Logan Gray to start for UGA? Not so fast, my friend

Apparently the shoulder isn't so bad after all. (Bill Waugh for the AJC)

Apparently the shoulder isn't so bad. (Bill Waugh for the AJC)

According to Claude Felton, Georgia’s Hall of Fame publicist, Internet reports that Logan Gray will start at quarterback against South Carolina are untrue. In an e-mail, Felton writes:  “Joe is starting.”

Then, being a Hall of Famer and therefore an exponent of utter clarity, Felton added this: “Cox, not Tereshinski.”

If you’re reading this, you’re probably aware that the Gray-to-start rumors have been all over the ‘Net and Twitter all morning. The basis: A post on a Georgia fan site (that spiraled with the usual viral Internet effect) suggesting Gray had been taking more snaps in practice this week and that Cox had a bum shoulder. Which would, if true, make him one unlucky Joe.

He waits three years to become Georgia’s No. 1 quarterback and then, in the span of a week, gets the flu but plays anyway and loses in Stillwater. And now he’s No. 1 no longer?

According to Felton, Cox is still No. 1. And now you’re up to date.

ACC = 0 for 4 against other BCS conferences so far this year.

They are the worst conference all time in BCS games. When are the media going to call this conference out for the sham that they are?

Tech plays an in conference game tonight means they at least have a chance

Honkey Dawg-It’s not based on one below average start. It’s based on no arm strength. It’s also based on the fact as a fifth year Senior he lost his composure Saturday against a poor OSU defense and that should not happen. It’s also based on the fact that he has no mobility to avoid any pressure. It’s also based on the fact that his strengths were supposed to be accuracy (which he did not show) and game management which he did not show. Put all of this together and it says he should be holding a clipboard on the sidelines. I would rather take my chances with Gray or Murray because then you could understand a performance like Joe displayed on Saturday. Atleast they have the arm strength to get the ball downfield and into the hands of AJ. Not to mention both having more mobility to buy more time to throw or to escape the rush entirely. He is just an “average Joe” no pun intended.

Did any of you so called Dawg fans even watch the GA-OSU game last weekend. Cox did not look near as bad as some of you want to make out and compared to Staffords first start at QB Cox looked exceptional. His one interception was a pass King should have caught, but deflected instead, several of his incompletes were knock downs by the OSU “D” line and only about three of the incompletes that he threw were uncatchable balls. This from a guy just getting over the flu. You guys act like Stafford never threw a bad pass and that the only acceptable QB is one who complete 100% of their passes for 30 yards an attempt.

We lost to a top 10 team who brought a much better than expected defense to the game and had to play against both OSU and the referees the second half.

What the team needs is support and not a bunch of knee jerk criticism.

Go Dawgs, Sic em, Woof Woof Woof!!!!

Stafford was not a 5th year senior when he started , that would be next year when he is a 5th year senior then we can compare the two.

They need to give Logan Grey an entire drive in the 1st half just to see what he can do when given the opportunity.

We already know what Joe Cox can do, which isn’t much. He’s a “game manager” and average QB in the SEC at best.

Depends on how this season goes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Aaron Murray at QB during the 2nd half of the season. Why hold back someone so talanted just for the sake of “loyalty”? I get that CMR wants to reward Joe Cox for his loyalty and not transfering and sticking it out behind Stafford all those years, but what about loyalty to the UGA fans? If starting Joe Cox costs us wins, I think CMR needs to re-think his “loyalty” to certain players and play the best option available regardless of seniority or experience. The best players should play. Look at USC. They weren’t afraid to go with a true freshman QB b/c he’s their best option right now.

I find it hard to believe that Logan Gray or Aaron Murray could be “worst” than Joe Cox at this point. Cox can’t stretch the field and his throws lack velocity.

If Aaron Murray is the future, start the kid now in a rebuilding year. Sure UGA may lose 4-5 games with a true freshman QB, but the experience will pay off in years 2 and 3 of the Aaron M. era.

I still think Logan looked the best in the G-Day Game. Had a solid arm, was mobile. Had good ball placement. Over all the best. However, It seemed that Murray had the best arm strength in the spring game. But, with Murray’s height, I don’t know how he’s gonna ever be able to thow balls that won’t get batted down by D-lines.

I’d like to say I have faith in Richt on this one. But history lessons serve us well, and we remember the whole Joe T. thing.

Yes, I know Cox is better than Joe T., but every time we’ve seen Cox against the other QB’s in rotation, he never looks the best.

What is Richt seeing at practice that we aren’t?

Hungry Dawg, I appreciate your optimism. But don’t sugarcoat his poor performance with a few examples. OVERALL he lloked terrible. And if his balls are getting batted down, then that is his fault ultimately.

1. He looked slow.
2. Has no mobility
3. Overthrew/Underthrew way too many times for someone who is our “most accurate passer”
4. Stared at every reciever he threw to so that the DB’s on the other team always knew where the ball was going.
5. His “fumble”. He pretty much just dropped the ball.
6. If he’s such a great leader than why did he look frustrated and clueless the entire second half?

Man. This is funny watching the bulldog nation melt down. I get nuthin against the dawgs but its just funny watching this program spiral down after just 1 loss. Have to admit though that things don’t look too good. A noodle arm, uninspiring qb, a bevy of average at best running backs, a no name defense with no beasts, no stars except maybe the undersized Rennie Curran. A great wide receiver AJ but no one to throw it to him. A brutal schedule. ahead.

In the G-Day Game, Gray moved the ball much better than Cox and played against the NUMBER ONE defense, Cox playing against the second stringers.

Gray has a MUCH stronger arm than Cox.

Gray is FAR more mobile than Cox.

Gray is TALLER than Cox.

At ANY other school… Gray would be starting.

But because Cox is a Richt favorite, Cox starts. Weak arm, statue-like mobility, and bad decision-making and all.

A 7-5 or 8-4 season with Joe Cox at QB is NOT the same as a 7-5 or 8-4 season with Logan Gray or Aaron Murray as QB.

A season with Cox as the QB is simply a wasted season to get one of the other guys ready for next year.

Yet again, Mark Richt and his coaches prove they just don’t get it.

It’s sad to say that Joe Cox is not the future, but that’s the reality. By default, he will be gone at the end of this season anyway (he’s a senior). My question is this, do any of us envision Joe leading this team the rest of the way and actually improving the quality of this offense/record???? My answer is no…he is a step above Joe T III, but JUST a step above. If you are going through a “rebuilding year”, why not split time between Gray & Murray. Otherwise, we will start next season with another “new quarterback” and have to take additional lumps/growing pains again. If any of you think that this coaching staff is good enough for this, then I would gladly listen to your thoughts.
