The nighttime zaniness will be on the other side. But that's OK. (AJC photo by Johnny Crawford)
1. Paul Johnson coaches Georgia Tech. Randy Shannon coaches Miami. Mismatch.
2. Tech just got a crash course in how to handle a Thursday night game. The home team will be pumped and will start fast. The visitor must ride out the first quarter and stay close, which is doubly important if …
3. You’re a running team, which Tech is. The Jackets can’t get too far behind. But they won’t. Indeed, their capacity to control the ball and the clock will help douse Miami’s early fire. Which means …
4. It will come down to execution. That’s a mismatch, too. Miami beat Florida State because FSU is even sloppier than the U. Tech can get sloppy, but not when it matters. And, in case you haven’t noticed …
5. Tech owns Miami. Even Chan Gailey beat the Hurricanes. As Inspector Clouseau would say, “The case, she is sol-ved.”
(Or is it? Coming next: What ESPN.com’s Scouts Inc. thinks of this titanic Thursday tilt.)

Hey Sharecropper, the Jackets has over 300 yards rushing against the Heels last year and still lost 28-7. Clemson figured out the run in the second half and then we saw that Nesbitt couldn’t pass to save his life.

I never said the Heels offense is a powerhouse. Its their defense that is winning games for them. They know how to stop Tech.
Ralph, your pack might want to win a game against an FBS team before you can start crowing about going to a bowl game.

Everyone seems to agree that Miami has the “better” players on their sideline, and I think at this point, most people seem to agree that GA Tech has the better Coach on their sideline. Therefore, I think the game will come down to the basics; who executes the best, offensively and
defensively; turnovers; and mental errors, such as penalties – the same things that cost GA Tech their losses last season.
Don’t forget, either Team can win because they executed better, didn’t turn the ball over, and/or minimized mental errors, like penalties. Conversely, either team could just as easily lose the game because of they don’t execute their game plan well, they turn the ball over, and/or they make mental errors, like dumb penalties.
If I were a betting man, which I’m not, I would lay odds that Paul Johnson has held back quite a few wrinkles for the Miami game that haven’t been played yet, including some rushing plays to spread the defense and use their aggressiveness against them, as well as more short and intermediate passing plays like the one he used against Clemson at the end of the game.
If Josh can hit those dunk passes, it will require the LB’s to play honest to the outside, opening up running lanes in the middle and and outsides when the A-Backs are already in position to block, and also keeping the safeties occupied better so that a wide receivers will have a better chance for one-on-one coverage.

Exactly we had 300 yards, this offense was not stopped and will not be stopped. Anytime we have 300 yards rushing the offense has not been stopped. If we lose its because of turnovers…not the offense being stopped. I may be young but I know my history and PJ has always been successful with this offense….mental mistakes and turnover are the only thing that can beat us not someone all the sudden “figuring it out”. Its laughable when I hear people say that.

Im here just got to school. In computer lab now.
Remember the run and shoot. It worked for a little while 2. thats the thing with gimmicks. they work in the short run. Not in the long run.
Another thing that is going to kill Tech is that the best HS players are looking for a program that can get them in the pros. No QB is going to go to that offense and get killed and most of the best players are going to realize that Tech’s pop warner offense isnt run in the pros and that will put them at a disadvantage if they have to learn the pro system on the fly.

“I never said the Heels offense is a powerhouse. Its their defense that is winning games for them. They know how to stop Tech.”
Yeah, just get lucky and catch Tech on its worst day of the year. It would be like if we played UNC on October 18, November 15, or especially November 22. That’s an easy way to stop us though, just have Butch plan ahead and schedule a game we sleepwalk through (see UNC v. NC St last year). Your defense didn’t do much to stop us, seeing as we had over 300 yards rushing in the worst executed game all year, plus we pretty much beat ourselves that game.
I give you guys credit for beating us, but it wasn’t because of your defense. Dwyer and Roddy Jones both averaged over 7 yards a carry. We had more yards rushing (326) than y’all had rushing AND passing (314). We averaged 6 yards a carry to your 4.4.
In fact, after a 67 yard first drive, your team only managed about 250 yards the rest of the game and didn’t have a single drive over 40 yards. Tech had 5 drives of 40+.
The UNC perception of that game to this day amazes me. None of their fans remember that the game was tied 7-7 with 2 minutes left in the third. None of their fans remember that we missed two field goals and didn’t try another one from the unc 30 afterwards. None of the unc fans to remember that the turnover margin was 3-0 in favor of unc. No, they only seem to remember their dominating defense (gave up over 400 yards), their awe-inspiring offense (1 drive of over 40 yards), and their absolute destruction of GT (with a decent field goal kicker performance, GT is up 16-7 late in the third).
Amazing how perception and reality can diverge the way they do.

