5 reasons Georgia Tech will win at Miami

The ESPN-fueled zaniness will be on the other side this time. But that's OK. (AJC photo by Johnny Crawford)

The nighttime zaniness will be on the other side. But that's OK. (AJC photo by Johnny Crawford)

1. Paul Johnson coaches Georgia Tech. Randy Shannon coaches Miami. Mismatch.

2. Tech just got a crash course in how to handle a Thursday night game. The home team will be pumped and will start fast. The visitor must ride out the first quarter and stay close, which is doubly important if …

3. You’re a running team, which Tech is. The Jackets can’t get too far behind. But they won’t. Indeed, their capacity to control the ball and the clock will help douse Miami’s early fire. Which means …

4. It will come down to execution. That’s a mismatch, too. Miami beat Florida State because FSU is even sloppier than the U. Tech can get sloppy, but not when it matters. And, in case you haven’t noticed …

5. Tech owns Miami. Even Chan Gailey beat the Hurricanes. As Inspector Clouseau would say, “The case, she is sol-ved.”

(Or is it? Coming next: What ESPN.com’s Scouts Inc. thinks of this titanic Thursday tilt.)

Well, we now know Tech’s new name under Paul Johnson, “THE GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF CHEATERS.” The new slogan will be “The End Justifies The Means.” Johnson has shown his true colors, he has to have a pocket full of High School plays in order to win.

The notion that Tech’s team is superior is not correct. Though better than usual, they still have their problems, especially on defense. They will face a very fast and athletic Miami offense, can they slow them down?

You continue to talk highly of your offense when your offense hasn’t shown anything except they can throw against a sorry fsu team. FSU was losing to Jacksonvill State with less than a minute left. And this is what you base your offense being good on? Enjoy another beatdown cane fans. And for the dawg fans, enjoy losing too.

I didn’t exactly see a stellar defensive performance out of Miami on Labor Day against the Noles.

What evidence is there to suggest they will have any success shutting down GT tomorrow night?

Until I see something different, I have to go with Tech to win this game.

Do not ssume because we have won the last 3 years that this one is in the bag. Playing early in Miami is different than playing in late October or November. This is a home game for Miami and they are usually excellent on Thursday nights. Do not buy into the idea that the “flu” is going to make Miami vunerable, they will have their team up for this big-time! If Miami wins they have to feel good about BCS implications, especially if they can also beat V-Tech. I have Miami picked as the ACC dark horse, Tech better bring their “A” game or it will be a their first conference loss.

I heard several Tech players are also not feeling well, Its just not known if its from the flu or trying to learn how to tie their shoes during a football game.

Guys I’m a Tech Fan since I was born but this one scares the heck out of me. This is not the U of old. They have tons of talent and speed. CPJ is a fantastic coach but sometimes Talent over comes coaching. Miami probably has more pro prospects on there team than GT has had in the last 10 years. As far as the offense being a gimmick, Well there was this coach at Alabama that made a pretty good living running a very similar offense called the wishbone and I’m pretty sure he won a few national championships with it. The only reason teams quit running it was because some of the better athletes would not go there because it was not the pro style offense and the players were not showcased for the next level. Since GT never has really had that problem it’s the perfect offense for GT to run. CPJ is very smart and can make adjustments on the spot but I have to say this, Our QB has to do a better job of throwing the ball or you can just stack the line and put 9 in the box and its lights out unless you can keep them a little honest! Gotta love how cocky you all are and how much sh*t you talk online. Yet you’re all probably polite as can be in person. Anytime I see Tech and UGA fans together they’re all buddy buddy in public. But once they get on their mom’s computer in the basement….”it’s go time”. Gimmie a break. None of you idiots PLAY for either one of these teams. Calm the hell down and let the games be decided on the field.

Crap, Mark! You’ve jinxed us!!

Miami is better than they were last year. Harris is good. If we don’t get pressure on him, we could be in for a long night. A really long night. I think they have an advantage catching us early in the year, before our O gets in rhythm and before their D gets settled into habits they find hard to break. They also have more time off than we do to rest up and prepare.

Two things may affect the outcome. #1. Weather. If it’s sloppy weather, Tech may turn the ball over and have DB breakdowns leading to big plays. #2. Flu. If a lot of the U players are sick, how well will they hold up in the 4th qtr?
Mark, do you think one or both of these factors may play into the outcome?

What an article, U all seem pretty confident. Just make sure to be back Thursday night after the beat down! And I don’t want to hear any excuses.

