Was what we saw Saturday a circling of the wagons? (Photo by Frederick Breedon IV)
Nashville – I’m going to say something, and you’re going to laugh. You’re going to laugh so hard you’ll make like Chipper Jones and pull an oblique muscle. And that’s OK. I’ll feel you’re laughing with me, not at me. (Sort of.) So here goes:
Georgia has the mighty Gators where they want them.
I know, I know. It sounds like the dumbest line I’ve ever written, which would make it the dumbest line in the history of lines. But the Bulldogs will play in Jacksonville on Halloween with nobody expecting them to do anything but lose by six touchdowns, and that’s not a bad way to approach such an opponent.
“We having nothing to lose,” A.J. Green said Saturday. “We know we have a chance [against Florida]. We’re going to go down there and play hard and play fast and play physical.”
I know, I know. You’re saying: What evidence exists to suggest Georgia is capable of doing any of the above, let alone all of it? Saturday’s game? Hey, that was against Vandy. And I hear that, too. The Bulldogs led by just seven points after 40 minutes and outgained the SEC’s worst offense by only 103 yards. But it was, I submit, better than losing.
And let’s be honest: After what happened last week in this state, we weren’t sure Georgia would win again this season. But they won 34-10 Saturday and got incrementally better. Said quarterback Joe Cox: “All three phases [offense, defense and special teams] played well. We really needed a game where we all played well.”
Georgia ran the ball harder and better, at least in the second half. The defense didn’t allow Vandy quarterback Larry Smith to turn into Joe Montana, or even Jonathan Crompton. The great Green made another great play, turning a sideline hitch into a 65-yard touchdown. It wasn’t the greatest performance in the history of football, but it was the best Georgia has looked in 2009.
I know, I know. It was still just Vandy, and this Vanderbilt team is a shadow of the past few. But with all the negativity swirling around Georgia, it was a heartening first step.
Said linebacker Rennie Curran: “Coach kept telling us we have to represent the guys who’ve worn the jersey before, the guys who had the ‘G’ on their helmet and who might not have appreciated the way we’ve been playing. Now the weight’s been lifted. We know we’ve still got an opportunity to do great things this season.”
Like give regal Florida a royal run? “Yeah, why not?” said freshman Orson Charles, a Florida native. “We had an edge today. We’d heard our coaches were going to get fired, but we listened to them. We had a team meeting [Tuesday] and just talked. We broke everything down and said we had to put it in the past.”
Said Mike Bobo, the offensive coordinator who worked from the sideline this day: “A lot of people don’t give this team a lot of credit, and I’m talking about Vanderbilt. But they’re a tough team, and to get something going gave us some confidence. I hope that can carry over against Florida.”
I know, I know. It sounds silly. But it sounded pretty silly two years ago to think that a Georgia team that had been blown out in Knoxville and needed a late Vandy fumble to survive here would go to Jacksonville after a bye week and unhorse the reigning national champ. And remind me again: How’d that one turn out?

At least we can say we hung points on the board that Vandy’s not given up but once in the last 2 1/2 years. That’s saying SOMETHING, isn’t it?
The way Florida’s playing (so far) today, why can’t this team play ‘em tough? I could see a low-scoring affair happening – ’cause Florida can’t stretch the field with a passing game, and that’s where teams ARE able to beat us.

There is a better chance of South Cackalackey beating Alabama by a final score of 65 to 3 tonight than there is of CWM Defense AND CMB offense beating the Gators.
It is just so disheartening for me to admit that, but after last years debacle, and now this year, I just have no more faith in that kind of thing with this poorly coached team.
They have NO FIRE. NO DESIRE. NO WILL TO WIN.

I want to be straight up with everyone. Yes, if UF loses tonight, we could technically win the SEC yet. I hope that happens. Look at how our stats stack up nationally though. I don’t think we can pull it off.
Our offense: 97th nationally
Our defense: 75th nationally
I’m pulling for the Dawgs. We have a lot of talent. Now–if we can just get our coaches to get it together. It was encouraging to see Bobo down on the field with the team. Now, if he will just stop calling Toss Sweeps. Never again do I want to see a Toss Sweep.

I’m really worried about next year. Will UGA take a chance on a former Gator now in a JUCO, Cameron Newton? http://tinyurl.com/yhccbpa He’s burning up the JUCO ranks. Will UGA take a chance consider we don’t have a QB for the future.

Mark, Our running game was not any better today until we got ahead late. In fact it was worse. The best runner I saw all day was Dontavius Jackson. He ran hard. How can we beat Fla when we refuse to throw to AJ Green more than we do. What did we throw toward him i the second half. 2 or 3 times. Our defense played hard but Vandy had no playmakers. After watching the Florida game and Alabama games this year, it is clear that the little 10 should leave the SEC to the Gators, Tide, and the officials who love them so much. Georgia would’ve been called for offensive pass interference, illegal motion, and holding on Florida’s winning drive. Florida got called for none of them. The pass interference in the end zone against Arkansas was debatable and the personal foul should cost someone their job. If they are not cheating, it illustrates how the officiating crews give Florida (and Alabama) the benefit of the doubt when they see something out of the corner of their eye. I’ve seen enough. Slive needs to address it openly or the league will start losing credibility.

It’s college football. GA torched Arkie and the final that night was by 11. UF had to have a gift-wrapped win against the ‘Hogs in G’ville today to dodge a big bullet. Can the ‘Dogs win? Of course they can. Even the CBS crew was talking about the calls against Arkie in UF’s last TD. UF was pass-interfering and it was called on Arkie. Finally, if Mallett had hit just a couple more clutch passes, it wouldn’t have been that close. As it is: still Christmas in October compliments of SEC refs.

On top of it all, can anyone tell me why Tebow didn’t get excessive celebration after the fourth and two he converted? Did he ever acknowledge a teammate? Did he gesture at the crowd? Did he draw attention to himself? What is so disturbing is that A.J. Green is a star but got called in a critical situation. Tebow doesn’t. It just makes me sick to my stomach.

Folks, the fix is in in the SEC. First, congrats to my Dawgs…good game and good win. The SEC has mandated the officials to give bias and use their discretionary calls to the highest ranked team, as evidenced by the UF/AK game and the UGA/LSU game as well. It is so obvious that the CBS crew has even acknowledged it. Get rid of these bozo officials (mainly hospital administrators and lawyers), and hire some professionals. Why? It’s all about the money…TV contracts, BSC rankings and bowls, etc. Mike Sleeze has done a great job with the TV contracts, but he better tell his refs to be more discrete. But, it’s always about the money.

Well I hopr this will shut up the anti Joe cox fans. He played like the UGA qb we all knew he was. Play him and the Greene conections and I see no way we lose another game. Joe will probally go in the top 20 picks in the draft. We will probally end up in a BCS bowl but because of officals in earlier games only finish in the top 5. Go JOE COX you redheaded wonder.

The pass interference call looked like it should have been offensive pass interference if anything. I don’t think it is a conscous decision, but the refs did hand Florida 30 yards on that drive.
As far as Tebow’s antics, when he does it the refs view it as him just being so intense, focused and leading his team. He is “willing his team to victory” as the media keeps saying. When anyone else does anything remotely similar, it is excessive celebration.

Georiga 87…Tebow does not have many come from behind victories in the fourth quarter because the Gators are rarely ever behind in the fourth quarter!!!! Also, the refs make calls. The players win or lose games on the field. The call against Georgia did not cause them to lose. Georiga’s poor play after the call did. Same today. The Gators D stood up when Arkansas got into the red zone area. Arkansas didn’t. Also, their kicker missed. The Gators’ kicker didn’t. This is how you win championships. Georgia will learn this lesson some day, maybe. So will Georgia fans…but I doubt it. I guess now that you beat the powerhouse Vandy team, who lost to that other power team Army, you guys are now back in the national championship picture and all those Georgia fans who jumped off the bandwagon last week have now jumped back on and blaming the refs for everything that does not go there way. Good luck with that.

browndog…the personal foul call was one of the worse calls I have ever seen (even worse than the call made on Green). But the pass interfernce call could have gone either way and it usually goes against the defensive player in that situation…almost every time. Still, the refs don’t win or lose games for teams. Teams do. Arkansas could not make the plays it needed to in order to win the game. The Gators, especially Tebow, Cooper, and Sturgis, did…big time. That is why the Gators have been and remain a championship type team…every year. Florida was obviously flat from the LSU game (and had 4 turnovers to boot), but the Gators had it in them not to quit (like another team I know that was in Knoxville recently) and find a way to win…like the champions they are.