Forgot to mention that more drives ended on turnovers or missed field goals (7 – 2 missed FGs, 2 turnovers on downs, 2 fumbles – including one on a punt return – , and 1 interception) than punts (4). That won’t happen again.

I’m a Dawg fan but this should be a entertaining game to watch (and I’ll take football on TV any night I can get it..even if its Tech
I think the loss of Miami’s two DBs will not make much difference b/c Tech does not pass the ball well at all
If it is raining as hard as they are forecasting that will be a problem for Tech
If Tech turns the ball over in this game they lose badly otherwise it is going to the wire

Unlike the gt-unc game, tech won that game at athens. I know you uog types have a hard time thinking clearly, but there is a big difference.
GT’s interception return for a touchdown was by an all american. UNC has no all americans.
The turnover margin was 1, not 3 like it was against unc.
The yards difference was 60, not 100+ (like Tech outgaining unc), and that’s including uog’s late 4th quarter 70 yard drive.
Most of Tech’s yards, despite the whining of the mutts, were due to great plays by great backs, not poor tackling by their defense (amazing how when no-show makes someone miss, its him making a great play, but when dwyer and jones do the same its just poor tackling)
That yardage is not including the 30+ yards of penalties that uog had that tech didn’t.
Five of Tech’s scoring drives were over 50 yards. Four were 60 or more. Two were 70 or more. UNC only had one drive over 40 yards all game, the first drive.
The games are nothing alike. Stop whining mutt, you guys lost to Tech. For winning so many times in the last 30 years you would think you guys would be good losers. I guess I overestimate how classy uog fans are.

Tech will lose because you picked them. Funny, you haven’t noticed a pattern of futility with your picks. Simply put, you suck at predictions and any team you pick is subject to a curse not unlike that of the Sports Illustrated or Madden hexes. In fact, if I were a betting man, I would assign a value of seven points per reason you have stated that Tech will win in favor of the ‘Canes. So, if the Bees are gonna win, they need to be able to at least score more than 35 points. Good work, Bradley!
I’m kidding, of course (calm down Jacket fans). Actually, with the way Miami plays defense, I don’t see Tech having much difficulty scoring 35+ points. The key will be when the Jackets are on defense. They must play four quarters and avoid a repeat of the second half of the Clemson game. Jacory Harris was stellar against FSU and can hurt them down the stretch if Tech becomes gassed late in the game. I think Tech wins, but it won’t be without a fight. Miami will challenge the Bees. An off the cuff score prediction… GT 38, Tha U 35.

Let’s get this straight. The “dogtard..” poster is not me (ironically enough, he calls himself a dogtard).
I will provide a short response to the idiots post.
1) You are crazy if you think RBs will not want to come to Tech. Dwyer is going to be a first round pick either this year or next. Tech will churn running backs into the NFL with this system, as it showcases them.
2) You are probably right that we won’t put many QBs, if any, in the NFL. We aren’t recruiting that type of player anyways so we won’t be competing for uog for the big five star pocket passers. We sure wouldn’t be starting Joe Cox. In this offense, we wouldn’t even start Stafford. We require a specific type of QB, which means we won’t be competing with 95% of the other schools looking for prototypical NFL QBs. We landed a 4 star QB last year, Nesbitt is a 4 star, and I’d imagine PJ is a good enough talent scout where stars don’t matter. Plus, there are plenty of QBs in the NFL (and who are about to be in the NFL) who don’t fit that typical system anyways (see Pat White, Tim Tebow).
3) Our offensive linemen can go pro too. Navy has put linemen in the nfl under paul johnson’s scheme. So has Tech.
4) Bay-bay Thomas will likely go pro, probably a second day pick but still. That’s a WR going pro in this system. And Stephen Hill, the kid uog sweated over before he chose to play at Tech. He’s probably going pro too.
5) Defense – it’s the same as it ever was. We’ve put a bunch of linebackers in the nfl recently. We’ve got at least two on our current defense who will play pro, one of whom will probably be a top 5-10 pick.
So we won’t get blue chipper pocket passers, who we can’t play anyways. What was your point again?

Take away that “cheesy” call for holding late in the game, that took the completion down inside the ten, and I wonder if Paul Johnson would look so good this week. Tech is OVER RATED—–and as for that “white out” thing————-Can one say-NERD CITY ????