Example Excuse:

Miami won 57 to 3, but if we didn’t throw 4 int and fumble 5 times we would have won. They had 600 yards total to our 25, but that is because our QB had a cold. We should have beat them.

Five reasons GT will win:
1. They are playing an ACC team
2. Miami cannot tackle
3. Illegal pass plays
4. Chop blocks
5. The ACC refs won’t let them lose.

Hey Dogtards

10:46 am

“Hey Dogtards

you kill me!!!! You are trashing Dawg fans for not being “classy” BUT…you come on the blog with a name like “Dogtards” and crack on Georgia fans

REAL CLASSY my friend

Here are a few things you need to know about the difference between the UGA and TECH programs

1 When Georgia finishes 10-3 and #10 in the country it is a DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!

2 When Tech goes 9-4 and is not even ranked they think it is an all time GREAT season and that thier team and coach is the second coming

3 UGA beats Tech soooo much that Techies have victory RINGS made to comemorate the one time in a decade that they do manage to squeak out a win ( I mean Rings? Really? that is sad)

4 Georgia sells more of YOUR season ticket packages than you do when the Dawgs are going to play at Tech that season

5 You can’t sell out or fill up a 50k seat stadium WHILE UGA has a waiting list for tickets to a stadium that holds 93K and buy ins that cost thousands just for the right to get tickets

6 You are not a rivalry for Georgia anymore…you are the annoying little brother loses to his older brother in a game of HORSE a hundred straight times and then runs his mouth and brags relentlessly the one lucky time he does win”

First, like I said, good natured ribbing is within good taste. If one word, “dogtard,” means I’m classless, then so be it. I still haven’t made fun of any school based on any crimes that may or may not be related to that school (e.g. GT muggings, uga murders, etc.)

1 – I hope you are ready for even greater disappointment this year. The reason finishing #10 (and #13 in the AP) was so disappointing is because you started the year #1. Every one of your fans would gladly take 10-3 this year, so don’t pretend that you are automatically disappointed by a 10-3 finish. It is because of everyone’s overinflated expectations of an overhyped team that you were disappointed last year.

2 – This is like #1. It was a great season not because of the 9-4 record, but because most publications picked us to be bad. It was also a great season because we had 9 wins under a new coach – something uog has NEVER EVER done. Apparently you like to make things up to, because we ended up ranked 22 in both polls.

3 – Again, you are just making stuff up. The rings were made by the senior class (not PJ, not Tech, and not the team) and only went to seniors. They are a yearly tradition for seniors, and were not “commissioned” because of any win, let alone the uog win. Finally, the score was only part of the design, not the entire ring.

What is sad, however, is how you have to make up things to make fun of Tech.

5 – You are off on stadium size by about 15%. Seeing as we sold more than half capacity this year of season tickets (and that’s not including student tickets), your claim is not only factually wrong, but also impossible.

6 – I really hope your players are thinking that come November. Cause ours aren’t.\

Who’s got the pitchman?

To the idiot that claimed UGA was a better program than GT because UGA has more players in the NFL: Does that logic also mean that UGA is better than USC?

It might just mean that UGA puts a lot of players in the pros. Or it could mean that their talent is underutilized at UGA. It does not mean that one program is better than the other – who is their right mind would argue that Miami has the best program in CFB?

Richt and Johnson continue winning on the way to November in ATL where the combined win total of the two teams will be 19 or 20. This will make the UGA/GT game a national spotlight game instead of just an interesting in-state rivalry.

That is what this state needs-2 winners. Recruits galore and make Florida and Alabama second rate in rivalry games.

2010 can be even better for both.

WOW. GT beat Clemson why? Becuase they scored 2 specialteam TD’s. The offense ran and ran and ran for a whole 16 points at home versus Clemson. No disrecpect to Clemson but not a powerhouse on D. Did you not watch the game? So all the GT bravado and Paul Johnson ball jockeying is getting kinda stupid. Not one GT guy on this post has said anything about a kid with 1 start under his belt at QB ripping apart that jacket D. None has said anything about Clemson shutting them down in the second half. They are just like there coach whinning/arrogant. In his press conference for this game he talks about Miami getting 9 days to prepare. Well last year when you ripped Miami up at home you had 11 days to prepare. GT and Johnson need to shut the hell up and just play ball.

Im sorry but I have a hard time believing that the same Georgia Tech team that beat an extremely good UGA team in ‘08, at their house, could lose to Miami.(A team not nearly as good as the dawgs.)

I do think Miami has a great program and I am happy they are doing so well. However, I say they dont have enough defense to stop us and our secondary plays one hell of a game.