Georgia can beat Florida but with coaching that we have on offense and defense probably not!! The coaches better put some fire in the boys!!! They better coach to win instead of not to lose!!! Arkansas lost to them today because they played not to lose!!! On 3rd and 4 you run just because you are in field goal range!!! Come on even if Arkansas gets the field goal Florida would have at least tied it and went to overtime!!!! Arkansas had them on the ropes and didn’t try to put them away!!!! They should have thrown it on 3rd and if they didn’t get it went on 4th!!!!! They had to get a touchdown and run more time off the clock!!!! Florida isn’t as good on defense as people think!!! They haven’t faced a decent team with any passing skills until today. Look what happened!!! Florida gets the lead then when they know u have to throw it they blitz and get to the qb!!!! If we beat Florida it will because we could throw the ball!!! We haven’t ran the ball on anybody in 6 games and what did we keep trying 2 do today!!! I think we can score on the Gaytors don’t think we will stop them very often though!!! If we can cover there te hernandez and wr Cooper we can slow them down!!!! Do you hear me MARTINEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mark: After seeing the LOUSY calls against ARkansas. AFter seeing the LOUSY calls against Ga versus LSU, and you can go on and on.. How about telling the SEC/NCAA that their “points of emphasis” has RUINED the college football game. Let’s make the “point of emphasis” to call the game properly according to ALL the rules and cut out this crap that certain penalties will be looked for over other penalties. This emphasis on protecting “defenseless” players has had a huge impact on college football games. Players don’t know what to do and its obvious the Refs have NO clue what to do. Take the billion dollars that the SEC gets and hire some professional referees. I have had it with guys who sell life insurance for state farm during the week showing up and messing up great SEC football games.

We will not beat FL for one reason and one reason only
This coaching staff does not take this game seriously, never has never will
It shows every year on the field with play calling, and players emotions
Meyer and Spurrier both have talked about the importance of the game in seriousness and with sarcasim as well and it shows year after year
I’ve talked to players who played with Dooly and they said Dooly took the game very seriously
Maybe if our AD gets into some coaches head that championships are won through FL we might win this matchup again

Good Game Today Dawgs! Of course UGA can win in Jacksonville, this is the SEC. We survived Arkansas today after some very sloppy play and will have to clean up a little bit. I think Arkansas was last years Mississippi State game for the Gators and Florida is going to wake up a little bit after today. The offense looked sloppy but the defense is still playing fantastic and will anticipate the return of their leader Brandon Spikes after playing most of the game without him today. Anyway I don’t think the Dawgs will win but anything could happen. The defense will have to play their best game of the year.

Guys this was VANDY today. Try to come back down to Earth. Beating Vandy does not translate into beating Florida (or Auburn either for that matter). Arkansas had a brilliant, absolutely brilliant, defensive plan today for Florida. Was Tebone sacked 6 or 7x? I lost count. But had their FG kicker not choked they’d have won. If you think Willie Martinez is capable of coming up with that kind of defensive plan, you are honorary members of the Blind Homer Society of Athens…and drinking some strong stuff so please pass the bottle.

If by some miracle UGA beats FLA…the only way this happens is UGA plays a “perfect game” and FLA “well plays like they did today…below average”.
If FLA plays like they normally do, UGA has no chance of beating them this year.
FLA has the better defense and offense. They have Tebow. UGA has…*pause for dramatic effect*…Joe Cox! Noodle arm QB who is a backup in the SEC and is starting only b/c CMR is a complete loyalist and refuses to play the most talanted players at each position. Another reason why Brian Evans starts ahead of B. Rambo in the secondary (as an example).
UGA has 5 RB now…meaning we have NO RB. We are not Bama, where they go 3 deep at tailback (where the difference is…every one of those guys can carry the rock 25+ times a game). UGA has no such tailback right now therefore we are forced to trot out 4 to 5 guys and hope (one gets hot).
Last but not least…UGA is very young at many of the skill positions, dudes are still making mistakes…Wooten with the stupid pentaly today (another example).
So no Mark, I don’t believe there is a way UGA can beat FLA this year. I hope they prove me wrong, but FLA is the number 1 team in the country. Logic says we don’t have much of a shot at all.

Tampagator, you know that you fl is not as good as you were last year and you know it. The lost of Percy Harvin to the pro’s has exposed a weakness in the gators. Other than Tebow, fl does not have a power back or power receiver. Neutralize Tebow on his 20+ runs and making the teams 1st dns.and the team is doable for a loss. What are you going to do for power next year? Brantley? No, I think if Weis leaves, Meyer leaves as well especially if fl does not win the SEC or NCd. Offer him six ND and I bet he goes.

takedowndawg…I agree with you, Meyer is going to leave a talent rich program in Gainesville that is only going to get more talent rich after this year’s recruiting class, leave a future first round QB at Florida (yes, Brantley) who still has 2 years left there and go to a Notre Dame team that will not have a proven QB, will forget that he will have Debose and Moore back next year at WR (from injuries) plus Thompson and others, will forget he returns half of his defense and everyone one of the two deep players (most 4 and 5 stars) that will step in for them next year, and go to Notre Dame that barely has enough star players to start, leave a program where most of your recruiting is done in one state to go to a program that requires you to recruit players in California, Hawaii, New York, Texas, etc, etc. and where you have to fight every big time program in those states for those players vs. recruiting only against one good program in Florida (that’s Miami, not FSU). Also, he is going to forget he is making over 4 mill a year at Florida and his family loves living in Gainesville with they best friends, the Billy Donavan family (who know first hand why not to leave the Gator program) and move that family to cold, South Bend, Indiana where he no longer has any contacts of family connections. Yeah, Urban Meyer is a highly intelligent man and he will, for sure, forget all that and head to Notre Dame next year. Keep believing that and see where that gets you. Plus, Florida does not play the 2008 Florida football team. If they did, they would probably lose by 4 or 5 points to them. All they have to do is beat everyone on their schedule this year, which I think they are capable of doing. If they do, the will win the National Championship for the 3rd time in 4 years…yet another good reason for Meyer to bolt for the wonderland of South Bend. Makes perfect sense too me!!! Yep, I agree with your line of thinking completely. You obviously put a lot of thought and supported your thinking with facts that make sense to me. Yep, I think you hit it right on the head. The Gators are not as good as the 2008 Gators and Meyer is a goner to the Irish.

Yes Mark, if UF plays the way it did today by fumbling the ball 4 times and missing wide open TD passes, anything is possible. That should have been a 24 point win instead of an escape. I was in the Swamp today and the two most words spoken was not “Go Gators”, it was “Ole Miss”. Florida lost to SEC West teams in the Swamp during it’s recent 2 National Championships and still has Miss State away in a State where Florida has struggled badly. If they play that way in Starkeville, it will be an embarassment. But hopefully today, we have got it out of our system. Maybe this is the team, despite it’s lack of recievers, that can do it. Stay tuned.

I wouldn’t say Georgia is going to win in J’ville or anything, but even before today, I’d say I see no reason why the Dogs can’t compete with the Gators.
Uf’s defense is really tough but offensively it looks like it lacks the downfield capabilities it has had in years past. Get a few turnovers and get some pressure up the middle (which is very possible) and UGA can hang right there.
I’m guessing the spread, since it’s a neutral field, will have Florida laying about 15. If I had to decide today based on that number, I’d take the points.
The year has been a tough one in Athens so the team’s emotional state will be vital but there are enough athletes at Georgia to make it a compelling game.

If you don’t believe me, just stroll on over to the Knoxville News Sentinel comments section, which is full of losers, and see what they’re all talking about! There’s not a team in existence who hasn’t been “robbed” be an officials call. For years, UF has been one of the most penalized teams in the SEC, so I’m not some big advocate of the referees. But the truth is, that in 99% of the games, the calls even out and don’t determine the outcome. And it didn’t today.

Good win for the Dawgs today. Basically they did what they were supposed to do which is more than I thought they would do. UGA may have a decent chance against Florida. With the bi week they get 2 weeks to prepare and get players healthy. Florida’s offense doesn’t look all that great but the defense is stout.
Ark got hosed by the officials on the pass interference and personal foul calls. That was possibly another game changer like what happened to UGA vs LSU.

If he can for once put together a solid game from start to finish we may actually have a chance, but he has yet to do that. He is still missing guys who are open with inacurate throws. A lot of the times Bobo is blamed for play calling when actually Cox is missing or overlooking open guys. And that running game is of non existence so play calling is limited if you can’t run the ball.
Defense will have to hold Florida to 17 points or less to win that game and I don’t see that happening.

Many spectulate that a change at defensive coordinater is needed, and I agree. However, rumors that Martinez could be “demoted” to supposedly go back to a d-backs coach. Well my bet is that any new DC will want them all there to leave, at least Willie for sure. What do you think…..? Could CWM stay, and would that affect other potentiai coaches decisions whether or not to take the job?
If Im a Kirby Smart or Will Muschamp, I want them to cleam house and let me bring in the asst. coaches of “my” choosing.