At least we can agree on some things.
But lets go ahead and get this out of the way…Nesbitt is no Tebow, not even a tenth as good. Not ever a quarter as good as Pat White. I think Logan Gray would run your offense better than Nesbitt, considering he actually can complete a pass that isn’t a shovel.
Now your RBs, really good, but still over-rated. If Samuel or any decent RB was in Techs offense they would have his numbers…it’s all about the system dogtard.
Stephen Hill sweating? Don’t even get me started on that. Yea I’ll admit we wanted him, a little…after we lost 2 other guys we wanted. So yea, he was “in the hole” so to speak as far as recruiting goes. Lets not even mention all the recruits Tech couldn’t even get in the family room with.
OL…I guess they’re good. I don’t know how chop blocking every single play goes in the NFL, but I’ll just wait and see on that one.
I think your pretty accurate with Bay Bay…too bad no one can throw him the ball.
Defense, yea I guess they’re ok. This question will be answered at your Thursday JV game. Your secondary will definitely be put up to the test, and if they withstand, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

“because I said tech is a walking crime scene I have no class?”
The fact you don’t even realize that just shows how little class you have. First, most of the victims are not Tech students – the crimes are all over midtown atlanta (you know, that city uog grad’s go after they graduate). More importantly, those people are just that – VICTIMS. They are people who’ve had guns pointed at them, many have been beaten, and all of them are traumatized.
You might as well laugh at football players getting accused of rape or, if you were a tech fan, laugh at the uga professor killing two people and then himself. They are all tragic incidents with victims (even if the rape didn’t happen the player is a victim) and have no place in football trash talking.
Tons of uga grads live in midtown/downtown – I’m sure some of them have been victims of the rapidly-spiraling-out-of-control crime in Atlanta. That has nothing to do with who’s football team is better. While Tech is located in Atlanta and uga isn’t, you’d have to be an idiot not to realize that this is a community that both schools share or that atlanta is the number one destination of uga grads.
If you can’t understand the difference, so be it. But I expect more out of uga students/grads.

UNC, we play UNC ???
The only game I care to discuss is the Miami game and that should be the only game the players/coached are thinking about as well.
Focus and execution are the key in every game. The team that is able to retain focus and execute should win any game.
As far as figuring out the Tech offense, that is a naive comment, at best, more likely an extremely moronic comment by someone with rose colored glasses. That same type offense just about beat Ohio State using players that couldn’t even be walk-ons at most big-time programs.
And if you think you can sit back, watch the LSU and Clemson films and think, “I know what to do against this offense.” I hope that is all the creativity that the opposing coach uses. Do you not think the PJ has watched the same films and sees the same tactics? Do you not think that he is smart enough to identify whether it is execution that is lacking or that there are other plays he can run to take advantage of the defense? Do you really think any of us posting on here are smarter than the head coaches of either of the teams discussed here, or even UGA for that matter? Well, maybe with the exception of Richt and his stuborness with respect to Willie Martinez…
As far as the comment about the weather, both team will play in the same conditions and I would expect a running team to have an advantage in wet conditions, not a passing team.
I would not make a prediction about this game. There are still too many unanswered questions about both teams and who shows up. The Clemson game was definitely not a good barometer for this Tech team other than their effort in the fourth quarter. Coming out that quickly and scoring the way they did against Clemson changed the gameplan and changed the way the players approached the game.
I do think you will see more short pass plays in this game. Hopefully, Roddy Jones won’t need that brace he had on against Clemson and he will make the easy grabs he missed against Clemson.
I worry more about Miami’s offense than I do their defense, FSU scoring 2x more points against UM than Jax St has me less worried about that aspect of the game. I worry about our defense against that talented QB and our offense with respect to execution.
As for the DAWG fans on here, you should be worried more about Arkansas and less about GT/MIA.

REAL CLASSY my friend
Here are a few things you need to know about the difference between the UGA and TECH programs
1 When Georgia finishes 10-3 and #10 in the country it is a DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!
2 When Tech goes 9-4 and is not even ranked they think it is an all time GREAT season and that thier team and coach is the second coming
3 UGA beats Tech soooo much that Techies have victory RINGS made to comemorate the one time in a decade that they do manage to squeak out a win ( I mean Rings? Really? that is sad)
4 Georgia sells more of YOUR season ticket packages than you do when the Dawgs are going to play at Tech that season
5 You can’t sell out or fill up a 50k seat stadium WHILE UGA has a waiting list for tickets to a stadium that holds 93K and buy ins that cost thousands just for the right to get tickets
6 You are not a rivalry for Georgia anymore…you are the annoying little brother loses to his older brother in a game of HORSE a hundred straight times and then runs his mouth and brags relentlessly the one lucky time he does win
