D and Mike booboo’s O. Pathetic it will be.

UGA will look like a sloppy peewee football team. THIS GAME might be the trick for the fans to really get up in arms with pitch forks. I for one, sure hope that they do scream to high heavens for change that we can count on.

Until we re tool 100% with new coaches top to bottom, UGA will continue to wallow around on the field. I look for Marvin Brown and one or two others to leave UGA at season’s end because they know that it ain’t what they signed up for.

Who will throw to them in the future? Aaron Murray is 5′10″ and is actually SHORTER than Cox. Logan Gray ??or Zack Mettenberger is 6′4″ and might be the future in TWO MORE years but not right now. Logan at QB? Who knows?? I would use Logan Gray at flanker asap.

Richt has shown time and time gain that he is stubbornly holding on to his staff. Any organization from time to time needs to re tool. UGA is stale with the entire coaching staff. Look at the results for the last two years. It has become a jobs program entirely. Not one coach ( except Garner and Searels) would be lured away to another school. Not one.

The season will take an ugly downturn after the Florida game with an ugly and sloppy UGA win over Tenn Tech, then ugly losses to KY, Auburn and Tech. The conference has passed UGA by and the UGA administrators do not get it. After the two or three losses to either KY, Auburn and tech, maybe they will.

This UGA line has been together for 6 days. Actually UGA’s line has done a great job pass blocking. UF’s defense is seasoned and senior based. Dawgs are big underdogs, but we’ve been there before. Georgia has a long history of upsetting heavily favored Florida teams, even in the post-Dooley era. We were supposed to have no chance in ‘75, or ‘85, or ‘97. 2007 is the latest example. When you look at what Ron Zook-led Florida teams did to us in ‘02 and ‘03, it’s easy to see that being the favorite means little in this game. It’s time to party like its 1985.

Besides, Florida’s one of the least impressive undefeated, No. 1 ranked teams I’ve seen in a long time, and there’s no way that Georgia is that bad. They have to get hot on both sides of the ball sometime this season, might as well happen on Sat. after two weeks to prepare.

Ed – “Georgia has a long history of upsetting heavily favored Florida teams, even in the post-Dooley era. Besides, Florida’s one of the least impressive undefeated, No. 1 ranked teams I’ve seen in a long time, and there’s no way that Georgia is that bad.”

Dang straits Ed!

FLA is playing like the Zookster days, and Dawgs got history of upsetting and hunkering down to winning. The only thing you’ve been wrong in stating is scoring. UGA will haves been responsible for putting up 20+ more pointes than you listeds.

Art Vandalay – “Urban Meyer is the greatest coach in recent history at adjusting his game plan to fit his team.”

Art, you may be a greats person at importer-exporter or even architectures, but you don’t know Jacks Gaytors squat about the playing of the football. Myers is a second rate bump coaches who is nothing buts a arrorgants horses backends. He only gets away from it by pollaticking the reffers and the BCS pollesters to get into champs games.

This year FLA is extra stinkyness because FLA aint gots the Harbins no more on such a sorry teams. FLA has no chances at winnings unless UGA give em the games away.

Go DAWGS! Beat them sorry Gaytors!

FLA is a team of losers for loosers. They is wearing that ugly oranges on Hallowseenie, and goning to end up looking for like a bunches of smasherd punkins.

UGA is going to bites off that’s tail on the Gaytors and then chew em up while spiiting out. The Dawgs will be big winning by huge points spreading.

T-blows is nothings but a media hypes machine that’s no any goods. Dawgs got the Christian coaches committed to All Saints Days on Sun so God will take a hand in beating Gaytors by chasterizing the non-believers of Gaytor nations.

Go Dawgs!
