It looks like another wasted year next year. If Bobby Cox packed his bags and walked out of spring training someone should have offered to drive him home before he sobered up and backed out. Maybe when he retires and starts going to watch the farm teams he will take his buddy Greg Norton to sit in the stands with him. I guess this means we will have to watch that idiot for another year too.

Cox has the numbers and reputation to be a sure HOF candidate. AT 68 why would he want to come back to a team that will not be World Series caliber, playoffs yes, but World Series no. His managing style dictates that he has to have a seasoned veteran team to win it all. A team that all he has to do is file out the same lineup 90% of the year and only make adjustments in the 7th,8th and 9th inning lineup of pitchers when there is a blowout win or lost. Next year's team will be a relatively young team, maybe even younger if Henyard and Freeman make the team. He will not win the World Series with basically what they have this year, even if they add a power hitting right handed bat. This team as presently constituted, requires innovative moves by its manager during the year to light a fire in its players when things may get tough. Moves that are made by feel or instinct not by necessity(injury). Cox won't do that,i.e., (Schaeffer,Johnson,Francoeur, and Chipper) Oh well, he wanted a victory lap, so that is what next season's goal will be to give him that chance, where all the NL teams will have a "So long Bobby Day" when the Braves play in that stadium for the last time next year.
Ego is a terrible thing to waste.

Coach(2010 or Bust)must have been turned down for an autograph by BC sometime. Either that or......Wait a minute. I just read Pete Rushworth's posting(above). THAT is the definitive last word on this(and all other) subjects.

Frankly, the whole issue shows the media mongering that goes on incessantly concerning anything or anyone controversial or worthy of great note such as Bobby Cox. It's part of why you media guys are less and less trusted. Let it lay until something definitive happens. Report the news, not what might be the news. You are tearing us down!

I wonder What Russ Nixon's doing in 2011. The core of the Braves success over the years was actually developed under Bobby's tenure as GM; I.E. - Smoltz,Glavine, Avery, Merker, Gant,Justice...He was much more than a caretaker of a great pitching staff, he developed it and maintained it for years. You'll never know if Glavine would have been great for another Manager (what would Bret Favre's career have looked like in Atlanta). Also, The Braves would have smoked the Yanks if the Yankees weren't abusing Steroids at a win at all cost clip, plus one bad call and one boneheaded baserunning mistake from winning 2nd WS vs Twins on Top of Yankees steroid abuse.

Totally agree Bobby should retire, not be replaced by TP, and bring back Ned Yost as the skipper.

This is great news I' am glad Bobby Cox gets to retire as coach on his own terms and that he will still be apart of the braves organization in the decision making. I' am pretty sure Bobby Cox is going to have a big say so on who would be the next braves coach and I' am fine with that hopefully the next coach is someone who the team can trust and believe in I got a feeling it may be Terry Pendelton or someone else who has worked with Bobby Cox before or played for Bobby Cox.

Let' go Braves hopefully 2010 would be a better year we have to make the playoffs so that Coach Cox can retire atleast in peace knowing he got the team into the playoffs for the last go round.