You are right. I’m laughing at you. Let me remind everyone that Vandy is 2-4 and lost to Army. In other words, they are, by no means, a good football team. Not to mention that just because Arkansas gave Florida a hard time (and we beat Arkansas, I know) does not mean we can do the same. Arkansas played VERY physical defense, which is something the dawgs have yet to do. Brian Evans continues to look aweful. Bottom line, Willie Martinez must go. Nobody should forget that or we will all be watching this crap for years to come, and we will keep saying the same things we have already been saying for the past year and a half. Mark Richt is a good coach, and I believe that he can do great things with Georgia. However, the whole defensive staff must go. They are still horrible, no matter how well they played against Vandy (who sucks). The verdict is still out on Bobo, and Georgia didn’t actually run well until the end of the game.

I love the Dawgs, but Georgia is an average football team. Yes, they might get lucky and play Florida close. In fact, Florida just finished its 2nd close game of the season by edging past SC. I don’t see UGA winning against Florida. We don’t have a secret weapon, and if they put any pressure on Cox he throws an interception or gets sacked. Our backfield is suspect, and our defense only shows up FULLY on occasion. Florida just won its 16th game in a row….the longest active streak. And by the way – Get this: Alabama just won and will go to 7-0. THIS IS THE 4TH SEASON IN A ROW THAT ALABAMA HAS STARTED 7-0. HOW MANY SEASONS HAS UGA EVER, EVER DONE THAT IN A ROW????????? We need new coaches and/or we need a new game plan. PERIOD.

Those two calls the refs made on Arkansas in that last Florida TD drive – the pass interference and the unnecessary roughness were the worst since the celebration on A J Green in LSU – clearly the refs didn’t want to see UF beaten by the Hogs. And while we’re on it, tell me what’s the difference in Georgia’s kid slamming the ball after a catch and Vandy’s guy throwing Joe Cox’s towel twenty feet in the air after that sack? If one is ‘excessive celebration’, then they both are. Guess it’s just because we’re the ones with the target on our back.

Georgia played pretty well today, but as many have pointed out, it was Vandy. And Mark, as much as we Dawg fans would love to see it, no way Georgia, or any SEC team, beats Florida as long as the SEC refs have decided they’re the anointed ones. Don’t get me wrong, I hate the ba$tard gators but, obviously they’re a very talented team. However, our biased SEC refs made it very clear today that when the mighty gators are down and need a little help to get over the hump, they need look no further than the men in the pinstripes. 30 yards from two totally BS penalties to set up UFs last TD, and almost no calls all day against UF for a myriad of obvious infractions (including holding, celebration, taunting, etc….) that, had the Dawgs or most any other SEC team (except maybe ‘Bama) done the same thing, the yellow laundry would’ve littered the field. After watching that travesty unfold, I’d have to agree with some of the other posters here that it sure looks as if the fix is in. If it walks like a duck, etc… can you say quack quack!

I read somewhere that the officials in the Florida-Arkansas were the same that worked the UGA-Lsu game. If that’s true , they ought to be run out of the league. I don’t question their ability, I question their integrity. The pass interference call against Arkansas was terrible. The personal foul call was worse and then the no call on obvious offensive pass interference against the Gators was so blatently one sided it’s not even funny.

SC surprised me with their lack of aggression to a degree. Norwood was taken out of the picture all night it seemed. But the Elephants can be beat. Who can’t..? It was a very good win by the dawgs today, but unfortunately i just don’t see that we have what it will take to be the gators, yes they do look vunerable, but their defense is just too good and whether anyone from the gator nation wants to admit it they do get the benefit of the refs calls, especially Tebow, i have been saying for a long time that Tebow can do his little celebrations and get away withe it but when others do it, it is called excessive celebration, of course i don’t think too much of this dumb rule anyhow…the calls or non calls on Ark were bad, its hard enough to whip the gators anyway, but when is fairly obvious that this team is protected by the SEC it is going to be difficult to knock them off…The SEC wants a showdown between Bama and the Gators, and maybe that is the way it should be…Any team that thinks they will get the benefit of a call against the gators is sadly mistaken….

The unlikely conditions that must exist in order for UGA to defeat the Gators: a very prodigious supply of luck, the Dawgs forget to commit lots of penalties, the dawgs forget how easy it is to make stupid mistakes, the officials happen to see all of the Gators penalties ….and then some, the football always bounces in a manner that is favorable to the Dawgs, Joe Cox accidentally throws only great passes with perfect touch, UGA receivers forget how to drop passes, UGA coaches accidentally use their imagination in play calling, UGA linemen come under some unknown hypnotic spell that causes them to deeply resent that they have been pushed around so easily all year, the UGA running backs accidentally read their blocks and are hipnotized into a trance that causes them to quadruple their efforts, and finally….nearly all the Gators catch the flu at precisely game time on Game Day and are not permitted to play. Should these few conditions be met, it is entirely possible that the Dawgs could whip the Gators; otherwise it is going to be a very, very long day for the Dawg Nation.

I got so bored, I went to Sam’s Club and shopped it up. This win changes nothing. the Gator’s still win by 3-4 TD’s. BTW, to all the “Old Gold” alums, nice win tonight. Just goes to show what competent coaching can accomplish. Still think CMR and D.Evans are gonna have to earn some of those big salaries and make a bunch of changes at season’s end. TampaGator – Tim Tebow is 2-5 when trailing in the fourth quarter. Joe Cox is 4-3. The same number of games. Tebow is a great player, but he is not the greatest in CFB history. BTW, that crap about officials not winning and losing games sounds good but is an oversimplification and you know it. Ask OK against OR, MO against NE or CO, ad nauseum. Why do you think we have instant replay? The fans got so tired of games being changed in front of their eyes they demanded it. Your excuse will be “great teams overcome those calls”. I have watched people valiantly fight cancer and yet still die. What happened? They were courageous, smart, full of faith and hope, had the best medical care, etc, but still died. Why? The odds were just too big to overcome. Smae thing in football…it is just a microcosm of life. That is why we all enjoy it. Save your trite expressions for when Tebow graduates. The answer to your question, Bradley, is no. Vandy is in sad shape this year and simply does not have the personnel. Georgia still has fundamental problems with the coaching staff which Richt must address when the season ends. Arkansas has shown much improvement since the beginning of the season and Petrino, whatever people may think, is a pretty good coach. The Vandy game was simply the eye of the hurricane.

This team has no personality/identity to hang their hat’s on…they never set the tone…they play up, or down to their opponents…they don’t dictate the flow of the game; they’re in reactive mode all the time…they have individual play-makers, but there is no team…the leader has to be the guy that touches the ball every play, he’s the one who has to set the tone, make it happen…he doesn’t have to be a superstar, but he must be able to at least manage the offense, execute the game plan, whether that be handing off the ball, or hitting the critical 3rd and long if the play is there…too often this doesn’t happen, what happens is a badly delivered ball, thus the old rally killer…who knows what this offense would have been capable of if only the QB could make a play, convert a 3rd and long, keep the D on the sidelines and give them a break once in a while, keep the opponent’s D on the field…no one fears Cox and his noodle of an arm…heck, by him having to take every Wednesday off to rest it, tells that you can’t depend on him if it turns into a shoot-out…the OC & DC’s scheme’s don’t have a chance to work, there’s no flow to the O, and the D can’t stop every play if the opposing team get chance after chance, while the O is on the sidelines w/ a water bottle…that game should have been a blow out, however your QB comes out again and becomes the rally killer…glad to hear that “the Leaders” finally had a players only meeting, but what took so long…the moniker of this team should be “Wait till next year”…if UGA can hold onto this group of freshman, think back and say “What could have been” and what a wasted year this has been…

I have never seen such outright bad oficiating on that last drive – two bogus calls on Arkansas that moved Fla. 30 yards down the field in no time. As for the Dawgs – they got a little better – they won – they have a much needed week off after a brutal schedule. Florida is not invincible – no team is. Even if dawgs play over their heads and compete with UF, SEC won’t let it happen. Tight coverage, holding, unsportsman like, late hits, etc. are not called equally among the SEC teams. UF got helped out yesterday and Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt as well. It could be the same as the big east refs trying to get WVU in the NC game in 2007, or there could be other factors in the favoritism. UGA has never been a favorite among the SEC refs.
UGA usually has to beat 2 opponents and when the opponent is a team a good as UF, there really isn’t a chance.

It was Vandy, but Florida isn’t that good. They should have lost yesterday to Arkansas, if it weren’t for Ark missing 2 FG’s, and UF getting every possible garbage call imaginable. Their offense is horrible. Of course UGA’s defense will cure a lot of their problems though.

Oh, I just love it. Beating Vandy is some sort of validation that the Dogs still have something left in the tank! Shows the old guard fans and players that they can be proud of their team! Do you Dawg fans realize how far you’ve fallen? Is there a single game remaining on your schedule where you can say with a straight face that you will come in as the favorite? OK, other than Tennessee Tech?
Get ready for this: UGA ends the season 6-6 (4-4) and NO Bowl!!!

