I wouldn't count CMR out. I expect he will make the changes necessary at the end of the season to improve the teams's performance. And I don't think Mr.. Bradley or any knowledgeable Tech fan thinks we are that much better than UGA or even close to being able to contend at the highest levels of CFB (top 4 or 5). GT should not be 5-1 with their defense. And like a few rational Tech fans have said, I wouldn't put a W in our column yet for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Georgia is plenty talented enough to put up numbers against the Tech Defense and win that game. But the reason we are 5-1 is largely CPJ. By the same token, Georgia shouldn't be 3-3 with their talent and getting blown out by Tenn. And you have to put part of that blame on CMR and his inability to get coaches to coach and players to play.

Mr. Bradley's point was that one man can make a big difference and he is right. GT is in no way a 5-1 team today under Chan Gailey. I doubt they are even 3-3. What Johnson has done is made the players accountable and made them believe that they can and should win. You have to give him credit for that. Has he turned us into a top 5 program?? No way. We have a long way to go, but at least we believe it is possible now. Nobody believed that under Gailey.

I personally think CMR is also a top tier coach. He is a great recruiter, and quite frankly, his faith and good guy image likely helps him a lot in recruiting. The one thing he has to work on is toughness. That doesn't mean he should dump his faith and start spewing expletives at players on the sidelines. It means that he must hold his players and coaches accountable, and if they don't perform, he needs to replace them with someone who will be accountable. The fact that the Freshmen RB (Easley??) wasn't starting Satueday after a great performance the preveios week and Samuels (the FB man was) is telling. Sort of reminds you of Chan and the way he refused to dump Reggie Ball, regardless of how poorly he performed.

Holding players and coaches accountable is in no way non Christian..It is just demanding a level of commitment that is necessary to succeed.

As a Tech fan that never routes for UGA (even if they are in state), I would love to see the dawgs fire CMR. Who can they get that is better (not just game day, but also with recruiting, which is a big part of the game)? Before CMR got there, UGA was at best an every other year top 20 program (about like Tech under O'Leary). With CMR you have been consistent top 20, and occasional top 10. Most schools fans would love that, but somehow dag fans have convinced themselves they are on same levels as USC, Texas, and the other consistent top 5 teams. You aren't now and never were. I think you could eventually get there with the right moves under CMR, but if you fire him, you will set the program back by years.

Just my 2 cents worth as a big College Football fan, but admitted dawg hater.

I'll answer the question posed by your headline, Mark: No, Richt cannot restore UGA the way Johnson has Tech. He may, though, be able to do it his way.

I think its funny that uga fans are so quick to deface their coaches after just a few bad games. Georgia was a national championship contendor for some time last season. They have been in the running for the SEC every year since Richt got there. I can see if this goes on for a couple of seasons but come on. If he leaves because the fans run him off, uga is in for a rude awakening for the year or two of rebuilding.

Great comments, Nate. I also get sick of all the classless entries made on these blogs. I love my Jackets and enjoy our rivialry with UGA to the hilt, but I hope the Dogs get it turned around soon. The rivalry is a lot more fun when both schools are having good seasons. I think CMR will do what needs to be done in Athens, but it may be after this season is over.
