Live from Tallahassee: A big end to a big day for Tech?

Tallahassee – The PA system at Doak Campbell Stadium hasn’t cranked up yet, but this has the makings of a big day/night for the Institute sometimes sneeringly called the North Avenue Trade School. Georgia Tech will enter here with the best chance it has ever had to beat Florida State in the state in the Florida. And, not that Tech fans ever pay much attention to that college in Clarke County, but …

Georgia got trampled in Knoxville.

Win tonight and the Jackets don’t just set up a game for the ACC Coastal lead next week at Bobby Dodd Stadium; they also stamp themselves, rather clearly, as the best program in Georgia. The hated Bulldogs are 3-3 for the first time under Mark Richt; the Jackets would be 5-1 if they beat the Seminoles.

And they should beat the Seminoles. FSU is areel. The first word in the headline of the stadium edition of the Tallahassee Democrat was “distractions.” The two stories inside the wraparound bore these headlines: “Is there any way this can end well for FSU, Bowden?” and “Think you have TK’s [T.K. Wetherell is the school president] for Bowden figured out?”

In sum, nobody was talking about the nation’s No. 22 team. (That would be Tech.) Everybody remains abuzz about Bobby Bowden, who seems to be entering the final stages of a long and distinguished career in a most unseemly way. Everybody, it seems, wants him to go. Everybody except him.

And that’s where we are, sports fans, at 5:45 p.m. The sun is shining, but thunderstorms are predicted for the evening. (In case you haven’t heard, it rains sometimes in Florida.) Rain might well inhibit Paul Johnson’s stylized offense — harder to handle a wet ball — and might well make for a 13-10 flub-fest that FSU could luck up and win. But I think it’d take a lot of luck for the ‘Noles to prevail tonight. And I think Papa Bowden ran out of luck about a decade ago.

Perhaps for better but probably for worse, I’ll be here all evening to offer insights (not likely) and asides (possibly) on this game and anything else you’d like to discuss. I hear another Florida team is playing tonight, too. I hear it’s raining over in Louisiana. I hear Tebow might or might not play. If I hear anything else, I’ll advise forthwith.

Yes graduates, and their families. Also some old timers who remember the glory days. If tech can build a solid program the support will come. We need to earn the support…because sidewalk alum only support success…what other stake do they have in the program. Give em hell TECH!!

my LORD, give this up Bradley and the AJC! we get it already! why do i have to constantly read this could be, this might be GT’s time to top UGA? last time i checked it takes more than one head to head win to be the top program in the state. besides all that, you still got FSU today, a lose to them and nobody can brag.

no question the DAWGS had a horrid day, but that doesn’t mean the entire program is landfill bound.

No, Paddy. Because as we all know, There Is No Such Thing as a Georgia Tech fan. Only people who hate Georgia. That’s why they can’t sell out a stadium with the capacity of a dixie cup.

Big game tonight…a win at least sets up a top 20 matchup next weekend. Why would a top 20 matchup get a 6pm ESPN kick off? Kills me…at least it leaves time to go out and celebrate after the game.

3-3

Even with a loss, 4-2 is about equal to 3-3 given strength of schedule. Given the 45-42 of last November, Tech would still be the best team in the state. UGA just can’t do anything right this year.

Tech fans are more interested in what UGA does than any other team, including their own. Dont you guys dare accuse UGA fans of doing the same for you guys, I could care less what the nerds do until Nov 28th, and you should do the same for us!!

Dude, our dixie cup can totally rock your stadium… especially when we have a white-out. It really gets into the mind of the opponent. Too bad we won’t have mind control at our disposal in Tallahassee.

Braves Fan, see that is the delusion all other college football fans say about UGA fans. The earth doesnt revolve around the Univeristy of GA. You are no longer the cream of the crop. Face it, you are just another average SEC football team with no direction. Your team is just a lost child in the wilderness. What a shame.

We better win. After being on the UGA Blog and listening to all the bit..ing and crying I need a win. I think UGA has 2 wheels on that bandwagon. HAHAHAHAH. The Dawgs will feel great when LSU beats the Gators and think they actuallym matter. HAHAHAHAH.

I think half of UGA just committed mass suicide today. They still have not learned from last years mistakes of one of the most important things in football, which is tackling. The funniest things is the shoulder bumps the UGA dbs put on the ball carrier. They just bounce off.

Hello Mark, fellow denizens. My Dawgs lost (more like, got destroyed) today, so I now turn my attention to an interesting match up between Tech and Florida State. I’m interested to see how Florida State handles the distractions surrounding their team. In my opinion, Bobby Bowden built this Florida State football program and therefore he should retire on his terms whenever he so choses.

Good luck tonight Jackets/Seminoles. Hopefully this blog doesn’t turn into something like Schultz’s UGA/Tenn blog, i.e. fan’s from opposing teams posting pointless B.S. and “fans” calling for the firing of their head coach in the middle of re-building year.