Ok Breath all. Let’s take this win over a much malign team and look at it as a stepping stone in the right direction. Do we beat FL in two weeks? Odds are no. Anything can happen and that is why they play the games but even though the Dogs showed some movement in the right direction the core problems still exist. I flip between is it the poor play from the players as they are the ones on the field or poor coaching of those players to bring them back to the level of a good SEC team. It is the coaches responsibility to correct mistakes and teach as well as rating talent to put the best players on the field while bring along the 2nd and 3rd level players. I just know if one or both problems are not honestly addressed by CMR they remain the same. I am realistic on the remainder of this year. FL I don’t see us overcoming our shortfalls. It should be close but thank God for the last season we will see the Tebow draw. Tenn Tech should be on the same lines as Vandy as long as the team gets over the loss to FL. Auburn and Kentucky after watching those two play the last two weeks I still have no idea what they have. If Ga. shows up like they did against Tenn. then both will look like all SEC teams. Toss up on both. Ahhhh, now GT. I have my soap ready to wash my mouth out with but we have not shown the defensive ability to cover a triple option with speed and power nor and offense that can keep up with the scoring that will have to happen. As much as it pains me and yes m it still hurts Tech should win this one as they go into the ACC Champ game. Ok now time to wash my mouth out with that soap. Here’s to winning all we can and taking into next year a renewed commitment to succeed. GO DAWGS….SIC EM….WOOF WOOF WOOF>

very possible….the gators won the game against the hogs thanks again to horrible calls by the refs…the tying TD was a gift from the refs. a pass interference call that was really bad and then an unsportsmanlike call if anything should have been against Florida, really, really bad call and both back to back to move the ball to the ten..wasn’t much of an agenda was it referees? Arkansas manhandled Florida and again, if not for the obvious one sided calls, Arkansas wins. We hang a ton of points on Arkansas and Florida struggles to score? Yeah, we have a chance, especially considering the Dawgs tendency to heat up strong as the season goes along

Good morning dog nation,
Please blog with me after the BCS rankings come out this afternoon. I still have a fat head but my “buzz” is beginning to wear off and my fingers have thawed out a bit from ribbing you during your big win over Vandy from my tailgate tent on the trashless Tech campus with Two kegs and Twenty Tech fans! PRICELESS.
georgia can beat Florida in two weeks if
1. Tech says you can
2. It begins snowing very heavily during the coin toss in Jacksonville you know that Hell is in deed freezing over and YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!.
3. Florida turns the ball over 6 or more times.
4. Vince Doley, Hershal Walker and Lindale Scott are part of the officiating crew.
5. georgia adds some flexbone to their pro style-toss sweep-offense this week
6. georgia coaches watch a little film for a change.
7. georgia players stop reading what THEIR fans write about them over the next two weeks.
So here’s to you ole Queen of 316.
At georgia, you fit the mold. At Georgia Tech, we make the mold.

Mark,
I agree with your logic and hope for an upset but I’m afraid the upset that could have been wasn’t…
Arkansas caused multiple Gator turnovers and would have won the game if not for two blatantly bad calls by the refs which led to a Gator TD. Two missed FGs by Ark and two missed TDs by Ark! A great game to watch. Too bad the better Team that day did not win.
Ark should have won that game and I was amazed how well they moved the ball against the No. 1 Defense in the country.
UF has not looked good against tough teams this season – and neither have we but I think they will put it all back together against The Dawgs. I’d sure love to see The Dawgs knock off No.1 though!

We talked about Floriduh on the way home. I do believe Georiga can beat Floriduh. Here's the reason why, Teebow is still unsure of himself. He's trying, but there's more hesitation in play on the field. The team looks to him. God bless him, he's trying, but you can see it in his hesitation. If the dawg's defense first series is strong it could level the playing field & set the pace for game. Florida can be beat!

FL looked vulnerable Saturday vs the hogs but they still won in spite of 5 sacks, terrible calls by officials in 4th qtr, 4 fumbles, etc. Its not the same FL team as last year but they still win. The hogs played inspired ball especially on D. The hogs for the most part snuffed the run except in the 4th qtr when tebow took control against a tired D, ran and hit some crucial passes to set up the winning FG.
To think Willie can duplicate the same D as AR is wishful thinking. To think Bobo can pull off a miracle vs the FL D is also wishful thinking. As much as we all want the Dawgs to win vs FL they still have to get a lot better because the win vs Vandy is no reflection of how they’ll perform against a much better D in FL.
I’d rather be pleasantly surprised if GA wins than allow being set up for failure and realize this is not vandy the dawgs are playing but a much better team that has dominated GA on both sides of the ball for the majority of the time CMR and his coaches have been at UGA.

Agree with HH above. The Vandy win was simply the “eye in the hurricane.” Further, those of you just now getting around to complaining about the officiating in the SEC, it’s been B-A-A-D for years. That was the implied reason for going to a replay. The Commissioner’s Office could no longer overlook the poor officiating. No doubt, the “fix” to a degree is in. We are 7 games into the season, and the possibility of the #’s 1 & 2 teams in the polls playing for the SEC Championship is a definite possibility. Think what a boon this would be to the already powerful SEC. The roof of the Dome would literally be coming off. And the media attention would be incredible. I do give a bouquet to CBS for juxtaposing the Tebow celebration with A.J. Green’s a couple of weeks ago. It’s more than I would have expected from a mainstream media company with direct ties to the SEC gravey train. But, these realities aside, this is the way the game is played nowdays. Players and coaches need to adjust to the realities. I would give the ‘Dogs little hope of defeating the ‘Gators. Still too many core problems that a win against what is more like a D-II program can cure.

spankler, I would agree with your point that Mark Richt has been stubborn to a great fault this year. Loyality is not the same as stubbornness. Cox was not our best opinion and CWM was not a good DC last year and has not been this year as well. Janeck, did you ever inform your linebackers that they are responisble for TE’s and RB’s coming out of the backfield. No spankler, I have not been happy with the leadership this year nor the inconsistency on both sides of the ball. But, I do support the university of graduated from and the state that I grew up in. But being a northern transplant I can understand you not wanting to supporting a southern team. Why not Miami, it is a northern team. I lived in Fl for 14 years spankler.

Yep…the entire world is causing Florida to win…the refs especially, but also the CBS heads, the decision makers in the SEC headquarters, the ESPN talking heads, “them all” are Gator lovers and Georgia haters…but especially those refs. Urban is obviously taking some of his 4 mill salary and paying off the refs so he can unjustly win yet another NC…how unfair of “them all” and how unfair to Georgia. They even tried to stop us from beating that powerhouse Vandy team that just barely lost to those former national champions from Army. If we can beat Vandy, which just barely lost by a few points to a former national champion like Army, then Georgia must be much better than them cheating, ref loving Gators. And the only reason the Georgia Bulldogs aren’t #1 right now is because of the refs, who always make the Gators win, always cause the Dawgs to lose. Seriously, it sounds to me like some of you out there need some serious psycholoical counseling.

Mark, I am certainly happy UGA won the game, but to think that the DAWGS have a chance against FLA is truly delusional. This years version of Vandy is quite possibly the worst team they have fielded in years.
Let’s also look at the fact that both teams (UGA & FLA) have bye weeks, & will have more time to prepare. If you honestly are willing to match UGA’s staff against Meyer and his crew, then good luck. How much more evidence do you need to know that this current coaching staff is HORRIBLE and change needs to occure. If by some slim chance UGA wins, then we will be stuck with Richt backing this b.s. for several more years.

You must’ve not watched the game. Mysterious PI calls called on Arky. UF had a blatant PI, but of course, it wasn’t called on them. Also, the winning touchdown from the LSU game should’ve been called back.

To the coaching staff- The keys to beating Florida are as follows:
1-pressure Tebow with blitz packages, our secondary is athletic enough to go one on one with their recievers.
2-tell our defensive line to rush with their hands up
3-have Cox throw more on first down
4-thow to Ealey in open space
5-play Charles more
6-eliminate the delayed hand off in our offensive scheme
7-do not run to the short side of thr field
8-Richt needs to come out with intensity, this will help the refs not take advantage of his carefree attitude.

I don’t see any way UGA beats UF. We have a one-dimensional offense and the university could make extra revenue by contracting with Goodyear to advertise on Cox’s passes. Martinez has either forgotten how to scheme or how to coach because his players are on 11 different pages out there. I think the outcome will be similar to last year even though they’re not quite as good as last year and we’re much, much worse. UGA is a second-tier SEC program right now, even though we recruit first-tier. With a Paul Johnson or a Nick Saban, we would be first-tier with the talent that we have. As HC you gotta set the right tone and get no-excuses people under you.

Celebrating a victory over Vanderbilt? And a bad Vandy team at that?
And now you want to suggest that Florida can be beaten?
What a joke.
First, of course, Florida can be beaten. We saw that last year with Ole Miss and the Razorbacks almost did it yesterday. In fact, as was mentioned several times last year, Florida hasn’t gone undefeated in the SEC in years. The fact that UGA has only beaten them twice in the last dozen years is a real issue that doesn’t get mentioned enough.
Second, beating Vandy should not be such a cause for celebration among the UGA players, coaches, and fans. That to me shows how far down their expectations had fallen.
Mark Richt’s record in his first 62 games in the SEC was 50 wins and 12 losses.
The more interesting question isn’t whether this team might beat Florida.
The more interesting question is what has been the programs record since that start, especially the last 2 1/2 years.

The UF/ARK was a great game. 2 reasons why ARK did not win and it has nothing to do with the refs. 1) ARK’s QB stunk up the joint. He missed to wide open WRs for TDs. At the end of the first half he held the ball to long on a stupid play call. Throw it out the back of the EZ, and start anew. 2) the ARK defense while they played their heart’s out (UGA should take notes), They were just worn down in the 4 qt. They stuffed Tebow and the run game for 3 1/2 qts. They were gassed. While there were 3 horrible officiating calls on UF’s last drive, That missed FG by ARK hurt more. ARK answered that TD and would have walked out a winner if not for the missed FG. That game was set for an upset. I said at halftime, ARK was letting UF stay in the game. Tebow and co. had 3 first half funbles, all three in the red zone. Mallet needed to make plays, but he sucked it up like Jevon Snead.

One thing on the officiating. The AJ Green celebration call was horrible, but UGA did not make the stop they needed to and LSU won. The BS pass interference call on ARk was crap. The PF on the ARK player was crap, but ARK did not make the plays they needed to. My problem with the officiating is that the players don’t get to decide the game on the field. It destoys the flow of a game. That UF/ARK was a GREAT game that was robbed of its greatness because once again the Refs had to interject themselves into the game for some exposure. The SEC really needs to take a look at this in the off season.

I think for UGA to have a chance, they need to play the younguns. On offense there has to be a plan to get the ball to Charles (he is ready for a breakout game). They also need to throw more to Wooten and King. Those 2 are also ready, and they will open up chances for AJ. Ealy also needs to start and get the bulk of the carries with Thomas and King backing him up. Caleb shows great hands out of the backfield. Maybe they do more with him in the passing game and not just screens.
The defense will have their hands full but, I am starting Rambo, Boykin, and Smith with #9 Jones in the secondary. #3 Evans only sees the field on STs. The front 7 will be rotating alot, but I would like to see Rennie, Williams, and Gamble at LB. If UGA plays the 3-3-5, put Williams at safety. I also say start Geno at end oppisite Houston with Kade and Owens sharing the NT. This will be a high scoring game. UGA will have to force a shootout to have a chance. UGA can do this with Charles, King, and Wooten. With the extra week off, look for a package with Gray, and I mean more than the zone read where Gray always keeps the ball. Look for some zone read ala Tebow with a passing deminsion.

Mark, you’re insane. UT — and Jonathan Crompton, more specifically — looked like an offensive force to be reckoned with against these guys. I get that UF hasn’t looked that great; but they haven’t had the chance to play UGA’s defense yet, and that’s the medicine that will cure all offensive illnesses. The game will be a joke, much like UGA’s team. 45-42, ladies, and this year it’s gonna be worse.

Mark, you’re idea is not as retarded as it appears on the surface. However, it’s not really a matter of where we have Florida from an advantage perspective. The idea is on any given Saturday anything can happen, so UGA has much of an opportunity to win as any team. It’s been less than 24 months since we beat Florida and if this team believes in themselves anything is possible, although a miracle wouldn’t hurt.

After watching the game against Vandy, it’s painfully obvious it isn’t our running backs, but our blocking schemes(ya’ll listen to a man that knows football)out of seven games, I’ve seen Boling get 5 critical holding calls,Vince Vance as big as he is, isn’t light on his feet. The whole season M. Bobo has been taking a beating(and rightfully so), but Coach Searels needs to find the right mix at O-Line and keep them there. Vandy’s D-Line looked stout in the first half, and at times completely dominated. Caleb King isn’t hitting the hole with power, Samuel has a problem holding the ball, and seems to think you can run over everybody, so this comes down to Ealey, and C. Thomas. Thomas has truly been impressive, but everybody knows good backs got to touch the pigskin. Ealey, I wait for next year, because he’ll really get it, plus have a year of college weight conditioning under his belt. The guy I was truly impressed with though was D.Jackson. Coaches get him the ball on the outside…… We can play with Fla, but to compare competition in Nashville to that of Jacksonville, is to say we’re going backward……From sick to Nick, and back on top pretty damn quick. UGA Coaches, excuses are like rear ends, everybody has one, and at some point in the day they all stink. Get it Right!!!!!!!!!

I have the results for my first weekly Defensive Coordinator Fantasy League. I made it simple as possible, I have other responsibilities in life. I used Will Muschamp, Kirby Smart, Bud Foster and the fan favorite Willie Martinez. I would have included Chavis but he was unavailable as LSU did not play.
Five categories. Each gets ranked first through fourth. As in golf, the lower your total score wins. Ties as in golf are counted together then on to the next number. In one category there was one first and three seconds. I have not factored in strength of schedule yet, I need to figure a formula for that. Maybe later when I have a beer or several it will come to me.
This week the first through fourth is as follows.
Smart first place with an impressive 7 points. Played USCe
Coach Willie second with 12 points. It was Vandy.
Muschamp third with 13 points. Played U of not so OK
Foster fourth with 15 points. Played the Bugs, lost.
If you have a DC you would like to add for next week, let me know and I in my infinite wisdom as Commissioner of my league, will decide whether to add them. Strong, no way he is going to leave UF for UGA. Monte is not going to abandon his son. I am not convinced any of the others would either, but hey you gotta have someone for Willie to run against. Difficult to add an HC to the mix unless you count his DC.
Tune in next week for another thrilling contest.

SEC officials will not allow UF or AL to lose until they play each other. They kept UGA from beating LSU and Ark from beating UF. I hate to say it, but college football is becoming more like the WWE wrestling show. These guys arene’t just bad, they are taking sides to make the conference look better. I also think some of the celebration penalties agaist UGA stem from the fack that V. Dooley is the one responsibile for this rule and they call is on UGA just to get back at him. Most of them don’t like the rule and are using it against UGA to make a point. This rule should be done away with and a taunting rule could replace it. It’s always OK for Tebow to celebrate and for U. Myer to be 20 yards out on the field. Is that a reward for being ranked #1?
I liked this one so much I pasted it over here from the Dawg Blawg, with apologies to Math Dawg. One of the things officials should be taught and held accountable for is consistency, foremost, and secondly, let the players determine the outcome, not the officials. The Ref should NEVER be the story. This has ruined the NBA,to the point it is expected and accepted. It will ruin college football if not stopped. Seems to me it is the leagues fault, because some conferences(Big Ten for one) don’t call nearly as many as some others(SEC and Big Twelve). ESPN announcers also seem to be the worst about ignoreing bad calls or non calls.

spankler, I would agree with your point that Mark Richt has been stubborn to a great fault this year. ”
Well sounds like we agree on a few things anyway…been living in the South for over 30 yrs. and where I grew up in Pa. it’s no different than in Ga, Miss, La, or any other haven that you’re so proud of…take a look at a map of Pa and look at the center of the state, no difference, hunting, fishing, trucks, Red Man, Bud, etc. so don’t try to get all high and mighty on being a good ol boy…BTW, you graduated from UGA? Then take your time on your responses, I’m not perfect but it looks like you changed thoughts numerous times and your 2nd posting to me was hard to decipher…one of the keys when you’re trying to put someone down is to leave nothing that can used against you…spell ck is a great tool and try typing w/ both hands, or is that impossible when you get all worked up talking about your DAWGS…also, I’ve noticed you are always in attack mode, are you nothing more than a troll and just get a kick out of replying to posts

Attention dawgs, fla turned the ball over 4 times, was out 3 defensive starters one being the heart of the defense in spikes and still won the game. Championship teams find ways to win while things are not going there way. A few bad calls, maybe, but anyone who watches college football knows there are plenty of calls that never get called both ways. Arkansas had plenty of chances to win this game and simply couldn’t execute off all the turnovers and the overthrown passes by mallet. Get ready because when the gators come to jacksonville they will be ready to play!

When the SEC signed the billion dollar contract with CBS and ESPN, they “sold their souls to the devil”. Their new jobs are to make sure the 3:30 and 8:00 SEC games are the highest rated in the nation. That is the only manner they can get a return on their investment. The call on GA against LSU and the two calls yesterday, in the FL/AK games, are two great examples. The refs now have the added duty of making sure the correct team wins.

The “Georgia on-then-off bandwagon” writing is already on the wall for Jacksonville….if the Gators win, they won only because of the refs and all of Georgia’s stupid coaches, especially those Richt and Willie fellows, like last year. If the Bulldogs win, the Bulldogs will suddenly be the national champions in 2010 (like every year) and the best college football team in the SEC in the past 100 years (only the refs caused them not to be, especially from 1910 to 2009) and Richt is the best football coach ever (Dooley couldn’t carry his jockstrap)….Richt is so much better than that Urban “whatever insult I can think of next” fellow. Good luck with that Georgia bandwagon fans. Just continue jumping “on and off” the Bulldog bandwagon…especially jump back on after beating that powerhouse team, Vanderbilt, after jumping off after losing big to that terrible Tennessee team. If coached well and they play well Georgia, as with Arkansas or most SEC teams for that matter, has a chance to upset Florida. On the same note, if Florida plays its best game (and it hasn’t played its best game yet), then Florida will beat Georgia by 30 or more points. All I know is, if Georgia wins, Georgia fans will be riding high on the bandwagon. If they lose, their won’t be hardly one to be found for that bandwagon ride. And you “Georgia bandwagoners” (and not all Georgia fans are) should never think of calling a Florida fan a bandwagoner. Win Florida lost to Ole Miss last year, the Florida fans came back stronger than ever and helped the team win it all again. That is not the definition of bandwagon fans. The definition can be found on these blogs when Georgia loses to any body or beat any body…especially great teams like Vandy.

By the way, imagine how good Georgia Tech would be if they had any defense at all. Scary. That offensive scheme is something else. Almost impossible to stop if executed well by the QB. The coach at Tech is a great coach. Va. Tech has one of the best defenses in the country and they were hopeless against that offensive scheme. Problem is, if you have weeks to plan and practice for it (LSU last year) and the speed to play against it, I think Tech has issues, especially if the QB can’t pass the ball. Nesbit is excellent in that offense but the difference between him and Tebow is that Tebow can throw the ball well. Just think how good that offense would be if Tebow was Tech’s QB. Now that is really scary!!!

Florida beats Aladambama in the Dome. Ok State beats Texas. USC struggles against every nobody left on their schedule . Bama,USC and Texas w/ 1 loss are not even conference champions(this counts, remember?). Boise State and Cincinnatti ,two teams who played no one all year, play for the non-existent BCS championship and nobody watches or cares. Tampa Gator – Nice to think about, anyway. Tech is going to go after only the “Dual-Threat” QBs, and Tebow certainly is a might fine one.
I don’t think there will be a large number of different pass plays in the general playbook for Tech, since CPJ’s option depends a lot on the two WRs taking the cornerbacks out of the run scenarios in the base offense, and one of the “A” wingbacks taking the safety somewhere on the option to that side. But after the defense has all that on there minds, the drop back, or the rollout like agains FSU, and all hell is breaking loose downfield.
It’s interesting to watch, knowing that any play dialed up can go for 50 or more yards (19 times this year).

Mark,
I doubt that the Dawgs defeating UF would truly shock anyone except those of us in Dawg nation. I certainly have told several of my Dawg friends that I truly believe we beat UF this year. First, UF just has not played very well. Alabama is the best team in the SEC this year based on the play thus far. Arkansas should have won Saturday…the two missed FG’s really hurt. Florida can’t run the ball and the receivers are certainly not up to last years standard! They really have not played very well. UGA certainly has not played very well either but we do get two weeks to prepare for that game and that will make all the difference. We will be fresh – they will be worn. This win will not be any real credit to Richt or Martinez but just the reality that would and should occur with any coaching staff where the teams have similar talent. But do not worry…UGA will get back off the band wagon with losses to Kentucky and Yech to end the season.

How about those 3 Gator fumbles inside the red zone (and the other Gator turnover) and their missed FG? Oh, those don’t count. The only ones that count are the ones Arky committed. Well, Florida had many more mishapes than Arky and played their worse game of the year, a letdown after the big LSU game. Yet the Gators still won the game. Spell that what CHAMPIONS do! Win when they shouldn’t, unlike USC, Texas, and Oklahoma. The two best teams right now are 1. Bama and 2. Gators. No doubt. And that question will be settled in Atlanta in early December. I have watched both teams extensively and being from Tennessee, I have no love for either, but i would like to make a few comments.
Florida is an excellent team, but after watching them this year and last year, the loss of Percy Harvin, Dan Mullen, and the other receiver have made a major dent in their offense. Tebow is still superb but has definitely been slowed down some since he got hit in the KY game.
GA still has Willie, and there have been too many times when GA’s defense looked like a AA high school team, rather than a major conference, top talent defense. In spite of having highly touted running backs, the offense has declined since ARK. Green and the special teams have saved GA from some even more major embarassments, but you will need a functioning offense and defense to be competitive with the Gators.
Finally, everyone is sick and tired of hearing GA fans crying about how the “refs pick on the Dawgs”. You are undisciplined, draw too many fouls, and need to get a grip. Bad ref calls happen to every team and it evens out in the end. GA may have brought some extra scrrutiny on itself by its consistent violations. And for what it is worth, I’ve seen GA win games it should have lost because there were bad calls that went in their favor too.
Bottom line…Florida just has to be Florida to win. GA has to fix all of the errors listed above AND have some luck. Could GA win…maybe if they clean up their act and quit making excuses.

Here we go again…one win and UGA thinks they will win NC.
UGA maybe average, however, not in the same ranks as UF and Alabama. Just b’cos UF had 4 turnovers and won an ugly game does not mean every team that UF faces will have the same luck and same performance from UF offense. (ARK played a great game)

I know all of us are hurting real bad even with the meaningless win over hapless Vanderbilt, but let’s all stay focused on the same page where it matters. Richt has to go. He’s a nice guy, but professionally he’s just an overrated, overpaid mediocre coach. He needs to go now, not after the upcoming Gator fiasco. Really, in your hearts, you know Mother Marie is right.
So let’s see some “For Sale” signs sprouting up in Richt’s front yard, y’all hear!

Spackler, culturely only parts of Florida are Southern. The Panhandle, excluding the beach areas. The Gainesville and Tallahasee area. Ocala south to above Orlando. Lakeland Florida and surrounding counties, Apopka Kissimmee and that is just about it. The rest of state particularly the beach areas are all northern. I traveled 2/3 of the state in my work a few years ago. There are nice people anywhere you go but percentages are higher in the south in my opinion. Better manners as a general rule. Like yes sir, no maam etc. Rude culture migrates. I did live in Orlando Florida for 14 years and I did observe a large cross section of people who moved down from the North. Some of the nicer people that I observed were from upstate New York areas. Some of the rudest were from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey NY city and anyone from Iowa(mid west). Spackler, both of us are obviously under impressed with each other and we can leave it to that. I am a diehard Georgia fan, and I and nine other family members graduated from the University. Our football program has digressed from being a power team to a finesse team and it pains us who played the game and have followed the recruiting and program over the years. We have been very frustrated and yes even negative particularly toward our Head Coach. But, like a family member, we can criticize our own but don’t be surprised if you find you hand, as an outsider, bitten if you criticize our family. I haven’t boasted about how good our team is over the past year. It would not be true. Those three or four gator fans who post beligerately are going to be challenged. I tease them like a “sandspur” about meyer leaving because if Weis leaves ND soon I believe Meyer will as well. He is an opportuntist and will leave. Anyway, Spackler hope you have enjoyed living in the South. I personally would never want to move northward. By the way, while you here for 30+ years find yourself a team that you can support!!

I’s disgustered with so many of us Dawg fans losing faith in Mark Richt. He’s a Christian and we has to keep faith with hims. We’s got to root for the Dawgs and shows ups loud in Jax. Then we wins with a whooping of that arrogants horses backsides Meyers. Those lizzerds is going down and we is going put the beatin on them. The Gaytors aint no goods this year and the pollers knows it. That’s why the Gaytors dropping in voting. All we gots to do is practice and prepares for an extra week and then we beats them Gaytors. Them being national BCS champs again is a croc and the dawgs is just the team to ruin Gaytors seasons. Teablows been playing like he still hearing bells clanging in his helments and no kiss the booboo from Meyers is gonna fix its. History has shown that the team that gets the week off before this game usually does pretty well regardless of who the better team is. The Dawgs have a shot in my opinion. I think the Defense will do a good enough job to give the Dawgs a chance. The question I have is will Bobo call 20+ screen passes or think of something a little more creative than the game plans he had for the LSU and Tennessee games?

I’m hoping the pointed headed Adams has been canned. That would make my days and we could start focusing on being BCS champs again. Next best thing would be ND is hiring Meyers from them stinking Gaytors. Watching all the Gaytors lose hope with another Zooker is a wonderful thing to sees. The first thing I read (back on page 1) is that the “Dawgs” scored more points on Vandy than anyone else in 2 1/2 years.
Only either someone who had no real knowledge of college football (especially the SEC), or the demon possessed would say such a thing.
What a team does, or does not do, with Vandy has no real bearing on reality. Further, if Georgia could run the ball, they wouldn’t have scored that many points. That’s why teams, especially most SEC teams, don’t score as many points against Vandy: they can actually keep the ball on the ground and “grind out” an old-fashioned win. UGA, on the other hand, has an almost negligible running game.

Spackler, I agree with your assessment of the talent we have recently recruited out Florida, particularly out of the Tampa area. I haven’t been as excited about a recruit(Murray) since we recruited Stafford out of Texas. The tandum of Murray/Charles will be dynamic one in the future. In our spring G-game, Murray was the most impressive qb on the field. I haven’t seen that tight a spiral since an Eric Zier pass from the 90’s. We have a lot talent but I and others believe they have not been skilled up as good coaches will do. Ineffective consistent strategy has been the signature of our team for the last 2+ years. Most of our success has been from talent rather than strategy, a result derived from a void in leadership . Look forward to seeing other messages from you.

Doesn’t matter what happened in the Arkansas game, Florida will blow us out. We can’t run the ball, even against Vandy, sure as heck won’t be able to run against Florida.
The Florida defense will eat up Joe Cox, he will probably get his interception totals to surpass his TD total for the year, he’s only like 2 or 3 behind as of today.
We may get a couple of field goals, if that. Somewhere around 49-6 or 52-6.

A few things to consider when comparing 2007 to 2009 Florida UGA game.
1.In 2007, Florida lost to both Auburn and LSU prior to the UGA game. So essentially they were out of National Title contention. If they were still undefeated going into that game, the score would have been closer. Also this year, Florida plays MSU prior to playing UGA. UGA can be seen as a potential trap game and there’s no way they are looking past the Dawgs.
2. In 2007, Florida was breaking in 9 starters on defense. They have all of their returning starters on defense this year.
3. In 2006, UGA played Florida close in a 21-14 lose. They knew they had a shot at them. But this Bulldog team lost 49-10 to the Gators last year. How they respond? I don’t know.
4. In 2007, UGA had big play ability in the passing game and running game, and it all came together versus Florida. This team in 2009 doesn’t have that.
5. After the endzone dance in 2007, I can assure you that Urban Meyer and Co. aren’t looking past UGA.
With all of these factors mentioned, I do think that Florida isn’t quite as good on offense as they were a year ago. They’re still a good offense, but they’re not a great one like they were when they had that ” home run” ability with Harvin and Murphy. Then again, you don’t have to be a great offense to hang up points on the UGA defense( see Tennessee game). And except for AJ Green, UGA just doesn’t have a big play offense to put enough points on the Gator defense. This game won’t be a blowout, but it won’t be close either.
Gators 34-20.

Florida is not as good as last year, but it is not because of Percy being gone. He missed the SEC championship game plus parts of 4 others and wasn’t 100% against OU. The difference is Louis Murphy and Urban’s hire of a coordinator whose best listing on his resume is Indian University. Give me a break, the guy is an idiot. By the way I love to hear all of these whining DAWGS, see you in JAX for the beatdown. But you will cry the Refs cheated you in a 30 point loss.

UGA won’t beat FLA. This is the same UGA team that watched Tennessee erupt into a sideline celebration and responded by doing absolutely nothing! That was more troubling than the final score to me. We can’t run the ball and I just don’t see Joe Cox sitting back against a quality team and beating them by throwing. The only chance we have at all is to bring pressure all game long like Ark did. That is what kept Ark hanging around and having a chance to steal it in the end. We won’t be able to generate pressure rushing 4. Look what it did for the Falcons last night when they kept brining blitz packages. CHI hit on a couple of big plays but Cutler was scrambling a good portion of that game. We haven’t been able to stop many teams from scoring on us so if we are going to lose lets at least go down fighting with aggressive D. Wishful thinking with our bend but don’t break style of D.

I think it could happen, if we play like we did against Arkansas. Whoever scores last wins. And if the refs don’t screw us over again like they did to Arkansas against Florida and us against LSU. maybe i’m crazy too, but i’ve believed they could all year. even after the tennessee beatdown. florida is not as intimidating with out a pass game. and the run game can be stopped. if arkansas can do it (and i remember even uga’s RB’s busting some big ones on arkansas) then i know ugas d line and rennie curran can do it.
if joe cox gets into any groove early, and the entire teams plays agressive, and confident (’07) instead of scared and nice (’08)
then they have a better chance than anyone thinks. this is the kind of game mark richt is most effective. the impossible games.

Y’all, we have to be realistic and steel ourselves to the outcome of the Florida game, which will be ugly. Florida would have to have their worst performance of the year for our boys to have a chance, and that just isn’t likely.
We do have enough talent to stay in the game, but as usual, the coaching just isn’t there. And you never know how many of our players will be in jail or suspended, sad to say.
Let’s all just stay focused on the one thing we fans can do, which is to come together to demand that Richt and his cronies be fired. All you have to do is look at Florida, Alabama, and LSU to know that we can do so much better.

Iagree about the personal foul being bad, but what about the leg whip/trip that caused Rainey’s fumble?
Just pointing out that bad calls happen, the refs don’t put the ball in the end zone, and good teams force FG attempts (like we did after that fumble). Hog fans/Gator haters need to stop using the ref card and point to bad kicking and missed passes. 2nd down penalty calls don’t lose games, players do.

MAGIC HAPPENS! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!
Oh blessed GOD, Guardian Of Dawgs, please bring us Tricks and Treats for Halloween. Magic, Miracles and Lady Luck have been mighty good friends to the Georgia Bulldogs! Even Smoke and Mirrors are appreciated as long as the Dawgs and entire Bulldog Nation are happy! Blessings come in many forms, and the Dawgs are grateful for one and all no matter the form.
The entire Bulldog Nation, coaches and players have indeed had a wake-up call and are humbled and appreciative of all blessings GOD, Guardian Of Dawgs, provide to our beloved UGA. We acknowledge and humbly repent our 2007 childish and immature excessive celebration the first quarter after scoring the first touchdown which cost us a 30 yards penalty and a Florida touchdown, but we brought home the trophy (42-30). We repent for being so excited and fired up that our actions caused us to experience dawgkarma in 2008 and Albert and Alberta chomped off Uga VI’s tail (49-10)! Ouch! Bless his sweet spirit. We acknowledge that the attempt to spark the Dawgs was a poor judgment call from the sidelines. We humbly apologize to the SEC officials for our rude and disrespectful behavior and ask for their forgiveness. We promise not to do it again, as this penalty makes our beloved Vince Dooley look foolish since he wanted to stop some of this NFL celebration foolishness from taking over the SEC fields. Maybe they all needed to be suspended for poor judgement like the player who was arrested for riding his scooter down a construction road with a suspended license. The best leaders have the same set of rules during the game as they do after the game! Important to walk your talk.
Oh GOD, Guardian of Dawgs, YES WE CAN with your help beat the Gators without stupid gimmicks. stupid penalties and stupid plays. YES WE CAN appreciate tricks and treats you deem appropriate to put in our Halloween Dawgbags. We beseech you Oh GOD, Guardian Of Dawgs, to allow the players, coaches and fans to show the Bulldog Nation, the SEC and the entire world that not only can the Dawgs play like their pappy Junkyard Dawgs, they can also be respectful of “the arena” and its guidelines. We have learned our lesson and repent. We promise to be play fine in 2009 We promise to act better, now that we know better and be winners on and off the field — win or lose. We accept what works and leave the rest behind promising also to leave the black jerseys in storage! Twice was nice; third time was no charm! Big Al came to Athens and stomped on Uga VI (41-30). Ouch! Bless his sweet spirit.
Magic happens. Miracles happen. Lady Luck laughs! is no stranger to Georgia Football. Uga VII has bitten the tails of Albert and Alberta for many years…may 2009 be a bite that’s might fine! One fan suggested Uga bite more that just Albert’s tail…will leave that to the your imagination!
YES WE CAN! The Dawgs have nothing to lose, and much to gain. The Bulldog Nation knows the feeling of great disappointment when the dream fades away. We’ve been there and worn the T-shirts home. The Dawgs also know the elation of celebration and have heard the sweet sounds of Lady Luck’s laughs! Oh, sweet sUGAr.
Dawgs, no problem that the media adores Tim Tebow who, other than Herschel Walker, may become one of the best college football players of all-time. Pay no attention that the SEC officials seem to be in awe of him…they also were in awe of Herschel and the Junkyard Dawgs. Let Herschel and other Dawgs be your inspiration and motivation and the wind behind your backs. Let their unseen spirits soar!
Believe in Magic. Believe in Miracles! Believe in Lady Luck! Believe when you hear the (former DIXIE) Redcoat Marching Band playing music. Believe when you hear the fans seen and unseen. Believe anytime the Georgia Bulldogs play football! We aint’ too proud to beg. Work your magic in South Georgia and make VII proud! Go Dawgs!

The reason that I think the Dawgs have a glimmer of hope in Jax is not how they played against Vandy, but how poorly the Gators played. Tebow was off his game, throwing int’s, etc. I have said since the start of the season that the Gators are a great team, but not the #1 team in the land. Bama & Texas are better teams in my opinion. The SEC and/or Nat’l Championship game will prove that point. If the Dawgs manage to pull out a miracle win, they must play a complete game on both sides of the ball. Cox has to continue hitting his target (no int’s), Green has to continue doing his thing, team has to dramatically lower the penalties, D must pressure Tebow, & special teams must be incredible. There’s no way UGA or anyone else will win if the same bunch of idiot officials that did UGA-LSU do the game. And after watching Ark-Fla Saturday night, I (without knowing) stated it must be the same group after the personal foul on Arkansas that gave Fla the tie, and eventually the win. And guess what? According to the AJC it was. Two games in less than a month they’ve made calls that can’t be reviewed that have determined the outcome of a game. Come on SEC. Twice now you have had to admit on Monday these guys “blew it” on Saturday. Let ‘em go and give them a ticket to Canada where they can call games and no one cares.

Mark – We all know what UGAg did with 2 weeks off before Tech last year. Uh-huh…..Dogs get crushed as long as Tebow runs the UF offense, the kid wills them to win and will not lose, especially at home in Jax. Vandy was a nice HS win, UF is more like a semi-pro team.

Keep deluding yourselves that the officiating has anything to do with UGA’s woes. Until and unless you deniers come to grips with the issues and understand that the core problem is coaching, you may as well start getting used to 6-6 or 7-5 seasons and going to the Toilet Bowl in mid-December, while teams with first-rate coaches like Florida, Alabama, and LSU play in January.
This message is presented as a public service to all suffering Dawg fans. I feel your pain.

The ones wishing and hoping are the same ones that don’t see anything wrong with the direction this program is going in. Wake up and smell the coffee it won’t happen. And say it did happen by a stroke of luck is that satisfactory is that all you aim for to be able to beat Florida once in eight years? I want to beat them badly every year and so should all Dawg Fans, and that is why this direction must change.

Others than Adams the only change we need make is to gets some better players and to fire the refs that helps FLA and LSU. We has got to get more support of football from schools so good players have more time practicing and having fun and Adams is responsable for that. Afters Adams fixes then players get better for NFL and more NFL players come to UGA to get in drafted. Players not here for NFL need to be cut or shang highed to get some better players. Then we start beating FLA like Herschel and Lindsey Scott. FLA dont have history of football and Sugar championships like Dawgs. We got to change school so Meyer is likes Zooker again and we have raining sugars for Dawgs.

Of course Georgia will win this time. The only time they beat Florida is when it DOESN’T matter. Anytime we actually NEED to beat Florida to live up to expectations we fall flat on our faces. Georgia wins, Florida gets po’d and wins out, then beats Alabama by half a hundred in the SECCG and then blows someone out in the BCS Championship Game. Then they do’nt care so much about losing to UGA and just shove another MNC trophy in our faces.

Definitely a slow news day at the Sports desk. C’mon, MB, get real. The Dawgs lost all chance of ever rolling into Jacksonville “under the radar” the moment the entire UGA roster danced in the endzone in 2007. You can bet that the Gaytors are going to be ready for UGA. Richt is Meyer’s favorite whipping post since that beautiful day in 2007. If Tennessee can run up that many points on the dawgs, what do you think Florida is going to do? You said it yourself, last weekend was VANDY. Hell, Lowndes County could beat Vandy this year. You’re dreaming pal and you’re just setting up these poor pup fans for a bitter, bitter disappointment. If I’m Richt, I’m practicing everyday – taking advantage of the bye – and putting everything into winning this game. But, I’m not Richt. No, Richt practices two days and then “hits the weight room” for the rest of the week. My Gawd, where’s the intensity?
The Dawgs’ days are numbered. Unless there is a significant paradigm shift in the program next year, I feel bad for my brothers to the north. They are in for a long, long, long contractual period with Richt.
Go Jackets!

Mark, I enjoy your column, especially, your great sense of humor. You and Tony Barnhart have alludedto the 2007 game as cause for optimism among the mutts. Mr. Barnhart has mentioned that the mutts had open dates before their wins in 1997 and 2007 and that seemed significant. Maybe, but I think the fact that the Gators were coming off championship years in 97 and 07 were more significant since those were rebuilding years. In 2007, the Gators had a very young and inexperienced defense; that certainly is not the case this year. Give the mutts all the hope you can, they’re going to need it.

JaxGator you aint got a clues. The reasons Gators lose some years is becauses the Dawgs know more about football. If Gators did not have refs helping them win than UGA have beaten them likes we beats Techies. In 97 and 07 the Gaytors had really dumb team and even refs could not win it for them.
This year Gaytors got no QB because T-bows has ringing bells in helments. Gaytors been barely winning againts sorry schedule and getting refs to make up differents. Withs no Harven the Gaytors run game missing in action this year and T-bows aint no good at the passes. UGA had some D pass stopping problems with Compton, but T-bows can’t pass anyways. Because of no passing and no running Gaytors can’t get scores on UGA. Then Coxs is good when Bobo coach him on sidelines. So Dawgs scores plenty in Jax. Plus Dawgs has best kicker in SEC to make it easy to outscore Gaytors. Just waits and you will see Dawgs win in Jax by a large stomping amounts of scoring.
Go DAWGS! Gaytors stinks! Go DAWGS! Gaytors stinks! Go DAWGS!

I think it is funny that TENNESSEE can have 2 losing (5-7) seasons and a 4-loss season over the last few years,
BAMA can have a decade of bad seasons including 6-6 in Saban’s first year
FLA can have several 4-5 loss seasons (including bowls) during the Zook era and 1 of Meyer’s seasons
LSU just had a 7-5 season LAST YEAR
Auburn could be looking at 2 consecutive losing seasons
BUT when UGA finishes a consecutive #2 and #10, finishes top 10, 6 out of the last 7 and has 2 SEC titles in that time and then have ONE bad season after losing 3 huge peices early in the draft, ALL OF A SUDDEN people are saying “UGA is in decline” “UGA needs to rebuild their program” and tons of other GARBAGE
Maybe it has to do with playing 16 freshman, tons of sophomores, and very little juniors and almost no seniors against one of the toughest schedules in the country a year after losing the #1 and #12 overall picks at QB and RB…
To all of you naysayers and outsiders running down the status of UGA’s program, maybe, just maybe, UGA is re-building with young players to go on another run…GOOD GRIEF
Even Oklahoma is 3-3, Ohio St has multiple losses…Sometimes you have to be forged through the fire before you are hardend steel

Mr. Bradley,
I humbly submit to you the fact that you may be quite delusional. While it is every UGA fans dream to beat Florida, dreams and reality are two very separate and distinct things. While the Gators showed some cracks in their defense last week and a slow performance from its offense, the Bulldogs do not posses the enough talent to take heavy advantage of these weakness’. And while I’m sure most UGA fans would like, at the least to see a competitive game the weakness’ in their team are too glaring to overlook. Simply put, the Bulldogs best chance of winning is by a miracle and nothing less.

Thats what Is trying to tell everyones. We just got stinkyer players this years but theys is still goods enough to beat Gaytors. Once stinky players gone then we wins SEC and BCSes again.
UGA coaches knows what theys doing and is great Christians which is all about winning. Gitting better requires good players with faiths instead of the stinky heathen players. Yeh ok, your right Ga has not a thang to lose in this game, but the game. And they will because you have to have a QB, blocking, and a D-Line that are good which they don’t. I predict for Ga to look like Kentucky against them gators. Only if Tebow is held back like he was two years ago from an injury and may be tries to play with a broken leg does the defense have a chance. The offense has none. Ga would be better off to line up in the wishbone with Green at the QB running the option. GA 3 – florida 55.

Matt were talking the football and not the grammar and speller. And of course my statements dont make any sounds. They’ve posted on a web board for reading not hearing. You’ve gots to be trying to go all philospohicel on me about cutting trees making sounds in forrests. I don’t worry about all the forrest issues when football season is on.
With bumbling that seems to be you’re teams because them Techies been bungles for years. Just cause you roots for GT and FLA you should learned early that 2 wrongs don’t make it right.
I knows that you upset from seeing Dawgs get experience and coming together teams at this point in season before Jax. We lost all we lose this year and now Dawgs going on a table runing that ruins FLA season just like we done before.
The problem with the Gaytors is that Myers don’t know football but is good at pollaticking the refs and BCS polls to get in champ games and beat ups on chumpy Big Ten team.
Don’t worry cause Myers is leaving this years after getting call from popes to replace Wise at noter dum. Then Gaytors will be Zooking it once more agains.
